Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific delivered eight luxury yachts to its clients over a busy European summer season for the Italian shipyard and its APAC representative. The deliveries took place across Sanlorenzo’s shipyards in La Spezia, Ameglia, and Viareggio, with many of the fleet enjoying cruising in Europe before heading to Asia.

The list of yachts handed over included two units of the SX88, the pioneer of Sanlorenzo’s crossover series, while an SX100 was also among the eight deliveries.

The other five deliveries were all different models and included Asia’s first SD90, part of a semi-displacement series that includes the tri-deck SD118, another of Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific’s summer deliveries.

Sanlorenzo’s expansive planing range was represented by the handover of an SL106A, the second-biggest model in a line modernised by a pioneering asymmetric layout. Other deliveries included an SP110 coupe, which is the first model from the shipyard’s new Smart Performance range and boasts a top speed of over 40 knots.

The biggest yacht handed over was an Alloy, the 44.5m aluminium superyacht that’s part of Sanlorenzo’s Superyacht range.

Nick Stratton, Vice President Sales at Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific, said: “We are delighted to have successfully delivered these magnificent yachts to our clients in time to enjoy the European summer in the Mediterranean, following which they will relocate to various locations in Asia. Each yacht represents the pinnacle of luxury and innovation, and we are proud to see them set sail.”

Stratton also commented on the new markets covered by Simpson Marine as part of Sanlorenzo’s purchase of the dealership earlier this year, leading to the dealership’s coverage across Asia-Pacific.

“We see immense potential in all our APAC markets,” Stratton said. “Our tailored approach to yacht design and craftsmanship resonates with clients seeking bespoke solutions and our full range of yachts has something to offer all needs. With our presence now also covering Vietnam and Australia, we are well-positioned to meet their needs and continue our growth in these dynamic markets.”

Since 2015, when Simpson Marine began representing the brand, over 70 Sanlorenzo yachts have been commissioned in Asia-Pacific. Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific is working on further deliveries and the continued growth of its presence in the regional market, with exclusive activations planned for Australia, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific notes that Sanlorenzo brands brokerage interest is also strong in the region, with a 2019 Sanlorenzo SX88 very recently sold in Singapore, and adds that it currently has several major brokerage deals pending in and out of Asia.

Sunreef Yachts and Brabus Marine are partnering to offer customised, upgraded versions of the Polish builder’s catamarans. Sunreef, which has two production facilities in northern Poland and a new site in the UAE, is initially teaming up with Brabus to offer a unique line of luxury motor catamarans based on the Ultima 55, set for release in 2025.

The first in a line of Ultima powercats, the Ultima 55 is being produced at Sunreef’s new facility in Ras Al Khaimah, an hour from Dubai, where Sunreef has its Middle East office.

Francis Lapp, Sunreef’s founder and President, and Constantin Buschmann, owner and CEO of Brabus, announced the companies’ partnership at the Monaco Yacht Club during this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

The glamorous evening attracted VIP guests from all over the world and included Sunreef Ambassadors Rafael Nadal, Fernando Alonso and Mike Horn, who earlier in the week was announced as one of three Bowsprit winners at The Honours.

Lapp, who spends much of his time in the UAE, said: “Partnering with Brabus allows us to explore a new, entirely unique level of bespoke elegance for our catamarans. By combining our experience in designing luxurious, custom-built multihulls with Brabus’ unmistakable signature style, we are creating products that will redefine luxury on the water.”

Based in Germany and founded in 1997, Brabus made its name as an aftermarket tuning company, offering highly bespoke versions of luxury cars produced by the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Porsche. Brabus moved into the yacht sector when it partnered with Axopar to offer upgraded versions of the Finnish builder’s popular adventure boats, with the Sunreef partnership now building on the tuning company’s experience in the marine sector.

Buschmann said: “As we continue the Brabus Marine journey with our award-winning Shadow range in partnership with Axopar, we’re excited to be expanding our portfolio into the world of high-end luxury catamarans together with Sunreef Yachts. To us, it’s all about setting new standards, by challenging our know-how and design DNA with a brand-new range of luxury products defined by what both brands do best.”

