Sunseeker is developing the Predator 55 and the 55 Sport Yacht, which will build upon the naval architecture of the Superhawk 55 launched earlier this year. The upcoming yachts will be the entry models for the Predator and Sport Yacht series already featuring 65 and 75 models.

The Predator 55 has a retractable 3m by 2.5m glass and carbon-fibre sunroof integrated into the hardtop, while the 55 Sport Yacht has a sportbridge with a twin-seat helm and an aft L-shaped dinette with a table that can be lowered and covered to make a sunbathing area.

Otherwise, the CE Category A models are similar, with an overall length of 56ft 3in and a beam of 16ft 2in and distinguished from their predecessors by striking LED lighting. Both will feature twin 725hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS950 engines with a fully integrated pilot, engine data and navigation system, as well as an expected top speed of 35 knots. An optional gyro reduces rolling at anchor.

Andrea Frabetti, Sunseeker International’s CEO, said: “A completely new silhouette for the Predator has arrived in this new 55ft model. An aggressive profile shines with new styling cues never-before-seen in the range. Importantly, her driving dynamics remain true to the model’s heritage – she’s born to perform.

Sunseeker, 55 Sport Yacht, Predator 55, Andrea Frabetti

The tender garage for both yachts

“We’re also thrilled to reveal the 55 Sport Yacht concept as part of our plan to offer the broadest range in this category. The 55 Sport Yacht opens a new dimension of space in this size category. The second helm on the sportsbridge offers that wind-in-the-hair feeling. It’s a dynamic yacht that offers a level of separation for morning to evening cruising.”

Common features include a tender garage capable of housing a Williams TurboJet 325 and storage for two Seabobs on the underside of the garage door. The hydraulic bathing platform lowers diagonally while the sunpad raises to reveal steps directly into the water and the tender on a rolling launch-and-recovery system.

The main-deck saloon

The sunpad is equipped with adjustable headrest bolsters and built-in drinks holders, while the aft cockpit offers comfortable seating for up to six guests on aft and port sofas. Two symmetrical side decks lead to the foredeck, which features a sofa, large sun pad, ample storage and hidden anchoring hardware.

The main deck has an open, spacious saloon with a C-shaped sofa to port and a starboard galley with refrigeration, oven and hob with a high-level TV. Forward is a twin-seat saloon to starboard and storage to port.

Sunseeker, 55 Sport Yacht, Predator 55, Andrea Frabetti

Full-beam master suite midships

The lower deck includes a full-beam master suite midships and an en-suite VIP with scissor berths in the bow, separated by a lower saloon to starboard and a storage room or optional utility room to port.

An alternative layout includes a larger galley below and more seating and a fall and rise TV in the aft end of the main-deck saloon. Another option between the two main cabins is a third en-suite guest cabin, with twin beds.

Azimut has continued to upgrade its flybridge line with the new Fly 72, which features an exterior by Alberto Mancini and an interior by architect Fabio Fantolino, making his design debut in the yachting world.

The yacht had its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival – along with the Magellano 60 and Verve 48 – and was also on display at the Genoa International Boat Show, where Azimut had another strong display.

Azimut, Fly 72, Magellano 60, Verve 48, Alberto Mancini, Fabio Fantolino, Cannes Yachting Festival, Genoa International Boat Show, Marine Italia

The Fly 72 features a new hull design, while Mancini continues to rework the flybridge line, having also designed the 53 and 68. Mancini has also designed many recent Grande and S models including the S7 that debuted at Boot Dusseldorf in January and exhibited at Cannes and Genoa in September.

The Fly 72 has an overall length of 74ft 1in and a beam of 18ft 5in, while two 1,400mhp MAN CR V12 engines give a top speed up to 31 knots and a cruising speed of 26. The cockpit features a C-shaped sofa with adjustable table, while the foredeck also has a C-shaped sofa as well as a large, flexible sunpad.

The flybridge features lounging areas on the port side, starting with chaise longues aft, a C-shaped dinette midships, and more sunbathing space forward, by the twin-seat helm. To starboard is an L-shaped wet bar with the option of a lift TV. All the yacht’s outdoor areas feature sofas with thick, rounded cushions.

Fantolino, who specialises in residences and hospitality, and has studios in Turin and Milan, has created a warm, soft interior with textured fabrics and leather and earthy tones like brown and tan, along with precious materials such as bronze and glossy lacquers for contrast.

The interior starts with the saloon, with an L-shaped sofa to port and a two-seat settee to starboard. The dining table is midships to starboard, beside a comprehensive galley to port that can be enclosed or open. Forward is a twin-seat helm to starboard, while to port is a raised dinette with facing sofas.

The lower deck has four en-suite guest cabins comprising a full-beam master midships, VIP in the bow, a twin to starboard and double to port, while there’s also crew accommodation for two aft. Marine Italia represents Azimut in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong, Taiwan and Singapore.

Beneteau releases Antares flagship

The French boating giant has extended its line of enclosed weekends with the Antares 12, which is 10ft longer than the former series flagship.

Beneteau, Antares, weekender, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Alexis Chas

Beneteau has debuted the Antares 12, the new flagship of an enclosed weekender line. The yacht’s world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival is set to be followed by its US debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 25-29).

Featuring an overall length of 42ft 7in and a beam of 12ft 5in, the Antares 12 is 10ft longer than the former series-flagship 11 and 11 Fly models (32ft 6in) and can accommodate up to eight guests. The line starts from the Antares 6 (18ft 1in).

