Silent-Yachts has opened a new office in Port Adriano in the southwest of Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands and among the key yachting hubs in the Mediterranean.

A Silent 55 and Silent 64 are docked in front of the office and available for sea trials. Later this summer, the two yachts will be joined by the first Silent 60, which was built by PMG Shipyard in Thailand and features a kitewing.

Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent-Yachts, said: “Our new base is like our second home. Mallorca and the Balearics in general are popular yachting destinations – sunny, warm, with clean azure seas and many amazing places that have to be visited on board a yacht.

“The new office helps us keep our solar-electric catamarans close to our clients and partners. We’re always open for a chat, visit or sea trial.”

SILENT IN FLORIDA
Across the Atlantic, Silent-Yachts’ exclusive US distributor Edward Sacks has set up a branch in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“Florida is the hot spot for US yachting enthusiasts and we’re happy to take a seat in the region,” Köhler said. “The location is close to the site of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, has direct water access and a comfortable conference room for product demonstrations.”

SILENT 55 FRONT EXIT
Meanwhile, the builder has delivered the seventh unit of the Silent 55, a model built in China since 2018. The new hull for a client in Switzerland is the first to feature a front saloon door offering direct access to the bow lounge, instead of a full-width master suite forward of the saloon. Four guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms are split between the port and starboard hulls.

Fitted with a pair of 250kW e-motors, a 100kW diesel generator and 210kWh lithium batteries, the new catamaran reached 18 knots during sea trials. All Silent-Yachts models can cruise up to 100nm per day relying solely on solar-electric power, without vibration, noise or exhausts.

Dolceriva sports hard top

Riva has released an updated version of the 48ft Dolceriva with a new exterior design and a hard top featuring carbon-fibre detailing.

Officina Italiana Design designed the new version of the Dolceriva

Riva has launched a new edition of its popular Dolceriva featuring a hard top that shelters the boat’s central social areas from the sun and rain while sporting carbon-fibre detailing.

The 48-footer has a beam of 14ft and features a refined exterior by Officina Italiana Design, which has designed Riva models for over 25 years and works with the Ferretti Group’s Engineering Department and Product Strategy Committee.

The hard top covers the cockpit and helm station

The new hard top is made from a carbon-vinyl ester hybrid composite material to reduce weight and increase strength and stiffness, while several sections are made of steel. Designed to cover the external cockpit and helm station, the hard top can help enclose the entire area in tandem with transparent awnings on both sides, forward and aft. Air-conditioning can also be installed.

The hull window design stems from a research process by Officina Italiana Design. Generated by a black pencil stroke along the silver side of the yacht, it deftly ascends towards the deck. This has led to an innovative hull-deck coupling system: the aft area, totally freed from the fender bar, features a carbon-fibre air vent with a steel frame.

The black hull glazing is a distinct feature

Aesthetic touches include the windshield made with innovative spherical crystals and featuring a slight counter-curvature.

The forward surface on the main deck sports high-gloss mahogany with 20 coats of varnish, punctuated by a crystal section with a built-in skylight, which allows the master cabin below to receive natural sunlight. The exterior part in glossy mahogany features classic white maple seams.

The forward surface sports high-gloss mahogany

At the centre is chrome-plated aluminium alloy casing completed by a mahogany mast flying the Riva pennant, reminiscent of the fittings found on past models. Other details that pay tribute to the Riva tradition include the aft, forward and side lifelines in mahogany and steel, as well as the mahogany aft wings. Steel also plays a leading role, often used as a separation between the various elements.

The hatch, which features a structural bench when closed, swings open to reveal inbuilt mahogany steps as well as a large surface. Using the inclination of the stern and the level beach area, two specially designed ergonomic sun pads can be positioned over the hatch. With the hatch open, more steps appear, complete with two storage compartments that can be used to house Seabobs.

Aft of the cockpit are two sun pads

Beyond the two sun pads, separated by a central walkway, is the cockpit leading to the dinette located amidships, furnished with two large facing sofas and a folding steel-and-mahogany table that seats up to eight people.

Beyond this is the helm station, with pilot and co-pilot seats, which are enhanced by details such as the leather and chromed-steel inserts and a carbon lifeline on the left side of the windshield.

The lower deck has a sofa to port and galley to starboard

A steel-and-glass hatch accesses stairs that lead down to a lower lounge featuring a dinette with a spacious sofa, a kitchen and a bathroom with separate shower and closet. A 43-inch TV is installed on the starboard bulwark.

The owner’s cabin is located forward and has a central bed, two walk-in closets and storage trunks. A second double cabin has two separable beds. In keeping with Riva style, interior materials include fine woods, mirrored surfaces, leather elements, and steel and lacquered woods with both matt and glossy finishes.

