Developed with Torqeedo, the first Swan 88 splashed in Pietarsaari, with the model scheduled to debut at Cannes in September.

Nautor Swan has launched the Swan 88, the Finnish shipyard’s first yacht to feature hybrid electric propulsion, which was developed in collaboration with Torqeedo. Featuring an overall length of 26.54m and a beam of 6.79m (22ft 3in), the performance superyacht was moved out of her shed at the Boatbuilding Technology Centre and craned into the water at the House of Swan in Pietarsaari.

Giovanni Pomati, Nautor Group’s CEO, said: “The Swan 88 marks an important milestone for the shipyard’s production. It’s the first hybrid propulsion yacht, which has seen a constant collaboration with Torqeedo and has contributed to the study and development of the same features across the entire range, not just maxi yachts.

“This important new model represents Swan’s 360-degree essence, the DNA that for 58 years has made our boats recognisable worldwide, and we’re very proud of it.”

The hull and deck are full carbon-fibre epoxy construction, utilising the benefits of Sprint® lamination technology together with the yard’s proprietary advanced carbon mould technology.

The Swan 88 was designed by the shipyard’s regular collaborators: German Frers for naval architecture, Misa Poggi for interior design, and Lucio Micheletti of Micheletti + Partners for exterior styling.

The new model’s innovations include the shape of the coachroof, “inspired by the wind with the essential and dynamic lines enhanced”, as well as a transom featuring a ‘beach club’ swim platform. The natural light flooding in from the atrium-style companionway as well as the coachroof and hull windows provide bright interiors.

Despite its LOA, the performance maxi satisfies the sub-24m load line rule for compliance to the light MCA charter regulations, giving owners the opportunity to earn charter income while reducing running and management costs. The appendages dedicated to cruising are a moderate draught fin T-keel of 4m and twin rudders, which reduce draught and increase safety and balance.

Joining the 98, 100, 108, 120 and 128 in the Swan Maxi line, the Swan 88 will make her worldwide debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 10-15 before appearing at the superyacht-focused Monaco Yacht Show from September 25-28. Swan recently appointed Simpson Marine as its exclusive agent for Asia.

The upcoming model will celebrate 30 years since Sunseeker launched the iconic Predator series of cruisers.

Sunseeker is scheduled to stage the world premiere of the Predator 55 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 10-15), with the CE Category A yacht based on the same hull as the open Superhawk 55 that debuted at Boot Dusseldorf last year.

The Predator 55 is expected to reach up to 36 knots with twin 725hp Volvo Penta’s D11-IPS950 engines. Additional Volvo Penta technology can include Active Ride Control, Dynamic Positioning System and Joystick Docking, while Garmin Surround View offers 360-degree visibility during docking from six cameras around the hull. A gyro option can mitigate rolling at anchor.

Featuring an overall length of 56ft and a 16ft beam, the Predator 55 has a low profile due to a sloping hard top, while a single-piece, UV-tinted windshield offers excellent visibility for the raised twin-seat helm station. Above the helm, the fully retractable carbon-fibre sunroof – measuring 2.5m by 3m – is imbued with the same pre-impregnated lamination technology used in Formula One.

Aft, the integrated tender garage can house a Williams TurboJet 325. The hydraulic bathing platform lowers to reveal the tender launch-and-recovery system, while the aft sunpad can lift to release the stowed tender.

Forward of the sunpad is a wide, forward-facing sofa. The cockpit also has L-shaped seating to port, a fixed rise-and-fall expandable table, and a wet bar to starboard. The aft saloon doors can all be slid to either side, linking the cockpit and saloon to create a large indoor-out environment.

The foredeck is accessed by broad side decks and has a sofa facing a lifting sunpad with integrated stowage. A carbon-fibre sail canopy offers sun protection.

The Predator 55 is the first yacht to feature an all-new interior collection by Sunseeker and Design Unlimited, offering owners a flexible colour scheme and materials palette. The saloon includes a C-shaped sofa to port and an open galley and a TV on a pivoting bracket to starboard, while layout options include a starboard sofa and rise-and-fall TV instead of the galley.

On the lower deck, layout options for the starboard side include a lower galley, dinette or twin guest cabin with en-suite bathroom.

