An upgrade of the model that had its world premiere in Hong Kong to launch Riva’s current Flybridge series, the 102’ Corsaro Super is having a similarly strong impact in Asia.

An upgrade of the original 100’ Corsaro, the 102’ Corsaro Super

Classic Riva iconography conjures up images of Hollywood legends like Brigitte Bardot lounging on a gleaming runaboat moored off the south of France. But it’s Asia where the new-era Riva yachts are making waves today. By this time next year, there will be three new 102’ Corsaro Super yachts plying these waters.

From the shaded flybridge and spacious beach club to its sophisticated interior, every aspect of the 30m flybridge motor yacht reflects the Italian brand’s commitment to blending traditional Riva elegance with cutting-edge design.

The original 100’ Corsaro – the first model in Riva’s current Flybridge series – made its debut in Hong Kong in 2017, with two more units later arriving in Asia. Now, the new 102’ Corsaro Super is taking the region by storm.

The first 102’ Corsaro Super in Asia arrived in Taiwan last year, with delivery facilitated by Amal Yachting. Two more hulls in this series will be heading to Hong Kong, with the first arriving this year and the second coming next year. Both have been sold by Starship Yachts, which also sold the original 100’ Corsaro and has been the Ferretti Group’s Hong Kong dealer for decades.

FLYBRIDGE PIONEER

Crafted from fibreglass with carbon-fibre elements, the 102’ Corsaro Super builds upon its predecessor with refined features and extended dimensions. Stefano de Vivo, Ferretti Group’s CCO, notes the new model’s focus on enhancing proximity to the sea, achieved through enlarged windows and low-slung bulwarks.

“With the 102’ Corsaro Super, we aimed to further improve the yacht and the experience on board, meeting the needs of our owners, who increasingly desire greater contact with the sea,” De Vivo says.

Officina Italiana Design, which has designed for Riva for three decades, took a holistic approach to modernising the exterior to create a cleaner and more fluid appearance. By incorporating subtle changes such as painting the flybridge hard top entirely black, lowering the stern and extending the aft living areas, the design team achieved a sense of forward movement and enhanced visual appeal.

Mauro Micheli, Officina Italiana Design’s co-founder and Chief Designer, says: “We started by keeping the severity, sportiness and elegance of the 100’ Corsaro’s original lines but also refined their signature styling cues, giving them a cleaner look.”

Cleaner lines are a signature of the new Corsaro

However, according to Sergio Beretta, the studio’s co-founder and CEO, the updates went beyond aesthetics, with the yacht still satisfying the sub-24m load line length.

However, according to Sergio Beretta, the studio’s co-founder and CEO, the updates went beyond aesthetics, with the yacht still satisfying the sub-24m load line length.

“The yard wanted a restyling of a much-loved model, but the fact that RINA set new parameters for boats under 24m led us to do more important thinking than just refreshing the lines of a model,” Beretta says. “These subtle modifications have produced an entirely new craft.”

The spacious cockpit has a fitted sofa and loose furniture

The design studio sought new design solutions to update a popular model, especially in the aft area. “We flattened the shape of the stern and lowered it,” Michelli says. “The result was a sort of terrace, creating an additional aft space the 100’ Corsaro didn’t have.”

The 102’ Corsaro Super introduces an outdoor beach club, paying homage to the ample sunpads found on classic Riva day boats. Just a few steps below the main-deck cockpit, the beach club boasts a large settee on the transom.

The 35sqm beach club features a 15sqm high-low swim platform. There’s a seamless flow between the beach club and main deck, so guests can feel connected and interact easily whether lounging at water level or enjoying the views from the dining area on the aft main deck

Plenty of entertainment space punctuates the flybridge

Despite the addition of the beach club, the 102’ Corsaro Super retains a garage, accommodating a Williams DieselJet 445 tender. Launching the tender is facilitated by lifting the transom and sliding the aft swim platform below the waterline, flooding the garage. The redesign of the stern not only enhances the yacht’s amenities but also reshapes its exterior, creating a sleek and graceful profile.

RICH INTERIOR

The interior of the 102’ Corsaro Super, also created by Officina Italiana Design, is a study in refined luxury, for which Riva is renowned. The indoor living areas showcase premium materials and exquisite craftsmanship.

