Due to a growing in-water line-up, the five-day event at La Grande Motte will include separate displays for sailing multihulls and power catamarans.

The area shown top left will be dedicated to power catamarans

This year’s International Multihull Show in La Grande Motte “is shaping up to be the most successful ever”, according to organiser M2Organisation, which is anticipating a record 75 yachts and 170 exhibitors.

For the first time, the five-day event in southern France will include a separate display for power catamarans, with up to 20 multihull motor yachts expected in the new in-water zone. On land, the exhibitors’ village has been redesigned and expanded, and will showcase equipment manufacturers, designers and other service providers, as well as the Multihull Design & Innovation zone.

The line-up of yachts could feature as many as nine world premieres – including the Lagoon 38 and Excess 13 sailing catamarans – as well as four Europe debuts.

The Lagoon 38 is the brand’s new entry model

The Lagoon 38 will have its world premiere, a few weeks after its private showing at the Lagoon Exclusive Days in Bordeaux in March. The world’s leading builder of cruising catamarans will also show its 43, 51 Iconic, 55 and 60 sailing catamarans, while a Lagoon 42 and two units of the Lagoon 46 will be shown by charter companies.

Excess, also part of the Beneteau Group, will stage the global debut of the Excess 13 alongside the Excess 11 and Excess 14.

Fountaine Pajot is showing five sailing cats – an Astrea 42, Elba 45, Tanna 47, Aura 51 and Samana 59. Bali, of the Catana Group, is showing six, ranging from the Catsmart (39ft) and Catspace (40ft) to the 4.2, 4.4, 4.6 and flagship 5.8, while another Catsmart and Bali 5.4 are being exhibited independently, according to a provisional line-up of yachts.

Fountaine Pajot is among the major exhibitors

Leopard, which builds in Cape Town, is showing a Leopard 42 and a Moorings 5000 – a charter version of the Leopard 50 – while the Knysna 500SE is also from South Africa.

Chinese shipyards will have a significant presence, with Heysea staging the global debut of its Seaview 59 by British designer Bill Dixon, and HH Catamarans exhibiting an HH44.

The aluminium Tortue 147 will have its world premiere, while other sailing cats include the Orc 57, Outremer 55 and 52, Nautitech’s 48 Open and 44 Open, Comar Yachts’ C-Cat 48 and C-Cat 38, Aventura 45 and 37. The Neel 52, Neel 43, Dragonfly 36, Tricat 30 and Tricat 8.50 are among sailing trimarans.

Power and sailing cats will be separated this year

Among power catamarans, Aventura is set to stage the world premieres of its 38 SC (Sport Cruiser) coupe and 38 MY (Motor Yacht) flybridge model, both built in Tunisia.

Aquila is set to display its 50 Yacht and 42 Yacht inboard flybridge models, and 36 Sport and 32 Sport outboard coupes. Leopard will show its 40 Powercat, 46 Powercat and 53 Powercat flybridge models plus a Moorings 403, a three-cabin charter version of its 40 Powercat, while Poland’s Dracan Marine will exhibit its Dracan 42.

The Beneteau Group is represented by the Prestige M48 and Four Winns TH36, while other powercats from French brands include Fountaine Pajot’s MY6 (46ft) and Catana Group’s Yot 36 and Yot 41 coupes built in Portugal.

Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue is TUDOR’s New Miami Vice

Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue: Tudor’s new high-spec head-turner

SHARE

The iconic Black Bay Chrono lineup gets a turquoise addition.

By Elliot Tan

Following the success of its pink-dialled sibling from 2024, TUDOR is injecting another burst of colour into its iconic Black Bay Chrono lineup. The new “Flamingo Blue” channels the spirit of South Beach into a sophisticated sports watch, manifested in the form of a turquoise dial.

Details That Matter

While flamingos themselves aren’t blue, the dial’s distinctive turquoise hue evokes the tropical waters where these birds inhibit — bright skies, shimmering lagoons, and the kind of carefree energy that comes with the imagery. The 41mm chronograph maintains the Black Bay’s signature design elements, including the iconic “Snowflake” hands — a Tudor diving watch hallmark since 1969 — and a domed dial with two contrasting black sub-counters. Paying homage to TUDOR’s first chronographs from 1970, the layout includes a 45-minute counter and a date window neatly positioned at 6 o’clock.

But don’t be fooled by its playful look — the Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” is as serious as they come. At its core lies the Manufacture Calibre MT5813, a high-performance automatic movement featuring a column wheel and vertical clutch. The chronograph movement, derived from Breitling’s B01 calibre but enhanced with TUDOR’s own regulating organ and exclusive finishes, offers a robust 70-hour power reserve and COSC certification that qualifies for everything from adventurous pursuits to day-to-day wear. The watch can also reach depths of up to 200 meters, living up to its sun-soaked aesthetic.

A fixed bezel with a tachymetric scale adds a dash of motorsport flair, harking back to the 1970s Oysterdate chronographs that cemented TUDOR’s connection to the racing world. Yet, the Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” doesn’t overplay its sporty side. Instead, it strikes a careful balance between the racetrack and boardwalk — perfect for the massive market of collectors who love drag racing and long walks on the beach.

