Ferretti Group is again a leading exhibitor at the Venice Boat Show, with a range of 10 motor yachts representing five of its brands. The Ferretti Group display at the Arsenale includes the world premiere of the wallypower58, the first wallypower model released since Wally became part of Ferretti Group. A wallytender43X is also on show, as is a Rivamare (39ft) from Riva.

Pershing is represented by the powerful 6X (62ft) and 7X (69ft) motor yachts, while the Group’s largest yacht on show is a Custom Line 106’ planing superyacht. Ferretti Yachts has the strongest brand presence with four models comprising the 670, 780, 850 and the 1000, the brand flagship launched in 2021.

“It’s an absolute delight to present the Ferretti Group fleet in a unique setting like the Arsenale, suspended magically between heritage and modernity. It’s host to the world debut of the ground-breaking wallypower58, a masterpiece of design and innovation that marks the start of a new era for the extraordinary Wally range.

Fountaine Pajot has entered the cruiser powercat market while Leopard has launched a ‘middle child’ in its modern powercat family, as revealed in the second chapter of the ‘Multihulls Power’ feature in Yacht Style Issue 65.

FOUNTAINE PAJOT MOTORING

The MY4.S is Fountaine Pajot’s newest powercat

In La Rochelle, two hours’ north of Bordeaux, Fountaine Pajot hosted a three-day motor yacht event in May focused on sea trials of all its powercat models, along with shipyard tours and entertainment. Now with about 1,000-1,200 staff including for sister brand Dufour, Fountaine Pajot has produced over 4,000 catamarans since 1976 and has a strong history in powercats, having been among the first production cat builders to enter the motor yacht sector, in 1998.

Group Sales Director Steven Guedeu says sales of its motor yachts are increasing every year, but still make up about 20 per cent of the brand’s turnover as sailing cat demand is similarly rising.

The Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts range now includes the new MY4.S, which had its world premiere at Cannes last September. The 37-footer also exhibited at this year’s International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte, where it was announced as the Multihull of the Year winner in the Power Under 40’ category.

The MY4.S offers an alternative for motor yacht buyers

“The response to the MY4.S has been excellent,” Guedeu says. “It has been very successful, as we believe it answers a special demand.”

The MY4.S offers a cruiser option in a range that also includes the MY5 and MY6 flybridge powercats as well as the flagship Power 67. Formerly known as the MY40 and MY44 respectively, the MY5 and MY6 are now offered in a new Millesime interior as part of Fountaine Pajot’s ongoing upgrade of its interior styling.

“The Millesime interior has elevated our motor yacht offerings,” Guedeu says. “We’ve reached a new interior level for all the Fountaine Pajot Motor Yacht models, which now matches the quality of more expensive monohull motor yachts.”

A Fountaine Pajot MY6 in Hong Kong

Asia Yachting represents Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts in Hong Kong, where this year it has sold two units of the MY6 with the Millesime interior including a unit delivered earlier this year. The regional dealer also sold a new MY5 that arrived in the city last year, while an MY5 was on display at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show through Multihull Solutions.

Guedeu says he sees more competition coming in the powercat sector, but says the company’s experience and expertise will maintain its position as a front-runner.

“Fountaine Pajot launched the market of the power catamaran and today Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts remains a worldwide reference in this market. Powercats are becoming more popular, to such an extent that many new brands are getting into it, but we have a know-how and special hull designs that can’t be matched.”

POWER OF LEOPARDS

Leopard is another cruising catamaran giant, having produced over 2,500 hulls over the past two decades in Cape Town, where South African builder Robertson & Caine produces the brand’s sailing and power cats, which are certified both in Europe (CE) and the Americas (NMMA/ABYC).

Leopard debuted the 46 Powercat this year

Leopard, which has about 1,500 staff, has recently been upgrading its range of powercats, which traditionally outnumber the brand’s sailing cats in Asia. The 53 Powercat launched in 2020 kick started the brand’s fourth generation of power catamarans and has been followed this year by the 46 (see Review, Issue 65), while the 40 will debut in 2023.