Riva, 102 Corsaro Super, Ferretti Group, Stefano de Vivo

Forward view of the interior, which starts with the dining area and leads to the lounge and the large TV on the bulkhead

Gleaming wood, supple leather and sleek, stainless-steel accents create an atmosphere of understated elegance, while marble accents add a touch of opulence. Carefully curated furnishings from top Italian brands further elevate the interior, ensuring both comfort and style for discerning owners and guests.

Exuding glamour synonymous with a classic Riva, the interior also has a touch of masculine appeal due to chrome metal finishes, matte Canaletto walnut joinery, black and white leather panels, and tinted glass. The richness of the interior stems from the thoughtful use of wood, stainless steel and leather. Notably, the rising cost of stainless steel, which increased by 300 per cent in the past few years, underscores the exclusivity of these materials.

The saloon offers two layout options, as well as the choice to add fold-down bulwark balconies on either side. The main-deck master suite boasts redesigned and extended 2m-long windows, providing breathtaking views. Below deck, four en-suite guest cabins ensure comfort and privacy for all aboard.

The full-beam owner’s cabin first appeared on the 100’ Corsaro. “In the 102’ Corsaro Super, we wanted to maintain this layout, improving it even further by enlarging the glazing,” De Vivo says.

Efforts to maximise natural light throughout the yacht led to the redesign of hull windows and the incorporation of larger windows in the owner’s cabin. This presented technical challenges for the naval architects, who worked to ensure structural integrity while enhancing the connection to the sea.

Riva, 102 Corsaro Super, Ferretti Group, Stefano de Vivo

Rivas are known for their thrilling performance as well as their good looks. In the standard version, the yacht is equipped with a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96 engines, with a power output of 2,435hp each, for an expected maximum speed of 26 knots and 23 knots cruising.

Alternatively, a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines with a power output of 2,638hp each can be installed to give a cruising speed of 24 knots and a top speed of 28 knots.

The 102’ Corsaro Super has proven to be another fruitful collaboration between Riva, Officina Italiana Design and Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari. But more than this, the design team were able to take a much-loved yacht in the 100’ Corsaro and create something that stands out on its own.

“The 102’ Corsaro Super is a yacht undoubtedly created in the Riva tradition – you can feel it immediately,” Beretta aptly states. “We’re delighted with the result because we succeeded in retaining the Corsaro’s elegance while crafting redesigned lines that have turned it into a completely new boat.”

Azimut’s Seadeck Series gets tough on sustainability with gentle tech

The world’s first low-emission yachts offer a real reduction in environmental impact, with design, tech, and materials all geared towards cutting emissions.

Azimut has introduced its Seadeck Series of low-emission yachts

Italian shipyard Azimut has introduced the Seadeck 6, its debut offer in the Seadeck Series, the world’s first range of low-emission yachts.

The Seadeck Series prioritises sustainable materials

The Azimut yachts, which were officially presented at the Venice Boat Show 2024, combine 21st-century advancements and cutting-edge technology with a view to reducing environmental impact.

In fact, the Seadeck Series is said to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent compared to traditional yachts, thanks to innovative “gentle” technologies.

Messages may have long been delivered on ocean waves in bottles, but the Seadeck 6 turns this romantic lore into a viable new and sustainable future. Up to 30 per cent of the boat’s skeleton is made from rPET (recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate – a plastic made from repurposed waste), replacing environmental baddie PVC, and uses approximately 15,000 recovered plastic bottles to do so – a powerful message indeed.

The team at Azimut also replaced other traditional materials with natural or recycled alternatives, including cork decking over teak and more rPET, which can be recycled again and again, to create silk-like floor coverings on the lower deck.

Interior designers Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez emphasise warm, natural light

Weight reduction was a chief goal for the series, and is accomplished by combining efficient hull designs with electrification technology. Deckhouse, roof, wings, bathing platform and most of the main decks, from saloon amidships to the aft, are laminated with high-performance carbon fibre, made in-house, to optimise weight and reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Meanwhile, innovative architecture, also developed in-house by the Azimut|Benetti Group R&D team, maximises the Seadeck 6’s efficiency at cruising speeds. Its hull is wider at the stern and more streamlined at the bow, reducing drag and allowing for earlier hydroplaning.

