The project has been billed as the largest superyacht facility in Asia-Pacific and one of the biggest in the world.

Superyacht Base has announced the award of the new Kobe Marina project to its consortium, known as Superyacht Base Kobe. The consortium consists of seven principal investors: Glion Group, Plan Do See, Horizon Yachts, Setouchi Brand Corporation, Creation Co Ltd, plus the SYL Monaco and SYL Japan branches of the Super Yacht Logistics Group.

The Superyacht Base Kobe Marina will offer a full-service opening for yachts in 2026, and stage a second opening with surrounding infrastructure in 2027. The marina is part of Kobe’s harbour and waterfront regeneration programme, which includes a transformation of industrial downtown areas including the Glion Arena Kobe, an indoor-sports complex adjacent to the marina.

The marina is a short walk from downtown Kobe, which features leading restaurants and high-end boutiques and showrooms for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Bentley, Bugatti and Ferrari. The city also offers proximity to three major airports, two with international and private-jet capabilities.

Yukio Shintani, owner of Creation Marine in Japan for over 40 years, and one of the spearheads of Superyacht Base Kobe, said: “It’s a very exciting day. For over two years, we’ve been working very hard planning this marina with our consortium partners, and there have been many changes, especially with the fluctuating construction costs.

Kobe Marina, Superyacht Base, Glion Group, Plan Do See, Horizon Yachts, Setouchi Brand Corporation, Creation Co Ltd, SYL Monaco, SYL Japan, Super Yacht Logistics Group, Yukio Shintani, Nigel Beatty, Osaka

Surrounding facilities will include a yacht club, restaurants, shops and offices

“However, we will soon have a superyacht marina in Japan that has the facilities of superyacht marinas in Monaco, France, Italy and south Florida, and can accommodate any size of yacht that has yet been built or even imagined. It’s a fantastic place for owners and guests but also for crew that are based long term at the marina. Kobe is a very vibrant city, and the marina is right in the heart of it.”

Situated 30km west of Osaka, Japan’s second-largest city, Kobe is also one of the country’s most populous cities and offers access to Osaka Bay and Seto Inland Sea, a protected 300nm-long body of water with about 3,000 islands. Japan has over 14,000 islands, stretching 3,000km from north to south.

Nigel Beatty, owner of SYL Monaco and Chairman of APSA (Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association), said: “The cruising potential in Japan is incredible. More and more international yachts are coming to Japan every year. The country has 50 per cent more coastline than the US, so there’s a massive area to explore, with many cruising destinations still undiscovered.

“With a Mediterranean climate in many parts of the country, and sub-tropical in others, there’s great winter cruising and while it might be a bit chilly to swim, there’s world-class skiing usually just a stone’s throw away from any yacht.”

Superyacht Base Kobe Marina will feature over 1.4km of usable linear superyacht quays, which can accommodate any size of vessel. Two quays will be approximately 350m long, with three others about 100m each. A newly built breakwater will provide an extra 200m-plus of dockage, and a liner floating dock will provide 300m of dockage for sub-60m yachts.

Multiple 400v 3-phase 150amp power pedestals will be installed as standard, while larger, custom shore-power electrical installations will be available to lease purchasers. Stern-to dockage will be available for all yachts up to about 80m.

The Kobe Yacht Club, marine offices, boutiques, cafes and restaurants are among the on-land attractions expected to be ready in 2026 and 2027. Plan Do See, a consortium member, is a hotel and hospitality operator and developer, and will be instrumental in this phase.

The Finnish brand is the first boatbuilder outside the US to use the Fathom® e-power system, which has been introduced on the flagship 400 GTC , on display at Boot Dusseldorf.

Saxdor’s 400 GTC can be fitted with the Fathom® e-power system

Following a partnership with Navico Group, Saxdor has become the first boatbuilder outside the US to use the Fathom® e-power system, an integrated lithium-ion auxiliary power-management solution “that sets a new standard in onboard energy efficiency”. The Finnish builder has debuted the technology on its flagship 400 GTC, among six Saxdor models on display at Boot Dusseldorf.

At the heart of the system is a generator function integrated into a special version of the yacht’s 400hp Mercury V10 outboards that allows the engines to act as generators, whether the boat is stationary or underway.

