As the Cap Camarat series celebrates 40 years since launching in 1982, the French builder has added the 10.5 Center Console version to the range.

The foredeck includes wraparound seating

Jeanneau has unveiled the Cap Camarat 10.5 CC, a Center Console version that complements the 10.5 WA Serie2 edition from the Walk Around collection.

The 10.5 is the largest model in the Center Console series, which also includes the 5.5, 6.5, 7.5 and 9.0, while the Walk Around range extends from the 5.5 to the 12.5.

The port door can be fitted with a swim ladder

Although only CGIs are available, the Cap Camarat 10.5 CC was among Jeanneau’s three world premieres at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival along with the Merry Fisher 1295 Fly and DB/43.

Designed by Patrice Sarrazin of Sarrazin Design, the yacht has an overall length of 10.9m (35ft 9in) and a 9.3m (30ft 7in) V-shaped hull by Michael Peters Yacht Design, with the option of two 300hp or 425hp outboard engines plus joystick control.

Downstairs is a simple galley and dinette

The aft cockpit has an L-shaped sofa and a table with drinks holders, while to port is a bulwark door that can be fitted with a swimming ladder.

Forward is a wet bar with grill, sink, fridge and storage, as well as a transparent live well for fishing. The central helm station has three seats and is covered by a T-top fitted with fishing rod holders aft.

Aft is a double cabin

In front of the helm, there are two forward-facing seats facing a table and an aft-facing C-shaped bench seat.

Down the stairs is a simple galley, a double cabin aft, a bathroom with separate shower, and a forward lounge area with table that can be converted into a double berth.

Easy Breezy II triumphs at fun-filled Beneteau Cup

A First 41S5 sailboat built over three decades ago won the Beneteau Cup in Hong Kong, although everyone was a winner at the action-packed weekend.

Easy Breezy II was bought by Alfred Lau and Castor Kong in April 2022

A classic Beneteau First 41S5 built over three decades ago, Easy Breezy II won top honours at this year’s Beneteau Cup Hong Kong Supported by Aon to the delight of Alfred Lau and Castor Kong, who bought the 41-footer in April this year.

And the scene could not have been more picturesque for the second annual Beneteau Cup Hong Kong, which was again organised by Simpson Marine and Beneteau Asia Pacific with the help of Aberdeen Boat Club.

After the successful first edition in May 2021, this year’s event was held at the end of October to take advantage of the city’s increasingly relaxed Covid restrictions. The decision to delay the event proved serendipitous as sailors enjoyed the lower humidity and stronger winds, and participants were able to gather in large numbers to enjoy the event.

Tiffany Koo (far right) brought her dog along for the ride

The event welcomed all Beneteau sailing boat owners, families and friends to join in for a fun-filled weekend of racing and celebrating, wining and dining.

The cast was diverse and again included Tiffany Koo, who sailed with her beloved dog, a contrast to her competitive days when she raced in world and regional championships, and match racing events. Elsewhere, there was a tight-knit crew of three friends who only just made the first race on time after enjoying Halloween festivities the night before.

“The aim is for fun racing and not only pure racing,” said Erwan Her, Beneteau Asia Pacific’s Sales Director. “Anybody who’s just cruising or who participates in some regattas from time to time can actually join without having the pressure of coming into a big race.”

Racing was held on the south of Hong Kong Island

The first day featured blue skies and plenty of wind, making the island race format ideal, especially for less experienced racers. The 16-boat race started at 11am near Round Island, south of Middle Island, and headed southeast to Castle Rock and Beaufort Island, before turning back.

Robert Cook’s First 405 Ichiban was the third of three HKPN A boats to finish in under 2 hours and won the eight-boat division on corrected time. Tonny Chung’s First 31.7 Foxzhead, last year’s overall winner, was second, ahead of line honours winner Legende II, Pascal Martin’s Oceanis 51.1.

Easy Breezy II, competing in the event for the first time, finished first in HKPN B, also with eight boats, while John Berry’s Oceanis 43 Five O One and Ming Lou’s Oceanis 40 Coral Harbour were second and third.

Saturday’s Pirates of the Caribbean-themed gala dinner

In the evening, the event celebrated Halloween with a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed gala dinner at Aberdeen Boat Club’s Middle Island clubhouse. Costumes, accessories and cold beers were handed out, as crews, organisers and sponsors unwound in a perfect setting after a long day in the sun.

Sunday proved to be another beautiful day as sailors were greeted with clear skies and even stronger winds. Although following a similar route, the format changed to a pursuit race, so handicap ratings were applied to start times, with the slowest boats first to set off.