Boats in the series look as sleek as ever. Designer Alberto Mancini has given exteriors a clean, modern look, while interior designers, Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez, created onboard environments intended to enhance the beauty found in oceanic surrounds.

A centrepiece is the yacht’s “Fun Island,” open-concept main deck that is exposed to the sea.

Warm, intimate light was another key, and the duo opted for long-lasting and scratch-resistant oak ribbing. The brise-soleil (solar shading) on the ceiling mirrors the ribbing’s rippling effects, and creates tranquil light patterns that dance and play.

The main deck offers an undisturbed connection between boat and sea

Talking of play, the Seadeck series is planned as a first hybrid-yacht solution for eco-aware families. The Seadeck 6 is 17.5m long, 5.05m wide and can accommodate six people in three guest cabins. A crew cabin is also included.

Volvo IPS engines enable speeds up to 33 knots and comfortable cruising at 24 knots, with a focus on efficient navigation thanks to a Mild Hybrid Zero Emission Hotel Mode system, which allows zero-emissions at anchor for up to eight hours and generator-off cruising to further cut emissions.

The Seadeck 6 is ready now to operate the full-hybrid system, while the Seadeck 7 will feature this solution from September of this year.

This series marks Azimut’s continued devotion to innovative solutions within the yachting world since its formation by Paolo Vitelli in 1966 and proves you can blend sleek with sustainable.

Savyavasa, the epitome of luxury, is the latest opulent project in the exclusive South Jakarta, Indonesia. Nestled in the prestigious Dharmawangsa neighbourhood, this development, set to be completed by late 2024, offers a lifestyle reserved exclusively for the privileged few.

The Dharmawangsa precinct is near a plethora of amenities and lifestyle options. From exclusive shopping destinations to various restaurants and bars, as well as vital institutions for healthcare and learning, everything you need is within easy reach, ensuring a comfortable and convenient lifestyle.

Savyavasa is the result of a collaboration between Indonesia’s JSI Group and Hong Kong-based Swire Properties. Its commitment to sustainability sets this development apart, as evidenced by its adherence to the prestigious Green Mark Gold sustainability award. This award recognises buildings that demonstrate excellent environmental performance and sustainable design, appealing to the responsible buyer.

Architectural Expertise

Savyavasa’s sustainable architectural design is the fruit of a stimulating collaboration between top-tier talent and consultants, including internationally acclaimed design firms Yabu Pushelberg and Richardson Sadeki, as well as esteemed Asian studios like Singapore-based SCDA Architects and Bali-based Intaran Design, among others.

Expansive living and dining spaces. Image: JSI Group & HK Swire Properties.

First and foremost, the Singapore-based architecture firm SCDA designed three towers housing 402 units in two- to four-bedroom configurations. “Savyavasa, in many ways, is a good illustration of the design principles of SCDA. It captures the fundamentals of design, which is space and order. The development’s indulgent lifestyle is defined through its exceptional amenities, expansive open spaces, and a strong emphasis on privacy.” Soo K. Chan, Founding Principal and Design Director of SCDA said, “The site at Savyavasa is full of natural trees, so the strategy of retaining nature and enhancing nature is essential.”

Rich layering of textures and materials adorn the master bedroom’s interior design. Image: JSI Group & HK Swire Properties.

Inspired by Dutch buildings in the neighbourhood, SCDA’s team, with their architectural vision and core design philosophy, deployed innovative passive strategies to create a healthy, comfortable indoor-outdoor living space at Savyavasa. The three towers were strategically oriented to avoid the most intense sunlight, while vertical screens and double-glazed glass prevent direct sunlight and enhance energy efficiency. The facade’s architectural fins give the residential towers a unique appearance while lowering heat gain. These design features ensure a comfortable living environment and significantly reduce the building’s environmental impact, showcasing Savyavasa’s commitment to sustainability.

The main architecture, Tower I, has a sophisticated interlocking system that produces bright and airy double-height living and dining rooms. The bedrooms and the open-plan living room are connected by large balconies that maximise views of the surrounding vegetation and skyline while seamlessly fusing indoor and outdoor spaces. Imagined as “sculptures in the park,” these magnificent buildings are encircled by lush, sculpted gardens brimming with life.

