Multihulls Special 2021: Fountaine Pajot’s future vision

Multihulls Special 2021: Fountaine Pajot’s future vision

SHARE

Builder of about 4,000 catamarans since 1976, the La Rochelle shipyard has launched three new models in the past year and is soon set to embark on a sustainability-focused evolution.

The Samana 59, Fountaine Pajot’s second-biggest sail cat, is among its new models

Fountaine Pajot will celebrate its 45th anniversary this July, having built in the region of 4,000 sailing catamarans since it was founded in 1976 by Jean-François Fountaine, Yves Pajot, Daniel Givon and Rémi Tristan.

Unlike fellow French builder Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot is active in the smaller powercat sector and is preparing to launch the MY4.S, its new entry-level motor yacht complementing the MY5 – one recently arrived in Hong Kong through Asia Yachting – and the MY6, models formerly known as the MY40 and MY44.

The MY4.S could debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival

The La Rochelle builder, which has over 1,000 employees, hopes to display the MY4.S at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 7-12) and other boat shows in Europe and the US, with hopes to debut a unit in Asia as soon as possible. Late last year, it launched its first Power 67, a model based on the Alegria 67, its flagship sailing yacht.

“Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts carved a real niche in the motor yacht market and is today challenging monohull power boats,” says Group Sales Director Steven Guedeu. “Motor yachts continue to make up about 20 per cent of our business, but that’s because our sailing catamaran sales are still growing, too!”

The Power 67 is based on the Alegria 67

The brand’s newest sailing yachts are the entry-level Isla 40 and Samana 59, both launched late last year. The Isla 40 is the smaller sister of the Astrea 42, Elba 45 and Saona 47, and two units are scheduled to arrive in Asia later in the year. The Samana 59 is more recognisable as the little sister of the Alegria 67 and has the largest flybridge in her category, according to the shipyard.

Fountaine Pajot has also spent much of the last year developing a new focus on sustainability and expects to make a formal announcement on its plans in September. Earlier this year, it offered a glimpse into this future with details of the ‘New 51’ sailing catamaran to be unveiled in early 2022.

The Isla 40 is the brand’s new entry-level sailing cat

Instead of offering solar panels as an option to be added on flat surfaces, the 51 will have the option of solar panels fully integrated into the hardtop – marking a first for the brand – and which will work in tandem with lithium batteries. The integrated solar-power system is expected to produce 2,000-2,200W of power, about four times as much as on previous Fountaine Pajot models of a similar size.

“We were surprised by the excitement around the New 51. Following the announcement, we had a lot of orders from people who love the concept and each one has taken the integrated solar-panels option. We are really honoured by the confidence shown by these future owners,” Guedeu says.

Sustainability: Catamaran Builders – Fountaine Pajot

The French builder is developing a ‘New 51’ sailing cat with a fully integrated solar-power system, an illustration of what the yard promises will be a new sustainability-focused offering.

“For the past 12 months, Fountaine Pajot’s major objective has been to put environmental sustainability at the heart of the design and development of our new boats, so you can expect many innovations in the coming years.”

Fountaine Pajot has established a strong dealer network in Asia overseen by Hong Kong-based Kevin Corfa. However, the builder is aware there’s growing competition in the region and around the globe from established, fast-rising and even new catamaran builders.

“It’s good for the market to have a larger range of proposals. Fountaine Pajot is a historical, iconic brand and a worldwide reference in cruising catamarans market, and it has a high capacity to follow the trends and meet the new demands of the owners,” Guedeu says. “Even during the health crisis, we’ve been very active commercially and our customers have shown real loyalty, so have our dealers.”

Tri-deck powercat building in Thailand

Tri-deck powercat building in Thailand

The Floeth Yachts shipyard in Rayong is set to deliver a 110ft wave-piercing, tri-deck powercat in the second half of 2021. By Bill Gladstone.

