The new wallywhy100 will boast the series’ trademark aft sea terrace

Expect the new wallywhy100 to draw on key features of her larger sisters – the wallywhy200 and wallywhy150. In one private presentation staged earlier this year, designs showed off a cutting-edge, open-terrace design reminiscent of those earlier models, delivered in a sleek and nimble 70-footer.

An airy place to sit and admire surroundings on the water

Naturally, the 21.4m yacht will boast the line’s trademark aft sea terrace. On the wallywhy100, a 14sqm beach deck with hydraulic hi-lo platform can launch tenders and toys up to 3.6m long, while a separate hydraulic passerelle-swim ladder will offer easy access to water or dock.

Drop-down wings aft will extend the terrace by almost 50 per cent.

Another standout feature comes via Wally’s iconic ‘stealth-style’ glass superstructure – an expansive open-plan space with hybrid saloon and dining area, designed to foster easy flow from bow to stern. At the helm, a joystick controls two Volvo Penta D13-IPS engines up to 1,000p each for a top speed of 27 knots.

On the foredeck, flexibility is evident with a multi-use lounge that can be transformed into a spot for aperitivo or alfresco dining and two seats that can be converted into sunbeds facing aft.

Global yacht market worth €33 billion as 11 per cent growth is recorded

The global yacht market continues to grow, led by the superyacht category. In a market now worth €33 billion, over 25 billion came from the superyacht segment, the Italian Marine Industry Association and Deloitte said in a new report on July 15, 2024.

Stefano Pagani Isnardi presented global yacht market report Global yacht market report reveals North America leads new builds Global yacht market report says market for superyachts is growing Orders made during Covid spur growth says global yacht market report

Confindustria Nautica’s Stefano Pagani Isnardi presented findings

Italy, a world leader in superyacht production, holds a 54 per cent market share. The country’s total boatbuilding industry has also continued to grow, with a 20 per cent increase on the previous year, with a recorded turnover of 4.4 billion.

The global new-build market reached 33 billion in 2022, up 11 per cent year-on-year, primarily led by an increased demand of new buyers, with growth in prices also a consideration.

“The yachting sector has remained solid throughout 2023, maintaining the same reactive growth trend that has defined the post-pandemic years: turnover in the industrial segments – boatbuilding and the production of marine equipment and engines – is expected to even exceed the record value of 8 billion,” said Stefano Pagani Isnardi, Head of the Confindustria Nautica, or Italian Marine Industry Association’s, Market Intelligence and Research Department, who released the report called The State of the Art of the Global Yachting Market, with Deloitte.

“Among the key factors fuelling this growth is shipbuilding exports, having reached an all-time high for yachting units produced in Italy in 2023, exceeding the significant threshold of €4 billion.”

Stefano Pagani Isnardi presented global yacht market report Global yacht market report reveals North America leads new builds Global yacht market report says market for superyachts is growing Orders made during Covid spur growth says global yacht market report

Findings show that North America leads the global new build market

North America and Europe account for approximately 70 per cent of the global market, with motorboats representing approximately 90 per cent of the market when it comes to propulsion.

In North America, outboard engines take the lead at approximately 70 per cent, while in Europe inboard engines represent about 50 per cent.

The report highlighted the dominance of the global superyacht sector. New orders reached 600 units, up 21 per cent, and are valued at 25.3 billion.

New orders show a significant demand for yachts measuring between 30m and 40m, built using steel and composite materials and 60 percent are in for yachts over 60m.

Despite clear growth in the superyacht category, actual penetration remains limited, which reveals a significant untapped potential, the report said. Demand potential is estimated to be at about 3 per cent and is swayed by positive forecasts for a rise between 2023-2028 for ultra-high net worths in emerging markets, which show a 5 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

The yachting industry finds itself below the average of other luxury sectors, the report said, possibly due to a 4 per cent decline in 2022 of the number of recorded billionaires.

Stefano Pagani Isnardi presented global yacht market report Global yacht market report reveals North America leads new builds Global yacht market report says market for superyachts is growing Orders made during Covid spur growth says global yacht market report

The market for superyachts is growing with untapped potential to increase further

Report measures 400 M&A deals worldwide

From 2021 to 2023, the yachting market witnessed approximately 400 merger and acquisition (M&A) deals, with about 57 per cent in downstream segments of the value chain. About 58 per cent of these sales came from North America, with marine operators accounting for approximately 60 per cent and financial investors 20 per cent.

