Why has Dubai Harbour proved such a successful venue for the Dubai International Boat Show since 2022?

Each year, the boat show continues to evolve, encouraging meaningful conversations across the industry. Over the years, we’ve seen its impact in driving evolution within the region’s leisure maritime sector.

As the show has evolved, Dubai Harbour has evolved as a destination. Today, we’re a gateway for yachts and superyachts from around the world, as part of our mixed-use development that includes a wide range of living, retail and hospitality choices.

We also play host to some of the city’s biggest events, giving people new ways to discover their own maritime journey. We continue to explore new ways to enhance our offerings through investments in technology, sustainability and maritime infrastructure to create a better and more memorable guest experience.

Abdulla Binhabtoor, Shamal Holding, Chief Portfolio Management Officer, Dubai Harbour, Dubai International Boat Show, Bay Marina, Nad Al Sheba Gardens, Baccarat Hotel & Residences, Dubai, UAE, H&H Development, SH Hotels & Resorts

Is Dubai Harbour still developing?

It has rapidly developed in the past three years, growing to encompass a wide range of maritime lifestyle offerings. Our marinas offer the region’s largest marina, featuring close to 700 berths and able to accommodate yachts up to 160m in length, with Bay Marina on the east side boasting Dubai’s first dedicated superyacht marina.

However, we’re increasing the number of berths and developing new infrastructure to continually enhance our offering. There’s more to come on this, and we look forward to unveiling our plans soon.

What trends have you noticed among Dubai residents in recent years?

We’ve seen a growing appetite for new experiences becoming a trend across different sectors. From a maritime perspective, this has unfolded with a rise in superyachting and more demand for seafront experiences.

Abdulla Binhabtoor, Shamal Holding, Chief Portfolio Management Officer, Dubai Harbour, Dubai International Boat Show, Bay Marina, Nad Al Sheba Gardens, Baccarat Hotel & Residences, Dubai, UAE, H&H Development, SH Hotels & Resorts

On the other hand, demand for real estate and branded residences is growing, especially with more UNHWIs and HNWIs choosing to call Dubai their home. Recent diversification of foreign laws has also created significant opportunities for people from around the world.

Dubai has also been actively prioritising sustainability, technology and innovation across key business areas. As a manifestation of Dubai’s wider urban planning, we continue to facilitate the development of megaprojects in the city by evolving and upgrading our portfolio across all our assets, which include real estate, hospitality and leisure offerings.

What properties are Shamal Holding working on?

We’re currently working on a wide range of developments including Nad Al Sheba Gardens. Earlier this year, we broke ground on UAE’s first Baccarat Hotel & Residences, an exclusive lifestyle luxury development. Coming up at Dubai Harbour, we will soon be announcing several upgrades to enhance the development as a seafront residential district.

Abdulla Binhabtoor, Shamal Holding, Chief Portfolio Management Officer, Dubai Harbour, Dubai International Boat Show, Bay Marina, Nad Al Sheba Gardens, Baccarat Hotel & Residences, Dubai, UAE, H&H Development, SH Hotels & Resorts

Can you tell us more about the Baccarat project?

Baccarat Hotel & Residences Dubai introduces a glimmering new masterpiece with an otherworldly lifestyle experience, for those who choose to see life in a new light.

Blending Baccarat’s heritage of craftsmanship, the experience and energy of Dubai and a meticulous attention to finer detail, Baccarat Hotel & Residences Dubai will provide authentic elegance, refined comfort, exquisite living and iconic, inspirational design.

With two crystal-inspired towers cutting a new feature into Dubai’s skyline containing hotel suites boasting Baccarat’s signature design as well as bespoke residences, the new downtown lifestyle development will be complemented by exceptional dining experiences and the highest-quality amenities and services.

In association with our partners at H&H Development, SH Hotels & Resorts, we look forward to delivering an industry-defining project, with Baccarat Hotel & Residences Dubai setting a new standard of elevated living experience.

Exhibiting at this year’s Japan International Boat Show and Singapore Yachting Festival, the Dufour 41 is set to sail in at least half-a-dozen Asian markets this year.

Following its global debut at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival and Asia premiere at the Hong Kong International Boat Show, the Dufour 41 is set to appear at the Japan International Boat Show in Yokohama from March 21-24. The yacht has been sold by local dealer Active Marine, which has also sold several units of the Dufour 37, which had its global debut at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival.

The Dufour 41 features an exterior by Umberto Felci of Italy’s Felci Yacht Design, which has designed for the French shipyard since 2002, and is the brand’s first model to feature an interior by Luca Ardizio of Ardizio Design, also of Italy.

