Axopar debuts 38 Sun Top in Mallorca

The Finnish brand has debuted the second version of the all-new Axopar 38, a model that triumphed at Yacht Style Awards 2026.

Axopar has debuted the open Sun Top version of the Axopar 38, the all-new successor to the hugely popular 37 that has sold over 3,000 units. In late April, the Axopar 38 won the Motoryacht 10-12m category at the Yacht Style Awards in Singapore based on the enclosed Cross Cabin version that premiered at Boot Düsseldorf in January.

In early May, Yacht Style attended the Axopar 38 Sun Top’s global debut in Mallorca. The open model with twin Mercury Verado outboards was shown in two versions: with 300hp V8s and a wet bar on the aft deck, and a Brabus Line edition with 350hp V10s and a U-sofa aft.

Optional sun lounge in the bow

Two enclosed Cross Cabin versions were also on show. One included 300hp V8s and a wet bar aft, while a Brabus Line edition with 350hp V10s featured the aft cabin option. All Axopar 38 models feature a twin-stepped, sharp-entry V hull, supported by an overbuilt stringer system.

In contrast to the Cross Cabin version, the Sun Top edition has a half-height windscreen and a hardtop with a sliding canvas roof. For potential enclosure, roll-down canopies are among the boat’s many options.

Optional activity wings

The open design naturally connects the mid-section with the aft deck, where familiar options include a bench sofa, wet bar or an aft cabin covered by a sunpad. The Sun Top’s reimagined mid-section is offered as standard with rows of three and four sports seats each side of an athwartships table.

Mid-section upgrades include an aft sofa and bulwark seats, a forward-facing U-sofa with high-low table and sunbed infill, and a driver’s sofa with reversible backrest and flip-up bolsters.

Hardtop with sliding canvas roof

Aft bulwark options include fenderbox bench seats and drop-down sides or ‘activity platforms’, while the main cabin forward can include gullwing doors covered by sunpad cushions. The bow includes a forward-facing sofa, while options include a sun lounger extension or an aft-facing U-sofa with high-low table.

Below deck, the front cabin with skylights includes the Axopar 38’s increased headroom, new kitchen module and optional enclosed toilet with shower.

Optional U-sofa and driver’s sofa

Jan-Erik Viitala, Axopar’s Founding Partner, said: “Boating has never been about the journey alone –  it is about the people you share it with. The Axopar 38 Sun Top is built around that simple idea, giving owners the freedom to shape their experience on the water while staying true to the performance and quality that define the range.”

The Axopar 38’s Cross Top edition, with a forward-tilting windshield for added protection from the sun, is set for its world premiere at Cannes Yachting Festival 2026 from September 8-13.

Sun shades are available for the bow and stern

Axopar, which designs in Finland, manufactures in Poland and employs about 1,000 people, has sold over 7,600 boats since its founding in 2014, and last year recorded a turnover of €170.4 million.

The builder’s dealers in Asia include Simpson Marine (Hong Kong, China, Indonesia), Derani Yachts (Thailand, Malaysia), Europa Yachts (Philippines), Amal Yachting (Taiwan) and Okazaki (Japan).

Galeon releases 520 Fly

Successor to the iconic 500 Fly, the all-new 520 Fly has completely reconfigured outdoor areas and boasts a 22ft wingspan with the balconies out.

Galeon has debuted the 520 Fly, the long-awaited successor to the pioneering 500 Fly ‘transformer’ that launched in 2015 and popularised the Polish shipyard’s iconic Beach Mode featuring drop-down sides on the main deck. Galeon, which is represented in Asia by Asiamarine, staged the world premiere of the 520 Fly at this year’s Palm Beach International Boat Show in Florida.

The distinctive exterior styling is by Tony Castro, whose UK-based studio has been working with Galeon for well over two decades. With an overall length of 56ft 5in, the all-new 520 Fly is over 3ft longer than the 500 Fly, which had an upgrade in 2024.

With twin inboards, each up to 725hp, the Category B yacht has a top speed of up to 30 knots, while tank capacities include 1,800 litres for fuel (depending on engine choice) and 650 litres of fresh water.

While keeping and upgrading popular features like the drop-down sides, sliding saloon doors and waterside bar to port, the 520 Fly features significant layout changes to the cockpit, foredeck, flybridge and accommodation.