Beneteau, Antares, weekender, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Alexis Chas

Antares 12 engine options comprise twin 400hp Mercury Verado V10 engines with an integrated joystick and triple 300hp Mercury Verado V8s. The yacht has lower and upper helms, the option of a Seakeeper gyro, and Groupe Beneteau’s Seanapps system to keep owners connected to their boat.

Accessed from the aft platform or by a starboard bulwark door, the covered cockpit has an L-shaped sofa to port and a folding table, while a starboard panel folds out to provide a balcony and easy access to the water. The foredeck has a triple integrated sunpad with an adjustable backrest.

Beneteau, Antares, weekender, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Alexis Chas

Sliding cockpit stairs lead to the large flybridge, which has a J-shaped dinette aft, wet bar, helm seat and companion seating, with the whole area able to be covered by a bimini.

A three-leaf cockpit door can be opened to access the wheelhouse. The saloon has a C-shaped dinette to port, with the forward end able to become companion seating due to an adjustable backrest. The table can be lowered to convert the dinette into a double berth. To starboard are a full galley and helm station, with centreline stairs forward.

The owner cabin in the bow is spacious and bright, with detailed trims, and has its own en-suite bathroom, as does the VIP guest cabin to port. A modular third room to starboard can be used as a single or double-berth cabin, or act as a storage room.

Alexis Chas, Antares Product Manager, said: “Designing a new Antares requires a keen sense of detail and balance. The new flagship of the line is no exception. The layout and equipment have been designed to optimise the feeling of space and comfort, and to improve the number of things you can do with the boat.

Beneteau, Antares, weekender, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Alexis Chas

“Versatility forces you to look for the right balance between indoor spaces and outdoor circulation, between opening to the elements and protecting passengers, and between performance and ease of use. Thanks to a close relationship with our customers, we’ve succeeded.”

Absolute lightens up on upcoming Navetta 70

The Italian builder is following up its flagship Navetta 75 with a slightly smaller version, distinguished by its light, bleached-timber interior.

Absolute, Navetta, 70, Absolute Marine, Cannes Yachting Festival, 2024, Hong Kong

Absolute plans to debut its Navetta 70 at the 2024 Cannes Yachting Festival, which will be held from September 10-15. The inland Italian builder, whose dealers in Asia include Absolute Marine in Hong Kong, is developing the model following the launch of the flagship Navetta 75, which premiered last year.

Absolute, Navetta, 70, Absolute Marine, Cannes Yachting Festival, 2024, Hong Kong

The Navetta 75 will incorporate Absolute signatures such as the open cockpit and flybridge aft deck. Both decks have infinity aft views through glass balustrades and can be dressed with modular furniture, such as facing sofas in the cockpit, which features an icemaker and a third mooring station.

The flexible, open design also features on the Navetta 75 and the brand’s most recent Fly models including the 60, 56 and new 52, which had its European debut at this year’s Cannes show.

Absolute, Navetta, 70, Absolute Marine, Cannes Yachting Festival, 2024, Hong Kong

The Navetta 70’s flybridge can also fit a long dining table and either a large outdoor galley and bar to port or matching wet bars on either side. The upper helm has a central pilot seat flanked by sofa seating, while the hard top can include an openable sunshade or feature fixed solar panels, an option introduced by Absolute in recent years.

The foredeck features a sofa and a large sunpad with an adjustable backrest that can be used for aft-facing seating. Other brand signatures include open lateral gunwales, covered walkways and extensive glazing on the main and lower decks.

Absolute, Navetta, 70, Absolute Marine, Cannes Yachting Festival, 2024, Hong Kong

Inside, themes include high ceilings, sliding doors and minimal use of steps on both the main and lower decks. The main deck features an aft galley and dining area before a saloon featuring sofas on three sides and a raised helm station.

However, the most notable change on the Navetta 70 is a “classic though highly contemporary interior design style” based on bleached timber in shades ranging from white to grey and black, with rounded corners on the furnishing accessories and bronzed details.

Absolute, Navetta, 70, Absolute Marine, Cannes Yachting Festival, 2024, Hong Kong

The saloon presents a new circular ceiling motif that’s repeated in other areas of the yacht, a free-standing table and an enlarged galley area.

The lower deck includes another Absolute signature, a forward master cabin, with a forward-facing doubled bed and a bathroom in the bow. Accommodation for eight guests also includes a full-beam VIP with en-suite midships and two twin guest cabins – one with sliding beds – that share a bathroom to port. Aft is the crew quarters, with two berths, a bathroom and a galley.

The crowd favourite Daytona celebrates its 60th in ice blue form, an exhibition case back revealing a new calibre.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona reference 126506

This article was first published on Issue #69 of World of Watches.

When we first saw the new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona at Watches and Wonders Geneva earlier this year, we thought it was the standout from the assortment at Rolex. That effectively means it would be one of the world’s most talked about watches this year. If you scan just the pages of our summer issue for World of Watches, you might begin to think that this may be true. To make a long story short, it is not — while the 60th anniversary of the world’s most important chronograph sees the watch on the podium, the comments sections on the Internet are very keen on two colourful stablemates.

The world has been here before, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Cosmograph Daytona. The special platinum version of the 2013 chronograph eventually proved to be very influential. Bear that in mind when looking at the 2023 version with its remarkable exhibition caseback (a first for the collection). The platinum model, reference 126506, is primarily a reference to the 2013 model, also because the aforementioned exhibition caseback allows us to talk directly about the new calibre 4131. This new calibre features the Rolex Chronergy escapement and other small improvements (reportedly to the self-winding system) but the official specifications remain unchanged.