Foxzhead tackles strong winds on the Sunday

A key change from Saturday was the wind direction. Strong sporadic headwinds made sailing more challenging, with Easy Breezy II winning the race to secure the overall title, although several boats couldn’t finish the race due to the tough conditions.

Arguably the highlight of the weekend was the scenic setting of the after-party and prize-filled awards ceremony on Lamma Island, held at The Bay beach restaurant in Mo Tat Wan. Guests and competitors participated in water sports, enjoyed the all-you-can-eat F&B, and watched the sunset while awaiting the results of the race.

On the beach in front of a packed restaurant, the delighted crew of Easy Breezy II were awarded the silver Beneteau Cup Hong Kong trophy along with a variety of lavish gifts, courtesy of the sponsors. The event debutants were surprise winners, sailing a model discontinued by Beneteau in 1992.

Boats gathered off Mo Tat Wan on Lamma Island after Sunday’s race

“We joined the Beneteau Cup just a few months after getting the boat. This is a very old boat model, but after 30 years, I think it’s still a really great boat, so Beneteau must be really good,” said co owner Alfred Lau.

In addition to having the regatta’s oldest boat, many of the young team had never sailed together before the weekend, with several of them meeting for the first time ahead of Saturday’s race.

“We’re a new team and are still recruiting members,” Lau said. “There are only three core members here, so we met the other four this weekend, but they were really great.”

Beneteau Cup, Hong Kong, sailing, regatta, Aon, Easy Breezy II, Alfred Lau, Castor Kong, Indy Hung, Tiffany Koo, Simpson Marine, Beneteau Asia Pacific, Aberdeen Boat Club, Middle Island, Richard Allen, Erwan Her, Decathlon, Fortnum & Mason, Frette, Garmin, Lantau Yacht Club, Mazu, Oliver James, Pocari Sweat, Sevenstar Yacht Transport, Supergoop, Toio, Tumi

Easy Breezy II receive the Beneteau Cup

Indy Hung, the third ‘core member’ of Easy Breezy II, added: “It was the teamwork that helped us win – selfless teamwork even under stress. We were under a lot of stress because some gear was broken, but we managed. It was very intense. There wasn’t even time to drink water.”

The Beneteau Cup Hong Kong proved again that racing and competition can be friendly, and that the event is suitable for anyone with a Beneteau sailboat – no matter how old or new.

Richard Allen, Group General Manager of Simpson Marine, said: “Even with an older boat, with the rating system we have, it shows you can still be competitive and don’t need to have the newest boat. We like that. Even though we have newer boats from one year ago, the winning boat is over 30 years old and that’s great for Beneteau. It shows the strength and quality of their brand.”

Beneteau Cup, Hong Kong, sailing, regatta, Aon, Easy Breezy II, Alfred Lau, Castor Kong, Indy Hung, Tiffany Koo, Simpson Marine, Beneteau Asia Pacific, Aberdeen Boat Club, Middle Island, Richard Allen, Erwan Her, Decathlon, Fortnum & Mason, Frette, Garmin, Lantau Yacht Club, Mazu, Oliver James, Pocari Sweat, Sevenstar Yacht Transport, Supergoop, Toio, Tumi

Sunday’s prizegiving on the beach in front of The Bay restaurant

Another highlight was the generous contributions of partners and sponsors, highlighting the support for the event and its initiatives in Hong Kong.

Erwan Her of Beneteau said: “We had loads of sponsors supporting us and the prizes and awards increased a lot. I don’t think there are many regattas in the world where you have so many prizes like this. It might be one of the best!

“That’s one of the event’s aims. We want everybody to be happy, so it doesn’t matter if you win or not, we’ll find a way to give you a prize because we want to reward all teams for contributing to the Beneteau Cup.”

The 55 Open Sunreef Power develops upon the 40

Sunreef Yachts has presented the dynamic 55 Open Sunreef Power, which develops upon the 40 Open Sunreef Power that had its world premiere at the Dubai International Boat Show in March 2018 before appearing at the Singapore Yacht Show the following month.

The Polish builder announced the 55 Open Sunreef Power at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, during which it also celebrated the opening of a new office in the city.

The 55 has a high-low platform and fold-out sides

Featuring a full walkaround design, the yacht has a hull length of just over 50ft and an overall length of about 55ft with the high-low swim platform, which can carry a tender and combines with the fold-down bulwark platforms on each side to create a huge waterside beach club.

There are two large islands sunpads on each side of the aft deck, which also cover crew access to the hulls.

