DCH Marine continues Asia-Pacific expansion

Now the APAC representative for Sunseeker, Saxdor and Williams, DCH Marine has big plans for growth in Southeast Asia and Oceania.

Headquartered in Hong Kong and with offices in Shenzhen (China) and Singapore, DCH Marine is planning to continue its Asia-Pacific expansion by opening offices in Phuket (Thailand), as well as across Australia, including in New South Wales, Gold Coast and Perth.

A newly branded dealership with a decade of success in Greater China, DCH Marine currently represents Sunseeker, Saxdor and Williams across the entire Asia-Pacific region, where the growing dealership plans to have a strong presence at the region’s leading boat shows.

A participant at the recent Lantau Yacht Club Boat Show – Festa Nautica in Hong Kong, DCH Marine is preparing to exhibit at the Hong Kong International Boat Show (November 28-December 1, 2024), Thailand International Boat Show (January 9-12, 2025) and Singapore Yachting Festival (April 10-13, 2025).

The company will then turn its attention to Australia, where it will participate at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (22-25 May 2025) and Sydney International Boat Show (July 31-August 3, 2025).

Adam Waters, DCH Marine’s Managing Director, said: “DCH Marine employs many of the region’s foremost yachting professionals and experts, and our team continues to grow across Asia-Pacific as we roll out new markets and offices.

We’ve always been committed to providing the best customer experience, so we’re investing heavily in our people, premises and product offerings to ensure we continue to lead in this market.”

DCH Marine’s services across its varied markets and locations in Asia-Pacific include new yacht sales, brokerage, after-sales services and maintenance. Founded in 2013 as Princess Yachts Greater China, the dealership recently concluded its official representation of the British builder, although it continues to support its Princess clients for ongoing warranty and service work.

As it recently embarked on a new era, the dealership was renamed DCH Marine ahead of its appointment as Sunseeker’s exclusive master distributor for Asia-Pacific, with the new name reflecting the company’s ownership by the Dah Chong Hong (DCH) Holdings conglomerate.

Earlier this year, Sunseeker announced DCH Marine’s representation of the brand in Singapore and then Australia and New Zealand before revealing in September that the dealership was overseeing all of Asia-Pacific – the largest territory ever assigned to a single distributor.

As DCH Marine, we entered a long-term agreement with Sunseeker International, which cemented the next step in our future,” Waters said. “Sunseeker wanted master distributors to cover large territories, and it suited us to work with them across Asia-Pacific. The partnership was a natural extension of our growth strategy.”

DCH Marine is Sunseeker’s fourth master distributor around the globe, complementing One Water Yacht Group (USA), Sunseeker London Group (Mediterranean) and Sunseeker Gulf (Middle East).

From its manufacturing base in Poole on England’s south coast, Sunseeker employs about 2,200 people and every year produces around 130 boats ranging from 38-161ft, with 98 per cent exported. With Asia-Pacific already home to over 500 Sunseeker yachts, DCH Marine is well-positioned to build on this strong foundation.

Douglas Culverwell, Sunseeker International’s Director of Distributor Development, said: “DCH Marine has consistently demonstrated a world-class level of customer service and support. Asia-Pacific is a vital region for Sunseeker, and we’re truly excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring.”

DCH Marine’s new yachts portfolio also includes British company Williams, one of the world’s leading producers of jet tenders and formerly represented by the dealership when it was known as Princess Yachts Greater China.

In January, DCH Marine’s ambitions were underlined when it was announced at Boot Dusseldorf that it was the Asia-Pacific representative of Saxdor, the fast-growing Finnish builder of luxury, versatile day boats and the latest shipyard founded by renowned designer Sakari Mattila.

Part of DCH Marine’s remit is to help select distributors outside of its core Asia-Pacific markets, exemplified by the recent appointment of Yacht Sourcing as Saxdor’s Indonesia representative, with more to come.

