Burgess’ Asia team had a “very strong year” in 2023, despite a quietening market for superyachts in the region. Since setting up its Asia operation in 2015, Burgess has transacted more than 30 yachts for Asia clients, averaging 54m in length and totalling more than US$1.5 billion in transaction values.

Jean-Marc Poullet, Burgess’ Chairman Asia, said: “Despite a subdued Asia market in 2023, our deep relationships and proven large-yachts expertise resulted in a very strong year. I want to thank our excellent ‘glocal’ (global-local) Asia team, which worked very hard the whole year to achieve this result.”

On the brokerage side, the Asia team advised sellers on the transaction of a 90m-plus Oceanco, the 85m Lürssen Amatasia (formerly Areti, now Gigia and for charter with Burgess), the 74m Amels Lady E and the 61m Amels Event, while completing the new build and delivery of a 42m Custom Line and progressing on the new build of a 38m Rosetti.

In addition, Burgess obtained new exclusive sales mandates for the 55m Amels Papa, 52m Codecasa Atlas, new 42m Heysea Song of Songs and a new Custom Line Navetta 42.

For charter, the Asia team welcomed 85m SilverYachts Wanderlust and 68m Abeking & Rasmussen Starlust to the global charter fleet, while completing about 30 central agency and direct charters on yachts ranging from 30-90m.

In 2023, the Asia team’s yacht management fleet comprised 10 yachts from 35-85m cruising in various places globally, with Burgess providing a mix of operational, administrative, financial and crew management services.

Mark Woodmansey, Partner and Head of Brokerage Asia, said: “While we had strong success in the 50m-plus segment in 2023, we are equally focused on expanding our activities in the 30-50m range and look forward to recruiting more brokers specialised in that segment.”

Ferretti Yachts reveals Infynito 80

The upcoming Infynito 80 will complement the Infynito 90 that debuted last year before hull one headed to Asia.

Ferretti Yachts is scheduled to stage the world premiere of the Infynito 80 at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 10-15. Built at the Ferretti Group’s new Marina di Ravenna shipyard on Italy’s east coast, the model is the second in a new range that began with the Infynito 90 that debuted at Cannes last year before hull one made its way to its owner in China.

Featuring an overall length of 23.7m (77ft 9in) and a beam of 6.36m (20ft 10in), the Infynito 80 features exteriors by Filippo Salvetti and interiors by IdeaeItalia, and was designed in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee chaired by Piero Ferrari and the company’s Engineering Department.

Like the Infynito 90, the Infynito 80’s signature feature is the ‘all-season terrace’, a covered foredeck that can be set up in a variety of ways, while notable differences include a flybridge that can be open or semi-closed.

Salvetti said: “After Infynito 90, we developed the range’s second model with the aim of retaining some of this design’s unique and inimitable characteristics, while also adding new features tailored for a project of a different size.

Ferretti Yachts, Cannes Yachting Festival, Ferretti Group, Marina di Ravenna, Infynito 90, China, Filippo Salvetti, IdeaeItalia, Strategic Product Committee, Piero Ferrari, Engineering Department

“We’re proud to present Infynito 80, a solution with above-average covered exterior space, enabling owners to enjoy the yacht in all seasons and weather conditions but without sacrificing direct contact with the sea, the surrounding environment or the sun.”

Like her big sister, the Infynito 80 features Ferretti Sustainable Enhanced Architecture (FSEA), a package of environmentally friendly cruising solutions. They include an integrated system that stores the solar energy collected by the photovoltaic panels installed on the hard top in an energy bank consisting of 14 high-density lithium batteries.

Ferretti Yachts, Cannes Yachting Festival, Ferretti Group, Marina di Ravenna, Infynito 90, China, Filippo Salvetti, IdeaeItalia, Strategic Product Committee, Piero Ferrari, Engineering Department

The battery pack is in the engine room, in watertight steel containers fitted with temperature-monitoring sensors. There’s also a special focus on the use of green materials, such as natural and bamboo fabrics, regenerated leather and recyclable materials, ecological water-based paints and lamellar teak with FSC 5 certification, used throughout the exteriors.

