The brokerage house recently closed seven superyacht transactions in an intense two-week period.

Burgess is celebrating a significant surge in sales, with the global brokerage house announcing the close of seven deals in a two-week period in May 2025. The transactions in this short period totalled €303.6 million, with an average asking price of about €43.4 million.

Jonathan Beckett, the Burgess CEO, stated: “We’re enormously proud of our collaborative team for seeing each of these transactions through from start to finish. Yet again, we have underscored the power of our global networks where knowledge, insights, data and contacts are shared seamlessly among our directly employed brokers.”

One, the 76m Feadship, was the biggest of the sales in the frenetic two weeks and had a last asking price of €172.5 million, representing more than half the value of the sales during this period. Other transactions included Alloy Yachts’ 56m sailing ketch Salvaje and the 56m Codecasa My Legacy, both transacted with Burgess representing the seller.

Burgess stated that another superyacht in the 50-60m range, built by a northern European shipyard, was confidentially sold by a Burgess broker in an off-market transaction. The seven transactions also included three sub-50m builds: the 45m Delta Marine Gran Finale, 38m Sodan and 33m Maria Theresa, a Custom Line 120’ and Navetta 33 respectively.

In the four weeks beforehand, Burgess had closed deals on two Damen Yachting vessels, representing the seller of the 80m explorer-style U-81 and bringing in the buyer of the Yacht Support 53 Five Oceans, which had been delivered to her original owner in 2024.

The recent sales boom made space for Burgess to welcome new listings in June including the 85m Lürssen Gigia – with an asking price of €169 million – and 60m Scott Free, asking €43.5 million. The largest vessel in Burgess’ sales fleet is currently the 123m Lürssen Golden Odyssey.

This year, Burgess is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of its Asia operation headed by Singapore-based Jean-Marc Poullet.

Described by her builders as “a milestone in superyacht evolution”, they further assert: “Evolution is not just about change; it is about perfecting what defines us. The Amels 80 is the result of deep-rooted expertise, blending time-honoured traditions with modern innovation”.

Exterior design of both the Amels 60 and Amels 80 is by one of the world’s most sought-after stylists, Norwegian Espen Øino, who calls the Amels 80 “a significant step forward in yacht design. It is a harmonious blend of form and function, designed to offer an exceptional experience on the water with refined elegance”.

Fittingly this first sale was handled by Burgess, an industry leader since the 1970s, just six months after introduction of the new design in 2022. Note that after her launch and sea trials, delivery is taking place in July 2025, a remarkable build period for an 80m vessel, made possible by the Amels Limited Editions concept.

Interiors are by Amels and internationally-known Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design. Says their Paul Costerus: “This is the first collaboration between Sinot and Amels. The project provided us with the opportunity to develop something truly unique. You will feel at home from the moment you step on board.”

Essentially the Amels 80 offers a sundeck, beach club, 6.5m swimming pool, owner’s deck, seven suites, helipad, tenders and hybrid propulsion.

The latter, notes Amels parent Damen Yachting, “enables reduced emissions, quieter operations and greater cruising efficiency. This is yachting with a conscience, combining the best of proven technology and forward-looking innovations that will endure into the future”.

The beach club comes with spa, sauna, gym, hammam and massage room, underscoring a focus on wellness and relaxation. Supported by a crew of 21, the vessel has a gross tonnage of 2,175GT, and “has been built to venture across oceans, inspire generations and withstand the tests of time”.

In Yacht Style’s annual feature Top 100 Superyachts of Indo-Asia-Pacific, Amels Limited Editions and Amels Full Custom Yachts, together with Damen Yachting’s luxury Xplorer yachts and Yacht Support vessels, have been the most prolific for the last three editions, indicating a propensity for varied-but-safe voyaging in these far flung waters.

So far, four Amels 80s have been sold, and two more will be delivered in 2026. Seven Amels 60s have also been purchased since the new wave of Øino designs were released, the last one also due for delivery this year. Other recent launches and deliveries include a large refit just announced, an Xplorer 60 and a Yacht Support 53.

Damen Yachting and Amels are located at Vlissingen, on the North Sea Coast near the Dutch-Belgian border.

The Amels Limited Editions idea was launched at Monaco in 2005. In the construction of superyachts, two years is needed for naval architecture, exterior design, hull construction and all the fittings and fixtures, cables and conduits, that go into the finished product. Then custom features take another two years.