Elevated Lifestyle

Currently, it’s the only high-rise residential complex in Jakarta constructed to the Green Mark Gold standard, which aims to provide a living environment that is both enviable and harmonious with the environment. Today’s homebuyers are pursuing a modern property where nature’s peace and serenity complement the life at home.

Indulge in a family picnic at one of the manicured lawns designed by Bali-based Intaran Design. Image: JSI Group & HK Swire Properties.

This is where well-known Asian studios, like Bali-based Intaran Design, a landscape design business, used their Midas Touch to transform the land into a rich landscape of flora and foliage. Some 300 trees and replanted ones pepper the sylvan environment that embraces the property. Beyond its lush vegetation, Intaran Design, while working with the architect, had to demonstrate its commitment to environmental conservation with features like composting and water recycling facilities and smart air quality monitoring devices installed around the property. In addition, soil moisture sensors maintain optimal plant health, resulting in a setting that genuinely accentuates the splendour of the natural world.

What makes Dharmawangsa truly unique is its ability to blend and weave the past and present into a lively ambience that is distinctive to South Jakarta . From the preserved historical buildings to the modern shopping centres, the area offers a unique blend of old-world charm and contemporary convenience.

The true attraction of living in the surrounding area of Dharmawangsa is how quickly one can escape into nature. You can enjoy the sylvan landscapes, such as the 1km jogging track. Fitness buffs can benefit from the well-equipped gym or nearby sports centres, such as the private Bimansena Club, Union Yoga, and Body Works The Pilates Studio, to name a few.

After a rigorous workout, slow down the pace of life by zipping to the nearby cafes in Dharmawangsa. Indulge in the exquisite brews served at Six Ounces, Second Floor, and Kula Coffee House, all just a leisurely less than 10-minute walk away. If massages are what you crave after a workout, then the Hammam Spa at Savyavasa can lend a helping hand to sore muscles and body aches. The Dharmawangsa area caters to singles or couples pursuing their dreams and families seeking an ideal environment. With proximity to renowned educational institutions like Mentari Intercultural School and healthcare facilities such as Brawijaya Women & Children Hospital, it offers comprehensive support for family needs. Additionally, Kidzania at Pacific Place Mall provides children with engaging weekend activities for learning and growth.

Amazing Lifestyle Pursuits

Shopping and eating moments are plenty in Dharmawangsa – from casual eateries to high-end restaurants – you’ll be spoiled for choice. Shopaholics can browse high-quality items at Dharmawangsa Square and discover unique artisanal items at Tulisan Boutique. There’s more shopping to be enjoyed at Plaza Senayan, Senayan City and Pacific Place, which are a stone’s throw away. Here, you can have your pick at local crafts or international brands such as Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Rolex, or Cartier, to name a few.

Stefano Pagani Isnardi of Confindustria Nautica

For some for 15 years, Stefano Pagani Isnardi has worked at Confindustria Nautica (the Italian Marine Industry Association) and as Head of Research and Market Intelligence there since 2019.

With a PhD in engineering, his career began in transport and urban planning before joining Confindustria Nautica in 2009, establishing the Research and Project Development Department to manage technical, statistical and research-related issues, dealing at an international level with institutional stakeholders and marine federations.

He is also Chair of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (Icomia) Superyacht Division and Icomia Market Intelligence Taskforce; Vice Chair of the Icomia Technical Committee; and a Member of the European Boating Industry Executive Committee and the ISO TC8/SC12 committee for large yachts.

Here he reflects on Italy’s record-breaking year of superyacht exports:

“Italian yachting production achieved its best year ever in 2023, reaching the record figure of €4 billion in exports, up 15.9 per cent year-on-year – achieved despite the country’s overall economic slowdown, particularly in exports due to multiple international factors.

Among factors contributing to this success is Italy’s continued global leadership in the production of superyachts, with 600 yachts commissioned and/or under construction amounting to over 22,000 linear metres and representing an absolute record of 51.4 per cent of orders around the world.

Turkey had 132 yachts under construction (totalling about 6,000m) and the Netherlands had 80 totalling nearly 5,000m to sit a distant second and third place respectively in the table.

