The seventh Navetta 30 was launched at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona

Custom Line launched the seventh hull of the popular Navetta 30, which marks the builder’s fourth new superyacht since the start of the year. Featuring an exterior by Filippo Salvetti and interior design by the Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel studio, the 93ft yacht has a 24ft beam and decks with over 2m of headroom.

Tailor-made features on hull seven include a study space on the sun deck with custom-made furniture and a sky bar. Furnishings for both interior and exterior areas are by Minotti, while highlights championed by the owner include the contrast between the brushed teak – used for the furnishings and the door and window frames – and the dark parquet.

The first hull of the Navetta 30 was sold in early 2021 in Hong Kong and a second hull was sold late last year. The next Navetta 30 for Asia is scheduled to arrive in Singapore in late 2022 following a sale by local Ferretti Group dealer Hong Seh Yachting, while further hulls are scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong in 2023 and 2024, the latter sold by local dealer Starship Yachts.

First-time boat owners in Taiwan and Hainan have each bought a Dufour 56, the second-biggest model in the French builder’s range of sailing yachts.

Dufour has announced the recent arrival of a Dufour 56 to Taiwan, which will be followed by a summer delivery to Sanya, ‘China’s Hawaii’. The 56ft sailing boat, the second-biggest model in the Dufour range, is the first boat for both buyers.

“The owners in Taiwan and Sanya chose the Dufour 56 because of the simplicity of handling for a big boat and the general design, which is seen throughout the whole Dufour range,” said Kevin Corfa, Head of Asia for Dufour.

“These sales show the popularity of our big models, as we’ve also sold the 530 and 61 into Asia. I feel like Dufour is starting to catch up with more established international sailing brands.”

Sold by Taiwan Marine Services, the unit in Taiwan will be kept in Anping in the southwest city of Tainan, which is north of the boatbuilding hub of Kaohsiung. As well as cruising, the owner is expected to compete on the Dufour 56 in local and Asian regattas once border restrictions ease.

Omnia Marine, Dufour’s dealer in mainland China, sold the upcoming unit in Hainan through its Sanya office.

The La Rochelle builder’s other big models include the Dufour 530, which debuted at Boot Dusseldorf in January 2020, and the new flagship Dufour 61, which had its global debut at the Annapolis Boat Show in the US last October.

Jeanneau enters premium dayboat market with DB/43

Renowned for its sailboats up to 68ft and sub-40ft motorboats, Jeanneau has entered the high-end dayboat segment with the DB/43, the first model in a new range. By Geoffroy Langlade.

Originally scheduled to be unveiled at Boot Dusseldorf in January before the cancellation of this year’s edition, the new Jeanneau DB/43 recently made its media debut in Cannes where Yacht Style was able to test the boat.

The first model of a new premium range, the DB/43 can carry 12 passengers and is the French builder’s debut in the high-end dayboat sector popularised by the likes of Fjord, Pardo and others, marking a significant leap for the French builder.

“We want to join this segment by using the luxury codes found in the hotel, automobile and business aviation industries, because it’s a similar clientele,” explained Martin Meyer, Product Manager at Jeanneau.

The brand’s sailboats include the new flagship Jeanneau Yachts 65 while its motorboats range up to the Leader 36 and NC 37. Now the brand’s flagship motorboat, the DB/43 reunites Italy’s Garroni Design and American naval architect Michael Peters, who collaborated on the current Leader and NC models.

Peters is responsible for another superb V-shaped hull, while Camillo Garroni – renowned for his work on Prestige motor yachts, also from the Groupe Beneteau stable – cited the ‘world of automobiles’ among inspirations for the DB/43’s innovative, sporty exterior.

The inboard version with twin Volvo D6-380 engines has an overall length of 42ft 10in and a joystick control as a standard feature for ease of handling, while the outboard version features three 350hp engines.

During media sea trials in the Bay of Cannes, the inboard version proved playful, very manoeuvrable in curves and was a real pleasure to drive, reaching a top speed close to 34 knots. Several options are available including a Seakeeper stabilisation system.

On the inboard version, the main deck starts aft with a large swim platform and an aft sofa that can become a huge sunpad once the backrest is folded forward to become a headrest. The lateral space is expanded by 6ft when the fold-down bulwarks are lowered to create a three-sided beach club with a whopping wing span of 18ft 6in compared to the standard beam of 12ft 6in.