Then there’s the bracelet. TUDOR’s five-link stainless steel bracelet with the T-fit clasp might not steal headlines, but it deserves praise. Offering five adjustment positions within an 8mm range, the rapid adjustment clasp requires no tool, allowing wearers to tweak the fit on the fly. The ceramic ball bearings ensure a smooth, secure closure while adding a subtle tactile pleasure to each adjustment.

The Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” isn’t a watch for those looking to fade into the background. It’s a statement piece that merges heritage with personality, embracing the boldness and individuality of Miami. Practicality? That depends on who you ask. But for those who believe that individuality can coexist with style, this is a watch that fits in anywhere — and yet stands out everywhere.

The Asia-Pacific yacht brokerage market continues to flourish, bolstered by increasing wealth in the region, a growing passion for the yachting lifestyle, world-class cruising grounds and a wide selection of good brokerage deals available on the market.

Within this arena, through our insistence on transactional ethics and help for clients to navigate their selection, purchase and aftersales needs, Simpson Marine has emerged as a leading regional brokerage in yacht sales. A closer look at the state of the market, from my point of view, follows.

REGIONAL APPETITE INCREASES FOR PRE-OWNED YACHTS

The APAC region has seen exponential growth in yachting over the last decade, particularly with the exceptional demand during the pandemic years. Countries like Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines offer stunning cruising destinations.

At the same time, markets like Hong Kong and Singapore continue to serve as key hubs for new yacht ownership and brokerage for both in-region purchases and outbound to the Middle East, Turkey and the West Mediterranean.

Demand for premium yachts, particularly in the 60-100ft range, remains robust, catering to affluent individuals keen to embrace the ocean-going lifestyle. Larger superyachts are also gaining traction, especially for Chinese customers buying for berths abroad, and in Australia where we have just opened our Sydney office.

Growing numbers of ultra-high-net-worth individuals are entering the APAC market, despite its temporary slowdown overall, because of socio-political conditions.

Alongside these promising trends, buyers and sellers face challenges such as regulatory differences across jurisdictions and navigating a highly competitive marketplace. This is where regional expertise from a brokerage becomes invaluable for potential brokerage buyers.

A BROKERAGE WITH A TRACK RECORD MAKES FOR CALM CRUISING

It instils confidence in potential owners of pre-owned yachts and in brokers serving them to know that a brokerage is constantly keeping up to date with the ever-evolving processes across buying and selling, and yacht ownership in markets within a region.

With 40 years of experience in the Asian market, spanning Japan to Indonesia and down to Australia, Simpson Marine has facilitated over 3,500 successful transactions across the APAC region. From Hong Kong to Singapore, and extending to burgeoning markets like Vietnam and Malaysia, the company’s extensive network and in-depth localised knowledge give us an advantage.

Blue Iris, a 2023 Lagoon Sixty 7 multihull for sale with Simpson Marine, Hong Kong

Recent standout brokerage sales include luxury motoryachts from renowned shipyards like Sanlorenzo, Riva, Majesty and Benetti, to mention a few.

In addition, Simpson Marine’s status as the regional brand representative of Sanlorenzo allows us to offer a curated selection of vessels from the shipyard that have been originally sold and cared for by our team, and hence their condition is well maintained and extremely attractive for sale on the brokerage market.

As Simpson Marine now has offices in 13 key APAC locations, we formulate a well-segmented and curated database of customers, with a large pool of buyers and sellers ensuring optimal exposure for every yacht listed.

BROKERAGE SALES AND BUYER PURCHASES RELY ON FIRM FOUNDATIONS

In the brokerage field, comprehensive marketing is essential and should use – as ours does – a mix of traditional and digital strategies, including tailored campaigns, professional photography, videos and virtual tours, as well as B2B2C in-person open days to showcase yachts at their best.

Technical expertise is also vital with brokerage yachts. In-house expert service teams should offer technical assessments and maintenance support, ensuring all listed yachts meet the highest standards of readiness, and post-survey remedies are carried out professionally and efficiently.

Years of excellence in brokerage sales have earned Simpson Marine a trusted reputation for transparency, professionalism, results-driven service, and for being capable to handling complex high-value deals, including via cryptocurrency transactions.

Buying must be made straightforward, to help simplify the complexities of yacht acquisition. It should be part of the whole service at a brokerage to offer everything from expert guidance on selecting the perfect yacht to assistance with financing, insurance and registration. A brokerage should ensure a seamless process.

At Simpson Marine, it helps that as well as offering this complete range of services, our extensive brokerage portfolio includes everything from sleek motoryachts to family-friendly catamarans and expedition vessels for the adventurous.

POPULAR YACHTS AND DESTINATIONS

Currently, some of the most tempting yachts that Simpson Marine offers in the APAC region include:

A 2019 Sanlorenzo SX76, lying in Hong Kong. Designed by Studio Zuccon International, with an interior by famous Italian designer Piero Lissoni, the SX76 is a crossover model that sits between a traditional classic flybridge and explorer yacht, packaged into a distinctive silhouette.

Also in Hong Kong, a 2023 Lagoon Sixty 7, a 20.15m powercat with a massive 10m beam. The yacht offers great comfort, panoramic views, four en-suite cabins and vast living spaces inside and out for rest and privacy.