As well as the upcoming versions of the Ultima 55, Sunreef and Brabus stated they “are committed to expanding this collaboration, with further models to be announced in the near future”.

Benetti’s B.Yond 57M

At the Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, on the sidelines of the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, Benetti presented its new developments that encapsulate the essence of the shipyard, which it calls “The House of Yachting”.

CEO Marco Valle underscored how the targets achieved by the group in 2023-2024, with revenues of €1.3 billion and a backlog of €2.6 billion, have laid the groundwork for forecast growth of 15 per cent in the coming yachting season. This goal is backed by an investment plan worth €160 million to support the company’s strategic priorities for the three-year period 2025-2027.

Benetti’s B.Loft project brings a contemporary residential feel to a megayacht

The group has achieved this important milestone with the help of the excellent results reported by Benetti, which has an order backlog of 58 units totalling 30,900GT, according to Benetti sales director Daniela Petrozzi.

Sustainable lifestyle concept

The shipyard develops the brand’s innovation around the concept of sustainable lifestyle, with an approach that combines future-forward research with the implementation of the best and most-effective solutions currently available.

It has introduced state-of-the-art electrification systems that reduce fuel consumption by up to 20 per cent, and says it offers the widest hybrid range on the market, with 90 per cent of models available in hybrid or diesel-electric versions.

There is also a sharp focus on reducing energy consumption. Power management designed to optimise the electrical loads on board, heat recovery systems and the use of direct expansion air-conditioning technology reduce service consumption on board by up to 40 per cent.

The group has reached an agreement with international carbon-neutral efficiency company ENI, and the resulting use of HVO biofuel for all shipyard operations has reduced CO2 emissions by 1,000 tonnes per year.  HVO, which is compatible with the entire Benetti range, can decrease well-to-wake emissions by up to 90 per cent when used as the on-board fuel.

In addition, the shipyard fits selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems as standard for yachts under 500GT, even though this is not required by law in this category. Benetti estimates this choice reduces NOx emissions by 2.5 tonnes per yacht per year, as well as allowing its yachts to be used in marine protected areas, according to Benetti General Manager Massimo Casoni.

Also during the Monaco Yacht Show, Benetti Head of Product, Sebastiano Vida and the designers involved presented the new B.Yond 40M and 57M, Motopanfilo 45M, and B.Loft projects.

B.Yond, the voyager line

Benetti renews the B.Yond line, becoming a very green family of yachts in the category, which is evolving thanks to the collaboration with Igor Lobanov for the exterior styling and Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture for the interior design, with two different concepts for the identities of the new 40M and 57M.

B.Yond line models share an ‘explorer feeling’ while retaining the classic elegance of Benetti yachts, where the white hull contrasts with a grey superstructure to project both strength and elegance. The range is designed for leisurely voyages of exploration in unspoilt areas, made possible by the advanced technology installed on board by Benetti and the hybrid-electric system, which reduce impact on the environment.

This beach club configuration features in one of three options for the B.Yond 57M

B.Yond 57M

Designed for a range of experiences on long cruises, the B.Yond 57M has three stern configurations: the Beach version with a generous outdoor area and pool, the Air version with a touch-and-go helipad and the possibility of transforming this space into a veranda, and the Water version designed to stow marine exploration equipment.

B.Yond 40M

This model extends across four decks, each designed for a specific function, with various possible configurations. The areas for socialising occupy about 150sqm and are surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glazing that floods the interiors with light.

Aboard this 40m yacht, the main saloon has a palette of pale colours to select from, including a bleached white oak with a brushed finish that adds depth, character and durability.

With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the Motopanfilo 45M is a modern revisiting of the Navetta concept in collaboration with RWD for the exterior styling and Lazzarini & Pickering Architetti for the concept behind the interiors and exterior decks to create an experience of conviviality and contact with nature.

Abeking & Rasmussen, the renowned German shipyard, is celebrating an impressive 117 years in the maritime industry. The milestone is particularly noteworthy as many of the shipyard’s vessels continue to grace the world’s oceans – one, Jagare, launched in 1989 has made a welcome return home to the shipyard in time for the occasion.