Hong Kong’s Scallywag 100 held off stiff competition to be the first yacht back to Malta before Germany’s Red Bandit claimed overall honours.

Offshore racing is sailing’s gruelling discipline. It is arduous, unpredictable and places immense strain on competing crews. Throughout a gripping 45th edition of the 606-nautical-mile Rolex Middle Sea Race, the qualities of perseverance, adaptability and dedication came to the fore as the 112-strong fleet confronted the vagaries of the both the weather and the contest itself.

Success at one of the world’s foremost 600-nautical-mile races demands the maximum from each individual and every crew as a collective. Rolex has partnered the Rolex Middle Sea Race and its organiser Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC) since 2002.

Hong Kong’s Scallywag 100 and the German-flagged TP52 Red Bandit secured line honours and overall victory on handicap respectively, and the stories behind the winners of the race’s main prizes are of crews working together to overcome adversity.

Scallywag 100 was joined at the front of the monohull fleet by another imperious 100ft maxi, the Monaco-flagged Black Jack 100, together with the American 88-footer Lucky, which under its previous guise as Rambler 88 claimed line honours at the race on five occasions.

The predicted tight contest played out. Throughout the race, Scallywag 100 and Black Jack 100 frequently exchanged leadership of the race. The key moment came when Scallywag 100’s decorated Spanish navigator Juan Vila made an inspired tactical call when rounding Lampedusa, one of the last main junctures in the race.

The decision was not to tack but head into a cloud to gain a better angle, a calculated risk that allowed her to pull away from her rival. Scallywag 100 arrived back in Malta to post a winning elapsed time of two days, 21 hours, 33 minutes and 29 seconds.

Scallywag 100 owner Lee Seng Huang has committed significant time and energy to the team’s campaign, with the crew fully focused on delivering success and sailing the boat to its maximum potential.

Line honours victory provided immense satisfaction for skipper David Witt and the crew after the devastation of retiring from last year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race following a broken bowsprit.

“This is a really prestigious Rolex race and a test to see if we did the right thing,” Witt said. “That’s one of the toughest races I’ve done in a 100-footer. It was a massive team effort. I am really proud of the team – we never made a mistake. Starting and finishing in Malta is fantastic and something we’d like to do it again.”

Red Bandit’s crew, led by skipper Carl-Peter Forster, is made up of two professionals and 11 talented young sailors who have assiduously followed Forster’s charitable pathway programme designed to develop the offshore sailors of tomorrow. For the skipper, success was reward for the commitment which has gone into the initiative.

“It is a dream to win the Rolex Middle Sea Race. It is a bit unreal and will be for a while. When the crew started this project, they had very little knowledge of offshore or big boat sailing,” said Forster, whose team also won last year’s 70th Rolex Giraglia.

Red Bandit, a TP52, won overall honours; Photo: Rolex  / Kurt Arrigo

“We’ve come a long way over the last three years, and everyone has learnt to sail this delicate machine. A TP52 is very difficult to handle both in the breeze and in the light winds. You can’t take your eyes off the instruments for a second.”

The crew had to contend with a brutal first night at sea. On the stretch along the east coast of Sicily from Capo Passero to the Messina Strait, and with the mighty volcano of Etna illuminating the night sky, the fleet were besieged by a violent thunderstorm.

Twelve months earlier, Red Bandit faced misfortune when forced to retire from the race at a similar stage because of equipment damage. This year the boat proved more robust, and the race proved a relentless experience.

Rolex Middle Sea Race, Malta, Scallywag 100, Hong Kong, Lee Seng Huang, David Witt, Red Bandit

Joshua Weber, Red Bandit’s navigator said: “There are lots of decisions to take and things to figure out. The race has many individual segments and longer stretches in between that you have to get right. It comes down to the whole team not just putting the boat in the right place but getting it there and going as fast as possible. It requires a huge, combined effort.”

Overcoming adversity and achieving it as a collective defines all the 600-nautical-mile offshore classics supported by Rolex. The 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race has ably demonstrated that an intrepid human spirit is a hallmark characteristic of offshore racing and Rolex’s longstanding support for this eternally appealing discipline of yachting.