The 520 Fly has just one set of steps from the full-beam hydraulic platform, allowing the cockpit to include a larger C-shaped sofa. On the main deck, the beam of 15ft 2in (6in wider than the 500 Fly) expands to 22ft following deployment of the drop-down sides, which Galeon describes as “fully re-engineered for smoother and more intuitive operation”.

On both sides of the saloon are long sliding doors. These combine with the balconies to offer a fold-out bar counter with two bar stools to port, and open-air views to starboard, where the interior sofa has a fold-down backrest that allows guests to sit and face the sea.

The flybridge has been transformed and is most notable for an impressive row of four helm and passenger seats, while forward is a full-width sunpad area with backrests. Aft of the seats is an outdoor galley to port and wet bar to starboard, while a C-shaped dinette occupies the aft-port corner.

The foredeck has also been completely rethought, replacing the 500 Fly’s C-shaped seating area with a foldable, high-low table surrounded by a forward-facing sofa-cum-lounger and two aft-facing corner sofas.

The interiors, developed with InSitu & Partners headquartered in Hong Kong, feature comfortable headroom, refined ambient lighting and abundant storage. The layout includes a U-shaped aft galley and a raised forward saloon, where an L-shaped dinette to port faces a starboard settee and a sofa-style helm station.

The photos show the studio’s Amber decor from the Mediterranean palette “inspired by warm, rich tones and sophisticated contrasts”. High-gloss lacquered finishes are paired with brass-toned accents, refined detailing and premium fabrics.

The lower deck include a full-beam master suite midships with an en-suite bathroom to starboard. The forward VIP – lit by large hull windows and two skylights – has en-suite access to a second bathroom shared by guests in the third cabin to port, which can have twin berths or a double bed due to a sliding-bed system. Aft is an option for a skipper’s cabin or a tender garage.

Marta Śledziewska, Galeon’s Head of PR & Marketing, said: “The 520 Fly is a very important model for us and for the future of our flybridge range. She combines the design language that our clients recognise with a new level of space optimisation, functionality and refined detailing.”

The 520 Fly represents the latest addition to Galeon’s Flybridge collection, which ranges from the 360 Fly to the shipyard’s flagship 800 Fly. All Galeon models are built at the shipyard’s second-generation, family-owned shipyard in Gdańsk, where more than 2,800 yachts have been delivered since 1996.

Nautor Swan is returning to the 22m segment with the Swan 73, designed by Germán Frers, Luca Ardizio and Cecilia Perotti’s Blend Studio.

Nautor Swan, owned by Sanlorenzo Group since 2024, has revealed details of its Swan 73, which is due to launch in 2027 and marks the Finnish shipyard’s return to the 22m segment after two decades.

The yacht’s 22.47m hull has a 6.12m beam and is built in vinylester-infused fiberglass laminate with sandwich structures and local carbon reinforcements. The 39-tonne yacht has an overall length of 23.67m, a waterline length of 21.23m and a 3.2m draft, as well as a 3,237sqm sail area and 8.5 tonnes of ballast.

The Swan 73 features concept, design and naval architecture by German Frers, the Argentine veteran who has worked with Nautor Swan since 1980, while Luca Ardizio of Milan-based Ardizio Design handled the exterior design and layouts, which include an asymmetrical cockpit.

Antonio Santella, Senior Advisor to Nautor Swan’s New Product Development division, explains: “From the earliest sketches, the intention with Luca Ardizio was to create exterior lines that reflect the purity of Germán Frers’ hulls, combining elegance and fluidity with a refined balance of form, proportion and performance.”

As well as slim, efficient hull lines and a twin-helm navigation area set up for short-handed sailing, the Swan 73 has an asymmetrical cockpit featuring an offset companionway, allowing for a portside dinette that can be converted into a large sunpad. Options include a rigid roof that allows the social area to alternate between a panoramic veranda or a fully enclosed, climate-controlled ‘winter garden’.

Fore and aft of the mast are sunpads. The foredeck can be shaded by an elegant Arabian-style tent and has space to accommodate a large tender. At the stern, the beach club features an extendable swim platform and a lazarette capable of carrying a 2.8m rigid-keel RIB.

The interiors are by Blend Studio, a Milan-based company founded by Patrizia Manconi, Sara Cerboneschi and Cecilia Perotti, daughter of Massimo Perotti, Sanlorenzo Group’s owner and Executive Chairman.

