Galeon, whose dealers in Asia include Asiamarine, will display six yachts in the Vieux Port (‘Old Port’) at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, which will be held from September 12-17.

The Polish builder’s display in Pantiero 105 will include the 440 Fly and 560 Fly, which both had their world premieres at this year’s Miami International Boat Show in February. The display will also include the 400 Fly and 680 Fly flybridge models, the 405 HTS (hard top sedan) and the 375 GTO (grand touring outboards).

This year, the Polish builder held the world premieres of its 440 Fly and 560 Fly at the Miami show, with both models integrating the same drop-down sides seen on flybridge sisters like the 400, 500 and 640.

In the three-cabin 560, the saloon can open on both sides, to port for a waterside bar and fully to starboard, where the interior dining area can be converted into alfresco dining with sea views over the fold-down balcony.

The three-cabin 440 has a much larger saloon than the 400, with sofas on both sides, while both new Fly models feature the multi-functional cockpits, foredecks and enormous flybridges the brand is known for.

Galeon recently launched the 450 HTC (click for article), a hard top coupe model set to premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 25-29. Features include a high-low swim platform featuring integrated steps, a flip-up outdoor galley aft of the cockpit, a sliding cockpit bimini, an opening sunroof inside and three cabins below.

Prestige unveils F4 ahead of world premiere

The French builder has revealed the all-new F4, a 50-footer that launches a new series of F-Line flybridge motor yachts and is reviewed in Issue 73.

Prestige has unveiled the F4 ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17). A new fashion plate on each side of the all-new 50-footer appears as a strong brand marker of the Groupe Beneteau builder’s new generation of F-Line flybridge models, while standout features include a forward owner’s suite on the ‘semi-main deck’.

For the F4 and new F-Line generation, Prestige says it focused on innovative interior and exterior designs, high-end fittings “and an unrivalled level of fit and finish”.

Prestige, F4, Cannes Yachting Festival, F-Line, Clemence Cessou, Groupe Beneteau, Asia Yachting

Erwin Bamps, Vice President of Prestige, said: “The first model of the new generation of the F-Line represents a significant evolution in the motor yacht segment between 40-70ft, where Prestige is the market leader, bringing innovations to meet clients’ expectations while remaining true to the brand’s DNA.”

The F4 also features a completely new hull design by Michael Peters, with a more pronounced V-shape than previous generations, while a rounder, higher bow helps provide stability, efficiency and comfort in navigation.

The yacht features a fixed or hydraulic swim platform and an infinity cockpit. Two wide side decks, as well as a starboard sliding glass door in the saloon, provides access to the foredeck, which has sun loungers with adjustable backrests.

Accessible via a wide staircase from the cockpit, the flybridge can be sheltered by a bimini or a hard top, and features an outdoor galley, versatile dining area, plus sunpads and seating near the helm.

Prestige, F4, Cannes Yachting Festival, F-Line, Clemence Cessou, Groupe Beneteau, Asia Yachting

The interior starts with an ‘OceanView’ aft galley that links to both the cockpit and raised saloon, which features a J-shaped sofa and adjustable table plus a bench-seat helm to starboard. Technical systems include Groupe Beneteau’s Seanapps, which provides an easy way to monitor safety, maintenance, onboard equipment and cruising data.

Forward and down a few steps is the master suite, which features 2m (6ft 7in) of headroom, windows in the hull and ceiling, an aft-facing king-sized bed, generous wardrobes and en-suite bathroom. The forward location affords more privacy from the two guest cabins and shared living areas, and  better insulation from sound, far from the engine room and dock.

Prestige, F4, Cannes Yachting Festival, F-Line, Clemence Cessou, Groupe Beneteau, Asia Yachting

The décor draws inspiration from the colours and reflections of the French Riviera, echoed in the F4’s design, refined lines and details. Curves are used prominently to create soft lines, reminiscent of the movement of water. Materials include natural stone countertops, shaped wood, curves of

recessed lighting on the ceiling, and rattan.

The new-generation F-Line also features materials with environmentally sustainable components, such as recycled and sustainable fabrics, recycling more than 80% of the water consumed in manufacturing, and systems to purify emissions.

Prestige, F4, Cannes Yachting Festival, F-Line, Clemence Cessou, Groupe Beneteau, Asia Yachting

Clémence Cessou, Prestige Product Marketing Manager, said: “This new model seduces with its revolutionary design in its curves and its layout, while maintaining bright and comfortable interiors characterized by an easy circulation and comfortable life on board, with the intention to make the guests feel at home.

“Particular care has been taken in the selection of new materials offering more character and richness to the yacht’s interior. Every surface, every curve has been carefully sculpted to add allure and elegance.”

Following a private preview over the summer, Yacht Style includes a Review of the F4 in Issue 37, an edition focused on the year’s new models and world premieres at the autumn boat shows.

The Cannes Yachting Festival remains the foremost showcase of new models from Europe’s leading luxury yacht builders, ranging from motor yachts in the Vieux Port to sailing boats in Port Canto, monohull to multihull and fuel to electric.

The original article appears in Issue 73 (click to read)

Cannes Yachting Festival organisers are expecting more than 650 boats ranging from 5m to 55m at this year’s edition from September 12-17. The six-day event again kicks off a European autumn boat show season that includes events in Southampton, La Rochelle, Genoa, Monaco, Barcelona and Lavrio in Greece.

A major new feature of this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival is the creation of an in-water zone in the main Vieux Port (‘Old Port’) exhibition area to accommodate smaller boats from 8-12m, in response to exhibitor demand.

Vieux Port

Sylvie Ernoult, Director of the Cannes Yachting Festival, said: “Thanks to the renewed confidence of our exhibitors, this 2023 edition is looking very good, with similar forecasts to last year, which had about 600 exhibitors, more than 650 boats and 140 premieres.

