Mike Simpson on his new Oceanis 46.1

Mike Simpson on his new Oceanis 46.1

Simpson, founder and Managing Director of Simpson Marine, spoke about his new Oceanis 46.1 at the Boating Rendez-Vous display of Beneteau and Lagoon yachts in Hong Kong.

Mike Simpson, proud owner of a new Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 sailing yacht

Stepping aboard an immaculate Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 via its lowered swimming platform with owner Mike Simpson in Hong Kong, it’s clear to see he is delighted with his new sailing yacht. Founder of Simpson Marine, Asia’s biggest yacht dealer, he is someone who has spent more than 35 years in the company of top-tier luxury yachts, so knows quality when he sees it.

“The details in its design are so functional,” Simpson says, pointing out the colour-coded, clearly-labelled sailing lines neatly stowed in small aft cabinets. There’s no hazard present from mast or boom or their ropes as we enjoy a moment on deck around the twin helm stations.

Below deck, there’s a stylish living area with spacious galley, while Simpson points out two double cabins aft and the bright owner’s suite with sea-level windows and skylight – all very impressive. He says there has been a great deal of interest in this 2018 model.

The Oceanis 46.1 at the Boating Rendez-Vous display of Beneteau and Lagoon models

“It’s easy to sail with a [Hong Kong Sailing Federation Pleasure Vessel Operators] Grade Two licence and it’s very sophisticated, with a great smart-control panel for everything on the boat.”

Simpson Marine has sold several Oceanis 46.1 models in Asia and our inspection of the company founder’s latest pride and joy was at the recent Boating Rendez-Vous, held a few weeks after the first of this year’s series was held in Sydney.

In Hong Kong, the models comprised Oceanis 35.1 and 46.1 sailing yachts and Antares 7 and 8 motorboats from Beneteau, and Lagoon 42, 46 and 50 sailing catamarans. The Lagoon 46, which was displayed by the main clubhouse, is the successor to the best-selling 450 and was premiered in 2019.

Simpson Marine staff and guests aboard the Oceanis 46.1 in Middle Island

Ewa Stachurska, Simpson Marine’s Group Marketing Manager and Head of Strategic Partnerships, said: “The picturesque setting of Middle Island, at Aberdeen Boat Club, was ideal to showcase new and popular Beneteau sailing yachts and outboard motorboats, and Lagoon catamarans.”

Hosting clients and prospects, Stachurska added that visitors enjoyed the selection of easy-to-sail, family-friendly, comfortable and technically impressive yachts.

“This has been a very good year for these brands in Hong Kong and in parts of Asia, so we are happy to see many new models cruising in Asia,” she said.

Simpson Marine also revealed that new models from the brands due to arrive in early 2021 include the Beneteau Flyer 10 and Antares 11 Fly outboards and Swift Trawler 47, and Lagoon Sixty7 powercat.

The Boating Rendez-Vous was the second edition in Asia-Pacific in two months and followed October’s 11-yacht event in Sydney that featured models from Beneteau, Lagoon and Excess, the new catamaran brand making its regional debut.

Vianney Guézénec, Beneteau Group’s Managing Director for Asia-Pacific, was delighted to see another successful edition of the Boating Rendez-Vous in Hong Kong, where activities included Lagoon manoeuvring demonstrations by Loik Morgant, Groupe Beneteau’s Asia Pacific Customer Service Manager.

The Boating Rendez-Vous fleet enjoy a picture-perfect sunset

“These are exactly the type of smaller-scale events we love, especially at this time,” Guézénec said. “I’m not sure we want to be at a big boat show, even if a few are taking place. We are happy to have these appointment-only VIP experiences with our clients or potential clients.

“This is the way we feel we need to work now. Also, right now and for most of this year, Hong Kong has been the confirmed ‘hotspot’ for active boating in Asia.”

French sailing yacht builder appoints new dealer in key Southeast Asian markets, sells first Dufour 530 in Asia and develops first authorised service centre in Hong Kong.

Romain Motteau (left) of Dufour and Boum Senous (right) of Yacht Sourcing

Dufour has appointed Yacht Sourcing as its dealer for Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore, as the French sailing yacht builder continues its steady growth in Asia.

Romain Motteau, Managing Director, CEO and President of Dufour, said: “Yacht Sourcing have established themselves as market leaders across Southeast Asia. Their work ethic added to their global business relationships and networks made them the obvious choice. We are delighted to be entering what we know will be a longstanding, mutually beneficial relationship.”

Founded in Indonesia by Xavier Fabre and Boum Senous, Yacht Sourcing expanded to Thailand in 2019 when it opened an office in Phuket. Both Fabre and Senous are experienced sailors and were keen to add one of the world’s leading sailing yacht builders to the company’s portfolio.