The Dufour 41 will then make its Southeast Asia debut at the Singapore Yachting Festival, which will be held at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove from April 25-28. The model that will be on display arrived in Singapore in mid-February and was sold to a Singaporean by The Yacht Sales Co, which represents Dufour in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

A Dufour 41 also recently arrived in Taiwan, having been sold by local dealer Taiwan Marine Service Company. The yacht has been bought by a sailor who races regularly and will be based at the Kaohsiung Argo Yacht Club. Further units of the Dufour 41 are scheduled to arrive in mainland China and Indonesia later this year.

In early March, the Dufour 41 in Hong Kong will be used for a Sailing Experience Day attended by lifestyle media covering the upcoming Rolex China Sea Race, which will start from Hong Kong on March 27 and conclude in Subic Bay in the Philippines.

Designed to help lifestyle media better understand the sport, the Sailing Experience Day will be organised by Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and Hong Kong dealer VP Yachts, which staged the Dufour 41’s Asia premiere at Club Marina Cove.

Kevin Corfa, Head of Dufour in Asia, said: “The Dufour 41 is really making some waves in the region. She is ideal for many Asian owners who seek a lot of space in a compact boat of 41ft.

“We also expect the new Dufour 44 that debuted in this year’s Boot Dusseldorf to make waves, as she pushes the design boundaries even further with space and comfort, while maintaining the performance Dufour is known for.”

Interior Jewellery: Linking gemstones, energy and beauty

Paris-based Nicolas Jourdier is an ‘interior jeweller’ who crafts unique pieces in gemstones that add positive energy and a wow factor to homes and yachts.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Nicolas Jourdier

Nicolas Jourdier is a self-titled ‘interior jeweller’ who creates jewelled art including tables, consoles, mirrors, lamps and statues. His unique work featuring semi-precious stones now features in major contemporary art collections in Europe and Asia, including in Hong Kong and Manila.

All his creations are custom-made in a Parisian workshop that’s open to the public by appointment – and where he also opened up for an interview with Yacht Style.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Amazonite side table, sold in Hong Kong

Where did the term ‘interior jeweller’ come from?

I invented the term. We describe someone who decorates an interior as an interior designer. A jeweller designs jewellery for the body – rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and pendants. On the other hand, I create large-sized jewellery to beautify interiors; some of my sculptures stand 2m tall. I create interior jewels to grace prestigious residences and yachts.

How do you approach your work?

I craft unique pieces of jewellery specifically designed for the interiors of my clients and tailored to their wishes and energy. I only use minerals that emit positive energies, so they do good by their buyers.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Amber-framed mirror, backed by LEDs

I also work on the association of metals and stones, so they resonate with each other and increase the desired energy. For each jewel, I individually choose each stone, even the smallest one, and place it carefully in a precise and specific position.

When did your passion for stones begin?

When I was 10, my grandfather gifted me stones and fossils he had found around the world including crystallised galena from the Libyan Desert. I was captivated by the stones’ history, mystery and beauty. He frequently took me to museums and gifted me books, and a passion was born.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Malachite console table plated in gold leaf

By 14, I was the youngest member of the Paris-based Mineral and Fossil Study Group (Groupe D’Etudes de Minéraux et Fossiles). We explored the French countryside to collect minerals and fossils. Each search is like a treasure hunt. You dig, you excavate, but you never know if you’ll discover something or if the stone or fossil will be of good quality.

In 2005, after a few years in Hong Kong and Paris, I finally started to live my dream in Florence. I designed and made a table in hardstone marquetry (pietra dura) with materials drawn from old stocks jealously guarded by Florentine craftsmen. I wanted each stone to come from the same quarry as the stones used in the 17th and 18th centuries. Then I created 15 table trays in pietra dura.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Amber wall light

What inspires you when creating your works?

I always start with a stone that inspires me due to its beauty, shape or energy. From the stone, I craft a piece. For example, malachite is a stone that offers protection and inner rebirth, so I designed a console to be placed in an entrance to guard the home from negative energies.

Amber is a valuable, fossilised resin that radiates positive energy and a calming influence. I craft rocks to place in living rooms, imparting peace and good vibes when entertaining guests. I also make mirrors framed with amber, behind which I install LEDs that emit a beautiful light through the translucent nuggets.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Tiger’s eye mirror, backed by LEDs

Tiger’s eye boosts creativity and wards off negative thoughts. Sometimes, I enhance my creations with gold or bronze, like flowers made of tiger’s eye and gold, or gold-plated rocks inlaid with amber.