The owner’s cabin is full-beam midships and has an en-suite bathroom and wardrobe either side of the entrance hallway. The large double bed sits centrally and is flanked by a sideboard to port and either another sideboard or optional breakfast seating to starboard.

The VIP cabin forward has an en-suite and plenty of storage, and offers good headroom, like in the master. Advanced tropical-specification air-conditioning can provide cooling comfort even in 40-degree heat and 90-plus per cent humidity.

The Predator 55 joins the 65, 74 XPS and 75 in the current Predator series. The new model marks 30 years since the British builder launched the iconic series with the Predator 63 in 1994, followed by the likes of the Predator 80 two years later and Predator 58 and 54 in the late 1990s. Sunseeker then introduced 29 new Predators and variants between 2001 and 2023.

The retirement of the Van der Valk founder has been followed by a management buyout of the Dutch superyacht builder.

Wim van der Valk founded the shipyard in 1967

Wim van der Valk marked his 79th birthday in April by officially confirming his retirement, having been at the helm of the shipyard that bears his family name since its foundation in 1967. The Van der Valk shipyard is working on its largest superyacht to date and has a full order book stretching well into 2026.

Following his retirement, the founder’s shares have been acquired in a management buyout financially supported by a family of experienced yacht owners who have previously commissioned three custom superyachts – LeVen, Edge and Lady Lene – from the Van der Valk shipyard.

The management team of Enrico Theuns, Bram Kooltjes and Yoeri Bijker can leverage on decades of combined experience in the high-end yachting industry and will continue to enjoy the ongoing support of Wim van der Valk as the shipyard’s ‘President Emeritus’ and an advisor to the board.

“The significant capital investment will enable Van der Valk to continue growing our unique niche in the market for bespoke yachts between 25-45m,” said Bijker, the shipyard’s Head of Sales.

“Having built several award-winning yachts with us, the new primary shareholders fully understand our yard’s ethos and are committed to ensuring Van der Valk retains its Dutch structure, heritage and quality. We have a solid financial future as an independent entity with various options available for further expansion. Wim’s unrivalled legacy could not be in safer hands.

Van der Valk has firmly established itself as one of the only yards with the capacity and flexibility to build all-custom superyachts up to 45m. It has over 9,000sqm of state-of-the-art facilities at its location in Waalwijk, where it opened its seventh construction hall last November.

Northrop & Johnson has expanded its Asia-Pacific presence by adding offices in Hong Kong and Taiwan, as the superyacht services company “solidifies its commitment to serving clients across the APAC sector”.

Based in the regional headquarters in Phuket, Joshua Lee is CEO of Northrop & Johnson Asia-Pacific, which has notably enlarged its team by appointing Yacht Brokers Nicole van der Wall in Phuket, Jeffrey Chan and Michael Bognier in Hong Kong, and Simon Chung in Taiwan.

“We’ve recently welcomed four talented brokers to our team in the Asian region, where we foresee long-term sustained growth,” Lee said. “Their addition strengthens our capabilities and allows us to provide comprehensive services to our clients.”

In addition to the brokerage team expansion, Northrop & Johnson has appointed Kay Monney to bolster the charter team in Phuket, where Lies Sol is a Charter Broker. Monney has extensive experience and local knowledge in the charter market.

“We believe these strategic additions to our sales and charter departments will not only broaden our coverage for yacht owners and charterers but also expand our footprint in this crucial market,” Lee added.

Lee founded Lee Marine in 1997, since when he has been supported by General Manager Martin Holmes. The dealership acquired the regional licence for Northrop & Johnson in 2018, while both Lee Marine and Northrop & Johnson Asia-Pacific were acquired by Hong Kong-based NextWave Yachting in 2023, which has helped lead to the expansion of the global brokerage house in the region.

Asia Yachting has secured three sales of the Prestige M48, whose world premiere in 2022 marked the French builder’s entry into the multihull motor yacht sector. The exclusive Hong Kong dealer for Prestige, Asia Yachting announced that the three sales have been made in the past year, further good news after Groupe Beneteau announced a record-breaking financial year in 2023.

Brokers Jordi Esteve, Vinci Cheung and Brian Leung have each sold a unit of the Prestige M48, reviewed by YACHT STYLE in Issue 71. One of the clients is buying a multihull motor yacht for the first time and was impressed by the 48-footer with a near-20ft beam and full-beam accommodation on the lower deck, the result of innovative naval architecture.