The beach area has an aft platform with a linear lift for launching and hauling up the tender, and is overlooked by a sea-view couch incorporating a generous storage unit. The 19sqm cockpit has free-standing furniture for greater flexibility in terms of layout and use.

Ferretti Yachts, Cannes Yachting Festival, Ferretti Group, Marina di Ravenna, Infynito 90, China, Filippo Salvetti, IdeaeItalia, Strategic Product Committee, Piero Ferrari, Engineering Department

In the 29sqm saloon, the dining room can be replaced by a show kitchen with a bar counter and stools. The main galley is at the forward end of the main deck, with an electrically operated sliding glass door providing direct access to the all-season terrace.

The covered forward terrace is sheltered by an extension to the superstructure for protection and total privacy. The 13sqm terrace can be configured as a dinette, with seating and an extending table, or as a bar counter. The semi-raised pilothouse is accessed by a staircase in the centre of the main deck.

Ferretti Yachts, Cannes Yachting Festival, Ferretti Group, Marina di Ravenna, Infynito 90, China, Filippo Salvetti, IdeaeItalia, Strategic Product Committee, Piero Ferrari, Engineering Department

The standard flybridge is totally open, although owners can choose a semi-closed one with glass panels, while the fixed hard top provides shade for the upper dining area. The aft flybridge features an outdoor galley and a clear area for free-standing furniture such as sun loungers.

The 43sqm lower deck has a full-beam master suite midships, a VIP cabin and two guest cabins, while the crew quarters contain three berths in two cabins.

Ferretti Yachts, Cannes Yachting Festival, Ferretti Group, Marina di Ravenna, Infynito 90, China, Filippo Salvetti, IdeaeItalia, Strategic Product Committee, Piero Ferrari, Engineering Department

Davide Bernardini and Alessio Battistini of IdeaeItalia said: “Infynito 80’s interior design builds on the sustainability solutions adopted for Infynito 90, which are the key plus point of this range. From lamellar teak and eco-friendly paints to regenerated leather and other recyclable materials, everything is designed to offer a yachting experience that fully respects the environment.

“Not to mention the iconic Ferretti Yachts moods: Classic, which taps into earthy elements, and Contemporary, featuring glowing woods and fabrics in fresh hues inspired by the colours of the sea. Both moods create a sophisticated aesthetic in functional and efficient spaces designed for owners who increasingly see their yacht as a new place to live in, as if it were an extension of their home”.

Ferretti Yachts, Cannes Yachting Festival, Ferretti Group, Marina di Ravenna, Infynito 90, China, Filippo Salvetti, IdeaeItalia, Strategic Product Committee, Piero Ferrari, Engineering Department

The Infynito 80 can be fitted with a pair of 1,400mhp Man V12 engines for a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots, based on preliminary data, while with high-efficiency hull helps achieve a range of 1,000nm at 12 knots.

Gulf Craft has announced the sale of the first hull of the Majesty 160, which was announced at the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show and is scheduled to be completed in spring 2026. The project is the second-largest model built by the shipyard and follows the Majesty 175, the world’s largest composite production superyacht, which was delivered in 2021.

Italy’s Cristiano Gatto has designed the exterior and interior of the Majesty 160, with Dutch studio Van Oossanen Naval Architects handling the hull design of the sub-500GT design, which is being built to commercial class and has seven guest cabins.

Mohammed Alshaali, co-founder and Chairman of Gulf Craft, said: “The Majesty 160 project embodies both Gulf Craft’s and Majesty Yachts’ bold vision to fill a distinct gap in the market. This extraordinary superyacht offers unparalleled space and amenities, delivering luxury living on the water just under the 500GT mark.

“With meticulous attention to detail, we’ve created a vessel that redefines the yachting experience, setting a new standard of elegance. The Majesty 160 is not just a superyacht; it’s a testament to our commitment to innovation and our dedication to exceeding the expectations of our clients in every aspect of luxury cruising.”

The Majesty 160 has an overall length of 164ft (50m) and a volume of 498GT. Twin 2,000hp MTU 16V 2000 M87 engines provide a top speed of almost 20 knots and a range of 3,500nm at 12 knots or 4,300nm at 10.8 knots.