The above data was compiled by the Edison Foundation and presented in the sixth edition of La Nautica in Cifre: Monitor (Boating in Figures: Monitor), revealing market trends for 2023/24. The statistical report produced by the Italian Marine Industry Association’s Market Intelligence and Research Department provides the latest official market trends recorded at the mid-nautical-year point, with indications on the global state of the Italian yachting industry.

Useful elements emerge from the results gained following a forecasting survey conducted by the Italian Marine Industry Association, identifying 2024 as a complex year, with a general normalisation of growth in the boating sector, following a long cycle of significant market development.

In relation to the results for 2023, turnover growth compared to 2022 is prevalent among companies. Whereas the situation remains positive for the superyacht sector, for boatyards producing units under 24m, 84 per cent of those who responded expect to improve or be similar to the previous year. In boating equipment and engines segments, eight out of 10 companies confirmed a positive or stable 2023 final balance

Sentiment regarding 2024, surveyed after the winter boat show season, confirmed a differentiation of turnover trends between the superyacht and sub-24m production industries.

The Italian superyacht industry has grown each year since 2020 and these positive results are highlighted by the multi-year extension of order books, with two out of three companies recording an increase in their order books compared to 12 months ago.

As far as the smaller craft market is concerned, a contraction is expected in 2024 in some product segments and geographic areas, largely driven by economic factors external to the market, such as rising interest rates and access to credit, increasing international geopolitical tensions and the anticipation of election results in Europe and the US.

Stefano Pagani Isnardi, Italy, Confindustria Nautica, superyachts, export, record exportThe Genoa International Boat Show is held annually in September

On this basis, 2024 appears to be an up-and-down year, with turnover forecasts ‘growing’ for 32 per cent of the companies surveyed, ‘stable’ for 32 per cent and ‘decreasing’ for 36 per cent. As things stand, the order portfolio is in a state of growth or stability compared to 12 months ago for 44 per cent of companies.

At the same time, in the boating equipment and engines segment, 2024 is viewed as a year of transition. About 82 per cent of those surveyed expect to close the year with growth or keep in line with 2023, while the current order backlog also indicates a state of increase or stability for 65 per cent.

From the nautical tourism sector, positive prospects for 2024 emerge from charter companies. All respondents have stated that this year will be even better than the previous. For half of the sample, more weeks have been booked than 12 months ago, while the change in the average value of a week’s charter sold is stable or growing for three out of every four respondents.

The sixth edition of Monitor includes a new assessment of the impact of external factors on the industry’s performance, includin, international political tensions, freight costs, rising interest rates, supply chain trends, logistical inefficiencies and rising energy prices.

As per tradition, the official closing figures for the previous year will be announced during the presentation of the new La Nautica in Cifre LOG at the Genoa International Boat Show, with the 64th edition of Italy’s largest boat show to be held from September 19-24.”

What a week this is for boating in Hong Kong.

It kicked off on Monday evening with a full house for a Hong Kong Boating Industry Association (HKBIA) update meeting of its members and a guest speaker – Paul Zimmerman of Designing Hong Kong (a non-profit organisation that promotes sustainability and quality of life in the territory) – at a full events space the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC)

Then, from yesterday, the two-day Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit (APSS) took place, with some 150 guest speakers and industry attendees filling a function room at a five-star hotel on Hong Kong Island.

Lawrence Chow (above right), the chair of HKBIA – which promotes the leisure marine industry and has three to four such meetings a year – confirmed that there is a Hong Kong Boat Show scheduled for late November-early December 2024, which will be preceded by a boating industry conference.

He briefly mentioned the perennial need for more berths and moorings in Hong Kong before he handed over to Zimmerman (above right) who spoke of the need to expand not only moorings but also storage facilities for smaller boats and marine toys. He noted that surf or paddle boards were too large for many people to store in homes. This is at odds with the territory possessing the longest coastline in any coastal city, he pointed out, before mentioning plans for marinas and moorings and where they are at — also advising that To Kwa Wan in Kowloon would be a great landing and mooring area but no such plans exist as yet.

Next up Alan Reid (above right) of Icomia (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) and Marine Manager at RHKYC spoke on the further sweeteners and action needed in decarbonisation in Hong Kong’s pleasure boat industry. Simple changes such as keeping hulls and propellers clean, along with more efficient hull designs, optimised weight, LPG engines and availability of and incentives for ‘clean non-fossil power’ (battery & hydrogen) were mentioned.