What if, speculated the Amels people, a client could buy his or her superyacht with only two years to go? Damen Shipping, an international maritime conglomerate which owns both Damen Yachting and Amels, has annual revenues of about US$2.5 billion, and could finance such construction.

This used to be called “building on spec”, but now a whole new contractual premise was possible, in which the owner came in at the custom stage, waited only half as long for delivery, and enjoyed savings through sharing some design and build costs with others.

Briton Tim Heywood was chosen as the exterior designer, and Laura Sessa did many of the interiors, although owners could employ whoever they wanted, and did so. A few also asked Heywood to tweak his exteriors here and there, so that although technically identical, various Amels Limited Editions of the same LOA have noticeably different profiles.

LOAs ranged from 177-272ft, or 54-83m, with nearly a dozen lengths in between. Most popular was the 55m or 180ft model, of which an astonishing 25 were sold. Many of them have plied Asia-Pacific waters. Amels Limited Editions was obviously a runaway success.

Although the focus has now shifted to the Øino-designed Amels 60 and Amels 80, Damen Yachting Marketing Director Sarah Flavell tells us that Heywood Amels 200s or 220s, for example, can still be built, but not within the Limited Editions format, which has moved on.

Rose Damen, Managing Director of Damen Yachting, sums up: “With the launch of the first Amels 80, we have reached another landmark achievement in the history of Amels. I would like to thank our client and the team at Burgess for entrusting us with this very special build. We are honoured and excited to see the final phase through to delivery.”

Cantieri di Pisa begins 40m build

Antonio Luxardo has custom designed a 40m superyacht now in build at the Pisa-based shipyard.

Cantieri di Pisa (click for Interview) has commenced construction on a new 40m superyacht, marking the beginning of the build with a traditional ‘coin ceremony’ during the laying of the keel. A superstition harking back to ancient times, the ritual of placing coins under the keel when construction work first begins is meant to symbolise prosperity for the project.

The fully custom motoryacht, described by the yard as “ideal for cruising anywhere in the world”, has been sold to a French owner.

Antonio Luxardo – head designer at Cantieri di Pisa and founder of Optima Design – has penned the lines of the yacht, and collaborated on the engineering with Francesco Samarelli of SaMaRe Design. The exterior recalls distinctive features seen on other Cantieri di Pisa projects such as sleek lines, monochromatic grilles and a black strip running the length of the steel hull.

The superstructure will be made from aluminium and advanced composite materials, which have been developed using the shipyard’s signature vacuum technology for a lower weight and centre of gravity to help reduce fuel consumption and improve propulsion efficiency.

Powered by twin 1,550hp MAN V12 engines, the yacht will offer a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising range of 2,000nm. She will be built to Bureau Veritas Charter class certification.

Spread over four decks, the yacht will have a total volume of just under 500GT. Accommodation includes an owner’s suite with private terrace forward on the main deck, plus a VIP and four more guest cabins on the lower deck. Crew accommodation includes the captain’s cabin by the wheelhouse, first officer’s cabin on the bridge deck and four crew cabins on the lower deck.

Guests can socialise in saloons on both the main and bridge decks, both outfitted with loose furniture. Outdoors, sun loungers and sunbeds, as well as a generous jacuzzi in the aft cockpit, offer additional areas for relaxation. A midships garage can store a 6.6m tender and water toys including jet-skis.

When launched, the 40m superyacht will join a fleet of more than 700 yachts built by Cantieri di Pisa between 1945 and 2012, before the historic shipyard was acquired by Enrico Gennasio in 2021 and started a prolific new chapter.

Benetti completed the dramatic slipway launch of Fortitude¹, the latest unit in its Class 44M line, at its Viareggio shipyard. Fortitude¹ is the owner’s second Benetti superyacht and delivery is expected later this summer following the completion of final outfitting.

Daniela Petrozzi, Benetti’s Sales Director, said: “The launch of Fortitude¹ is the perfect example of our shipyard’s ability to interpret and translate the owners’ dream into tangible projects, delivering a Benetti that, in every detail, is an extension of their personality.

“Benetti is synonymous with quality, heritage and innovation, and that is why the owner has chosen us once again. The trust that clients place in us is a great source of pride.”

