In related news, on Tuesday, Excess Catamarans announced the appointment of 38 South Yacht Sales as the brand’s second official dealer in Australia. This expansion of its international dealer network follows recent partnerships with NextWave Yachting in Hong Kong and Primus Marine in Thailand.

38 South Yacht Sales will represent the full range of Excess catamaran models and will be exclusively responsible for the states of Queensland and Victoria in Australia. Meanwhile, Flagstaff Marine, the brand’s long-standing partner, will continue to serve as the exclusive representative of Excess Catamarans in New South Wales.

This strategic move aims to strengthen the brand’s presence in one of the most mature markets in the Asia-Pacific region, while also addressing the growing demand for innovative and segmented catamarans. Excess is now providing Australian customers with a more personalised and detail-oriented ownership process, from the moment they step into a dealership through to after-sales support.

“I am delighted to welcome 38 South Yacht Sales on board to represent Excess Catamarans in Queensland and Victoria,” said Cosmas Grelon, Excess & Lagoon Catamarans Asia-Pacific Sales Manager. “It will be a great addition to our network in Australia.

“With the brand-new Excess 13 on order with 38 South Yacht Sales, and the Excess 14 recently touching down in Sydney with Flagstaff, all the pieces are coming together to see Excess Catamarans reach new heights down under.”

“We have been enthusiastic about becoming an Excess dealer since the brand was first launched, so I am delighted to receive the opportunity to work with Flagstaff Marine to represent Excess Catamarans here in Australia,” said Rohan Veal, Managing Director, 38 South Yacht Sales.

The seventh Amels 60 has been shown exiting its production hall at Damen Yachting’s principal shipyard in Vlissingen on the southwest coast of the Netherlands. Billed as the yacht’s ‘grand reveal’, the images capture a significant milestone in the build of Amels 6007, the seventh yacht from the 197ft Amels Limited Editions design.

The 853GT yacht, which has a 3,605sqft interior, is heading into her final build stage and outfitting before delivery in early summer 2025, with plans set for a spectacular ceremony.

Joppe Osté, Damen Yachting Project Manager of the Amels 60, said: “One year ago, this Amels 60 arrived at our shipyard here in the Netherlands for outfitting. All the work over the last 12 months has been building up to this very moment and we are incredibly proud to see and be part of this yacht’s launch.

“It’s an important moment for all the Damen Yachting team but also our co-makers and the owner. We are now fully focused on the final build phase so we can ensure this yacht is ready for the lifetime at sea that she was built to enjoy.”

The Amels 60’s design has evolved since the first hull

Damen Yachting and Espen Øino International are responsible for the Amels 60’s naval architecture and exterior design respectively. Harrison Eidsgaard has designed the custom interiors of hull seven, which represents the London-based studio’s first design collaboration with Amels and includes accommodation for 12 guests and 13 crew.

“The result is a contemporary and welcoming style that provides a refined take on beach house luxury, where natural materials and a clever use of detailing ensure a warm and tactile finish,” Damen Yachting stated. “The evolved interior design delivers a warm environment with varied textures and colourways.”

Amels 6007 is due for delivery in the early summer

Chris Callahan, spokesperson for Moran Yacht & Ship, which represents the yacht’s owner, said: “We are thrilled to reach this significant milestone as the project accelerates towards its summer delivery. Despite our involvement beginning relatively recently, we are delighted that the owner was able to infuse many personal elements into the yacht, transforming it into a true home.

“It’s also fantastic to see that many of the customisations and platform improvements our team implemented into Entourage (Amels 6002) have been carried through to subsequent builds, including Amels 6007. On behalf of our entire organisation, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the talented craftsmen and the owner’s team on this remarkable achievement.”

The 31st edition of DIBS, the global luxury yacht and lifestyle event, held at the easy-on-the-eye Dubai Harbour location once again this year, concluded its five-day duration on Sunday, attracting a projected 35,000 attendees (the exact figure to be confirmed in coming weeks).

Sunday night’s closing followed a reportedly impressive five days of maritime and lifestyle sales, informed discussions, knowledge sharing and partnership developments that will make a significant impact on the yachting industry.