In Singapore, all harbour craft is to be decarbonised by 2050, he added – no such plans are yet tabled in Hong Kong.

Ewa Stachurska (above right), Vice President of Marketing, Strategic Partnerships and Business Development at Simpson Marine – the regional yacht distributor, services and charter company headquartered in Hong Kong – presented figures on how much leisure-yachting ownership and associated industries help economies they are in. When striving for community financial goals, she mentioned that in Italy, where the industry is widely developed, the figure is approximately US$1:9, for money spent on marine activities – meaning a factor of nine goes back into the wider economy.

She decried the mooring shortage regionally, explaining that with the rise in sales of boats across the seven countries in Asia where her company is operating, owners are faced with too few available berths.

Chow wrapped up by adding that in July a survey on boating improvements will go out to HKIBA members, to be completed by September, after which findings will be disclosed at the pre-Hong Kong Boat Show 2024 conference before being presented Icomia and to the Hong Kong Government.

It was a fine endorsement of Hong Long’s place in the world’s yachting – and specifically, superyachting sphere – that, spearheaded by the Dutch publication, Superyacht Times, the APSS (Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit) took place over two days.

As Yacht Style, a media partner of the event, and we publish this online article, we can reflect and show images from Day 1.

The Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association was a supporting partner of this event, largely held at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel by day (pictured above), where a roster of panel discussions spanned the topics of managing/operating yachts in APAC; building a charter fleet; developing the charter market; Dubai as a hub for superyachts; and selling superyachts in Asia – among others.

Many idea seeds will have been planted this week, along with valuable contacts and acquaintances made.

Silolona at dusk in the volcanic Indonesian island landscape

Stepping aboard either of these roomy vessels, and enjoying the voyage through Nusa Tenggara, also historically known as the Spice Islands, from the sprawling fore and aft deck areas, with the sound of the wind in the sails, is a good start to the beginning of a real holiday charter escape.

Silolona Sojourns operates the two very comfortably furnished yachts, upon which charters generally start from a week’s stay aboard, with all meals, crew, tour/expedition leader and a certain amount of marine toys (including kayaks, snorkel and scuba gear, waterskiing) included within booking fees – and some requiring a surcharge. Cabins are decorated in keeping with the stained timber of the main decks: warm, luxurious and well served with amenities.

Si Datu Bua, like Silolona has generous and comfortable main-deck lounging areas

Silolona was the first charter boat, built of sustainable selected Borneo ironwood and other hardwoods to a design that melds traditional Indonesian fisher-folk phinisi with a few simplified lines in the interpretation by Kasten Marine Design studio, USA, and a state-of-the-art navigation and communication system. Within the 49.8m length overall, and 10m beam are three kingsize master suites, and two queen-size cabins with extra child beds available for all.

At 40.2m overall length, 3.2m wide at maximum draft and with a relaxed cruising speed of 10 knots, Si Datu Bua, the operator’s second hull has a kingsize double suite and two queen-size ones (children’s beds can be set up in any of these) and is also equipped with two RIB tenders.

One fascinating island cluster to visit is Flores, which has maintained much of its indigenous culture in several pockets of its largely rural settlements.

The adventure through the Flores Archipelago is filled with a stunning chain of narrow, rugged islands crowned with dramatic volcanoes, often adorned with untamed natural beauty. Each island in this group boasts elements of its own traditional culture, handwoven textiles, and dialects.

The Koo Rai ritual dance also displays local ikat fabric weaving

Life here remains beautifully simple, with communities thriving on farming and fishing, maintaining a way of life that has changed little over generations.

With Silolona Sojourns, your journey begins in Maumere, the capital of the main Flores Island, and culminates on the unspoiled shores of Sumba Island. This region is known for its exceptional diving and snorkelling.

White sand and pristine waters abound around Flores

Secluded bays, pristine beaches and tranquil anchorages abound around these waters and the cultural richness of the islands is captivating.

Ancient rituals, dances, traditional ikat weaving and tribal dwellings still exist. A unique ritual of hundreds of men on horseback, signalling the arrival of seaworms is one of many of the archipelago’s mystical cultural events to behold.