Designed inside and out by Cassetta Yacht Designers, the Class 44M is the largest fibreglass yacht produced by Benetti. The model offers a cruising range of 4,100nm at 11 knots and can host up to 10 guests in five cabins, as well as five cabins for nine crew.

A standout feature on the Class 44M is the 102sqm sundeck, which features a shaded hardtop. Fortitude¹ has also been designed with some custom elements specifically for her owner, including a large, tailor-made sunpad on the upper deck. These touches reflect the owner’s overall desire of “experiencing the sea” while on board, according to the yard.

This vision is also conveyed through the generous use of glass surfaces throughout the design, allowing natural light to fill the entertaining areas on the main deck and in the panoramic skylounge.

Numarine recently launched the 18th unit of its 37XP and the 27th hull of its 26XP explorer-style motoryachts. Both models feature exterior and interior design by Can Yalman, and naval architecture by Umberto Tagliavini, who each have long-standing relationships with the Turkish builder.

Ömer Malaz, Numarine’s Chairman, said: “The XP Series cements its position as one of the most successful, sought-after ranges in the superyacht industry. We offer an extensive lineup of explorers from 22-47m to suit every taste and preference. Our yachts stand out for their stylish design, spacious and light-filled interiors, ample tender storage, performance, noise reduction and more.”

The steel-hulled 37XP – the brand’s 122ft flagship until the upcoming 40MXP – offers a cruising range of 6,000nm at 10 knots and has a top speed of 14 knots. The 362GT superyacht can fit up to seven cabins and features light-filled, modern interiors complemented by ample outdoor spaces.

Highlights include a wide-body flybridge offering 83sqm of al fresco entertaining space and a beach club with a swim platform and lounge. On the upper deck, an aft room that can be configured as the master suite has direct access to the aft outdoor terrace, which can carry a 9m tender and otherwise be used for entertaining or sunbathing.

The 26XP ‘pocket explorer’ is one of Numarine’s most compact models. Characterised by a modern profile with angular windows and a vertical bow, the 26XP is designed to allow owners to explore more secluded destinations due to a shallow draft, while still offering an extended cruising range of 3,000nm at eight knots.

Interiors feature a master suite midships complete with a private study and lounge, as well as two VIPs and one twin cabin. The 70sqm flybridge offers an outdoor entertaining area and an aft sunlounge. For the environmentally-conscious owner, the 26XP can be outfitted with solar panels and lithium batteries.

Sanlorenzo’s first 50Steel, the 164ft Almax, was the biggest vessel at this year’s Venice Boat Show, with the AB 100 from Next Yacht Group also among superyachts in a 300-boat display within the Arsenale.

Ferretti Group staged the world premieres of the Ferretti Yachts 940 and Pershing GTX70 in a seven-boat line-up that included a Pershing 8X (84ft), wallywhy100 (70ft), Riva’s 68’ Diable and Dolceriva (48ft), plus an Itama 45RS.

Azimut displayed a Fly 68, Fly 53 and Magellano 66, Pardo exhibited its flagship GT75, Astondoa showed an As8 (83ft) along with its 677 Coupe and 377 Coupe cruisers, while a Sunreef 80 catamaran was the largest sailing yacht on display.

Groupe Beneteau brands including Beneteau, Lagoon and Jeanneau had strong displays at the five-day event, as did the likes of Bavaria, Solaris and Grand Soleil.

X Shore was among electric boat exhibitors, while Frauscher’s 850 Fantom Air and the Dhamma Blue, powered by zero-carbon hydrogen, were among eco-friendly yachts at the show, which hosted the fifth edition of the E-Regatta, organised by Assonautica.

The event again attracted about 30,000 visitors, which organiser Vela said included a “notable rise in international attendance”, citing visitors from Germany, UK, France, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Switzerland, Netherlands and Poland, as well as the US.

Fabrizio D’Oria, COO of Vela and the Venice Boat Show, said: “The active participation of exhibitors, sponsors and partners is key to making the Venice Boat Show not just a display but a dynamic hub for business and growth. The 2025 edition showed a marked improvement in quality, both in terms of the audience and the presence of industry leaders.

“Top brands such as Azimut, Sanlorenzo, Ferretti Group and Groupe Beneteau attended with their CEOs, underscoring the show’s importance as a space for high-level networking and B2B engagement.