Following trips to the Arctic and Antarctic, family-owned Jagare returns home for the winter

Founded in 1907 by mechanical engineer Georg Abeking and boatbuilder Henry Rasmussen, the Abeking & Rasmussen (A&R) shipyard began by crafting sailing yachts in Lemwerder, Germany. Their reputation grew steadily and globally. Early, somewhat modest, beginnings building small sailboats and wooden minehunters, evolved into a global leader in yacht and shipbuilding.

Now with updated production hangars, a new dock, and workshops that process wood, steel and aluminium at the shipyard, A&R is well able to launch yachts of up to 125m. Today it also produces luxury motoryachts like the 118m Liva, state-of-the-art multipurpose vessels and government-commissioned minehunters.

One of its most remarkable creations, the 36.5m sailing yacht Jagare, was built at the original yard and returned to it for the anniversary. Built in 1981, the 221-gross-tonne vessel designed by the late Dutch naval architect Willem de Vries Lentsch Jr and was one of the largest private yachts of its time.

Originally commissioned by a family man, the all-aluminum sailing superyacht is now helmed by his daughter, who was just 12 when construction began. Jagare has since completed eight circumnavigations under the same family’s ownership and the vessel has explored both Arctic and Antarctic waters.

With a 26,116-litre fuel capacity and a top speed of 12 knots, Jagare exemplifies the yard’s commitment to enduring quality. A&R yachts are rarely sold publicly and more often, like Jagare, stay within families or quietly pass into the hands of trusted new owners to sail the world’s oceans and provide decades of joy and dedicated service.

Nuclear power is the new wave in yachting

Nuclear power is the new wave in yachting

SHARE

Nuclear power is emerging as a potential game-changer for yacht operations. A recent report by Lloyd’s Register, unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show, suggests that the innovative technology could usher in a new era of sustainable, high-performance yachting.

The report, aptly entitled Fuel for Thought: Nuclear for Yachts by the 260-year-old London-based marine industry advisors, paints an exciting picture of how nuclear propulsion could revolutionise marine travel. With its ability to generate higher power outputs, nuclear energy promises extended range, increased speeds, and superior overall performance for yachts.

Engel-Jan de Boer, Global Yacht Segment Director at Lloyd’s Register, emphasised the transformative potential of this technology. “Nuclear energy offers the potential to be as transformational to shipping as the shift from wood to iron or from sail to steam,” he said. “Unlike alternative fuels that might serve as direct replacements for traditional oil-fired systems, nuclear power represents a fundamental shift that could redefine luxury yachting.”

The concept of nuclear-powered vessels is not entirely new. With over 70 years of successful deployment in naval applications, nuclear reactors at sea have a proven track record. This experience, coupled with ongoing advancements in technology, is paving the way for broader adoption in the yachting industry.

One of the most exciting developments in this field is the active pursuit of small modular reactors (SMRs) and micro-reactors by governments and private companies worldwide. These reactors are designed with safety, efficiency, and modularity in mind, making them particularly well-suited for maritime applications.

The benefits of nuclear propulsion for the yacht industry are compelling and many. Nuclear-powered yachts offer the capability for extended voyages, operating for prolonged periods without the need for refuelling, which makes long expeditions more feasible and opens up new possibilities for exploration.

These vessels also gain enhanced performance characteristics, as nuclear reactors generate substantial power, leading to higher speeds and improved overall yacht performance. Perhaps most notably in our current climate-conscious era, nuclear propulsion produces zero greenhouse gases during operation.

However, the path to widespread adoption of nuclear-powered yachts is not without its challenges, and the industry must address several critical issues before this technology can become a reality. Foremost, is the implementation of robust safety measures to ensure the secure operation of nuclear reactors in a maritime environment.

This goes hand-in-hand with the need to establish rigorous regulations governing the use of nuclear propulsion in private vessels, a process that will require collaboration between industry leaders, maritime authorities, and nuclear regulatory bodies.