To begin with, the watch retains all its signature features and does not see the introduction of a date mechanism or anything drastic like that. There is still enough that is different about this new reference, some of which are surprising. Space is certainly one area we can get into, because although the published specifications remain 40mm, the watch feels larger. The new collection does play with spaces everywhere, including the subdials whose tracks are now noticeably slimmer. The case itself is slimmer than the outgoing model, but the specifications say nothing about this.

caseback of Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona reference 126506

It should be noted that the visual and tactile changes will only be obvious to people who have worn and handled the latest reference and the outgoing one. If you have experience with more versions of this storied chronograph, you will have a deeper appreciation for the evolutionary journey of the Daytona even if you do have a favourite set of features. If you are totally new to the Daytona, then this will not matter at all. In fact, things will be clearer in some ways because Rolex is moving towards standardising elements of the Daytona, including the shape of the lugs (now symmetrical in all versions).

The bezel ring, an immediately recognisable change for 2023, is also consistent throughout the range of five current model references. This ring is in the same material as the case, although models with precious metal bezels will obviously not have this feature. Where it is deployed, the bezel remains completely in Cerachrom, not as an insert — it has just gotten a frame now, possibly for protective reasons but this is merely speculation on our part.

Nautor Swan is expanding its motor yacht range with the Arrow, which features a walkaround design, an expandable waterside beach club and up to three cabins.

Following the launch of the 43ft Shadow in 2021 and the inboard Overshadow, which debuted at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, Nautor Swan is developing the much larger Arrow, which is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2024 and will be the brand’s third motor yacht model.

Built in advanced composites mixing infused GRP and infused carbon, the 76ft 1in yacht with a 22ft 8in beam can be fitted with two or three 1,000hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 outboards, for top speeds of about 30 and 40 knots respectively.

Nautor, Swan, Arrow, motor yacht, Jarkko Jamsen, Leonardo Ferragamo

Leonardo Ferragamo, President of Nautor Group, said: “When we started designing the first model, we thought it would just be an incredibly beautiful chase boat to go alongside our Swans. When it was launched, the result was overwhelming as the Swan Shadow became a boat of its own, creating its specific niche in our waters and becoming a great day boat.

“The high acceptance gave us the strength and determination to follow this path designing a second version, Swan Overshadow, a ‘gran turismo’ compared to her sister, with inboard engines. We thought they both needed a bigger sister and the market was pushing us in this direction. This is how Swan Arrow was born, strongly enhancing the coherence of the unique identity we have created.”

Nautor, Swan, Arrow, motor yacht, Jarkko Jamsen, Leonardo Ferragamo

Designed by Jarkko Jamsen, the brand’s resident motor yacht designer, the Arrow is notable for its drop-down sides that increase the waterside beach area to 50sqm. The beach club features flexible furniture either side of central stairs up to the main deck.

Jamsen said: “What is essential when we think about a sailing yacht is the fact it’s mostly about spending time outdoors at sea. This ideology and the Med lifestyle were the initial inspiration for the concept of the Swan Arrow. We set out to maximise the sensation and enjoyment of being on the water and outdoors, and then we combined that with all the comforts of a motor yacht.”

Nautor, Swan, Arrow, motor yacht, Jarkko Jamsen, Leonardo Ferragamo

The main deck features side decks either side of a protected cockpit, which features an opening roof and a sliding, pivoting glass-door system. The covered area includes facing sofas, forward chairs, a central galley and a twin-seat helm station to starboard of stairs to the lower deck.

The lower deck includes a full-beam owner’s suite midships, a VIP in the bow, galley to port and a third guest cabin or a lounge to starboard, while the crew quarters for two is forward.

The Ferretti Group brand could kickstart its 30th anniversary with the world premiere of the wallypower50, little sister of the wallypower58 already in Asia.

Wally, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024, is expanding its motor yacht range with the wallypower50, which could have its global debut at Boot Dusseldorf from January 20-28.

The yacht will also be available in an outboard version, wallypower50X, following the wallypower58 and wallypower58X. The wallytender48 and wallytender43 were the brand’s first motor yachts since it joined the Ferretti Group and are also available in outboard ‘X’ versions.

Wally, wallypower, wallytender, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Boot Dusseldorf

Stefano de Vivo, Managing Director of Wally, said: “The new wallypower50 is a real key addition to the range, serving as a link between the wallytenders and the wallypowers. As such, we’ve imbued it with everything that both ranges offer and more.

“The wallypower50 sets a new standard for being flexible, practical, dynamic and – of course – iconic. It’s the ultimate example of the evolution of a species and it highlights once again that Wally remains several steps ahead of anything else on the market.”

Wally, wallypower, wallytender, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Boot Dusseldorf

The wallypower50 was designed to bridge the more open style of the wallytenders and the larger wallypower58.

With an extensive options list including the wraparound fender used on the wallytenders, the wallypower50 can be configured and specced for a range of uses from support vessel to standalone family cruiser.

Wally, wallypower, wallytender, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Boot Dusseldorf

Like the wallypower58, the wallypower 50 features drop-down wings, which add 6sqm of aft deck space. However, instead of central aft sunpad seen on the wallypower58, the wallypower50 features two separate sunbeds.

The upper cockpit area provides ample seating for eight guests under the coachroof plus four more on two forward-facing bench seats. Below is a large, flexible space, plus a bathroom with separate shower, a large couch and a double bed, with natural light from above and the option of Wally’s Magic Portholes, as seen on the wallypower58.

Wally, wallypower, wallytender, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Boot Dusseldorf

The closed cockpit is pushed far forward to provide space for inside/outside living, allowing its use in all weather conditions.