“Sea trials drew strong interest, highlighting the professional and specialised nature of the audience. The public’s participation in scheduled events was also exceptional, confirming the show’s deep ties to Venice’s maritime heritage.”

FLYING START

The event is promoted by the City of Venice and organised in collaboration with the Italian Navy – and Venice’s maritime and military heritage was to the fore during the opening ceremony, one of the most spectacular in the yachting industry.

A flyover by the Frecce Tricolori – the Italian Air Force’s aerobatic demonstration team – and a dramatic splashdown by Navy raiders, descending from helicopters into the Arsenale’s waters, were highlights of the spectacle.

Ignazio La Russa, President of the Senate, was the special guest at a ceremony that also included Luigi Brugnaro, the Mayor of Venice; Luca Zaia, President of the Veneto region; Roberto Dattola, Chief Inspector Admiral of the Italian Navy; and Matteo Zoppas, President of ICE Agency, the show’s international promoter.

After the event, Mayor Brugnaro stated: “The Venice Boat Show has once again proven to be a key event for the maritime industry and a unique platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration on nautical issues. With its centuries-old connection to water and seafaring, Venice is the ideal place to champion innovation, sustainability and tradition.

“Despite recent global uncertainties affecting the market, shipyards reported a notable rise in sales during the show, a clear sign of recovery and renewed energy in the sector. The event leaves behind a valuable legacy of relationships, ideas and vision, which must be nurtured with responsibility and continuity.”

Since its inception, the show has aimed to become a key meeting point for the industry and a key promoter of the ‘Eastern Mediterranean’ or Upper Adriatic regions, as Mayor Brugnaro explained.

“Our historical trade routes reached Istanbul and beyond, even Odessa. That is our reference point: to become the gravitational centre for all maritime activities across the Adriatic, Ionian and Central-Eastern European regions. A water gateway between the West and East of the Mediterranean, drawing in shipyards, operators and enthusiasts from the Balkans, Middle East and Asia.”

PACKED CALENDAR

As well as the opening ceremony and E-Regatta, the show had a packed calendar of events. The Nastro Rosa Tour, a mixed-crew sailing event, departed from Venice for the first time, heading toward Genoa. Among the participants were competitors from the Regatta of Nations and the Italian Microclass Championship, Luca Rosetti and his Maccaferri Futura project, Dan Lenard’s Vela Code initiative, and Raymarine ambassador Giancarlo Pedote.

MUVE (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia) launched ‘MUVE Yacht Projects 2025’, a university competition focused on sustainable navigation. Students from the University of Trieste, Polytechnic University of Milan and La Spezia’s Promostudi Campus submitted innovative, energy-efficient and environmentally conscious boat designs. Five standout projects were selected from each institution.

The Compagnia della Vela unveiled the schedule for Veleziana Sailing Week, and the Yacht Club Venezia presented the Venice Hospitality Challenge, with both events taking place in October. The show also hosted the conclusion of the 72nd Raid Pavia Venezia, with the awards ceremony – honouring record-setting winner Guido Cappellini – marking the final event of the five-day show.

Offering a busy calendar of conferences, workshops, regattas, presentations and on-water trials, the Venice Boat Show again entertained a diverse and engaged audience, with organisers announcing over 3 million views on the show’s official media channels.

“This edition confirms Venice as an increasingly important hub for global boating,” said Alberto Bozzo, Vela’s Director of Market Development and Sales, and the show’s Commercial Director.

“The commercial enthusiasm of shipyards and operators from countries like Croatia, Poland, Germany, Estonia, the Netherlands, Belgium and Hungary demonstrates our appeal and ability to drive investment and innovation. The Venice Boat Show is now a strategic platform for the future of the maritime industry.”

The seventh edition of the Venice Boat Show will be held from Wednesday-Sunday, May 27-31, 2026.

A project of Sanlorenzo Arts, the restored and reimagined 1940s mansion serves as the Italian shipyard’s ‘cultural hub’.

Casa Sanlorenzo, a creative hub dedicated to Sanlorenzo’s artistic and cultural initiatives, has ‘launched’ in Venice. The opening of the restored building – a Sanlorenzo Arts project – was timed to host events during the first Venice Climate Week (June 3-8) and honour the lagoon city’s hosting of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition (May 10-November 23).