Do stones genuinely possess virtues?

In France, we put amber necklaces on young children when they’re teething. It helps alleviate their pain and it’s very effective. Stones include iron, copper and silica. Each element has distinct properties, and the pharmaceutical industry uses them.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Malachite side table

I select stones based on their colours and energies. Some stones are electrostatic, some absorb, others emit energy. For example, a table covered in hundreds of malachite pieces doesn’t possess the same properties and energies as one covered in amber. I design each piece based on my clients’ desires and personalities.

How do you source your stones?

I travel to find inspiring stones. For example, I visited Brazil to explore the amethyst mines I had dreamed of visiting since my childhood. I brought back over a tonne of minerals including three magnificent amethyst geodes of exceptional quality, superior to anything in the Paris museums.

Nicolas Jourdier,

Rose quartz mirror, backed by LEDs

Which accomplishments are you proud of?

I sold a gold-plated rock inlaid with dozens of amber pieces to the largest contemporary Asian art collection in France. I also designed a mirror encircled with amber for them. Now, we’re planning to craft a room entirely covered with mirrors and rose quartz, the stone of love.

Lagoon, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, has appointed Asiamarine as its new dealer in Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. Part of Groupe Beneteau, Lagoon is the world’s most popular pleasure catamaran brand, having built over 7,000 units since it was founded in 1984.

In March, the French shipyard is staging the private debut of the Lagoon 60, the third largest of its seven sailing cat models ranging from the Lagoon 40 to the Seventy 7, while the builder also produces the Sixty 7 and Seventy 8 powercats.

Eric Noyel, founder and CEO of Asiamarine, said: “At Asiamarine, we’re thrilled to announce this exclusive partnership with Lagoon, whose dedication to quality and innovation mirrors our own commitment to delivering the best to our customers. With the Lagoon dealership, Asiamarine also enters the very premium world of large, luxury power catamarans.

“This collaboration goes beyond selling boats; it’s about crafting unforgettable journeys and fulfilling the dreams of boating enthusiasts. We’re dedicated to serving all Lagoon owners throughout their journey and confident that our collaboration will contribute positively to the yachting industry across Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.”

Asiamarine, whose new-yacht portfolio includes motor yacht builders Galeon, Nimbus and Axopar, takes on the Lagoon dealership in the three key markets following the conclusion of the catamaran builder’s long-standing relationship with Simpson Marine.

Thomas Gailly, Lagoon’s Brand Director, said: “Asiamarine was the obvious choice to take over Lagoon in these strategic markets. Their long experience with multihulls, their charter structure and the quality of their after-sales service were crucial in our decision. With Asiamarine as our new dealer, we’ll provide our owners and future owners the best possible experience.”

Lagoon had collaborated with Simpson Marine for 37 years, with the dealer eventually representing the brand in seven markets in Asia. The two companies agreed to part ways following Sanlorenzo’s recent acquisition of Simpson Marine, which sold over 300 Lagoon catamarans.

Richard Allen, Group General Manager at Simpson Marine, added: “It was with a heavy heart that we stopped the decades-long collaboration with Lagoon. It has been a pleasure to represent this world-leading brand with its Asia expansion. We are now committed to ensure a smooth transition and will continue to provide assistance to our Lagoon owners as per our customer promise.”

Axopar 29 debuts in two editions

SHARE

The Finnish builder has started its 10th anniversary by offering two versions of the new Axopar 29, which succeeds the iconic 28 that launched the brand.

Axopar 29 XC Cross Cabin

Axopar – whose dealers include Asiamarine in Hong Kong – has debuted two editions of its all-new 29, which succeeds the Axopar 28 that launched the brand in 2014 and its ‘Mark II’ version. At Boot Dusseldorf this year, the Finnish builder staged the world premieres of the Axopar 29’s XC Cross Cabin and Sun Top versions, developing upon the Axopar 28 Cabin and T-Top models.

The Axopar 29 has a 29ft hull with a 9ft 8in beam and a twin-step, 22.6-degree V ‘sharp-entry hull’, which includes recycled PET materials and is 30 per cent more efficient than the 28’s, according to the builder. The bow section is higher and has a more pronounced flair, while the boat’s symmetrical walkaround side decks are also wider than on the 28.

