Ferretti Group has confirmed that its display at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17) will include the world premieres of the Pershing GTX116 and Riva 82’ Diva, while the wallwhy150 will make its France debut following its global debut at this year’s Venice Boat Show.

Pershing’s GTX116 is billed as a ‘sport utility yacht’ and features an exterior and interior by Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design. Produced at the Mondolfo facility by Italy’s east coast, the 35.2m flybridge motor yacht has a beam of 7.7m, 150sqm of outdoor areas, and five guest cabins and crew quarters on the lower deck.

The first unit, Caffeine, made a public appearance at this year’s Monaco Grand Prix and features a hull painted a new shade of grey and a deckhouse in a special shade of blue. The yacht features a triple waterjet propulsion system with the upgraded option of three 2,000mhp MAN V12s, producing a top speed of 35.5 knots and a cruising speed of 29.5.

On Italy’s west coast, Riva recently launched the first 82’ Diva at its La Spezia shipyard, which features a 40sqm flybridge, which the builder has described as one of the largest for this size of yacht and is the same size as the upper deck on the GTX116.

Other Diva highlights include the beach club, which features large, drop-down bulwarks that create lateral terraces and increase the yacht’s beam from 6m to 9m.

The 25.3m model with a 6.1m beam is the new entry-level model for the brand’s Flybridge series, which includes the 90’ Argo, 102’ Corsaro Super, 110’ Dolcevita and 130’ Bellissima. Like all Riva models in the last 27 years, the 82’ Diva has been designed by Officina Italiana Design co-founders Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta with Ferretti Group.

Organised by Yacht Club de Monaco, the 10th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge offered an on-water platform for alternative-energy boats, off-water conferences and career opportunities for students.

About 50 teams representing 31 universities and 25 nations participated in the 10th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, which included a rally, sea and speed trials, conferences and a two-day job fair. There was even a visit from Team Malizia, the 60ft IMOCA skippered by Boris Herrmann, following its third-place finish in The Ocean Race.

Organised and hosted for the 10th straight year by Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), the annual event again focused on alternative energies but included a greater emphasis on lowering the impact of the entire life cycle of projects.

Bernard d’Alessandri, YCM’s General Secretary, said: “Since its launch, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge has taken on a whole new dimension. Initially dedicated to propulsion, then alternative energies, today the Challenge puts the spotlight on sustainability in general, the aim being to improve the efficiency of solutions and reduce the environmental impact of all the vessel’s components.”

Supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation as well as Credit Suisse, BMW and SBM Offshore, this year’s four-day event was also sponsored by Ferretti Group, Sanlorenzo, Lürssen, Oceanco, Monaco Marine and Palumbo SY Refit.

“The sponsors’ presence in such numbers this year sends out a strong, positive signal,” d’Alessandri said.

The first day featured the YCM E-Boat Rally, which was organised in partnership with Aqua superPower electric charging network and featured 15 CE electric boats cruising 21nm from Monaco to Ventimiglia and back. The boats could moor up at the first YCM E-Dock, which can supply power to 20 boats simultaneously.

Luisa Bonello, co-founder of Aqua superPower, said: “Monaco was the first to recognise the potential of electric propulsion and its ability to transform the yachting industry.”

Before the opening ceremony in the evening, the afternoon also featured the first of three days of Tech Talks, which gave contestants a chance to present their project to other teams.

New additions this year included the Corporate Mentoring Program, which allowed yachting companies to provide bespoke support to students on their projects, as Oceanco did for the Néréides UTT Marine team competing in the Energy Class.

Paris Baloumis, Marketing Director of the Oceanco Group, said: “We mentored them and supplied them with a fuel cell. It’s a laboratory where students are trying out different propulsion systems and innovations. It’s a great way to test them.”

Day two highlights included the Parade and YCM Speed Record, after the morning’s activities started with a conference on ‘Sustainability Transition: Challenges, engagement & adoption’. Panellists analysed the impact of using new solutions and energies across the ecosystem including R&D, design, development and building of boats, whether offshore race yachts, motorboats, pleasure craft or superyachts.

Luca Santella, Head of Product Strategy at Bluegame, which is producing a hydrogen-powered chase boat for the 37th America’s Cup, was delighted to engage with a young audience. “With their passion, energy and concern for the environment, young students will accelerate the pace of change,” he said.

