Monaco Yacht Show organisers discuss ongoing revamp

SHARE

Monaco Yacht Show organisers have announced several changes to the world’s leading superyacht show, as part of a three-year revamp ‘to promote superyachting among a new generation of clients’. Johan Pizzardini, Head of Communications & Media, explains what visitors can expect at Port Hercule from September 28-October 1.

What was the feedback from visitors and exhibitors about the changes at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show?

We received very positive feedback from the attendees. First, because last year’s edition was the first major physical yachting event after the pandemic, there was a real thirst for going back to real socialisation and “sailing out of the Covid doldrums”.

More importantly, the revamped format was more tailored to the different profiles of attendees. Whether you wanted to charter or purchase a yacht, meet your business peers or discover the latest trends and technologies in the industry, the right visitor could easily meet the right exhibitor.

It was still difficult to travel from Asia last September, so for many visitors from the region attending this time, it will be their first Monaco Yacht Show for at least three years. What changes should visitors be aware of?

The new format of the show focuses on the visit experience for superyacht customers. If you intend to charter, purchase or build a yacht, you can easily discuss with experts on the Dockside area, where there’s an exhibition of superyachts, tenders, designers and services directly linked to a yacht project.

Monaco Yacht Show, Port Hercule, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht

Then, you can meet up with the leading yacht designers at the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub and be informed of the current and forthcoming sustainable solutions in yachting at the brand-new Sustainability Hub. Visitors will also discover a whole area dedicated to superyacht lifestyle and fun with fancy water toys, luxury cars, helicopters or tenders.

It’s worth noting that day one is only accessible on invitation. If you intend to visit the show and buy a yacht, you can contact us to receive a Sapphire Experience, the show’s official VIP visit programme.

Can you explain the Sapphire Experience and who’s eligible for it.

The Sapphire Experience is the show’s official VIP visit programme. We launched it six years ago to offer new clients a bespoke visit experience into the yachting world. We’ve developed a dedicated concierge service to directly organise yacht visits together with the exhibitors, along with a range of other VIP activities and services throughout the show.

Monaco Yacht Show, Port Hercule, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht

The Sapphire Experience is reserved for current and future charter clients or owners. Our services check the eligibility of the client beforehand, so we guarantee only serious VIP visitors meet the yacht exhibitors. We must admit, we refuse lots of requests!

What are the new themed exhibition areas and where are they located?

Still with the perspective of enhancing the visit experience of the attendees, the exhibition areas are categorised according to the interests of the visitor profiles. Superyacht end-user clients mainly interested in a yacht project will find all activities directly linked to their next charter or purchase in the Dockside area. This area showcases superyachts and tenders, and all services directly related to the world of yachting.

This year, the Sailing Yacht Area is still on Quai l’Hirondelle in front of Yacht Club de Monaco, but on the protected ‘inner’ side of the dock, so the port structure will help protect the yachts from windy conditions.

Monaco Yacht Show, Port Hercule, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht

The tents on the other docks are mainly focused on activities that interest the representatives of clients or professional visitors. On the west side of Port Hercule, the Parvis Piscine tent is dedicated to yacht interior design and decoration companies, the Upper Deck Lounge within Parvis Piscine displays luxury products and services.

On the south side, Quai Antoine 1er features tenders, water toys, luxury cars and motorbikes, the Darse Sud tent contains equipment manufacturers and yachting services, while the Quai Albert 1er tent contains yacht-related equipment, maintenance and service companies.

Why has the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub doubled in size for 2022 and what can visitors expect this year?

Designers are the rock stars of yachting! Their creative mindset, combined with owners’ ideas, defines the future of yachting. When we launched the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub last year, we wanted to offer a playground for yacht designers and yachtsmen.

Monaco Yacht Show, Port Hercule, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht

The area has doubled in size for 2022 because we relocated the designers of the Designer Gallery and created a bigger conference room upstairs. Visitors can meet directly with the designers on their stands and attend about 20 live presentations by designers over the show’s four days.

What led to the addition of a Sustainability Hub for this year’s show?

The Monaco Yacht Show started raising awareness among the yachting community about marine issues when we joined the Carbon Neutral programme in 2005. In 2010, the show joined the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation to support eco-friendly projects. Newcomers to yachting may not know that the industry has been researching and developing eco-friendly solutions for over a decade.

Our role, as one of the industry’s major voices with a share of social responsibility, is to promote the eco-responsible aspect of yachting to the new generation of yacht customers, so the Sustainability Hub was a logical next step for the Monaco Yacht Show.