In Italy, 30 M&A deals took place. About 50 per cent of sales were related to marine components and equipment, and about 40 per cent were involved shipyards that are active in construction segments.

Italy’s yachting industry remains a dominant force – also led by superyachts

With a market share of 54 per cent, the Italian superyacht sector remains a global leader. Its overall shipbuilding industry represents a 15 per cent share of international yacht production. Its value rose 20 per cent in 2022 to about 4.4 billion, with about 90 per cent of production exported to international markets.

Compared to the global market, Italian shipyards remain focused primarily on the production and sale of inboard boats (91 per cent versus 52 per cent), with a CAGR of 15.6 per cent over the period between 2017 and 2022.

Despite being a fragmented sector, with many small to medium-sized manufacturers, the country’s top 10 producers account for 83 per cent of the sector’s value, the report said.

Stefano Pagani Isnardi presented global yacht market report Global yacht market report reveals North America leads new builds Global yacht market report says market for superyachts is growing Orders made during Covid spur growth says global yacht market report

Some new growth can be attributed to delivery of orders made during the Covid pandemic

Global yachting growth predictions

Looking forward, annual growth for the global retail market is expected to reach 6 per cent between 2024 and 2026. Large yachts will be a significant driving force behind the growth, while the craft boats segment is expected to slow. The sailing segment will continue a positive trend of about 3 – 5 per cent growth, the report forecasts. New builds in the Italian shipbuilding segments will be driven in part by the delivery of orders made during the Covid pandemic period and are expected to increase between 5 per cent and 15 per cent.

The State of the Art of the Global Yachting Market is the second report from the Confindustria Nautica (Italian Marine Industry Association) and Deloitte and offers insights from 2021 onwards. Final figures for 2023 will be presented by the Italian Marine Industry Association in September during the 64th Genoa International Boat Show.

The Princess Yachts S80 will debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September

Princess Yachts, the UK’s largest luxury yacht manufacturer, will showcase two world premieres at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival in September as part of an eight-yacht line-up – the first showing of two highly-anticipated S Class models, the all-new Princess S80 and S65 sports yachts.

The S Class series has broadened Princess’ appeal to a thrill-seeking audience searching for speed, fun, and excitement – but who refuse to compromise on comfort, space and flexibility. These yachts are about feeling connected to the water, bringing loved ones together and cruising in ultimate luxury and style.

Princess S80

The S80 completes the Princess 80ft trilogy, following the highly successful, award-winning X80 and Y80 models. She is also the flagship of the S Class sport-yacht range renowned for delivering the perfect blend of sportiness and luxury, epitomising the brand’s commitment to performance and style.

Elegant yet dynamic exterior lines provide a sleek profile and a powerful stance that belies the volume on board with spacious, open-plan layouts that integrate indoor and outdoor living areas.

Whilst she shares the same hull and lower accommodation layout as her 80ft siblings, that is where the similarities end. Her sleek profile and exterior styling are much more akin the beautiful S72, but it is her main deck that makes the S80 a completely different proposition.

Melita Koulmandas has built a Cambodian island paradise dedicated to ecological harmony and restorative experiences.

We highlight a Game Changer who inspires, educates and celebrates individuality, beauty and style. This month, meet Melita Koulmandas, a sustainable travel pioneer and CEO and founder of Song Saa Private Island, off the coast of Cambodia.

What was it about Cambodia and Song Saa in particular that you were so drawn to?

I moved to Cambodia in 2004. I have a very adventurous spirit and I love visiting remote destinations, and I was captured by the essence of Cambodia in the people, the energy and the vibrancy. But back then Cambodia was very much still waking up after the Khmer Rouge, and it is a country, even to this day, that’s in healing. 70 percent of the population were under the age of 30 back then, so it had this really young, dynamic spirit. There was so much positivity, which was something that I think that was in contradiction to what probably people felt about the country at that time.

I had just spent two weeks circumnavigating the Koh Rong archipelago, and it was pristine and the water was crystal clear. We’d stop outside of the beaches and park overnight and sleep on the fishing boat, and monkeys would come down to the water’s edge. It was just an extraordinary experience.

