Adam Blackmore and Bryan Tse have launched Iseo Yachting, a yacht sales and service company that kick-started the year with a major presence at the Thailand International Boat Show.

Adam Blackmore

Adam Blackmore and Bryan Tse have co-founded Iseo Yachting, which is headquartered in Hong Kong. The company offers a range of services covering brokerage, charter, yacht management, and maintenance of yachts in Asia and beyond.

Iseo Yachting had a strong start to the year as it presented the 40m Silentworld charter yacht at the second Thailand International Boat Show in Phuket, where Blackmore spoke at the Thailand Yachting Conference ahead of the event.

Blackmore has worked in yacht sales since 2007 and been based in Asia since 2013, formerly working for Simpson Marine, Asia Yachting and Asiamarine, where he was Commercial Director and a Sales Broker for Fraser.

Iseo Yachting, Adam Blackmore, Bryan Tse, Silentworld, Thailand International Boat Show, Phuket, Thailand Yachting Conference

Bryan Tse

Tse has spent over a decade in the yachting and shipping industry, and is the founder and Managing Director of Global Yacht Services, which specialises in yacht management and maintenance. He will continue in that role while also supporting Iseo Yachting clients.

Blackmore and Tse collaborated after perceiving a gap in the market “where brokers had difficulty finding reliable after-sales services for their client’s yachts, and yacht management services often lacked a sales mindset”. Combining their networks and experience, they created Iseo Yachting to “fill this gap” and offer an end-to-end solution for yacht owners and crew.

Blackmore said: “We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Iseo Yachting, a company that reflects our passion and dedication to the world of yachting. We believe that owning or chartering a yacht is truly a lifestyle choice and one our clients have worked hard to make.

“That’s why we’re committed to providing our clients with the best possible service, from finding their dream yacht to ensuring its optimal performance and maintenance. Creating unforgettable experiences on board drives me to go the extra mile.”

Gulf Craft Majesty 111

Yacht Sourcing has been appointed by Gulf Craft as the exclusive dealer for the UAE builder’s Majesty and Nomad brands in Indonesia. Gulf Craft’s newest models include the Majesty 111 (REVIEW, Issue 74) that debuted at last year’s Dubai International Boat Show, just a few months after the premiere of the Majesty 72 (REVIEW, Issue 71) at the 2022 Abu Dhabi International Boat Show.

Other Majesty models include the 62 and 62M, while Majesty superyachts include the popular 100, 120, 140 and the upcoming 160 designed with Cristiano Gatto. The Nomad series includes the Nomad 101 that premiered in Dubai last year along with the 95 SUV, 75 SUV, 70 SUV and 65.

Boum Senous, founder and Director of Yacht Sourcing, believes the large volume and long range of Majesty and Nomad models make them suitable for Indonesia, which is one of the world’s largest archipelagos.

“With the growing demand for superyachts in the region, Yacht Sourcing’s appointment as the exclusive dealer for Majesty and Nomad superyachts in Indonesia is poised to make a significant impact,” Senous said. “This strategic collaboration was the culmination of a lot of positive work last year, and has set the stage for a vibrant and prosperous 2024 at Yacht Sourcing.”

Founded in 1982, Gulf Craft has built over 10,000 boats and today operates two manufacturing facilities – a 462,000sqft facility in Umm Al Quwain and a 100,000sqft facility in the Maldives – as well as a service centre in Ajman.

It produces yachts and boats across four ranges – Majesty, Nomad, Oryx and Silvercraft – as well as Touring Passenger Vessels. In 2021, it delivered the Majesty 175, the world’s largest composite production superyacht.

IYC has followed up on its ‘transformative’ 2023 by starting the new year with the sale of the Deep Blue 115 new build by Italy’s Cantiere delle Marche, having announced an official partnership with the Italian shipyard last year. Sold to an American client and set to be delivered in 2026, the 35m motor yacht features an exterior by Horacio Bozzo and an interior by Giorgio Cassetta.

Jamie Swaine, an IYC Sales Consultant who represented the buyer, said: “This one-off creation in partnership with Cantiere delle Marche for my client has been an exceptional experience and one that demonstrates the reason they’re the leader in full-custom explorer yachts.