Dufour premiered the 530 at Boot Dusseldorf in January 2020

“We are delighted to be entering into a new chapter with such a revered and legendary brand,” said Fabre, the company’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “The history and product have always set Dufour at the pinnacle of their profession and we look forward to what we believe will become a formidable relationship in the Asian luxury sector.”

Yacht Sourcing also represents motor yacht builders Ferretti Yachts, Riva and Pershing, catamaran builder Fountaine Pajot, and RIB manufacturers Nuova Jolly and 3D in selected markets. The company has charter and management divisions, and its own shipyard in Sulawesi where it builds large wooden yachts including the iconic Prana and new Maj Oceanic.

Kevin Corfa, Dufour’s Head of Asia, said the appointment of Yacht Sourcing strengthened the brand’s visibility in Southeast Asia, where Pattaya-based Inspire Marine is a long-time dealer.

The first Dufour 530 sold to Asia will be delivered to Taiwan in early 2021

“We believe the Yacht Sourcing team and their strong presence in Southeast Asia will greatly facilitate Dufour’s penetration into these markets and trigger some interesting sales opportunities in the near future,” he said.

Corfa also revealed the first sale in Asia of the new Dufour 530, a model that made its indoor debut at Boot Dusseldorf in January 2020. The 530 ‘performance’ version will be delivered to Taiwan in early 2021, while Corfa said there was also interest in other new models including the 470 and upcoming flagship 61.

“Dufour is attracting more and more discerning sailors and crews looking for fast, comfortable cruising sailing boats. Japan remains the yard’s biggest market in Asia, while China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore now have new Dufour owners and it seems like it’s only the beginning,” Corfa said.

A Dufour 390 from a collection ranging from the 310 to the new 61

“A Dufour 530 is among several new orders in Asia in the last few months. The 470, 530 and 61 are rejuvenating the range and bringing the brand to a new level. Asia is an important step in the brand’s development and the company is working hard to cater to owners here.”

Dufour is also working with a key partner to develop its first authorised service centre in Hong Kong for commissioning, after-sales service and training. The builder is also organising the Dufour Nautic Days from December 4-6, a series of events worldwide attended by dealers, clients and key prospects.

Built at Damen Yachting in the Netherlands, the 77m La Datcha is beginning a global charter journey that will include some of the world’s “most remote and beautiful places”.

La Datcha is embarking on a global charter expedition through Edmiston

The 77m SeaXplorer La Datcha has left the Damen Yachting yard in the Netherlands to embark on a global charter itinerary.

Part of the La Datcha Tinkoff Collection, the luxury expedition yacht is offering charter opportunities from heliskiing in Kamchatka to dive adventures off Papua New Guinea. The first purpose-built expedition yacht with a fixed itinerary and commercial goal, the 2,560GT build has an Ice Class, IMO Polar Code-compliant hull.

The owner’s vision for La Datcha is for charter guests to “set out on the journey of a lifetime to places others can’t reach – exclusive adventures to share with friends and family in total comfort, style and safety”.

The 77m SeaXplorer has an aft helipad and accommodation for 12 guests and 25 crew

The 252-footer offers accommodation for 12 guests, 24 crew and a captain, and will be available for charter through Edmiston.

Rose Damen, Managing Director of Damen Yachting, said: “The interest in La Datcha has been phenomenal. She’s a real head-turner with a unique proposition and is not afraid to stand out from the crowd.

“In a year that has challenged us all with Covid, new working measures and travel restrictions, it is incredible to see La Datcha head off on the adventures she was built to achieve. That is down to the dedication of everyone involved in this project from our own teams at our yards, to our co-makers and the owner’s teams. We are looking forward to following her adventures as she heads off to explore the world’s far-reaching destinations.”

The build of La Datcha was managed by Fraser and overseen by owner’s representative Stefano Feltrin, CEO of La Datcha Tinkoff Collection.

The 2,560GT build has an Ice Class and IMO Polar Code-compliant hull

“The owner’s team is thrilled to take delivery of La Datcha and start her journey, which commenced on the drawing board years ago and will continue in some of the most remote and beautiful places on earth,” Feltrin said.

“The great result represented by the La Datcha yacht has been achieved thanks to the relentless efforts of many talented people that joined forces to make this happen. We felt at home in the Netherlands and at Damen Yachting’s shipyard, and we are very proud and excited to sail on such a magnificent yacht.”

La Datcha’s range and autonomy – up to 40 days – provide the capability to cruise to remote areas without major infrastructure or large populations, where very few yachts have travelled but which present rugged environments offering adventure and spectacular wildlife.

Guests will also be treated to the comfort of custom superyacht interiors by designer Vasiliy Sphrits, responsible for the interiors of Tinkoff Collection properties.

