The Italian shipyard’s two models at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show include a US premiere.

Benetti will stage the American debut of the Diamond 44M at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) from October 30-November 3. The Diamond 44M Abbentures² will be displayed at Stand SYV alongside Grateful, an Oasis 34M.

Nick Bischoff, Benetti Country Manager Americas, said: “FLIBS represents a crucial event for Benetti in the constantly growing Americas market. This positive trend is confirmed by the recent sales of an 80m full-custom yacht and two new units of the B.Now 50M line, demonstrating our commitment and customer trust in this market.”

The four-deck Diamond 44M is the fibreglass flagship of Benetti’s Class family of models and features exterior styling by Cassetta Yacht Designers and interiors by Benetti. The lower deck has four VIP cabins and the crew quarters, while the main deck is home to the master cabin, saloon and galley.

The upper deck features a large interior living area that extends outside towards the stern, as well as the helm station and captain’s cabin. The sundeck offers over 102sqm that can be fitted out according to the owner’s preferences. The yacht is powered by two 1,400hp MAN engines, delivering a top speed of 15 knots and a range of 4,100 nautical miles at 11 knots.

Grateful, an Oasis 34M

Grateful is an Oasis 34M, a design collaboration between Benetti, UK-based RWD for exterior styling and Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture for the interior. The smaller sister of the Oasis 40M, the Oasis 34M has a beach club with two wings that open laterally to enlarge the deck area. The aft infinity pool offers an unrestricted 270-degree view, as does the main deck saloon.

The interiors feature neutral colours and shades of grey, interspersed with detailing in materials that tend towards blue and sky blue, such as the bespoke bookcase on the main deck, in which the standard Green Onyx has been replaced with a blue mirror.

Other changes to the standard design have been made. The dining table, usually on the upper deck, is located on the main deck; the jet ski is housed in the bow on the upper deck with a davit to haul it up; a firepit is installed astern on the main deck; and an American bar is featured in the aft section of the sundeck.

On the first day of the show, Benetti will present new projects unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show to American brokers. Designer Giorgio M. Cassetta will introduce the new B.Loft line, Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture and Igor Lobanov will present the new B.Yond models (40M and 57M), while RWD will outline the new Motopanfilo 45M, which includes interiors by Lazzarini Pickering Architetti.

Opening ceremony for the YPAC at the Gold Coast City Marina in Australia

AkzoNobel’s yacht coatings business has opened its first Yacht Paint Application Center (YPAC) in the Asia-Pacific region, with the new base in Australia offering world-class product and technical training alongside the latest cutting-edge digital paint application tools.

Located in the Gold Coast City Marina in Coomera, the state-of-the-art facility in Queensland was launched to enhance AkzoNobel’s global technical network, which supports applicators and industry professionals with personalised consultations and a hands-on training programme to improve skills and deliver high-quality results.

Simon Knight, Regional Sales Manager of AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings, hosted the YPAC’s opening ceremony, with Jemma Lampkin, Commercial Director of AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings, attending the special occasion.

Jemma Lampkin (Commercial Director) and Simon Knight (Regional Sales Manager) of AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings cut the ribbon

Knight said: “The opening of the Yacht Paint Application Center in Asia-Pacific reinforces our commitment to meeting the specific needs of our customers in this rapidly growing market. With personalised services, product expertise and cutting-edge technology, we are uniquely positioned as a partner of choice for any type of project.”

Featuring a mezzanine-level training room, paint mixing room, preparation bays and an advanced spray booth, the facility serves as a hub for product education and professional training.

Applicators and distributor representatives can receive theoretical and practical training on the paint-application process for yachts of all sizes. The curriculum includes preparation, priming, filling, topcoat application, maintenance and repair of the paint system.

The announcement follows the launch of the Virtual Reality (VR) Spray Gun and the XpertEye headset, two new digital innovations alongside the Awlgrip 3D Color Visualizer, which will be available at the YPAC to further enhance the training experience.