Featuring the same twin Volvo Penta IPS650s installed on the wallytender48, the wallypower50 can top 36 knots, cruise at 30 knots cruise and offers the option of easy joystick handling with DPS in close-quarters manoeuvres.

Wally, wallypower, wallytender, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Boot Dusseldorf

The deep-V hull aids stability and performance in bigger seas, while the model is also offered in the X version with four 400hp Mercury outboards that deliver 48 knots as well as a 240nm range. If the 500hp Mercury Racing options are chosen, the wallypower50X can exceed 50 knots.

Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and Chief Designer, said: “You can draw a direct line from the original, legendary wallypower118 to the wallypower50. The wallypower118’s heart beats within the wallypower50.

Wally, wallypower, wallytender, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Boot Dusseldorf

“The wallypower118’s sharp, angular lines, deep-V hull and aggressive double-chine profile are mirrored in the wallypower50’s dynamic and seaworthy hull, but the wallypower50 is perhaps the purest and most essential in form yet to earn the ‘power’ epithet.

“What’s more, its ability to be anything from chase boat to dayboat, offering everything from utilitarian support to ultimate style makes it another milestone launch for Wally.”

The Monaco Yacht Show is on course for another busy edition, with organisers confident the number of superyachts exhibiting inside Port Hercules from September 27-30 will top last year’s tally of 117. Almost that many yachts were listed by organisers over a month ahead of the show, with well over 40 listed as 2023 launches and exhibitors evenly split between shipyards and brokerage houses.

The line-up includes the 97.2m Lürssen megayacht Carinthia VII, designed by Tim Heywood and launched in 2002. However, for the first time, she’s being presented to the charter market, where she’s represented exclusively by Fraser, which is jointly exhibiting the 319ft megayacht with Lürssen at the show and displaying several other superyachts.

Carinthia VII was sold to her new owner by Fraser just ahead of last year’s Monaco Yacht Show and this year will reveal the results of its extensive refit at Lürssen’s Hamburg facilities. With Italy-based Bizzozero Cassina Architects overseeing design of the refit, changes include redesigned exterior decks with new lounge and living areas and a new 12m (39ft) pool and fitness room.

The 97m Carinthia VII

Peter Lürssen, Managing Partner of Lürssen, said: “I am very proud that after building Carinthia VII, we have now been able to participate in her new lease of life with an extensive refit. She remains a very particular vessel and is a testament to the solidity of our German engineering and manufacture.”

Mark Duncan, Fraser’s Director of Business Development & Marketing, added: “When speaking with clients after their charters, it’s fascinating to listen to which aspects of their experience resonate with them. For most it’s the crew, the food, the toys and the locations that always rate highly.

“For some, though, it’s very much about the yacht itself – the layouts, design, space, features and ambience. We suspect Carinthia VII is going to be as much a part of those after-charter dinner conversations as the unforgettable moments we know she’s going to help create for those who decide to book something exceptional.”

Other large yachts lined up for this year’s Monaco Yacht Show include the 91m Lady Lara (2015), for sale with Y.Co and Merle Wood & Associates, and the 90m Lürssen Phoenix 2 (2010), exhibited by Cecil Wright & Partners, while other brokerage houses had reserved slots for megayachts in the region of 90m.

The 83.5m Savannah

Feadship is exhibiting the 83.5m Savannah delivered in the Netherlands in 2015, while new builds include the 78m O’Rea by Golden Yachts of Greece and 80m Leona by Bilgin, the Turkish yard also showing the 42m Kasif.

The Italian Sea Group is showing the 75m Admiral Kensho delivered in 2021 and the new 55m Admiral Silver Star featuring interiors by Giorgio Armani, with the 20m Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 among the smaller yachts on show.

Six Amels superyachts and one Yacht Support will be on display, marking the highest number of Damen Yachting showcases presented together at one show. Italian and international yacht builders have again thrown their support behind the six-day Genoa International Boat Show (September 21-26), which takes place in the city’s revamped Eastern Waterfront area designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano, as the coastal zone continues to undergo an extensive upgrade.

Organisers have again said they expect about 1,000 boats on display, with an estimated quarter of that total in the water. Last year’s event attracted 104,000 visitors over the six days and city officials are confident of another successful edition, boosted by Genoa’s hosting of The Ocean Race finale over the summer.

Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa, said: “The city returns once again as the world’s yachting capital as it hosts the Genoa International Boat Show, an event that brings our city to the forefront on the global stage. The show is a historic event for yachting enthusiasts and a point of reference for the very best of Italian production, with a focus on a driving industry at the heart of the country’s economy.

“The event will star at the centre of one of the greatest infrastructural revolutions of our city: the construction of the new Eastern Waterfront, an area we’re gradually renovating and which demonstrates how our city is constantly looking to the future.”

Azimut’s provisional line-up includes the Magellano 60 and Fly 72 that both debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The Italian builder’s other models comprise the Atlantis 45 and Atlantis 51 cruisers, Fly 53 and Fly 68 flybridge models, and S7 (70ft) and S8 (81ft) sportbridge yachts.

Ferretti Group is showing Riva’s 82’ Diva, following its global debut at Cannes, along with a Dolceriva, Wally’s wallytender43X, Pershing’s high-performance 7X, Ferretti Yachts’ new 580 and 860 flybridge motor yachts, and a Custom Line Navetta 30, one of the show’s biggest yachts.

Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group’s CEO, said: “After the Private Preview in Monaco and the Cannes Yachting Festival, coming to Genoa and our splendid Italian showcase is always a special occasion. We’re in excellent shape after some hectic months focused on the Milan stock exchange listing and some major investments and we strongly believe in the development potential of our domestic market.