Axopar, 29, 28, Asiamarine, Hong Kong, Boot Dusseldorf, XC Cross Cabin, Sun Top, Adventure Collection line, Sail Racing, Jobe, Jan-Erik Viitala, founding partner, Creative & Innovation Director, AxopariansAft cabin option

Propulsion options include a single 300-400hp outboard – offered with wider swim platforms – or two 200hp engines, which combine with the hull to give the Axopar 29 a fast cruising speed of 37 knots and a top speed of 48 knots.

The economy is also impressive. With a single 350hp outboard, the boat consumes just 1.6 litres/nm at speeds between 24-34 knots. Even with two 200hp engines, consumption at 26 knots is 1.8 litres/nm, so the boat has a 200nm-plus range with the increased fuel capacity of 400 litres.

Aft cabin option

The Axopar 29 has wide bumper rails aft, while the aft fender boxes and all storage units in the front and aft are bigger than on the 28. An appealing option is to configure the starboard fender box as a top-loading fridge, with a fresh-water faucet and sink.

Layout wise, the aft deck on the XC Cross Cabin can be left open or fitted with a wet bar or bench sofa. However, the most exciting option is a large island sunpad that can be lifted to access a cosy cabin, which can also act as a storage space for gear and equipment.

Aft cabin option

The pilothouse is topped by a higher, aggressively slanted roof that includes the option of forward solar panels. As well as more headroom, the interior includes a flat floor and greater legroom for occupants in the two helm seats and aft bench seat.

Full-width, wraparound screens forward and aft offer panoramic visibility and increase natural light, while the new location of the c-pillars makes reversing and mooring safer and easier. The sliding side doors are taller and wider than on the 28, allowing easier access.

Axopar 29 Sun Top

The Sun Top version of the Axopar 29 incorporates a new roof with a sliding canvas awning, which features on the Axopar 37 Sun Top and is offered with manual operation as standard and optionally with electric actuator.

Like the XC Cross Cabin, the Axopar 28 Sun Top is available with multiple aft deck options (open, wet bar, aft cabin), all fronted by a row of four forward-facing seats and a twin-seat helm station.

However, the Sun Top edition is also available with a new U-sofa layout that increases sociability with a three-sided sofa around a large, foldable high-low table. The aft backrest has four different positions that can easily be changed to reconfigure the seating or lounging arrangement, with the table also lowering to help turn the sofas into a large sun bed.

On both the XC Cross Cabin and Sun Top versions, a new foredeck layout can seat up to eight people on a forward-facing bench sofa and optional U-shaped seating that wraps around the bow, where an optional high-low table can be lowered and covered with infill cushions to create a sunbed.

Among the exciting options, the foredeck’s forward-facing bench sofa can be raised to allow access to a twin-berth cabin or storage area that can include an optional fresh-water toilet and sink.

The Axopar 29 boats are offered with the new Adventure Collection line, including special touches integrated in the boat, a clothing line designed with Sail Racing, and a water activity package created together with Jobe.

Jan-Erik Viitala, Axopar’s founding partner and Creative & Innovation Director, said: “We’re excited to see the Axopar 29s hitting the market, and our 10-year anniversary will be celebrated throughout the whole year with more news and a lot of cool things coming from Axopar in 2024.

“When we founded the company, I could not have imagined the scale and how far Axopar has developed in only 10 years. We’re proud of our worldwide community of ‘Axoparians’ and super excited about the next 10 years ahead of us.”

Already displayed at boat shows on both sides of the Atlantic, the Polish builder’s powerful 435 GTO takes the Grand Touring Outboard series to a new scale.

Galeon has released its 435 GTO, which had its US debut at this year’s Miami International Boat Show following its surprise world premiere at Boot Dusseldorf. The yacht is among recent designs by UK-based Tony Castro, who has been designing for Galeon since 2001.

The flagship of the Polish builder’s Grand Touring Outboards series, the 435 GTO has been described as “GTO on steroids” and be fitted with two or three 600hp Mercury V12s, while there’s even an option for four 500hp versions.

Galeon, GTO, Grand Touring Outboards, 435, Boot Dusseldorf, Tony Castro, Miami International Boat Show, Asia, 325 GTO, Hong Kong, Asiamarine, Singapore, 375 GTO

The 435 GTO takes the bowrider design concept seen on the 325 GTO and 375 GTO, and expands it to an overall length of 44ft 9in, based on a 41ft 2in hull with a 13ft 6in beam. The width of the boat can be widened to a whopping 19ft 5in by folding down both drop-down sides, which are fitted with see-through inserts.