The 52m Vanora, a 2023 custom Seacrest Marine build lying in Phuket, is for sale with Simpson Marine

A standout in Phuket is a 2023 custom-built Seacrest Marine 52m, called Vanora, a yacht where sophistication meets adventure. Its aluminium hull and build meet the high standards of Lloyd’s Register.

Outbound yacht sales frequently venture to renowned cruising grounds. These include the East Mediterranean, particularly hotspots like Turkey – a very popular destination in the past 12 months – Montenegro and Greece. The Maldives is a haven for those seeking turquoise waters and pristine atolls, and is a convenient cruising location between Asia and the Middle East.

The Middle East itself has become a very active market, with its local governments supporting and facilitating their regulations to attract more yachts to visit and stay in the region. World-class facilities, simple and transparent regulations, with no tax on yachting and a convenient location make the Middle East an attractive winter destination for Mediterranean-based superyachts.

For buyers looking to keep their yachts closer to home, destinations like Phuket in Thailand, Langkawi in Malaysia, and Indonesia’s Raja Ampat islands offer unparalleled experiences here in the APAC region.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR YACHT

Purchasing a second-hand yacht is no small undertaking, and we as yacht brokers must support and advise our clients to the best of our ability. After over eight years working for Simpson Marine in Hong Kong, I’d like to share some of my thoughts and advice to yacht owners regarding selling their yachts.

If you take care of your yacht, it will take care of you in return. We sometimes see owners trying to cut corners when it comes to crewing levels and ongoing care and maintenance of the vessel. Since yachts in Asia often have low engine hours, some owners think this means they can retain a smaller team to take care of the yacht, and maybe defer servicing engines, a generator, and other aspects aboard the yacht.

Compound these practices over a few years, and a toll is taken on the overall condition and presentation of the vessel – both above and below the surface. First impressions are valuable. When knowledgeable yacht brokers and their clients visit a yacht, often flying a long way to do so, it’s easy for them to see if the yacht has been well cared for or not.

The world has a bountiful supply of second-hand yachts in all shapes and sizes. If your yacht does not meet a potential buyer’s standards, chances are they will make a lower-than-expected offer on yours, or simply move on and find a better yacht elsewhere.

MARKET TRENDS AND PRICING

Yachts in Asia tend to be high-specification and have relatively low engine hours, making them desirable on the global market. As a result, we have seen a recent influx of interest from overseas clients and brokers, mainly from Europe and Turkey. Sales have been active in these markets, with motivated buyers looking to Asia to find high-quality yachts with motivated sellers.

For Asia-based sellers keen to agree a deal, when considering pricing it’s worth mentioning two key costs that a buyer in Europe or Turkey must bear. The first is transport – usually around US$100,000-$200,000 depending on the yacht’s size – and the second is VAT of up to 20 per cent. As a result, offers may seem low, but they are just factoring in the total cost of transport and the admin needed to establish new ownership.

It is always tempting to wait for a better offer, but I advise sellers to accept the first solid offer. Six months down the road, a better offer may be submitted, but that must be balanced against a further six months of incurred ownership costs.

BROKERAGE FUTURE IN APAC LOOKS BRIGHT

I’m pleased to see vibrant inbound and outbound markets across the APAC region, and that we at Simpson Marine continue to inspire confidence among yachting enthusiasts. If you’re considering entering the yachting world or are ready to upgrade your vessel, trust us to guide you on this exciting journey – you know where to find us.

Port Takola Yacht Marina in Krabi, east of Phuket, has commenced its second-phase expansion, which includes the addition of 80 wet berths for 10-25m yachts and the Capitainerie, an administrative building for the inland marina.

Operational since 2018, Port Takola’s first phase includes 49 wet berths, which cater for yachts from 10m up to 45m superyachts. The boatyard has 9,000sqm of service area and includes a 38-tonne Roodberg trailer boat lift.

In 2022, the country’s Environmental Impact Assessment Committee (EIA) approved a plan for a 300-berth marina expansion.

The second phase will include 80 berths along Piers B and C. Pier L, a new public passenger pier, will also be introduced to offer connectivity by ferry services to Krabi Town, situated just 800m across the river.

As well as in-water expansion, the Capitainerie will be a key part of on-land developments in phase two. Construction has already begun on the single-storey administrative building, which features a 15m swimming pool, marina office, meeting room and store.

Matthew na Nagara, General Manager of Port Takola Yacht Marina, said the marina’s expansion will accommodate growing demand for berths in a province that neighbours Phang Nga Bay, offers easy access to the Phi Phi Islands and the Andaman Sea, and is served by Krabi International Airport.

“We want to foster a welcoming yachting community. Krabi is a desirable homeport for the Andaman Sea and is a short cruise from many stunning, secluded islands, picturesque limestone karsts and natural reserves,” said Na Nagara, son of the marina’s founder, Surgeon Admiral Suriya Na Nagara of the Royal Thai Navy.

“In Krabi, developments include the Central Krabi mall mixed-use project, a new international hospital and international school, and the expansion of Krabi International Airport. These reasons are helping establish Krabi as an ideal destination for boaters seeking a home base on the Andaman Sea.”