The 400 GTC is one of Saxdor’s two flagship models

When paired, the engines can produce up to 12kW of power, delivering it directly to the 48-volt Mastervolt lithium batteries for efficient recharging. By combining digital controls, intelligent load management and advanced monitoring capabilities, the Fathom® system produces power for all onboard appliances, while eliminating the noise, vibration and fumes of traditional generators.

Daniel Scharf, Saxdor’s Chief Product Officer, said: “The Fathom® e-power system is a game-changer for onboard power management. For boat owners, this means nearly ‘unlimited’ power for high-demand systems such as air-conditioning and stabilisers, offering an advanced alternative to traditional diesel generators.

The Saxdor 400 GTC features two Mercury V10 outboard engines

“By debuting this innovation on the Saxdor 400 GTC and expanding it to models equipped with V10-400 engines, we’re redefining energy efficiency and onboard comfort, reflecting our brand’s vision for modern boating.”

John Bennett, Navico Group’s VP and General Manager, Power Systems, added: “Saxdor is a valued customer, and we are thrilled about our collaboration to deliver a revolutionary power solution to the 400 GTC.

“Our 20 years of experience with lithium batteries, combined with our expertise in integrating our comprehensive product portfolio, have allowed us to develop a premium power system that will significantly enhance how Saxdor customers manage and monitor their power consumption, ensuring a more enjoyable and seamless experience on the water.”

The new 340 GTWA is Saxdor’s first 340 model

As well as the enclosed 400 GTC, Saxdor’s display at Boot includes the open 270 GTO, 320 GTO and 400 GTO models.

The line-up is completed by the Germany debuts of the 340 GTWA – Saxdor’s first wheelhouse walkaround – and the renewed 320 GTC. A world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Yachting Festival, the 340 GTWA is the first model in Saxdor’s new 340 line and includes large side terraces, an impressive feature considering its overall length of 35ft 4in and beam of 10ft 2in.

The 340 GTWA is Saxdor’s first wheelhouse walkaround

An upgrade of the model that debuted in 2021, the renewed 320 GTC features “a range of enhancements that take its design and functionality to the next level”, according to Saxdor. The enclosed yacht includes a reimagined aft layout featuring a new sofa and updated table design, as well as upgraded upholstery in the wheelhouse. DCH Marine represents Saxdor across Asia-Pacific.

Dong Hai is Vietnam’s largest new luxury superyacht

An Azimut Grande 32M, Dong Hai, has arrived in Vietnam, becoming the country’s first new 30m-plus semi-custom superyacht. Featuring exterior design by the late Stefano Righini and an interior by Achille Salvagni, the 105ft flybridge motoryacht will soon be the first luxury superyacht to charter in Halong Bay, arguably the most famous of Vietnam’s eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The charter initiative is a collaboration between the yacht’s owner, Azimut and Tam Son Yachting, the Italian builder’s exclusive dealer in Vietnam. Tam Son Yachting will manage all charter operations as it seeks to offer international visitors a unique, premium experience amid stunning natural scenery.

Vu Tran, the dealership’s Commercial Director, said: “We’re proud to have supported the owner in bringing Vietnam’s first customised superyacht to the country. This Azimut Grande 32M marks a significant milestone for Tam Son Yachting and Vietnam’s yachting industry.

Dong Hai will operate in Halong Bay as Vietnam’s first charter superyacht. Her presence will elevate both the yachting and tourism sectors in Vietnam, representing a breakthrough for Tam Son Yachting in expanding Azimut’s presence while contributing to the nation’s offerings.”

The yacht can host up to 10 overnight guests in a main-deck owner’s suite and four lower-deck guest cabins, while there’s also accommodation for five crew berths.

“I’m delighted to see my masterpiece completed exactly as I envisioned from the beginning,” said Mr Toan. “This project took approximately three years of dedicated work to achieve these outstanding results. I’d like to thank Tam Son Yachting and Azimut for supporting me in bringing this superyacht to Halong Bay, a World Heritage Site, which will enhance our ability to serve international visitors.”

Damen Yachting announced the sale of the latest Amels 60 hull, in late December, 2024.

The owner of the new 197-footer Amels 60 Project 6007 was represented in the sale by Rory and Sean Moran from Moran Yacht & Ship who are also supervising the final stages of outfitting of the yacht as well as managing its ambitious charter schedule post-delivery.

