Sanlorenzo SD90 has an exterior by Zuccon

Sanlorenzo will again have a strong presence in Hall 6 of Boot Dusseldorf, where its SD90 is among the show’s largest yachts along with Sunseeker’s 95 Yacht, 90 Ocean and 88 Yacht. The 27.4m SD90 had its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival just over four months ago and was also displayed at the Genoa International Boat Show later in September.

SD90 is a 28m entry model for the semi-displacement SD line and is the third model of the series – following the SD96 and SD118 – to feature both an exterior by Zuccon International Project and interior by Patricia Urquiola.

Philippe Briand was involved in the design of the SD90 hull, while propulsion options comprise twin 800hp MAN i6 engines or 1,150hp Cat C18s, which can deliver a top speed of 17 knots.

Sanlorenzo is also a Project Partner of the nine-day Blue Innovation Dock forum in Hall 10, where speakers will discuss industry themes linked to sustainability, the climate and the development of responsible solutions for materials, propulsion and more.

Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo, is scheduled to make a presentation, ‘On track straight to 2030’, at 2.45pm on Monday, January 23, the third day of the Blue Innovation Dock.

The 45m Feadship Blue Sky is on the market for the first time, with Camper & Nicholsons appointed as Central Agency for its sale.

A 2013 build from the Dutch builder’s F45 Vantage series, Blue Sky is listed for sale at US$22.8 million and is currently based at Gold Coast Marina in Hong Kong.

The 499GT superyacht was originally sold to a client in mainland China and has been described as ‘the first superyacht built by a Western shipyard specifically for a Chinese client’.

Customised features include a custom-made helicopter deck and entertainment areas for karaoke and mahjong.

Designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, Blue Sky has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with the exterior distinguished by eight vertical windows on each side.

An appreciation for the finer things in life inspired the original owner to make his dream of owning the luxurious vessel become reality, although a helipad needed to be added.

“Feadship’s Helix did a tour across Asia including Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. The previous owner of Blue Sky saw that yacht and wanted the same but with a helicopter pad,” said Carmen Lau, a Senior Advisor for Camper & Nicholsons (click for Profile).

“After that first hull, Feadship built seven more and Blue Sky is the last of the F45s, so it’s a very successful model. Feadship is top of the range, and this is a model designed specifically for the Asia market.”

Blue Sky has been well maintained and is a sight to behold when on board, due to a rich interior by British studio Bannenberg & Rowell Design.

The British builder’s new F Class flagship offers four cabins, a newly designed foredeck and a spectacular flybridge.

The Princess F65 is fitted with twin MAN engines

The new Princess F65 is the flagship of the British builder’s F Class of flybridge motor yachts, joining the F45, F50 and F55. The exterior features an extended knife-edge hull window and an accented colour styling blade.

The yacht is fitted with twin MAN V8 engines, with 1,000mhp, 1,200mhp or 1,300mhp options, while gyro and vector fin stabilisation, and increased fuel capacity are among options. Both the flybridge and main deck helm stations feature Raymarine navigation systems, with additional control stations in the aft cockpit offering a convenient option for docking.

The flybridge has three lounging areas

The enormous flybridge features three social areas to starboard, starting with a large sunpad aft, an angular C-shaped sofa with a folding dining table and storage, plus a smaller sofa forward, which can convert to an additional sunbed.

To port is the twin-seat helm station, while aft is a newly designed wet bar equipped with electric barbecue, coolbox and waste bin, with the option of a Lava Brick barbecue and ice maker. An optional electrically operated awning can be specified with the optional hard top.

The aft galley and dining area lead up to the saloon

The interior includes panoramic windows and a generous saloon, while the F65 takes cues from the Y72, such as the cockpit seamlessly connecting to the main saloon via a sliding patio door. There’s a hinge-up window above the aft galley bar top to further connect the cockpit to the interior.

The interior starts with a well-equipped, open-plan galley and a foldable dining table to starboard. Moving forward and up a step, the saloon features a C-shaped sofa to port and an angled sofa to starboard. The helm station has a pantograph door to the starboard side deck, while to port, a raised forward L-shaped sofa offers companion seating.