Owners can choose three or four cabins, including a master cabin with an enlarged en-suite or walk-in wardrobe. Interiors are finished in Canaletto walnut and light-toned soft furnishings.

Cecilia Perotti, Blend Studio’s co-founder, said: “The project draws from the heritage of Swan yachts, reimagined through a contemporary lens. The result is a space defined by soft transitions, curved geometries and a harmonious flow.”

Incorporating design cues from her big sisters, the sailing catamaran’s notable features include an enhanced flybridge and a forward saloon door to a mostly solid foredeck.

Lagoon is scheduled to host the world premiere of the Lagoon 47 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival from September 8-13.

Featuring exteriors and naval architecture by France’s VPLP Design and interiors by Italian studio Nauta Design, the sailing cat has an overall length of 49ft 1in, based on a 45ft 10in hull with a 26ft 1in beam, while the rig includes 128sqm of upwind sail area.

Incorporating “over 200 reviews, ideas and wishes” from Lagoon owners, the catamaran includes a range of new features.

On the flybridge, the helm has been repositioned to improve visibility for the skipper and improve communication. On the port side of the fly, a forward-facing C-shaped dinette and a forward sunbathing area offer an extensive social and lounging area under a tall hardtop.

However, arguably the yacht’s most notable feature is the forward saloon door to the 12sqm foredeck, a new first for the shipyard in this size range. Lagoon has included a foredeck door on its 60, Sixty 5 and Eighty 2, the latter debuting at the Cannes show last September and winning the Sailing Catamaran Above 18m category at Yacht Style Awards 2026 this April.

The foredeck on the Lagoon 47 is notable for being predominantly solid, so offers a much larger socialising area than on the 46. Seating and lounging is available on a three-sided sofa and a table to starboard, as well as a chaise longue to port.

Catamaran, sailing yacht, Lagoon 47, VPLP Design, Nauta Design, yacht concept, Cannes Yachting Festival 2026

VPLP Design’s Mathias Maurios stated: “The spacious forward cockpit, accessed via a door at the front of the saloon, provides a comfortable and welcoming relaxation area. It’s the ideal place to spend some time with family and friends after a full day out on the water.”

Aft, the 16sqm covered cockpit also offers increased seating, with the port and starboard sofas extending around the superstructure to offer additional aft-facing seating.

Guests can sit and face forward on the wide aft sofa, which includes a reclining backrest that allows guests to also face aft over the central platform and water.

A large sliding glass door opens to the saloon, which has a galley to port and lounge to starboard, and is the centrepiece of a main deck offering over 40sqm of living space.

For interior décor, owners can choose between the pastel-hued Panarea, evoking “the tranquillity of the ocean at sunset”, or Sorrento’s “bright and vibrant summer atmosphere”.

For accommodation, owners can choose three, four or five cabins. The starboard hull can feature two en-suite cabins or a full-length master suite with an aft bed and a forward bathroom including two washbasins.

The port full features fore and aft en-suite cabins with window-facing beds, as well as a midships ‘smart room’ that can be configured as an en-suite cabin, walk-in wardrobe or utility room.

Massimo Gino, Nauta Design’s co-founder, said: “The Lagoon 47 is designed to enhance the connection with nature, to create a fluid dialogue with the horizon, and offer a pure experience of light and open space.

“We’re redefining interior designs, moving beyond the traditional style of a catamaran to achieve a more refined aesthetic, close to that of a superyacht.”

International Multihull Show breaks record 2026

On France’s south coast, the annual multihull gathering at La Grande Motte set a record for its in-water display.

The International Multihull Show recorded its largest in-water display in late April with 82 boats on display in the annual five-day event in La Grande Motte. The figure topped the previous record of 73 set last year, which was the first edition to include a dedicated powercat zone.

This year, organisers announced a five per cent decrease in attendance, but this was offset by a record level of international visitors who came from 27 European countries and across the Americas, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Australia. Building on this, organisers plan to introduce a ‘focus country’ for each future edition, providing greater insight into the marine industry around the world.

Improvements this year included a new entrance location closer to the town centre, a free electric shuttle service, a redesigned visitor route and the opening of a third marina.

“The show continues to evolve with the market,” said Anaïs David, Director of the International Multihull Show. “Exhibitors reported promising discussions and visitors remarked on the quality and variety of the vessels and exhibitors.”

