With Europe’s autumn boat show season and Fort Lauderdale in late October marking the prime period for world premieres, Yacht Style highlights many of the year’s most exciting new models by the world’s leading luxury yacht builders.

The following article is the first chapter of New Models 2023 from Issue 73 (click to read/download)

MOTOR YACHTS: ITALY

It’s another exciting year for Ferretti Group, which is hosting two of the most exciting world premieres at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17): Pershing’s series-opening GTX116, also set to display at the Monaco Yacht Show (September 27-30), and Riva’s 82’ Diva, which goes on to exhibit at the Genoa International Boat Show (September 21-26).

Pershing produces the GTX116 at its Mondolfo facility on Italy’s east coast then trucks the yachts 30km up the coast to Fano for launching. Hull one, Caffeine, splashed in February before attending the Monaco Grand Prix in May, while hull two was launched in July, showing off a similar grey hull and blue deckhouse.

Pershing GTX116

Designed with the Fulvio De Simoni studio, the GTX116 is arguably the builder’s most exciting new model since the Pershing 140 and takes the brand into the ‘sport utility yacht’ sector. The 35m motor yacht has a 7.7m beam and a triple waterjet system with the option of three 1,800hp or 2,000hp MAN V12s, the latter providing a top speed of 35.5 knots and a cruising speed of 29.5 knots.

Outdoor areas include a multi-level beach club with an electrohydraulic taffrail, a 40sqm flybridge and a foredeck with the option of a six-person jacuzzi. The main deck features outdoor and indoor dining areas separated by a roomy saloon, while the lower deck offers a full-beam master suite and four guest cabins.

Riva 82’ Diva

The new 82’ Diva is produced at Riva’s La Spezia facility on Italy’s west coast, which builds the brand’s 76-130ft models including its fellow Flybridge models: 90’ Argo, 102’ Corsaro Super, 110’ Dolcevita and 130’ Bellissima, all by Officina Italiana Design.

The 82’ Diva is the first Riva to feature drop-down bulwarks either side of the swim platform and they expand the yacht’s beam from 20ft to 30ft. Other highlights for the Flybridge range’s new entry model include a garage for a 3.45m jet tender and a 40sqm flybridge, which Riva has described as one of the largest for this size of yacht and is about the same size as the fly on the Pershing GTX116.

Diva owners can choose twin 1,800hp MAN V12s or upgrade to 1,900hp versions, which produce a top speed of 31 knots and a cruising speed of 27 knots.

Wally wallwhy150

Wally’s new wallywhy150 debuted at this year’s Venice Boat Show and is scheduled to exhibit at both Cannes and Monaco. Following the concept of the 89ft, 200GT wallywhy200, which debuted at Cannes in 2021, the wallywhy150 offers 150GT of interior volume on a 79ft yacht and can reach 23 knots with three IPS1350 engines.

Wally’s other premiere this year was the wallypower58x, with the outboard version of the wallypower58 debuting at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in Florida and topping 50 knots with four 600hp Mercury Verado V12 outboard engines.

Ferretti Yachts 580

Ferretti Yachts started the year by debuting its 580 at the Boot Dusseldorf indoor show, as the builder continues refreshing its Flybridge series with exterior designs by Filippo Salvetti and interiors by IdeaeItalia, offering Classic or Contemporary decors.

The model features an aft galley and a raised saloon with sofas on both sides, three double guest cabins below, and twin 900mhp or 1,000mhp Volvo Penta engines.

Azimut Magellano 60

Azimut’s new models include the Magellano 60, a world premiere at Cannes and set to show at Genoa. It’s notable for being the brand’s first model to be fuelled by HVOlution – a brand of hydrogenated vegetable oil by Eni Sustainable Mobility – as it cruised from Savona to Taormina for the brand’s annual Yachting Gala event for owners this summer.