Floeth is building the 110ft wave-piercer near Pattaya

Floeth Yachts is preparing to launch its biggest-ever build, with the 110ft Independence set to emerge from the Rayong shipyard as one of the world’s biggest wave-piercing catamarans. Sea trials could start as early as June, with the boat expected to be completed by September.

Fitted with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system along with solar panels for non-propulsion operations, the tri-deck powercat sold to a Thailand-based client is under construction at Floeth’s 11,200sqm seaside shipyard beside the Mataphut Industrial Park, southeast of Pattaya in the Gulf of Thailand.

Designed by Thailand-based Albatross Marine Design, the wave-piercing powercat requires a complex build process that isn’t suited for mass production.

Paul Reeves, Floeth’s Sales Manager, said: “The hull has a very fine bow, with reduced buoyancy. When it meets a wave, this means the hull pierces through the water rather than riding over the top. This results in a smoother ride compared to traditional designs and puts less mechanical stress on the vessel. It also reduces the boat’s wave-making resistance.”

The powercat is designed by Thailand-based Albatross Marine Design

Founded by Michael Floeth in 2008, the family-owned operation specialises in the production of sportfishing boats and custom catamarans. These include a 72ft wave-piercing catamaran that can run at 20-plus knots on a full load – it’s certified for 110 people – despite only being powered by two 380hp engines.

The shipyard also specialises in the use of PVC vacuum resin infusion, which guarantees the even flow of resin to the hull, particularly beneficial in large, complicated moulds. Floeth says the process delivers a yacht up to 25 per cent stronger and 30 per cent lighter than conventional fibreglass builds.

Floeth renewed its activity in the private and luxury catamaran market after the Covid-19 pandemic took its toll on many boatbuilding companies in Southeast Asia. About 80 per cent of the Rayong builder’s revenue was tied to the charter business, so the company was forced to look for other business opportunities.

For Independence, special attention was given to fuel efficiency, seaworthiness and ride comfort in a superyacht capable of long-distance voyages.

Forward view of the saloon

The wave-piercer’s two needle-like hulls extend beyond the bow to slice through waves, reduce resistance and improve speed and efficiency, meaning far less power is needed to travel at higher speeds. High bridge-deck clearance is another feature that benefits performance.

With two electric engines, Independence is predicted to have a minimum cruising speed of 16 knots, which is unique for an electrically powered boat of this size, according to Floeth.

The boat will have generators so that every 10-12 hours, it can either stop overnight while the generators recharge the batteries, or it can switch over to the two diesel-powered engines, whose main purpose will be for docking or extended cruising.

Albert Nazarov, founder of Thailand-based Albatross Marine Design, designed the yacht, which he says will have remarkable performance from eco-friendly power sources.

“This will be the world’s first trans-oceanic yacht where all the non-propulsion systems are green,” Nazarov said. “You will be able to cross the Atlantic twice without refuelling. The high-efficiency wave piercing hulls allow the boat to be driven at a cruising speed of 16 knots from a total of 780hp, with a fuel consumption of only 88 litres per hour.”

Aft view of the saloon, which includes a bar and dining area

The non-propulsion systems include air-conditioning, galley operation, lighting and navigation equipment, which are all handled by clean energy provided by solar panels. This means guests and crew can enjoy a quiet night’s sleep in air-conditioned comfort without having to listen to the rumble of a generator. The yacht has a 45ft beam, with all guest accommodation on the main and upper decks, and the galley and crew quarters in the hulls.

The main deck starts with a large, completely covered aft cockpit, while the interior features a formal dining area and bar to port, and two separate lounges to starboard side. Forward is an enormous, full beam master cabin, with a forward-facing bed and lounge to starboard. Large glass doors lead to a covered private foredeck with a hot tub.

The upper deck has two large guest cabins, port and starboard, both with sea-facing beds and en-suite bathrooms. The aft deck has a large hot tub, bar and space for several sun loungers, while forward is the main pilothouse and an open foredeck with a C-shaped sofa.