A Na Nagara family project, Port Takola Yacht Marina is situated on a historical estate that was once a coconut plantation. Just 10 minutes from Ao Nang and across the river from Krabi Town, the marina was envisioned to offer year-round shelter, convenient town access, and proximity to some of the region’s most picturesque islands.

Nicholson transformed Camper & Nicholsons from a UK-based yacht builder and designer into a world-leading superyacht brokerage house.

George Nicholson

Camper & Nicholsons – founded in 1782 in Gosport, England – has announced the passing of George Nicholson, “a visionary leader whose impact on the yachting industry is immeasurable”. Nicholson passed away in late February 2025 at the age of 87.

Born in England in 1937, Nicholson founded Camper & Nicholsons International in 1961 as he expanded his family’s yacht build and design company into the brokerage sector, while also growing its presence beyond the UK, into Europe and then globally.

Paolo Casani, CEO of Camper & Nicholsons, said: “George was not only a visionary but a mentor, a gentleman, and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working with him. His legacy will live on in the yachts he helped bring to life, the industry he helped to shape, and the countless individuals he guided along the way.”

For over six decades, Nicholson played a defining role in transforming Camper & Nicholsons into a global brand, pioneering the yacht brokerage industry, and shaping the modern luxury yachting landscape.

“His knowledge, vision and understanding of client relationships transformed the company into a benchmark for excellence in yacht brokerage, construction and charter,” Camper & Nicholsons stated.

His journey with the family business began in 1959 when he travelled to Cannes and began promoting Camper & Nicholsons yachts, which laid the groundwork for Mediterranean expansion in the 1960s as the company established offices in Cannes, Monaco and Palma.

Azimut-Benetti enlarges scope with SEA Index

The Azimut-Benetti Group will adopt the Superyacht Eco Association’s Index emissions rating for 24m-plus yachts, a market sector the Italian shipyard has led for 25 years.

Azimut Grande 36M

The Azimut-Benetti Group has announced that it will adopt the SEA Index CO2 emissions rating tool for all its yachts over 24m. The SEA Index is a CO2 certification programme for 24m-plus yachts based on the International Maritime Organisation’s EEDI and EEXI. The Index is managed by the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA), a non-profit organisation launched by the Yacht Club de Monaco in 2020.

Azimut-Benetti started collaborating with the Superyacht Eco Association in 2023, as the Italian shipyard commissioned Lloyd’s Register to develop a similar carbon-emission index for sub-24m yachts.

However, this latest partnership with the Superyacht Eco Association means all Azimut-Benetti Group’s 24m-plus yachts will be rated by the SEA Index, which was specifically created for superyachts. The certification calculates the carbon emissions of full-custom and semi-custom yachts, and provides a rating of one to five stars based on each boat’s “relative environmental performance … compared to industry benchmarks”.

The SEA Index can be used by owners or captains to assess the energy intensity of their vessels, while builders can support eco-conscious boat design and construction by integrating a SEA Index framework into the concept phase of new-build yachts. Azimut-Benetti builds more than 45 yacht models in six shipyards and has over 2,000 employees.

Alessandro Rossi, Chief Product Officer Azimut-Benetti Group, said: “We are thrilled to partner with SEA Index to reinforce our commitment to sustainable yacht design by validating our yachts’ emission targets through SEA Index’s rigorous framework.

Benetti’s 67m custom-built Kasper 7

“Achieved through advanced naval architecture and cutting-edge technologies, these targets reflect our dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, we believe this collaboration will encourage greater transparency in data sharing, fostering a more conscious approach among industry players and yacht owners alike.

Azimut-Benetti has led the Global Order Book for 24m-plus yachts for 25 consecutive years and was listed in the 2025 edition as having 164 units under construction with a total length of 5,905m. Natalie Quévert, Project Lead, SEA Index, said the Italian shipyard’s adoption of the SEA Index was a “big recognition of our work”.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Azimut-Benetti Group on this important initiative. It is encouraging to see esteemed industry leaders embracing the SEA Index CO2 emissions rating tool to prioritise sustainability from the outset,” Quévert said.

“Similarly, we look forward to incorporating Azimut’s formula for measuring carbon emissions of yachts under 24m into the SEA Index ecosystem. Together, we can drive meaningful change in the industry and empower yachting stakeholders to embrace a more sustainable future.”

SEA Index is the only superyacht design index to offer third-party verification. Certificate holders that achieve three stars or higher on the SEA Index are invited to join the SEA Index network, which provides access to exclusive benefits, including priority berthing.

Fountaine Pajot and Dufour took a majority stake in burgeoning regional dealer The Yacht Sales Co in late 2024, and are on course to expand rapidly in the region. Words: Bruce Maxwell; photos Fountaine Pajot and Dufour.

Fountaine Pajot already has a premier place in the increasingly popular sail and power catamaran market here, while sturdy, well-designed Dufour monohull yachts are top sellers in France, and have sailed in Asia-Pacific waters since the 1980s. The two yards, located around La Rochelle and its nearby regions, merged under FP control in 2018 to achieve better build and marketing synergies.