Boating Sanya returns in December

Held for the first time in 2023, Boating Sanya is Hainan’s leading boat show and will return to the Sanya International Yachting Centre public marina.

The Boating Sanya show will be held from December 5-8, 2024

The 2024 edition of Boating Sanya will be held from December 5-8 at the Sanya International Yachting Centre. The four-day exhibition will occupy 13,000sqm on land – almost the size of two football pitches – and 129,100sqm of water, according to organisers.

The first edition of Boating Sanya was held at the Sanya International Yachting Centre in April 2023, soon after the public marina officially opened. Simpson Marine was among leading in-water exhibitors.

This year, exhibitors listed by organisers include European luxury yacht brands such as Azimut, Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Princess, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Lagoon, Leopard, Bali, Sessa, Saxdor, Dufour and Nautique, as well as local shipyards including Heysea.

This year’s show will collaborate with the nearby yacht marina in Sanya Port ”to present a world-class yacht bay lifestyle”, while a yacht river cruise is among new features.

Exhibitor categories include motoryachts, sailboats, equipment and accessories, diving gear, marina developers and pontoon suppliers, resort products, maritime organisations and clubs, watersports clothing, and water-related art and literature.

Seminars and round tables will focus on topics such as ‘Chinese yacht brands expand overseas’, ‘Development trends of eco-friendly energy yachts’ and ‘Yacht industry and high-end lifestyle’. Other highlights include the China Yacht Awards Ceremony, video and photography competitions, and a Yacht Fashion Lifestyle Market, as well as cocktail parties and functions.

A Free Trade Port and the biggest of China’s 20-plus free trade zones, Hainan offers zero-tariff yacht registration for imported yachts, in contrast to other provinces that can impose taxes and levies upwards of 38 per cent on imported yachts.

Situated on the southern tip of Hainan, Sanya is the hub of luxury hospitality and high-end entertainment in the island province. At the end of 2023, the city was home to 1,367 yachts, which amounts to 85 per cent of the island province’s total.

Hainan is known as ‘the Hawaii of China’, with Sanya’s average temperature in December ranging from 20-25 degrees Celsius, offering idyllic weather for visitors to the Boating Sanya show.

The Thailand International Boat Show a Luxury Lifestyle Event 2025 (TIBS 2025), with its central focus on yachting, amid other quality products and services, is all set for Phuket Yacht Haven marina from January 9-12, 2025. Following are 10 good reasons to attend.

Reason 1: Optimal location and access to a broader range of displays

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

Phuket Yacht Haven is Phuket’s largest marina and opens expansion potential for TIBS 2025, enabling the show to welcome a broader range of exhibitors including larger yachts, international brands and luxury lifestyle products.

With its 332-berth capacity and contemporary facilities, the marina offers deep-water access, with a draft of up to 6m, to allow accommodating superyachts over 100m. Superior infrastructure includes specialised pontoons for large vessels and high-power electrical outlets providing up to 500amps. Visitor amenities include an upscale bistro, crew lounges and premium leisure facilities, in a naturally sheltered environment.

Reason 2: Ideal access and timing to attract luxury property owners and yacht enthusiasts

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

Located 15 minutes away from Phuket International Airport and surrounded by world-class resorts – like the Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach, Splash Beach Resort and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas – further enhances its appeal to high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs).

The venue is easily accessible by car and has plentiful parking. Regular shuttle buggy services sponsored by Thailand Privilege will ensure ease of movement around the marina, which is key for the attendees’ experience.

Held in early January, TIBS 2025 will attract residents and visitors including villa owners and yacht enthusiasts, at the peak time for aircraft movements recorded at Phuket airport.