The Magellano 60 is the new entry model for a range that includes the upgraded Magellano 66, Magellano 25M and flagship Magellano 30M, with the new 66 and 30M launched last year. Magellano 60 features include an infinity cockpit, aft galley and a forward saloon with a starboard dining area offering spectacular views through full-height windows.

Azimut Verve 48

Azimut is also debuting the Verve 48 at Cannes. An upgrade of the Verve 47, the Verve 48 reveals new developments by Azimut and Francesco Struglia, who designed the interiors and exteriors. The stern area is completely new, larger and integrated with two ladders to easily get into the water, while the yacht features a drop-down bulwark on the port side.

The Verve 48 also reveals a new hard top that’s available with an opening tempered glass insert, which reduces weight and lets in light and air, even at anchor. Powered by three 600hp Mercury V12s, the Verve 48 can reach up to 50 knots, while fuel consumption during cruising speeds has been reduced by 15 per cent and noise has been reduced by up to 10 decibels compared to the Verve 47.

Azimut S7

Azimut’s first premiere of the year was the S7, which was unveiled at Boot and has its in-water premiere at Cannes. Complementing the S6, S8 and S10 in the sportbridge range, the 71-footer can reach 35 knots with three 800hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1050 engines.

Featuring exterior design by regular Azimut collaborator Alberto Mancini, the S7 features an extended sport fly with dining and lounging areas and a wet bar, while the garage can house a custom version of the Pirelli J33 tender and a jet-ski.

However, the S7 is arguably more notable for being the brand’s first model to feature interior design by Yachtique, which focused on colour shades ranging from cream to almond to dark brown. The main wood is pale Dove grey, while flamed Canaletto walnut is used to finish the furnishings.

CGI of Sanlorenzo SX100

Sanlorenzo has filled out its iconic SX ‘crossover’ series with the SX100, which is a world premiere at Cannes and joins the SX76, SX88 and SX112. A new hull is expected to be delivered to Southeast Asia in April 2024, having been sold shortly after the model’s announcement at last year’s Cannes show.

Sanlorenzo’s premieres also include the 57Steel, scheduled to debut at Monaco and notable for its vast volume of 1,050GT, more than double that of the 52Steel.

CGI of Bluegame BGM75

Sister brand Bluegame is staging the premiere of its much-anticipated BGM75 multihull motor yacht at Cannes, which combines naval architecture by Philippe Briand, exterior design by Bernardo Zuccon and an interior by Sanlorenzo Art Director Piero Lissoni. The yacht will show at Genoa and Monaco later in the month.

Absolute 52 Fly

Absolute’s new model for 2023 is the 52 Fly, which premiered at this year’s Miami International Boat Show and is among the builder’s strong line-up at Cannes.

In line with Absolute’s new generation of flybridge yachts led by the 60 Fly and the 56 Fly, the 52 Fly also has infinity aft decks and modular furniture in both the cockpit and flybridge, as well as opening saloon windows, while the lower deck includes a full-beam master cabin in the bow, two doubles midships, and a versatile crew cabin. It also offers the option of solar panels on the hard top.

Invictus TT420

Meanwhile, Invictus is showing the TT420 at Cannes following the model’s unveiling at Boot. The model helps fill out a Christian Grande-designed series that includes the TT280, TT280S and T460, and offers many of the flagship’s best features in a 12.3m model.

Asia Yachting Group, a leading regional dealer founded and led by Olivier Besson, is partnering with BlackOrange, a boutique superyacht brokerage firm headed by Greg Gheraia. Asia Yachting’s new yacht portfolio includes Prestige, Fountaine Pajot and Nautique, while BlackOrange focuses on 30m-plus superyachts and remains a standalone brand within Asia Yachting Group.

Besson, Asia Yachting’s CEO, said: “BlackOrange is a dynamic independent company with a superyacht sales and charter business that, when partnering with Asia Yachting, will allow us to accelerate our strategic growth plans.”

