The 53m, 499GT vessel will be part of Anthony Hsieh’s sport fishing fleet and primarily based in the Indian and Pacific oceans.

YS 5301 will be delivered to Anthony Hsieh in 2023

Damen Yachting has sold the first unit of its YS 53 series to Anthony Hsieh, who will use it for sport fishing primarily in the Indian and Pacific oceans as part of his Bad Company fleet. The 175-footer from the Dutch builder’s Yacht Support range will be delivered in 2023.

YS 5301 will have a top speed of 19 knots and be fully IMO Tier III compliant, reducing harmful emissions by 70 per cent for full range operations.

The yacht will be the hub of Hsieh’s extensive fishing programme that will incorporate fishing in relatively unchartered waters and support marine conservation projects. It will be equipped with a 15-tonne deck crane, a 43ft Release Game boat and a 32ft Blackfin that was Hsieh’s first game fishing boat purchase more than 30 years ago and has recently been repurchased and refurbished.

“No one has ever done what we’re planning to do with the 5301 and I think this will set a whole new tier of adventure for future sportsmen to explore,” said Hsieh, founder of US-based mortgage lender loanDepot.

My hope is that this ambitious programme will inspire a whole new generation of sportsmen to create their own programmes. It will be good for the sport, yachting and the fishing industries.”

Jan van Hogerwou, Damen Yachting’s Commercial Executive, worked closely with Neil Emmott from Superyacht Sales and Charter in Fort Lauderdale on behalf of Hsieh throughout the sale of YS 5301.

“This is one of the most exciting projects we have worked on. Not only is this the first of our new YS 53 range but this is also the first Yacht Support we have built that will be used exclusively as part of a sport fishing fleet and programme,” Van Hogerwou said.

“Hsieh’s unique vision and the mission he has planned for this all-new Yacht Support is very inspiring and we are looking forward to the next 12 months and getting her ready to head out with the rest of his fleet.”

The programme’s Atlantic operations are covered by the 46m YS 4508 Yacht Support, Bad Company Support. Featuring a 33ft Game boat on board, the vessel was original built and delivered by Damen Yachting in 2019 and was sold and joined the Bad Company fleet in 2021.

Introduced to the market in February, the YS 53 range features exterior and interior design, and naval architecture by Damen Yachting, and marks a shift in the builder’s Yacht Support approach. Highly flexible and customisable, the new design represents the next generation of Yacht Support vessels designed from scratch specifically for the yachting market and encompassing experience from almost 20 Yacht Support vessels built and sold over the last decade.

U-Boat Worx, a leader in commercial and private multi-passenger submarine operations, has launched its Nexus series of submersibles, depth-rated to 200m and available in two different hull-sizes for seven and eight people, or nine if two are children.

Nexus offers an immersive connection due to its fully transparent elliptical pressure hull, an increased internal volume per occupant and U-Boat Worx’ signature revolving seating arrangement.

U-Boat Worx, Nexus, Cruise Sub, submersible, Dutch

In its regular configuration, the Nexus features 900-914 litres of interior space per adult, identical to the popular Cruise Sub 7. The seating arrangement consists of six luxury full-size business-class seats for adults, with three on each side of the pilot.

The Nexus 8 has a user-configurable seat for a guest, scientist or expedition leader and can be converted to a comfortable bench that seats two children (up to the age of 12), for a total of nine occupants.

U-Boat Worx, Nexus, Cruise Sub, submersible, Dutch

“U-Boat Worx has poured its vast accumulation of experience, fresh ideas and technical developments into the Nexus to offer the most high-end subsea experience,” the company stated. “The layout gives passengers more leg room, greater ceiling height and a larger amount of personal space than found on any other submersible in the industry.”

The company also describes the Nexus as “the fastest multi-passenger submarine on the market”, with its industry-leading battery capacity powering eight thrusters. The model has also been designed for towing, often used for long-distance mobilisation.

U-Boat Worx, Nexus, Cruise Sub, submersible, Dutch

Another design achievement is the Nexus’ ability to move in any direction, as proven in the Cruise Sub series. In addition to forward, reverse, up and down, the submersible can also move laterally, which increases the submersible’s object approach and dive efficiency, as well as passenger views and pilot freedom.

To improve access, the Nexus is designed to be stable yet manoeuvrable on the surface. A 90cm freeboard, handrails, grips and steps help boarding, while both the Nexus and Cruise Subs provide enough deck space to hold all occupants. The Nexus is also equipped with the industry’s largest-diameter hatch, which further assists boarding, while an elevator is an option.

Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club recently hosted big fleets for the Tomes Cup and Nations’ Cup, back-to-back events that marked the club’s first regattas for five months.

After five months without racing due to Government anti-epidemic measures, Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club resumed its sailing calendar on April 30 with the One Global Tomes Cup, which featured 75 boats and marked the third leg of the Top Dog Trophy Series.