“The owners were especially impressed with the M48’s slender yet towering design,” Asia Yachting stated. “Her sleek and elegant aesthetics blend very well with the practical layout and multiple social spaces, catering to the needs of their family and friends.”

The M48 debuted at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival and was joined the following year by the M8, the 65ft flagship of the M-Line. The new multihull series followed the X-Line (X60, X70) as a major new series for Prestige, which built its reputation on its F-Line flybridge and S-Line sportbridge models.

Tanguy Tertrais, Prestige’s Asia-Pacific Sales Director, said: “We’re thrilled to see our first multihull motor yacht model becoming the new favourite of yacht lovers in Asian markets, with Hong Kong being one of the most important markets in Asia-Pacific.

“The comfort, stability and volume offered by multihulls are some of the reasons Groupe Beneteau recorded such strong growth in its ‘Real Estate on the Water’ segment last year, boosted by the sales of the M48 across the Asia-Pacific region.”

The Prestige M48 is set to make its Asia-Pacific debut at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (May 23-26) in Australia, where it’s also scheduled to display at the Sydney International Boat Show (August 1-4).

The M48 is also set to appear at the Prestige Exclusive Days in Japan from July 13-14 before making its Hong Kong debut later in the year.

Camper & Nicholsons is planning to display five superyachts at this year’s Palma International Boat Show, which will be held in Mallorca from April 25-28, overlapping with the Singapore Yachting Festival. In the Varadero area, Camper & Nicholsons will show Borkumriff IV, the 51m Royal Huisman sailing yacht, with two Italy-built motor yachts, the 45m Logica Forever and 35m Benetti Sea Belle.

In the Moll Vell area, the brokerage house will display Merrymaid, the 34m sailing yacht launched by Camper & Nicholsons in 1904, and the 23m Silver Cavalier, built in mahogany by James A Silver and launched in 1966. Yachts in the surrounding area include the 35m Admiral Cinquanta-50 and Silvertip, the 34m sailing yacht by Yachting Developments.

Sanlorenzo SP110

Sanlorenzo is showing an SP110 smart-performance coupe and an SD96 from its semi-displacement series in Marina Moll Vell, where the Italian shipyard’s sister brand, Bluegame, is displaying its BGX63 and BG54.

Arcadia Yachts is showcasing the sixth unit of Sherpa 80, with the Italian builder stating that the Balearic Islands have always been a thriving market for the brand. The model includes extensive use of solar panels and is fitted with the Volvo Penta IPS propulsion system, which helps reduce fuel consumption.

The Palma International Boat Show is an unmissable event in incredible surroundings.”

Pearl Yachts, in partnership with long-time Spanish distributor Mallorca Marine Group, will show all three of its current models, the Pearl 62, Pearl 72 and flagship Pearl 95, which will be complemented this summer by the Pearl 82, the British brand’s newest project.

Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group has reportedly agreed to sell British yacht builder Sunseeker to US investment firm Lionheart Capital, according to multiple reports.

The Chinese conglomerate has reportedly agreed to sell the British yacht builder to the US investment firm, according to multiple reports.

Sunseeker 88 Yacht

Wanda Group, majority owner of Sunseeker International since 2013, has agreed to sell the Poole-based yacht builder to Miami-based investment firm Lionheart Capital, according to Bloomberg.

The news agency stated that, “according to people with knowledge of the matter”, Wanda Group and Lionheart had signed a sale-and-purchase agreement. The transaction could close as early as May, depending upon British regulatory approval.

Sunseeker has declined to comment on the situation. Last year, Sunseeker CEO Andrea Frabetti announced that the yacht builder had a retail forward order value of £625 million, signalling a continued recovery following a downturn in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Lionheart, led by founder and CEO Ophir Sternberg, has backed companies including restaurant chain BurgerFi International, reimbursement specialist MSP Recovery and technology company SMX (Security Matters). In 2021, the firm was part of a group that bought US powerboat maker Cigarette Racing, which recently launched its Middle East operation.