Absolute 60 Fly offers beach club

Following the success of the interior beach club on Absolute’s new Navetta 64, the Italian builder is offering the option on its new 60 Fly, scheduled to launch in mid-2021.

The 60 Fly is one of two Absolute models set to launch in 2021, along with the 48 Coupe

The Absolute shipyard in Piacenza is developing a ‘Generation 2022’ 60 Fly scheduled to launch by June 2021 and premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. A new addition to the Italian builder’s Flybridge series, which features models ranging from the 47 to the 72, the 60 Fly offers several configurations on both the indoor and outdoor layouts.

One of the most exciting possibilities is the beach club in the stern, an option seen on the new Navetta 64 and chosen by all buyers of that model so far, contributing to over a year’s worth of orders. On the 60 Fly, the cockpit is sheltered by a large flybridge overhang and features an ‘aft-deck terrace’ as its standard configuration, with modular furniture that can be arranged in different ways.

The Absolute 60 Fly with Beach Club option

The area below the cockpit, accessible from the swim platform, can then either be used as a storage compartment or as a double crew cabin with ensuite head and direct access to the engine room.

Alternatively, the cockpit can incorporate a sofa with attached sunpad that sits on top of a walk-in ‘beach club’, which can be furnished with deck chairs, awnings and other accessories due to the increase in interior volume.

The Absolute 60 Fly with Aft Deck Terrace option

Multiple configurations are also offered on the main deck depending upon the owner’s desire for more social space or storage on board.

“The 60 Fly represents the characteristics of our high engineering, passion and future vision,” the shipyard stated. “Versatile and flexible in its design, the 60 Fly provides owners choices for how to enjoy the space on board, the social areas, the galley and storage capabilities. These thoughtful solutions are inspired by ergonomics and elegance, quintessential hallmarks of our creations.”

The Magellano 25 Metri made its US debut at the Fort Lauderdale show in Florida

Azimut has announced 14 orders of new yachts – 12 from the US and two from Latin America –  from this year’s five-day Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which concluded earlier this month.

The Italian builder reported “more than satisfactory visitor attendance”, pointing to a 12 per cent increase from 2019 for the first two days, which Azimut described as “typically the most productive at the boat show”.

Azimut’s 10-strong display included a Grande 25 Metri

Azimut displayed 10 models representing five Collections including the new Magellano 25 Metri, making its debut in the Americas. The shipyard also showed a Magellano 66, a Grande 25 Metri and 27 Metri, an Atlantis 45, an S6 and four Flybridge models – 55, 66, 72 and 78.

Federico Ferrante, President of Azimut-Benetti America, said: “We were sure that the organisers would manage participants’ safety in the best way possible.

An S6 represented Azimut’s S Collection

“We’re aware of the huge impact that FLIBS has on the boat industry and everyone who depends on this sector, which is why we were determined to take part this year despite the huge uncertainties caused by the current situation. It could have been risky, but now we’re proud that we followed our instincts, which have proved to be right.”

Australian-owned, Thailand-based builder is finalising the long-range PP67, built to explore Indonesia’s surfing hot spots, and has designed a “super-high-performance” PP70.

The upcoming PP67 is for clients looking to surf near Sumatra

PowerPlay Catamarans is preparing to launch its latest PP67 at its base in the Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Pattaya, with the model available for inspection from mid-December and sea trials scheduled for later in the month.

Designed by Australian James Dewing, who founded the company in Townsville in North Queensland in 2000, the 67ft 6in powercat with an enclosed flybridge has been custom-built for international clients looking for big surf in the Mentawai Islands west of Sumatra and to explore areas from Bali to Langkawi.

The PP67 has a large, open-plan saloon and aft galley

With a top speed of 25-plus knots, like her 2019 sistership Seamaster, the new Class A offshore catamaran is fitted with twin 600hp Cummins engines and four fuel tanks totalling 14,000 litres for a range of about 2,500nm at 13-14 knots.

“The owners are big-wave surfers who want a high-performance, long-range cruiser to take them where they want to go – and quickly when needed. They’ll be monitoring the best waves and then going to catch them with the onboard RIB and WaveRunner,” says Mr Dewing, who has been designing and building boats for over four decades.

“PowerPlay cats are built to go faster and further, then play for a while. The PP67 will easily be able to go from Singapore to the Mentawai Islands, hang out and return without refuelling. I sometimes describe our catamarans as Pacific cruisers, as our previous model is in French Polynesia and all our yachts are suitable for extensive cruising in terms of duration and distance.”

The PP65 Seamaster was delivered to Tahiti in January 2020

With a draft of 4ft 6in and a navy-blue hull, the PP67 is an evolution of Seamaster, the ocean-blue PP65 launched in December 2019 and based in Bora Bora, having been delivered to Tahiti in January. However, the PP67 has a completely new interior design and longer hull, with PowerPlay able to adapt its moulds for models from 58-72ft.