Monaco Yacht Show, Port Hercule, Johan Pizzardini, superyacht

Visitors will have the chance to talk to representatives of reputable or new start-up companies that specialise in technological solutions and eco-friendly concepts aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of superyachts.

Note: Since this interview, which appeared in Issue 66, Monaco Yacht Show organisers have also announced the addition of an Adventure Hub (click here for article).

The Austrian-owned builder of solar-electric catamarans will stage the world premiere of the Silent 60 and Silent Tender 400 at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Silent-Yachts has confirmed that it will stage the boat show debut of the Silent 60 at the Cannes Yachting Festival, which will also mark the world premiere of the Silent Tender 400.

Several units of the Silent 60 have been launched, with the first unit narrowly missing last year’s Cannes show. The unit on display this year is fitted with a kite wing, a light, compact, easy-to-use system that generates up to 10 times more power per square metre than a conventional sail, according to Silent-Yachts.

Silent-Yachts, Silent 60, Silent Tender 400, Cannes Yachting Festival, Michael KöhlerOperating the kite wing

Launched from a fold-away mast structure on the foredeck, the kite wing can pull the 30-tonne Silent 60 with a speed of 4-5 knots and reduces the consumption of the e-motors, so extending the range. If a fishing line gets entangled in the propellers, for example, the kite can also serve as reserve propulsion, enabling the boat to get to a protected place where the rope can be cut and the prop set free.

The kite wing backs up the Silent 60’s impressive green credentials. The solar powered catamaran carries 42 solar panels for 17kWp of solar energy to drive two electric motors, each up to 340kw.

Silent-Yachts, Silent 60, Silent Tender 400, Cannes Yachting Festival, Michael KöhlerThe kite wing can pull the Silent 60 at 4-5 knots

With a battery capacity of up to 286kWh, the yacht can cruise efficiently with zero emissions solely on solar power for up to 100nm a day for weeks. Featuring a new, high-performance hull form with a longer waterline and reverse bow, the yacht has a cruising speed of 6-8 knots, but can reach up to 20 knots.

Guest accommodation comprises four guest cabins on the lower deck including a spacious master suite, but other layout solutions are available. There are numerous social areas on board including an airy main saloon, aft cockpit, flybridge and cosy bow area. The yacht also has high headroom throughout, up to 2.32m in the saloon.

Silent-Yachts, Silent 60, Silent Tender 400, Cannes Yachting Festival, Michael KöhlerThe Silent Tender 400

The first Silent Tender will also be on display in Cannes. The ST400 model is 4m long and built of carbon-fibre. It can be lifted out of the water and stored on the hydraulic stern platform of the Silent 60 and then recharged with solar energy produced by the Silent yacht.

It’s available with two different electric drivetrains. Option one is an electric jet drive. Alternatively, the ST400 can also be equipped with a conventional electric outboard engine with up to 30kW. Both systems enable a top speed of above 20 knots. A larger Silent Tender is already being planned.

Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent-Yachts, said: “I’m immensely proud of what Silent-Yachts has achieved over the years and the first Silent Tender 400 is just the latest innovation in our sustainability journey.

“After starting with research into solar yacht technology, we have evolved and expanded both our product lines and production space. But we remain true to our roots of harnessing new technology and clean energy to promote sustainability.”

The first wallywind 110 is under construction, while 130ft and 150ft models are also part of the new collection.

Wally has unveiled the new wallywind series of sailing boats, which range from 110ft to 150ft and “aim to completely redefine the possibilities for owners interested in blistering performance allied to long-range cruising comfort”, according to the Ferretti Group yard.

Building has begun on the first unit of the wallywind110, which is scheduled to be launched in May 2024. The project reunites Wally with naval architecture by Judel/Vrolijk & Co and will sport a full carbon hull along with the builder’s simplified sail-handling system.

Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s Managing Director, said: “The wallywind110 is the equivalent of the Grand Touring car in the automotive world. It is a very powerful yet smooth long-distance cruising machine, but one that could become a serious challenger in a race.

“The boat is ideal for an experienced sailor, maybe someone who has had boats in the 60-80ft range and is now willing to make the jump to the 100ft size range to get the extra comforts.”

Wally, wallywind, 110, 130, 150, Luca Bassani, Stefano De Vivo, Judel/Vrolijk & Co, carbon, carbon-fibreSocial cockpit

Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and Chief Designer, said: “The 110 is a true hybrid because it offers the volumes and comforts of a deckhouse yacht, but with a flush deck that offers the spirit and the performance of a racing boat.