The engines are flanked by transoms, which lead to the aft cockpit, where a forward-facing sofa is fronted by a foldable, height-adjustable table, with the whole area able to be covered by an extendable sunshade. True to Galeon’s focus on flexibility, the sofa can slide forwards and backwards while the backrest can fold down to turn it into a sun pad.

Glass doors slide to allow access to the covered ‘indoor’ area, which includes a flexible table to starboard surrounded by seating on three sides. The forward sofa is adjustable backrest, so during navigation it can be lifted aft and the backrest flipped to form a second row of raised, forward-facing seats. Forward of it, the helm seat is to starboard and is accompanied by two identical companion seats.

The saloon’s aft sofa also has an adjustable backrest, which means it can be converted to face the cockpit. The sofa can also be turned almost 90 degrees to starboard to connect both the indoor and outdoor social areas into one common social space. On the starboard side is a large wet bar with a double grill, sink, fridge and storage, while just forward of it is a raised countertop and a fitted stool.

The large windows on either side of the saloon can electrically slide down into the hull to open the living area to the sea breezes, while the interior can also be opened to the sky by retracting a massive, tinted sunroof over the helm area.

Like the two smaller GTO models, there’s a single passage to port leading to the foredeck, which features foam decking and all-weather upholstery. An almost full-width forward-facing sunpad with headrests and armrests combines with a sofa that wraps around the starboard side and bow.

The space in the middle of the seating can be used for a table or filled in with cushions to create one enormous, sunken sunbathing area, accompanied by cupholders and an outdoor speaker system.

Stairs below the large windscreen lead below deck to an L-shaped galley with a sink and fridge, while to starboard is a bathroom with a large hull window, toilet forward and a large shower aft.

Galeon, GTO, Grand Touring Outboards, 435, Boot Dusseldorf, Tony Castro, Miami International Boat Show, Asia, 325 GTO, Hong Kong, Asiamarine, Singapore, 375 GTO

Forward is an elegant owner’s cabin with standing room at the entrance, a hull window to starboard, thinner windows forward and to port, and a skylight. There’s also a full-beam midships cabin with a low ceiling, double and single beds, and integrated storage on both sides. All downstairs areas are illuminated by recessed LED lighting.

Asia’s first 325 GTO arrived in Hong Kong in late 2021 through Asiamarine, while the dealer’s Singapore office is expecting the region’s first 375 GTO this April.

The Italian superyacht specialist has created a new brand of full-aluminium, sub-500GT superyachts ranging from 30m-45m.

Nolimits offers five models

Rossinavi CEO Federico Rossi starred in an online video presentation to introduce the Italian builder’s new Nolimits range of semi-production superyachts, which comprises five full-aluminium motor yachts ranging from 30-45m.

Designed by the Fulvio De Simoni Studio, the models comprise the Nolimits 30, 37, 37+, 45 and 45+, with the plus sign representing an extra deck and including a raised pilot house. The Nolimits 37+ has an indoor skylounge with an all-around view on the upper deck, while the upper deck on the Nolimits 45+ has a VIP cabin and a private outdoor deck.

Built in Italy, each model has a transatlantic range, large fuel capacity and voluminous storage to allow for long passages offshore. The yachts include certifications for the Panama and Suez canals, and are designed to be ‘charter ready’.

Owned by the Rossi family since it was founded in 1980, Rossinavi is established as one of Italy’s leading builders of large superyachts. After more than four decades of operation, the Viareggio shipyard is now targeting a new market segment with the Nolimits brand, “offering a fleet with a high marine attitude midway between explorer and superyacht style, which frames Nolimits in the crossover category”.

Federico Rossi from the Nolimits presentation

Rossi stated: “After a long experience in building yachts from 500GT to over 2,000GT, it’s time to carry this kind of technical vision also into sub-500GT yachts from 30m to 45m. These vessels are suitable for long voyages and spending long periods offshore, while maintaining the same philosophy of luxury and functionality of a superyacht category.”

Common features among all five Nolimits models include a wide hull to increase stability and space, high panoramic windows and spacious sun decks, which offer different features – pools, American bars, barbecue areas, sunbeds – to appeal to guests at varying times of the day. The sun decks are also equipped with windbreakers, which allow for more comfort during navigation and high winds.

Conceived as heavy-duty vessels and featuring 100 per cent aluminium hulls and superstructures, the Nolimits fleet focuses on space distribution, stability, comfort and safety, applying a ‘Pro’ philosophy that emphasises professional attention to details. Technical zones, crew areas and passages are designed to be spacious, ensuring comfort for all guests and staff even during long passages.