When the backrest is up, it creates a dining area with two facing sofas served by a very user-friendly wet bar forward, where the chef enjoys a view over the aft of the boat.

Twin helm seats to starboard offering supercar-like ergonomics – also a Garroni signature – and a companion sea to port are protected by a curved windshield. The curved hardtop, which Jeanneau calls the largest on the market for a boat of this size, has a forward sunroof and covers the helm and dining areas.

Midships steps on both sides lead to a foredeck featuring a large sunpad and a small seating area in the bow.

Below decks, the DB/43 offers two cabins and up to two bathrooms with a bright and modern decor based on light oak. The full-beam cabin midships has a forward-facing double bed to port and a sofa to starboard, while the forward cabin has an aft-facing bed, both rooms sharing a starboard bathroom opposite a kitchenette to port.

In an alternative layout, the forward cabin can have en-suite access to the starboard bathroom, while the midships cabin can feature both a double and a single bed, using ‘day head’ access to a second bathroom to port, in place of the kitchenette.

Celebrating the launch of hull two

Benetti has launched hull two of the Benetti Motopanfilo 37M (Review, Issue 63), a model that made its global debut at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. The shipyard collaborated with Francesco Struglia on the exterior of the 121ft Class yacht, which features an interior by Lazzarini & Pickering Architects.

The Motopanfilo 37M’s iconic design features includes a fold-down beach club with fold-out cabana bimini as well as a lofty fifth level, a cosy observation deck with panoramic views on top of the sun deck.

The second Motopanfilo 37M has been named eh²

Lukas Stratmann from Ocean Independence sold the second hull last July and attended the launch of eh² at the Benetti Shipyard in Viareggio. The yacht will be available for charter in the Mediterranean this summer.

“For me, the Benetti Motopanfilo 37M is the ultimate in simplicity, blending iconic elements of a classic 1960s heritage with decidedly 21st century thinking,” Stratmann said. “We are delighted to see eh² launch and look forward to delivery to her owner this May.”

Design teams from Italy, France, Slovenia and New Zealand collaborated to create the new First 36, a high-performance, high-volume 36ft cruiser-racer.

Beneteau has revealed the First 36, the new flagship of a seventh-generation First series also featuring the 14, 24 and 27 models released last year. The product of an international collaboration of designers, the 4.8-tonne 36-footer has a 12ft 6in beam, a 7ft 5in draft, and upwind and downwind sail areas of 80sqm (861sqft) and 180sqm (1,930sqft) respectively.

The exterior is by Italian Lorenzo Argento, who has also worked on the First Yacht 53, Oceanis Yacht 54 and upcoming Oceanis Yacht 60, while Slovenia’s Gigodesign handled the interior, both studios collaborating with teams from Beneteau and Seascape to shape the project.

Naval architecture is by France’s Sam Manuard, who also worked on all the current First and First SE designs from 14-27ft, and has experience in Mini, Class40 and IMOCA 60. New Zealand’s Pure Design & Engineering, which has also worked on IMOCA 60s as well as AC75 and TP52 designs, handled structural engineering and provided further experience of high-speed sailing yachts.

“We believe this is the first time a mainstream-production boat with full-cruising facilities, a mid-market price tag and the full support of a worldwide dealer network has been pushed this far towards true high-performance sailing,” Beneteau stated.

Beneteau, First 36, sailing, boat, yacht, 14, 24, 27, Lorenzo Argento, Seascape, Gigodesign, Sam Manuard, Pure Design & Engineering, Mini, Class40, IMOCA 60, AC75, TP52, IMOCA 60

“But what we’re really proud of is making this level of fast, fun sailing available to everyone. Because First 36 has made speed easy, we believe owners will simply sail more.”

Aiming ‘to take the drama out of going fast’, Beneteau focused on the balance of the sail plan, underwater body and steering system. The result is a yacht that can be steered with fingertip control on a hard upwind as well as a fast, planning ride downhill, according to the builder.

Beneteau, First 36, sailing, boat, yacht, 14, 24, 27, Lorenzo Argento, Seascape, Gigodesign, Sam Manuard, Pure Design & Engineering, Mini, Class40, IMOCA 60, AC75, TP52, IMOCA 60

Beneteau says the main difference from most ‘cruiser-racer’ boats is that the First 36 is ‘no longer locked in displacement speed’ due mainly to a significantly lower weight. “Going 9-11 knots instead of 5-7 knots makes sailing more fun,” the company stated. “It also makes your cruising radius bigger. You will not only enjoy sailing more with this boat but spend more time under sail.”