“The new generation of Leopard powercats are a breed of their own, built to compete with motor yachts,” says Kit Chotithamaporn, Leopard’s Yacht Sales Manager – Asia.

“The 46 Powercat was not built to replicate any of our sailing catamarans, but instead is a true motor yacht in her own right. With this yacht, we were able to take all the loved attributes of the 53 Powercat and put them onto the 46 without compromising the interior space.”

The 46 Powercat continues Leopard’s emphasis on large flybridges

Fourth-generation features include an indoor helm station, full-sized fridge and induction hobs, while the brand continues to offer large, feature-packed flybridges.

The new models – which have the option of solar panels and lithium batteries – are proving almost as popular globally as the brand’s sailing cats, which have traditionally outsold their motor yacht sisters two to one.

“In the motor yacht market, we’re confident we’ve found the ‘sweet spot. For many years the sailing range dominated Leopard sales globally, but with the new line of power catamarans, they’re quite even,” Kit says.

The interior of the Leopard 46 Powercat

“In Asia, the former 43 and 51 Powercats sold well, and the trend is continuing with the new 46 and 53 Powercats. The trend should continue as the new models offer the same great performance and efficiency yet with much-improved aesthetics and luxury, which suits clients in Asia.”

Leopard, which plans to display the 46 and 53 Powercats with its 42, 45 and 50 sailing cats at Cannes in September, prides itself on the rugged, tried-and-tested systems and fuel economy of its catamarans. For many years, most of its catamarans had to make ocean passages from Cape Town to their delivery destinations.

Bali continues to develop new models while the first Sunreef Eco sailing cats have been launched in the second and final chapter of the ‘Multihulls Sail’ feature in Yacht Style Issue 65.

BALI KEEPS EXPANDING

The Bali 4.4 is the brand’s newest catamaran and among five sailing models it has debuted since 2020

In late April, Bali staged the world premiere of its 4.4 alongside its other five sailing models at the International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte, just a couple of hours along France’s south coast from its headquarters in Canet-en-Roussillon.

The Bali 4.4 (Review, Issue 65) is the latest of a remarkable series of new models launched over the past couple of years from a brand founded in 2014 by Catana Group owner Olivier Poncin. It started with the world premiere of the Catspace at the Boot Dusseldorf indoor show in Germany in January 2020 and continued that year with the launches of the 4.8 – the brand’s second-biggest model whose layout options include a remarkable version with six ensuite cabins – and the 4.6.

Last year, Bali launched the 4.2 and that was followed by the 4.4, which officially premiered this April, extending the brand’s range of sailing catamarans to six, a remarkable tight-knit portfolio that currently spans from the 40ft Catspace to the flagship Bali 5.4 that debuted in 2018.

A customised Bali 4.8 in Hong Kong

Bali’s ability to quickly entrench itself as a major player alongside Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot and Leopard in this sector is primarily because of its distinctive design innovations. The most notable is the wide ‘Bali door’ that electrically lifts into the ceiling and converts the cockpit and interior social space into one connected area.

Others include the solid foredeck, which notably increases living space and is complemented by a foredeck door on all but the smallest models. Sliding saloon windows, flybridges and huge fridges are other recognisable traits.

Recent Bali arrivals into Asia include a heavily customised Bali 4.8 with flybridge hardtop into Hong Kong for Asiamarine owner Eric Noyel, with the boat also placed into the company’s charter offerings. Asiamarine has represented Bali in Hong Kong and key Southeast Asia markets since 2020.

Bali is developing the Catsmart

And just when you thought Bali might pause for breath, the brand recently released designs for the Catsmart, a 38ft 7in cat with a 21ft 2in beam that will sit just below the Catspace as the new entry model.

Innovations include twin helm stations and a lowered boom due to the absence of a flybridge, while accommodation options range from a two-master layout featuring one en-suite cabin in each hull to a four-cabin layout with each hull featuring two cabins and a shared bathroom.