“To mark the occasion, we have seven amazing yachts at the Genoa International Boat Show, including some important new products. The 82’ Diva is a flybridge model that revolutionises onboard areas while preserving the Riva brand’s timeless appeal, while the Navetta 30 is Custom Line’s living work of art, featuring clean, powerful and seamless lines.”

Absolute is showing its Navetta 52, 64 and 68, while Cranchi’s 10-strong display includes its flagship Settantotto 78 Fly.

Evo is staging the Italian debut of the 18m R+, while day boat specialists include sister brands Invictus and Capoforte, Pardo and VanDutch, Solaris Power, Fiart and Apreamare.

Italia Yachts is showing its new 43 Veloce, the brand’s first motor yacht, while Italian-owned Nautor Swan is staging the Italy debut of its OverShadow, which is produced in Italy along with the Shadow, the Finnish brand’s first motor yacht.

Sweden’s Nimbus Group will have a display featuring multiple brands, Saxdor will show its new flagship 400 GTO, while fellow Finnish brand Axopar and Austria’s Frauscher are also among exhibitors.

Italian luxury RIB manufacturers include Sacs with its Rebel 47 and 50 G, and Strider 11 and 15, Tecnorib with all four of its Pirelli-branded boats (30, 35, 42, 50), Lomac with five models, while Nuova Jolly was listed as having over 20 boats. Other RIB builders include Williams and Highfield.

From the UK, Princess models include the V40, V55, F45, F55, new S72 and Y85, while fellow British builder Sunseeker, represented by Sunseeker Italy, will stage the Genoa debuts of the Superhawk 55 and 75 Sport Yacht unveiled earlier this year, along with the 65 Sport Yacht and Manhattan 68.

Andrea Frabetti, Sunseeker’s CEO, said: “Sunseeker looks forward to another year at Genoa International Boat Show with an exceptional team in-market to support our clients in Italy.

Genoa International Boat Show, Azimut, Ferretti Group, Sanlorenzo

“As one of our long-standing dealers in the Mediterranean, Sunseeker Italy offers the very best in sales expertise and service. We’re thrilled to be represented by this exceptional team at Italy’s largest boat show.”

Catamaran builders include Lagoon, showing its 46 and 51 sailing cats, while sister brand Excess is displaying its 11 and 14. Fountaine Pajot’s line-up includes the Isla 40, Elba 45 and Samana 59, as well as its MY4.S powercat, while Leopard shows its new 40 Powercat.

The show has a strong sailing zone and Italy’s Grand Soleil could have eight sailing monohulls from the 40 to new 72 Long Cruise. Solaris Yachts is showing five models from the 40 to 64 RS, while the line-up includes a CNB 78, produced by the former Groupe Beneteau brand now owned by Solaris.

Swan will stage the Italy debut of its Swan 48MKII and show its Swan 55, while other exhibitors include Italia Yachts. French brands include Beneteau, which is displaying the new Oceanis 37.1 following its world premiere at Cannes along with the First 44, Oceanis 46.1 and Oceanis Yacht 54.

Sister brand Jeanneau is showcasing its new Jeanneau Yachts 55 – which debuted at Boot in January – along with its flagship Jeanneau Yachts 65 and three Sun Odyssey models: 380, 410 and 440. Hanse and Bavaria will each display several models, while fellow German builder Y Yachts will show its 72ft, all-carbon Y7.

On the evening of September 22, the show hosts the fourth Design Innovation Award, which features 10 categories across sailing and motor boats, superyachts, multihulls, RIBs and boating equipment, as well as three special prizes and up to two honorary mentions.

Liguria, the coastal region stretching from the French border to the west and La Spezia to the east, is among the leading areas in the production of yachts and superyachts in Italy, which builds about half of the world’s 24m-plus yachts according to regional officials.

Giovanni Toti, President of the Liguria Region, said: “Genoa and Liguria are proud to host the 63rd Genoa International Boat Show. The event finds its natural location in our region, given Liguria’s

inseparable bond not only with the sea but also with the yachting sector and, more generally, with the marine economy, the true pillar on which the development and growth of this territory rests.

“This year’s Genoa International Boat Show will see over 1,000 boats on display at the Fiera di Genova (‘Genoa Fair’). It’s a symbolic and iconic location, which is increasingly connected to the city and is changing its appearance thanks to the magnificent Eastern Waterfront project.

“All show participants will be able to admire the new navigable canals that have brought the waters of the Mediterranean even closer to the city, making the unbreakable bond that ties Liguria to the sea, a key element of its identity, even closer.”

The new entry model for Azimut’s fast-growing navetta line, the Magellano 60 is set to debut in Asia in early 2024 following sales into Hong Kong and Taiwan by Marine Italia.

The Magellano 60 joins the 66 (20m), 25M and 30M models

In 2009, Azimut launched its first semi-displacement navetta, a 22.5m motor yacht designed with longer-range cruising in mind. A versatile crossover cruiser, the Ken Freivokh-designed 74-footer had the clean and timeless look of a trawler spiked by the addition of large, glazed surfaces and contemporary interiors. It proved so popular that it became the first unit in a series called the Magellano.

The latest arrival to the Magellano fold is a little sister, the 60, which wears its family resemblance proudly and debuted at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival before exhibiting at the Genoa International Boat Show. Marine Italia has already sold units in Hong Kong and Taiwan, due in spring 2024, with the regional dealer also representing Azimut in Macau, Guangdong and Singapore.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

Ken Freivokh designed the exterior

Freivokh has kept the same clean look for the entire Magellano line that today comprises yachts ranging in size from the 60 (18.5m) and 66 (20.15m) to the 25M and 30M, with a unit of the series flagship set to arrive in Hong Kong in spring 2024 following a sale by Marine Italia. Incredibly, the four models across the entire series look similar – and similarly good.