The acquisition supplements Asia Yachting’s specialisation in luxury yacht dealership, brokerage, management and after-sales service in Asia with BlackOrange’s positioning as a renowned global boutique superyacht brokerage firm.

Both Asia Yachting and BlackOrange have had strong years to date. Asia Yachting has nearly 150 active listings in the luxury yacht sector and has brokered over 15 pre-owned yachts so far this year including 888, a 38m Azimut Grande Trideck delivered in early 2023.

Over the last 10 months, BlackOrange has achieved 10 superyacht sales including the 56m Benetti Lady Candy. It has also brokered other sales and been appointed to market megayachts such as a 155m Lürssen and a 90m Lürssen.

Gheraia, Director of BlackOrange, said: “This partnership will make us even stronger and more effective in ensuring our clients’ best interests. Join us at the upcoming yacht shows in Cannes and Monaco to witness the first wave of our exciting new developments.”

A new Ferretti Yachts 860 was one of the most high-profile Asia premieres at this year’s Singapore Yachting Festival, as it shone alongside Ferretti Yachts 500 and 780 models at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove.

Among several high-profile Ferretti Group models to arrive in Asia this year – including the region’s first wallywhy200, wallypower58 and Riva 76’ Perseo Super – the Ferretti Yachts 860 was a true head turner at the four-day event.

However, it was just a first stop in Southeast Asia for the 88ft flybridge motor yacht, as it then moved on to its new home in Phuket, having been sold before its arrival by dealer V Yachts Asia, which last year hosted the Thailand premiere of the Ferretti Yachts 500 in Pattaya.

Like Ferretti Yachts’ flagship 1000, the 860 features an infinity cockpit with a glass parapet

Built alongside the brand’s biggest yachts from the 780 upwards in Ferretti Group’s Cattolica shipyard on Italy’s east coast, the 860 is Ferretti Yachts’ third-biggest model behind the 920 and the flagship1000, a model that has been delivered to Taiwan and mainland China over the past year or so.

A world premiere at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival and successor to the 850, the Ferretti Yachts 860 is also among the brand’s new wave of models featuring the option of Classic or Contemporary interiors by IdeaeItalia, also seen on the 500, 1000, upgraded 780 and new 580 that debuted this year.

The Ferretti Yachts 860 offers a high-low swim platform

The 860 also features a sleek, powerful silhouette by architect Filippo Salvetti, who has worked on the exterior of these recent models as well as earlier designs like the 670 and 720, all in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari and its Engineering Department.

As such, apart from the 920, the Italian has drawn all of Ferretti Yachts’ current Flybridge models and also collaborated with IdeaeItalia on the brand’s new Infynito 90.

With an overall length of 88ft 5in and a beam of 20ft 5in, the Ferretti Yachts 860 is just an inch shorter than the Infynito 90 but is 3ft 8in slimmer, following the Flybridge series’ classic lines and impressive performance while also remaining a CE-certified recreational craft due to a sub-24m load-line length.

The huge garage can fit a jet-ski and a 3.95m tender

Its standard engines are twin 1,800mph MAN V12 engines, which give a cruising speed of 24 knots and a top speed of 28. However, the first 860 in Asia features the upgraded option of 2,000mph MAN V12s, for a cruising speed of 27 knots and a top speed of 32, impressive for an 80-tonne yacht.

INFINITY OUTLOOK

While the yacht’s smooth lines are inviting, the aft cockpit and beach club are even more so. Like the flagship 1000, the 860 features an infinity cockpit with a glass parapet for greater views. The yacht also has a remarkably large garage with space for both a Williams SportJet 395 tender and a two-seat jetski, which can be launched directly into the water by lowering the swim platform.

The starboard side deck leads past an opening door by the dining area

Reached by two symmetrical stairways either side of the garage door, the cockpit is set up with two long sofas facing each other and ensuring all guests enjoy sea views. The sofas flank a huge, almost square central table that can seat eight people for alfresco dining with the addition of foldable director chairs, plus there’s a bar to port, another way of keeping guests entertained in this sheltered area.

