Camper & Nicholsons International has been receiving strong enquiries for the first 42.5m Explorer Ice Class, which has been designed by Karatas Yacht Design and will be built in Turkey by Arkin Pruva for a 2022 delivery.

The Explorer Ice Class is safe, comfortable and built for long journeys,” said Sebastien Bernard, a Thailand-based Sales Broker for Camper & Nicholsons. “Her reinforced steel hull is built to sail in icy regions and her 4,000nm range allows her owner to reach any destination safely and comfortably.”

Described by the brokerage as ‘the expedition vessel of the 21st century’, the Explorer Ice Class is a brand-new design and will have a Rina Ice Class D steel hull with aluminium superstructure. The yacht has at-anchor stabilisers, a top speed of 14 knots and a trans-oceanic range of 4,000nm at nine knots.

The rugged 139ft motor yacht will have a steel hull built under Rina Ice Class D

Arkin Pruva, which has been building superyachts up to 55m since 2006, is based in the Antalya Free Zone, which enables it to build and export yachts at a reduced price due to VAT and tax exemptions.

Karatas has created an eye-catching exterior and great views through huge glass panels on the side of the main and upper decks. Lifestyle amenities include a gym, beach club and outdoor Jacuzzi, with options such as an aft-deck pool.

A swimming pool is among options for the aft area of the main deck

The four-deck yacht offers 650sqm (7,000sqft) of guest living space and accommodation for 12 guests in six suites, two of which are configured as master staterooms – on the upper deck and forward on the main deck. The lower deck includes two VIP suites and two twin cabins, while forward is crew accommodation for nine.

On the main deck, the 90sqm aft cockpit can either be designed as a space to carry tenders and toys, a large exterior lounge or an infinity-edged swimming pool.

Forward view of the saloon, showing the huge windows on the main deck

The interior has been conceived to offer a bright, zen-like ambience, although styling can be customised. The main saloon is accessed via full-height glass doors and features a bar counter, open-plan lounge and formal dining area. The forward master stateroom features a private saloon and dining area, dressing room and full ensuite bathroom with Jacuzzi tub.

The upper deck features the second master stateroom, wheelhouse and an aft deck that can be used by guests or exclusively by the owner. The teak side decks lead towards the bow, which has a forward-facing bench seat and table ahead of the bridge.

The upper deck is home to one of two master suites

The 102sqm flybridge has space for freestanding loungers to aft, an al fresco dining area and bar midships and a Jacuzzi forward.

The lower-deck beach club creates further outdoor space and provides easy access to and from the water, while inside is a lounge and gym. There’s also a garage at the stern for the tenders plus the shore and water-based exploration equipment.

Benetti lays keel for 62m custom build

Construction work starts on the 62m custom yacht FB283 with the laying of the keel and placing of the coin.

Sebastiano Fanizza, Benetti’s CCO, speaks at FB283’s coin ceremony

Benetti has celebrated the laying of the keel of the 62m FB283 with a traditional ‘coin ceremony’ in Livorno. The five-deck custom yacht has a steel displacement hull and aluminium superstructure, with exteriors and interiors by Giorgio M. Cassetta, and hull lines by Van Oossanen.

Dating back to ancient Roman times, the ‘coin ceremony’ tradition features the placing of a coin under the keel to bring good luck to the vessel and to its crew and passengers.

The coin is placed under the keel of the 62m, five-deck FB283

Sebastiano Fanizza, Benetti’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “To build FB283, Benetti is making use of its great experience in the realisation of custom yachts, proving to be able to make the most of its know-how, winning production and engineering processes. The owner appreciated this aspect along with Benetti’s innovation capabilities and the yard’s ability to give life to his requests.”

The owner’s requirements for the custom yacht are speed, silent running, autonomy and fun for the family. With a tapering stern and long bow, FB283 is expected to have a cruising speed of around 20 knots and significant autonomy. The yacht also features lots of storage space for diving equipment, a tender and water toys.

The five-deck FB283 has a fast displacement hull by Van Oossanen

Cassetta said: “Right from the outset, we established a transparent and constructive relationship with the owner, which made it possible to define this exciting project in a wealth of detail. We’re very grateful for being given the freedom to envisage a project that will be a milestone for our firm.”