Technical equipment includes heavy-duty engines and generators, two independent rudders to increase manoeuvrability, a double stabilisation system to improve comfort at anchor and during navigation, powerful air-conditioning systems, and Zero Noise technology to reduce noise and vibrations on board.

The wallywhy150 has a similar profile to the wallywhy200

Following the arrival of Asia’s first wallywhy200 in Singapore last year, Wally is set to enjoy an even higher profile in the region this year with the arrival of at least two units of the new wallywhy150.

Since debuting in Italy at last year’s Venice Boat Show, the 24m wallywhy150 earned plaudits in France at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Europe’s biggest in-water show, before making its US bow at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the world’s biggest.

Coming up this year is the model’s Asia premiere, with hull two expected to be delivered in May after being sold by Speedo Marine to a client who plans to use it between the likes of Shenzhen and Hong Kong. As on hull one and most subsequent builds, hull two will feature the wallywhy200-inspired main-deck master suite, which offers 270-degree views around the towering bow.

The wallywhy150 is shown with a power-grey hull

However, the space will be used for a dining room on Asia’s next hull, which is scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong through Ferretti Group Asia Pacific in late summer. Both units destined for Asia have the upgraded option of three Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 (1000mhp/735kW) engines, which give the yacht a top speed of 23 knots, a cruising speed of 20 and a 1,000nm range at 10 knots.

Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s Managing Director, said: “Our goal was to anticipate market demands by developing a yacht capable, once again, of being ahead of its time, starting from those innovative features that made the wallywhy200 successful.

“The wallywhy150 is a flexible yacht, ideal for experienced owners who understand and appreciate the skilful use of space, considerable living areas and its unmistakable personality. We’re sure the wallywhy150 will establish itself in the most diverse international markets.”

The yacht has a two-deck-high bow and stealth-like flybridge superstructure

FAMILIAR SHAPE AND STYLE

Look from the side and the 78ft wallywhy150 looks much like the 88ft wallywhy200, with an almost identical profile to the 200GT ‘big sister’ that kick-started the why (Wally hybrid yacht) series, which features models numbered after their volume.

Like the wallywhy200, the wallywhy 150 features a full-length widebody design – so no side passages on the main deck – and is fronted by the almost vertical bow rising the height of two decks. Again, each side features two long, parallel strips of dark glazing that run below full-length ‘bulwarks’ in the chosen hull colour.

“In the next 20 years, I think that this shape of boat will be much more common because when you come inside and see the volume, you understand why,” de Vivo says.

The beach club leads into the saloon; the aft flybridge offers fixed and loose furniture

Also like her big sister, the wallywhy150 is topped by an angular, stealth-like flybridge superstructure that only Wally could design, although this time it’s an open design without an enclosed skylounge.

Furthermore, the proportion of length and width is almost identical. In fact, the wallywhy150 initially just looks like a slightly smaller edition of the wallywhy200 – until you approach the aft deck.

OPEN TERRACE AND FLYBRIDGE

Instead of a beach club dominated by two raised garages accessed by drop-down sides, the wallywhy150 has a large, clean aft deck described by Wally founder Luca Bassani as a “terrace on the sea”, a concept he popularised on the Tiketitan and Tiketitoo sailing yachts over two decades ago.

Wally, wallywhy150, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Hong Kong, Asia, Ferretti Group, Asia Pacific, Venice Boat Show, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Speedo Marine, Shenzhen, Tiketitan, Tiketitoo, Poltrona Frau, Simrad screens, Darth Vader, Studio Vallicelli Design, Edra

The aft deck can deploy a 3.9m tender on a high-low platform with integrated steps

The aft terrace features a high-low platform that can deploy a tender up to 3.9m (12ft 8in) and has integrated steps to port. Just forward are fitted low sofas with adjustable backrests, so guests can enjoy the sea views including through the glass-panelled bulwarks, or face forward into the remarkable split-level saloon.

To port of the sofas are steps to a fantastic flybridge, the yacht’s other major outdoor social zone. Sheltered under the end of the hard top, an attractive three-sided sofa takes centre stage and faces a clean, aft deck that can be dressed with sunpads and loungers offering clear views through wraparound railings.

Forward of the sofa is a wide wet bar, which is flanked by Y-shaped hard top supports and serves a covered dining table offering breezy alfresco dining for eight. Most of the upper deck offers guests panoramic views, even forward, where the recessed pilothouse is set four steps down and feels like a different planet.