During Venice Climate Week, Casa Sanlorenzo hosted three days of ‘Sanlorenzo Talks’, a series of meetings and conversations dedicated to the themes of ecological transition and sustainable innovation, and including leaders from the science, culture and industry sectors.

Facing the Basilica Santa Maria della Salute, Casa Sanlorenzo is a converted 1940s mansion with 1,000sqm of indoor space and a 600sqm outdoor area, and was restored by architect Piero Lissoni – Sanlorenzo’s Art Director – and the Lissoni & Partners studio.

The Italian shipyard created Casa Sanlorenzo “because a brand like Sanlorenzo, a worldwide leader in luxury yachting, can no longer limit itself to producing excellent products but must take on an active cultural role”. The venue houses a private apartment plus indoor and outdoor space for exhibitions, shows and Sanlorenzo’s contemporary art collection.

Massimo Perotti, Sanlorenzo’s Executive Chairman, said: “Our aim with Casa Sanlorenzo is to offer a reference point for initiatives linked to the world of Sanlorenzo Arts, an entity conceived with the goal of celebrating and supporting the union between art, design and culture, where innovation and creativity can flourish without limits.

“Casa Sanlorenzo becomes a place where one enters to stop, reflect and share. A space of research, where art does not simply adorn but rather interrogates. Where design does not impress, but guides. Where beauty is never for its own sake but the bearer of ethics.

“In an increasingly virtual world, we wanted to invest in presence, in meaningful encounters, and in shared experiences. Because we believe that authenticity requires substance, time and human connection. And Venice is the perfect place for this project.”

The restoration honoured the building’s history, so brick facades were enhanced and some original elements, such as part of the floors, were preserved. Where restoration wasn’t possible, “spaces were reinterpreted with a contemporary architectural language that enhances the exhibition function, creating a flexible and welcoming environment”, Sanlorenzo stated.

Concrete floors alternate with Palladian and Portoro marble, while white walls highlight the artwork on display. An adaptive lighting system allows light to be modulated according to exhibition needs, enhancing the visitor experience, while a new glass-and-steel staircase is among indoor highlights.

Outside, a bridge connecting Casa Sanlorenzo to the surrounding area is another key element of the restoration. Also designed by Lissoni & Partners, the contemporary structure was inspired by the pre-existing one to maintain a strong connection to Venetian history.

Piero Lissoni said: “I believe the opportunity to build a bridge in Venice for Sanlorenzo Arts is more unique than rare. The bridge is, in fact, an incredibly complex architectural staircase, and to me, it also embodies a range of other meanings.

“Besides connecting two different points, the bridge connects different worlds. It is no coincidence that the expressions ‘creating cultural bridges’ and ‘making human bridges’ are used. This bridge for me is not simply a vehicle to transport people but a cultural bridge, an ideal bridge.”

Casa Sanlorenzo, Venice, Venice Climate Week, Piero Lissoni, Massimo Perotti, International Architecture Exhibition

Made entirely of prefabricated metal and already assembled, the bridge features a surface of Istrian stone, typical of the city, and a wooden handrail crafted to resemble an oar, to highlight the connection with the water.

Its ‘humpback’ shape is reminiscent of medieval bridges, while the metal arch expresses a simple, linear aesthetic. Technologically advanced, the bridge uses calendering for the metal part, with steps in classical Venetian masegni made of Istrian stone and treated to prevent slipping. The metal has been protected against local weathering elements while maintaining a refined aesthetic.

The wallywhy150 made its Asia debut in Singapore in April 2025

Wally is a yachting brand known for doing things differently. From the avant-garde wallytender to its high-performance Wally class of sailing yachts, the builder that’s part of the Ferretti Group made its name in breaking moulds and re-inventing classics. So, it’s no surprise that when Wally waded into the waters of larger motoryachts, it would present models that make people stop and stare.

Following on the heels of the wallywhy200, Wally unleashed its 23.99m wallywhy150. Recently making her Asia debut at the Singapore Yachting Festival in April, the first wallywhy150 is now plying Asian waters.

“The wallywhy150 has been very well received in Asia, as clients appreciate the way this model redefines interior volume and exterior spaces,” said Andrew Pitchford, Sales Director of Ferretti Group Asia Pacific. “The unique wraparound glazing in the high bow gives a 270-degree panoramic view of the sea from the full-beam owner’s cabin, dining or lounge area, depending on the configuration.”