Mathieu Fountaine, Deputy CEO of Fountaine Pajot-Dufour Group, at left with Greg Boller and Mark Elkington, CEO of The Yacht Sales Co, Romain Motteau, Deputy CEO of FP-Dufour, Patrick Gillot of TYSC and Steven Guedeu, Group Sales Director of FP-Dufour

Their innovative Odysséa project launched last year, for example, strives to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Most models in their current ranges – 37-53ft Dufours and 41-80ft sail and motor Fountaine Pajot catamarans – are also available in Smart Electric mode. Campaigns to keep oceans clean are strongly supported by the group.

Buying 60 per cent equity in The Yacht Sales Co (TYSC), with its 15 offices in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific and Southeast Asia, marks a new sales and service phase which will equally apply to other dealers in places like Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong and South Korea. It is the second such acquisition lately. Italy’s Sanlorenzo motoryachts earlier announced its take-over of Simpson Marine, another large Asia-Pacific dealer.

The TYSC staff at one of many recent Asia-Pacific boat shows

A ready-made integrated sales network makes sense and provides obvious advantages. Signs are, however, that the two dealerships will in future operate in different ways, in terms of focus, although both stem from long personal relationships, Mike Simpson with Sanlorenzo’s Massimo Perotti, and TYSC CEO Mark Elkington with Fountaine Pajot founder Jean-Francois Fountaine, and now with FP executives like Romain Motteau, marketing specialist Hélène De Fontainieu and Hong Kong-based Kevin Corfa.

Elkington was a prominent player in Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands when it became a boating, sales and yacht charter centre, in tandem with upmarket resorts, and he engaged the craze for catamarans and trimarans in Australia and New Zealand by launching Multihull Solutions, covering all aspects of these in-demand craft.

The flagship of Fountaine Pajot’s sailing cats, the Thira 80

The Thira 80 is billed as “your own private island, wherever you want it”, and offers a wide range of activities and options across her decks

The French meanwhile established themselves as the world’s foremost sailors of multihull vessels, from high-speed offshore racers often crewed by single-handers or sailed short-handed, to smaller family boats benignly cruising the Med and Bay of Biscay.

After Jean-Francois Fountaine, Yves Pajot, Daniel Givon and Rémi Tristan got together to form Fountaine Pajot in the 1970s, Elkington became a latter-day partner in development of these boats, acting as a hands-on adviser in the nineties and naughties during trips to the yards, which he represented, and to boat shows at La Rochelle and at the Cannes Festival de la Plaisance.

FP President Claire Fountaine says: “Little by little, our boats have combined performance with more space, more comfort and more innovation. We’ve become cruising boat specialists, always bearing in mind that you shouldn’t expect anything from the sea, but you should expect everything from the boat.”

The FP Power Cat 80 was recently released and features hundreds of fine-tuning touches, among them an amidships lounge seen here built into the sturdy hull

Elkington goes further and says that today’s catamarans are literally double the volume of cats produced a couple of decades ago. Combine that with hundreds, even thousands of innovations and equipment updates that are constantly taking place, and today’s FP Group vessels are indeed state-of-the-art.

Fountaine Pajot and Dufour both use high-tech composite injection and infusion moulding in the hulls, bulkheads, decks and flybridge, an advanced technology that allows lightness while still imparting robustness and keeping up quality. Experienced joiners then design and assemble the wooden parts that make these boats so unique.

The Fountaine Pajot Power 67 model includes a foredeck spa, and most FPs and Dufours are available in Smart Electric mode which strives to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2030

Multihull Solutions morphed into The Yacht Sales Co a few years ago, in a nod to the fact that over 25 years, expertise had evolved to sell not only multihulls but also sail and motor monohulls. It built up a strategic portfolio, that for some time included those from shipyards such as Absolute, Maritimo, Tesoro and Gulf Craft as well as additional multihull brands like Iliad Catamarans, Neel and Leen trimarans, and Cora Catamarans.

Activities spread from Australia and New Zealand to New Caledonia, Fiji and French Polynesia, Panama and the Med, and in Southeast Asia to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Iliad cats are built at two yards in China.

“For us it is business as usual,” said Elkington, who is headquartered on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, before boarding a plane to New York recently. “Fountaine Pajot has made an investment, and they want to see returns from all facets of the business.”

Targets include Fountaine Pajot and Dufour doubling their already substantial sales in Asia-Pacific in five years, he told Yacht Style, so clearly there is much work lying ahead.

The interiors of the FP Power 67 offer custom choices for every owner to create their preferred combinations of fabrics and hues

The outer decks of the FP Power 67 are generously endowed

The sales strategy of Multihull Solutions and now TYSC dealers is that they must find the best boat for each individual client, across all models and types of craft and budgets, regardless of whether boats are newly built or pre-owned. This may be open to some interpretation, but it appears to have struck a chord, and has led to a relatively high level of repeat business.

Fountaine Pajot Group says in a separate statement, reported last issue, that it is the world’s leading manufacturer of cruising yachts and catamarans. It recorded sales of €350 million for the financial year 2023-24, representing a 26.9 per cent growth on the previous year.

The Fountaine Pajot Power 80 recently unveiled and the FP Thira 80 sailing cat are the present flagships of the FP lines. Eight sailing models are the new FP 41 and 44 (the latter replacing the Elba 45), the Tanna 47, Aura 51, Samana 59, Algeria 67 and the Thira 80. Power cats start with the Code 07 and continue with the MY4.S, which is also new, MY5, MY6, Power 67 and Power 80.