Demonstration of the Virtual Reality (VR) Spray Gun

Designed to enhance training for both experienced and new applicators, the VR Spray Gun simulates real-world yacht painting techniques without using any physical product. Applicators can use Awlgrip®, Interlux®, International® or Sea Hawk® systems to practise adjusting spray-gun settings, mastering application angles, and improving techniques for primers, topcoats and fouling control.

The VR Spray Gun provides users with instant feedback on their technique, which allows them to refine their skills before working with real coatings.

For applicators and boatyards seeking remote technical support, the XpertEye camera headset is a safe and hands-free visual assistant tool that connects users directly to the AkzoNobel technical team for real-time technical support.

Users can stream live video and capture images, enabling the AkzoNobel team to observe issues and provide immediate guidance from anywhere in the world. The software is compatible with both Apple and Google operating systems, and can be easily accessed via mobile devices, ensuring support is always within reach.

The Awlgrip 3D Color Visualizer is an innovative, industry-leading tool designed to empower boaters and applicators by simplifying their journey to find the ideal colour for their boat. Unique algorithms provide users with a visual representation of what their boat could look like in a 3D virtual environment. The Awlgrip colour database offers users access to tens of thousands of colours.

Kane Barfoot, AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings’ Regional Technical Services Coordinator, said: “Our focus is to empower professional applicators with the knowledge and skills they need to excel.

“Following on from the success of our YPACs in North America and Europe, this new facility will offer comprehensive training programmes that cover everything from theoretical paint knowledge to innovative application techniques. We’re excited to be the centre for professional development in the region, helping applicators, distributors, retailers and yards stay ahead of the curve.”

Excitement is spreading beyond the Ferretti Group’s recent launch of the Wally wallyrocket51: its new sailing race boat; photos: Maurizio Paradisi

The new wallyrocket51, the first “pure racing sailing model” signed by Wally, has been launched. This represents a new milestone in sailing innovation while maintaining the brand’s aim for strength in style and performance in equal measure.

Conceived to be the fastest owner-driver monotype in the world, she is also designed to excel in IRC and ORC competitions, thanks to a design optimised in every detail.

Wally’s sailing yachts have previously been noted for innovation, achieving benchmarks for performance. In this new model, acquired knowledge, flair and precision are channelled into a new design and competitive-sailing direction.

Wally, wallyrocket51, wallyrocket, sailing race boat, sailing yacht, Ferretti Group, Botin Partners, America's Cup

With a length of 15.5m, the wallyrocket51 features a light displacement of 6.3 tonnes and a refined hull. The new design was realised together with Botin Partners, known for their America’s Cup experience and success in the 50ft and 100ft classes. The boat’s design allows for a rating bonus due to its length (qualifying for TP52 racing) and innovative features such as the trim tab, which improves upwind lift while reducing drag.

The wallyrocket51 is designed to be not only fast, but also versatile and easy to manoeuvre, even with a reduced crew of 11 on board. The water ballast at the stern further enhances the stability and strength of the hull, while the ergonomics of the deck are designed to ensure maneuverability with varying numbers of people on hand. Her sail plan, with 167sqm of surface area when sailing upwind and 363sqm when sailing downwind, together with advanced materials such as pre-preg carbon, Nomex and Corecell contribute to making the boat very competitive and technologically advanced.

The wallyrocket51 seems to have brought a ‘serious’ sailing yacht that combines style and performance – not to mention fun – at the highest level with a well-honed new design that could well mark a new chapter in the world of racing.

The Cheoy Lee 127 Discovery has a 4,000nm range

Cheoy Lee Yachts, the superyacht division of Cheoy Lee Shipyards, has introduced the 127 Discovery, a new luxury expedition yacht designed with Nick Boksa of Boksa Marine Design. The mission statement for the Cheoy Lee 127 Discovery is to support luxurious adventures to exotic destinations.

Featuring an overall length of 38.71m (127ft) and a beam of 8.79m (28ft 6in), the “compact yet highly capable” superyacht offers a transoceanic range of 4,000nm with two 800hp Volvo D13-800 diesel engines (IMO Tier III and U.S. EPA Tier 3).

