Princess Yachts will stage the global debut of the Y80 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17), where it plans to display eight models. The British builder’s line-up in Vieux Port will also include the Y95, which will making its first official appearance outside the UK.

The Y95 and Y80 join the British builder’s Y Class of large flybridge motor yachts, which also includes the Y72 and Y85. The Y80’s exterior styling follows the new direction of the Y Class design language with a continuous hull window line graphic and elegant hard top. The yacht is fitted with twin 1,900hp MAN V12 engines expected to produce a top speed over 30 knots.

Three cockpit designs include a traditional C-shaped sofa with additional storage solution for two Seabobs. Options with a large glass balustrade aft comprise either a central cockpit table with freestanding furniture to seat eight guests or the builder’s new ‘infinity cockpit’ layout, first seen on the new Y85, with electrically sliding seating and table mechanism to transform the area from a relaxed sofa arrangement to an informal dining area.

The foredeck can seat up to 10 people and has a traditional forward-facing sofa with a small table facing a larger C-shaped sofa and a bigger table that can also be covered and filled in to make a large sunbathing area. The main-deck interior starts with a saloon that includes an L-shaped sofa to port facing a curved sofa to starboard, where a diagonal cabinet leads the eye to an eight-seat dining table to port, opposite the galley.

The raised helm area includes twin pilot seats in front of the day ahead, and a U-shaped sofa and a table to port. Optional partitions to the galley and wheelhouse are available, as is a helm pantograph door to the side deck.

The lower deck is accessed by port stairs forward of the dining table and has four en-suite guest cabins including a full-beam master midships with large double bed, dressing area, starboard sofa and vanity unit to port. Forward are a double to starboard and a twin to port, while the VIP is in the bow. The two-cabin crew quarters is accessed from the swim platform.

The China premiere of the Excess 11 was held in Hainan, having been sailed from Hong Kong (click for article). Held at Clearwater Bay Marina and organised by dealer Vastar Yachts, the evening event doubled as the young Groupe Beneteau brand’s debut in mainland China and was attended by local government officials, media, industry partners, yacht owners and sailors.

Yu Jiang, owner of the Excess 11, said: “I’ve always had a strong passion for sailing and this Excess 11 allows me to explore the ocean. We’ve been waiting for this boat for more than 2½ years, but she’s worth the wait.”

Guillaume Andrebe (click for Leader), Excess Sales Director for Asia Pacific, said: “We’re glad to see the first Excess 11 in China sailing beautifully in the waters of Hainan, where most of China’s yachts are registered and which acts as a barometer of the country’s yachting industry.

“The Excess 11 boasts space and comfort that a multihull can offer and brings the sailing pleasure of helming a monohull. We’re thrilled that Vastar Yachts is introducing the Excess brand to the Chinese market and glad that the owner loves this model.”

Ferretti Group is taking part in the 10th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (July 5-8), which featured Riva’s 27ft El-Iseo prototype participating in the opening day’s 21nm YCM E-Boat Rally from Monaco to Ventimiglia and back. Ferretti Group is among the event’s partners along with the likes of Lürssen, Sanlorenzo, Oceanco, Monaco Marine and Palumbo SY Refit.

El-Iseo, Riva’s first full-electric powerboat, was among new models the brand launched last year as it celebrated its 180th anniversary. The 27-footer has a traditional stern drive propulsion system and an electric motor, with a top speed limited to 40 knots and an acceleration curve “significantly better than conventional boats of the same size”, according to Ferretti Group.

Organised by Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), this year’s Monaco Energy Boat Challenge features 25 nations, 31 universities, about 50 teams and nearly 500 international students, with the event featuring conferences, talks and forums, as well as sea trials, races and speed trials.

On Thursday morning, Nino Ascone, Head of Engineering and Design at Ferretti Group, participated in the ‘Sustainability Transition: challenges, engagement & adoption’ conference.

Recently, Ferretti Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Enel X Way to develop strategic solutions and services for sustainable recreational boating in Italy. The first step in this collaboration is the installation of Enel X Way charging stations at the Group’s shipyards in Italy, starting with Sarnico on Lake Iseo.

Silent-Yachts will debut its 62 3-Deck solar-electric catamaran at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival along with the Front Deck version of the model it’s based on, the Silent 60, first launched in 2021. The 62 3-Deck has a high-performance hull shape featuring a reverse bow and longer waterline, while the long window stripe are among signature exterior details.

The Silent 62 3-Deck is based on the same platform as the 60, but is extended 2ft aft and is the builder’s first model to feature a full flybridge, offering 50sqm on the top deck instead of the 21sqm retractable flybridge on the standard 60. The 62 3-Deck flybridge is available in Open or Closed versions, with the former showing at Cannes and the latter available as a master suite.

Silent-Yachts, Silent 62, 3-deck, Cannes Yachting Festival, Open, Closed, 60, Front Deck

The flybridge includes a helm, bar, galley, dining table and seating for 10-12 people. The main deck includes a 50sqm saloon, while the hulls feature four en-suite guest cabins and a crew cabin. The optional hydraulic stern platform doubles up as a swim platform and can accommodate the electric Silent Tender 400 or another tender up to 4.2m. Additional water toys, kayaks, SUPs and e-bikes can be stowed in the bridge deck.

Offering unlimited range with no noise, fumes or vibrations, the self-sufficient yacht is fitted with 42 solar panels achieving up to 17kWp and features the same powertrain as the 60, including two 340kW e-motors, a 150 kW diesel generator and 286kWh water-cooled lithium battery.