“We are delighted to once again collaborate with the Damen Yachting team on another Amels 60 Limited Editions project,” said Rory Moran, Moran Yacht & Ship. “It’s exciting to witness the platform’s evolution, especially seeing many enhancements from our first Amels 60 Limited Editions, Entourage, being carried forward and integrated into 6007. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the new owner and his family for their trust in our team, and we eagerly anticipate making her a highly successful charter vessel starting in summer 2025.”

In combination with this Amels 60 being available for charter, the owner and his energetic family also intend to maximise their ownership enjoyment and time on board with plans for global travel and discovery with an extensive itinerary spanning multiple oceans and continents.

Jan van Hogerwou, Commercial Executive for Damen Yachting, who represented Amels in the sale commented, “We are very excited to welcome a new owner into the world of Amels ownership.

“Throughout the sales process, it has been great to see how this Amels 60 has really been able to tick the boxes when it came to how this family interprets yacht ownership and how they want to use her – combining time together, travelling, enjoyment on board, world discovery and charter opportunities. I look forward to seeing them take delivery in just a few months’ time.”

The Amels 60, with hybrid power and propulsion technology, features exterior design by Espen Øino including the signature geometric window styling. In keeping with the Amels Limited Editions concept, the design features which have evolved throughout the build of the series have been incorporated into this latest Amels 60, including the extended sundeck, a feature originally added to hull number two which was also sold and managed by Moran Yacht & Ship.

Unique to this Amels 60 are the custom interiors designed by Harrison Eidsgaard, marking the first collaboration with the London-based studio on an Amels. The result is contemporary and welcoming styling providing a refined take on beach house luxury where natural materials and clever use of detailing ensure a warm and tactile finish.

Rose Damen, Managing Director of Damen Yachting, was also actively involved with the client throughout the sales process. “We are a family business so being able to welcome new families to Amels is always something I take particular pride in. Working with this family has been an absolute privilege and I am delighted that we have been able to play a part in helping them achieve their family dreams of spending time together on board to travel the world.”

The 853GT Amels 60, with berths for 12 guests, hails from a successful legacy of Amels Limited Editions. This latest 60m design was first introduced to the industry in August 2019 marking the first step towards the next-generation design series of the successful Limited Editions concept originally brought to market in 2005. To date, seven Amels 60s have now been sold with six delivered covering both private and charter use.

The two new models will be part of Aquila’s impressive nine-boat line-up, which will include the 32 Sport and 36 Sport outboard cruisers, the 47 Molokai from the Offshore series of high-speed outboard fishing boats, plus the 42 Yacht, 44 Yacht, new 50 Yacht and 54 Yacht inboard flybridge models.

Featuring an enclosed main deck, the new Coupe models are longer than Aquila’s popular Sport cruisers but offer a similarly narrow platform, contrasting the much wider Yacht models.

The 42 Coupe’s near-16ft beam makes it 5ft slimmer than the 42 Yacht, while the 46 Coupe has an almost 18ft beam, still 3ft 6in narrower than the shorter 44 Yacht.

Designed for impressive performance, the 42 Coupe and 46 Coupe are fitted with the Aquila Hydro Glide Foil System™, which combines with double-stepped hulls to improve stability, fuel efficiency and range with both inboard and outboard engine options.

Both Coupe models feature a flexible seating-sunbed set-up in the cockpit and an enclosed saloon with a galley, L-shaped dinette, helm station, sunroof and flip-up door to the foredeck.

As well as being longer and wider than the 42 Coupe, the 46 Coupe is distinguished by a cockpit featuring two double sunpads and barstools facing the aft galley to port, as well as a differently configured bow area.

In terms of accommodation, both Coupe models have two en-suite cabins, one in each hull. The 42 Coupe has aft-facing beds in both cabins, while the 46 Coupe is configured with an aft-facing bed in the port cabin and a window-facing bed in the larger owner’s suite to starboard.

Jean Raas, CEO of Aquila USA, said: “Aquila has always skated to where the puck is going, and the Coupe series represents an opportunity that we see in the market in between a sport boat and yacht.

“We wanted to meet the needs of boaters who have outgrown day boats, but maybe don’t want a full-size yacht, as well as current yacht owners who want to downsize without sacrificing performance and comfort.”