On Savu Island, the horse is a main mode of transport

While colourful coral and fish always impress in this vicinity, one of the most spectacular sights is above the water line: Batutara Volcano, standing alone in the middle of the sea, regularly emitting fiery boulders. Nearby, at a black-sand beach, you can walk right into the water to snorkel or dive among vibrant corals that sparkle like precious gems against the dark backdrop.

British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor created eight sculptures

SeaLink North Queensland and the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) are holding a special excursion to the MOUA ‘Ocean Sentinels’ installation at John Brewer Reef on Saturday, June 8, in honour of World Ocean Day.

The World Ocean Day tour will provide a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet and listen to four Ocean Sentinels, each a distinguished marine scientist and conservationist.

Passengers will journey on SeaLink’s state-of-the-art fast ferry, a modern and spacious air-conditioned catamaran, to enjoy the privilege of exploring the only underwater art installation in the southern hemisphere: eight sculptures of Ocean Sentinels, created by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor.

The sculptures will evolve as marine life colonise the space

The surfaces of the sculptures are intentionally designed to attract marine organisms, allowing them to evolve over time as corals, sponges and hydroids colonise them, as a showcase of the reef’s ever-changing ecology.

SeaLink North Queensland takes great pride in holding Ecotourism Australia’s Advanced ECO Certification, which highlights a dedication to sustainable practices and authentic nature-based tourism experiences, including Orpheus Island Day Tour, whale watching, charter tours, and Outer Reef experiences, which incorporate the MOUA.

With a range of up to 350 nautical miles, this yacht feels ideal for long-distance cruising.

Meets growing demand for luxury yachts

This debut meets a need for a surge in the demand for luxury yachts, in Singapore and across the region.

Sentosa Cove – the location for this year’s Singapore Yachting Festival – was bustling with activity, with both local and international visitors seeking new and exciting experiences.

Indeed, as Singapore continues to develop marina infrastructure and adds yacht shows and events to the calendar, demand for yachts is expected to grow. Models like the Fairline Squadron 58 are leading the charge.

At the Singapore premiere, designers explained how expansive and harmonious living areas are

 A glimpse behind the scenes

Yacht enthusiasts and industry experts from around the region gathered to witness the yacht’s premiere unveiling with excitement. Those invited aboard met the designers and engineers behind the yacht to hear about the craftsmanship and innovation that went into its creation.

In the weeks since, yacht owners and enthusiasts to Simpson Marine given the opportunity to experience the Fairline Squadron 58 first-hand have praised its comfort, stability, and luxurious features.

His Highness, the Crown Prince of Dubai receives delivery of a Saxdor 400 GTO from the Finnish shipyard’s CEO

Saxdor Yachts, the innovative boat producer from Finland, has announced the successful delivery of a Saxdor 400 GTO to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.

But just what makes this model the choice of royalty?

The Saxdor 400 GTO is the Finnish boatmaker’s flagship design, and features more of the innovative hallmarks that fans of the boatmaker have come to expect.

Modular and spacious – a nod to the “private island” concept that inspires its design – the 400 GTO certainly achieves an open-plan boating experience. An expansive open wheelhouse extends to the full beam of the boat for optimum living space and is fitted with stylish plush seating.

Saxtor’s 400 GTO is a cruiser built to optimized for space

After a day’s sailing, guests are invited to drop anchor and lower down five-metre-long side terraces to trail their toes in ocean waves before, perhaps, venturing up to sunset drinks at a well-appointed bow seating area.

The Crown Prince will no doubt enjoy spending time with his guests on a full-sized sunpad on the aft deck and appreciate the generous boost to deck space allowed by twin cockpit balconies that extend halfway along the boat’s total length of just over 40ft.

Able to accommodate five guests comfortably, the cruiser features a forward double cabin with a separate bathroom, an additional mid cabin, and, tucked under companionway steps, room for an added children’s cabin.

Up to 42 knots can be achieved in the 400 GTO model.

Saxdor’s CEO Erna Rusi, alongside a senior team, assembled to oversee a smooth handover to the prince and was clearly excited. “We cannot wait to see His Highness enjoy the incredible features of this boat,” expressed Rusi.