Nicola Nicolai Yacht Consulting & Project Management acted as pre-purchase advisor and will manage the build process as owner’s representative and project manager.

The Ferretti Group brand reveals collectible Christmas present ideas.

The mahogany chest is ideal for storing items that need sanitisation such as shoes and towels

The Riva Brand Experience has unveiled an eclectic selection of accessories and design items suitable as Christmas gifts. Signature Riva materials such as steel and mahogany and the colour aquamarine have been used in a multi-purpose chest, backgammon sets, pens, berets and the Riva In the Movie book.

The inside is treated with an ESI antimicrobial system to eliminate viruses, bacteria and fungi

Made of grooved mahogany, the large chest (€2,200) is suitable for items that need rapid sanitisation – such as shoes, magazines, towels – and to be stored in a clean environment, whether used on a boat, by a swimming pool or at home. The chest’s insides are treated with an ESI antimicrobial system, which rapidly eliminates viruses, bacteria and fungi.

Backgammon sets are available in blue leather (pictured) and aquamarine mambo fabric

The backgammon sets are available in aquamarine mambo fabric (€2,800) and blue leather (€5,000), with Riva describing it as “not just a game but a genuine work of art”. Both sets feature mahogany and maple construction with a steel Riva logo either inlaid or, in the more luxurious leather model, with a transparent effect. The white and aquamarine dice and pieces have mahogany inlays.

The Roman bronze roller ball is among three limited-edition Tibaldi for Riva pen models

The Tibaldi for Riva pens include a cream-colour roller pen (€1,500), a Roman bronze roller pen (€1,350) and a Roman bronze fountain pen, with just five pieces of each model available. The paints are the same as those used on the yachts, an assurance of strength and durability. The clips are shaped like Riva cleats, featuring a sophisticated spring mechanism to attach to a pocket.

The cream roller ball is also among the Tibaldi for Riva options

In the roller pens, the barrels are made of hand-inlaid wood with a pattern recalling Riva boat decks. The Tibaldi for Riva nib, made of 18-carat solid gold, reprises the original ‘1a Qualità’ wording on Tibaldi nibs at the beginning of the last century. All the Tibaldi for Riva pens come in an elegant metal container lacquered in a colour matching that of the pen and closed by a wooden cap.

Made by Il Borgo Cashmere, the beret is based on the classic navy-blue sailor’s beanie

The cashmere cap (€220) is made by Il Borgo Cashmere, one of Italy’s top craft manufacturers in the sector. Based on the classic navy-blue sailor’s beanie, the beret is soft and water-repellent, ideal for the cold season but light enough to be worn in spring. The cap is also available in aquamarine and the chromed metal Riva logo is on both versions.

The 300-page Riva in the Movie book captures the brand’s history in film

The new 300-page Riva in the Movie book (€120) features rare photos, detailed reviews and the original posters of the 39 films in which Riva boats have played an important role alongside Italian and international film stars. The book includes 300 photos and mentions 77 actresses and 110 actors, interweaving stories of cinema and yachting.

British motor yacht builder increases services on its F//Line configurator website by offering bespoke video of each user’s customised design.

Exterior colours and materials can be selected and visualised

Following Fairline Yachts’ launch of its popular F//Line configurator site, the British builder has unveiled the platform’s second phase that enables users to receive a personalised video of their customised boat in action.

Feedback on the configurator website launched in August, www.f-line.com, has already driven significant customer enquiries and sales orders to the motor yacht brand.

Technology and engine options can all be specified, with transparent pricing

Fairline has now enhanced the offering by developing the technology to send users a personalised summary of their fully configured boat, with a bespoke computer-generated video enabling them to watch their F//Line 33 on the water.

Starting with an overview of their new boat anchored at sea, the video features the materials, colours and optional extras users select, with detailed views of each bespoke element. Users can also share their design on their own social media pages.

Interior colours, materials and design options can be viewed online

Miles Moorhouse, Head of Marketing at Fairline Yachts, spearheaded the design and vision for the site, which was inspired by the leading car configurator websites.

“It is imperative that our digital portfolio meets the needs and demands of the modern consumer and configuring a boat online is the next step,” Moorhouse said.