Why does it matter for people to experience Cambodia?

I think that Cambodia is an incredibly special place, and though it sits between its neighbours Thailand, Vietnam and Laos three countries that have very long histories and are well defined in terms of tourism Cambodia is still working out who it is. So anyone who visits Cambodia always walks away with a sense that they have had a real, human connection with it. It doesn’t matter if they’re visiting the temples of Angkor Wat or going through Phnom Penh or coming down to the coast there’s always this unique experience of real connection that you get when you come to Cambodia. Cambodia has its own essence, its own sense of place, and its own history.

How is Song Saa’s approach to sustainability and community programmes unique compared to developments of a similar nature?

Because we started off with building community projects, with no vision at that point to open a hotel, we have designed and created a hotel experience for our guests where that is woven in from Day One, as opposed to designing and opening a hotel and making that fit into the hotel. which is very much what regenerative tourism development design is all about. So we look at the living system and how we can operate within that and help to enhance these systems. The work that we do is through the nonprofit Song Saa Foundation, which is its own entity. If the hotel shut down tomorrow, the foundation would continue to operate, so the programmes that we work with aren’t there because it makes the hotel feel good. They’re there because that is what we need, so everything is community-driven.

Would you say responsibility and luxury are, by their very nature, in opposition? Can they coexist?

I believe they can coexist. To start with, I think we have to understand what the definition of luxury is in this context, and it’s really evolved in the past few years. We don’t use the word “luxury” and haven’t for a while, we talk about high-end or responsible tourism. Coming into a country like Cambodia, even if that travelling is at a high-end level, by just connecting to the people and the culture, it brings empathy and awareness that they take home with them. Where the high-end traveller can really bring a lot of change is that they really want to understand the history and the place where they’re at, and they then often donate to the programmes that we have, so there’s that transference of awareness and support.

What are your thoughts on the changing landscape of sustainability-minded tourism in recent years, especially in Southeast Asia, and consumer expectations and how they’ve evolved?

I think they’ve evolved enormously. I think there is a greater awareness for most people, and that there is a real shift away from the tourists of 20 or 30 years ago. People now identify as travellers, and they want to have that experience and connection. Traditionally, back then people used to stay in the big hotels, where they would step into and then they would be transported back into a cocoon. And now people want to feel, connect, learn and grow, and that’s incredibly special.

The Pearl 82, a stunning 25m yacht with innovative layout options, is pushing the boundaries of yacht design with its raised pilothouse configuration, main deck master stateroom with private forepeak terrace, and an additional four en-suite staterooms.

This is the only yacht in its class to feature a raised pilothouse (RPH) design, a garage large enough to accommodate a Williams 395 and Sea-Doo jet ski, and two aft-deck configurations – Riviera or Veranda – allowing owners to tailor the Pearl 82 to their lifestyle preferences.

Under the guidance of Pearl’s exclusive British design duo – naval architect Bill Dixon and interior stylist Kelly Hoppen CBE – the Pearl 82 blends performance with sophistication. Dixon’s exterior design amplifies the yacht’s sporty profile alongside substantial interior volumes, while Hoppen’s interiors provide a sophisticated and luxurious ambience, characterised by open-plan arrangements and panoramic views.

As a boutique yacht builder, Pearl focuses on a limited annual production of high-quality vessels ensuring meticulous attention to detail and exclusivity. The Pearl 82 exemplifies the brand’s commitment to delivering yachts that not only meet but exceed the high expectations of its discerning clientele.

“The all-new Pearl 82’s design revealed in [Boot] Düsseldorf [in January] set the stage for what will be a truly spectacular world premiere at Cannes next September,” stated Iain Smallridge, founder and managing director of Pearl Yachts.

“This yacht is a testament to our feature-focused philosophy and innovative spirit, and to our dedication to pushing the limits of yacht design and flawless quality.”

The world premiere of the Pearl 82 at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September promises to be a pivotal moment for Pearl, showcasing the latest advancements in luxury, design, and technology, and consolidating Pearl’s position as one of the world’s finest yacht manufacturers.

Founded in 1998, with the aim of designing a range of luxury motor yachts offering voluminous interiors, combined with opulence and design excellence, Pearl Yachts is one of the UK’s most prominent shipyards.