“The raised bulwarks disguise the fact this is a raised saloon yacht, with the engine room beneath the floor. That means all the advantages of the layout, without the compromised aesthetics.”

Wally, wallywind, 110, 130, 150, Luca Bassani, Stefano De Vivo, Judel/Vrolijk & Co, carbon, carbon-fibrePerformance deck layout

Besides the full carbon lay-up, there is a high-performance carbon rig and the choice of three keel types: a fixed 4.5m keel, a 3.95-6.1m telescopic keel or a high-tech 4.5-6.8m lifting keel. The boat has a 40 per cent ballast to weight ratio.

Other technical highlights include the use of lightweight lithium-ion batteries and auxiliary equipment, multiple high-pressure hydraulic pumps for redundancy, and a low-profile twin rudder set-up. The wallywind110 also features Wally’s underwater anchoring system and Magic Trim hydraulic system for the main and jib sheets.

Wally, wallywind, 110, 130, 150, Luca Bassani, Stefano De Vivo, Judel/Vrolijk & Co, carbon, carbon-fibreCruising deck layout

The huge 80sqm cockpit is on a single level and fills the full beam of the boat, up to the deep, safe bulwark – there is no coaming. The twin carbon wheels and the crew companionway are fixed; otherwise, the layout is completely customisable, with seating and dining for up to 15 people among options.

The removable deck furniture harks back to the heyday of big yacht racing. Every seat, sunbed, lounger and table can be removed and kept ashore to ready the wallywind110 for racing.

Wally, wallywind, 110, 130, 150, Luca Bassani, Stefano De Vivo, Judel/Vrolijk & Co, carbon, carbon-fibreThe main saloon

There’s a large tender compartment beneath the deck, capable of housing a boat up to 4m long. This keeps the transom clear for swimmers, where a hydraulic bathing ladder can completely retract into the hull.

With the engine room tucked away below the saloon, the interior offers an open-plan space that combines dining, lounging and even working. A single skylight runs the full length of the low-profile coachroof, while hatches and hull windows combine offer further natural light and views.

Wally, wallywind, 110, 130, 150, Luca Bassani, Stefano De Vivo, Judel/Vrolijk & Co, carbon, carbon-fibreAft view of the saloon

Numerous layouts are possible for the owner’s cabin forward including walk-in wardrobes, separate his and hers bathrooms and relaxed seating. There are up to three further guest cabins, plus two more for crew and a further captain’s cabin. The owner can choose the finish, with Wally proposing a sporty whitewashed wooden interior with lots of carbon detailing.

The wallywind130 is suited to an owner with experience of boats around the 100ft mark, but who wants a little more space. It has a deckhouse offering a true raised saloon area that spans the divide between indoors and out.

Wally, wallywind, 110, 130, 150, Luca Bassani, Stefano De Vivo, Judel/Vrolijk & Co, carbon, carbon-fibrePotential office or studio

The wallywind150 is in full carbon-fibre, so offers a real advantage in light airs. Where other boats need 12 knots-plus of wind to hoist the sails, the wallywind flagship can do so in just 6-7 knots due to its exceptionally light displacement.

De Vivo said: “The 130 and 150 are clearly for owners who wish to take long cruises in any sea in the world, on a boat that offers not only comfort and a high degree of service, but also exceptional performance. They are therefore passionate about sailing and the sea.

“The boats will also appeal to young people who want performance and who really connect with
Wally’s brand values.”

Custom Line will begin construction of the first Navetta 50 at the end of the year, with the sub-500GT aluminium yacht joining the Ferretti Group brand’s displacement line and expected to be presented in 2024.

The design is a collaboration between Filippo Salvetti for exterior styling, Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel for interior architecture and decoration, Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Department led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard Engineering Unit.

Custom Line, Navetta 50, Filippo Salvetti, Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel, Piero FerrariFilippo Salvetti handled exterior styling

The yacht has a length of 49.9m and a beam of 9.6m. The beach club is in direct contact with the aft outdoor area on the main deck, which is fitted out as a private lounge. These two exterior spaces are integrated by a rectangular pool in the stern.

On the sun deck, the outdoor area in the bow can be used as a lounge and for refreshments, and can be customised with a Jacuzzi and solarium, while there’s over 70sqm of interior space reserved for the dining area and American bar.

Custom Line, Navetta 50, Filippo Salvetti, Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel, Piero FerrariThe master suite

The master suite is in the bow on the upper deck, has floor-to-ceiling windows offering a 180-degree view and has access to a large private terrace in the bow, complete with sunset solarium. There are four guest cabins on the lower deck, so there’s accommodation for 10 guests and nine crew including the captain.