F-Line.com now offers a bespoke video of each user’s customised F//Line 33 design

“When we said we wanted to give our customers full control to design their perfect F//Line 33, we meant it. Our platform enables the user to fully visualise their new boat and helps customers make informed decisions about their new F//Line, all from their handheld or desktop device.”

The site was launched in response to the challenges presented by the global Covid-19 pandemic. It gives customers full control to specify and visualise all available options on the boat with full transparency on pricing.

The second Blue List Expedition is filling up fast, with at least 80 guests and over a dozen yachts confirmed three weeks ahead of the fun-filled event, which will be held in the Phi Phi Islands east of Phuket from December 18-20.

The first Blue List Expedition was held in Koh Lanta in April 2017 and was a forerunner to the first Phuket RendezVous at Royal Phuket Marina in January 2018.

The 90ft Maha Bhetra is also among yachts participating in the second Blue List Expedition

Based at the Zeavola Resort on Laem Tong Beach, this year’s event is organised by JAND Events and supported by Yacht Sourcing, while partners include RenewyouAsia, a new company specialising in UC-MSCs therapy and regenerative and anti-ageing products and packages.

Nicolas Monges, Partner and Managing Director of Yacht Sourcing Thailand, said: “The first Blue List Expedition was a beautiful event, so we’re delighted to see so many great friends and long-time partners joining us this year after a difficult 2020. Our aim was 75 attendees, with a maximum capacity of 100, so we’ve already hit our target and are now planning for the final sign-ups.

The Princess 75 Sanook is among 14 yachts confirmed three weeks ahead of the event

“We already have at least 14 yachts confirmed, an amazing itinerary and an incredible host resort at Zeavola. We have an exciting programme including parties on shore and on the yachts, a beach barbecue, gala dinner, excursions, water activities and much more. We’ve designed the event to be as much fun as possible, so we can all finish the year on a high note.”

CL Yachts pushes envelope with CLX96

CL Yachts pushes envelope with CLX96

The Hong Kong-headquartered builder is scheduled to launch the Jozeph Forakis-designed Sea Activity Vessel (SAV) in the third quarter of 2021.

  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •

The Jozeph Forakis exterior has a ‘double reverse-angle’ superstructure and a vertical bow

CL Yachts is aiming to “push the envelope of boatbuilding” with its upcoming CLX96, which will be the builder’s new flagship when the 27-knot planing yacht is launched ahead of its scheduled world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October 2021.

Jozeph Forakis has been working on the design of the 96ft motor yacht since 2017 when the Milan-based designer was also hired to design the logo, branding guidelines and website for CL Yachts, the new luxury yacht brand by Cheoy Lee.

Earl Alfaro handled naval architecture, with Albert Horsmon responsible for structural engineering

Hans Lo, Deputy Director of CL Yachts, said: “We chose Jozeph because he’s an industrial designer, so he looks at how and why a yacht will be used, then designs the whole boat holistically. We’re trying to push the envelope of boat building and give the market a boat that truly does it all. Much like an SUV, CLX96 is a yacht that is ready for any adventure.”

While Forakis is responsible for the concept and exterior and interior design, Americans Earl Alfaro and Albert Horsmon handled naval architecture and structural engineering respectively.

The sky deck has an outdoor grill, refrigerator and ice-maker, plus an alfresco dining area

CL Yachts has called the CLX96 the first luxury performance SAV (Sea Activity Vessel), with a ‘workboat chic’ profile defined by trawler-style, reverse-angle windscreens, a nod to the commercial heritage of parent company Cheoy Lee. On the main deck, the reverse-angle windscreen has even been mirrored by the aft superstructure in a rarely seen design feature.

Forakis said: “Three years ago, CL Yachts reached beyond the industry and asked me to rethink yacht design. I approached the project with a focus on smart design and my outsider’s imagination and dreams. The result is a vessel that is a departure from convention.

The skylounge has opening windows and a twin-seat pilothouse

“Visually, CLX96 is very distinctive with her bold ‘double reverse-angle’ profile and iconic ‘wing-like’ flybridge bulwark. These elements were born from a holistic, functional reconsideration of the way to live on a yacht and not just for the sake of looking different.”