Reason 3: It couldn’t be easier to attend

The entrance to TIBS 2025 is free, and you can register on the day itself; however, pre-registering for ease of entry is recommended. Such accessibility allows a wide range of enthusiasts – from seasoned yacht owners to curious newcomers – to experience the world of luxury yachting and a curated selection of lifestyle brands and services.

Reason 4: Strong focus on water display and lifestyle

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

The new-format 2025 edition of TIBS builds on the success of previous years, showcasing top names in the yachting industry and luxury lifestyle brands, with over 50 yachts on display and 100 exhibitors expected.

Yacht distributors and their brands include Asiamarine (Nimbus T9, Capelli Stradivari), Azimut (Fly 53, Fly 60, Grande 26M), Boat Lagoon Yachting (Princess, Jeanneau), Derani Yachts (Axopar 37 XC, Axopar 29 XC, Fleming 85 – Thailand debut, Greenline 48 Fly), MarineXplorer (Nerea Yacht NY24 – Thailand debut), Motor Field (YOT 36), Simpson Marine (Sanlorenzo SL90A, Bluegame BGX63, Fairline Squadron 58, Fairline Targa 45GT), and Sunseeker (90 Ocean, Manhattan 68, Manhattan 55) displaying luxury yachts and marine innovations, alongside industry-leading exhibitors’ displays of cutting-edge navigation systems, bespoke yacht interiors and the like.

Reason 5: High show ratings,  exhibitor and visitor return rate

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

Exhibitors praised the past TIBS editions’ impact. Howard Prime from Simpson Marine, representing Italian luxury yacht brands Sanlorenzo and Bluegame, noted the “good quality interest” in their displays.

Recent first-time exhibitor SITICO expressed satisfaction at the show’s success, with its representative saying: “I was surprised at how good the show is and the number of leads I got.” Aqua Air Asia Watermaker sold 12 units at the 2024 show. From yachts to accessories, exhibitors cater to every aspect of yachting – and beyond.

Reason 6: Opportunity to share insights and shape the future of yachting in Thailand and beyond

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

A one-day, pre-show conference focuses on Asia’s key yachting issues. The second edition of the Thailand Yachting Conference, on January 8, 2025, will focus on critical issues facing the yachting industry in Thailand and across Asia. The latest regulations, sustainability initiatives, and business strategies shaping the future of yachting in the region will be explained, in themed seminars.

New superyacht licensing regulations in Thailand: This key session will explore Thailand’s newly revised superyacht regulations. The changes, which allow for easier access to charter licences for foreign-flagged superyachts, are set to boost Thailand’s appeal as a global yachting hub. These regulations aim to increase the number of superyachts operating in Thai waters, providing significant opportunities for local marinas, service providers and yacht operators.

Sustainability in yachting – navigating towards a greener future: Sustainability is rapidly becoming a priority in the yachting industry, and the 2025 Yachting Conference explores the latest eco-conscious trends and technology shaping the future of marine tourism in Asia.

Latest sustainability regulations affecting yachting in Asia: Several Asian countries, including Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia, are leading the charge with new regulations that promote greener yachting practices. These regulations directly impact yacht operators, builders, and marinas.

Show Gala – an evening of luxury and entertainment: Following the insightful discussions of the day, visitors will have the opportunity to attend a memorable evening at the exclusive Show Gala Dinner. Set against the backdrop of Phuket’s coastal beauty, expect an elegant night of fine dining, premium beverages, and world-class entertainment. It’s also an invaluable networking opportunity. With a guest list that includes yacht owners, industry executives and global leaders, the evening provides a relaxed setting for attendees to forge new business connections and strengthen existing relationships.

Reason 7: A sustainable event needed for Southeast Asia

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

While TIBS may not yet match the scale of European mega-shows, it has revealed steady growth since the Covid-19 pandemic, establishing itself as a crucial regional event. Its unique strength is that it attracts Asia-based buyers who may not typically attend any other international shows. This makes it an essential platform for exhibitors looking to tap into the growing Asian market.