Visitors and exhibitors in attendance hailed from more than 60 countries, said its organiser, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), demonstrating why Dubai is one of the most desirable destinations for nautical leisure tourism and business.

Notable sales transactions were conducted by Poland-founded shipyard Sunreef, it reported. It also presented an international premiere of the Ultima 55 – its first hull manufactured in its new UAE shipyard in Ras Al Khaimah, a more compact model that squarely takes a bite into the more modestly-scaled powercat segment.

Sunreef founder-CEO Francis Lapp (centre), launched the shipyards’s first UAE production model – the Ultima 55 – last Friday at DIBS

At DIBS 2025, Sunreef also showed its 80 Sunreef Power and a solar-electric 80 Sunreef Power Eco, and unveiled interior image renderings of the 36.25m ultramodern catamaran, the Ultima 111. The shipyard sold five of its DIBS fleet, including the Ultima 55 and Sunreef 60.

Sanlorenzo, the Italian shipbuilder with more than 60 years’ experience in the industry – showing  Gulf premieres of SX112, SL90A, and the SD96 models – acknowledged the importance of attending DIBS to forge lasting relationships with people from across the sector including new and existing customers.

The Ferretti Group presented the Riva Diva 82’, the Ferretti Yachts 860, and debuted its Wally wallytender48 to the Middle East. Azimut Yachts showed the Fly 53, Fly 58 and Fly 68 and the new Seadeck S7. On DIBS 2025 participation and sales Mohammed Al Shaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft noted, “Gulf Craft has been a defining presence at the Dubai International Boat Show for over 30 years, driven by innovation, craftsmanship, and a commitment to excellence. This year, we showcased 18 vessels, reaffirming our role in shaping the future of yacht design. A highlight was the sale of the inaugural Majesty 145, reflecting strong market demand for our forward-thinking superyacht concepts.

“We also unveiled our Superyacht Service Centre in Ajman, a cutting-edge facility capable of servicing yachts up to 600 tonnes, strengthening Dubai’s position as a superyacht hub. Our commitment to the maritime industry continues with new initiatives designed to nurture the next generation of yacht innovators.”

The global luxury yacht and lifestyle show closed on Sunday night, following an impressive five days of sales

With 1,000-plus brands attending, the 2025 show was full of attractions from the yachting and superyacht segment, as well as from watersports – a growing luxury and lifestyle sector – seafaring gadgets and equipment sectors.

As a first for the 2025 edition of DIBS, a dedicated brokerage area on the harbour housed a number of leading luxury yacht brokerages including Bush & Noble, BehneMar and Burgess. There was also an increased focus on luxury real estate reflecting demand for bespoke marina living, and support for start-ups with the launch of an Innovation Hub which provided a platform for eight of the industry’s newest SMEs.

Anastazja Kociokowska, Business Development and ESG Manager at Burgess discussed the firm’s participation this year. “We’ve had a presence at the show for several years and this edition has been brilliant – each year it gets bigger and better,” she said. “As a market-leading full-service superyacht provider, ranging from sale and purchase, charter and management, as well as new build, procurement and crew services, we’ve enjoyed great conversations at the show which we’re sure will develop into some great business.

“We’re already making our plans for next year and the brokerage section has been a great addition – we’ve enjoyed being positioned in the marina within the show.”

Italy’s Cantieri di Pisa and Pulina Exclusive Interiors studio teamed up at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show to present the interior design of the new Akhir 44, a 44m, 395GT superyacht featuring exterior styling by Antonio Luxardo, the shipyard’s Chief Designer.

Akhir is the shipyard’s most famous line of yachts and the first hull of the 44 will be built in carbon and glass composite, and reach a top speed of 35 knots with three 2,600hp MTU engines.

Marco Massabò, CEO of Cantieri di Pisa (click for interview with shipyard owner Enrico Gennasio), said: “The first model in the new series will combine the iconic lines of the original range with various characteristics designed to meet current market demand. We decided to commission these interiors featuring incredible liveability from Pulina, the high-end Italian design firm with a multi-disciplinary approach.