The exterior of the new Magellano 60 has the same straight bow, horizontal hull lines and teak inserts in the fashion plates as her bigger sisters, while the hull colour of choice remains ottanio, a dark teal that looks beautiful on the water.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

The aft cockpit has a glass parapet and facing sofas

Swedish naval architectural studio Profjord AB and Azimut’s own R&D Department designed an efficient new semi-planing Dual Mode hull shape for a boat that, fuel wise, has been designed for the future.

As well as traditional fuel, the Magellano 60 can run on HVOlution developed by Eni Sustainable Mobility, as first shown when hull one used the biofuel made of HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) on its trip from Savona to Taormina for the model’s private showing at Azimut’s annual Yachting Gala event.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

The table can be lowered or raised and folded out for alfresco dining

At its ideal cruising speed of 18 knots, the Magellano 60 runs solidly in the water with a comfortable top speed of about 24 knots with twin 730hp MAN engines and shaft drive.

FROM OUT TO IN

The beach platform can be used both for swimming and for launching the tender or toys depending on the position it’s set at. And who would guess that what looks like a storage unit in the aft cockpit leads to a crew cabin, another essential feature for owners who want to charter or like to be able to kick back and relax after enjoying their day on the water.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

The aft galley is set a step below the saloon

The extra-large cockpit sets the tone for the rest of the yacht, where outdoor life and views to the water are given top priority. Longitudinal couches face each other and the water around the boat and a teak-capped glass aft closure leaves views free and clear. The cockpit table between the sofas can be set low for use as a coffee table or raised and folded out to offer covered, alfresco dining.

Forward to port are two bar stools that connect the cockpit to the interior, with the galley set at the aft end of the saloon. Just open the door between the cockpit and the saloon, and drop a sliding window into the bar and serving area, and the galley becomes part of the cockpit area, an ideal setup that makes cooking for friends part of the fun.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

The saloon has a C-shaped sofa to port and facing sofas to starboard

Set one step up from the cockpit and galley, the saloon is like a glasshouse with views straight through and side-to-side that are so free and open that you could forget you’re indoors.

A C-shaped sofa frames the port side of the saloon, while to starboard are two-seat sofas either side of a table that – like in the cockpit – can transform from a coffee table to a dining table. The floor-to- ceiling window on the starboard side is truly a sight to behold.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

Aft view of the saloon shows the huge, full-height window on the starboard side

The yacht’s colour theme is played to its best advantage, with the teal hull colour picked up and repeated.

Soft, curved furnishings in shades of white are set off by black accents that are as chic as the piping on a Chanel suit, an effect carried over to the three bright and spacious cabins on the lower deck, comprising a VIP fore, a twin to starboard and an owner’s cabin midships.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

The beautifully decorated full-beam owner’s suite

The full-beam owner’s suite is a picture of studied elegance, with a round mirror set in the centre of an aft bulkhead covered in light, fluted panelling. There’s a sofa to starboard and a long storage counter to port, hanging cupboards on both sides and an en-suite bathroom.

THE LONG GAME

As the name implies, Azimut’s Magellano series is all about enjoying navigation and exploration. The indoor helm station, just one step up from the cockpit and galley, is an integral part of the boat’s social setup and everyone aboard can enjoy observing the boat at work.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

The flybridge includes a C-shaped dinette to port and a sunbathing area beside the helm

However, there’s no better spot to helm than on the flybridge. The helming position fore is imminently social, flanked by a portside sun pad whose headrest slides back to become part of the C-shaped seating around the dining table when needed.

Owners can select an outdoor kitchen with a grill, while the aft area can feature two facing sofas – like in the cockpit – or a C-shaped settee-cum-sun lounger. Owners can choose to mount a carbon-fibre hard top or include a bimini, or even just leave the space entirely open.

Azimut, Magellano 60, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Marine Italia, Cannes Yachting Festival

The foredeck is shown with the triple sunpad folded up to create an aft-facing sofa

The same smart seating with convertible backrests is used on the foredeck. The social area in the bow starts with a fixed forward-facing sofa, while a section of the forward triple sunpad can be folded up to offer an aft-facing sofa, helping create four sides of seating around the flexible table.

The clever design of the foredeck makes it another outdoor space that can be enjoyed all day, whether you’re cruising along in the sunshine watching the scenery go by or enjoying a drink at anchor, with shade provided by a canopy mounted on four carbon poles.

The Azimut Magellano 60 packs all the series’ key features of seaworthiness, flexibility of use, efficiency and range into a tidy package that looks just as good and lives just as well as her larger sisterships, proving that when it comes to Magellano in the Azimut sense, it’s an outlook on life at sea that counts more than anything else.

Johan Pizzardini, Monaco Yacht Show’s Head of Communications & Media, explains what makes the four-day event “an unmissable event in the yachting world”.

Monaco Yacht Show, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht, yacht, Yacht Club de Monaco

Johan Pizzardini, Head of Communications & Media, Monaco Yacht Show

Johan, can you give us a bit of background about yourself and your time working on the Monaco Yacht Show?

I’ve been involved in the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) for 19 years, and it feels like a different era in yachting media from when I started! Back then, the show wasn’t the global superyacht reference it is today, drawing coverage from top-tier international media.