The world’s biggest catamaran builders took centre stage, with Lagoon showing five sailing cats including the Lagoon 38 that debuted at last year’s edition, along with the 43, 51, 55 and 60.

Excess, also within Groupe Beneteau, showed four twin-helm sail cats including the Excess 13 that debuted in 2025 and was a winner at Yacht Style Awards 2026, along with the Excess 11, Excess 11 Hybrid and Excess 14.

Groupe Beneteau also had a strong presence in the powercat zone where Prestige displayed its M48 and M7 (58ft) flybridge models, while Jeanneau showcased its TH33 and TH38 outboard cruisers. Both the Prestige M7 and Jeanneau TH38 won their categories at Yacht Style Awards 2026.

Fountaine Pajot, based in La Rochelle, displayed four yachts ranging from the FP41 and FP44 that debuted at Cannes last September to the FP51 and Samana 59.

Leopard spanned both the sail and power zones. Among sailing cats, the brand showed its 46 and flagship 52 (another Yacht Style Awards 2026 winner) plus the Sunsail 465, a five-cabin charter version of the Leopard 46.

It also showed its full powercat range – the 40PC, 46PC and 53PC – as well as a Moorings 464PC, a four-cabin Leopard 46 Powercat for charter.

Aquila gained a lot of attention as it staged the Europe debut of its 50 Sail, the brand’s first sailing catamaran, as well as three of its powercats: 36 Sport, 46 Coupe and 50 Yacht.

Bali showcased six sail cats ranging from the Catsmart and Catspace to the 4.2, 4.6, 5.2 and 5.8, while Yot Power Catamarans – its sister brand within Catana Group – showed its Yot 36 and Yot 41.

A year after Aventura – which builds in Tunisia – staged the global debuts of both its 38 SC (Sport Cruiser) coupe and 38 MY (Motor Yacht) flybridge powercats, the builder showcased both models again, staged the world premiere of its 37 Explorer, and displayed its 37 and 45 sail cats.

Other global debuts included Adventure Yachts’ AY60 powercat built in Thailand, Outremer 48 from France, Rapido 40 Racer carbon trimaran from Vietnam, Simbad 55 from Spain and Trimarine’s TRM 43 from Portugal.

The fourth Singapore Yachting Festival at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove featured a record 14,280 visitors and 211 participating brands, according to show organisers, although the number of boats was down on previous years.

Arthur Tay, Chairman and CEO of SUTL Group, owner of the ONE°15 Marina portfolio, stated: “The response to this year’s Singapore Yachting Festival reflects rising confidence in Southeast Asia’s yachting market and Singapore’s role within it. We exceeded our target visitorship by 20 per cent and doubled the number of participating brands, underscoring the Festival’s growing relevance as a platform for international yacht brands.”

Tay, who won a Lifetime Achievement Award at Yacht Style Awards 2026 on the eve of the show, said the increased attendance was due in part to new initiatives. These included the Spotlight Zone event room at the end of the air-conditional exhibition pavilion, and The Wellness Suite by Teiāh Hospitality experience held aboard a 105ft superyacht at the heart of the on-water display.

The Festival also continued to broaden its appeal beyond traditional yacht buyers with the Festival Village featuring music and F&B, the neighbouring Supercars Parade, the in-water Experiential Zone for people to try a range of watersports, and daily joy rides to the Southern Islands.

“Increased visitorship was driven in part by the immersive experiences introduced this year. With encouraging feedback from sponsors, partners and exhibitors, I’m heartened by the strong commercial interest, qualified leads and transactions secured during the Festival, with many planning to return in 2027,” Tay said. “That level of engagement, together with the quality of participation this year, reinforces the Singapore Yachting Festival’s position as a leading platform for the region.”

Damen Yachting again sponsored the on-water Superyacht Lounge, JP Morgan Private Bank hosted the VIP Lounge in the pavilion, and Porsche Rossinavi (in partnership with Camper & Nicholsons Asia) and Baglietto (in partnership with Fraser Asia) among new exhibitors, each hosting an on-water booth.

Azimut’s display with Marine Italia Asia comprised a Seadeck 7, Fly 62 and Magellano 60, while Absolute lined up a Navetta 64, 53 and 52.

Gulf Craft Group hosted a Nomad 101 tri-deck and a Majesty 62, while a Sunseeker Manhattan 68 and Sunseeker Manhattan 55 were shown by DCH Marine, which also displayed Saxdor’s 400 GTC, 340 GTWA (Asia premiere), 320 GTO and 320 GTC.