“With a truly one-of-a-kind design, this Deep Blue 115 offers the client a world cruising platform that’s unrivalled in its functionality and sophistication, and demonstrates the strength of the IYC/CdM partnership and what we’re able to offer our client base.”

Deep Blue 115 has a 4,000nm-plus range, a port-opening tender garage, a large swimming pool on the aft main deck, a main saloon with sliding doors on both sides, a foldable starboard terrace next to the dining area, plus accommodation for 10 guests and seven crew.

Vasco Buonpensiere, CdM’s founder and CEO, said: “This success is the result of superb teamwork between Cantiere delle Marche and the owner’s team, led by Jamie Swaine of IYC who has perfectly coordinated the joint efforts of the shipyard, the tech team of Dohle, the designers and the owner. This is another testimony to the strength of the partnership between IYC and CdM.”

IYC’s latest CdM sale helped maintain the strong momentum of 2023, which Executive Chairman Stefanos Makrymichalos described as one of the company’s “most transformative years”. IYC’s yacht sales totalled over US$550 million and included the 70m Lurssen Saint Nicolas (2007) and a trio of 70m new-build Admiral superyachts.

“It was a year of growth where we saw almost every department’s revenues increase beyond our expectations,” Makrymichalos said.

IYC has the world’s largest charter fleet by units and last year it surpassed 150 yachts under charter management, with additions including the new 43.5m This Is It powercat, 44m La La Land, 47m KB6, 50m Ela, 56m Galileo and 68m Loon. The company also added the innovative Reserve function to its online booking platform, which accounts for about a quarter of its retail charters.

Furthermore, IYC almost doubled its yacht management fleet from January to December 2023, while other highlights included the opening of the company’s 15th office, in Dubai.

Michel Chryssicopoulos, IYC’s Global Managing Partner, said: “2023 marked a great year for IYC, not only in terms of number of sales but also for exceeding the milestone of 150 superyachts in our global charter fleet. The revamped marketing team delivered amazing results and the company’s substantial investments in digital are now delivering tangible results for the company’s superyacht owners.

“New partnerships and alliances, in tandem with notable new build deliveries expected in 2024, will further solidify the company’s leading position in the global superyacht industry.”

The Siam stands out for its ability to meet the growing demands of today’s modern traveller while simultaneously staying true to honouring Thailand’s heritage. Genuine kindness, authenticity and a caring attitude are all Siamese characteristic that this hotel strives to maintain. Be it for an overnight escape or ultimate private riverside adventure, its no secret why The Siam was crowned as one of the “most iconic hotels of the last century” by Architectural Digest Magazine. LUXUO speaks to Nick Downing, the general manager at The Siam hotel to find out about the hotel’s unique offerings, curated artworks and future plans for expansion.

Tell us about your experience in hospitality and how it all started?

Being an only child of parents who travelled avidly, I suppose I was always destined to fall in love with hotels and different cultures. While I was at university studying Business and Information Systems, I actually wrote to all the five-star hotels seeking an entry level job. Luckily Hyatt Regency Perth offered me the night porter position and the rest is history. I was studying during the day and working the nightshift. Hyatt was my hospitality foundation; including me in all their training programs and promoting me through the ranks and eventually ended up transferring me to Park Hyatt Canberra as the Front Office Manager. From a solid ten-year period with Hyatt, opportunities opened ahead of me to take amazing positions ranging from opening Palazzo Versace to amazing experiences in Maldives, the Seychelles, Cambodia, Thailand and other countries around the Indian Ocean.

When did you join The Siam hotel?

I actually joined The Siam family in late 2016.

What is the DNA of The Siam hotel and how does the hotel differentiate itself from other high-end boutique hotels in Bangkok?

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

I always think words such as “luxury” and “boutique” are quite generic words these days without real meaning. I often feel “boutique” hotels are all about style but somehow missing soul or heart. Ultimately it has to be more than a simple design. That being said, we obviously have a stunning Bill Bensley designed property in the royal district of Bangkok. However I believe the secret is that we are family owned and independently managed. The Sukosol family lead by Khun Kamala has always given us the freedom to do whatever it takes to succeed. Our primary goal is to ensure we have happy guests and a happy team. This will ultimately lead to success as a property, creating an exceptional reputation for crafting memorable experiences beyond simply checking in and out.