The 55 features a full walkaround design

In contrast to the 40 Open Sunreef Power, the 55 has a much larger hard top in comparison, with a 20ft-long roof covering L-shaped sofas and tables on each side, sliding saloon windows, the galley, stairs on each side, and central helm station. The superstructure extends to the foredeck, which includes an integrated sunbathing area.

Accommodation options in the hulls include four guest cabins and two shared bathrooms, with the larger VIP suites in the bow, while there’s also a three-cabin version with the master occupying the port hull.

Following the recent world premieres of the 56 Fly and flagship Navetta 75, the inland Italian builder is rolling out its new signature features on the upcoming 52 Fly.

Absolute 52 Fly

Absolute is developing the new 52 Fly, which includes a lot of the brand’s signature features introduced on its new generation of flybridge yachts, led by the 60 Fly released last year and the 56 Fly that premiered at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

Absolute Yachts, 52 Fly, 56 Fly, 60 Fly, Cannes Yachting Festival, Absolute Marine, hard top, solar panels, modular furniture, infinity cockpit Modular furniture on the aft flybridge

The new 52-footer replicates features on the larger models such as infinity aft decks in both the cockpit and flybridge, both using Absolute’s signature modular furniture, while the lower deck includes a full-beam master cabin in the bow, two guest doubles midships, and a versatile crew cabin.

Facing sofas and sunpads on the foredeck

Other signatures include optional solar panels on the hard top, which can provide enough energy to run multiple appliances at anchor, negating the need for a generator and allowing guests to enjoy silence while in a bay.

The outdoor areas include a flybridge with twin helm seats, a sunbathing area, wet bar and modular furniture aft, while the foredeck features a forward-facing sofa, table and triple sunbed with adjustable backrests.

The aft cockpit with glass balustrade

The aft cockpit has a clear glass balustrade and chairs that can be arranged as two facing sofas, both with open views of the sea.

A three-leaf sliding door saloon leads into the saloon, which has windows all around including wide opening ones on both sides, which are electrically controlled and slide up and down. Opening the saloon windows provides natural ventilation, reducing the need for air-conditioning.

Forward view of galley and saloon

Aft is a full-beam galley with a full-height refrigerator, a separate freezer and a spacious pantry, unusual in this size of yacht. It’s one step up to a saloon featuring a C-shaped sofa and a table to port, facing a sofa to starboard.

Aft view of the saloon

The saloon ceiling features a circular motif with recessed LED lighting, while panelling and furniture are in light-coloured natural timber, with leather trim. The main helm to starboard has a side-deck door and multiple MFDs to monitor and control all on-board systems.

Master suite forward

On the lower deck, the full-beam master suite in the bow is generously sized, with plenty of room around a large double bed, high ceilings, ample storage and very large windows providing sea views and natural light.

VIP suite midships

The VIP cabin midships is comparable to a master cabin, while the guest cabin has an electrical system, fitted as standard, for easy transformation from twin berths to double bed. There’s also a practical crew cabin with access from the stern platform for complete privacy.

Absolute is represented in Hong Kong by Absolute Marine, which delivered Asia’s first 56 Fly earlier this year, ahead of the model’s world premiere at Cannes.

Gulf Craft hosted the US premiere of the Majesty 120 at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 26-30, where Rocket One exhibited at the Face Dock in Bahia Mar Marina.

The 120, whose features include an energy-saving heat-recovery smart system, had its world premiere at the Dubai International Boat Show in March and European debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, also appearing at the Monaco Yacht Show later that month.

There have been multiple sales of the Majesty 120 in the US, which has remained a key market for Gulf Craft since it exhibited at the Fort Lauderdale show for the first time in 2019, when it displayed the Majesty 140.

Mohammed Alshaali, co-founder and Chairman of Gulf Craft, said: “We’re bringing luxurious bespoke standards and skilled craftsmanship from the UAE to the US, an important market for us. In 2021 we saw a significant uplift in sales, which is a tribute to the unique advantages of our yachts and our position as the world’s leader in composite hull production.

“Compared to traditional steel vessels, our composite hulls are lightweight, offer competitive fuel economy and allow navigation of shallow waters such as around Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Our yachts are also built to withstand exceptional levels of heat and humidity, which are common to both the UAE and the US.”

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the UAE builder has announced the development of two new models: the Majesty 111, which will debut in 2023, and Majesty 160, the yard’s second-biggest superyacht to date. However, its flagship remains the Majesty 175, which it delivered last year.

“We are proud of our ambition to push the boundaries of possibility and the jewel in our crown is the Majesty 175,” Alshaali said. “As the world’s largest composite-built production superyacht, it has reinforced our position as an innovator in the use of composites.”