A Greenline 48 Fly, Axopar 37 Sun Top and Axopar 29 CCX were shown by Derani Yachts, while Maritimo had a booth following the Australian shipyard’s appointment of Primus Marine as a dealer. UX Marine displayed two boats, with a Noordic 28 in the water and a Noordic 26 on land.

The show featured its largest array of multihulls to date, with the Asia debut of the Leopard 52 sailing catamaran joined by continental debuts of the brand’s 46 and newly upgraded 53 Powercat. Aquila boosted the show’s powercat presence, with Primus Marine exhibiting the brand’s 54 Yacht and 42 Yacht flybridge inboard models beside a 42 Coupe outboard cruiser.

A Sunreef 60 Eco sail cat and an Eastar TY560 powercat were also among multihulls, along with a Prestige M48 motoryacht and Fountaine Pajot Samana 59 sail cat, both displayed by Asia Yachting.

An Excess 13 was shown by Pro Sail Asia, the brand’s new Singapore dealer, while a Lagoon 51 was displayed by Asiamarine, which also exhibited a Galeon 440 Fly and Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 54 sailing monohull.

Gulf Craft Group – winner of the Builder in Asia category at Yacht Style Awards 2026has appointed Asia Yachting to represent Majesty’s Superyacht Collection in Hong Kong and the Philippines. Majesty’s Superyacht Collection ranges from 100ft upwards and includes the Majesty 100 Terrace, 112, 120, the new 145, upcoming 160 and the flagship 175 delivered in 2021, while its Yacht Collection is dedicated to models below 100ft.

Other senior staff included Yvan Eymieu, who was appointed Global Commercial Director earlier this year and is based at the company’s commercial office in Dubai.

Sunreef is building the Ultima range at its new shipyard in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, where the Ultima 55 was the first model to be produced and had its debut at last year’s Dubai International Boat Show.

The Ultima 88, which has an overall length of 93ft and a beam of 30ft, has had almost 30 orders from clients including tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz. Standout features included a waterside ‘Ocean Lounge’ with opening bulwarks, integrated aft-facing sofas on the swim platform, and an aft garage.

The main deck includes a long, covered cockpit leading into a saloon showing off the yacht’s light interiors, while accommodation on the lower deck includes a stunning full-beam master suite forward. The Ultima 88 is also the series’ first model with a flybridge, which features an aft area dedicated to loose furniture plus a dining area and triple-seat helm station forward.

“The Ultima 88 embodies Sunreef Yachts’ forward-thinking vision, blending cutting-edge innovation with refined aesthetics and performance-driven design. It introduces a bold new dimension of performance luxury,” Sunreef stated.

“The yacht delivers an exceptional balance of speed, efficiency and refined comfort at sea. Blending the agility of a monohull with the stability, generous living space and shallow draft of a multihull, the Ultima 88 reflects a forward-thinking approach to modern yacht architecture.”

Gulf Craft Group – winner of the Builder in Asia category at Yacht Style Awards 2026 launched the first Majesty 145 at its facility in Umm Al Quwain, with the superyacht expected to be delivered to her owner in the coming weeks. Mohammed Alshaali, Gulf Craft’s co-founder and Chairman, and Cristiano Gatto, the yacht’s designer, were among those attending the launch ceremony.

Alshaali said: “The Majesty 145 marks the continued evolution of the Majesty brand, building on a legacy that has shaped our approach to design and craftsmanship over the years.

“What makes this moment special is the pace at which this project has progressed, with the concept presented and first hull sold at the Dubai International Boat Show 2025. Integrating a six-cabin layout within this size bracket is also a rare achievement, typically reserved for larger superyachts.”

Gulf Craft’s biggest yacht to date is the Majesty 175, which was delivered in 2021 and features exterior and interior design by Cristiano Gatto Design. The Italian studio also designed the Majesty 160, which is scheduled to launch later this year.

Gatto’s studio collaborated with Gulf Craft’s multinational in-house design studio on the Majesty 145, with the Italian praising the brand’s new 40m-plus composite superyacht.

“Majesty 145 represents the essence of our design vision: a balance of elegance, proportions and seamless continuity between interior and exterior spaces,” Gatto stated. “Every detail has been carefully considered to deliver a fluid onboard experience, where design and livability naturally interact. This project fully reflects the identity of our studio and our way of interpreting life at sea.”