“The yacht’s spaces offer maximum comfort, understated elegance and a unique on-board experience for cosmopolitan owners attracted by a brand that helped write the history of yachting and is still a force for innovation in the industry today, not least thanks to its collaboration with such illustrious partners.”

Pulina Exclusive Interiors, which has offices in Pisa and Shanghai, was founded by Alessandro Pulina. Staff include interior and product designers from various backgrounds, and the company focuses on interiors for yachts, private residences and hotels, with clients across Europe and Asia.

Pulina said: “The spaces on Akhir 44 are characterised by our carefully curated selection of materials and by innovative architectural solutions that balance energy in motion with a sense of spatial harmony. A deliberate contrast between warm materials like bleached oak and cold metal and steel finishes gives the settings a sporty, technological look.

“The fresh, neutral colour palette enhances the liveability of the interiors and creates sensations of lightness and openness. Every on-board space is designed to optimise the guest experience by balancing comfort and adventure. Every element is designed to express responsible luxury based on both aesthetics and wellbeing, with the aim of offering an exclusive yachting experience.”

Featuring a special metal-effect lacquer ceiling and Cadorin wood flooring, the main deck is fully focused on guests, with a spacious saloon that culminates in a ‘floating’ metal-and-glass staircase.

‘The New Nautical Code: Innovation, Influence and Experience’ was the theme of this year’s Annual Dubai Boat Show Leisure Yachting Conference on February 18. Over 300 industry professionals attended the one-day conference at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, located beside the entrance to Dubai Harbour, host of the Dubai International Boat Show from February 19-23 (click for tickets).

The conference’s theme acted as a springboard for discussions around technology in the sector, AI and autonomous cruising, digital resilience, sustainability mandates, marketing and how to reach UHNWIs, one of the key audience groups for yachting.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, and Senior Advisor to the Dubai International Boat Show, and Alex Nicholl, Dubai World Trade Centre’s Vice President – New Industries, welcomed guests and led the opening remarks. Both underscored the development of the sector and the importance of collaboration to continue furthering these advancements.

Hareb said: “Each year, Dubai International Boat Show attracts the most prestigious leaders and decision makers who gather to decide the future of the industry. Luxury yachts consider Dubai their premier destination and we are working with our partners to achieve the ambitious target of a total 52,000 berths.”

Initial panel discussions centred around market trends around the Gulf, including ongoing developments in Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi’s wellness and leisure expansions.

Dubai’s status as the gateway to the Gulf’s expanding leisure marine market was also discussed, with a focus on the city’s world-class marinas, brokerage services and luxury developments. The UAE is becoming a preferred destination for billionaires, with wealth surging by 39.5 per cent in 2024, aligning with rising demand for yacht charters, sales and related services.

Transaction trends were discussed, with fractional ownership identified as an area that has not become popular globally. However, off-market transactions – which have seen a 20 per cent increase – were discussed in depth.

Mohamed Al Zaabi, founder and CEO of Dubai-based Royal Yachts, said: “There are three factors behind the 20 per cent increase in off-market transactions. The first is privacy, especially in our region, as many owners don’t feel comfortable listing their assets publicly. The second is scarcity as there is a limited number of top-tier yachts in the market.

“The third is speed as transactions tend to be considerably faster than a publicly listed yacht. This type of transaction strengthens the role of the broker who has access to these sellers. However, it might make it harder to track price trends.”

Technology’s impact on the maritime industry was one of the overarching themes throughout the conference. Officials discussed how AI and automation are reshaping navigation and enhancing yacht performance, safety and guest experience.

Green technology, specifically the link between AI and sustainability – and its effect specifically on the luxury sector – were also discussed.

Nicolas Lapp, co-founder of Polish shipyard Sunreef Yachts, which also has a production facility in UAE, said: “We are seeing more people asking for the entire boat to be sustainable. In turn, we get more requests from customers who hadn’t considered catamarans in the past but are now looking for something more eco-responsible.