The sundeck has a hardtop and features the upper helm, a bar and sun loungers. The yacht’s design has also evolved to include a huge, two-part hydraulic platform, with each half able to independently be lowered or raised to launch and retrieve jetskis, tenders, sailing dinghies and other toys. Floeth is also building a line of 65ft catamarans featuring electric propulsion.

Actor Hugh Bonneville presents the British builder’s ‘Famous Five’ new models in a 12-minute video that includes the yachts cruising in formation off the coast of Dorset.

Sunseeker CEO Andrea Frabetti and actor Hugh Bonneville

Sunseeker has officially unveiled its ‘Famous Five’ new models in an online premiere hosted by Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville and broadcast on the British builder’s Facebook and YouTube channels (CLICK HERE).

The Manhattan 55 was Yacht Style Issue 58’s cover star and subject of a six-page Review (CLICK HERE), while the Predator 55 EVO™ made its show debut at the Palm Beach International Boat Show (March 25-28) and was part of an earlier joint online premiere with the Manhattan 55 (CLICK HERE).

The yachts cruise in formation off England’s south coast

However, the recent ‘Famous Five’ premiere (CLICK HERE) was the first time all five models had been shown together, with Bonneville narrating a video highlighting each yacht’s special features.

Andrea Frabetti, CEO at Sunseeker International, said: “It was a great privilege to welcome Hugh back to Poole to help launch all five new models, each imbued with Sunseeker style and innovation.

“This is the culmination of a great deal of hard work, talent and passion by the entire workforce; the credit rests with each and every one of them. This launch is a truly momentous occasion, and I cannot wait to welcome even more clients to our burgeoning ‘family’ as our range continues to expand.”

The 65 Sport Yacht is distinguished by its optional SkyHelm™, which features twin bolstered seats set very low on either side of a central console and which can pivot aft for socialising. There’s also a fully-carbon steering arm that the driver can raise to ease ingress into this racing-cockpit design or can be locked in a raised position for helming while standing. The windscreen can also tilt up and down depending on the driver’s preference and desire to be connected to the elements.

The 88 Yacht and 90 Ocean are both part of the builder’s Yacht range of larger flybridge motor yachts and both feature Sunseeker’s X-Tend sunbed that can either fold down and face aft in the beach club or be raised and face forward at cockpit level.

The Manhattan 55 (second left) is the first Famous Five model sold to Asia

The 88 Yacht’s new features include a galley positioned forward by the helm to increase space for the living and dining areas, while the lower deck features accommodation for eight guests and four crew.

The 90 Ocean is a revolutionary new design from Sunseeker, with a 7.16m beam and a stem bow contributing to what Sunseeker describes as a 20 per cent increase in overall volume and 25-30 per cent more deck space. The yacht also features a flybridge that the yard describes as 25 per cent larger than a comparable yacht, as well as fixed 6m by 4m swim platform that doubles as a beach club.

Multihulls Special 2021: Lagoon leads the way

Multihulls Special 2021: Lagoon leads the way

SHARE

In the first chapter of our ‘Kings of Cats’ cover story in Issue 59, Yacht Style profiles market leader Lagoon, which recently passed the 6,000 mark for cruising catamarans.

The Lagoon 55 was launched earlier this year – see full Review in Issue 59; Photo: Nicolas Claris

The Lagoon 55 (see REVIEW, Issue 59) was among many new catamarans scheduled to premiere at this year’s International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte in the south of France. However, this year’s edition was cancelled a month ahead of the event – as it was last year – leading Lagoon and many other catamaran builders to organise alternative ways of showcasing their new models.

In the meantime, Lagoon celebrated completing its 6,000th catamaran since its first launch in 1987, which underlined its reputation as the most prolific builder in a sector featuring fellow French builder Fountaine Pajot, with around 4,000 units since 1976, and South Africa-built Leopard, with about 2,500 over the past two decades.