Custom Line says the use of aluminium rather than steel reduces consumption by about 10-15 per cent compared to a 50m boat of the same size and volume. Hull one will also be SCR ready (Selective Catalytic Reduction).

In Ancona, the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard itself has a trigeneration plant producing electric, heat and cooling power, which reduces the consumption of electricity by up to 79 per cent and heat energy by 32 per cent, with annual primary energy savings of 20 per cent.

The French-owned conglomerate has partnered with Vision Marine Technologies to develop electric outboard powerboats, starting under the Four Winns brand.

Groupe Beneteau has launched a partnership with Vision Marine Technologies to develop and market “100 per cent” electric outboard-equipped powerboats. Vision Marine Technologies’ high-power outboard motors will be integrated on several models across Groupe Beneteau’s brand portfolio as part of the collaboration.

Erik Stromberg, Groupe Beneteau’s Power and Motor Yacht Product Director, said:  “After the construction and thorough testing of a first, jointly developed prototype in early 2022, the objective is to bring to market a 100 per cent electric boat and propulsion package. The key to electrification is to have a full analysis of the customer use case. Many of the boats in our portfolio fit perfectly with a 100 per cent electric solution. This solution is complementary and fully compatible with our other propulsion packages.”

The Vision Marine E-Motion™180hp powertrain system has a battery capacity of 70kWh of continuous power, making it suitable for day boating. The initial commercial offering with Groupe Beneteau will be launched under the Four Winns brand, with deliveries available in spring 2023. The technology will also be rolled out by other brands within Groupe Beneteau.

Alexandre Mongeon, co-founder & CEO of Vision Marine, said: “We are honoured to have the opportunity to power the Four Winns boat with our E-Motion™ 180E technology and look forward to a long-standing partnership with Groupe Beneteau. We continue to showcase our technology and rig the E-Motion™ powertrain on numerous third-party boats to formally move towards scaled production of our E-Motion™ technology for commercial usage.”

In March, Groupe Beneteau launched the Delphia 11 with electric propulsion for boating on inland waterways and lakes. At the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2021, it presented the Excess 15 hybrid sailing catamaran.

Asia Yacht Services (AYS) has delivered a Grand Soleil 44 to its owner following a multi-stop delivery from the Cantiere del Pardo shipyard in Italy to its new home in Hong Kong. Specified in the Race version, the Hong Kong-based yacht is among three recent Asia-Pacific sales for the GS 44, along with orders from the Gulf of Thailand and Sydney.

A recent arrival in Hong Kong, the GS 44R named Wild Card is the first of two Grand Soleil sailing yachts scheduled to arrive in 2022 through Asia Yacht Services, which was appointed as the brand’s dealer for the city last year. Available in a Race or the standard Performance version, the GS 44 features deck and interior design by Nauta Design and naval architecture by Matteo Polli.

Wild Card was commissioned at Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and is now moored at the club’s Shelter Cove facility in Sai Kung. The owner had new sails made and plans to use the GS 44R for cruising and racing.

With a 44ft hull, an overall length of almost 48ft and a beam over 14ft, the GS 44R is designed as a performance sailing yacht and offers a range of ‘go-fast’ options available to optimise under ORC or IRC, as the model proved in her first full racing season in 2021, having launched the previous year. Wild Card is also equipped with a genset and air-conditioning package to cope with the heat and humidity in Hong Kong and other destinations in the region.

Bart J. Kimman, Director of Asia Yacht Services, said: “The owner of Wild Card is happy and the commissioning was a smooth process with the support of the professional team at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club.

The spacious cockpit on the GS 44R is a delight for any racing crew and she will be a thrill to helm. Wild Card also includes a genset/ aircon package to provide comfort while cruising, whether it’s for a weekend in Mirs Bay or at an exotic anchorage in the Philippines.”

The yacht has a 42ft 4in hull, an LOA of 45ft 4in and a beam of 13ft 8in and is available with a range of options including sailing rig, cockpit arc, two or three cabins, electric winches and genset/aircon.

Founded in 2004, AYS represents Grand Soleil and J/Boat sailing monohulls, Seawind and Nautitech catamarans, Corsair trimarans and Bavaria sailing and motor boats, while it also offers brokerage, charter, maintenance and other specialist services.

As well as the Grand Soleil sailing yachts, AYS has sold three Seawind catamarans comprising two units of the 1370 (45ft) and one of the 1160 (38ft), each with long-range cruising in mind. The popular 1370 has a 25ft beam and is among the newest models from company, which has built over 800 catamarans.