LEOPARD SHOWING FULL FLEET

Leopard completed a refresh of their sailing models last year with the launch of the Leopard 42, which recently won the Sail 40-45’ category in the 2022 Multihull of the Year awards.

Leopard introduced its 42 last year

Having shown the model at this year’s International Multihull Show along with the 45 and 50 plus the 46 and 53 Powercats, Leopard plans to also exhibit its full five-strong fleet at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. The brand also predicts production this year to be back to pre-Covid levels of close to 200 units and expects this to rise to 220 in 2023.

The Leopard 42, which made its Asia-Pacific debut at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show last year, reflects ongoing input from Simonis Voogd, the Dutch design studio that also has an office in Cape Town, home of Leopard builder Robertson & Caine.

The model comes with three or four en-suite cabins – the latter an impressive offering on a 42-footer – and retains all the brand’s signature features including the foredeck cockpit with direct access from the saloon.

Bali, Leopard, Sunreef, catamaran, sail, sailing, multihull, Catsmart, Eco, Windelo, Excess, 14Upper lounge on the Leopard 45

Other signature features on Leopard sailing cats include the semi-raised helm to starboard, where the skipper has a flybridge view but can also communicate with those in the cockpit. In addition, and unlike her predecessor, the 42 includes an upper lounge following the lead taken by the 50 and 45, while solar panels and lithium batteries are an option.

“The flybridge lounge has been a very popular feature. Leopard engineered the lounge in such a way that you’re not compromising sail area and the boats still maintain the efficiency of the protected, singlehanded helm station,” says Kit Chotithamaporn, Leopard’s Yacht Sales Manager – Asia. “The lounge offers yet another usable space onboard and is the ideal place to enjoy a sundowner at the end of the day.”

SUNREEF SAILS INTO ECO ERA

Sunreef kick-started 2022 by launching its first two solar-skinned sailing catamarans, the Polish builder splashing the first Sunreef 80 Eco in icy waters in Gdansk before following up in April by lowering the first Sunreef 60 Eco into the water.

The first Sunreef 80 Eco pictured sailing in Dubai

The Sunreef 80 Eco, which has a beam of 38ft, was scheduled to have its world premiere at the Dubai International Boat Show in March, but after missing the event due to shipping delays, she remained in the UAE for sea trials and tests.

“After the show, we had customers on board for sea trials and they were impressed by how the yacht combines luxury and sustainability,” says Francis Lapp, founder and CEO of a company now celebrating its 20th anniversary. “We had very positive feedback on the silent engines and efficiency of the solar panels. It was also a good opportunity to test the energy-saving air-conditioning system.”

Bali, Leopard, Sunreef, catamaran, sail, sailing, multihull, Catsmart, Eco, Windelo, Excess, 14

Unlike most other yachts with solar panels, Sunreef’s Eco models feature a proprietary ‘solar skin’ that can be applied on curved surfaces. The first 80 Eco features solar panels integrated into her hull sides, superstructure, bimini roof and even mast.

The 80 Eco’s sail wardrobe includes a 200sqm mainsail, 155sqm Genoa, 340sqm gennaker and 70sqm staysail. Under sail, the yacht can produce green energy continuously due to her hydrogeneration system, while other green tech includes custom-engineered, lightweight batteries and highly efficient air-conditioning.

“The first tests have shown a very good performance of all the systems – a very smooth cruising experience, efficient solar-power system, autonomy and hydrogeneration while under sail,” says Lapp.

Bali, Leopard, Sunreef, catamaran, sail, sailing, multihull, Catsmart, Eco, Windelo, Excess, 14

Sunreef recently launched the first 60 Eco

“Sunreef Eco yachts obviously allow for massive fuel savings and it’s worth emphasising that the electric engines are almost maintenance-free. An owner of one of our electric Sunreef sail cats (without solar panels) has been cruising for three years without maintenance of the engines.”

Sunreef offers Eco versions of all its current range of luxury, semicustom sailing catamarans, which comprise the 50, 60, 70 and 80 models. Remarkably, the Sunreef 80 – which spearheaded the range with its world premiere at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival – is not only the largest but also the best-selling model in the existing Sail range.