Looking ahead, TIBS aims to become the largest luxury-lifestyle event in the region, with plans to expand its in-water show element. As the event grows, organisers are encouraged to plan and showcase eco-friendly initiatives and sustainable practices, aligning with the increasing focus on environmental responsibility in the luxury sector.

Reason 8: The event contributes to lifestyle and social economic growth in Phuket and Thailand

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

In Phuket, a global hotspot for luxury living, the yachting industry plays a crucial role in its booming economy. The island sees an influx of high-end tourists and expatriates each year, contributing to higher-than-average income levels in Thailand. The region’s increasing affluence is mirrored by a rising number of HNWIs and UHNWIs, with Southeast Asia experiencing a compound annual growth rate of 7.5 per cent in wealth.

Luxury spending across Thailand is also on the rise, and events like TIBS contribute significantly to local and domestic economic growth, boosting the hospitality and tourism sectors to visitors, with international and local purveyors of luxury lifestyle brands also showcasing their latest products and services.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand predicts that the yachting industry could generate up to THB1 billion (over US$29.8 million) annually for Phuket, positioning the island as a major player in the global yachting market.

Reason 9: Elevated lifestyle products and services

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

Complementing the displays of yachts, marine toys, accessories and services, visitors can enjoy a selection of elevated lifestyle products and services. Exhibitors include Thailand Privilege, Seabob, Flow Yacht Club, Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, Flexiteek / STEK, SITICO, Siam Legal and The Standard Residence, among others.

Reason 10: Strong show visibility and attendance

Yacht Style, Thailand International Boat Show, a Luxury Lifestyle Event, Phuket Yacht Haven, Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Fairline

The Thailand International Boat Show a Luxury Lifestyle Event 2025 promises to be a captivating show for anyone interested in the yachting lifestyle. With over 6,000 visitors expected, the show offers an opportunity to explore the best of what the yachting industry has to offer, in one of the world’s most beautiful locations.

Azimut is preparing to stage the US debut of the Seadeck 6 as part of an enormous 20-yacht display at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 30-November 3. The Seadeck 6 (click for Review) is the first model in Azimut’s new Seadeck series and has been joined recently by the in-water launch of the Seadeck 7, which has yet to make its boat show debut.

Featuring external lines by Alberto Mancini, the Seadeck 6 is notable for its Fun Island, a reinterpreted beach area with two opening wings creating an expansive terrace overlooking the sea, a high-low platform that descends to water level, and a large sunbed.

To reduce emissions, the Seadeck 6 features the Mild Hybrid Zero Emission Hotel Mode system, which allows both zero-emission anchoring and cruising with the generator off. According to Azimut, the Seadeck 6 can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent over an average year of use compared to a yacht of similar size with shaft-line propulsion and a traditional hull.

Where possible, Azimut has replaced traditional materials with natural, recycled and recyclable alternatives, such as cork used in place of teak in the decking, PET from recycled plastic replacing PVC in the bulkhead core, and lower-deck carpeting in Econyl, a fibre made of regenerated nylon from fishing nets.

Azimut’s full line-up at the Fort Lauderdale show includes models from all its series, including Verve (42, 48), Atlantis (45), S (S6, S7), Fly (50, 53, 60, 68, 72, 78), Magellano (60, 66, 25M, 30M) and Grande (26M, 27M, 36M, Trideck). Azimut’s dealers in Asia include Marine Italia, which represents the brand in Hong Kong, Guangdong, Macau, Taiwan and Singapore.

Sanlorenzo will show five models at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 30-November 3), while Bluegame will accompany its mother brand with two yachts. Over 100,000 visitors are expected for the world’s biggest in-water boat show.

Sanlorenzo’s display at the five-day show will include the SL120A, SL96A and SL90A, three asymmetric models from its planing line of fibreglass yachts.

Sanlorenzo SL90A

“The asymmetrical philosophy makes it possible to redesign the on-board balance by maximising interior and exterior spaces, and ensuring greater usability, so as to find unprecedented and optimised living solutions capable of maintaining a lively and constant relationship with the external seascape,” Sanlorenzo stated.