The PP67’s hull is over 2ft longer than the PP65’s and the model’s centre of gravity has moved aft compared to Seamaster, which has a forward crane and a solid foredeck where it carries its RIB. On the PP67, the foredeck will feature nets, while the tender and jetski will be carried on the fixed aft platform, which occupies the stern area where Seamaster has a self-contained fishing deck.

Like Seamaster (pictured), the PP67 will have twin helm chairs in the air-conditioned flybridge

Like Seamaster, the PP67 will have twin luxury helm chairs in the enclosed, air-conditioned flybridge. However, instead of four lower-deck cabins and a master suite forward on the main deck, the new model has a four-cabin layout, with two bedrooms in each hull, allowing for a large, open-plan saloon with dining aft.

Mr Dewing says the new yacht will be able to accommodate up to 12 people when required, but will usually have four guests, a cameraman and crew.

“The PP67 has a huge saloon with sofas about 1m deep, perfect for lounging while waiting for the big waves,” he says. “Compared to more famous brands, PowerPlay’s catamarans are faster and have better performance and longer range – those are our greatest strengths.

The “super-high-performance” PP70 is among PowerPlay’s recent designs

“Our cats are built for long distances and cruising remote islands. Our lower-deck cabins are not as big because our hulls are a little thinner, as we focus on better performance. Being built in Southeast Asia, we’re also more affordable and can basically build to the owner’s exact requirements.”

PowerPlay’s range includes a new design for a “super-high-performance” PP70 and the yard is taking orders for 2021.

Boat Lagoon Yachting confirms strong Princess orders in its Southeast Asia markets.

Boat Lagoon Yachting’s boats for sale include the Y85, a model that premiered in 2019

Boat Lagoon Yachting has announced company-record sales of nine Princess yachts in the first seven months of 2020. The regional dealer has represented the British builder since 1994 and is the official distributor in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as the Maldives.

New models sold include the F62 and F70 from the Flybridge range, S78 (Sportbridge) and two Y78s (Motor Yachts). The two units of the Y78 were recently delivered to Thailand and Singapore, including one custom fitted with Technogym exercise equipment.

Vrit Yongsakul, Group Managing Director of Boat Lagoon Yachting, said: “Our high sales momentum is continuing, demonstrating the company’s strong presence in Southeast Asia and affirming the high demand of the leading British luxury yacht brand.

“The 78 remains a particularly popular size in Southeast Asia, with five units sold – three Y78s and two Y78s sold by Boat Lagoon Yachting. We’ve also sold many other models within the S Class and well over two-dozen in the Y Class range in the last few years.”

The company’s yachts for sale include the Y85, which premiered in 2019. Designed in collaboration with naval architects Olesinksi and Italian styling house Pininfarina, the model is the flagship of the Y Class range until the launch of the Y95.

The Y85 has been customised for regional tastes, with a round dining table

The Y85 lying at Phuket Boat Lagoon has been customised for regional tastes, with a round dining table in the saloon, integrated Asian-European galley and bar feature, and a Jacuzzi spa bath on the flybridge.

“This Y85 allows owners to travel very comfortably throughout Southeast Asia. Our Asian owners particularly enjoy eating and socialising on board, often with a family across many generations, from children to grandparents. The round dining table is great for family gatherings or for corporate entertainment during business gatherings,” Vrit said.

“Particularly at this time, this boat provides a great place to base yourself if you’re working from ‘home’ and want to be in a beautiful environment. Families can really spend some quality time together in a very safe and comfortable environment, with a lot of things to do and many separate socialising areas.”

In addition, the company announced sales of eight pre-owned boats from January to July including a Princess 30M superyacht, which is the fourth M Class yacht in Southeast Asia and will be berthed in ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove in Singapore.

“Boat Lagoon Yachting is Asia’s oldest Princess distributor, with the greatest experience and expertise in pre-owned and new Princess yachts,” Vrit said. “We’ve always been the first to personally invest in bringing the latest and newest Princess models such as the world premieres of the Princess S60 and P75, and Asia firsts for the F70, 75Y, 78Y, S78, 85Y, 88Y and 30M.

“Our clients can choose from our extensive fleet of brand-new yachts and preowned vessels that are in the region and available immediately. As Asia’s premier provider of a luxury yachting experience, Boat Lagoon Yachting also continuously invests in aftersales support and quality infrastructure to provide customers with service second to none.”

Princess flies into space age with X95 | Yacht Style

Don't call it black. It's Princess's own Midnight Blue. And don't assume the next X95 hulls coming out of the Plymouth builder's historic South Yard will be the same colour. The X95 scheduled for delivery to Hong Kong in early 2021 has a white hull, as do the units set to launch before and after it, with any spraying done post-production.