With a strong focus on owner lifestyle, the yacht integrates expansive social spaces, dual infinity-style pools and wellness features including an infrared sauna, spa areas and a fully equipped gym.

The semi-custom Majesty 145 is available in multiple configuration options across the stern, bow and upper deck. This flexibility allows owners to tailor key areas of the yacht to suit their individual preferences while maintaining the efficiency of a semi-series platform.

Majesty’s Yacht Collection starts from the Majesty 60, while the Superyacht Collection is dedicated to models from 100-175ft. The brand works with external naval architects and designers from the Netherlands, Italy, UK, South Africa and Australia, and is one of Gulf Craft’s four yacht brands along with Nomad, Oryx and SilverCat.

This year’s Yacht Style Awards featured winners of 35 categories collecting their crystal trophies on stage at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove in Singapore.

The stunning Constellation Ballroom at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove in Singapore hosted leading luxury yacht brands from around the world for the 2026 edition of the Yacht Style Awards on April 22, ahead of the Singapore Yachting Festival (April 23-26).

Many of Asia’s luxury yachting companies and the world’s top shipyards were among winners who lifted a crystal trophy during a vibrant evening featuring about 300 guests.

At the cocktail reception, guests were photographed against a Yacht Style magazine cover and the Yacht Style Awards 2026 backdrop.

Delicacies included oysters from Archē & Ardor, while drinks included fine wines from Wine Adore, sake from Sake Taberu, and Nocturne Noir, a coffee-infused spirit.

At the gala dinner, which included a four-course meal and entertainment from a DJ and saxophonist, the 35 awards were presented in three sections.

For each category, the nominees were announced before the winners collected their trophies on stage, where they had their photos taken and made a speech.

Gael Burlot, CEO and Publisher of Yacht Style, organiser of the Awards, said: “This was one of the liveliest and most in-demand editions of the Yacht Style Awards.

“We had an impressive guest list from around Asia and beyond, with many industry heavyweights and yacht owners in attendance. This year, there was a particularly strong Chinese participation, with over 20 representatives of mainland China’s yachting scene at the gala dinner.

“There was a high standard of nominees for each award, and we had deserving winners, although competition was close in many categories.

“Criteria for the yacht categories included innovation, design, build quality, environmental responsibility, owner experience, personal achievements and a focus on the Asia market.”

For yacht-related categories, the focus was on shipyards with representation in Asia. Models considered had a world premiere at a major boat show around the world or a leading Asia-Pacific show after last year’s Singapore Yachting Festival (April 2025). Overall lengths were used for most boat categories, except for sailboats, where hull length was used.

Many of the world’s best-known builders of luxurious, large motoryachts are well established in Asia, but shipyards able to tailor models to clients’ usage and preferences will dominate in the future.

Asia has the two factors necessary for a superyacht boom. Heavenly coastlines. And hard cash.

Start with the destination. Indonesia has more islands than the Mediterranean. Thailand has five times more coral species than the Caribbean. The Philippine Sea is larger than the Mediterranean and Caribbean combined. End with the money. Singapore is the richest country per capita. In 2030, Indonesia will be a top-10 economy. Over the last decade, ASEAN’s annual economic growth averaged 4 per cent. Europe averaged a paltry 1.5 per cent. Who’s opening the Krug now?

Which begs the ultimate question. Given the waterscapes and the wealth, why aren’t more boats specifically designed for the Asian market? One word: ignorance. Superyachts are built primarily by Europeans. Historically, Europe has been clueless about the world’s most dynamic, most populous and most resource-rich continent.

Benetti B.Now 52M

Allow me to share two nuggets of Euro wisdom I overheard at a recent Monaco Yacht Show. “Asians don’t go out in the sun.” What about the Chinese I recently saw on yacht charters in the Maldives? “Asians don’t have a sailing legacy.” Never heard of Zheng He, Sindbad or the Olympic gold medallist Xu Lijia? Give me a break.

NEW GENERATION

“Preconceptions one might have had about Asian clients 15 years ago are no longer relevant,” says Ewa Stachurska of Sanlorenzo Asia Pacific/Simpson Marine in Hong Kong, who has worked in Asian yachting since 2011. “Today’s customers are highly discerning, experienced in luxury lifestyle and well-travelled.”