The lower lounge also has a 43-inch TV

Dolceriva features a V-Drive shaft line propulsion system and mounts twin Volvo Penta D13 engines, each rated 1,000mhp at 2,400 rpm (optional). In terms of performance, the model can reach a top speed of 40 knots, with a cruising speed of 35 knots. The auto-trim function is provided by interceptor management.

The helm station features one 12-inch touchscreen and an additional 16-inch touchscreen as an option. It is equipped with EmpirBus, the Garmin monitoring system that incorporates functions including generator state and parameter display, Seakeeper stabilisation system management (if installed), manoeuvre and alarm management.

The master cabin is forward and has two walk-in closets

The optional manoeuvring joystick features docking mode for easy handling in confined waters, such as when mooring alongside, with lateral movement obtained by the combined action of the main propellers and the proportional bow thruster.

Also available on request is the driving mode function, allowing the Dolceriva to be piloted exclusively through the joystick. On request, a Seakeeper NG6 stabilizer can be installed to minimise rolling at anchor.

Sanlorenzo showcases X-Space

Sanlorenzo showcases X-Space

SHARE

The Italian builder has revealed the design thoughts behind the X-Space, a 44m, 495GT superyacht with a spectacular outdoor pool and open aft deck, and extensive use of glass.

The 44m X-Space has a volume of 495GT

Sanlorenzo revealed its new X-Space online with a live walk-through tour of the first hull under construction alongside project renders and design insights. The 44m, five-deck yacht features an exterior by Zuccon International Project and an interior design by Pierro Lissoni, with the first hull set to launch in 2023.

The X-Space has a remarkable volume of 495GT, a sub-500GT figure typically associated with 50m superyacht. The signature feature is the open aft area on the main deck, a multi-tasking terrace with an 18sqm swimming pool overlooking the sea that can also be ‘closed up’ during transfers or while in the marina. The outdoor space can be extended by another 18sqm due to the fold-down balconies that connect to the living area inside.

The yacht is distinguished by its open aft main deck

The wheelhouse is located on the bridge deck, so the upper deck can be entirely dedicated to the owner. Independent from the other areas, the owner’s deck includes a study, living room and a large master cabin that’s framed by glass walls and overlooks a 30sqm private foredeck with sunbeds and a pool.

Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project, a regular collaborator with Sanlorenzo, said: I think it has never been so important as it has in this project to seek to identify with the owner, who will be the great commander of this boat, hence the desire to create an entire deck dedicated to their needs. This is a solution normally found on larger boats.

The 18sqm pool can be open to sea views or ‘closed’ aft

“It shows this is a yacht where the owner will have the great luxury of being able to spend a lot of time on board. I’ve always thought architecture is the primary tool to allow man to live better. In this case, the X-Space was born with the desire not to create a wonderful floating structure but to create a wonderful vessel for life.”

Another notable theme is transparency and the extensive use of glass to offer greater views and further blur the lines between outdoor and indoor areas.

The first X-Space will be launched in 2023

Lissoni said: “There are large panes of glass, large windows and some of the cabins no longer even have portholes but glass walls. The interior has forced its hand on the exterior, which has been so elastic and so well designed that the interior has almost adapted itself in a totally natural way.

“I think this is the most innovative language I’ve seen on a superyacht to date. It has made it possible to create a compact boat but with extraordinary proportions and the unique quality of Sanlorenzo.”

Sanlorenzo is represented in Asia by Simpson Marine.

Delta Marina & Express Service will offer 600 moorings south of Lantau and a fast transfer service from multiple locations across Hong Kong.

Delta Marina is based in Hei Ling Chau typhoon shelter, south of Mui Wo

Delta Marina, a new mooring facility south of Lantau Island, is set to open in autumn and offer up to 600 moorings complemented by a 15-minute Delta Express tender service from Aberdeen. Delta Marina is situated in the Hei Ling Chau typhoon shelter, which is among new moorings facilities proposed by the Government’s Marine Department.

A Delta Express On-Demand tender service also connects Delta Marina to other pick-up/drop-off points including Central (22 minutes), Causeway Bay and Deep Water Bay on Hong Kong Island, as well as Discovery Bay (8 minutes) and Mui Wo (3 minutes) on the south coast of Lantau. The fast limousine is a comfortable, purpose-built 18-passenger tender that cruises at 24 knots.

Delta Express offers fast transfers to/from points across Hong Kong

“Hei Ling Chau typhoon shelter is a great facility just begging to be used,” says Bart Kimman of Delta Marina and Express Service.

“We are offering a seamless end-to-end service that includes assistance with the acquisition of a proper legal mooring in a Government Typhoon Shelter followed up by a service package to look after your boat that includes security, water, limited electricity, grey and black water pump-out, mooring inspection, typhoon preparation and assistance with on-site servicing, maintenance and repairs.”

Delta Marina can also provide interior/exterior cleaning, catering and provisioning services, dinghy and tender hire, water toy hire, and professional captain and crew hire.