Wraparound glazing in the high bow gives the forward room a 270-degree panoramic view

With in-house exterior design by Wally, naval architecture by Ferretti Engineering Group and interior design by Vallicelli Design Studio, the wallywhy150 was developed at the same time as the wallywhy200.

The team at Wally say that the brief for the yacht’s design was clear: create a sub-24m yacht that retained the iconic Wally DNA, delivering maximum liveability, usability and connection to the sea, all enveloped in a bold, futuristic package. It needed to feel like a superyacht in terms of volume and presence, offer seamless indoor-outdoor flow, and challenge conventions in both form and function – and be seaworthy and efficient.

The new offering was designed to distil the best of her big sister in a slightly smaller edition. Yet within her 150GT of volume, the wallywhy150 still packs in quite a lot, pushing the boundaries of what a sub-24m yacht can do. Key to this is the yacht’s full-beam main deck design.

Wally, wallywhy150, Ferretti Group, Luca Bassani, Andrea Vallicelli, Vallicelli Design Studio, Andrew Pitchford, Singapore Yachting Festival

The wide-body design allows for an extremely spacious interior

“For the wallywhy range, internal volume is a crucial factor,” says Andrea Vallicelli, of the interior design studio. “To achieve this, a wide-body design was adopted, allowing for an extremely spacious saloon and owner’s cabin on the main deck, while still accommodating three cabins on the lower deck.”

A wraparound swath of glazing runs from the cockpit and around the entirety of the main deck, including across the front of the bow. This not only gives the wallywhy150 a distinct look on the outside, but, coupled with the wide-body layout, it also changes the way the yacht is lived in inside.

The standard layout features the master suite forward on the main deck, while the Asia-Pacific layout is designed with an airy saloon in this space, and a lower-deck master cabin. The forward room offers a panoramic view through the wraparound windows. Positioning the his-and-hers en-suite behind the bedroom bulkhead means not a centimetre of sightline is sacrificed.

Aft view of the split-level saloon

“The interior was centred around preserving key features from her larger sibling, the wallywhy200, such as the iconic owner’s cabin at the bow, while introducing new design elements,” Vallicelli said. “One notable innovation was the lowered cockpit area, situated close to the sea, which necessitated a 75cm split level in the saloon to provide direct access to the sea without stairs.”

Views are maximised in the main saloon as well. Instead of a typical saloon layout with the sofas facing inwards, the sofa is specifically positioned to face aft, looking out over the lowered cockpit and the sea beyond. It’s a subtle change from the typical superyacht layout and makes a huge difference. When it’s time for a movie night, a television emerges from a low-slung sideboard that straddles the space between the sofa and cockpit.

“The saloon, which is split at the deck level, is unified at the ceiling level by a wave-shaped connection between the two heights,” Vallicelli said. “This design element not only serves a formal purpose but also allows the aft section of the saloon to reach a maximum height of 2.75m, enhancing the sense of volume upon entering the boat.”

The main deck living spaces can also be swapped around to best suit the owner. Multiple layouts were developed to cater to different markets while preserving the internal structure as much as possible. The ‘why’ in wallywhy stands for ‘Wally Hybrid Yacht’, but the hybrid refers not to the yacht’s propulsion system but to her flexible layouts and usage.

“Similar to the wallywhy200, the front cabin can be converted into a dining area to cater to the Asian market, resulting in a three-cabin layout,” Vallicelli explained. “Overall, the design prioritises simplicity of use and potential reconfiguration, with a strong emphasis on visibility and access to the exterior landscape and the sea.”

An uninterrupted flow from the saloon to aft deck enhances indoor-outdoor living. And when you’re down at near sea level on the expansive aft terrace, the wallywhy150 really shines.

The terrace-on-the sea concept is ingrained in Wally’s DNA

Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and Chief Designer, said: “The terrace-on-the sea is as ingrained in Wally’s DNA as carbon-fibre. It was first introduced aboard Tiketitan, which had a main saloon below deck overlooking the open transom offering unique access to the sea.

“In 2012, the terrace-on-sea concept was reinterpreted for the first wallyace, which featured an aft owner’s suite and VIP cabin opening onto the terrace-on-the-sea. It’s something that has been there from the beginning – and was then carried over to the wallypower range – and it’s one of the key differentiators Wally has versus other boats, which is the feeling of connection with the sea.”