The flybridge’s covered dining table, as seen from the wheelhouse

Featuring two high-backed, Poltrona Frau helm seats and three Simrad screens, the enclosed control room recreates the Darth Vader vibes of the wallywhy200’s wheelhouse, with an almost all-black décor only interrupted by a light daybed on port side. You can also enjoy a front-on view of the pilothouse from the foredeck, a working area accessed by a low door starboard of the dining table.

SPLIT-LEVEL FIRST

If the terrace on the sea and open flybridge are notable differences to the wallywhy200, the saloon is also different. In fact, the double-height saloon is not only a first for Wally but also Ferretti Group.

On most motor yachts, the aft platform is well below the cockpit, but on the wallywhy150 it’s on the same level as the saloon, so a vast indoor-outdoor terrace is created when all the doors electronically slide out of sight. When needed, stoppers can be raised to create a seaworthy barrier.

Wally, wallywhy150, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Hong Kong, Asia, Ferretti Group, Asia Pacific, Venice Boat Show, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Speedo Marine, Shenzhen, Tiketitan, Tiketitoo, Poltrona Frau, Simrad screens, Darth Vader, Studio Vallicelli Design, Edra

Entrance to the two-height saloon, with both levels offering enough space to feature a lounge, dining, bar or galley

“This is the first vessel with direct access to the sea at cockpit level with no stairs necessary,” says Bassani, Wally’s Chief Designer. “It’s effectively a floating loft on the water.”

The interior by Studio Vallicelli Design immediately stands out due to a 2.5m-high, ribbed-teak ceiling that rises like a wave above the saloon’s upper level, which is reached by four steps on either side. The lower and upper levels can feature an array of furniture and Ferretti Group has already designed multiple arrangements.

The lower level has an oblong dining table on hull one, a wide bar with bar stools for an upcoming US delivery, and low-slung loungers for the second Asia-bound hull, which has the dining room in the forward suite. De Vivo’s own ideas include bringing the outdoor vibe inside and continuing the unpolished teak decking into the lower level.

Wally, wallywhy150, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Hong Kong, Asia, Ferretti Group, Asia Pacific, Venice Boat Show, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Speedo Marine, Shenzhen, Tiketitan, Tiketitoo, Poltrona Frau, Simrad screens, Darth Vader, Studio Vallicelli Design, Edra

The saloon’s upper level offers sea views above a cabinet with high-low, double-sided TV

The upper level typically features an aft-facing sofa or sofas. On hull one, a large Edra sofa offers guests views of the aft terrace and sea, plus a central cabinet with a retractable, double-sided TV.

“As the beach club is on the same level as the saloon, it becomes so much more useable as you’re fully engaged with everyone inside. Even on the upper level, you’re overlooking the beach club and sea,” he says. “There are so many ways to arrange the saloon, so you almost want to have three or four boats just to try them all.”

SUPREME MASTER SUITE

In the forward bulkhead, a central door leads to a four-sided galley, the laundry facilities and stairs down to two crew cabins with en-suite bathrooms in the bow. The galley can also be designed in an open style, visible from the saloon.

Wally, wallywhy150, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Hong Kong, Asia, Ferretti Group, Asia Pacific, Venice Boat Show, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Speedo Marine, Shenzhen, Tiketitan, Tiketitoo, Poltrona Frau, Simrad screens, Darth Vader, Studio Vallicelli Design, Edra

The main-deck master is a signature offering, offering sensational 270-degree views

The upper saloon also has a starboard door to the master suite, where a long hallway by the windows passes cupboards in fluted panelling before the door to the near full-width, twin-sink bathroom. Going beyond the bathroom door leads to one of the wallywhy150’s ‘wow’ moments.

Described as an “amphitheatre of the sea”, the symmetrical, spaceship-style bedroom offers spectacular views through windows wrapped around the bow and both sides of the room.

“All visitors love it, especially the ladies. They say, ‘Wow, yeah, I like this’,” Bassani smiles. “If the wives or girlfriends like it, then it’s a very positive sign.”

Wally, wallywhy150, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Hong Kong, Asia, Ferretti Group, Asia Pacific, Venice Boat Show, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Speedo Marine, Shenzhen, Tiketitan, Tiketitoo, Poltrona Frau, Simrad screens, Darth Vader, Studio Vallicelli Design, Edra

Aft view of the master suite; clients can choose to use the space as a dining room

The guest cabins are on the lower deck. The standard layout includes two en-suite cabins midships, with an inward-facing double bed to port and forward-facing twins to starboard, while the forward,

full-beam VIP has a bed facing port to a large bathroom. Wally also offers the option of two full-beam VIP cabins by combining the space of the two midships cabins.