Delta Marina offers a wide range of services for yachts

“It really is a one-stop-shop arrangement,” Kimman adds. “We’ll get you onto a mooring, look after your boat like it’s our own, get it ready to use, put a crew on board, tidy it up afterwards, and handle annual surveys, inspections and licensing requirements. Call it a yacht concierge service.”

The facility offers plenty of space for 100ft-plus superyachts as well as multihulls, which frequently struggle with marina access and mooring grids unsuitable for their beam. The Marine Department lists over 10,000 registered private leisure vessels in Hong Kong, while there are only about 5,000 public and private moorings.

Fairline’s F//Line 33, its smallest and fastest yacht

Fairline Yachts is being acquired by Hanover Investors, a London-based private equity investor founded in 2002.

“We are delighted to welcome Fairline into our family of portfolio companies,” said Matthew Peacock, founder and CEO of Hanover Investors. “It is a company with a rich heritage of quality, luxury and engineering excellence, and we believe that, with our backing and expertise, it can realise its full potential.”

Jason Carley, who joined Hanover Investors in March as Senior Partner, provides a strong connection to Fairline, having formerly been Chairman of the luxury yacht builder. He was formerly at RiverRock, which was announced as increasing its investment in Fairline in July 2020.

“It is great to be back on board with Fairline. I know from my previous involvement with the company how much potential it has,” Carley said. “It has a very strong order book, an exciting product range and the factory is very busy. We are going to back the management team and the company as a whole to unlock the value within it and to catalyse its growth.”

Multihulls Special 2021: Aquila joins ‘big league’

Multihulls Special 2021: Aquila joins ‘big league’

SHARE

Yacht Style’s annual Multihulls Special highlights how Aquila has joined the big league of catamaran builders with the releases of its fast-selling 54 and flagship 70 models.

The Aquila 70 reaches 27 knots with twin 1,000hp Volvo D13 inboards

Aquila moved into a whole new sector of the powercat market when it launched the Aquila 70 (see REVIEW), a model that had its world premiere at the 35th Palm Beach International Boat Show earlier this year.

The 70’s size puts it up against the likes of Sunreef’s 60, 70 and 80 Power models, Lagoon’s Sixty 7 and Seventy 8 powercats, and Fountaine Pajot’s Power 67. However, Aquila says the primary distinctions of its new flagship are its motor yacht-style lines and performance, with twin 1,000hp Volvo D13 inboards powering her to 27 knots.

The Aquila 70 has a central platform for the tender – and entertaining

Aquila has also released its new 54, which was developed simultaneously with the 70. It shares many of the design traits of its big sister including the option of an enclosed flybridge, a high-low swim platform that carries a purpose-built Aquila tender, and central stairs from the flybridge to foredeck.

Inside, it also offers multiple main-deck and accommodation layouts including the option of a full-beam master cabin forward of the saloon.

The brand says multiple units of the 70 have been sold, although the huge sales story was the overwhelming popularity of the equally-new 54, as Aquila’s sales across the globe continued to rise post Covid.

Aquila has reported remarkable sales of its 54 including for the Gulf of Thailand

“The initial drop at the beginning of Covid was followed by a surge in orders,” says Yvan Eymieu, Aquila’s International Sales and Distribution Manager. “The first quarter of 2021 has been fantastic for international sales, notably from Europe.”

The sales of the 54 have included an order from the Gulf of Thailand through regional dealer Simpson Marine, which represents the brand in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Cambodia. And while the American markets prefer the enclosed ‘skylounge’, clients in Europe, Asia and elsewhere show a preference for the open flybridge.

Like the 70, the 54 can have a full-beam owner’s suite forward of the saloon

The new 54 and 70 have radically expanded the offering by Aquila, which was founded in 2012 by MarineMax and Sino Eagle, and initially focused on building for the MarineMax Vacations charter fleet in the Caribbean and for private clients in the US.

Gradually, the private orders started to overtake the charter demand, but arguably the biggest change has been the increase in ‘international’ private sales, especially for the larger, inboard models.

The 36 is set to overtake the 44 as Aquila’s most popular model

Alongside the spectacular sales of the 54, orders for Aquila’s ‘core’ models have continued to thrive over the past year. Aquila notably completed the 100th hull of its 44 in May 2020 – delivering that unit to an owner in Hong Kong – before matching that production figure for its 36 in December.

Aquila says strong demand continues for the 44, a model that debuted in early 2014, and the even faster-selling 36, which was launched in 2017 as the brand’s first model with outboard engines. The 36 is offered in a variety of configurations, including for fishing and diving, while a Hydro Glide Foil System to reduce consumption is also available.

Aquila recently released an upgraded version of its Aquila 32

According to Eymieu, the Aquila 36 has proved the most popular model in Asia and two more units are due to arrive in Singapore by the fourth quarter of this year.