The Siam is known for offering unique private pool villas but what do your guest love most at The Siam?

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

We have so many features at the hotel which differentiate us. Guests love the fact that we have so many hidden corners to explore. Whether it be the Vinyl Room with an amazing collection of vinyl records to enjoy, or the private screening room to enjoy watching that favourite movie with your family. Our Opium Spa which not only features a haven of exclusive space but also the opportunity to receive a traditional Sak Yant tattoo from a Master. Or perhaps it’s the opportunity to enjoy a class with our chef by the river learning some key Thai recipes. Guests constantly mention the sense of space throughout the property. Most hotel designers or owners would have put over 100 rooms on a site of this size, whereas The Siam was created to ensure a sense of exclusivity and serenity, a true sanctuary to retreat to after a day exploring the frenetic energy of Bangkok.

How easy is it to access Bangkok’s vibrant city centre using the Chao Prayah river?

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

This is the key to the guest experience of The Siam. Guests take advantage of our private water limousine than runs on a schedule throughout the day for our guests to explore key historic sites and head out  for amazing meals or shopping experiences. Trips are arranged through their butler and coordinated depending on their wishes. Not only does this escape Bangkok’s infamous traffic snarls, it also ensures that guests can accurately plan their day knowing they will get somewhere or return to the hotel at a specific time, ultimately maximising their time with us.

Every detail at The Siam hotel tells a story with an emphasis on reinvigorating local craft, arts, culture and community. Tell us more about its exterior as well as interior design and decoration.

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

The Siam was designed by Bill Bensley who always has a sense of drama to his properties. The Siam is no different and is quite striking. A blend of Deco and Asian influences. Dramatic black and white scenes throughout the hotel. However due to both Bensley and the owner’s love for the reused and repurposed, the antique and curios, the whole hotel gives the atmosphere of a Hotel and Museum with its corridors and rooms filled with artwork and antiques from around Asia and beyond. Owning family member, Krissada Sukosol-Clapp is known for constantly decorating and styling areas around the property as he finds new pieces or inspiration. The latest is the Bar at The Story House which had taken a dramatic turn with red accented pieces and a gothic style chandelier. Both recent additions for the surprise of our regular guests.

Tell us more about the special relationship between The Siam and Thai luxury brand Jim Thompson?

In 2022, it was decided to convert our famous Connie’s Cottage from a guest villa into public space.  We had various ideas what to do with the spaces. However it was owner Khun Kamala who suggested we open discussions with Jim Thompson (as an internationally recognised iconic thai brand) to see if they would be interested in a formal collaboration to take over all or part of the villa. This was especially relevant as Jim Thompson features in the history of the four antique Thai houses that are on the property. We then had a discussion with the incoming CEO Frank Cancelloni who was also looking to partner with other iconic Thai brands. We eventually came to agreement for them to take the ground floor as a small retail space which would introduce our guests directly to the brand with the idea to entice them to visit their revitalised and relaunched Heritage Quarter downtown. I am pleased to say the partnership and collaboration has been a great success for both parties.

What The Siam has on offer on fine dining?

The Chon Thai Restaurant

Our signature restaurant is the riverside Chon Thai Restaurant. However rather than going down the “fine dining” route, we have preferred to focus on exceptional home-style cuisine for our guests to enjoy the best flavours from Thailand while sitting in the historic surroundings of century-old wooden Thai houses.

The terrace at The Story House

To counter this traditional Thai experience; during the covid period we chose to create a new dining experience at the other end of the hotel called The Story House. A striking Bensley designed renovation was completed and a dramatic series of rooms filled with Krissada’s antiques, artworks and furniture created a space for guests to experience a menu of contemporary culinary options with flavours from around the world. Opening Executive Chef, Blair Mathieson was bought back to launch this restaurant and I am delighted to see guests enjoy a wide range of options with many plant based specialities also.