“Our goal is always to seek solutions to problems. We’re consistently looking at how we can use less energy. The cheapest energy will always be the wind, so now we’re working on more automated sail plans. We’ve just begun rolling out AI technology including making lighter boats and for sailing performance, as occasionally AI can calculate a quicker route.”

The conference also saw a series of panel discussions leading on how to be adaptive and create bespoke services for the new elite owner expectations. Industry leaders explored the ongoing topic of how UHNWIs continue to redefine trends in the luxury segment and how they can be targeted.

Jad Zakkak Migliorini, Chief Marketing Officer of Italian builder Azimut, said: “15 years ago, people were looking into size, then we saw a second phase where volume became a purchasing driver. Nowadays it’s all about the experience, the emotional experience, especially when considering the new billionaires. We need to surprise them, need to create some sort of immersion … otherwise it’s just a product.

“The average age of yacht owners has moved from 65-70 to 40-45. This requires us to engage them with emotional experience – the desire of owning something they weren’t initially considering.”

The conference was followed by the five-day Dubai International Boat Show, the Middle East’s largest maritime and lifestyle event, featuring 1,000 brands and 200 yachts and watercraft.

Curated for motoring fans, Supercar Avenue returned, to giving DIBS attendees a glimpse into life in the fast lane, starring a collection that includes the Koenigsegg Regera; Pagani Huayra; Bugatti Chiron; Lamborghini Countach; Ferrari LaFerrari; and Mclaren Speedtail.

The Watersports area has a range of curiosities, from jet-skiing to flyboarding, with professionals ready to demonstrate their talents. Meanwhile, the ‘Proudly UAE’ area will pay homage once more to the maritime legacy of the Emirates and the local brands that represent the country internationally. And as the sun slinks below the horizon, Nikki Beach Yacht Club, an offshoot of Dubai’s hip bar/nightclub, is serving an array of light bites and refreshing drinks throughout the day and ups its tempo in the evening with the help of resident DJs.

The asymmetrical Flybridge model offers three balconies on two levels, and a new interior collaboration with a Hong Kong design studio.

Tony Castro designed the Galeon 620 Fly

Galeon has revealed CGIs and details of its upcoming 620 Fly, which is scheduled to debut in the latter half of 2025, potentially at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

Featuring an overall length of 65ft 7in and a 20ft-plus beam, the model is part of the builder’s Flybridge series. It sits between the 560 Fly that debuted at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival and the 640 Fly, which was unveiled in its updated version at the Boot Dusseldorf indoor show this January.

The 620 Fly includes large beach platforms on both sides

However, the 620 Fly design by Tony Castro – who has worked with Galeon since 2001 – has given the brand’s iconic ‘beach mode’ a new twist. Instead of two balconies on both sides of the main deck, the new model includes three drop-down terraces: one on the starboard side of the main deck and two flanking the hydraulic swim platform.

The large port beach platform can even be accessed by a door from the full-beam master suite, which enjoys an open view of the water and direct sea access. The starboard beach platform is slightly thinner, but still completes a three-sided beach area by the water.

The flybridge has three separate social zones

The swim platform and beach platforms are accessed by steps from the cockpit’s starboard side, where further stairs lead up to an impressively large flybridge.

The top deck is backed by a large, three-sided lounging area that sits aft of a C-shaped dinette to port and a U-shaped wet bar to starboard. Forward is another C-shaped sofa, which accompanies the bench-seat helm station to port.

The main deck has only one side deck and balcony, to starboard

The main deck has an asymmetrical layout, with only a full side deck to starboard, where the drop-down balcony can create a bar over the water once stools are installed.

For the interior, Galeon is working for the first time with In Situ & Partners, a Hong Kong-based studio founded in 2011 by Yacine Bensalem. Design traits include rounded cabinetry, ambient lighting and integrated air-conditioning vents, while owners can choose from five décor themes – Ocean, Amber, Terra, Pearl and Ivory – each inspired by natural materials and colours.

The interior is by Hong Kong-based In Situ & Partners

The spacious saloon has a widebody design to port, featuring a C-shaped sofa and an adjustable table that can be lowered and covered with cushions to create a large lounging area. The sofa faces a long bar counter to starboard, where there’s also a retractable TV and an opening window that creates an open connection to the waterside bar.