The industry must also develop effective strategies for handling and disposing of spent nuclear fuel, addressing the entire lifecycle of these power sources. Finally, overcoming public concerns about nuclear safety will be a hurdle, requiring transparent communication, education, and demonstration of the technology’s safety and benefits to gain acceptance.

Despite these challenges, nuclear-powered yachts are an intriguing prospect for the yachting industry.

As research and development in nuclear science continue to advance, the yachting world may be on the cusp of a new era. The vision of sleek, powerful yachts cruising the world’s oceans, powered by the boundless energy of the atom, could soon become a reality.

The Italian shipyard announces construction underway at the Ferretti Group Superyachts Yard of the largest flagship superyacht in the legendary brand’s history.

The Riva 70 Metri will feature cutting-edge sustainable technology, including hybrid propulsion

The Riva 70 Metri is, at a length overall of 70m, to become the largest flagship superyacht in Riva’s history and the culmination of more than 180 years of challenges and successes for the shipyard that brought elegance to modern yachting. The superyacht stands out for its state-of-the-art technology solutions, refined design and peerless comfort.

With innovative volumes, elegant lines, a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, Riva 70 Metri combines excellent performance and environmental sustainability in the form of latest-generation hybrid propulsion, heat recovery technology and a PTO/PTI system, setting a cutting-edge standard for sustainable yacht making.

Great emphasis was also placed on on-board acoustic comfort, thanks to the use of innovative solutions for reducing noise and vibration levels and improving the stabilisation system.

The owner, a loyal Riva customer and a great fan of the brand, worked with the design team to turn a dream into reality and create a superyacht that, like all Rivas in recent years, is the result of collaboration between Officina Italiana Design, the firm founded by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

“Riva 70 Metri promises to set the bar for thrilling experiences in the years to come,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. She’s a superyacht of timeless beauty that will take the magnificent universe of Riva’s style features and detailing into a new dimension, combining it with cutting-edge navigation and environmental sustainability technology. A manifesto of style, design and innovation, this spectacular flagship will lead the fantastic fleet of new Riva masterpieces with majestic elegance.”

“The sophisticated and extremely selective owner had a very clear idea: to build a timeless boat with classic lines and a green spirit for cruising in a style that fully respects the sea,” commented Micheli, Chief Designer, and Beretta, CEO at Officina Italiana Design jointly. “He had been impressed by the Riva 50 Metri and dreamed of a design inspired by it, one dominated by aesthetics and beyond the fashions and market logic that so often influence the creation of a new product.

“So we embraced this challenge with enthusiasm and conviction, because these values represent our firm’s DNA and form part of our design philosophy.”

Riva 70 Metri will be built at the Riva Superyachts Division in Ancona, the state-of-the-art shipyard occupying almost 80,000 sqm where all yachts from 50m to 90m are built. Ancona is home to the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard, where steel and aluminium superyachts are built for the Riva, Pershing, CRN and Custom Line brands.

Since Italian Yacht builder Sanlorenzo acquired Hong Kong headquartered Simpson Marine from founder Mike Simpson in March this year, the 40-year-old yacht distributor and services company has been very busy in the Asia-Pacific region.

Simpson Marine recently unveiled a strategic expansion into Vietnam through a partnership with yacht brokerage O2H2O Vietnam and SS&Sons Group, which represents prominent luxury brands and will become the official partner for Sanlorenzo, Bluegame and Fairline in Vietnam.

The Sanlorenzo 50Steel, a new superyacht model for the yard, launched in Italy in May this year

This expansion comes as leisure-boating and elevated lifestyle gain traction in Vietnam. Key industry players are beginning to invest in local operations and marinas in important locations, including Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang. Opportunities for new marinas to be built could also position Vietnam as a popular yachting destination in Asia.

Vietnam’s marine scenery holds much potential for an emerging boating lifestyle

With a coastline spanning 3,260km, Vietnam boasts 2,800 islands. Picturesque bays, vibrant culture, and famous destinations like Ha Long Bay are ripe with cruising potential. Simpson Marine is driving growth in the country by working with local marine-industry organisations.

Reducing import taxes and complex registrations could speed growth and allow more Vietnamese to enjoy the boating lifestyle, the company surmises, echoing the progress made in neighbouring Thailand and Hong Kong.