Will The Siam experience in Bangkok be reproduced in other parts of Thailand? What are the plans for brand expansion?

Boats are available for charter for sunset cruises and exploring local temples

In November 2019, we actually announced plans for The Siam Chiang Mai. The Sukosol family have purchased an incredible site which lends itself to create an experience unique for Chiang Mai. For us, it’s important that any new guest experience we create in Chiang Mai (or elsewhere) is also a logical and is a welcomed extension to the one we have created in Bangkok. Ultimately Covid paused this project and we hope to revisit this in the near future and bring the project to life.

Bangkok is rapidly changing. What are some of the challenges the city is facing post-Covid in attracting more tourists from the Southeast Asian region and beyond?

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

The Siam hotel, Bangkok

The Bangkok skyline is changing daily and is unrecognisable from ten years ago. This includes a multitude of new hotel developments stretching from downtown to the riverside with more to come in the next few years. The challenge comes not only from increased local competition but also from other countries and regions. Ease and cost of travel to and from any country is critical as well as the safety and security of travellers while visiting. Even though travellers have short memories and tend to revert to old travel habits in a short period of time, it is also critical for any country to be politically stable. Thailand continues to prove its resilience and continues to look forward with hope.

To end this interview, tell us one secret that you have never shared about The Siam hotel? Perhaps a hidden location or a secret experience?

There is not a period of time that we are not thinking about the next guest experience we create or how to elevate The Siam to new levels. Whether it be improving a space or looking for new ways to impress guests. For example we are starting a collaboration with a local photographer who has taken metal plate vintage portraits and we are introducing this unique experience for our guests. I cannot share the exact details but we are currently looking at the feasibility of another guest experience that would definitely be a first for any Bangkok or indeed any Thailand hotel. But sorry, you will have to wait for those details!

Grit, glamour and dynamic energy collide to create an opulent yet contemporary 57-room retreat in London’s most storied neighbourhood, Soho. With its 90 colourful streets packed into one square mile, Soho has been the pulse of this rich city for centuries. Besides the unbeatable location, the interior of Broadwick Soho is a feast for the senses as it blends glamour and comfort in equal measure.

Broadwick Soho’s townhouse aesthetic was created by world-renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki whose repertoire includes Annabel’s, The Beekman and Scott’s Restaurant. The space evokes a range of inspirations and references from Jazz-Age opulence to an Italian escape, a touch of British eccentricity and a dash of “disco fabulousness”. Each room features bespoke furniture and individually selected artworks while the walls are decorated with rich geometric patterns and vibrant prints that are complemented by a soothing colour scheme and the artful layering of different textures and materials.

While the rooms (including nine Suites and one Penthouse) effortlessly exude the vibrancy of its surrounding location, it is the eclectic mix of restaurants and bars within Broadwick Soho that offer a unique experience for any time and occasion. Dear Jackie, the hotel’s flagship lower-ground restaurant, serves classic Italian dishes with a modern twist. Inspired by for Italian splendour and nighttime glamour Dear Jackie is cloaked in a seductive Murano lighting, red silk walls and plush booths.

Bar Jackie, the little sister of Dear Jackie, is an all-day street level Italian bar and terrace that serves up anything from barista-made coffee to an evening aperitivo. Flute is Broadwick Soho’s rooftop dining bar and terrace, and has been deemed as the “crown jewel” of the hotel for its show-stopping décor and incredible views over the rooftops of London. The Dining Room is located at Broadwick Soho’s eighth-floor private dining room and offers an elegant backdrop for some of London’s most exceptional celebrations. With floor-to-ceiling windows guests can be wined and dined with magnificent views of the city.

Broadwick Soho is a love letter from the property’s owner, Noel Hayden to his family and is the culmination of a long-held personal dream to open his own luxury hotel in Central London. The essence of the hotel is birthed by the magic and nostalgia from Noel’s family’s hotel Mon Ami, combined with the history and vibrancy of Soho. Elements of the hotel give a not-so-subtle nod to Noel’s family — from Jackie Noel’s beloved mother to vintage images from Noel’s family photo albums form part of the hotel’s art collection. Broadwick Soho boasts a spectacular collection of artworks throughout the property including the likes of Francis Bacon, Bridget Riley, Andy Warhol, and William Turnbull, amongst other vintage relics and exciting emerging artists’ pieces from Faye Wei Wei and Casey Moore to name a few.