Like Cheoy Lee, Boksa Marine Design specialises in both luxury leisure yachts and commercial maritime vessels. The 127 Discovery benefits from this background with a seakindly and serviceable design, including a full-displacement steel hull with a sharp entry and spray chine.

The 127 Discovery features an exterior by Nick Boksa

Like a commercial ship, the pilothouse of the 127 Discovery is positioned forward for greater visibility. The centre of gravity is intentionally low for comfort at sea, with the tender on the aft main deck rather than the flybridge. The beach club is inside the transom hatch, which can be closed for safety.

The 127 Discovery “offers the features and amenities of a much larger vessel”, according to Cheoy Lee Yachts, which states that Boksa’s efficient design incorporates the owner, guest and service areas expected on a 150ft explorer yacht. Sylvia Bolton of Sylvia Bolton Design created the yacht’s “classic yet comfortable” décor.

The interior includes five en-suite staterooms including a full-beam, main-deck master. The formal saloon and dining area are designed for entertaining, while the bridge-deck skylounge and sun deck offer informal fun and relaxation.

Particular attention has been paid to optimising the service areas. While the yacht can be operated with a smaller crew, there are comfortable quarters for up to 11, including a bridge-deck captain’s cabin – rare on a yacht of this size – and an engineer’s cabin aft of the engine room.

The tender is stored on the aft main deck

The huge galley features both a walk-in freezer and crew lounge, while a dumbwaiter facilitates food service on all four decks.

BY Lo, Director of Cheoy Lee Shipyards, said: “We have enjoyed our collaboration with Nick Boksa and his team in designing the Cheoy Lee 127 Discovery.

“Drawing on the commercial maritime background we share, our mission was to create an expedition yacht under 150ft that still has the luxury, seaworthiness and serviceability to let owners fulfil their dreams of global discovery in safety and comfort. The 127 Discovery has fulfilled this vision beautifully, and we’re looking forward to working with Nick on future models in the Cheoy Lee Discovery Series.”

Boksa, Lo and the Cheoy Lee Yachts team will be based at Bahia Mar Booth E504 at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 30-November 3).

Noel Chan skippered Rampage88 to victory in IRC 0 at the three-day Volvo China Coast Regatta, while his Rampage38 – skippered by Denis Ma – conquered the Cape 31 class of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s premier ‘big boat’ event.

Held from October 11-13, the Volvo China Coast Regatta attracted 31 yachts across six divisions, with a strong northeasterly monsoon blowing throughout the regatta to provide classic autumn sailing conditions. The IRC 0, Cape 31, IRC 2 and IRC 3 fleets raced all three days, while the Premier Cruiser and PHS divisions competed only on the weekend.

The opening Friday started in a favourable easterly breeze of 14-15 knots, with windward/leeward courses warming up the sailors.

The opening races were followed by a 17nm island course for IRC 0, taking competitors around Po Toi and Sung Kong before finishing off at Stanley Peninsula. The route for all other divisions was reduced to a 10-11nm course rounding Beaufort Island and Sung Kong or just Beaufort Island, before ending at Stanley.

Day two offered 18-20 knots of easterly breeze under a beautiful clear blue sky, with all IRC fleets put through their paces with three demanding windward/leeward courses.

The PHS division was set one windward/leeward and a 10nm island course, while the Premier Cruiser boats were sent to complete two island courses in the breezy conditions. After a hard day on the water, sailors were rewarded with a lively Mount Gay party at the Club’s Middle Island clubhouse.

The final day featured an average of 15 knots of north-easterly breeze and gusts of up to 20 knots across the racecourse, which was set southeast of Lamma Island. All IRC racer divisions and the PHS division were set one windward/leeward course, with an island course ranging from 9-11.5nm around Po Toi and Sung Kong or Beaufort Islands, then finishing off Stanley.

Competition was fierce across all six divisions. In IRC 0, an impressive line-up included three TP52s – Noel Chan’s Rampage88, Nie Hua’s Happy Go and Sam Chan’s FreeFire – and strong teams aboard Seawolf, led by William Liu, and Stanley Tse’s Kikukie’s Dream II.