“Passing the 6,000 mark is a huge milestone for us,” says Thomas Gailly, Lagoon Brand Director. “It shows the kind of trust our clients have in our boats and know-how.”

Over 1,000 people work for Lagoon, which builds its catamarans from 40-78ft in multiple Groupe Beneteau facilities in France. The 40, 42 and 46 sailing catamarans are built in Dompierre, an hour from Nantes in the Vendee region.

Further south, the stunning CNB (Construction Navale Bordeaux) site on the River Garonne in Bordeaux is the production site for the Lagoon 50, 52, 55, Sixty 5 and Seventy 7 sailing models along with the Sixty 7 and Seventy 8 powercats.

Lagoon passed the mark of producing 400 boats a year in 2017 and kept on increasing its production capacity until Covid rocked the boat last year, forcing production to stop for two months during the lockdown.

With Covid having a dramatic impact on travel, many major charter companies reduced their orders, which affected Lagoon along with other cruising catamaran builders. Simultaneously, though, there was a notable uptick in orders from private clients, again a trend echoed at competitors.

“Due to Covid, there was a real slowdown in orders from charter companies due to many of their bases remaining closed, but we’ve been keeping good pace due to very strong demand from private customers. Actually, Covid drastically increased the demand through the entire Lagoon range from private customers,” Gailly says.

“People are trying to find a way to escape from it all and how better than on a catamaran. Living on the sea was a dream for many and the situation led them to make this dream come true. Because of our production capacity, we’re able to offer the best lead times in the catamaran industry for most sizes, which led us to be quite successful over the last year or so.”

Lagoon’s numbers remain strong, but Gailly concedes the brand faces growing competition from both established builders and new players in a sector that appears to be expanding in popularity each year.

The Lagoon Seventy 8 heads the brand’s powercat offerings; Photo: Nicolas Claris

“There’s more and more demand for catamarans around the world and this has been true for years now. This has attracted other shipyards to invest more and more into this segment or even start their own range,” he says.

“Lagoon is one of the most experienced players in the industry and long ago became the biggest. It also has the biggest dealer network, so you always find the support you need, which is essential when buying a boat.

“Finally, we keep ahead by always innovating. We’ve done it again with the Lagoon 55 and its new concept of an open terrace on the sea. This is a brand-new way to live aboard and enjoy your boat that no one else is doing.”

LEADER OF THE PACK

Lagoon has certainly set the benchmark in Asia, where its dealers include Simpson Marine, the region’s biggest dealer with over 100 staff in seven countries. Simpson Marine has sold over 400 Lagoon cats and is the brand’s representative in Hong Kong, Taiwan, parts of mainland China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

A Lagoon 46 was recently delivered to Thailand; Photo: Simpson Marine

“Lagoon has been around for almost 20 years in Asia. People know and trust the name now,” Gailly says. “We work with great partners who have an excellent reputation for professionalism and capability. Being the leader is also a way to attract the best dealers, in terms of sales and service.”

The Lagoon 55 is the brand’s third-biggest sailing catamaran, behind the Sixty 5 launched last year and the Seventy 7, whose release in 2016 kick-started the emergence of the brand’s ‘big four’, which also includes the Sixty 7 and Seventy 8. The very first Seventy 7 sailing catamaran was sold to the Philippines, while another has recently been sold to Japan.

Gailly said he’s “very happy” with initial sales of the Lagoon 55, which is a significant step up from the 52. Major differences include a vastly increased beam, completely redesigned aft cockpit and transoms, a full flybridge, saloon skylights and a much-improved foredeck.

“The volume of the 55 inside and outside is really amazing,” Gailly says. “Together with the Premium Services we will offer, she’s a logical link to our big four.”

Lagoon Premium is a new service the brand is offering for its 50ft-plus models. A new online platform allows clients to choose from a wide array of options including hull wrapping, tableware, cutlery, personalised cushions, towels or bed sheets, extra electronic equipment, security equipment and toys. The platform also allows owners to follow the production of their boat in Bordeaux.