As part of our dedicated organising team, truly engaged in offering one of the greatest yachting events, I take pride in having played a role in developing the comprehensive media and communication strategy for the MYS, helping position it as a premier event on the social elite calendar.

What distinguishes the Monaco Yacht Show from other boat shows around the world?

Since its very first edition back in 1991, the Monaco Yacht Show has stayed true to its mission, focusing on the world of superyachts, specifically those 24m and larger. It was created as a platform for yachtsmen, yacht owners and charterers to explore the captivating world of yachting from every possible angle.

Situated against the stunning backdrop of the Principality of Monaco, the MYS offers a unique opportunity for potential clients to dive deep into every facet of yachting. With its impressive display of cutting-edge vessels, presence of industry experts, and showcasing the latest advancements, it stands as the ultimate destination for uncovering the entire yachting universe.

And let’s not forget, the Monaco Yacht Show is all about catering to discerning clients, truly capturing the essence of the complete yachting experience, and embracing the dreams and aspirations of the next generation of yacht enthusiasts and potential clients.

Can you give some figures to indicate the scale of the event?

The Monaco Yacht Show has always championed quality over quantity. With 560 exhibitors, 117 superyachts, and thematic displays featuring luxury cars and helicopters, our focus has been on providing a premium experience from the start.

Monaco Yacht Show, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht, yacht, Yacht Club de Monaco

The Monaco Yacht Show is held in Port Hercules

Last year, 24,000 visitors attended, and we anticipate a similar turnout in 2023, although before the pandemic, we used to welcome over 30,000 visitors. Interestingly, Covid-19 unexpectedly reshaped our approach to life, and with the return of the 2021 edition after the cancellation in 2020, attendees eagerly embraced it as a vibrant renaissance of social interaction.

We believe in a one-on-one approach, and with support from the Informa Group and industry stakeholders, we’ve consciously reduced the number of visitors to prioritise the quality of the experience. Whether you’re a seasoned yachtsman, a new owner or an industry leader seeking connections, the Monaco Yacht Show must remain the pinnacle of the yachting world.

Can you explain the difference between the prominent yacht exhibitors?

Yacht builders seize the opportunity to exhibit their know-how in crafting stunning vessels. They aim to impress potential clients with their design and construction prowess, showcasing new models as a testament to their innovative capabilities. Approximately 40 brand-new yacht deliveries are unveiled in world premieres during the show, contributing to its unique allure.

Simultaneously, brokerage houses make every effort to exhibit their latest offerings available for purchase or charter, presenting a diverse range of yachts on the market. This exclusivity means that if you miss an edition, you won’t have the chance to witness the same collection of jaw-dropping yachts the following year, making the Monaco Yacht Show an unmissable event in the yachting world.

The show is held in Port Hercules and overlooked by the Yacht Club de Monaco. What role does the yacht club play in the show?

The Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), often hailed as the world’s most beautiful yacht club, serves as an additional hub for the high-end visitors during the show. YCM actively participates in the show’s social events, hosting conferences, dinners, and cocktail parties. This not only enhances the social aspect but also enriches the visit experience, creating a perfect blend of luxury, networking, and industry engagement.

Monaco and the Yacht Club de Monaco are both very active in the sustainability sector. Can you tell us about the Monaco Yacht Show’s history of promoting eco-friendly yachting?

The Monaco Yacht Show has led the way in promoting eco-friendly yachting practices since 2005. Recently, it reinforced its commitment to sustainability with the launch in 2022 of the Sustainability Hub, a dedicated exhibition for green solutions in yachting.

Monaco Yacht Show, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht, yacht, Yacht Club de Monaco

Johan Pizzardini being interviewed

The show consistently features green technologies and encourages eco-conscious practices among exhibitors and visitors alike. It facilitates industry-wide dialogues on sustainability, emphasising responsible yachting.

Last year, the show initiated a carbon neutrality plan (click for article), aligning with the Monaco Transition Energy program and Informa’s FasterForward initiative to sustainable business, with the aim of achieving net-zero emissions. This underscores our dedication to actively contribute to environmental preservation as a boat show organizer.

Sunreef Yachts will be exhibiting an 80 Eco sailing catamaran and an 80 Sunreef Power powercat next to each other this year. Can you tell us about these yachts and which/how many other superyachts on display this year are using solar-electric power, hybrid propulsion, hydrogen or any other eco-friendly power sources?

These Sunreef sailing and power catamarans are two of the most innovative and eco-friendly superyachts on the market. I prefer focusing on yachting in general, not on specific yachts, as yachting has been shifting to more sustainability and builders have been researching and developing viable sustainable solutions for their yachts.

The Sustainability Hub is a real highlight of these solutions and we expect to see the fruits of the development of sustainable solutions in the building and maintenance of yachts in the coming years. We would dare to dream of displaying only sustainable yachts in the future.

Finally, is there anything else our readers should know about the Monaco Yacht Show?

Monaco Yacht Show is a one-of-a-kind event, featuring new projects unveiled annually. Missing even a single year means missing out on the extraordinary concentration of superyachts and megayachts on display.

For those keen on chartering or purchasing, it would entail extensive voyages across the seven seas, along with weeks of visits to shipyards and marinas to discover these exceptional vessels. I think it might just be time to start planning your earliest flight to Monaco!

Galeon 560 Fly

MOTOR YACHTS: INTERNATIONAL

Galeon is having another exciting year for new models, having launched the 375 GTO and flagship 800 Fly last year.

This year, the Polish builder held the world premieres of its 440 Fly and 560 Fly at the Miami International Boat Show and showed them at the Cannes Yachting Festival, with both models integrating the same drop-down sides seen on flybridge sisters like the 400, 500 and 640.