The foredeck is a new design for an F Class model and has a large C-shaped sofa facing twin sunbeds, with an optional teak coffee table, cool box and sun awning.

The full-beam master suite is midships

The lower deck accommodates eight guests across four cabins including a full-beam, midships master stateroom with an en-suite bathroom, which combines with the walk-in wardrobe to occupy a full-beam space between the bedroom and engine room.

An en-suite VIP cabin in the bow and guest cabins either side of the stairs complete the accommodation. An optional crew/occasional cabin with the option of a double berth and dedicated access via the transom platform is also available.

The Princess F65 debuted at the Southampton International Boat Show last September and is among the British builder’s display at Boot Dusseldorf from January 21-29.

Alex Lee, LYC’s Director of Marketing & Membership

Lantau Yacht Club, Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, has announced Alex Lee as its new Director of Marketing & Membership. Lee is a seasoned membership and sales professional who has a wealth of knowledge in the hospitality industry, partnership development, and sales and marketing campaigns.

He has prior experience with luxury hotel brands and prestigious private clubs in Hong Kong including JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong and Kowloon Shangri-La Hong Kong. Lee will be reaching out to yacht industry partners for more collaborations in the future to promote the LYC brand and the yachting lifestyle to the public.

Lantau Yacht Club (LYC) has also appointed Lo Chi Sing as Head Chef of Caffè Napoli. With more than 30 years under his belt, Chef Lo has extensive experience in curating fine dining and large-scale catering events. Prior to joining LYC, Chef Lo had been with The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Epicurean Management Limited, The Park Lane Hotel and The Furama Hotel Hong Kong.

In his new role at LYC, Chef Lo is responsible for reimagining the culinary creations of Caffè Napoli every season, sourcing gourmet ingredients and providing leadership for the culinary operations team for the 48-seat restaurant. Chef Lo is debuting a new menu and members are looking forward to his gastronomic delights at Caffè Napoli.

YACHTS INCREASING, MORE EXPECTED

The number of members and yachts berthing at LYC gradually increased last year and the marina expects more members’ yachts to arrive in the coming two years. According to yacht agents, boat sales in Hong Kong remain stable and more new boaters are joining the community, while sports boating and leisure yachting have attracted more young enthusiasts during the pandemic.

With China borders open since January 8 and pandemic restrictions easing, LYC believes yachting activities will increase, boosting the demand for berths. With simplified procedures for cross-border yachting activities, Hong Kong could become the main hub for leisure boating in the Greater Bay Area (Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Macau).

As the authorities support and cultivate a yachting culture in GBA, and provide professional support for the industry – including sectors such as legal, insurance, maintenance and financing – the yachting industry will continue to grow and expand.

“Recreational boating, especially the visits of superyachts, contributes substantially to the local economy. High-spending yachting tourism creates multiple economic impacts for Hong Kong across sectors such as F&B, retail, entertainment, boat maintenance and service, accommodation, transportation, insurance, and so on,” Lee said.

“LYC will play a key role for such development as it’s the only new marina in Hong Kong in the past two decades and is equipped with the latest technology and facilities. It’s also only marina in the city that can accommodate superyachts up to 100m and boasts a strategic location 25 minutes to the CBD, 20 minutes to the airport and 60 mins to other GBA cities.”

LYC’s Yachtcation package

Meanwhile, LYC’s Yachtcation package was particularly popular last summer. A special arrangement provided visiting members who booked the package with the option to enjoy complimentary afternoon tea on the private roof of one of Discovery Bay’s luxury residences, which commands a breathtaking view of DB and Hong Kong’s city-centre skyscrapers.

NEW SERVICE YARD TENANT

Furthermore, the LYC Service Yard now has four tenants following the opening of the Starship Yachts office, which joins MSA (Marine Service Asia), Lodestone Yachts and NextWave Yachting.

Absolute 56 Fly

Absolute Yachts will exhibit four models in Hall 6 of Boot Dusseldorf (January 21-29), including the new 56 Fly. The 56 Fly was among Absolute’s two world premieres at the Cannes Yachting Festival four months ago, with a hull delivered to Hong Kong before the official global debut.