“We launched Lagoon Premium because of more demand for customisation and personalisation,” Gailly says. “Everything the client orders is installed directly on the production line or loaded onto the boat, so clients can just come to the shipyard, turn the key and start their adventure.”

Lagoon’s capacity in Bordeaux has benefited from the added space made available when the production of CNB sailing yachts was moved to Groupe Beneteau’s facility in Monfalcone, Italy, although the sailing yacht brand has since been sold to Solaris. The space previously used for CNB is now dedicated to the Sixty line, but Gailly says Lagoon will not rush orders to catch up with demand.

“On our ‘big four’ models, the strategy is to focus on quality more than quantity. For instance, for the first year of the Sixty 5, even though we already had strong demand, we made only one vessel and took time to test her before starting the next ones. We know this clientele well and how important it is to maintain our standards and key values.”

While the ‘big four’ have had significant sales in Asia, Gailly says the Lagoon 46 and 50 are now the most popular models in the region.

“They are recent models with the best price positioning on the market. They answer Asian clients’ need for volume, comfort and a large list of optional equipment. We also have big hopes for the 55.”

Meanwhile, Excess, the new Groupe Beneteau brand focused on higher-performance sailing cats, now has its current fleet represented across the Asia-Pacific.

The Excess 11, the brand’s 37ft entry-level yacht, marked its Asia debut at the Japan International Boat Show in April, having earlier been the star of an ‘Excess Tour’ in Yokohama.

Japan is home to an Excess 11, the new brand’s first model in Asia

Australia is home to an Excess 12, which was displayed at the Boating Rendezvous in Sydney last October and is set to appear at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

The Excess 15 is the brand’s largest model and a unit sold in New Zealand participated in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers at the end of last year as the 48ft 5in catamaran makes her way ‘home’ via various stops including Tahiti.

Nautor’s Swan has announced a new Swan 108 and the sale of its first hull, while the Finnish builder has also sold the first Swan 88.

The Swan 108 is another German Frers design

Swan has announced the sales of hull one of the newly announced Swan 108 as well as the first Swan 88, which will be the brand’s first hybrid electric-propulsion yacht. The models are part of a new-look Maxi Swan range that also includes the 98 – the first two hulls launched last year – and the 120, scheduled to launch later this year.

German Frers, who has designed all models in the current Swan Yachts and Maxi Swan ranges, designed the naval architecture of the Swan 108, Lucio Micheletti handled exterior design, while Misa Poggi has designed the interior.

The cockpit can be flush or include a step down to the aft deck

Frers said: “We always start a project with a clean slate to investigate and double-check the choices available and closely match the briefs from the sales force. There is no specific change once you go over 100ft, but just continue observing the mathematics and laws of physics, specifically length changes linearly, areas are squared, volume is cubed, stability varies to the fourth exponent.”

The helm stations have been moved forward and higher to enhance visibility, freeing the aft part of the cockpit for sunbathing, relaxation and the beach club area. The cockpit can be flush or feature a step in the aft deck area, while the coachroof has an extra-large companionway leading to the saloon.

The interiors are designed by Poggi with Nautor’s interior team and feature a bright saloon, with three levels of windows. Accommodation includes a forward owner’s suite and three en-suite guest cabins, while a separate crew quarters include three cabins and a crew mess.

“Air, light, space: these are the three pillars I bear in mind while designing a Swan,” Poggi said. “I work with materials and colours obtained from a careful selection, thinking above all about the tactile and visible sensation to achieve different moods. Everything should give the idea of being immersed in a bright space in perfect harmony with the outside.”

The Famous Five were filmed off the coast of Dorset

The Sunseeker ‘Famous Five’ World Premiere video is available to view on the shipyard’s Facebook page (@sunseekerinternational) and YouTube channel (SunseekerIntl), with the live broadcast starting at 6pm BST on Friday, May 14 (HKG/SIN: 1am on Saturday, May 15).