Simpson Marine will open an office in Ho Chi Minh later this year

“Together with O2H2O Vietnam, we will unlock the full potential of Vietnam’s yachting industry, leveraging on their local expertise, experience and passion for bespoke luxury and yachting,” said Simpson Marine’s Chief Operating Officer, Richard Allen.

The expansion will see a new office open in Ho Chi Minh City’s business district this autumn that will serve as a hub for yacht sales, charter services and customer support. O2H2O’s founding partner, Alexandre Heng, said he shared a common vision with Simpson Marine to spread yachting culture to Vietnam’s beautiful coastline “by offering the best world-class yacht brands and nautical lifestyle experience.”

The Vietnam announcement furthers Simpson Marine’s plans for growth into emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific under its ownership by Sanlorenzo. Sanlorenzo Asia, a division of Simpson Marine, is making broader waves in the region with a significant expansion of its operations.

The company has announced the transformation from Sanlorenzo Asia into Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific, as it ventures deep into the Australian and New Zealand markets. At the heart of this expansion is a new sales office at Jones Bay Wharf in Sydney, Australia.

This strategic location positions Sanlorenzo well to tap into Australia’s burgeoning superyacht market, which has been riding a wave of growth fuelled by economic prosperity and a passion for maritime luxury. Offering an ideal backdrop for yachting are the unparalleled cruising grounds of the Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays, and the Kimberley region.

Joachim Howard, newly appointed as Simpson Marine Australia Country Manager, will spearhead the company’s efforts in the region. Howard’s expertise in new and brokerage yacht sales, charter and services is expected to be crucial in navigating the unique preferences of Australian and New Zealand yacht enthusiasts.

“We see immense potential in Australia as the Sanlorenzo Pacific hub,” added Nick Stratton, who is Chief Sales Officer of Simpson Marine Group. “Our tailored approach to yacht design and craftsmanship resonates with clients seeking bespoke solutions.”

Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific, a division of Simpson Marine, will make a splash in Sydney with Australia’s first Bluegame BGX63

Sanlorenzo is set to make a splash with the arrival of two notable vessels in Sydney: Australia’s first Bluegame BGX63 and the Sanlorenzo SD90. These luxury craft will be officially unveiled alongside the grand opening of the Sanlorenzo Australia office later this year. Sanlorenzo’s local team officially launched the market expansion at the Sydney International Boat Show 2024 (August 1-4).

Additionally, a major activation featuring Sanlorenzo and Bluegame yachts is planned for later in the year, offering clients a firsthand experience of the Sanlorenzo Group vessels.

Meanwhile, earlier this summer Simpson Marine became the exclusive dealer for Axopar Boats in Hong Kong and Mainland China. This expansion follows Simpson Marine’s recent appointment as Axopar’s official dealer in Indonesia.

The partnership capitalises on Hong Kong’s status as Asia’s yachting hub, boasting a 465km coastline and 13,000 registered pleasure boats. Allen expressed enthusiasm: “In Hong Kong, there are already a few Axopar boats in operation, including my own Axopar 37 Sun Top. We will build upon the success of ‘day boating’ here to drive interest and sales for Axopar in Hong Kong.”

Allen said Simpson Marine has seen rapid growth in leisure boating in China since opening an office in Sanya 12 years ago. Today, hundreds of boats go out daily in Sanya for short day trips, he added.

Simpson Marine Group COO Richard Allen owns an Axopar 37 Sun Top

Axopar’s range of 22-45ft adventure boats align well with the region’s boating culture. Known for high build quality, easy maintenance and fuel efficiency, the Finnish brand offers versatile layouts ideal for Hong Kong and China’s diverse waterways and allows exploration of coastal nooks and access to shallow water common in the region.

The high-performance vessels are seen as an ideal entry point for newcomers to yachting, and the brand’s Axopar 28 was named Best Motor Sport Boat at the 27th China (Shanghai) International Boat Show 2024. The Axopar fleet will be available in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Sanya this year.