Joining Noel in bringing Broadwick Soho to life are his friends Jo Ringestad, Joshua Gardner, Andrea Gelardin and Jamie Poulton. This group of friends who together conceived Broadwick Soho, are committed to providing an impeccable service and creating memorable experiences for every guest.

The ILIAD 53F flybridge model is a sistership to the 53S sedan

Launched in 2019 with a range of models to suit different budgets, ILIAD Catamarans has already established a second yard to meet demand, and looks like becoming “the next big thing” in the bespoke powercat market.

Brainchild of Mark Elkington, CEO of ILIAD co-owner Global Marine, the brand reflects his decades of experience and attention to detail, with multihulls in Asia-Pacific, Europe and now America. He also runs the specialist agency Multihull Solutions and fast-expanding The Yacht Sales Co, which apart from many Australian and New Zealand locations has offices in Phuket, Singapore, Philippines, New Caledonia, Fiji and French Polynesia.

Another mastermind of ILIAD Catamarans is renowned Italian naval architect Riccardo Bulgarelli, who worked in Europe for some of the world’s leading shipyards before establishing his own design office in Asia. Bulgarelli has designed and project managed exclusive custom builds to 112ft LOA, and applies this knowledge in helping to create the ILIAD experience.

Global Marine, among other things, looks after financial and management security for clients. Its powercats are built to CE (Cat A) as standard, but owners can equally specify any classification society. A five-year international structural warranty is offered.

The aft cockpit offers lounging and dining

The ILIAD 53F launched at the 2023 Sydney International Boat Show is the flybridge model to the ILIAD 53S sedan unveiled at the earlier Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. Both have kept sales teams busy as buyers warm to their exceptional range, fuel efficiency and the living space that these new boats deliver.

The 53F has the highest bridge deck clearance in its class, and combined with a high freeboard, is reported to handle tougher ocean conditions better than most, while also giving a command performance in more genteel offshore swells.

This impressive explorer yacht is fitted with 440hp Volvo or Yanmar engines, with Cummins as another option, delivering a remarkable top speed of 21 knots lightship when needed, and achieving over 3,135nm when cruising at lower revs. These are market-leading figures, and combined with fuel efficiency, are a huge drawcard for buyers who want to go the extra distance.

Whether being used as a stylish weekender or for a long-planned extended deep seas adventure, the ILIAD 53F offers outdoor living spaces that captivate many who step aboard. The aft cockpit has a bar area, barbecue and dining setting for up to 10 guests.

The massive flybridge features another large dining table and lounge easily seating 10, and its independent galley, barbecue, bar and fridge make it the perfect spot for al fresco dining and entertainment under the stars. The upper helm has premium-quality double seats, allowing drivers to confer with guests.

Adjustable foredeck lounges are popular for sunset cocktails, and a range of leisure toys can be stored in the generous lockers. The optional tender platform can be used for swimming or diving, or sunbathing when the tender is deployed.

The ILIAD 53F interior comprises a forward salon, optional helm station and another dining setting that seats six to eight people. Panoramic window views can be seen from anywhere inside, and an abundance of natural light floods the area.

Principal galley is well-stocked with leading European appliances

The galley, fitted with finest European appliances, is sleek and practical with its island bench, full-sized refrigerator and freezer, and well-designed storage.

As with all ILIAD Catamaran models, the layout of the interior can be customised to suit individual needs and styles. Additional refrigeration and freezer storage may be added, more open-plan galleys provided, timber finishes and upholstery customised, cabin layouts changed, and storerooms, offices and laundries included.

This bespoke concept is a major advantage that ILIAD offers over competitors, as it enables owners to create their own unique vessel at a price that production manufacturers can’t meet.

The master suite in the starboard hull is remarkably spacious, with generous headroom and a luxury apartment ambience. Included are an office desk cum dressing table, separate sofa, hanging closets and an extensive en-suite with walk-in shower.