Other distinctive features include a vertical bow and a teardrop-shaped hull, with the forward part of the boat being wider than the aft. Eye-catching exterior spaces include the foredecks on both the main and upper decks, known as Terrazza Portoghese and Piazza del Sole respectively.

Forward of the pilothouse, the Terrazza Portoghese has fitted bench seats and space for sunbeds

The huge flybridge reaches back almost as far as the main deck and features a big outdoor sky deck that connects to the interior sky lounge featuring the yacht’s sole pilothouse with twin helm chairs, lounge seating and opening windows on each side. Forward of this is the Terrazza Portoghese, a large outdoor area that can be dressed with loose furniture like sunbeds.

Forakis said: “CLX96 was created to push the boundaries of innovation and yachting experiences, with flowing indoor and outdoor spaces.”

The flexible Piazza del Sole on the foredeck is a signature exterior space

The circular-themed Piazza del Sole on the main deck is arguably the yacht’s signature outdoor space. Two large sunpads on each side can transform into sofas due to pop-up backrests, linking with the semi-circular, forward-facing sofa to create a circular ‘aperitif lounge’.

The tables can be raised or lowered and covered with sunpads to large lounging areas, with adjustable, slanting backrests by the bulwarks.

The Z-Lift swim platform extends the length of the boat to 105ft

At the other end of the boat, a huge swim platform can carry a tender or jetski, which can be deployed by a motorised Z-Lift swim platform, which further extends the living area so the boat stretches to 105ft in length. Storage for furniture and toys is inside the transom, through doors on either side of the full-height door to the engine room.

The yacht’s interior also has several innovative features including a main deck with two lounges and clear 360-degree views including through to the forward windows. The interior starts with the main living area, which leads to a long dining table that can benefit from clear views and a sea breeze through bi-fold doors to starboard.

The main-deck interior has views all the way forward, to a second lounge

There’s an open galley with bar to port, while starboard is an enormous fridge, storage and the interior stairs to the flybridge. Further forward – in the absence of a main-deck helm – is a slightly raised lounge, ideal for cosy, intimate gatherings, while to starboard are stairs to the lower-deck.

CL Yachts focuses a lot on a boat as a vessel for exploration and some of the furniture and décor in the four lower-deck guest cabins “are designed to remind you of being on a journey, much like a spacecraft,” as Lo says.

The open galley with bar is a likely focal point of on-board living

Due to the teardrop shape of the hull, the master is forward and benefits from being in the widest part of the boat, over 24ft (7.3m). It has a large forward-facing bed under a big skylight, a huge TV, expansive windows and a full-width dressing room and bathroom in the bow, with glass doors and windows that can be tinted.

A central hallway leads to the two guest cabins, which have aft-facing single beds that can slide together to become a double.

Further aft down the hallway, the full-beam VIP stateroom has a forward-facing double and a portside bathroom with a huge window and slatted doors. There’s even a clever virtual skylight, using technology that senses the colour and brightness of the sky.

The master stateroom is forward, at the widest part of the yacht

Much of the furniture is moulded and the desk-cum-sofas under the hull windows show Forakis’ flowing, industrial design at its best. Furthermore, there’s even a camera at the bow that can be relayed to the TVs – as on aeroplanes – so owners and guests can always tune in to see where they’re going and what lies ahead.

“CLX 96 is focused on the value of exploration and the journey of life,” Lo says. “We want owners and guests to feel like they’re in a vessel, they’re going on a journey. We’re trying to bring back the romance of being at sea, of exploration. After all, this is more about the experience the vessel provides you, not just about the vessel itself.”

The full-width VIP stateroom is midships and has an elegant ensuite to port

Performance and seaworthiness are always a priority for CL Yachts, which uses carbon-fibre and fibreglass for strength and to reduce weight, along with weight-optimised stonework and furniture inside. Stone surfaces are thinned and then backed by rigid composite materials, while Tricel honeycomb is used in furniture to reduce weight by 20 per cent compared to solid wood or plywood.

The crew quarters are accessed by stairs leading down from the cockpit, underneath the exterior flybridge stairs. Situated aft of the VIP stateroom, the crew area includes two cabins and has access to the engine room, which includes the twin CAT C32 1,900hp engines that can power the boat to 27 knots and a cruising speed of 22 knots at 2,000rpm, impressive figures for an almost 97ft yacht.