Overview from the south of the upcoming marina in Bali

Marina Development Indonesia (MDI) and Pelindo – a government-owned company providing maritime and port services – are developing a modern 180-berth marina in Benoa Harbour that will be able to accommodate over 50 superyachts, according to a media release distributed by Asia Pacific Superyachts.

Construction is already underway on the marina, which is in the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) in Benoa, located east of the airport, south of the capital of Denpasar and just north of Nusa Dua. Designed to accommodate superyachts up to 90m, the marina has been described as Indonesia’s first full-service marina of “international standard”.

Arif Suhartono, Pelindo’s President Director, said: “The new marina in Bali embodies our vision to position Indonesia as a key player in the global maritime industry, combining luxury experience, services, safety, and world-class infrastructure.”

Projected styling and materials are in keeping with the Indonesian island’s established top resorts

The marina is scheduled to welcome yachts to the first completed dock in July 2025 and be fully occupied by 2026. The site currently has a temporary buoy mooring system in place for 30 yachts up to 17m.

Hardware will include a yacht service area, a travel lift capable of handling up to 200 tonnes, and a high-quality fuelling station. The project will also feature a prestigious yacht club, luxury hospitality options, dining outlets, retail zones and offices.

Ulf Backlund, MDI’s President Director, said: “Indonesia deserves a first-class marina that reflects its status as the new yachting paradise of the world.

“Safely positioned outside typhoon paths, Indonesia is the ideal location for such a development due to its distinctive location, 17,000 islands, spectacular diving locations, diverse languages, cultures, and favourable weather all year long. This marina will attract global yachting enthusiasts keen to explore Indonesia’s natural beauty and the world’s biggest archipelago.”

International marina developer partners are collaborating to help achieve a world-class facility in Bali

MDI is developing the marina with partners including SF Marina, a Swedish marina developer specialising in floating breakwaters and concrete pontoons. SF Marina, which has over a century of experience, will construct the marina to the same exceptional standards as others in its portfolio, which include Marina Port Vell in Barcelona and Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale. The pontoons will be produced locally by SF Marina Indonesia.

Italy’s Plus Marine – renowned for its work at Port Hercule in Monaco and Porto Montenegro – is responsible for installing state-of-the-art electricity supply and charging systems, and water pedestals, using a SmartCloud remote metering system. Discover Luxury Indonesia will offer a suite of luxury services including bespoke on- and off-boat experiences, and comprehensive logistical support.

The new marina is also a key initiative in stimulating local economies by creating employment opportunities, promoting tourism, and cultivating a lively yachting community.

Joko Noerhudha, Pelindo Solusi Logistik’s President Director, added: “The marina will not only attract international yacht owners but also provide an exceptional home base for domestic vessels, contributing to the growth of Indonesia’s tourism and economic sectors.”

Asia Pacific Superyachts was also delighted with the announcement of the new marina, with the company specialising in serving superyachts and traversing the complexities of staying and cruising in Indonesian waters.

Captain Thomas Taatjes, Manager of Asia Pacific Superyachts Indonesia, said: “Meeting with project leaders, we were excited to learn the new marina is official and that we will have a large, world-class marina in Bali.”

Salle des Étoiles hosted The Honours 2024

Mike Horn was among three high-profile winners of a Bowsprit at the second edition of The Honours, which featured almost 300 nominees and was again organised jointly by The Superyacht Life Foundation and Monaco Yacht Show. Frederic Jousset, owner of the ArtExplorer sailing catamaran and ‘boat museum’, and Yachting Gives Back founder Nick Entwisle were also recipients of a Bowsprit trophy.

For the second year, the elegant evening event was held on the eve of the Monaco Yacht Show, but this time thrived in a new location, with Salle des Étoiles hosting an action-packed programme featuring inspirational documentaries and on-stage discussions with the Honourees.

Among the world’s best-known adventurers, Horn has spent over two decades pushing the limits of exploration, achieving feats like swimming the Amazon, circumnavigating the equator, and trekking from the Arctic Cape to the North Pole.