Silent-Yachts, Silent 62, 3-deck, Cannes Yachting Festival, Open, Closed, 60, Front Deck

Powered by the sun, the 62 3-deck can cruise up to about 100 miles per day, while its operational costs are significantly lower compared to conventional motor yachts. All systems can be powered without the generator, which acts as a back-up to recharge batteries if higher speeds are required for prolonged periods or when weather conditions are unfavourable for several days.

High-tech carbon fibre is used to reduce the yacht’s overall weight, while its draft of just slightly above 1m allows it to access shallow bays with ease, making her the ideal for cruising in the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. Following a successful IPO (click for article), Ferretti Group has debuted on Euronext Milan, the Milan-based stock exchange operated by Borsa Italiana.

With a portfolio including seven yacht builders, the Italian company marked the occasion by displaying a Riva Anniversario and a photography exhibition celebrating the brand in Piazza Affari, home of the Euronext Milan headquarters.

Based on the hull of the 33ft Aquariva and finished in tribute to the historic Aquarama (1962-96), the limited-edition Anniversario was among new models launched in 2022 to celebrate the 180th anniversary of Riva, one of Ferretti Group’s brands along with Ferretti Yachts, Custom Line, CRN, Pershing, Itama and Wally.

Following its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in March 2022 (click for article), Ferretti Group’s Euronext Milan debut means the yacht builder joins an exclusive club of dual-listed companies and is the first on these two exchanges.

Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group, said: “Today we’re twice as happy. A year ago, we were in Sarnico to celebrate our listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and now we’re at Euronext Milan. We’re the first and only Group in the world – and not just in the luxury yacht industry – to achieve this double listing in Asia and Europe.

Monaco Yacht Show announces carbon-neutrality plan

SHARE

MYS organisers have shared updates on its Carbon Neutrality Transition Plan, which is focused on “collaborative efforts for a sustainable yachting event”.

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

Monaco Yacht Show organisers recently hosted a webinar exclusively for exhibitors and show suppliers to discuss its Carbon Neutrality Transition Plan. The presentation emphasised the show’s commitment to sustainability and ongoing efforts to minimise its environmental impact.

With the implementation of a comprehensive three-phase transition plan, organisers are dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality, actively involving all exhibitors and suppliers in the process. The presentation was hosted by the Monaco Yacht Show and auditing agency Nadeis, which supports the show in its sustainability initiatives.

Several topics were addressed during the presentation. Introduction to the carbon neutrality transition plan revealed that the Monaco Yacht Show aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 60 per cent by 2025 compared to 2022. This aligns with the Principality of Monaco’s low-carbon trajectory, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

A presentation of Phase One and last year’s results discussed the approach and methodology used to calculate the show’s carbon footprint. Data collection at last year’s edition was conducted from various stakeholders including visitors, exhibitors, service providers and yacht captains, with organisers stressing that “accurate data collection is crucial for improving carbon footprint estimation”.

The outlook for Phase Two and Phase Three revealed the vision for the next stages of the transition plan. The phases are focused on future measures and upcoming initiatives to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability.

Overall, the carbon footprint calculation for the Monaco Yacht Show reveals important data across three areas. Scope One represents direct emissions that the show owns or controls and the largest emission in this scope came from the refrigerants used in air-conditioning machines, amounting to 48.5 tonnes.

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

Scope Two includes indirect emissions from electricity and water consumption, which were relatively low, with usage of water amounting to 0.1 tonnes of emissions and electricity contributing 2.4 tonnes.

Scope Three covers other indirect emissions from activities not owned or controlled by MYS, such as exhibitors, suppliers, waste and transportation. The emissions in this scope were significant, with notable contributions from exhibitors, visitors, waste and service providers.

Employees contributed one tonne, which is equivalent to 190 round trips from Paris to Bordeaux by train. Visitors generated 6,608 tonnes, equivalent to 6,600 round trips from Paris to New York by air (extrapolated data).

Waste amounts to five tonnes, equivalent to 44,000 plastic cups. Service providers contribute 39 tonnes, equivalent to 741 years of power consumption of a TV (extrapolated data). Exhibitors generated 77 tonnes, equivalent to driving 620,000km in a diesel car (extrapolated data).

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

The results underscored the need for comprehensive efforts to reduce emissions in all scopes, promoting sustainable practices and environmental responsibility throughout the Monaco Yacht Show.

Organisers emphasised the importance of collaboration with partners, suppliers and customers to reduce the show’s carbon footprint and waste. It highlighted the benefits of calculating and managing the carbon footprint of events, such as demonstrating commitment to climate change and accessing new markets.

The show’s commitment to sustainability extends to both the preparation of the event and the four-day show itself. In 2022, the show introduced a Sustainability Hub, with the aim of raising awareness and promoting sustainable practices among exhibitors and visitors.

This year’s Monaco Yacht Show will be held in Port Hercule from September 27-30 and is again expected to host about 120 superyachts – including about 40 world premieres – and around 50 luxury tenders. The superyacht fleet boasts an average length of 50 metres and includes megayachts exceeding 100m. www.monacoyachtshow.com

The Academy’s aim is to grow the fleet to about 20 boats within 18 months and host a series of racing and water-born orienteering activities for students.

Sailing programmes include four two-day courses: Bronze Level: Start Sailing, Silver Level: Safe Sailing, Gold Level: Independent Sailing and Platinum Level: Perfected Sailing. There’s then a six-day Bronze to Gold Dinghy Course held over six days or three weekends.