The Job Forum, an initiative launched in 2019, was held over the second and third days. Tanguy Ducros, Chief Commercial Officer at Monaco Marine, said: “It’s vital we encourage young people and sustainable solutions that can be applied to yachting, which is why we’re here to support all those involved in this event.”

Antonio Palumbo from the Palumbo SY Refit yard agreed: “We believe in youngsters, particularly when it comes to sustainability, as we think they will be the main players in the future of this sector.”

This year’s event included over 80 interviews, much to the delight of the students. Iacopo, 21, from Bologna University, said: “The Job Forum is a useful initiative and it’s interesting to learn about the interview process. If I were about to graduate, I would view it as one of the main reasons for participating in the Challenge.”

Thomas Grosjean, a former contestant, had used the Job Forum to secure a position with the Hélion Group as fuel cell engineer in charge of maritime and waterway development. This year, Hélion Group participated in the Corporate Mentoring Program by helping Montreal Polytechnic and Swiss Solar Team students to integrate fuel cells into their boats. “We shared our experience and contacts, suppliers and partners,” Grosjean said.

The third day began with the fourth Hydrogen Round Table, organised by YCM with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Energy Transition Mission. Against a backdrop of regulations and advances in technologies that require time to reach market maturity, discussions included an overview of the challenges, plus short and long-term solutions to enable hydrogen to be among sustainable energy options for the future.

The afternoon included the four-hour Endurance Race and a four-hour Endurance Trial, while the fourth and final day featured the Slalom Race, Championship Race and 16nm Speed Trial, with the prize giving ceremony in the evening.

At the end of all the sea trials, Uniboat of Italy topped the Energy Class for the third year in a row, while Dutch teams Sunflare Solarteam and TU Delft Hydro Motion Team won the Solar Class and Open Sea ranking respectively.

Jérémie Lagarrigue, President of the international jury and CEO of EODev, said: “This year, we saw projects with a larger quantity of hydrogen and recycled materials, and more biomaterials and supercapacitors. For example, for the same amount of energy (equivalent to one litre of diesel), the best in the Energy Class travelled 27nm in four hours this year.”

YCM will host the third Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous from September 24-25, ahead of the Monaco Yacht Show (September 27-30), while the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge will be held from July 1-6, 2024.

Goolets, a leading global charter company, has been appointed as the Central Agent for DS Yachts (Dalmatico Super Yachts), which offers an 11-strong fleet of accordable, eco-friendly superyachts for charter in Croatia. The yachts range from 28-52m and offer between four to 19 cabins for up to 39 guests.

“These groundbreaking ‘smart vessels’ revolutionise sustainability in charter superyachts with unmatched fuel efficiency, offering an eco-conscious luxury travel experience,” Goolets stated.

The fleet is headed by the 48m Freedom, which was refurbished to provide 11 cabins – including two huge master suites – instead of 18 and was profiled in Charter in YACHT STYLE Issue 66 (click for article).

Freedom is the most expensive yacht in the fleet, chartering from €100,000 per week (inclusive of food and fuel) and accommodating over 20 guests. Traditional superyachts in Europe that accommodate up to 12 guests typically start from about €250,000 per week.

The 49m Ohana (14 cabins) and 52m Bellezza (18 cabins) both charter from €90,000, while the 49m Queen Eleganza (17 cabins), 47m Bella and 48m Riva (both 18 cabins) start from €85,000, €90,000 and €60,000 respectively.

The 48m Cristal (19 cabins) and 52m Alfa Mario (18 cabins) both charter from €90,000, while the 48m Karizma (18 cabins) starts from €60,000. The 28m motorsailer Santa Clara (four cabins) starts from €36,000, while another motorsailer, the 37m Maxita, will be ready in 2024 and charter from €61,000.

As well as huge guest capacity and low charter prices, the DS Yachts fleet is also notable for its low fuel consumption, with Goolets saying the models consume up to 70 per cent less than comparably-sized yachts. For example, Freedom consumes an average of 100 litres per hour when cruising at 8.6 knots.

Offering an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the Adriatic Sea in an environmentally friendly manner, the DS Yachts fleet managed by Goolets offers a more affordable option for larger groups along with a luxurious onboard experience, privacy, exclusivity and five-star service.

Mitja Mirtic, CEO and founder of Goolets, said: “We’re thrilled to offer our clients a new fleet of superyachts that redefine luxury yachting with their exceptional fuel efficiency.

“We firmly believe luxury should not come at the expense of our planet, so we’re committed to providing our clients with an environmentally conscious alternative that is both affordable and luxurious.”

