Named Raijin, the second Swan 128 sailing yacht has been splashed in Finland and is notable for its dual-energy technology.
The second Swan 128 has been launched in Nautor Swan’s main facility in Jakobstad (Pietarsaari) on Finland’s west coast. The first Swan 128, Be Cool, was launched in May 2025 and had its world premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show last September.
Hull two of the shipyard’s current flagship has been named Raijin after the Japanese god of thunder, lightning and storms. Featuring an overall length of 38.98m, the Swan 128 features exterior design by Micheletti+Partners and naval architecture by German Frers, who has been designing for Nautor Swan since 1980.
“We consider the Swan 128 the ultimate expression of our evolution,” commented Giovanni Pomati, Nautor Swan’s CEO. “She combines the purity of our design lines with comfortable interiors and a wide use of advanced technologies.”
Raijin has been optimised for the sailing regatta circuit, with a generous sail plan and a double-rudder system for enhanced precision and responsiveness.
As well as having a slightly different sail plan to Be Cool, Raijin is the first Swan 128 with hybrid propulsion. She is equipped with a main electric motor with a variable-pitch propeller, two 130kW Cummins generators and a 30kW Fisher Panda generator.
Via a variable-pitch propeller and electric drivetrain, the system can generate up to 30-50kW of power regeneration while sailing. A large hotel battery bank with a capacity of 189kWh enables up to eight hours of fully silent operation with all systems running.
“This second hull features ‘Dual Energy Technology’, reflecting our vision of sailing self-sufficiency, producing the energy needed on board and extending range without relying on diesel engines,” Pomati said.
Raijin’s interiors have been styled by Misa Poggi and Antonie Bertherat, as well as Heini Gustafsson of the shipyard’s interior team.
Diverging from the teak touches seen on Be Cool, the second Swan 128 features matte crown-cut oak, warm white ash wood panels and rattan finishes for a natural look. Pinstriped soft furnishings in shades of sky blue and sunlit ochre give a classic feel.
Along with Be Cool, Raijin is scheduled to compete in the Rolex Swan Cup (September 14-19) in Porto Cervo, where Nautor Swan will celebrate the shipyard’s 60th anniversary.