In 2008, the acclaimed explorer launched Pangaea, a 35m aluminium sailing boat, for a 60,000-mile expedition involving youth in environmental and social projects across destinations like Antarctica, India, and Africa. Horn is also an ambassador for Sunreef Yachts and its environmentally-friendly Eco yachts, with the Polish shipyard refitting Pangaea ahead of his ongoing What’s Left expedition around the world.

However, Horn was specifically honoured for his ‘Pangaea X’ initiative, which is focused on educating the next generation on environmental challenges through the Young Explorers Program, a six-month incubation that empowers young innovators to tackle global issues.

“I want young people to explore the world, to experience its wonders up close, and to build a genuine emotional connection to the environment,” Horn said. “Nature can take care of humans if we respect and understand it.”

Jousset, an art philanthropist and founder of Art Explora Foundation, has dedicated himself to democratising access to culture and bringing art to the masses. He combined his passions for art and sailing by creating ArtExplorer, the world’s largest sailing catamaran, which was built at The Italian Sea Group’s facilities in Marina di Carrara and had its world premiere at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show.

Earlier this year, the floating museum began a two-year Mediterranean voyage with plans to visit over 15 destinations to offer free access to art and artistic experiences. At each stop, a festival village showcases arts, culture and performances.

Benefiting from support by the EU, UNESCO and institutions like the Louvre, ArtExplorer has already attracted tens of thousands of visitors, many experiencing art for the first time. Jousset sees ArtExplorer as a movement to expand cultural access beyond traditional museums.

“The genesis of ArtExplorer comes from a very simple idea,” Jousset said. “I think the power of art is such that everyone should be able to experience it. If people don’t turn up to museums, then museums should turn up to them wherever they live. Art just makes us better people!”

Entwisle has spent decades in the superyacht industry and in 2019 created Yachting Gives Back to combat hunger and poverty in Mallorca. The charity quickly attracted support from the yachting community, evolving into a well-organised initiative that donates food, clothing and financial aid to organisations like Mallorca Sense Fam and Associació Tardor.

“Connecting to others is within every yachtie’s heart,” Entwisle said. “I like to think that, through our efforts of garnering support, we’ve been able to build a bridge between two communities: yachting and locals of our island.”

The Honours again showcased the transformative influence of the superyachting community, with this year’s laureates selected for their extraordinary achievements and purpose-driven leadership that brings positive change to the industry and wider society.

“The Honours evening stands as a testament to our community’s unwavering commitment to excellence and positive impact,” said Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director at Monaco Yacht Show, which was founded in 1991 and is long established as the world’s premier superyacht event.

“It’s a night where we not only celebrate remarkable achievements but also foster dialogue and connections that inspire lasting change. The passion and commitment of our honourees highlight the innovation and philanthropy that define our industry, and it was a privilege to showcase their remarkable stories.”

It was also a thumbs up from The Superyacht Life Foundation, a non-profit, commercially agnostic industry body that champions the positive people, places and projects surrounding the superyacht industry. Together with its 27 partners from various sectors within the industry, the organisation uses its status to educate, inform and engage, by presenting the world of superyachts to new audiences.

Entertainment at The Honours 2024

Dilan Saraç, Executive Director of The Superyacht Life Foundation, said: “The Honours built on the inaugural edition by showcasing examples of how the superyacht community can take a strong leadership role in multiple sectors. The stories we heard during the evening about the work of Nick, Frederic and Mike were truly inspirational and epitomise the reason we created The Honours.

“Thanks to the generosity of spirit they demonstrate, we can ensure that our industry continues to have a positive impact on the world around us. We can inspire other people within the industry and beyond to put their best foot forward and create lasting change that can benefit generations to come.”

The 2024 edition of The Honours was sponsored by Agusta, Feadship, Fred, Jetex, Richard Mille, Sanlorenzo and automotive partner Mercedes-Maybach.

Nominations for the 2025 edition of the Honours will open on December 2, 2024.