Side decks lead to the foredeck, an attractive zone featuring an oversize, forward-facing sofa incorporating a central armrest and built-in  glass holders. Forward is a teak coffee table and a C-shaped sofa bed featuring reclining backrests and headrests, while a sunshade supported by carbon posts can be erected when needed.

The foredeck offers a four-sided seating area

The cockpit’s starboard stairs lead to a vast flybridge offering 44sqm (474sqft) of social space, starting with a clear aft area that can be furnished with freestanding furniture such as sunbeds or even a jacuzzi, made available for the first time on a Ferretti Yachts model.

Forward to port is an L-shaped dinette that can seat up to eight people, while further forward is a large double sunpad sheltered by the low windscreen. To starboard is the twin-seat helm station, while behind it is a large, two-piece multi-functional outdoor galley that can be accompanied by bar stools.

The flybridge features a dinette and sunbeds to port, a huge bar and helm to starboard, plus a clear area aft (not pictured)

The forward part of the flybridge is covered by a black-and-white hard top, which is available with fixed glass, an opening glass sunroof or with shading blades.

INTERIOR SOPHISTICATION

Back in the cockpit, the door to the saloon can be fully opened, either electrically or manually, and leads guests to an interior featuring Art Deco-inspired curves and a sophisticated decor – or choice of decors.

Interior photos show IdeaeItalia’s Classic mood, as selected for the first hull in Asia

The hull in Thailand features IdeaeItalia’s Classic mood, characterised by darker, warmer colours and striking contrasts, as evident in the throw pillows seen everywhere from the outdoor areas to the saloon and cabins. The Contemporary option presents paler, cooler colours characterised by tone-on tone shades through to total white.

The saloon is immediately notable for its magnificent floor-to-ceiling windows and features adjoining sofas to starboard that combine to offer an L-shaped seating area, while there’s plenty more space for loose chairs. To port is a low-set counter and a 75-inch TV.

The saloon features full-height windows and a sliding door by the dining area

Forward, a large dining table can seat eight people, while to starboard a sliding door offers great views and ventilation for guests, as well as direct access to the side deck.

The hallway leads past the lower-deck staircase to a day head on the port side. To starboard is a comprehensive galley, which can be enclosed or open and includes a ceramic hob, microwave/oven, 302-litre fridge and 117-litre freezer, as well as a side deck door.

Ferretti Yachts’ first helical staircase leads to four en-suite guest cabins

The hallway leads further forward and up a couple of steps to an elegantly finished, semi-raised pilothouse featuring Poltrona Frau pilot chairs. Onboard technology includes a Seakeeper stabiliser on the Thailand hull, while fin stabilisers and Xenta’s X-AID joystick docking system are among options.

Deliberately set apart from the guest areas by a sliding door, the pilothouse has a dinette to port that can be used as a chart table or for crew dining, while forward is private access to a pair of twin-bunk crew cabins with private bathrooms.

Port view of the full-beam master suite

Owners and guests reach their rooms by another Ferretti Yachts first, a helical staircase, which is port side of the dining table and presents a beautifully crafted passage down to the four en-suite guest cabins.

The full-beam owner’s cabin is midships and features a large, twin-sink bathroom and ample storage including a walk-in wardrobe, while it also benefits from innovative acoustic insulation solutions. To port is a twin cabin with forward-facing beds, while to starboard are two double cabins with inward-facing beds including a full-beam VIP suite forward.

Salvetti and IdeaeItalia have found their groove with Ferretti Yachts and the 860 is another fine example of a classic yet contemporary flybridge motor yacht, highlighted by novel features that show a brand always looking ahead.

Sylvie Ernoult, Director, Cannes Yachting Festival

A new feature of this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival is the in-water exhibition area for 8-12m boats in Vieux Port (‘Old Port’). How many boats do you expect in there?