On an overcast day with a moderate 10-knot easterly breeze at the start of racing, the Pandora fleet was first to set off on the pursuit race at 14:00, followed by the Ruffians, Dragons and Flying Fifteen classes. Chasing them down to the projected target finish time of 16:30 were the Impala, J/80 and Etchells fleets, followed by the Sportsboats and the eight Big Boats catching up from behind.

Race Officer Gareth Williams set a start line just off Hung Hom and sent the fleet off on four laps between Tai Koo Shing and Hung Hom.

The wind weakened to 6 knots in the middle of the race, so the Race Officer decided to shorten the course at the top mark. A valiant effort by Pandora Panopae saw her hold the lead until the third lap around Tai Koo Shing before being passed by the Dragons and Vx One.

The Tomes Cup featured 75 boats

Dragon Zephyr crossed the finish line at 16:30:35 to take the win. Dragon Davinloong crossed the line almost two minutes later to take second place and Vx One Serendipity kept up her strong performance to take third.

This regatta is the third of four constituent events that make up the Top Dog Trophy Series which is designed to identify the most successful Club boat competing across various courses and conditions.

After three events, Patrick Pender’s Vx One Serendipity led the Top Dog Trophy Series by almost six points ahead of Lowell Chang’s Dragon Davinloong. This year’s Top Dog will be determined after the fourth and final event of the series, the One Global HKRNVR Memorial Vase on May 7.

NATIONS’ CUP

On May 1, the day after the Tomes Cup, RHKYC then hosted the Nations’ Cup. Despite heavy rain and unseasonably cold weather, sailors on 59 boats dressed up to represent 18 nations – or 19 if including the Metaverse.

Hong Kong was represented by 21 boats, 10 entries represented England, while Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Scotland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, USA and Wales were also represented.

The crew of Amaze sailed in full Covid-protective clothing, while Pandora Class sailing crew on board Hakuna Matata, Panopae and Windfall came in cheongsams and qipao; featuring as the main characters of the legendary Hong Kong film Rouge. Boats were split into six starts based on their RHKATI or HKPN ratings, with the two HKPN divisions starting first. Sailors were greeted with around 10 knots of easterly breeze (gusting up to 15 knots) at the Club start line.

Race Officer Bonnie Cheng sent the fleet to Junk Bay rounding TCS4 and then back to Tin Hau, upwind back to Kowloon Bay before heading back to the Club finish line. The wind was weakened at the Lei Yue Mun and Junk Bay, where the fleets parked up twice.

Mike Burrell’s Impala 1 was victorious

Mike Burrell’s Impala 1 representing Scotland was crowned top nation, while they also snagged the most important bragging rights by having the Scottish flag displayed over the Main Bar until next year’s Nations’ Cup.

“This was the perfect weather for the Scottish as all the English are too cold to sail fast,” Burrell said. “This is the second Scottish win for the Nations’ Cup and we’re nearly up to New Zealand’s standard, who have won three times, so we plan to win again next year.”

Princess S72

Princess has revealed details of its upcoming S72, the newest addition to the Plymouth builder’s sportbridge S Class, joining the S62, S66 and S78. The S72 features a resin-infused deep-V hull and twin 1,650hp or 1,800hp MAN V12 engines, reaching up to 36 knots with the latter.

Designed by the Princess Design Studio with naval architects Olesinski and Italian design house Pininfarina, the S72 features sweeping styling lines and full-length hull windows.

An illuminated Princess ‘crown’ logo on the transom guides guests aboard the electro-hydraulic teak-laid bathing platform, while the garage for a 3.9m tender has an integrated launch system and an electro-hydraulic door with a locker for two Seabobs. A separate transom door gives direct access to the twin-berth crew cabin.

On the main deck, the cockpit has an aft sun pad, modular seating, folding teak table and servery unit, while a cockpit bar connects to the galley. The saloon has a large L-shaped dining area opposite the galley, while forward is a lounge with C-shaped sofa, Princess coffee table and an elegant sideboard unit containing a 55-inch rise-and-fall UHD LED TV.

There’s companion seating with a foldout table opposite the twin-seat helm, which has a pantograph door to the side and a large opening roof above. Systems are accessed through an integrated Böning vessel monitoring system while a Naim audio system is installed throughout the saloon, master stateroom and sportbridge.

A dedicated staircase leads from the main deck to the full-beam owner’s stateroom midships, via a private lobby area in the lower companionway. There are three more en-suite guest cabins, as well as the twin cabin aft for crew or occasional guests.

The sportbridge has a large C-shaped dining area, wet bar with barbecue and L-shaped seating forward that transforms to a sunbed. Forward on the main deck, the spacious foredeck has sunbeds with adjustable headrests, which can be converted to create additional aft-facing seats, while a locker between the sunbeds can be specified as an additional cool box.

Camper & Nicholsons International selects BitPay to accept cryptocurrency payments.