Forward to port is an open galley with a central island, while to starboard are the lower-deck staircase and twin-seat helm station. Pantograph doors in the galley and by the helm both offer side access to the flexible foredeck, while the central windscreen can be moved to the side to create an indoor flow of air from bow to stern.

The full-beam master suite includes a door to the port beach platform

The lower deck can be configured with three or four guest cabins, including a full-beam master suite and a forward VIP. Aft, the crew cabin includes two berths, a kitchenette and a bathroom.

Asiamarine has represented Galeon since 2016 and covers Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, while also managing a network of dealers in the rest of the region.

Following a fourth-quarter order intake of €230.2 million, Sanlorenzo SpA (‘the Sanlorenzo Group’) announced €930.4 million in net revenue from the sales of new yachts in 2024, representing a 10.7 per cent increase from €840.2 million in 2023.

The Group also announced a net backlog of €1,019.8 million, of which €623.1 million refers to 2025 and €396.7 million for subsequent years. The Italian company issued its preliminary consolidated results for the financial year as of December 31, 2024, following approval by its Board of Directors.

“Even in a challenging context such as 2024, Sanlorenzo SpA confirms its ability to keep collecting a significant amount of orders despite waiting lists extending up to 2028, thanks to the desirability of its product portfolio and brands – complementary and non-overlapping – each exclusively positioned at the top end of their respective market segment,” the Group stated.

Last August, the Group – which includes the Sanlorenzo and Bluegame brands – acquired the Nautor Swan shipyard, having acquired the Simpson Marine dealership in Asia-Pacific in March. The Group also established Sanlorenzo Med, bringing together new commercial offices in Monaco and Cannes – both opened in the second half of the year – alongside offices in Palma de Mallorca.

The Group’s net revenue from new yacht sales (‘Net Revenues New Yachts’) were driven by the excellent performance of Sanlorenzo’s Superyacht Division (+17.6 per cent YoY), and the consolidation of 2023 levels by the brand’s Yacht Division (+1.8 per cent YoY) and the Bluegame brand (+1.0% YoY), the latter despite the relative weakness of the sub-24m market.

Additionally, newly acquired Nautor Swan contributed €38.3 million in five months of consolidation, from August to December.

Geographically, a significant rebound was observed in the Americas (+58.4 per cent YoY), while the MEA region (+55.4% YoY) continued its strong development.

Europe (-0.9 per cent YoY) consolidated its 2023 level – up 38.3 per on 2022 – while APAC (-2.3 per cent YoY) “faired relatively well given the weakness of the market which in 2024 impacted the broader top-end luxury industry segment”, according to the Group.

EBITDA for 2024 was €176.4 million, which represented a 12.0 per cent increase on 2023 and a margin of 19.0 per cent on Net Revenues New Yachts. EBIT stood at €139.3 million, representing a 10.6 per cent year-on-year increase and a margin of 15.0 per cent on Net Revenues New Yachts, with limited dilution from the acquisition of Nautor Swan.

The Group also announced organic net investments of €49.3 million, of which over 88 per cent was dedicated to industrial capacity expansion and development of new models and product ranges.

Net investments related to changes in the consolidation perimeter for the inclusion of Nautor Swan and Simpson Marine amounted to €138.8 million, bringing total net investments for the period to €188.1 million. The Group also announced a net cash position of €29.1 million as of December 31, 2024.

Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo SpA, said: “Our solid growth trajectory, confirmed by achieving results both in terms of revenues and margins, highlights the effectiveness of our ‘Haute Couture’ business model and the ability of our team to successfully navigate global markets and close valuable acquisitions, even in uncertain times like 2024.

“We are steadily pursuing the Group’s long-term vision and executing the strategic objectives set out in our business plan, while maintaining a solid financial position and liquidity that allow us to evaluate and seize every opportunity to further strengthen our brands.

“In line with our Road to 2030 strategy, our spirit of innovation continues to permeate every aspect of the Group’s activities, from concept design to cutting-edge technological solutions, guiding a strategic path that reflects the company’s ambitions and vision as a pioneer in sustainable yachting technologies.