The British builder is simultaneously revealing all five models, showing a display of the Manhattan 55, Predator 55 EVO™, 65 Sport Yacht, 88 Yacht and 90 Ocean together for the very first time off the coast of Dorset, England.

Hugh Bonneville visited the Sunseeker shipyard

Actor Hugh Bonneville recently visited the boat builder in Poole to support a special launch video. The star of Downton Abbey and the Paddington movies was joined by Sunseeker CEO Andrea Frabetti and Douglas Culverwell, Director of Distributor Development, as he toured the shipyards and met with the teams responsible for building the models.

Majesty 175 is Gulf Craft’s new flagship

Gulf Craft has announced that the first Majesty 175 is scheduled to be delivered to her owner this summer, having been built at the UAE shipyard’s enormous production facility in Umm Al Quwain.

In an ‘Inside Majesty 175’ video, Captain Patricia Caswell, Gulf Craft’s Quality Control Manager, explains her experience of Majesty 175’s successful sea trials and highlights aspects such as the full ECDIS onboard monitoring and safety systems, the 360-degree circle the superyacht can navigate, and more.

The 780GT superyacht has a beam of 31ft 7in (9.62m) and can even cruise through shallow areas, with a draft of just 2.05m of water, as she’s built of advanced composite materials such as carbon-fibre and vinyl ester.

Majesty 175’s exterior and interior design are by Cristiano Gatto Design Studio of Italy, while the naval architecture is by Massimo Gregori of the Yankee Delta Studio. Standout features include a 5m infinity pool with swim-jet system at the forward deck and a hybrid sky-lounge that can be converted to an open sun deck. Accommodation includes seven staterooms, six crew cabins and a captain’s cabin.

As well as its 462,000sqft production facility in Umm Al Quwain, Gulf Craft operates a 100,000sqft facility in the Maldives and a service centre in Ajman. The builder has a manufacturing capacity of 200 boats per year and has already built more than 10,000 boats.

Riviera and Maritimo will again be the leading exhibitors at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, which returns with a strong line-up of brands from around the globe.

Riviera 645 SUV

If Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show takes place from May 20-23, it will be the first major southern hemisphere event since the Covid pandemic forced postponement or cancellation of such displays worldwide. As SCIBS is already the leading import-export showcase Down Under, yards and owners alike are celebrating a return to something like normalcy.

Sydney is only holding a more cautious Festival of Boating July 29-August 1, based on its usual Convention Centre-Cockle Bay formula, before a full-on Sydney International Boat Show returns in 2022.

Other Australian Boating Industry Association venues, such as Brisbane Boat Show, have also been put back to 2022, but the relatively small Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show in Auckland is taking place from May 13-16.

Australia and New Zealand have remained fairly free of community-transmitted Covid, although there are quite a few cases among restricted international arrivals kept in quarantine. A ‘travel bubble’ between New Zealand and Australia was introduced late April for the first time, too late for the America’s Cup in March, but Australians can also visit other States if there are no outbreaks.

International arrivals including from Asia need to quarantine in designated hotels for two weeks. This may see some amendments now that vaccination programs are under way, but Australia itself has not vaccinated most of its own population and looks unlikely to do so anytime soon, so this too may affect lifting of regulations. Another ‘travel bubble’ with Singapore is being discussed.

Maritimo M55 Flybridge

Sanctuary Cove, a famous resort on the Gold Coast, is limited to about 50,000 visitors, but they are high quality. Star-rated restaurants in the vicinity report that the Magic Millions Horse Racing Carnival and Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show are two events when there is a huge run on sales of Penfolds Grange, a cabernet shiraz wine that can sell for A$1,000-plus a bottle. Boat owners frequently commute to the ambient boat show site by helicopter. These services are kept busy.