“In these three yachts, the concept of asymmetry is declined in different ways, also due to the different dimensions, but always preserving intact the elegance and distinctive style of Sanlorenzo.”

The Italian shipyard will also show the SD96 from its semi-displacement line, and the SX88, the pioneer of its crossover series combining the classic flybridge motor yacht with explorer styling and functionality.

New technology on the SX88 includes new lighting technologies, low-consumption on-board systems, thermal insulation provided by special windows, and a large energy reserve provided by the lithium batteries, allowing up to eight hours of zero-emission operations.

Bluegame BGX63

Bluegame will show its BGX63, the second model in the brand’s innovative crossover range that complements Sanlorenzo’s larger SX series, and the BG42 open walkaround day-cruiser. Simpson Marine represents both Sanlorenzo and Bluegame in Asia-Pacific.

Benetti will stage the American debut of the Diamond 44M at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) from October 30-November 3. The Diamond 44M Abbentures² will be displayed at Stand SYV alongside Grateful, an Oasis 34M.

Nick Bischoff, Benetti Country Manager Americas, said: “FLIBS represents a crucial event for Benetti in the constantly growing Americas market. This positive trend is confirmed by the recent sales of an 80m full-custom yacht and two new units of the B.Now 50M line, demonstrating our commitment and customer trust in this market.”

The four-deck Diamond 44M is the fibreglass flagship of Benetti’s Class family of models and features exterior styling by Cassetta Yacht Designers and interiors by Benetti. The lower deck has four VIP cabins and the crew quarters, while the main deck is home to the master cabin, saloon and galley.

The upper deck features a large interior living area that extends outside towards the stern, as well as the helm station and captain’s cabin. The sundeck offers over 102sqm that can be fitted out according to the owner’s preferences. The yacht is powered by two 1,400hp MAN engines, delivering a top speed of 15 knots and a range of 4,100 nautical miles at 11 knots.

Grateful, an Oasis 34M

Grateful is an Oasis 34M, a design collaboration between Benetti, UK-based RWD for exterior styling and Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture for the interior. The smaller sister of the Oasis 40M, the Oasis 34M has a beach club with two wings that open laterally to enlarge the deck area. The aft infinity pool offers an unrestricted 270-degree view, as does the main deck saloon.

The interiors feature neutral colours and shades of grey, interspersed with detailing in materials that tend towards blue and sky blue, such as the bespoke bookcase on the main deck, in which the standard Green Onyx has been replaced with a blue mirror.

Other changes to the standard design have been made. The dining table, usually on the upper deck, is located on the main deck; the jet ski is housed in the bow on the upper deck with a davit to haul it up; a firepit is installed astern on the main deck; and an American bar is featured in the aft section of the sundeck.

On the first day of the show, Benetti will present new projects unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show to American brokers. Designer Giorgio M. Cassetta will introduce the new B.Loft line, Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture and Igor Lobanov will present the new B.Yond models (40M and 57M), while RWD will outline the new Motopanfilo 45M, which includes interiors by Lazzarini Pickering Architetti.

Opening ceremony for the YPAC at the Gold Coast City Marina in Australia

AkzoNobel’s yacht coatings business has opened its first Yacht Paint Application Center (YPAC) in the Asia-Pacific region, with the new base in Australia offering world-class product and technical training alongside the latest cutting-edge digital paint application tools.

Located in the Gold Coast City Marina in Coomera, the state-of-the-art facility in Queensland was launched to enhance AkzoNobel’s global technical network, which supports applicators and industry professionals with personalised consultations and a hands-on training programme to improve skills and deliver high-quality results.

Simon Knight, Regional Sales Manager of AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings, hosted the YPAC’s opening ceremony, with Jemma Lampkin, Commercial Director of AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings, attending the special occasion.