Also in keeping with the Wally family is the characteristic exterior styling. The wallywhy150’s angular pilothouse design is a direct reference to the famed geometric windscreen of the original wallypower118. While the design is reminiscent of previous Wallys, it’s a functional choice as well.

The pilothouse’s angular design is due to the T-top over the flybridge

“Wally design always follows function, so the pilothouse’s angular design is a consequence of the T-top [over the flybridge] and is almost a happy coincidence,” Bassani said. “But when you use the same kind of shapes you end up with the same kind of solutions, and that’s also why we have chosen a similar colour to the 118. It’s a little bit of an homage to that iconic design.”

Carbon-fibre was used in the upper structures to reduce weight and lower the centre of gravity, enhancing stability and performance.

An evolution of the wallywhy200 design, the wallywhy150 has a full-length flybridge, providing ample exterior space up top, which is mostly shaded by the T-top, and more shade structures can be added as needed. The sail-fabric T-top provides lightweight sun protection while preserving visibility.

Of course, fitting everything into the smaller wallywhy150 created design challenges that the Wally and Ferretti Group team had to solve creatively. One challenge was how to integrate the forward mooring system in the yacht’s more compact layout. To solve this, the forward mooring gear was relocated to the upper deck – an unconventional but efficient solution.

“To preserve the bow cabin on this sub-24m boat, we had to integrate the anchor chains into the interior design,” Vallicelli said. “Rather than concealing them behind a cover, we transformed this engineering feature into a decorative element.

“The two oval columns visible from the bed serve as the minimum chain net-space with sound insulation thickness. Structurally reinforced, these columns enabled us to increase window visibility by removing an additional mullion on the glass.”

The hull of the wallywhy150 was developed by the Ferretti Group Engineering Department using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate hydrodynamic performance.

Optimised for efficiency and speed, the wallywhy150 offers a range of 370 nautical miles at an 18-knot cruising speed, allowing for amiable coastal cruising, and the yacht tops out at 23 knots with the standard-fitted triple Volvo Penta IPS1350 engines. The IPS system allows for ease of manoeuvrability and responsiveness, whether cruising or docking.

With nimble handling, the design DNA of a Wally, a wide-body build for spacious interiors, and a layout that’s designed to make the most of the views outside, the wallywhy150 will have you asking, why not?

The 35.3m motoryacht Lalabe has officially been launched at the Van der Valk shipyard in Waalwijk in southern Netherlands. Built under the name of Project Samba, the all-aluminium tri-deck features naval architecture by Dutch studios Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects.

Van Der Valk stated that Lalabe’s platform is based on the naval architecture and core engineering of the 34m Lady Lene, but has been “reimagined with a fast displacement hull capable of 17 knots from twin MAN engines”.

Guido de Groot created fully customised exterior and interior designs for the 299GT Lalabe, with the Dutch designer commenting that it was “a pleasure to work with clients so invested in their yacht on a personal level”. Van der Valk describes the yacht’s profile, complete with a round bilged hull, as a modern take on classic explorer lines while concealing a “surprisingly voluminous interior”.

Designed for a multi-generational family, the main entertaining areas have been outfitted with elements inspired by “waterside residential living”. This includes a generous aft cockpit and beach club area complete with outdoor dining, lounge areas and a swim platform offering easy access to the water. Spa facilities encompass a sauna and steam room.

Indoors, a large central staircase connects all three decks. Up to 10 guests can be accommodated in five cabins comprising a master suite with a private office and two walk-in wardrobes, two VIPs on the lower deck and two twin guest cabins.

A unique interior feature is the spacious galley with ample workspaces and an island counter, reflecting the owner’s love for cooking.

Yoeri Bijker, Van der Valk’s Commercial Director, stated: “Lalabe encapsulates everything that Van der Valk stands for – superb engineering, custom design, Dutch quality and bespoke construction combining to create a client’s perfect yacht.

“To see the project hit the water for the first time is an exciting moment and we know she will be a very happy home away from home for her owners and their family.”

Lalabe is next scheduled to undertake sea trials and complete final outfitting before being delivered to her owners this summer. She is expected to make her world debut at the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival, which will be held from September 9-14.