Overall, the wallywhy150 features many of the best bits of the wallywhy200, but offers a novel way to live on the water, with a huge aft terrace leading straight into a game-changing, double-height saloon.

“We tried to make the wallywhy150 a bit different from the wallywhy200 and we’re happy we had the chance to change the concept a bit,” Bassani says. “We needed something smaller as the wallywhy200 was too big for some people walking onto an 88ft motor yacht because it has the space of a 115-footer.

Wally, wallywhy150, Stefano de Vivo, Luca Bassani, Hong Kong, Asia, Ferretti Group, Asia Pacific, Venice Boat Show, Cannes Yachting Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Speedo Marine, Shenzhen, Tiketitan, Tiketitoo, Poltrona Frau, Simrad screens, Darth Vader, Studio Vallicelli Design, Edra

Three lower-deck guest cabins include a midships double to port

“A lot of people prefer the wallywhy150, but that’s expected because the wallywhy200 was the first to introduce the look and concept of the wallywhy series, so people understand it better and are more familiar by the time they see the wallywhy150. There are many reasons why the wallywhy150 is so popular.”

Ferretti Group has announced a record adjusted EBITDA margin of 15.2 per cent, after its Board of Directors approved the preliminary consolidated financial results for the year ending December 31, 2023.

The adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of €169.2 million represented a 20.9 per cent increase on 2022, with a margin of 15.2 per cent, up 110bps (basis points).

The Italian company owns seven brands: Ferretti Yachts, Riva, Pershing, Custom Line, CRN, Itama and Wally. Other financial figures released by Ferretti Group included an order backlog of €1.5 billion, up 15.1 per cent on the previous year, while net revenue from new yachts rose 11.5 per cent to €1,110.9 million.

Net income rose 38.0 per cent to €83.5 million, while its order intake of €1,120.4 million was in line with 2022. Ferretti Group had a net financial position of €281.1 million, down from €365.0 a year earlier.

Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group’s CEO, said: “2023 was an extraordinary year for Ferretti Group in terms of both the results and goals achieved. I’d like to emphasise the great importance of the listing on Euronext Milan in June and its very positive reception from the financial community.

“The results highlight remarkable growth in the main economic and financial indicators and two absolute records in our recent history: an order backlog of €1.5 billion and a margin of 15.2 per cent, confirming the solidity of the commercial and industrial strategy announced in March 2022.

Sanlorenzo is collaborating with Axpo Energy Solutions Italia to establish new photovoltaic plants at its west-coast sites in Ameglia, the nearby superyacht facility at La Spezia as well as Viareggio to the south.

The three plants have a total capacity of 1.5MW, complementing the existing 500kW at the facilities, while Sanlorenzo plans to increase the installed capacity to 3.1MW by the end of this year. The extensive series of sustainability projects is designed to reduce Sanlorenzo’s emissions by over 600 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Headquartered in Ameglia, Sanlorenzo has placed sustainability at the core of its growth strategy and is investing in innovation and collaborations with sustainability pioneers to reduce the environmental impact in every aspect of its operations, from material selection to propulsion systems and manufacturing processes.

Ferruccio Rossi, General Manager and President of Sanlorenzo Superyacht, said: “The installation of photovoltaic plants in Ameglia, La Spezia and Viareggio is a significant step forward in our decarbonisation journey. The transition to renewable energy underscores our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of production activities.

“By harnessing solar energy, we contribute to lowering greenhouse-gas emissions and promoting sustainable energy supply. For Sanlorenzo, this is a strategic investment aligning with the company’s social and environmental responsibility goals, demonstrating a long-term vision oriented towards sustainability.”

Axpo Energy Solutions Italia is an Energy Service Company (ESCo) within the Axpo Group and specialises in the development of energy efficiency, renewable projects and electric mobility.

Marco Garbero, General Manager of Axpo Energy Solutions Italia, said: “Excellence and sustainability are principles that can help businesses appropriately address the challenges of the ecological transition. We believe that the collaboration with Sanlorenzo is a tangible manifestation of this vision, showcasing the potential of the green economy as an opportunity to generate unprecedented synergies between companies in different sectors.

“We are pleased to accompany Sanlorenzo, a Made in Italy brand appreciated worldwide, on its journey towards increasingly integrated sustainability in products and processes, leveraging photovoltaic technology. As AESI, we aim to continue in this direction, promoting the adoption of renewable sources and energy efficiency as drivers for the development of the country’s system.”