Australia’s two principal production yards, Maritimo and Riviera, are both located just across the Coomera River from the SCIBS site and are its anchor exhibitors, Maritimo more so after Riviera supported a rival same-dates boat show in recent years, but it has now returned to the fold.

Maritimo is introducing a new long-range M55 Flybridge Motor Yacht, which Design Director Tom Barry-Cotter says “fuses the latest advances in motor yacht technology and design with all the legacy features of iconic M-Series models past”. His highly-accomplished dad, Bill, celebrates his 61st year in the industry in 2021, having established three major brands in his career – Mariner Cruisers, Riviera and then Maritimo in 2003.

Maritimo S55 Sedan

“The new M55’s variable deadrise hull with deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft is focussed on offshore cruising performance, comfort and stability,” Tom says.

“As with all M-Series models, the foundations of the M55’s design and engineering are centred on direct drive shaft technology, which Maritimo has developed, whilst many others switched between drive system fads of the era. We are now world leaders in providing this performance, powered by standard twin Volvo Pentas, with options to upgrade in the Volvo Penta range or to use Scanias.”

The latest Maritimo Sedan S55 is also featured, along with a wide range of other models including the acclaimed X-Series. The S55’s expanded cockpit hardtop can intriguingly be used as extra deck space “in line with our reputation for breaking out of the status quo”.

Dufour 470

Riviera meanwhile presently has a range of 22 Sports Motor Yachts, SUVs, Flybridge and Sport Yachts models from 39-72ft.

“The show will provide boating enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to step aboard the exceptional new Riviera 645 SUV, the outstanding flagship of the sporty and adventurous six-model SUV collection of motor yachts,” says a spokesman.

“The 645 SUV will be accompanied at this year’s boat show by her sisterships the 445, 505 and 575 SUVs, as well as the luxurious and long-range 72, 64 and 50 Sports Motor Yachts, the stylish and sophisticated 6000, 5400 and 4800 Sport Yacht Platinum Editions, and the blue-water heritage 57 Enclosed Flybridge.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

“A number of exclusive social events form part of our ninth Riviera Festival of Boating, held during SCIBS, including the Riviera owners’ ladies’ lunch, and a night at the Riviera Owners Party aboard The YOT Club, a floating superyacht entertainment hub that will be the social heart of this year’s display.”

Multihulls, both sail and power, have leapt into prominence in the last decade, so it is no surprise that Sunshine Coast-based Multihull Solutions, which also has sales outlets in Singapore and Phuket, is in a similarly premier position.

They are showcasing the new MY5 power catamaran by Fountaine Pajot and that famous brand’s Elba 45 sailing cat. The impressive and recently-released ILIAD 50 power catamaran will also be on display and sister company The Yacht Sales is hosting the Asia-Pacific premiere of the Dufour 470 sailing yacht.

Iliad 50

Asia-Pacific’s largest builder, Taiwan-based Horizon, will officially unveil the Horizon FD87 at this year’s show. The model, one of the most popular to date, is a special edition Cor D Rover design, says Horizon Yachts Australia’s director Mark Western. Helipad on the roof, heated jacuzzi on the bow.

Palm Beach Motor Yachts, which merged with and seriously upgraded Grand Banks models, is showing the GT60, “set to become the new flagship of our modern sports line-up”, and the GB60, “the

most fuel-efficient model in is class, capable of speeds in the mid-30s and a cruising range of around 2,000nm at 10 knots,” says PBMY director Joel Butler.

Horizon FD87

Other renowned yards taking part include Sunseeker, Azimut, Princess, Integrity, Whitehaven, Ocean Alexander, Fleming, Lagoon, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Leopard and Prestige. Sanctuary Cove is Australia’s first fully-integrated residential resort and marina, plus two championship golf courses. It offered palatial home sales without Foreign Investment Board Approval being needed.

Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston performed at the opening in the late 1980s. Nowadays it is owned by Malaysia’s Mulpha, a property and resort conglomerate with an extensive Australian portfolio.