AND THERE’S MORE

Excess showed all three of its existing models, the 11, 12 and flagship 15, at this year’s International Multihull Show and will premiere the Excess 14 at Cannes in September.

The Excess 14 will show at Cannes

Models by the young Groupe Beneteau brand are designed to offer the ‘sensation’ of sailing monohulls with the living space and stability of a catamaran.

Like the other models, the VPLP-designed Excess 14 has twin helm stations aft, while innovations include asymmetric hulls featuring redesigned windows.

World premieres at La Grande Motte included the aluminium CK 70 by Squalt Marine and the Windelo 54 Yachting, which joins the Windelo 50 among eco-friendly solar-electric cats produced by the Canet-en-Roussillon shipyard. Upcoming models include the 47 and 57, with all models available in Adventure, Yachting and Sport versions.

The Windelo 54 debuted at La Grande Motte

Meanwhile, Neel showed its 43, 47 and 51 trimarans at La Grande Motte. The La Rochelle shipyard is represented in key Asia-Pacific markets by Multihull Solutions.

Azimut has released its follow-up to the Verve 42, which has already received over 30 orders and now has a waiting list of about two years. The Verve 42 is following in the footsteps of the successful Verve 47 launched in 2020 and which has sold over 65 units to date.

Azimut, Verve, 42, 47, outboard, Michael Peters, Francesco Struglia

With an overall length of 42ft 4in and an almost 13ft beam, the Verve 42 has triple Mercury Racing outboard engines of 400hp and 450hp, for a top speed of 45 knots and a cruising speed of 33 knots plus a range of 200nm at cruising speed.

Azimut, Verve, 42, 47, outboard, Michael Peters, Francesco Struglia

Designed primarily for the US market, the Verve series is based around the concept of a fast cabin cruiser combining the speed and functionality of centre console fishing boats with Azimut’s Italian design style.

Like the Verve 47, the Verve 42 features a hull by Michael Peters design and exterior and interior design by Francesco Struglia. The Stepped ‘V’ Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) hull designed by Peters reduces water resistance by ensuring smooth, clean entry.

Fountaine Pajot debuted the MY4.S at Cannes last September

A new Fountaine Pajot MY4.S has been sold to Vietnam, marking the brand’s first new unit sold to the Southeast Asian country. Fountaine Pajot is one of the world’s biggest sailing cat builders and has recently upgraded its motor yacht line, with the MY4.S debuting at the Cannes Yachting Festival last year and joining the MY5, MY6 and Power 67 models.

The MY4.S sold to Vietnam has been sold to a resort/charter company by local dealer Vietyacht and is scheduled to arrive in early 2023, with the client owning properties in Halong Bay in the north of the country and Phu Quoc island off the country’s southwest tip corner.

The MY4.S for Vietnam will arrive in early 2023

The client considered the MY4.S “an affordable alternative to 50ft monohull and very interesting for charter/party boat because of the large outdoor space for its sub-40ft length”. The yacht has been ordered for charter and could be set up with four guest cabins.

Kevin Corfa, Head of Fountaine Pajot in Asia, said the new model differs to her bigger sisters by not having a flybridge, but that the cruiser design is starting to gain appeal and that at least one further unit could arrive in Asia next year.

“We struggled at first to get some traction in Asia considering she does not have a flybridge, but after further consideration from our clients, it appears she is a great alternative to sporty 40-50ft motor yachts,” Corfa said.

“She has great performance, close to her monohull competition, but has much more range and possibilities of use, so we have great hopes. The MY4.S was on display in a private event in La Rochelle recently and we have received Asian guests on board and they were very impressed.”

Full-height tinted glazing on the main and upper decks – which both have large saloons – offers uninterrupted sea views, while the wheelhouse has three generous windows. The owner put a lot of emphasis on ‘comfortable spaces in the open air’, which include a sizeable alfresco dining area on the upper deck, and the sun deck, which has a spa pool forward.