The original Fountaine Pajot MY4.S

The Fountaine Pajot MY44 embodies all the advantages of multihull design and draft with plenty of space for relaxation

These vessels are suitable for anything from entry level – a first experience in what multihulls are all about – to serious around-the-world cruising in a high degree of comfort, space and safety that didn’t exist only a decade or two ago.

They are the culmination and embodiment of what earlier owners have recommended, carefully recorded in minute detail, so that latest FPs always carry an accumulated wealth of innovations and refined ideas in the completed boat.

This has led to a string of awards, as peers review what has been added to or adapted in each model, and Fountaine Pajots and Dufours are again short-listed for the next round of international trophies.

Space limitations preclude individual profiles, which can be found on the FP website, but as a sample the Thira 80 sailing cat is billed simply as “your own private island, wherever you want it”. Among its features, “two side deck lounges with retractable balconies evoke the glamour of a cruise ship, the only difference being that this flagship can sail.

“When you are on board, you are no longer a mere spectator watching the scenery flash before your eyes. You become part of the landscape, moving in harmony with the natural world, immersed in the experience.

“The yacht’s sophistication is apparent at every turn. Owners have the freedom to select furniture and palettes to suit their personal style, with upholstery options from the distinguished Pierre Frey range. Solar panels over the side lounge are transparent to provide shelter without restricting natural light”.

Most recently, FP has collaborated with Couach Catamarans to present the sleek new Veya brand of powercats – which debuted at the 2025 Miami International Boat Show in February, and is now represented by The Yacht Sales Co.

Dufour monohull sailing yachts are the leading brand in France, and in Asia became integral parts of the early Raja Muda Regatta going on to the King’s Cup in Thailand

The Dufour Yachts range starts at 37ft and extends through 41, 44, 470 and 48 to the largest 530 model. The yard was launched more than 60 years ago. Older readers will recall that the King’s Cup in Phuket, Thailand, began in 1987, and the island-hopping Raja Muda Regatta in next door Malaysia three years later in 1990.

To link these two fledgling events, Asian Boating ran a 100nm race from Langkawi to Phi Phi, where keelboat races of the King’s Cup then began. Malaysian and Singaporean yachts were welcome, as were international flag vessels, while Hong Kong sailors flew into Langkawi and hired a fleet of Dufour yachts that had been imported by a charter company based there.

They didn’t have spinnaker poles, but Dufour, after negotiations with Asian Boating, kindly agreed to provide them. The Hong Kong yachties brought their own spinnakers, sheets and guys, and so a new class of keelboats began to contest both the Asian Boating Langkawi-Phi Phi Race and the King’s Cup proper.

This included official border crossings, which was another logistics problem, and some Thai islands were then disconcertingly occupied by pirates, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a keen supporter of sailing from junior Optimists up, tried out the Dufours too, and amused himself advising his less experienced ministers how to stop a sailboat, not quite the same as applying brakes in a car.

Dufour was thus somewhat central to the early development of these two Southeast Asian regattas, and much-updated models have been racing and cruising in Asia-Pacific waters since. fountaine-pajot.com veya-yachts.com dufour-yachts.com yachtsalesco.com

Dubai-based Gulf Craft, a cornerstone participant of the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) since it began over three decades ago, launched its presence with impact last Wednesday, February 19, the first of the five days of the show’s 31st edition. It unveiled eight brand-new new models to the world and enjoyed a visit from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.

In all, the 18 vessels on display were selected across the luxury yacht and superyacht Majesty and Nomad lines – the latter built with a longer-range, explorer-yacht capability and exterior styling, the sub-50ft SilverCat power catamarans and onto the smaller Oryx line, which has been enhanced with three new models to stake its claim in the increasingly popular dayboat/weekender/adventure-boat segment.

At a press conference on day one of the show, Mohammed Alshaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft, introduced the company’s renewed vision and branding: “Built for Life,” emphasising a dedication to building vessels with durability and providing owners and others on board with quality life experiences. “As a brand deeply rooted in Emirati heritage, Gulf Craft’s presence at the Dubai International Boat Show is not just a celebration of our past, but a bold statement of our future,” he said.

“With eight new launches, our unmatched time to market sets a groundbreaking industry standard in efficiency. Our refreshed branding and ‘Built for Life’ philosophy reflect our promise to create enduring masterpieces that deliver lasting value and timeless appeal.”

Alshaali went on to announce the opening of the Gulf Craft Superyacht Service Centre in Ajman, a world-class facility capable of servicing yachts up to 600 tonnes that is scheduled to open later in 2025 – a further commitment to the company’s place in the UAE and to the industry, offering to service not only every Gulf Craft model but also superyachts built by other shipyards.

Following its initial reveal in September at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Majesty 100 Terrace, made its global debut at DIBS, with the Crown Prince of Dubai, enjoying an exclusive walkthrough. This model is so-named as it introduces a glass-fronted owner’s suite with direct access to a private enclosed foredeck terrace. The Majesty 100 Terrance brings panoramic views inside and out with oversized glazing throughout. Interiors are designed by Gulf Craft’s in-house team in collaboration with Netherlands-based Phathom Studio.