The yacht is fitted with two pairs of zero-speed carbon fin stabilisers, twin 100kW generators and solar panels at the top of the sun deck roof capable of powering one of the generators, so reducing fuel consumption.

Gulf Craft, Majesty 160, Monaco Yacht Show, Majesty 175, Mohammed Alshaali, Cristiano Gatto, Van Oossanen Naval Architects, Majesty, Nomad, Oryx, Silvercraft, Touring Passenger Vessels, Umm Al Quwain, Maldives, Ajman, UAE

Exterior areas include an expansive sun deck with modular and moveable furniture along with an infinity pool and a customisable, multi-purpose beach club that can be used as a lounge, bar area, gym or health club. The swim platform provides easy access to the water, while fold-down balconies on both sides expand the sunbathing and social areas.

The smart layout has an innovative climate control system and accommodates up to 12 guests across its seven staterooms, which include a full-beam master suite forward on the main deck that includes a private lounge, retractable balcony and a large bathroom with both bath and shower room. The yacht can also accommodate up to nine crew.

Gulf Craft, Majesty 160, Monaco Yacht Show, Majesty 175, Mohammed Alshaali, Cristiano Gatto, Van Oossanen Naval Architects, Majesty, Nomad, Oryx, Silvercraft, Touring Passenger Vessels, Umm Al Quwain, Maldives, Ajman, UAE

Wing stations on the main deck aid manoeuvring in and out of tight marinas and ports, while options include a helm station on the sun deck. The Majesty 160 draws just 2.3m so can cruise shallow areas, enabling close beach access due to its ground-breaking engineering and use of a lightweight, sturdy composite hull.

Founded in 1982, Gulf Craft has built over 10,000 boats and currently manufactures yachts and boats from 34-175ft across five series: Majesty, Nomad, Oryx, Silvercraft and Touring Passenger Vessels. The shipyard operates a 462,000sqft production facility in Umm Al Quwain (UAE), a 100,000sqft factory in the Maldives, and a service centre in Ajman (UAE).

Travelopia, which owns Sunsail and The Moorings, announced that it has acquired 160 charter boats for delivery in 2024, which will take the total fleet across the two sister charter companies to 750 yachts available in over 20 destinations worldwide.

Travelopia’s Yacht division also includes Leopard Catamarans, whose personalised sailing and power catamarans for private owners are built at Robertson & Caine, South Africa’s biggest boatbuilding company, which produces charter-specific editions of the Leopard catamarans for Sunsail and The Moorings.

The 160 boats ordered by Travelopia comprise 110 sailing and power catamarans from Robertson & Caine and 50 sailing monohulls by Dufour, following a partnership with the French builder announced last year.

Sunsail and The Moorings also sell their models through a yacht ownership programme created by The Moorings in 1971. Through the Covid-19 pandemic and after the likes of Hurricane Irma, the two companies continued to pay guaranteed revenues to all its owners without exception.

Travelopia’s Yacht division has also announced record-breaking results with a total turnover of €315 million for the fiscal year ending on September 30, 2023. It marked the fifth successive record-breaking year for the division, whose total yacht sales revenues have increased by 60 per cent across the past three years.

“Our Moorings and Sunsail Yacht Ownership revenues have surged and combined with the explosive growth of our exclusive distribution of Leopard Catamarans, 2023 was another exceptional year for our yacht sales activities, marking the fifth consecutive record-breaking year,” Sunsail and The Moorings stated.

Sunreef’s main Gdansk facility

Sunreef Yachts plans to increase its workforce across its two production sites in Poland by 15 per cent in 2024, while also doubling its staff at its third facility, in the UAE. Last year, Sunreef delivered 80 per cent more units than in 2021, as it starts to regularly launch models from its new Eco series of solar-electric catamarans, and revealed a 40 per cent growth in revenue over two years.

Francis Lapp founded Sunreef in Gdansk in 2002 and the luxury catamaran manufacturer still uses its original site at the historic Gdansk Shipyard due to production demand, which led to the company opening a larger facility further east along the Martwa Wisla river.