The Italian motor yacht builder is staging the world premiere of the C3X alongside three other models at this year’s Venice Boat Show.

Sessa recently launched the first C3X

Sessa is hosting the world premiere of its C3X at the Venice Boat Show (May 28-June 5) along with an F42, C48 and Key Largo 34.

The new C3X has a beam of 3.45m (11ft 4in), an EC load line length of 9.93m and an overall length of 11.33m (37ft 2in) with inboards and 11.19m (36ft 9in) with the optional outboard engines. Sessa is displaying an inboard version with hard top in Venice.

As well as hard top, the yacht is available in open and T-top versions. The open version is fronted by a strong windshield, while the optional T-top covers most of the cockpit and features an integrated electric bimini that extends the shaded area aft to cover the aft sunpad.

Sessa has created a new cockpit design that includes a modular C-shaped sofa to port that can convert into an extended sunpad by lowering and covering the adjustable table. This aft layout is used with both inboard and outboard engines, while the foredeck has a large sunpad for lounging.

The lower deck features an L-shaped master cabin that starts to port with a vanity table and direct access to the bathroom forward. Aft, a step down, is a full-beam room featuring a sofa to port and a double bed athwartships with low ceiling, plus a TV on the forward bulkhead. The VIP suite in the bow has a raised double bed, with guests accessing the bathroom by the ‘day head’ door.

The starboard area between the two cabins is available in either a kitchen or lounge version. The kitchen version has a galley forward of an L-shaped sofa and a long table, while the lounge version has a C-shaped sofa that can transform into a double bed with the addition of a cushion on top of the lowered table.

Sessa F42 is part of the Flybridge range

The new C48, which has an overall length of almost 52ft, is also part of the Cruiser range and has two cabins and a garage that can fit a 2.85m tender or jetski, while the F42 is the smallest model in the Flybridge series and has two cabins and a galley on the lower deck.

The Key Largo 34 was premiered at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival and follows many of the features seen on the Key Largo 40. Available with inboard or outboard engines, the KL 34 includes a sun deck that can be created by folding down the back of the sofa and includes two additional platforms.

Celebrating its 180th anniversary this year, the famed Italian builder marked the occasion with the launch of the first 102’ Corsaro Super in La Spezia.

Riva has staged a spectacular launching ceremony for the first hull of the 102’ Corsaro Super in La Spezia, where the brand’s models from 76-130ft are built.

The yacht is the successor to the 100’ Corsaro, which had its world premiere in Hong Kong in April 2017. More than five years later, the Super version will have her world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 6-11 and showcase redesigned exteriors and interiors plus an enlarged beach club.

The Super version succeeds the original 100’ Corsaro

Featuring an overall length over 30m and a beam of almost 7m, the design has been spearheaded by Officina Italiana Design co-founders Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, working with Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari and its Engineering Department.

The superstructure and the hull have been completely renewed, while new glass fashion plates aft improve aerodynamics.

The launch coincides with Riva’s 180th anniversary

Growing demand from owners led to a complete redesign of the stern area on the main deck, which has been configured as an extended 35sqm beach club and is part of almost 100sqm of liveable open-air spaces. Design options include special gunwales that swing out on either side of the main deck to create exclusive terraces.

The yacht features over 140sqm of glazing and glass surfaces. The glazing in the owner’s suite has been redesigned and extended to 2m in length, amplifying the sense of space in the widebody configuration and offering views on both sides of the yacht. There are a further four guest cabins.

The 102’ Corsaro Super will debut at Cannes in September

The interior innovations include a choice of two saloon layouts. One focused on the dining space has a table for eight aft, while the lounge has views through extensive windows that open onto the lateral walkways. The second layout features the lounge aft and dining space central.

The dominant wood inside is Canaletto walnut, with its warm tones set off by satin-effect titanium ceilings or glass surfaces and cool colours.

The 102’ Corsaro Super can reach 26 knots with its standard 2,435mhp MTU 16V 2000 M96 engines, while two 2,638mhp  MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines produce a top speed of 28 knots.