The 56 Fly embodies many of the brand’s new features including modular furniture in the aft cockpit and aft end of the flybridge, with glass parapets on both levels. Solar panels are built into the hard top, providing energy independence and silence without need for a generator while at anchor. The full-beam owner’s cabin is in the bow, with the midships VIP cabin virtually a second master cabin.

New Zealand seal comeback at SailGP’s Singapore debut

SHARE

A victory at Southeast Asia’s first SailGP event helped Peter Burling’s men edge closer to Tom Slingsby’s Australians in the Season 3 standings as the series heads to Sydney.

New Zealand defied the odds to win the Singapore Sail Grand Prix, cementing Peter Burling’s team as the main threat to Australia as Tom Slingsby’s outfit bid for a third straight season title. New Zealand are now the only team besides Australia to win more than one event this season and just nine points behind the leaders in the standings.

With both days of general admission sold out in Singapore, over 5,000 fans across the weekend packed the shorelines of East Coast Park.

New Zealand, SailGP, Singapore, debut, Peter Burling, Tom Slingsby, Denmark, Switzerland, Nicolai Sehested, East Coast

Day two was dominated by three teams, with New Zealand, Denmark and surprise packet Switzerland finishing in the top three of both fleet races. It was a day to remember for the Swiss, as they claimed their first race win to finish fourth in Singapore, agonisingly short of a first final appearance.

Nicolai Sehested’s Denmark raced well to finish second in race three, win race four, and pushed the New Zealand team all the way in the final. A strong first day was enough to see Australia make the final, but its indifferent form from the day two fleet races carried into the final and it finished third.

New Zealand, SailGP, Singapore, debut, Peter Burling, Tom Slingsby, Denmark, Switzerland, Nicolai Sehested, East Coast

For Burling, it was a victory to savour, after his team started the event with a penalty for a contact incident with the United States in pre-event training.

“Coming into this weekend on the back of those penalty points and just seeing the way the team came together under a bit of adversity is super pleasing for us as a group. It’s now two from two against the Aussies in finals,” Burling said.

“We’re more than happy to keep chipping away and now looking forward. We want to try to make the top three and then to try to be in our best possible shape going into that final to win the season.”

New Zealand, SailGP, Singapore, debut, Peter Burling, Tom Slingsby, Denmark, Switzerland, Nicolai Sehested, East Coast

It was a third event final appearance of the season for Sehested and a first time in second place on the podium after a solid weekend for Denmark, as it stayed in touch with the all-important top three.

“We closed the gap and that’s all we need to do,” Sehested said. “We still have two more events to keep closing the gap. It’s only in San Francisco that counts, so we will just keep chipping away and we don’t mind sitting in fifth until the San Francisco event.”

The Australians now sit 15 points clear of fourth place with just three events remaining and are all but guaranteed a place in the Grand Final. SailGP returns to Sydney Harbour for its next event, the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix on February 18-19.

New Zealand, SailGP, Singapore, debut, Peter Burling, Tom Slingsby, Denmark, Switzerland, Nicolai Sehested, East Coast

Slingsby said: “We’re feeling really good; we‘re really happy with how we’re looking on the ladder. It’s going to be amazing going back to Australia. It feels like we can just do our thing and sail and just try to get some decent results. We don’t need to go out there and get first to make the final, so we’re going to go out there, sail free and try to get the win in front of the home crowd.”

Quentin Delapierre’s France dropped out of the top three in the season standings after an eighth-place finish at East Coast Park, while fourth for Ben Ainslie’s Great Britain team in Singapore was enough to see them replace France in the Grand Final positions.

New Zealand, SailGP, Singapore, debut, Peter Burling, Tom Slingsby, Denmark, Switzerland, Nicolai Sehested, East Coast

Seventh at this event for the United States leaves them seventh in the championship and driver Jimmy Spithill looking unlikely for a second straight Grand Final appearance, while Canada’s early-season form seems to have evaporated as Phil Robertson’s team sits sixth in the season standings.