Knight said: “The opening of the Yacht Paint Application Center in Asia-Pacific reinforces our commitment to meeting the specific needs of our customers in this rapidly growing market. With personalised services, product expertise and cutting-edge technology, we are uniquely positioned as a partner of choice for any type of project.”

Featuring a mezzanine-level training room, paint mixing room, preparation bays and an advanced spray booth, the facility serves as a hub for product education and professional training.

Applicators and distributor representatives can receive theoretical and practical training on the paint-application process for yachts of all sizes. The curriculum includes preparation, priming, filling, topcoat application, maintenance and repair of the paint system.

The announcement follows the launch of the Virtual Reality (VR) Spray Gun and the XpertEye headset, two new digital innovations alongside the Awlgrip 3D Color Visualizer, which will be available at the YPAC to further enhance the training experience.

Demonstration of the Virtual Reality (VR) Spray Gun

Designed to enhance training for both experienced and new applicators, the VR Spray Gun simulates real-world yacht painting techniques without using any physical product. Applicators can use Awlgrip®, Interlux®, International® or Sea Hawk® systems to practise adjusting spray-gun settings, mastering application angles, and improving techniques for primers, topcoats and fouling control.

The VR Spray Gun provides users with instant feedback on their technique, which allows them to refine their skills before working with real coatings.

For applicators and boatyards seeking remote technical support, the XpertEye camera headset is a safe and hands-free visual assistant tool that connects users directly to the AkzoNobel technical team for real-time technical support.

Users can stream live video and capture images, enabling the AkzoNobel team to observe issues and provide immediate guidance from anywhere in the world. The software is compatible with both Apple and Google operating systems, and can be easily accessed via mobile devices, ensuring support is always within reach.

The Awlgrip 3D Color Visualizer is an innovative, industry-leading tool designed to empower boaters and applicators by simplifying their journey to find the ideal colour for their boat. Unique algorithms provide users with a visual representation of what their boat could look like in a 3D virtual environment. The Awlgrip colour database offers users access to tens of thousands of colours.

Kane Barfoot, AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings’ Regional Technical Services Coordinator, said: “Our focus is to empower professional applicators with the knowledge and skills they need to excel.

“Following on from the success of our YPACs in North America and Europe, this new facility will offer comprehensive training programmes that cover everything from theoretical paint knowledge to innovative application techniques. We’re excited to be the centre for professional development in the region, helping applicators, distributors, retailers and yards stay ahead of the curve.”

The new wallyrocket51, the first “pure racing sailing model” signed by Wally, has been launched. This represents a new milestone in sailing innovation while maintaining the brand’s aim for strength in style and performance in equal measure.

Conceived to be the fastest owner-driver monotype in the world, she is also designed to excel in IRC and ORC competitions, thanks to a design optimised in every detail.

Wally’s sailing yachts have previously been noted for innovation, achieving benchmarks for performance. In this new model, acquired knowledge, flair and precision are channelled into a new design and competitive-sailing direction.

With a length of 15.5m, the wallyrocket51 features a light displacement of 6.3 tonnes and a refined hull. The new design was realised together with Botin Partners, known for their America’s Cup experience and success in the 50ft and 100ft classes. The boat’s design allows for a rating bonus due to its length (qualifying for TP52 racing) and innovative features such as the trim tab, which improves upwind lift while reducing drag.

The wallyrocket51 is designed to be not only fast, but also versatile and easy to manoeuvre, even with a reduced crew of 11 on board. The water ballast at the stern further enhances the stability and strength of the hull, while the ergonomics of the deck are designed to ensure maneuverability with varying numbers of people on hand. Her sail plan, with 167sqm of surface area when sailing upwind and 363sqm when sailing downwind, together with advanced materials such as pre-preg carbon, Nomex and Corecell contribute to making the boat very competitive and technologically advanced.

The wallyrocket51 seems to have brought a ‘serious’ sailing yacht that combines style and performance – not to mention fun – at the highest level with a well-honed new design that could well mark a new chapter in the world of racing.