Founded in 2005, Goolets is one of the leading luxury charter companies in Croatia and also operates in Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, Indonesia and the Caribbean.

Recognised by esteemed media outlets such as CNN, Forbes, Boat International and Yacht Style, Goolets consistently receives overwhelmingly positive reviews from satisfied clients who appreciate the exceptional service and unforgettable memories created during their charters.

Beneteau will premiere its Oceanis 37.1 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival from September 12-17 before the new sailing yacht shows at Grand Pavois La Rochelle from September 20-25.

The model then makes its country debuts in Italy at the Genoa International Boat Show (September 21-26), Spain at the Barcelona International Boat Show (October 11-15) and US at the Annapolis Sailboat Show (October 12-15).

Beneteau, Oceanis, 37.1, 38.1, Marc Lombard, Nauta Design, Cannes Yachting Festival, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, Genoa International Boat Show, Barcelona International Boat Show, Annapolis Sailboat Show

Featuring naval architecture by Marc Lombard, and deck and interior design by Italy’s Nauta Design, the Oceanis 37.1 has an overall length of 11.9m (39ft 2in) based on an 11m (36ft 1in) hull with a beam of  3.9m (12ft 10in). Part of the seventh generation of Oceanis cruisers, the 37.1 joins a six-strong series also featuring the 30.1, 34.1, 40.1, 46.1 and 51.1.

A renewal of the 38.1, which was produced for nine years, the Oceanis 37.1 was designed to offer greater volume and improved performance, while retaining the ease of use that has been a hallmark of Oceanis cruisers since they were first launched in 1986.

Beneteau, Oceanis, 37.1, 38.1, Marc Lombard, Nauta Design, Cannes Yachting Festival, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, Genoa International Boat Show, Barcelona International Boat Show, Annapolis Sailboat Show

The outdoor space is very open, with no backstay, a layout used on the Oceanis 30.1 and 34.1. The rig is tall (in-mast furling system is optional) and promises excellent performance. In the standard version with a self-tacking jib, focus has been put on making things easier, while the lively First Line version has a square-top mainsail and furling genoa for 22 per cent additional sail area.

To retain easy handling shorthanded, all the rigging is brought back to the two aft winches. Only the halyards remain grouped around the coachroof. All the instruments, including a seven-inch plotter, are at the starboard helm console.

Beneteau, Oceanis, 37.1, 38.1, Marc Lombard, Nauta Design, Cannes Yachting Festival, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, Genoa International Boat Show, Barcelona International Boat Show, Annapolis Sailboat Show

The open cockpit is over 3m long and has central table. Once the helm seats have been lifted, the wide walkway opens onto a lowered bathing platform.

Iroko, an alternative to teak, is used for the cockpit decking using a new assembly process called Iro-Deck. Each strip of plywood decking is made up of several laminated layers, which ensure a uniform colour, excellent sustainability and rule out the risk of cracks, which are frequent on solid wood decks

.

Beneteau, Oceanis, 37.1, 38.1, Marc Lombard, Nauta Design, Cannes Yachting Festival, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, Genoa International Boat Show, Barcelona International Boat Show, Annapolis Sailboat Show

The hull is flared with a rib, which maintains fluid lines below water and achieves greater power and stability. It also improves the hull rigidity, controlling the weight well, and providing greater volume inside the bow.

Beneteau says the space in the saloon is nearly as large as on a 40-footer. The lounge is to port and has plenty of room with a C-shaped sofa and a comfortable table for six. The long galley is to starboard, forward of the common bathroom.

Beneteau, Oceanis, 37.1, 38.1, Marc Lombard, Nauta Design, Cannes Yachting Festival, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, Genoa International Boat Show, Barcelona International Boat Show, Annapolis Sailboat Show

The layout includes a forward owner’s cabin, with or without en-suite bathroom, while aft are either two identical double guest cabins or one king-size double to port and a vast sail locker to starboard.

The Oceanis 37.1 is available with an electric motor with a 12kW pod and 10kWh batteries, enough for a cruising range of two hours at five knots between two charges, all emission-free and in eco-friendly silence.

Jeanneau upgrading Merry Fisher 895

The French builder will debut the Merry Fisher 895 Serie2 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival from September 12-17.

Jeanneau is set to show its new Merry Fisher 895 Serie2 at a series of shows, with its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17) on France’s south coast followed by a west-coast appearance at Grand Pavois La Rochelle (September 20-25).