“The orders keep increasing in most of the Asian markets,” says Eymieu. “We are very satisfied with the collaboration with Simpson Marine and the development of the brand in Asia.”

The new Aquila 32 has a fixed swim platform, revised seating configuration and new hardtop

Meanwhile, the Aquila 32 has sold steadily since its debut in 2019 and is now produced in an updated design featuring an upgraded seating configuration, new hardtop and a fixed swim platform between the outboards with a customised, fully stowed swim ladder. A new entry-level model will be added to the range this year. www.aquilaboats.com www.simpsonmarine.com

Aquila 70 bridges best of both worlds

Designed to be as sleek and fast as a monohull motor yacht, the Aquila 70 also offers the enormous living areas of a large powercat, while luxurious, semi-custom interiors and advanced technologies further open the doors to a new level of clientele.

The French builder’s flagship sailboat has been sold into Hong Kong by long-time dealer Simpson Marine.

The Oceanis Yacht 62 will become Hong Kong’s biggest Beneteau

Simpson Marine has sold an Oceanis Yacht 62 into Hong Kong, where it will arrive late in the year and become the biggest of the brand’s 200-plus boats in the city. Featuring naval architecture by Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design, Beneteau’s flagship sailboat has an overall length of 62ft 10in, a clean deck, chined hull, twin rudders for better control and a balanced sail plan.

The fold-out transom offers access to a 3.5m tender garage

The transom opens to create a large swim platform that accesses the 3.5m by 1.7m dinghy garage, which Beneteau believes is the biggest among similarly sized yachts. Six sun beds are distributed between the stern, cockpit, coach roof and foredeck (double sun bed with lights and speakers built in).

The interior has a long galley to starboard and chart table to port

The interior styling by Andrea Design is modern and clean, featuring luxurious materials and exclusive woodwork. The layout is centred around a spacious saloon bathed in light by large hull windows and skylights, while a long galley lines the starboard side.

The saloon features a height-adjustable, expandable table

The forward en-suite owner’s cabin has a large island bed and can accommodate an office. Two similar-sized guest cabins are aft, the starboard version with private en-suite while the port cabin has direct access to the day head.

The spacious owner’s suite is in the bow

Headquartered in Hong Kong, Simpson Marine has represented Beneteau since 1985 and has 100 staff in seven countries and territories around Asia. The dealer organised the first Beneteau Cup Hong Kong in May, while a First Yacht 53 and Oceanis Yacht 54 are scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong in June.

Two units of the Sanlorenzo SD96 will soon arrive in Asia, with hulls heading for Hong Kong and Phuket. First seen at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2019, the SD96 joins a semi-displacement range that also includes the SD118 and SD126.

The upper deck has interior and outdoor areas

Zuccon International Studio, Sanlorenzo’s regular collaborator, designed the exterior of the SD96, while Sanlorenzo appointed acclaimed Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola to work on the interiors.

Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola developed the interiors

“Our starting point for this collaboration with Sanlorenzo was doubtlessly the sea, a great source of inspiration for the whole development of the concept and therefore the interior of the yacht,” Urquiola said. “The materials, shapes and colours evoke the marine world, creating a flowing and elegant space full of natural colours.”

One of the British builder’s newest models, a Targa 45 GT has been sold into Shanghai by regional dealer Simpson Marine.

The Targa 45 GT is one of Fairline’s newest models

Simpson Marine has sold a Fairline Targa 45 GT into Shanghai, China, where the boat is set to arrive in July. The model had its world premiere at Boot Dusseldorf last year and complements the Targa 45 Open, both acting as entry-level models to the British builder’s cruiser range.

The aft sunpad conceals a tender garage or storage area

Starting aft, the yacht has an aft-facing double sunpad, which can be raised to open a garage that can house a Williams Minijet 280 or can be used for storage. The foredeck also has a double sunpad.

The cockpit has a J-shaped sofa and flexible table

The cockpit has a three-sided sofa to port with an adjustable table, while there’s a wet bar to starboard. There are sliding doors to starboard, while to port an opening window can be raised upwards under the hardtop to complete the indoor-outdoor space.

The saloon’s C-shaped sofa faces an entertainment centre

The hardtop has an electric canvas roof that can open for ventilation and views. The saloon has a C-shaped sofa and table on an elevated platform to port, while on starboard side is an entertainment centre with storage and a twin-seat helm station.

The two-cabin version features a dinette opposite the galley

The lower deck offers two or three cabins. With the galley to port, the two-cabin version features a lower lounge with an L-shaped sofa and table to starboard.

The forward VIP can also be used as the owner’s suite

The full-beam, en-suite master cabin midships has the bed set to starboard and facing the port window, while the VIP cabin in the bow has scissor berths and access to the day head.