Galeon 440 Fly

In the three-cabin 560, the saloon can open on both sides, to port for a waterside bar and fully to starboard, where the interior dining area can be converted into alfresco dining with sea views over the fold-down balcony.

The three-cabin 440 has a much larger saloon than the 400, with sofas on both sides, while both new Fly models feature the multi-functional cockpits, foredecks and enormous flybridges the brand is known for.

Galeon 450 HTC

Galeon has also launched the 450 HTC, a hard top coupe model set to premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 25-29. Features include a high-low swim platform featuring integrated steps, a flip-up outdoor galley aft of the cockpit, a sliding cockpit bimini, an opening sunroof inside and three cabins below.

The newest model from Nimbus is the Weekender 11 (W11), which debuted at Cannes. The 41-footer is grouped with the W9 and 305 Drophead in the Swedish builder’s Day Cruiser series, but is a semi-enclosed ‘weekender’ built on the same hull as the open Tender 11 and the enclosed Commuter 11.

Nimbus W11

Fitted with twin Mercury outboards, either 300hp V8s or 400hp V10s, the yacht starts with an aft facing sofa before a covered J-shaped seating area with outdoor galley. There’s also a foredeck sunbathing area that can be covered by a bimini, and a lower deck with two double beds and a bathroom.

Swan Overshadow

Also at Cannes, Nautor Swan debuted its 43ft OverShadow, which is produced with the Shadow – the Finnish brand’s first motor yacht – at ‘Casa Shadow’ in Italy in partnership with Oversea Italy. The OverShadow is effectively the inboard version of the Shadow and features additional space below deck.

Spanish builder Tesoro debuted its T38 Powercat at Cannes, while Gulf Craft premiered its flagship power catamaran, the two-cabin SilverCat 46 Lux, at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show. Adding to the 34 (CC, HT, Lux) and 40 (CC, Lux) models in the range, the SilverCat 46 Lux is available with two 440hp inboard engines or even four 400hp outboards.

Gulf Craft Majesty 111

However, Gulf Craft’s most high-profile world premieres at this year’s Dubai show were the Majesty 111, later exhibiting at the Monaco Yacht Show, and the Nomad 101, which appeared at the Sydney International Boat Show in August.

Designed with Netherlands-based Phathom Studio, the 34m, 240GT Majesty 111 has a semi-displacement hull, enclosed skylounge, main-deck owner’s stateroom with a skylight into the flybridge plunge pool, plus five lower-deck guest cabins including a 15sqm forward VIP suite. There’s also storage for a 4m-plus tender and jet-ski, and a three-cabin crew quarters for up to six crew.

Gulf Craft Nomad 101

An extended, tri-deck version of the Nomad 95 SUV, the 130GT Nomad 101 has a new sky deck and a full-walkaround upper deck with 35sqm of exterior area and 16sqm of interior lounge space. Accommodation includes a main-deck master suite and four ensuite guest cabins on the lower deck. The yacht can carry a Williams TurboJet 325 tender and two three-seater jet-skis.

Aquila has released two new models this year, starting with the 42 Yacht, which had its world premiere at Miami and had its European debut at Cannes.

Aquila 42 Yacht

The new entry model for the powercat leader’s Yacht range of flybridge models including the 44, 54 and flagship 70, the 42 Yacht retains brand signatures like large outdoor areas, a cockpit bar and flybridge-foredeck steps, while introducing new cabin options below deck and a new swinging hammock off the tender crane.

Aquila’s second new model is the 47 Molokai, set to debut at Fort Lauderdale and reputed to have a top speed over 50 knots. Following the 28 Molokai, the 47 Molokai is the second model in the brand’s Offshore series of fishing boats. Boasting an overall length of 49ft 4in, the ‘Big Kahuna’ has a 45ft 8in, double-stepped hull, which helps reduce drag and improve handling and stability, while its bulkheads are in carbon-fibre.

Yachts, Galeon, Nimbus, Gulf Craft, Majesty, Nomad, Swan, Leopard, Sunreef, Aquila, Tesoro

Leopard 40 Powercat

Like Aquila, Leopard had a major premiere at Miami, with the new 40 Powercat completing the brand’s new-look family of powercats, which also includes the 46 and flagship 53, all by Simonis Voogd Design and built in Cape Town, South Africa.

The 40 Powercat features what Leopard describes as the largest flybridge ever seen on a 40-footer,  while other exterior spaces include the transoms, aft cockpit and foredeck sunpads. The foredeck is accessible by the side decks or through the forward saloon door, a brand signature since 2010. A full-length en-suite owner’s cabin occupies the starboard hull, while to port are two guest cabins and a shared bathroom.

70 Sunreef Power

Poland’s Sunreef Yachts is enjoying another spectacular year for new models and hosted three world premieres at Cannes, comprising the 70 Eco sailing cat in Port Canto and two powercats in Vieux Port. One of them was the 70 Sunreef Power, which joins the 60 and 80 models in the builder’s standard range of luxury powercats.

The 80 Sunreef Power Eco – based on the 80 Sunreef Power – was arguably the most exciting of the builder’s premieres as it’s the first powercat from the Eco range to be displayed at a major boat show, although the yacht on show in Cannes and Monaco is the model’s third unit (hull two, Sol, appeared on the cover of Issue 72).

Sol, the second 80 Sunreef Power Eco

The first 60 Sunreef Power Eco is also expected to launch this year. All Eco models feature Sunreef’s in-house ‘solar skin’ – which is less than 1mm thick – integrated into the hulls, superstructure and bimini roof, as well as an ultralight battery bank.