We expect about 50 smaller boats from almost 30 brands including Canelli, Cormate, Hanse, Rand, Regal, Sea Ray, Nautic and White Shark. In addition, I’m happy to confirm that the brokerage section was fully booked as of the second week of August, which was at least three weeks earlier than for the past two editions.

Situated beside the sailing area in Port Canto, the brokerage and toys area will present interesting content including a lot of innovative water toys ashore and 48 brokerage yachts in the water including at least 10 big sailing boats.

Will Vieux Port again host a dedicated zone for electric boats?

Yes. Like last year, there will be a zone for electric and hybrid models, where we’re expecting around a dozen boats. This area is for smaller electric boats. However, over the past few years, there has been a steady increase in this sector, so you’ll see more and more shipyards presenting a hybrid or electric boat elsewhere at this year’s show.

Examples include four Eco models from Sunreef Yachts, comprising one 80ft powercat and three sailing models from 60-80ft, as well as a Silent 60, which is also fully powered by solar energy, while new Norwegian builder Ripple Boats will present a long-range electric boat.

What else can visitors look forward to at this year’s show?

Visitors will find lots of amazing boats, new innovative vessels and products with high design specs, as well as new players in the industry, so start-ups as well as major companies.

A couple of interesting boats to look out for include Bluegame’s hydrogen-powered chase boat being developed for America’s Cup entry American Magic, which is being presented at the show on land.

Meanwhile, Prestige is staging a world premiere of a new multihull motor yacht for a second successive year in the water at Vieux Port. Who would have expected these major brands and others to be so innovative?

Are you happy with the overall format introduced in 2019, to keep motor yachts in Vieux Port and move sailing boats to Port Canto by the brokerage and toys area?

Moving 120 sailing boats to Port Canto was discussed with our main clients, for both big and small boats, sailing and power. The product segmentation and logic for our visitors as well as the technical constraints sail boats required, such as deep water in the port, also influenced the final decision.

Four years on, we’re happy that this was a very good choice. Port Canto only contains a quarter of the overall total of boats exhibited at the show, but it presents specific segments and only big boats.

Port Canto hosts the popular sailing area, as well as the brokerage superyachts and toys

We’re happy with the overall format for both the Vieux Port and Port Canto because of the quality and suitability of the content presented on each side, with visitors going from one to the other except for those who know exactly what they want to see and not see.

If we need to change again in the future, it’s possible, but what’s important is to maintain the quality and logic in the product segmentation presented, so visitors will still be curious and satisfied to go to the other area to see the variety they expect.

Are you happy with the overall attendance, which has been quite consistent for the last few years?

I’m not bothered by number consistency. What’s important is to increase audience quality, which is what we do. Quantity is organic and constantly increasing, so it’s not so important. In addition, we don’t want to have a show that’s too busy, so 50,000-60,000 quality visitors is a good figure for me.

Sylvie Ernoult, Cannes Yachting Festival, Vieux Port, Port Canto, Canelli, Cormate, Hanse, Rand, Regal, Sea Ray, Nautic, White Shark, Sunreef, Silent 60, Prestige, Bluegame, America’s Cup, hydrogen, David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes, Bay of Cannes, ‘old town’

The main entrance to Vieux Port, the show’s largest venue and home to most motor yachts

What makes it Europe’s most important in-water boat show and for world premieres?

The Cannes Yachting Festival opens the nautical season. It’s an unmissable boat show. All the worldwide players in this industry who want to present their previews must attend. Our exhibitors have the guarantee of both meeting good-quality visitors – so buyers for their products – and journalists from all over the world who will promote their boat debuts worldwide.

The city of Cannes is clearly a highlight of the show as well, with its famous ‘Old Town’, five-star hotels, the Croisette and luxury boutiques. These represent many advantages. And not forgetting the Bay of Cannes, the Vieux Port and Port Canto, which provide an extraordinary setting for welcoming more than 700 boats.