In 2013, Wanda Group, China’s largest shopping centre operator, reportedly acquired nearly 92 per cent of Sunseeker for £320 million. However, the conglomerate has increasingly come under pressure after borrowing costs surged and Beijing cracked down on the property sector, Bloomberg reported.

In early December 2023, Wanda Group was divesting core businesses, including its commercial facility management and movie divisions, to avoid bankruptcy. In January of this year, the Group were selling assets such as the 193-room Shanghai Wanda Reign luxury hotel, situated in Shanghai’s famed Bund district.

Leopard Catamarans has announced the delivery of the 100th unit of the Leopard 53 Powercat, a model that had its world premiere at the 2020 Miami International Boat Show. Founded in 1997, Leopard is one of the world’s leading builder of pleasure powercats, as well as sailing cats, with all its models built by Robertson and Caine in Cape Town, South Africa.

Franck Bauguil, Leopard’s Vice-President Yacht Ownership & Product Development, said: “We’re thrilled to celebrate the delivery of our 100th Leopard 53 Powercat. This shows the recognition from the motor yacht market of the advantages of a catamaran – more space, more stability for a lot less fuel consumption.

“The Leopard 53 Power catamaran offers exceptional value, simplicity, ease of maintenance and awesome modern design, making it the number one choice in this category for customers around the world.”

Since the launch of its first power catamaran in 2002, the company has been at the forefront of the sector, developing nine models in cooperation with sister charter company The Moorings and Robertson and Caine, and delivering over 700 powercats over the past 22 years under both the Leopard and The Moorings brands.

Leopard’s current range of power catamarans comprises the 53 Powercat, with 100 units delivered since 2020, the 46 Powercat, with 65 units delivered since 2022, and the 40 Powercat, with 25 units delivered since debuting in 2023. All three powercats, along with the Leopard 42 and 50 sailing cats, will be shown at the second Singapore Yachting Festival from April 25-28.

“We take pride in our ability to consistently deliver world-class power catamarans that offer unparalleled performance, comfort and reliability,” Bauguil added. “Our success is testament to the close, historic cooperation between Leopard Catamarans, The Moorings, Robertson and Caine, and Simonis Voogd, the naval architect.”

In addition to serving private buyers, Leopard offers a unique yacht management program in partnership with The Moorings. Under the programme, owners receive a guaranteed income, along with benefits such as no dockage fees, no insurance fees, no maintenance fees and no operational costs. Owners also have access to similar yachts across The Moorings’ 20 destinations worldwide.

Leopard is one of the world’s leading catamaran brands, developing 26 sailing and power models since 1997 and delivering over 2,800 units.

SUTL Enterprise has announced that it’s currently developing ONE°15 Marina Panwa Phuket in collaboration with the Numchai Group, which owns Numchai Ocean Transport Company and is supported by the Ministry of Industry (Thailand).

SUTL Enterprise is the owner and developer of ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, which opened in 2007 and hosts the ICOMIA Boating Industry Conference, YACHT STYLE Awards and Singapore Yachting Festival later this month.

Last year, SUTL Enterprise launched ONE°15 Marina Nirup Island – situated in Indonesia but just 8nm south of Singapore – and said it expects the upcoming ONE°15 Marina Panwa Phuket to be welcoming yachts up to 120ft by the fourth quarter of this year.

The marina is in Cape Panwa, a headland peninsula on Phuket’s southeast coast, which offers access to Phang Nga Bay to the north, Phi Phi islands to the east and Racha islands to the south. ONE°15 Marina Panwa Phuket is expected to include “upscale dining options and recreational club facilities, ensuring an exceptional experience for marina guests”, according to SUTL Enterprise.

Arthur Tay, CEO and Executive Director of SUTL Enterprise (Leader, Issue 76), said: “Harnessing the established ONE°15 brand, we are excited to add another marina to our global network. ONE°15 Marina Panwa Phuket is committed to delivering the best-in-class marina standards and experience that our esteemed ONE°15 members and boaters worldwide can expect. We look forward to welcoming ONE°15 members, new and existing, to this exciting new marina location.”

Phuket’s existing marinas include Phuket Boat Lagoon and Royal Phuket Marina in the middle of the east coast and two megayacht-friendly marinas, Ao Po Grand Marina in the northeast and Phuket Yacht Haven in the far north.