In total, the two facilities cover 125,000sqm and feature build halls with in-house carpentry, upholstery and stainless-steel workshops, as well as one of Europe’s largest computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The facility continues to evolve, with a high-tech paint shop added last year, while a 5,000sqm warehouse and production area is set to be completed in the coming months.

Last year, Sunreef also started operations at its new facility in the UAE, where it has a 65,000sqm land reserve in the northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The new facility “incorporates the latest technologies in luxury yacht building and meets the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency”, according to Sunreef.

Custom Line has launched hull one of the Navetta 38 at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona on Italy’s east coast, with the sun-kissed ceremony attended by the owner’s family and shipyard employees.

Ferretti Group’s near-80,000sqm Ancona shipyard produces all Custom Line and CRN builds, as well as metal yachts by Riva and Pershing.

The Custom Line Navetta 38 has an overall length of 38.76m (127ft 2in) based on a displacement hull of 38.66m (126ft 10in) with a beam of 7.9m (25ft 11in), plus a draft of 2.27m (7ft 5in).

Like all recent Custom Line models, the 299GT tri-deck features exterior styling by Filippo Salvetti and interior design by ACPV Architects, founded and led by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel.

Both studios worked in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Department chaired by Piero Ferrari and the company’s Engineering Department.

Custom Line Atelier provided interior design consulting, working closely with the owner “to transform the yacht into a faithful portrait of his style preferences”, according to Ferretti Group.

Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group’s CEO, said: “Seeing a new Navetta enter the water is a powerful emotion, as it is to go aboard and experience the level of comfort offered by this outstanding ship.

“As a great fan of the Custom Line world, I can assure you that Navetta 38 is seriously exciting and represents a new way to enjoy the sea, featuring elegant materials and interior and exterior spaces that offer unprecedented liveability.

Team Karakoa, skippered by Ray Ordoveza, emerged as the overall winner in the IRC Racing Class at the eighth BPI Busuanga Cup, which doubled as the exhilarating second leg of the 2023-2024 BPI Private Wealth Signature Yacht Race Series.

Team Karakoa won the BPI Busuanga Cup Doni Altura Perpetual Trophy and clinched line honours in the Punta Fuego to Busuanga Race, with a record elapsed time of 16 hours 2 minutes and 2 seconds.

A 135nm overnight race that ended in Black Island, the Punta Fuego to Busuanga Race presented gruelling conditions, with 40 knots of true wind speed gusting to a high of 52 knots and wave heights of almost 3m along the Calavite Passage.

BPI has been a long-standing partner of the BPI Busuanga Cup. The regatta started in 2017 with three participating boats with the vision of reintroducing sailing to Filipinos, recalled Maria Theresa Marcial, President and CEO of BPI Wealth.

“BPI proudly continues its steadfast support of the BPI Busuanga Cup, a legacy that takes an extraordinary turn this year as we unite it under the banner of the BPI Private Wealth Signature Yacht Race Series,” Marcial said.

“When we launched the BPI Private Wealth Signature Experience last year, we promised to take innovative strides and breathe new life in the way we do banking by being more relevant in the lives of our clients. This event marks a celebration of rebirths, as we breathe new life into private banking and reignite the sailing spirit in the Philippines, positioning our nation as the coveted sailing mecca in Asia.”

Over the years, the BPI Busuanga Cup has grown into a much-awaited event in the sailing calendar, with 14 yachts participating in the racing and spectator fleet this year.

Ordoveza said: “I can now see that this regatta will be equal to the international regattas in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. I’m sure that this will be very well known around the region. Thank you for elevating sailing in the Philippines.”

The four-day race was designed to test the skill, agility, determination and team work of the participating yachts with the Punta Fuego to Busuanga offshore race and the Doni Altura Memorial Inshore Races around the picturesque landscape of Busuanga, north of Palawan.

Overall winners were determined by a scoring system that combined the results of the offshore race and inshore races based on corrected time. The Cruising Class saw Papaya, skippered by Renie Ticzon, emerge on top, with Isabelle securing second place, and Despacito skippered by Pablo Lobregat taking third place.

In the Ocean Multihull category, Cariño claimed the top spot overall, followed by Poco Loco skippered by David Sutton in second place, and Tutu Tango skippered by Roman Azanza in third.