The entire boat is a vacuum-infused, fully-cored GRP composite structure that includes bulkheads and most interior parts. Almost all interior elements contribute to the structural strength of the boat.

Beneteau, First 36, sailing, boat, yacht, 14, 24, 27, Lorenzo Argento, Seascape, Gigodesign, Sam Manuard, Pure Design & Engineering, Mini, Class40, IMOCA 60, AC75, TP52, IMOCA 60

With the First 36 Designed to fit a variety of sailing styles including cruising with family and friends, shorthanded sailing, club racing or distance racing with a full crew, the cockpit has two distinct modes: one for racing/shorthanded sailing and one for cruising. In racing mode, the open T-cockpit has space enough to move effortlessly between work positions.

In cruising mode, the cockpit is supplied with removable boxes to lengthen the benches and a cockpit table, which transforms the cockpit to a more relaxing, lounge-like environment. Deck gear is upgraded from industry standard, both in size and quality.

Beneteau, First 36, sailing, boat, yacht, 14, 24, 27, Lorenzo Argento, Seascape, Gigodesign, Sam Manuard, Pure Design & Engineering, Mini, Class40, IMOCA 60, AC75, TP52, IMOCA 60

The living quarters below deck are a reinvented layout of the First 40.7 and offer huge volumes for a 36ft sailing yacht. Even though most of the interior is structural elements in vacuum-infused GRP, warm wood has been used for floorboards, doors, table and trim. A smooth inner liner and ambient light settings create a relaxed, homely atmosphere.

A freestanding kitchen island contains a huge fridge and can be connected to the pantry with a removable cutting board. The bathroom footprint is significantly reduced, due to a foldable sink. Both multipurpose aft cabins can sleep two people. When needed, they can also be transformed into huge storage rooms, big enough for a surfboard.

Simpson Marine has announced the sale of a new Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 60 into Taiwan, with the purchase following soon after the global announcement of the model. The 60ft cruiser is scheduled to debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival from September 6-11.

Oceanis Yacht 60 will be another new Beneteau sailing model for Taiwan, which received Asia’s first Figaro 3 and First Yacht 53 in late 2018 and mid-2020 respectively, while an Oceanis Yacht 54 was delivered late last year.

“The sale of the Oceanis Yacht 60 to Taiwan is a testament to the huge popularity of the Oceanis line and its quality construction and stylish design, as well as the active sailing scene in Taiwan and the affinity of local sailors to Beneteau brand,” Simpson Marine stated.

Emirates Team New Zealand and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron have announced Barcelona as the host venue for the 37th America’s Cup, scheduled to be held in September and October of 2024. Emirates Team New Zealand will defend the title they won last year in Auckland, beating Italy’s Luna Rossa 7-3 in the final.

Barcelona will become the second Spanish city to host the event, following Valencia in 2007 and 2010, and the first venue in the world to host both an Olympic Games and an America’s Cup. The 2024 event will include the Youth America’s Cup and, for the first time, a Women’s America’s Cup.

Roger Torrent, Catalonia Minister of Business & Labour, Grant Dalton and Damiá Calvet, President of the Port of Barcelona

Grant Dalton, CEO of Emirates Team New Zealand, said: “Barcelona really is one of the most recognised cities in the world so to host the most recognised sailing event in the world is hugely exciting. As Defender of the America’s Cup, we have always felt the responsibility to grow the event, the audience and the sport of sailing on a global scale.

“Having the event in a significant city such as Barcelona will allow us to propel the growth trajectory on the global sporting stage. The 37th America’s Cup will be nothing less than spectacular with the AC75s racing within a few hundred metres of the Barcelona beach, waterfront and race village fan-engagement zones.”

Barcelona hosted the 1992 Olympics

Barcelona, which hosted the Olympics in 1992, has existing facilities for racing, team bases, technical infrastructure and superyachts, as well as areas for the America’s Cup event village to host fans, hospitality and media. It also has an average wind range of 9-15 knots during the September and October race window.

The city’s bid involved the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, City Hall of Barcelona, Port of Barcelona, Barcelona Global’s investment agency and Barcelona & Partners, a non-profit initiative composed of more than 200 of the city’s leading institutions aiming to make Barcelona one of the world’s best cities for talent and economic activity.