“On the commercial side, we are further strengthening our direct presence in key international yachting hubs, ensuring close proximity to our select clientele, strengthening our competitive advantages, and consolidating the pillars of excellence that define the Sanlorenzo experience.

“We look to the future with confidence, focusing on the execution of our projects while leveraging the values that have always distinguished us – desirability, scarcity and true sustainable luxury – supported by a strong drive for innovation that remains faithful to the brand’s heritage.

The Yachtmaster concluded with team-building activities in Marrakesh’s ‘old town’

The 25th Benetti Yachtmaster was held in Marrakesh at the Fairmont Royal Palm Hotel, which hosted over 200 guests including captains, surveyors, owner representatives and other industry experts. The US edition of the 25th Benetti Yachtmaster will be held in Miami from April 2-3.

In the two-day event in Morocco, the Benetti Yachtmaster – launched in 2000 by the late Paolo Vitelli – presented the shipyard’s latest products and sustainable technologies, and new customer-service offerings.

The first day was devoted to a coaching session in the style of a serious game. Sitting around a table, groups of 10 people used ‘conversation cards’ to stimulate discussion around work issues. Day two enabled participants to get a closer look at Benetti’s vision in terms of innovation and design, sustainability and assistance, with input by Lusben, the refit division of the Azimut-Benetti Group.

Marco Valle, Azimut-Benetti’s CEO, opened the plenary session by celebrating the 25th edition of the Yachtmaster and its significance for relationships with stakeholders, while also analysing Azimut-Benetti’s 25th successive year topping the Global Order Book for 24m-plus yachts.

Massimiliano Casoni, Benetti’s General Manager, focused on the collaboration between the shipyard and the leading players in the boat building industry. To consolidate these relationships, the shipyard conducted interviews in 2024 using the Net Promoter Score (NPS), a tool for measuring customer satisfaction and understanding customers’ propensity to recommend the brand. Together with other tools, the interview results helped identify Benetti’s strengths and areas for improvement.

Massimiliano Casoni, General Manager of Benetti

“Benetti’s success is based on constant dialogue with the various players, including captains, who play a key role in telling the yacht builder what the real onboard requirements are,” Casoni said. “This is an ongoing dialogue that’s far more than the mere delivery of a product. Benetti’s goal is to create made-to-measure yachts that meet the specific needs of owners, captains and crew, so guaranteeing an exclusive yachting experience.”

Daniela Petrozzi, Benetti’s Sales Manager, illustrated the order backlog up to the end of 2028, with 60 yachts under construction and on order totalling over 2.7km in length. Petrozzi broke down the backlog by geographical region – Europe (35%), MEA and APAC (33%), Americas (32%) – and thanked the captains, brokers and surveyors who contributed to 75 per cent of the contracts.

Sebastiano Vida, Benetti’s Head of Product, spoke about Benetti’s self-billed role as ‘The House of Yachting’. He also outlined the shipyard’s new initiative, ‘Perspective from the Bridge’, which enabled captains to explain their point of view at a roundtable focusing on topics such as innovation, sustainability and insights into owners’ ways of enjoying their yachts.

Gilberto Francesini, Benetti’s R&D Project Manager, and Marco Coiatelli, Custom Head of Engineering, presented the shipyard’s Green Route and anticipated future developments. Azimut-Benetti’s study of alternative fuels has led to the adoption of HVO biofuel, while green methanol from renewable sources may be used on Benetti yachts from later this year. A methanol engine room simulator (based on a new 68m project) will be installed in Livorno to help captains familiarise themselves with the functions, safety and management of this new solution.

Pierluigi Rago, Benetti’s Class Warranty Manager, and Luigi Spina, Custom Warranty Manager, illustrated the new assistance programmes serving owners and crews of the Class and Custom yacht lines, offering personalised support for the yacht’s entire life cycle. Every unit benefits from a dedicated Service Manager during the warranty period and a global network of service points in Europe, the Americas, Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Ferdinando Pilli, General Manager of Lusben

Ferdinando Pilli, Lusben’s General Manager since September 2024, outlined changes in the refit division, as well as the new services and infrastructure following completion of the €12 million investment package in the three-year plan. He also spoke about future projects at the Livorno site to support captains and crews.