The master suite occupies the starboard hull

In the port hull the standard configuration is for a twin cabin, and a highly practical forward guest cabin with single or double berths. Each cabin has its own private en-suite, and excellent storage.

Three models of the ILIAD 53S were sold following the Sanctuary Cove show, this version appealing to clients wanting to enjoy unrestricted waterways such as America’s Intracoastal.

Similarly, the ILIAD 53F had a “huge success” after Sydney, said Elkington, with more orders taken, and the extraordinary range of both models was highlighted by the recent cruise of the 53S Tantrum to the remote Kimberley region of Western Australia.

The first ILIAD 53 was sold to a US couple in early 2023, and in July US Youtubers Victoria Chalaya Rico Rox Stoll reviewed the vessel for their popular NautiStyles channel, which resulted in a further 170,000 views and an upsurge of interest in the States, which has become another new market for ILIAD.

The centre console is fixed, but otherwise the boat can be completely cleared of furniture if, for example, it’s being used to transport goods. As shown by the Nextender based in Kwun Tong, a full-beam bench seat with storage and backrests can be inserted at the aft end of the deck, while three-person benches can be placed fore and aft of the helm.

The forward end includes a built-in, aft-facing bench that can also be used as a step to get on or off the boat at the bow, which includes a removable handrail to assist with access. A canvas bimini covering the helm can also be inserted or removed when needed.

NextWave offers a Nextender for crewed charters with themed options including harbour or sunset cruises (two or four hours), a Geopark tour (four or eight hours) or fishing tours (eight hours), with options such as catering, inflatables, water toys and stewardesses.

The UIM E1 World Championship has revealed a seven-event schedule for its first series in 2024, with Hong Kong hosting the concluding event from November 9-10 and signing up to also host the season finale of the second and third seasons in 2025 and 2026.

The official standings will be known as the ‘Race to Hong Kong’ as the 2024 championship concludes in a city that has also hosted Formula E, the electric race car series inaugurated by E1 co-founder Alejandro Agag.

Kevin Yeung, the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: “We are most excited to see the debut of UIM E1 World Championship in 2024 and are proud that Hong Kong will host the grand finale of the first three seasons.

“It will be the only East Asian host city in the inaugural season, highlighting Hong Kong’s reputation as a world-renowned events capital and one of the best destinations for tourists around the world.”

E1 World Championship 2024 schedule

The 2024 season starts in Saudi Arabia as Jeddah hosts the first weekend event from February 2-3. Over three months later, the series resumes with five events in Europe from May to September, taking in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Monaco and the Netherlands.

The European swing kicks off in the Venetian lagoon from May 11-12, moves to Puerto Banus on the Costa Del Sol from June 1-2 and then heads to the ‘gateway to the Alps’ in Geneva for lake racing from June 29-30.

The series then visits Monaco from July 26-27 and Rotterdam from September 7-8, as the Dutch city welcomes back the Racebirds after hosting a test event last September. The 2024 tour then heads east to Asia for the season finale in Hong Kong.

The teams will compete in all-electric Racebirds

Rodi Basso, co-founder and CEO of E1, said: “I share the pride of everyone at E1 as we announce this spectacular calendar of events for our first season. These cities are all world renowned for their cultural, touristic and sporting offerings and will each provide our fans with a unique and unforgettable experience.

“Our race locations not only provide a stunning backdrop for our Racebirds but align with our goals of improving the ecosystems in which we race, and accelerating marine electrification.”

As of late December, eight teams had been announced with seven headed by sporting and entertainment celebrities: Tom Brady (American football), Rafa Nadal (tennis), Virat Kohli (cricket), Didier Drogba (football) and Sergio Pérez (F1), Steve Aoki (DJ) and Marc Anthony (singer). Up to 10 teams will compete in the inaugural E1 championship, with each choosing two pilots to share driving duties.

Alejandro Agag, co-founder and Chairman of E1, said: “The list of names in the season one calendar shows the immense confidence our city stakeholders have in E1 before the first race has even started and there’s still so much more to come from the championship.”