The Italian Marine Industry Association (Confindustria Nautica) has announced that the 63rd Genoa International Boat Show from September 21-26 will offer 143 additional berths compared to last year due to the opening of new canals in the Waterfront di Levante redevelopment, designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano.

Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa, said: “For 63 years, the Genoa International Boat Show has stood by our city, helping it to become one of the true international yachting capitals. We’re building the future together, thanks to a great deal of synergy that exists between the public and private sectors that generates valuable results for the territory.

“This year, it will be held at the heart of the new Waterfront di Levante redevelopment project, the ambitious and imposing operation that will give back to all the citizens of Genoa the stunning sea view they deserve. A unique stage to welcome the very best of the yachting industry from all over the world, with a significant return of tourism for the city as well.”

Saverio Cecchi, President of the Italian Marine Industry Association, said: “This is an event that has always interpreted and represented the yachting industry, which continues to grow. Forecasts predict the sector’s turnover to exceed €7 billion and exports to generate record numbers.

“With the completion of the Waterfront redevelopment plan, of which we can already see the first important results this year, the boat show will become a truly global platform for business development across the sector and everything that revolves around it, a unique location in the world.”

“Thanks to the support of the Italian Trade Agency, the international invitation programme will bring to Genoa the most important operators from throughout the sector and specialised foreign press, who will be arriving from as many as 35 different countries, from all five continents.”

Mandarin Oriental Residences and Paramount Miami World Centre are among key luxury residences to check out in South Florida.

Over the past decade, South Florida’s city skylines have soared to incredible heights. From Miami to Boca Raton, high-rise living is now some of the most sought-after in the area. We look at homes that provide their residents with the best views possible, the penthouses.

Paramount Miami

Paramount Miami offers luxury residential units. Image: Paramount Miami.

When you think of high-rise living in the United States, three areas come to mind: New York City, Chicago, and South Florida, but the area getting the most attention these days out of the three is the latter. As tech and finance companies relocate to the low-tax and highly tropical South Florida, real estate developers are building some showstopping homes to attract buyers. With limited waterfront houses, many of these new homes can be found in the glitzy condominium buildings along Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. After all, why move to Miami if you’re not going to have a view?

Home prices in South Florida have continued to surge since the start of the pandemic. For example, the median sales price for a condominium in Miami is USD 390,000. Although relatively low compared to major cities such as New York City, the median price a year ago was USD 325,000. That’s a significant 20 percent increase.

The price per square foot in South Florida’s high-end residences reached an all-time high in March 2022. It peaked at a whopping USD 1,325 per square foot as the region’s average. Comparatively, the average price per square foot just one year earlier was at a steady USD 945.

The recent interest rate increases haven’t affected the market as they traditionally would. A lack of supply and strong demand is continuing to keep prices high. This is evident as the record-setting price points of the region are not inhibiting the market’s buyers. In Q1 of this year, 394 South Florida luxury properties sold each month, as compared to 426 during April 2022.

At the top of the condominium market is the penthouse. Miami has some of the most luxurious penthouses on the market — and with killer views to match.

In the Brickell neighbourhood, a penthouse at the Four Seasons broke the record for the most expensive property sold there, when it was purchased for USD 15.9 million earlier this year. As the city continues to build up, we look at which penthouses buyers should have their eye on.

WHAT’S ON THE MARKET?

Paramount Miami Worldcenter — Miami

Paramount Miami

Spacious duplex living design, Paramount Miami. Image: Paramount Miami.

The second largest master-planned urban project in the US is happening right in the centre of Miami. The Paramount Miami Worldcenter, developed by Royal Palms Companies, is strategically situated in Downtown Miami and is located near some of the city’s primary attractions, including the Perez Art Museum Miami, Frost Museum of Science, Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Centre, and the American Airlines Arena, which is home to the Miami Heat basketball team.

The USD 3 billion project spans over 30 acres and includes entertainment, museums, shopping, sports venues, parks, a 365,000 sq ft convention centre, and mass transit. In addition to this, it also has one of the most sought-after new residential buildings being built in the city.