The third-biggest Merry Fisher model behind the 1095 (available with Fly) and 1295 Fly, the 895 Serie2 will then be shown in Spain at the Barcelona International Boat Show (October 11-15) before making its US debut early next year at the Miami International Boat Show (February 14-18, 2024).

The Serie2 model is the new edition of the best-selling Merry Fisher 895, but is a ‘third generation’ 8m model to offer two separate cabins. The Merry Fisher 855 was launched in 2012 and was the first 8m hull to offer two separate cabins, according to Jeanneau, and was succeeded by the hugely popular 895, with 1,800 units produced since the model’s launch in 2017.

Again designed by Jeanneau with Centkowski & Denert, the 895 Serie2 has an overall length of 8.42m (27ft 7in) based on a 7.98m (26ft 2in) hull with a beam of 3m (9ft 10in), plus a shallow draft of just 0.68m (2ft 3in).

Developed by tank testing, the new hull form enables faster planing and flat cruising, starting at intermediate speeds. Offered with twin engines up to 250hp each, the 895 Serie2 has a joystick to simplify docking manoeuvres.

Features include a starboard bulwark side door for access from a quay or a dock. The aft cockpit includes J-shaped seating including a folding port bench seat, while the central table can be covered to create a large sunbathing area. A refrigerator is among options.

Jeanneau, Merry Fisher, 895, Serie2, 1095, 1295, Centkowski & Denert, Cannes Yachting Festival, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, Barcelona International Boat Show, Miami International Boat Show

Notable upgrades from the original Merry Fisher 895 include an integrated triple sunpad on the foredeck, with the head of the central pad able to fold forward and offer drinks holders, complementing those on both sides of the sunpad. The triple sunpad can even be extended to reach the forepeak.

Jeanneau describes the interior atmosphere as “soft, harmonious and refined”, notable for grey walnut woodwork, Corian countertops in the galley, and contemporary upholstery.

The port side features a sliding window, a foldable table and facing bench seats either side, with a flexible backrest allowing the forward sofa to become companion seating. The table can be lowered and covered to create a double berth. To starboard is a practical galley featuring lots of storage and a helm station with a rotating pilot seat and sliding door to the side deck.

Central stairs lead down to the shared bathroom to starboard, master cabin in the bow and a double cabin midships.

The new entry-level model for Riva’s growing Flybridge series, the 82’ Diva will have its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

Riva has launched the first 82’ Diva at its La Spezia shipyard, where the company builds all its models from 76-130ft, ranging from the 76’ Bahamas Super and 76’ Perseo Super from the Open and Sportfly series respectively to the 130’ Bellissima in the Flybridge range.

Set to premiere at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival from September 12-17, the 82’ Diva joins the builder’s Flybridge line, which also includes the 90’ Argo, 102’ Corsaro Super and 110’ Dolcevita.

Like all Riva models in the last 27 years, the 82’ Diva has been designed by Officina Italiana Design co-founders Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari and its Engineering Department.

The yacht retains the low, sporty profile of her Flybridge sisters, while new additions include higher, safer lateral gunwales with painted composite profiles instead of traditional stainless-steel handrails. Owners can choose twin 1,800hp or 1,900hp MAN V12 engines, which produce a top speed of 29 or 31 knots and a cruising speed of 26 or 27 knots, based on provisional data.

Highlights include a 40sqm flybridge, which Riva has described as one of the largest for this size of yacht. Protected by a carbon-fibre hard top with glass panels, the upper deck includes a lounge with dinette and bar in the centre, another lounge area aft and a sunbathing area forward.

Other Diva highlights include the beach club, which features large, drop-down bulwarks that create lateral terraces and increase the yacht’s beam from 6m to 9m. A garage can accommodate a 3.45m jet tender and a sea scooter, while the 35sqm aft cockpit features facing sea-view sofas.

Indoors, the saloon precedes the raised dining area, which offers panoramic views. The galley is forward and can be closed off from or open to the dining area, while also offering access to the helm station and to the foredeck by the port side deck. The interior staircase to the flybridge appears to blend into the decor due to glass walls.

The lower deck has four en-suite guest cabins including a full-beam owner’s suite, while the crew quarters include two cabins for three crew and is accessed by a dedicated walkway.

Fraser: Spring rebound in superyacht sales

As published in Issue 72, brokerage house Fraser says demand continues to outperform expectation as the total value of superyacht sales worldwide matches that of early 2022.