Hong Kong, Singapore, southern China and Thailand experienced greater initial exposure to yachting. These regions are currently witnessing the highest growth – data points to an annual market expansion of 20 per cent. In addition, Stachurska states, “markets like the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia have enormous potential”.

“The new generation of Asian clients are different from their parents,” explains Daniela Petrozzi, Sales Director of Benetti, which has sold over 40 superyachts in Asia since entering the market and is part of the world’s biggest superyacht-building group. Many Asian owners were educated in London, holiday in The Bahamas and bank in Zurich. “They adopt global lifestyle elements as well as requesting large areas for spending time with friends and family,” she adds.

Petrozzi believes the synergy between east and west is distilled in Benetti’s brand-new Motopanfilo 45M with its patented Veranda Deck®, which launches in 2026. A 9m beam encourages familial conviviality in marinas, where much Asian usage takes place. Retractable canopies and slide-open saloon doors can create the perfect micro-climate in any destination.

Benetti Motopanfilo 45M

“The biggest issue in Asia is humidity and high temperatures,” agrees Salih Kucukoglu, Numarine’s Sales Manager for MEA & APAC. “Heavy rain can suddenly start when you are still wearing your T-shirt.” Tropical air-conditioning systems rated up to 50°C chill every quarter of the six Numarine yachts upgraded and sold specifically for Asian cruising, including inside the engine room.

Another challenge is cultural. “Asian clients like to entertain in groups,” says Laura Verbrugge, Sales Manager for Fraser Asia, who has worked in Asian yachting for 12 years. Colleagues, cousins and grandchildren dine around the same rounded table. Boats also form a private place for business meetings, with the quality of one’s yacht dictating the power behind the deal.

BEHIND THE BRAND

Most important of all, yachting in Asia is all about the brand. In a fast-emerging market packed with first-time buyers, potential owners will place their trust in a marque with long-term presence.

“If buyers know you have an established office in Singapore or Hong Kong that they can visit in person, that helps secure your identity,” says Petrozzi from Benetti. “Angel Zhou, our President of Sales for Asia, is a local legend.”

Sunseeker 90 Ocean Enclosed

One of the first hot brands in Asia was Sunseeker. Two decades ago, the British builder’s Ferrari-fast lines, showcased at boat shows across the continent, chimed with families flush with first-time wealth. “In Asia, one highly visible owner can strongly influence brand momentum,” says Verbrugge.

Princess, also from the UK, has long channelled the mood for quieter luxury in Southeast Asia and China. Princess’s massively popular Y85 and X95 are among the region’s most popular models in their size range.

Princess X95 in Singapore

In recent years, however, Princess stumbled when a younger cohort demanded entertainment spaces, oceanside experiences and extended range. The forthcoming 106 Odyssey series addresses those concerns with maximal tri-deck volume inside a marina-friendly package.

MADE IN ITALY

For some, the allure today is Italian. “Concepts of luxury and design are inseparably linked to Made in Italy,” believes Federico Rossi, COO of Rossinavi. “Italian manufacturing represents a globally recognised benchmark for quality, craftsmanship and aesthetics,” from Alessi to Zegna.

Nolimits fleet

Rossinavi’s explorer brand Nolimits teamed up with the Shanghai bureau of Italian style house Pininfarina to insert culturally resonant touches into Nolimits’ models including Asia motifs and calm colours, with additional space for “karaoke, an informal saloon and a whiskey bar”.

“I’ve seen a 24m yacht with interiors fully styled by Fendi,” Verbrugge says. “And another where the captain’s seat was designed by Bentley.”

Custom Line Navetta 30

In the 30m-plus range, she notes the ongoing popularity of Custom Line from the Ferretti Group. For 40-60m, she believes Benetti could be a next step for many owners upgrading, particularly with the B.Now series, which pairs steel hulls and swift delivery times with an absolute synergy with the sea.

The current must-have marque is Sanlorenzo. “They have the perfect transition between sizes, starting from 70ft to 90ft,” says Stachurska from Sanlorenzo Asia Pacific. “People in Asia believe Italian shipyards are the best.”

Sanlorenzo yachts are highly customisable. North Asia clients have requested total layout reconfigurations, with lower-deck cabins transformed into entertainment lounges or playrooms.

Sanlorenzo’s SL and SX ranges struck a chord in Asia with their spacious interiors and versatility.