“This edition will highlight small units with the creation of a new area, a marina in the heart of the Vieux Port. As the show’s DNA is to offer the most eclectic display possible, it seemed natural to us to move the smaller boats that have traditionally been displayed ashore on the Quai Max Laubeuf to a dedicated floating area.

“Once again this year, our visitors will enjoy discovering some real gems in-water and on land, boats of all sizes and types, equipped with traditional or carbon-free engines, with electric, hybrid or hydrogen power systems.”

Vieux Port

The show retains its format of showing close to 500 motor yachts in Vieux Port, while Port Canto hosts sailing monohulls and multihulls, brokerage superyachts (power and sail), and water toys.

Large yachts include the 55m Step One, a 2012 Amels 180 listed by Barnes Yachting. Isa Yachts, part of Italy’s Palumbo Superyachts group, will stage the world premiere of its Granturismo 45, UV II, before the yacht appears at the superyacht-focused Monaco Yacht Show from September 27-30.

Other large builds from Italy confirmed early included Benetti’s Oasis 40M, the 43.5m Oceanic 143 by Canados, a 42.6m Custom Line 140’ from Ferretti Group, and Baglietto’s 40.6m Dom 133.

Pershing GTX116

Italy’s Ferretti Group is again set to be one of the show’s biggest exhibitors and is hosting two of the event’s most exciting world premieres, Pershing’s GTX116 and Riva’ 82’ Diva, while Wally’s wallywhy150 will make its France debut following its global debut at this year’s Venice Boat Show.

Azimut, which traditionally exhibits beside Ferretti Group close to the main entrance of the Vieux Port, is hosting the world premiere of its Magellano 60 (see Review), the Verve 48 and the in-water premiere of the S7, which debuted indoors at Boot Dusseldorf in January.

Sister brand Benetti will show its Motopanfilo 37m and Oasis 34M along with the Oasis 40M in the Superyacht Extension (SYE). Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) will show the RJ 115 Stellamar, while Gulf Craft will host the Majesty 120 before it also appears at the Monaco Yacht Show with the new Majesty 111.

“We are thrilled to pen Silver Edge’s interior design which, together with Espen Øino’s outstanding exterior lines and the quality Silver Yachts crafts into every ship they create, will proudly stand out from the crowd for flawless details and refined materials. The 2023 edition of the Rolex TP52 World Championship brought together 10 teams from seven nations and four continents in Barcelona, Spain, to compete for the one of the most sought-after prizes in sailing.

At the end of an exacting series that demanded patience, determination and skill, the German team Platoon, led by owner/helm Harm Müller-Spreer, won its third world title, demonstrating an exceptional ability to deliver under pressure on an epic final day.

The Rolex TP52 World Championship is the highlight of the 52 Super Series, the world’s premier monohull Grand Prix racing circuit. The TP52 is a 52ft (15.85m), full-carbon-fibre racing yacht at the forefront of the sport.

Rolex has been the title sponsor of the world championship, and the official timepiece of the 52 Super Series, since 2017 as part of a proud partnership with the world of sailing stretching back six decades.

The 10 competing teams were all led by passionate owners accustomed to success in their working life and united by a love of the sport and its values.

Competitive by nature, their crews comprise the elite sailing talent required to race at this elevated level. Seamanship, teamwork and consistency are indispensable elements to shine in a competition that can be won or lost in the instant of a tactical decision or a manoeuvre.

Platoon’s veteran tactician, Vasco Vascotto, distilled what makes the difference in an evenly matched fleet: “With top-level crews, 90 per cent of the tactical calls are very similar. It is the details that makes the difference.”

Those details come from leading figures in the sailing spectrum such as Santiago Lange, coach to Ergin Imre’s Provezza team. The legendary triple Olympic medallist from Argentina is an exceptional observer.

“Above all, it is one hundred per cent teamwork,” Lange said. “Each member is an expert in their field, each has their own opinion, and it is the ability to channel this exchange of information that allows the team to grow and achieve its goals.”

Every part of the machine must work perfectly, to perform its function and ensure perfect movement. Information is the oil that guarantees the smooth functioning of each part.

The format of the Rolex TP52 World Championship is simple: in each race, teams score points according to their position on the finish line. Every race counts and team with the lowest cumulative score at the end of the series is the winner. This formula, as fair as it is ruthless, demands maximum effort and punishes the slightest error.

Five teams managed to score first places across the eight races, proving the quality of the fleet. However, it requires more than exceptional moments of brilliance to secure a world championship. Those that aspire to the overall title exhibit consistency in concentration and perseverance in the pursuit of excellence.

A lack of wind at the start of the championship compressed the scheduled programme of five days of competition into just three. When the wind arrived, it delivered competition of the highest order, testing the resilience and determination of the crews.

The eventual winner was decided on a thrilling final leg of the last race when Platoon overcame two rivals to take the title by a single point from Provezza.

Müller-Spreer was thrilled with the achievement. “It feels great,” he said. “It’s not something you can do easily. To achieve world titles in this category is a great honour.”

Vascotto stressed the importance of teamwork and ability to bounce back from mistakes. “A team makes a difference if you work as a team,” said the Platoon tactician. “You need intelligence and motivation, and at the decisive moment we had the temperament to wait for our opportunity. You cannot be afraid to lose because that’s what gives you a chance to win.”

The 2023 edition of the Rolex TP52 World Championship demonstrated many things during its course. Most significant were the exceptional quality displayed by all 10 contenders, along with the small margins between success and failure. The winning team’s defining edge was its unwavering commitment in the most difficult moments, turning adversity into triumph.