And, features there are many. His Highness is known for a discerning taste and high regard for fine craftsmanship. In the Saxdor 400 GTO he will be well able to bask in a boat that offers both style and speed.

Sunreef reveals 60 Power Eco

Sunreef’s selection of Eco catamarans cruising at sea just keeps getting bigger, although its newest model is its smallest solar-electric powercat to date.

The 60 Sunreef Power Eco premieres at Cannes Yachting Festival 2024

Sunreef plans to premiere its 60 Sunreef Power Eco at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival on France’s south coast from September 10-15. The Polish shipyard, which also has a growing production facility in the UAE, has long used Cannes and the Monaco Yacht Show a couple of weeks later as its main events to debut new yachts, and this year will be no exception.

The shipyard started showcasing its current New Beginnings range at Cannes in 2018 when it unveiled the Sunreef 80 and 60 sailing cats, adding the 50 (2019) and 70 (2021) in subsequent years. In parallel, the 80 Sunreef Power that premiered at Cannes in 2019 kickstarted the modern powercat range – using completely different hulls to the sailing cats – and was followed by the 60 Power and 70 Power, unveiled at Cannes in 2021 and last year respectively.

As if this wasn’t enough, Sunreef splashed its first 100 Power in late 2021, with the yacht eventually appearing on the cover of Yacht Style’s Multihull Issue in 2022 and finally making its public premiere at last year’s Palma International Boat Show.

The Eco range sport a wafer-thin ‘solar skin’

However, Sunreef’s post-Covid focus has been on rolling out its Eco range, which offers the classic models listed above – and even larger sailing cats – with the shipyard’s green tech.

Most obviously, this includes its wafer-thin ‘solar skin’ that can wrap around hull sides, the superstructure, hard top and even the mast, while it also includes custom-engineered batteries and electric motors to produce silent, emission-free cruising and operations. Hydrogeneration systems, ultra-efficient air-conditioning, and even wind turbines are among options.

Eco models have also been led by the sailing side, with the 80 Eco just missing out on a premiere at the Dubai International Boat Show in early 2022, instead debuting at Cannes later in the year. At Cannes last year, the 80 Eco was joined by both the 70 Eco and 60 Eco sailing cats.

On the powercat side, the 80 Power Eco had its world premiere at Cannes last year with Athena Too. The yacht was actually launched after Sol, which had made its way across the Atlantic and was used for the model’s US premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October.

The most recent Eco model on the water is the 60 Sunreef Power Eco, the smallest Eco powercat to date. Like other Eco models, it offers the shipyard’s revolutionary solar-power system, with photovoltaic cells built into the hulls, superstructure and flybridge hard top. The green energy generated powers both the yacht’s propulsion and onboard appliances, with electric motors fed by an ultralight battery bank for vibration-free cruising.

The 60 Sunreef Power Eco has plenty of deck space

Special features include a large hydraulic swim platform that can carry a tender and double as a ‘private beach’, plus there’s an aft garage for water toys. However, it’s the cockpit and its large table for alfresco dining that better reveal the sheer expanse of the cat due to its whopping 35ft-plus beam.  The wide-open space is also felt on the foredeck terrace.

Forward of the windscreen is a sunken lounge including an L-shaped sofa and a table to port, as well as sunpads to starboard, all surrounded by clean deck space that allows people to gather, socialise and admire the view.

A large flybridge offers plenty of room for customisation. Proposed layouts include a bench-seat helm forward, wet bar to port and a dining table placed athwartships, which is moved slightly forward if the owner takes up the enticing option of a spa pool and sunpads spanning the aft end of the top deck.

The aft and flybridge desks offer pockets of outdoor privacy

Although not represented in this article, the saloon in the 60 Power Eco can be customised but is otherwise offered in two basic layouts, all arrangements benefiting from natural light from both the skylight and panoramic glazing.

The choice of galley-up or galley-down – or galleys up and down – can influence the cabin arrangement in the hulls. Without a lower galley, the yacht can offer up to six en-suite guest cabins – three on each side – as well as two en-suite crew cabins, each in the forepeak.

Otherwise, a galley can replace the starboard midships cabin, while a master suite option replaces the two aft cabins in the port hull. The options are almost endless, one reason Sunreef has become so dominant in its sector.