The CLX96 is scheduled to launch in June 2021 ahead of its Fort Lauderdale show debut

CL Yachts, which has its headquarters in Hong Kong, plans to launch the first unit in its Guangdong shipyard by June 2021.

Martin Lo, Director of CL Yachts and Hans’ uncle, concludes: “Before we began designing CLX96, we looked at the yachting experience with fresh eyes from the inside out, analysing everything from the habits of modern explorers at sea to our own heritage as a company.

“This allowed us to approach the design in a truly holistic way – deconstructing the traditional motor yacht as we know it and putting it back together again. The result is the true representation of CL Yachts both today and in the future.”

However, on the four-deck SD118, the asymmetry is on the upper deck, where designer Bernardo Zuccon has included a side deck on the port side – including an opening terrace – while the starboard side is like that of a wide-body hull.

Other novel features on the 35.75m model with a 7.9m beam include the bow, where the outdoor areas on the upper and main decks are connected by a central stairway, which covers private access from the owner’s suite.

The submersible swim platform and drop-down sides provide a 19sqm beach club, which can be set up for diving and other watersports

The new model also has a revised stern zone, which can be transformed into a 19sqm swim platform due to large lateral hatches that open and can be set up for diving and sunbathing.

The model scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2021 will feature an interior by Bernardo and Martina Zuccon, while other interior designs include a version by Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola.

The upper deck of the SD118 only features one side deck, on starboard side

Engine options include twin MTU 10V2000M86 (1,380hp) or CAT ACERT C32 (1,622hp), which provide top speeds of 18 and 19 knots respectively.

Sanlorenzo has shipyards in La Spezia, Ameglia, Viareggio and Massa, generating €455.9 million (about US$540 million) in consolidated net revenues in 2019. The company is represented in Asia by SimpsonMarine.

French builder will premiere the Gran Turismo 41 early next year.

The Beneteau Gran Turismo 41 will succeed the GT40

Beneteau has scheduled an early 2021 debut for its new Gran Turismo 41, which will sit at the heart of an express cruiser line that ranges from the 32 to the 50 (9-15m). The 41ft motorboat will succeed the Gran Turismo 40.

Mathilde Tertrain, Product Manager at Beneteau, said: “The Gran Turismo 40 made a considerable impression on our customers and our network of dealers. Everyone loves her features, and she is still very popular. We were keen to preserve this spirit with the Gran Turismo 41, which follows in her wake.

An aft-facing sunpad looks over the swim platform

“We set ourselves the goal of improving and developing the new addition to our line without changing her too much. We hope that she lives up to passengers’ expectations so they can enjoy all the pleasures of the sea for longer.”

Changes include a new aft sunbathing area placed at seat height for easier access. The forward sunpad has also evolved and now offers optional reclining backs and a retractable canopy, as well as courtesy lights.

The outdoor galley is to port, with the main sofa and table to starboard

Forward of the aft-facing sunpad, the main living area includes a C-shaped sofa and an adjustable dining table to starboard and a portside galley with cooker, sink and fridge.

This area and the helm are covered by a hardtop with sliding sunroof. The new model features slimmer uprights than its predecessor for more natural light in the interior, where a centred driving station sits behind an upright-free windshield.

The lower deck features a galley and saloon between the cabins

“In developing the Gran Turismo 41, we chose to make her a social boat open to the sea and the sun,” Tertrain said. “Meanwhile, the elegant peaceful atmosphere of her interior space is a true delight, conducive to rest in real comfort.”

The lower deck is finished in grey walnut and features a L-shaped sofa to port, an indoor galley and communal bathroom to starboard, a master double in the bow and a twin cabin midships, both rooms benefiting from windows and portholes.

The master cabin in the bow has an aft-facing bed and long windows

The sports cruiser features Beneteau’s Air Step® hull and either twin 300hp or 380hp Volvo stern-drive engines, offering top speeds of 33 and 38 knots, and cruising speeds of 23 and 27 knots respectively.

Automatic Zipwake trim is an option and helps make the boat more stable as loads change, while the joystick and bow thruster provide fingertip control formanoeuvring.