The 2024 America’s Cup will feature Youth and Women’s competitions

Pere Aragonés, President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, said: “It is an historic sporting event, which has a great projection worldwide at an international level, economically and for tourism. The America’s Cup will generate a return across many platforms over years and will leave a very important legacy for Catalonia.”

Aaron Young, Commodore of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, added: “Barcelona holds a very special place in New Zealand’s sailing history, and we remember with pride the success of our 1992 Olympic Games sailing team and four medals.

“Barcelona will be a stunning venue for the America’s Cup racing and the Women’s and Youth regattas, and we look forward to defending the America’s Cup there in 2024 as we work to promote and grow the sport of sailing around the world.”

Built in Italy by Versilcraft, the upcoming Sportadventure 45 is the first of Optima Design’s series of adventure-explorer motor yachts up to 70m.

Italy’s Versilcraft is due to launch hull one of the Sportadventure 45 steel and aluminium motor yacht in June. The 45m, 499GT superyacht has a beam of 9.2m and features exterior and interior design, naval architecture and engineering by Optima Design.

The four-deck features a slightly reverse bow and can carry a helicopter on the front of the upper deck. Just below, forward on the main deck, is a garage with crane for tenders of 14ft and 23ft.

Antonio Luxardo of Optima Design said the yacht was initially meant to be 42m long, but after the model test, the client wanted to make changes that led to an extension of 3m. “The main features of this yacht are the big spaces without obstacles and big openings, like the main saloon,” said Luxardo, who co-founded Optima Design in 2004 withMichele Zignego.

The 18m-long saloon starts with a main lounge

The 18m-long saloon features floor-to-ceiling windows and starts with a social lounge featuring two large sofas and chairs, while forward is a dining table for 12 with a ‘lazy Susan’ turntable. Further forward still is a TV lounge with a 65-inch screen, while to starboard is a striking stairway leading to the upper deck.

Forward on the main deck is the full-beam VIP suite with a forward-facing bed, private dressing room, large bathroom and drop-down balcony. The lower deck has three brightly decorated en-suite guest cabins, each with a TV.

The 50sqm master suite is on the upper deck and offers striking views through huge windows and direct access to a private sunbathing area aft. It also has a large ‘his and hers’ bathroom and a dressing room, plus a private cinema with a 65-inch TV.

A dining area is forward of the main-deck lounge

Forward is the wheelhouse and an 80sqm foredeck that can feature a sofa and sun loungers, which can be moved or removed when the space is needed for a helicopter. The sun deck has a central whirlpool, a forward sofa and sun loungers.

On the aft lower deck, the 32sqm beach club has a swim platform and an interior area as well as a steam room with shower. The lower deck also features three guest cabins, the crew area and even a wine cellar for 72 bottles.

Twin 1,600hp Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines deliver a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots, while the yacht has a capacity for 66,775 litres of fuel, 18,865 litres of fresh water and 8,244 litres of grey/black water.

Sportadventure Series

Optima Design, which has experience in the marina, automotive and industrial sectors, has also created designs for 52m, 58m and 70m versions of the Sportadventure series, which blends traditional and explorer yacht designs.

“The family feeling of the entire range is like the 45m unit, but a stronger touch of modernity will be added. As a matter of fact, the first unit shows a very classic style, because the client requested so,” said Luxardo, who has over three decades of design experience.

“The lines that we initially suggested were modified with him, according to the spaces he needed, but we would like to give the other units a more contemporary appeal.

“We believe these models have an added value for the client, resulting in the best experience onboard we could offer. During the work, we tried to make the best of the spaces, focusing on the best structures, on facilities and on the design to enhance the viability of the boats.”

Luxardo says the beach club is a priority as it’s where many clients spend much of their time, while on larger models, the main deck is dominated by guest cabins and the main saloon is on the upper deck.

“These shifts allowed us to achieve two significant results: a larger lateral side deck and, more importantly, cabins with wider windows, instead of small portholes,” Luxardo said.

“When coming aboard, guests will proceed on the main deck if they want to head to their cabins and head to the upper deck if they want to access the main saloon. On the one hand, this access might seem less fluid, but on the other hand it will allow guests to enjoy the sea and the view from any cabin due to amazing views enhanced by small terraces.”