Spain’s struggles continued with a last place in Singapore, leaving driver Jordi Xammar only one point above the bottom-placed Swiss on the season three ladder.

“The whole cross-section of topics will be addressed. Do e-fuels make sense? How suitable is hydrogen as a fuel? How can marinas be digitalised faster? Can we involve water sportspeople to protect endangered regions? How will we be boating in 30 years from now? Now is the time to chart the course for the future.”

Brand-new models from Sunseeker, Princess, Azimut, Ferretti Yachts and Jeanneau are among many exciting world premieres at the 52nd edition of Boot Dusseldorf, as the world’s biggest indoor boat show returns for the first time since January 2020.

Three years ago, show organisers announced that over 250,000 visitors attended the nine-day event at Messe Dusseldorf, with about a quarter of the attendees representing over 100 countries outside Germany.

Boot Dusseldorf Director Petros Michelidakis said he was expecting about 1,500 exhibitors at this year’s event, which will again span 16 halls.

“We’re very satisfied with bookings received so far, which will present watersports in their entirety on a huge exhibition area equivalent to 31 football pitches,” Michelidakis said. “There is no other trade fair in the world with such extended ranges and in such an international setting.”

Hall 6, the largest of the 16, is dedicated to the show’s largest yachts (up to 30m). Other halls are dedicated to motorboats (Halls 1, 3, 4), superboats or luxury dayboats (Hall 5), a ‘superyacht show’ (7a), maritime art (7), equipment and accessories (10, 11), diving (12), seaside destinations (13, 14), sailing (15, 16) and surf sports (17).

Sunseeker has one of the largest displays with nine models including a bespoke version of its 95 Yacht, among the show’s largest models, while the 88 Yacht and 90 Ocean models launched in 2021 are the British builder’s other 24m-plus superyachts.

The Poole’s yard’s line-up also includes a 76 Yacht, Predator 65, Manhattan 55 and Manhattan 68, but much of the attention will be on the two world premieres, the all-new Superhawk 55 and the 75 Sport Yacht, an upgraded and extended version of the 74 Sport Yacht.

Andrea Frabetti, CEO at Sunseeker International, said: “Sunseeker returns to Boot Düsseldorf with confidence, flair and the most exciting models in the market today. We’re particularly proud to unveil the new Superhawk 55 and 75 Sport Yacht, which will be the crown jewels of our impressive line-up of stunning yachts.”

Princess also has a long history at the show and is hosting the world premiere of its S72, the second biggest model in the S Class behind the popular S78. The Plymouth builder’s seven-strong line-up also includes the V40 cruiser, F45 flybridge and S62 sportbridge, Boot Dusseldorf debuts for the F65 and X80, and the European premiere of the Y85, further boosting the 24m-plus yacht count.

Fairline is showing its flagship Squadron 68 and the Phantom 65, which both are showing four months after their world premieres at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The Oundle-based builder is also showing the F//Line 33, Targa 45 GT and Targa 50 Open.

Paul Grys, CEO of Fairline, said: “We’re delighted Boot Düsseldorf is back and equally delighted to bring two show debuts to such a key event in the calendar. We’ve had fantastic feedback on the new Squadron 68 and award-winning Phantom 65 since visitors first saw the yachts at Cannes. Our investment in new product underpins our growth and we’ve got an exciting period ahead.”

The Pearl 72 makes its European debut following its world premiere at last October’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, where Managing Director Iain Smallridge confirmed the appointment of VP Yachts as the builder’s dealer in Hong Kong. On the second day of Boot, the British brand is announcing details of its upcoming Pearl 82, which is already in production.

Other yachts comprise the Fly 53 and Fly 78, also by Mancini, and Magellano 66, the entry model for the long-range Magellano Collection.

Ferretti Group will also be staging a world premiere at Boot, unveiling its Ferretti Yachts 580, the brand’s latest model with exterior and interior design by Filippo Salvetti and IdeaeItalia respectively.

Sanlorenzo will display the SD90, one of the show’s largest yachts and fresh from its world premiere at Cannes, while sister brand Bluegame showcases its new BG54 launched last year along with the BGX60 and BG72.