“The division’s recent results confirm that investments in infrastructure and personnel in the last few years are bearing fruit,” Pilli said. “We’re still investing to make stays more enjoyable for captains and crews and we’re sure that all this, along with the quality of our work, will enable Lusben to consolidate its role as the refit hub for the entire Mediterranean.”

Gianni Paladino, Lusben’s Sales Manager, announced that the company is managing Benetti’s after-sales service from 2025. A new five-year maintenance contract covers preventive and corrective maintenance, refitting services and integrated support for spare-parts supply, as well as technical documentation and consulting.

In the second part of the day, participants headed to the medina, Marrakesh’s ‘old town’, where they enjoyed team-building activities, underlining the Yachtmaster event’s focus on synergy and relationships.

Azimut’s Fly 72 (click for Review) won the Cabin Cruisers, Motor Yachts, Trawlers category in the 2025 edition of the Miami Innovation Awards. The awards are organised by the US-based National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI), and were held during February’s Miami International Boat Show.

The Miami Innovation Awards recognise shipyards and suppliers that introduce original and innovative products to the market. The jury, composed of seven BWI members who personally test products throughout the year, selected Azimut’s Fly 72 as a winner for multiple reasons.

“Pulling from fresh interior styling trends, the Azimut Fly 72 offers beautiful, functional spaces onboard that have been totally redesigned, from fluid lines, unique saloon and galley material selections, and well-thought-out accommodation spaces,” the jury stated. “The flybridge and bow are two spaces you’ll want to spend a lot of time.”

The second-biggest model in Azimut’s Fly Series of flybridge motoryachts, the Fly 72 features exterior lines by Alberto Mancini and interiors by architect and designer Fabio Fantolino, and had its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival.

Mancini has designed most of Azimut’s current S, Fly, Grande (superyacht) and Seadeck models, starting with the S10 and S8 sport fly models that debuted in 2019. The Fly 72 marked Fantolino’s yacht-design debut, after the Italian built his reputation in residences and hospitality.

Founded in 1969 by the late Paolo Vitelli and part of the Azimut-Benetti Group, Azimut produces models from 42-144ft across seven series: Verve, Atlantis, Magellano, Fly, S, Grande and Seadeck. The brand builds in five production facilities in Italy (Avigliana, Fano, Viareggio, Savona and Varazze) and one in Brazil (Itajai), and has an international dealer network spanning 80 countries.

Sunreef Yachts’ Ultima 55 will have its global debut at the 31st Dubai International Boat Show, which is being held from February 19-23 at Dubai Harbour, the event’s host venue since 2022. Sunreef’s display at the Middle East’s biggest boat show also includes an 80 Sunreef Power and a solar-electric 80 Sunreef Power Eco showing at Booth MD-25.

However, the catamaran builder’s smallest model at Dubai Harbour could garner much of the attention, as the 55-footer is the first model from the Ultima range of power catamarans – and the first boat to be completed at Sunreef’s UAE production facility.

The first Ultima 55 embarked on sea trials in mid-February after leaving Sunreef’s shipyard in Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost of the UAE’s seven emirates. The coupe-style powercat has a beam of 18ft 4in and features an open aft deck with two sunpads and fold-down sides. The lower deck can include two or three double cabins plus a single cabin for either a guest or crew.

Sunreef was founded by Francis Lapp in Poland in 2002 and has two shipyards in the north-coast city of Gdansk. It acquired its first overseas shipyard by signing a cooperation agreement with Ras Al Khaimah Maritime City and securing a 65,000sqm land reserve, where it developed facilities and began production in 2023.

In March 2024, Sunreef hosted the shipyard’s official opening, with guests of honour including His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and Lech Wałęsa, the former Polish President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.

To date, the facility has been dedicated to production of the Ultima series of powercats, which include the 44, 55, 66, 77, 88 and 111 models.