The new condominium tower will feature more than 500 homes and include some incredible amenities outside of your usual swimming pool and gym. This includes a Tai Chi deck, boxing studio, and the country’s first outdoor soccer field in a high-rise residential building.

While the apartments here have been going quickly, there is a penthouse that is still available. The creme de la creme of penthouses in the building is 5411 — L1 duplex. The penthouse features a private lift that takes you up to the five bedrooms, den, study, and six and a half bathrooms covering an expansive 6,513 sq ft of indoor space across two floors. There is also a combined 573 sq ft of outdoor space with breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the surrounding city.

With a property like this, its lucky owner is more than equipped to entertain regularly. Fortunately, there is an open-plan layout so the kitchen and living room blend seamlessly.  There are also top-of-the-line kitchen appliances from Miele, which the owner’s personal chef will surely be grateful for. Guests who choose to spend the night will enjoy the large bedrooms with spectacular views, as well as bathrooms that feature rain showers and spa tubs.

“Demand and competition continue to run high in Miami’s ultra-luxury market, especially as buyers shift their attention to new condo developments that offer sophisticated at-home lifestyles and heightened safety standards. PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter provides residents with more amenities than any other building, with over 40 at their fingertips, including essentials like the food market an entire soccer field and a resort-style pool deck. Beyond the amenity package, we’re very proud of the individual residences. People spend more time in their homes than anywhere else, which is why we thoughtfully designed the layouts to support daily needs and efficiency. The PARAMOUNT penthouses offer a luxury lifestyle that takes this functionality to an entirely new level, with double-height ceilings, expansive outdoor living rooms and grand entertainment spaces.” – Daniel Kodsi, CEO of Royal Palm Companies

CRN is working on M/Y 145, a 70m fully custom, steel and aluminium superyacht called Project Thunderball. Dutch studio Vripack developed the external lines and the naval architecture, while Italy’s Nauta Design handled the interior design and outdoor furniture.

Marnix J. Hoekstra, Vripack’s Co-Creative Director, said: “Equally cutting-edge naval architecture supports the outside aesthetic, and places this design atop our sizable portfolio of world-travelling ships, which have sailed the ocean since 1961. At every design meeting, our comprehensive approach gave the owner insight into the layouts, functions and performances, enabling quick, thoughtful and deliberate decision-making.”

The superyacht will cruise in the Mediterranean and between Florida and the Bahamas, and be used as a base for diving, sailing and underwater fishing. The owner is a passionate sailor, so a smaller sailing boat will also be delivered to accompany the mother yacht.

Project Thunderball features a traditional elongated bow, a low profile and svelte lines, with curved bilges and a smooth surface. The five-deck yacht has a beam of 11m, a volume of 1,100GT and accommodation for up to 12 guests and 15 crew.

CRN M/Y 145 continues the shipyard’s commitment to by implementing a peak shaving system to increase energy efficiency and slash fuel consumption.

Y.Co completed the sale of Project Thunderball in August 2022 and is acting as the owner’s representative and project management team, supporting the owner through the construction stage to the technical checks, inspection and acceptance as well as with the project management, the on-site supervision and coordinating the external contractors.

CRN’s current projects also include the 72m CRN M/Y 139, the 67m CRN M/Y 143 and the 85m CRN M/Y 144. Ferretti Group’s almost 80,000-sqm Superyacht Yard in Ancona is also building the first all-aluminium Custom Line Navetta 50, hull four of the all-aluminium Pershing 140 and the first all-aluminium Riva 54Metri.

The west side of the yard is dedicated to the production of Custom Line fibreglass range, with 27 yachts now under construction in the sheds and at the quays for finishing, testing and delivery to their owners and project teams.