Gulf Craft also unveiled the Majesty 112 Terrace, an elegant tri-deck superyacht with six en-suite cabins and an expanded deck space and cutting-edge design – also in collaboration with Phathom Studio. In the mid-size category, the Majesty 65 made its debut at DIBS, offering a balance of performance, space, and style.

The Majesty 145, a conceptual reveal designed in collaboration with Christiano Gatto Design, built on the success of the Majesty 140 platform, complete with a plunge pool was announced as sold by Gulf Craft during DIBS.

Majesty 120, 72 and 60 were part of the 18-vessel fleet, as were five Nomad models: the Nomad 101, 95, 75, 70 and 65.

In the SilvercCat line, the two World Premieres were the SilverCat 35CC and 35CX, and 46WA and 46LUX models were also shown.

The Swift Trawler 54 is designed for long passages

“It’s a break away from the motoryacht world – this is a passagemaker,” says Robert Chaffer, Beneteau’s Motorboat Marketing Product Manager for the Gran Turismo and Swift Trawler lines, as we approach the new Swift Trawler 54, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024. “Swift Trawlers are not designed to sit in the marina, but to navigate, travel and explore.”

Viewed from the dock, the Swift Trawler 54 has a visible purposeful stance that makes the yacht appear ready to take on the waves. The profile by Pierangelo Andreani of Andreani Design is accentuated by a rising sheerline and an inverted windscreen. “Pierangelo Andreani has created a very clean and elegant profile, although the silhouette is clearly a Swift Trawler,” Chaffer says.

Filling the gap between the Swift Trawler 48 and the Grand Trawler 62, the new 54 is the third generation in this size range, predated by the Swift Trawler 50 and 52. As the latest iteration in the Swift Trawler series, it is full of thoughtfully planned features designed to be appreciated by owners.

Pierangelo Andreani handled the exterior styling

While the Swift Trawler 54 looks lovely quayside, this is a yacht conceived to be enjoyed when throwing off the bow lines. It offers long range, plentiful storage, excellent seakeeping and many upgrades from its predecessors, with many of the updates inspired by feedback from Beneteau clients.

“Every few years, I do a deep Swift Trawler customer survey,” Chaffer says. “Each model generation builds on the success of the previous one and the detailed feedback we get from our owners.”

With client permission, Beneteau can also make use of each yacht’s C-Map data, which can provide useful stats on the yacht’s frequency of usage, average speed and how far it’s travelled – all of which helps the French builder to understand the customers’ needs based on their boating habits.

Chaffer pointed out the greyish-beige fabric used on board, for instance. This seemingly simple design choice is strategic.

Outdoor spaces include the bow’s transformable sunpad-loungers

“From the survey, we know we have people who live aboard their boats, and we know that 30 per cent of our clients are dog owners,” he says, noting that the fabric was chosen for its high durability, sure to be appreciated by liveaboard owners, and for the fact that the colour hides dog hair well.

The surveys indicate that the Swift Trawler series tends to attract customers who come from sailing boats, as trawlers offer long range and ease of use. “They still want to be on the water, but they don’t want to be ‘pulling so many ropes’,” he says.

That doesn’t mean that all Swift Trawler owners are former sailors. Some clients are motorboaters who have harboured fantasies of pushing away from the shoreline for many years and are finally taking the plunge. What unites owners of the Swift Trawler series is a thirst for adventure, long-range cruising dreams and a hands-on attitude.

Beneteau believes most clients will helm their vessel themselves and just have crew on board to help with mooring lines, though there is an option for a crew cabin at the stern if a full-time crew is desired.

The yacht offers a large swim platform and spacious cockpit

Erwan Her, Beneteau’s Asia-Pacific Sales Director, explains: “The launch of the Swift Trawler 54 is an excellent opportunity to start organising expeditions around Asian countries, highlighting the option of having a crew cabin for Asian owners.”

Beneteau knows these boats will be used liberally, so they’re designed to make the most of life on the water. In the aft cockpit, for instance, the sofa is positioned to face outwards towards the stern. It’s a stark contrast from other boats where you might see the seating with its back towards the transom.

“It’s a terrace to the sea,” Chaffer says. “That’s what you’ve bought the boat for, looking at the view, not staring at your patio door.” The transom itself, made of smoked glass, allows unobstructed views of the water.

The flybridge offers a 360-degree panorama

The layout is carefully planned out to eke as much storage out of the boat as possible for those long voyages while also being as comfortable as possible for day-to-day life on board. Traffic flow and easy access were also highly considered. This prompted placing the galley amidships to port, as opposed to aft on the main deck.

As Chaffer notes, this makes it easier for someone at the helm to pop into the galley and make a tea versus running to the back of the saloon. Likewise, the flybridge is accessed via architecturally interesting internal stairs, so in just a few steps the interior and exterior helms are easily connected.

The galley placement also helps to create two separate living zones in the main deck, with an aft saloon and a forward dining area, which can convert into an additional berth when needed.

The flybridge is home to a comfortable dining area

But, as the boat is often used by two couples at most, the cabins below will usually more than suffice. There’s a full-beam owner’s cabin amidships, a VIP forward and a smaller bunk cabin to port, which could be ideal for children – or a useful storage room.