Sanlorenzo SD132

Smaller SD models are perfect for freshly minted newbies who require a flexible yacht for day cruises or long-distance trips. Stachurska believes the opening of China’s Greater Bay Area, which has over 1,000 islands to explore, will create a compelling coast-hopping destination for private owners between Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Hainan.

NEXT GENERATION

The late 2020s trend in Asian yachting is the demand for bigger yachts, with bigger range. Asia has magical moorings from the Andaman Islands to Palawan, but these two examples are 1,500nm apart. When cruising further, Sanlorenzo owners can upgrade to the SD series’ big daddy, the SD132, which can log 3,000nm with ease.

Baglietto DOM133

In terms of charter, Thailand and Indonesia remain number one spots, but Fraser Asia has fielded growing requests for Japan. “Okinawa is tropical, beautiful and has clear water, and the government is developing marinas,” Verbrugge says. All these facts point to bigger boats. Verbrugge sees 35-50m as the trending market range. “Baglietto’s DOM series is particularly well suited to the region.”

The Italian shipyard’s DOM115 and DOM133 are stable with a shallow draft and well-protected decks ideal for tropical cruising. With a range of between 2,800nm and 3,400nm, the DOM line allows owners to comfortably cruise between major Asian hubs such as Phuket, Singapore and Hong Kong, while also accessing remote destinations like Palawan or Indonesia’s outer islands.

Baglietto DOM115

Over the last 10 years, “owners gained experience and gradually upgraded from sub-80ft yachts to larger vessels,” confirms Kucukoglu from Numarine. “Buyers of our 37XP,” which has a whopping 6,000nm range, “are far less dependent on marinas or frequent refuelling, which is particularly important in regions where large yacht infrastructure is still developing.”

The model’s space allocation dovetails with Asian cruising, he believes. The 732sqm of living space is split almost 50/50 between interior and exterior. “On a hot and humid day in Asia, that balanced distribution of space makes life on board much more comfortable.”

A final factor will affect yachts produced for the Asian market in the coming decade. Buyers are familiar with the facts and aren’t afraid to say it.  “Asian families are more involved compared to the past when they had a person filtering the communication,” concludes Petrozzi from Benetti. The next generation of Asian owners want to be “first in line, with a yacht custom-built for Asia, from a brand they can trust”.

Named Raijin, the second Swan 128 sailing yacht has been splashed in Finland and is notable for its dual-energy technology.

The second Swan 128 has been launched in Nautor Swan’s main facility in Jakobstad (Pietarsaari) on Finland’s west coast. The first Swan 128, Be Cool, was launched in May 2025 and had its world premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show last September.

Hull two of the shipyard’s current flagship has been named Raijin after the Japanese god of thunder, lightning and storms. Featuring an overall length of 38.98m, the Swan 128 features exterior design by Micheletti+Partners and naval architecture by German Frers, who has been designing for Nautor Swan since 1980.

“We consider the Swan 128 the ultimate expression of our evolution,” commented Giovanni Pomati, Nautor Swan’s CEO. “She combines the purity of our design lines with comfortable interiors and a wide use of advanced technologies.”

Raijin has been optimised for the sailing regatta circuit, with a generous sail plan and a double-rudder system for enhanced precision and responsiveness.

As well as having a slightly different sail plan to Be Cool, Raijin is the first Swan 128 with hybrid propulsion. She is equipped with a main electric motor with a variable-pitch propeller, two 130kW Cummins generators and a 30kW Fisher Panda generator.

Via a variable-pitch propeller and electric drivetrain, the system can generate up to 30-50kW of power regeneration while sailing. A large hotel battery bank with a capacity of 189kWh enables up to eight hours of fully silent operation with all systems running.

“This second hull features ‘Dual Energy Technology’, reflecting our vision of sailing self-sufficiency, producing the energy needed on board and extending range without relying on diesel engines,” Pomati said.

Raijin’s interiors have been styled by Misa Poggi and Antonie Bertherat, as well as Heini Gustafsson of the shipyard’s interior team.

Diverging from the teak touches seen on Be Cool, the second Swan 128 features matte crown-cut oak, warm white ash wood panels and rattan finishes for a natural look. Pinstriped soft furnishings in shades of sky blue and sunlit ochre give a classic feel.

Along with Be Cool, Raijin is scheduled to compete in the Rolex Swan Cup (September 14-19) in Porto Cervo, where Nautor Swan will celebrate the shipyard’s 60th anniversary.