The Italian superyacht builder has created the Class 44M, designed inside and out by Giorgio Maria Cassetta

Benetti has begun building the Class 44M, which succeeds the Diamond 44M and is based on the same hull. Like the Diamond 44M, whose first hull launched in 2020, the four-deck Class 44M features exterior styling by Giorgio Maria Cassetta, who also designed the interior of the new fibreglass model.

“We worked on an infinite number of details and, as a result, this boat’s interiors are new compared to what we’re used to seeing on a yacht this size,” Cassetta said. “All these details convey an appealing sense of elegance but also reveal the wonder of human skill and craftsmanship: Benetti Class 44M is an incredibly complex, sophisticated place, but one that has a truly amazing ability to welcome people.”

Benetti, Class 44M, Giorgio Maria Cassetta, Diamond 44M

Designed for long, safe cruises around the world, lasting weeks or months, the Class 44M features generous stowage capacity and extensive use of sustainable materials such as FSC-certified wood, while a focus on ‘transparency’ is achieved by glazed surfaces that let light flood into all the decks.

The beach club is a versatile space, while the generously sized garage is located on the port side. On the main deck, the spacious lounge offers direct views of the water due to low-profile bulwarks. The galley and day head are midships, while forward is the full-beam master cabin, which includes an office space, generous wardrobe and full-beam bathroom.

Benetti, Class 44M, Giorgio Maria Cassetta, Diamond 44M

The upper deck includes a large interior living space that extends outdoors towards the stern and can accommodate a dining table for 10, while there’s also the helm station and captain’s cabin forward. The sun deck provides over 102sqm of space for dining, sunbathing or socialising at the bar, or can be configured according to the owner’s preferences.

The lower deck has four double guest cabins and the crew quarters. Specially studied crew flow paths run the entire length of all four decks.

Benetti, Class 44M, Giorgio Maria Cassetta, Diamond 44M

To reduce vibrations and improve soundproofing, floating floors and bulkheads are used throughout, along with flexible transmission couplings. The air-conditioning and purification system ensures high-efficiency air circulation with six changes per hour. Two 1,400hp MAN engines deliver a top speed of 15 knots and a range of 4,100nm at 11 knots.

Sebastiano Fanizza, CCO of Benetti, said: “We welcome a new yacht into the Class family. This model increases the choice we offer our owners, who expect elegant and innovative new yachts from Benetti. The new Benetti Class 44M flagship is a gem of a yacht from every perspective, vaunting a spacious layout and satisfying every owner’s desire for absolute comfort and wellbeing, which are increasingly at the core of every new yacht project.”

Sunseeker International will display its 100 Yacht at the 54th Southampton International Boat Show (September 15-24), where the superyacht will be the largest boat on display in Europe’s largest, purpose-built temporary marina.

Traditionally one of the biggest exhibitors at Mayflower Park, the Poole shipyard now expects to have 10 yachts at the UK’s biggest boat show. The 100 Yacht joins a provisional line-up announced in late July, while the Predator 75 has replaced the 75 Sport Yacht.

The other seven yachts comprise the Manhattan 55, Predator 65, 65 Sport Yacht, Manhattan 68, 76 Yacht, 88 Yacht and 90 Ocean.

Andrea Frabetti, CEO of Sunseeker International, said the 100 Yacht (click for Review) will be the largest vessel Sunseeker has exhibited at the Southampton show for over two decades. “We’re thrilled to share the revolutionary 100 Yacht with visitors to the Southampton International Boat Show and to give them a taste of the true luxury that Sunseeker continues to provide,” Frabetti said.

“As a proud British boat builder, we couldn’t imagine a better place to exhibit the 100 Yacht. It’s an honour to be exhibiting the largest yacht at the show and we’re excited to showcase our continued commitment to an uncompromising approach to design and engineering excellence.

The world premiere of the 100 Yacht was held at last year’s edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival, which this year will host a dark Midnight Grey version of the model. Powered by twin MTU 12V 2000 M96X or MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines, the 100 Yacht reaches up to 30 knots and accommodates up to 12 guests and five crew.