Yacht sales worldwide were up 24 per cent on the average for the last 14 years, as of late June, according to Fraser in its latest contribution to YACHT STYLE in Issue 72 (click for PDF of full magazine).

Number of sales, Jan-May (2012-23)

The second quarter of 2023 revealed a rebound from the slowdown witnessed in the first quarter and included some of the largest yacht sales of the year so far, with sales such as the 75m Feadship Arrow by Fraser closing in just 10 weeks. Indeed, the 60-70m size sector was about 50 per cent up on 2022.

“With the headline Monaco Yacht Show coming up, work is also wrapping up on several new-build and extensive refit deliveries that will be presented to the market in September. Watch this space, as they say,” said Mark Duncan, Fraser’s Director of Marketing & Business Development.

“The entry level to luxury yachting is still trending down compared to 2022, yet demand for charter remains strong and at the time of writing was seeing a very late and above-average level of bookings ahead of the summer season.”

The fourth Amels 60 has been launched in Vlissingen ahead of delivery to its owner this October. Featuring an exterior design by Espen Øino and naval architecture by Damen Yachting, the newest Amels 60 is distinguished by a custom interior by two collaborating studios, Studio Indigo and Pure Living.

Since being introduced in 2019, the popular Amels 60 series continues to grow, with a sixth unit already in production. While the sisterships share similar features and a proven platform, the semi-custom design offers owners the opportunity to customise the interiorsand elements of the exterior.

For the owner of the fourth Amels 60, the windows were transformed into long lines of glazing, including floor-to-ceiling windows in the main saloon.

Jan van Hogerwou, Damen Yachting’s Commercial Executive USA, said: “We’ve had a very strong reception to this new Amels design, largely because an owner can step into a new build, make some customisations and yet still benefit from a two-year delivery time.”

The 830GT superyacht offers up to six staterooms including a full-beam owner’s suite forward on the main deck. Designed as a private retreat, the suite features a folding balcony terrace and an adjoining cabin that can be used as a VIP suite, children’s room, office or gym. The remaining four guest suites are on the lower deck, while there’s also accommodation for 13 crew.

Other highlights include a beach club sauna, a Jacuzzi on the sun deck and a touch-and go helipad, and storage for a 9m tender on the foredeck, a notable feat for a yacht of this size. To lower the impact on the environment, the Amels 60 features IMO Tier III-compliant hybrid power and propulsion technology, which contributes to a transatlantic range of 4,500 miles.

Sunseeker has released a nine-model line-up for this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17), where the British builder will host guests at an exclusive VIP lounge and a Whispering Angel bar courtesy of Moët Hennessy.

The line-up of yachts is headed by a spectacular edition of the 100 Yacht in Midnight Grey and includes the new Superhawk 55 and 75 Sport Yacht, which both had their world premieres at the Boot Dusseldorf indoor show in January.

Sunseeker Superhawk 55

An open day boat design, the Superhawk 55 (click for article) is a new addition to the Poole shipyard’s Performance series and has proved a hugely popular addition to the portfolio, with the entire Willis Way facility dedicated to its production.

The Manhattan series of flybridge motor yachts will be represented by the Manhattan 55 and 68. The Predator 65 will represent the builder’s sport cruiser series, while the new 75 Sport Yacht, an upgrade of the former 74, represents the sportbridge series.

The 90 Ocean will represent the new Ocean line of wide-beam, high-volume yachts, while the Yacht series of large flybridge motor yachts will include the 76 Yacht, 88 Yacht and an eye-catching version of the 100 Yacht, a model that had its world premiere at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

Sunseeker vows that the bespoke 100 Yacht in Midnight Grey “will be the most photographed yacht in the Mediterranean this summer” and is set to catch the eye of onlookers in Cannes with an all-grey exterior, black hardtop, glimpses of stainless steel and crystal-clear glazing.

Sunseeker 100 Yacht in Midnight Grey

Sean Robertson, Sales and Marketing Director at Sunseeker International, said: The upcoming Cannes Yachting Festival will be one of the best yet. We’ve never seen so much variation in a product line-up, including two of the most highly anticipated launches from the last year. The Superhawk 55, an open yacht with a performance heart, will stand proudly next to the groundbreaking 100 Yacht.

“Joining these two exceptional yachts and having a show debut is the brand-new 75 Sport Yacht, alongside the Manhattan 55, Predator 65, Manhattan 68, 76 Yacht, 88 Yacht and 90 Ocean. Together, these yachts will all make for an exciting showcase of Sunseeker yachts.”