Camper & Nicholsons has started accepting cryptocurrencies for payment for goods and services from BitPay, the world’s largest provider of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment services. The 240-year-old company says accepting cryptocurrency, such as for charters and yachts for sale, will enable it to attract new customers and purchases by tapping the massive crypto marketplace.

Paolo Casani, CEO of Camper & Nicholsons, said: “We decided to accept crypto to expand our market, cater to new consumer preferences and give customers more options, flexibility, and freedom.BitPay manages the entire process and makes it easy and safe to receive crypto from the customer and deposits cash into our account.”

Benefits of cryptocurrency include the reduction of high fees and an increase in payment transparency and efficiency. BitPay pioneered blockchain payment processing to enable borderless payments using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Shiba Inu (SHIB), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) and 5 US$-pegged stable coins (BUSD, DAI, GUSD, USDC and USDP).

BitPay’s business solutions eliminate transaction fraud, reduce the cost of payment processing and enable borderless payments in cryptocurrency. Using BitPay, Camper & Nicholsons receives settlement the next business day directly to its bank account in its local fiat currency such as US$ or Euros. The first Singapore Sail Grand Prix has been added to an expanded Season 3 circuit.

SailGP has added Singapore to its Season 3 calendar as the city-state plays host to Asia’s first Sail Grand Prix from January 14-15, 2023. Supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the Singapore Sail Grand Prix will be the eighth event of Season 3 and feature 10 hydrofoiling F50 catamarans racing off Parkland Green in East Coast Park.

Singapore has signed a three-year contract and increases the confirmed Season 3 events to 10, making it the biggest SailGP season to date.

Season 3 starts with the Bermuda Sail Grand Prix from May 14-15 and will also visit Chicago (US), Plymouth (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), Saint-Tropez (France), Cádiz (Spain), Dubai (UAE), Singapore, Christchurch (New Zealand) and San Francisco (US), which will host the final in May 2023. One further event in 2023 is expected to be announced.

Sir Russell Coutts, CEO SailGP, said: “From our inception, we have made it clear that our ambition is to be a truly global championship, with some of the world’s most iconic waterfront cities as our backdrop. With the confirmation of our first Asian Grand Prix, the addition of Singapore to the line-up and Season 3 now spanning four continents, our vision is becoming a reality.

“We have also found in the Singapore Tourism Board a like-minded partner who shares our commitment to a future powered by nature and recognises the elite standard of sporting excellence demonstrated by the championship. We are excited to work together over the next three years and showcase SailGP and highlight Singapore as an iconic destination.”

Teams representing Australia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and US return for Season 3, while Canada and Switzerland are new additions. Teams in Singapore will race for two podiums as the Impact League returns for Season 3, tracking the positive actions teams make in terms of sustainability and inclusivity.

As part of SailGP’s Better Sport Strategy, the Singapore Sail Grand Prix will also include female athletes as part of the league’s Women’s Pathway Program and introduce the sport to young people from diverse backgrounds through SailGP Inspire, its youth and community outreach programme.

Keith Tan, Chief Executive of Singapore Tourism Board, said: “We are excited to welcome the participants and fans of the first Sail Grand Prix in Asia. The event strengthens our calendar of sporting events and reinforces our position as a leading leisure and business destination. We support SailGP’s comprehensive strategy to reduce its overall carbon footprint, which furthers our ambition to become a top innovative sustainable urban destination.”

The Singapore Sail Grand Prix will be broadcast live in over 186 territories and across SailGP digital platforms including its App.

Asia Yachting has secured two sales of the Fountaine Pajot MY6 powercat to owners in Hong Kong soon after the arrival of a new unit to the city earlier this year.

The first unit to arrive was sold by broker Justin Luk, while the second was sold by Asia Yachting CEO Olivier Besson and broker Vinci Cheung and is expected to arrive in the city in the third quarter of the year.

Asia Yachting, which represents Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts in Hong Kong, is also anticipating the arrival of another MY6 in 2023 as well as Asia’s first Power 67, the builder’s flagship powercat.

“We’re happy with these sales as they reflect a growing interest in power catamarans around including here in Asia,” Besson said. “Fountaine Pajot has been expanding and upgrading its range of motor yachts and this has been appreciated by clients and prospects. There’s a growing momentum for powercats in the region and we’ll be announcing more units coming including another Asia first.”

The MY6 is equipped with the Volvo Penta IPS500 or IPS650 system, benefiting from joystick control, and has helm stations in the saloon and on the flybridge. The layout includes a full-beam aft galley and a large saloon on the main deck, while accommodation options include an owner’s suite occupying the port hull and two en-suite double cabins to starboard.

The 15m model was known as the MY44 before it was rebranded as MY6, with the MY40 changed to MY5. Asia Yachting also sold a new MY5 that arrived in Hong Kong last year and a pre-owned unit of the same model.