Owner and guests might sleep more soundly thanks to the ‘Silent Boat’ option, which allows for up to 10 hours of autonomy while at anchor without needing to run the generator. Adding to the yacht’s eco-friendly credentials, solar panels help top up the lithium battery bank.

The upgraded interior design is meant to elicit a like-home atmosphere. “There are all the usual practical features beloved by Swift Trawler owners, but in addition, the 54 takes on the ‘quiet luxury’ approach first seen on the flagship Grand Trawler 62,” Chaffer says.

The saloon has a spacious social area

This includes soft and illuminated décor panelling on bulkheads, high-end inset cabin doors, Berber-style carpets with acoustic underlay in cabins for noise dampening, and sprung wood slats under mattresses. There’s also a higher finish of joinery and components, such as the slat detailing and latches on wardrobe doors.

Nearly 360-degree windows in the main saloon allow light to pour in and emphasise the yacht’s light and bright colour palette.

Out on deck, nothing is overlooked, from the high-quality stainless-steel cleats and fittings to the optional snubbing winches and easy-load lazarette. Even the symmetrical side decks have fuel and water intakes to both port and starboard, so no matter which side of the yacht is tied up to a dock, it’s easy to fill up.

Social sofa seating areas around the helm

Another revelation from the survey that helped shape the new boat is that most Swift Trawler owners want simple mechanisms that are easy to maintain even when they are far from land. This ranges from windows that slide open manually to the choice of drive train.

“Our clients like the simplicity and ease of maintenance of a conventional straight shaft,” Chaffer explains. “If there’s a problem, they want to be able to fix it by themselves [or with their crew], or at least know what’s wrong with it.”

No matter where the boat travels, a marine mechanic will know how to deal with a straight shaft configuration, whereas a more ‘exotic’ drive train option could be limited to a supplier’s locations. A simple drive train gives owners more freedom to roam, which is the purpose of this kind of vessel.

The full-beam master suite is amidships

Standard power comes from a pair of 404kW (550hp) Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engines, while a slight upgrade will provide a joystick option for ease of manoeuvrability. An update from previous models, this takes advantage of recent technology.

“Now you can integrate straight shafts and the bow and stern thrusters into a joystick,” Chaffer says. “So, if you’re on a finger pontoon and the wind is blowing you off, you can push the thrusters on just enough to hold the boat safely on the dock.”

En-suite bathrooms in the VIP and master cabins are warm and bright

As this boat is built to go the distance, seakeeping is of the utmost importance. Beneteau turned to the UK firm Dixon Yacht Design, known for its sailing superyachts as well as smaller production boats. The Swift Trawler 54’s Dixon-designed ‘Fusion’ hull form was designed for efficiency and comfort, while the latest Sleipner Vector Gen 3 fins boost stability at anchor and underway.

“Interior volume, a spacious flybridge and fin stability are key features for the Asian market, and the ST54 now offers all of these,” Her concludes. “The passagemaker capabilities are the cherry on top.”

Sunreef Yachts staged the debut of the Ultima 55 at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show, a hugely successful four-day event for the shipyard, which builds catamarans in Poland and the UAE. As well as the Ultima 55, Sunreef displayed the solar-electric 80 Sunreef Power Eco powercat Athena Too and the 80 Sunreef Power Red Azalea in Dubai Harbour, the show’s venue since 2022.

“The exhibited yachts generated significant interest, leading to numerous onboard visits, robust customer engagement and confirmed sales including three units of the Ultima 66, a Sunreef 60 [sailing catamaran] and a 100 Sunreef Power,” stated Sunreef, which opened its Middle East office in Dubai in 2023.

However, the star of the Sunreef display was the Ultima 55, which had its official world premiere on the third day of the five-day show.

The Ultima 55 world premiere attracted VIP guests

Sheikh Rami bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Sheikh Ahmed bin Khalid Al Qasimi and Rashid Shaneen were among VIP guests at the evening event. Francis Lapp, founder and President of Sunreef, and son Nicolas Lapp, who spoke before the show at the Annual Dubai Boat Show Leisure Yachting Conference, were among shipyard management at the Ultima 55 unveiling.

The Ultima 55 on show was the first model to be completed at Sunreef’s new production facility in Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost of the UAE’s seven emirates. “It was a proud moment for the Sunreef UAE shipyard as the first yacht produced in Ras Al Khaimah made its debut amid widespread acclaim,” Sunreef stated.

The Ras Al Khaimah facility is currently dedicated to production of the Ultima series of powercats, which include the 44, 55, 66, 77, 88 and 111 models.

The first Ultima 55 embarked on sea trials in mid-February, just days ahead of its world premiere. The coupe-style powercat has a beam of 18ft 4in and features an open aft deck with two sunpads and fold-down sides. The lower deck can include two or three double cabins plus a single cabin for either a guest or crew.

Sunreef was founded by Francis Lapp in Poland in 2002 and has two shipyards in the north-coast city of Gdansk. It acquired its first overseas shipyard by signing a cooperation agreement with Ras Al Khaimah Maritime City and securing a 65,000sqm land reserve, beginning production in 2023 and hosting the official opening of the production facility in March 2024.