The Axopar Hong Kong and Mainland China dealership, and in Indonesia, strengthen Simpson Marine’s position in the luxury yacht industry in the region by expanding its yachts offered across budgets and lifestyles.

Monaco Yacht Show 2024 saw the launch of GX Superyachts, a groundbreaking range of 24-56m aluminium yachts marrying opulence with environmental responsibility. The first 42m model, GX42, is under construction.

Greenline Yachts has unveiled stunning superyachts that range from 24-56m in length overall. The vessels incorporate hybrid technology and solar panels, significantly reducing CO2 emissions by 60 per cent. The innovative designs, featuring either Coupé or RPH flybridge styles, are the work of renowned designer Marco Casali.

Greenline Yachts, known for their expertise in hybrid technology, is the driving force behind this new brand of eco-friendly superyachts.

The RPH version offers a large flybridge and 353 gross tonnes of volume

Born from Greenline Yachts’ 15-year expertise in efficient hybrid vessels, GX Superyachts applies this know-how to the superyacht sector by creating a line-up of custom yachts offering alluring design and supreme comfort, championing responsible yachting.

The shipyard’s owner Vladimir Zinchenko said, “With more than 1,000 yachts delivered globally, Greenline has been at the forefront of innovation in the boating industry. Throughout that time, we have tried to further our vision of responsible yachting – from sourcing raw materials right through to the operation of the yacht itself.”

The brand has also worked with seasoned naval architect Andrea Armas as a board consultant. With 28 years of experience in yacht building supervision, Armas stated, “I’m backing GX Superyachts for their ambition and vision. My goal is to help translate their hybrid boat-building expertise into the superyacht sector.”

The GX Superyachts concept was born at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show, inspired by Greenline’s all-electric 9.99m yacht that caught Prince Albert II’s eye. This spark has now materialised with the launch of GX Superyachts.

“Each yacht in our GX Superyacht range is equipped with our innovative hybrid propulsion system, allowing for both efficient electric cruising and powerful diesel performance when needed,” explained Chief Commercial Officer, Luca Raumland. “At 6 knots in electric mode, these yachts can achieve an incredible range of up to 100 nautical miles. In diesel mode, they can cross the Atlantic at 12 knots, while the max range is 11,571nm at 6kts.”

The GX range boasts 60 per cent lower carbon emissions than conventional yachts. Extensive solar arrays and large lithium battery banks allow for 48 hours of silent anchoring with full hotel systems running.

The Coupé has a long, curved superstructure roofed with gleaming solar panels

The first GX42 is already under construction, with the keel-laying ceremony having taken place on June 1, 2024 and delivery slated for summer 2026. After careful consideration, GX partnered with SES Yachts of Tuzla, Turkey, for the aluminium build.

This eco-conscious luxury concept, proven successful by Greenline Yachts, is now set to make waves in the superyacht sector.

The GX Superyachts project is launching at a pivotal moment, coinciding with the company’s 50th anniversary, according to Elif Yıldırım Kapucu, Managing Partner of SES. The Turkish yard’s expertise in custom and semi-custom builds aligns perfectly with the new range, underpinned by shared values of family ownership and sustainability.

The GX Superyachts range boasts an impressive line-up of design talent. Marco Casali’s sleek exterior lines marry efficiency with generous interior volumes. Two variants are available: a Coupé with a solar-panelled sliding roof revealing a hidden sundeck, and an RPH version offering a modern flybridge and 353 gross tonnes of volume. Both feature expansive beach clubs with fold-down wings.

Casali’s interior design creates a seamless flow between outdoor and indoor spaces, utilising high-end brands like Antonio Lupi, Dornbracht, Poltrona Frau, and Rugiano.

“We’ve reinterpreted Greenline’s timeless aesthetics for the superyacht market, focusing on harmony between exterior and interior,” Casali explained.

On the technical front, Francesco Rogantin of Names studio has optimised the hull design for stability and efficiency, contributing to its impressive range, even at cruising speeds.

“GX Superyachts sought a hyper-efficient, stable displacement hull,” said Rogantin. “We analysed various scenarios to optimise performance, utilising advanced tools.

The first GX42 is slated for summer 2026 delivery.