“We still have some options for 2022 and early 2023 for delivery of sailing monohulls in the 40-45ft range and sailing catamarans between 44-46ft,” Kimman says.

As well as its partnership with J/Boats, AYS cooperates with Rob Partridge Racing to promote the J/70 one-design class in Hong Kong and design tailor-made training programmes for new cruising and racing boat owners. AYS’s own J/70 sport boat is used for classes and to provide a platform for racing clinics, with multiple courses available.

AYS has sold multiple brokerage yachts including a DeFever 44 trawler motor yacht, which the new owner cruised to Phuket after a journey through Philippine and Indonesian waters.

“The second-hand market is large but diverse and we have a premium selection of pre-owned yachts, all thoroughly inspected before being offered for sale. We have small one-design racers through to serious offshore sailing yachts,” Kimman said.

J/80 class racing

“When buying a pre-owned yacht, there’s always a ‘to do’ list once you own the yacht. We help you organise this list and manage and supervise the relevant refits with the best subcontractors.”

Through its subsidiary My Yacht Moments, AYS also charters its own fleet of sailing catamarans and has also booked clients on some luxury charters in the Mediterranean and Indonesia. Furthermore, the company’s superyacht support services have been reactivated due to requests from yachts set to visit Hong Kong.

For maintenance, AYS can help owners develop programmes or manage the whole programme. “This takes away the hassle and gives owners more happy hours on the water,” Kimman said.

The company has also been appointed as the Asia distributor for Dinnteco lightning protection systems, which use proven and patented technology endorsed by the likes of NATO and are “must have equipment for any sailing yachts staying in (sub) tropical waters”, according to Kimman.

Meanwhile, since last year, AYS has been the operating partner of Delta Marina and Express Service, a multi-mooring facility in Hei Ling Chau off the south coast of Lantau Island. Delta Marina is facilitating the sale and maintenance of up to 600 new Marine Department-approved moorings for yachts up to 70m.

“Our professional team are all passionate watersports lovers, so we know what it takes to enjoy your time on the water,” Kimman said. “We’ll advise you on the selection of the right boat for your needs and assist you with the purchase. More importantly, we’ll arrange multi-level training to get you and your family or team familiar with operating, cruising or racing your boat – and can even help find you a mooring.”

Powerful SeaCat 74’ launches in Thailand

Thailand’s SeaCat Ships has launched a custom-designed SeaCat 74’ power catamaran named Reef Inspector, with the design offering potential for customised layouts and décor.

SeaCat Ships has completed the SeaCat 74’ Reef Inspector, a new high-performance aluminium catamaran with a top speed of over 30 knots. The twin-hulled motor yacht custom-designed by SeaSpeed Design was launched at Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Jomtien, south of Pattaya on Thailand’s eastern seaboard.

“The SeaCat Ships and SeaSpeed Design teams have been busy at work finishing and testing this state-of-the-art, high-performance catamaran, so we’re really proud to present Reef Inspector,” said Paul Birgan, Director of SeaSpeed Design and Design Manager at SeaCat Ships.

Having successfully completed sea trials, the yacht was scheduled to drive on her own hull from Pattaya to her new home in Cairns in Australia’s northeast state of Queensland. The four-deck yacht is fitted out for scuba and snorkelling trips including in the Great Barrier Reef, hence the name Reef Inspector, and includes a dive compressor and scuba gear.

The vessel is built in accordance with Australia’s National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) criteria, both Class 1C for up to 80 passengers and five crew during the day, and Class 2B for 12 passengers plus four crew overnight. The hull and deckhouse are built to Lloyd’s Register SSC standard for offshore operations.

Built in aluminium using deep-vee hulls, the SeaCat 74’ is based on a proven hull by SeaSpeed Design, which specialises in aluminium powercats. Features include a slightly raked bow designed to increase the waterline length.

Boasting an overall length of 22.3m (73ft) and a beam of 8m (26ft 3in), the powercat is both a long range yet very powerful cruising catamaran. Fitted with twin 800hp Volvo Penta D13 inboard diesel engines and Volvo Penta IPS 1050 drives, Reef Inspector delighted the shipyard in sea trials when she confirmed an expected top speed of 30 knots and a fast cruising speed of 25 knots.

Yet due to an efficient hull design, the SeaCat 74’ consumes just 46 litres per hour at its economical, long-range cruising speed of 10 knots, which combines with a large fuel capacity to give an extended range of over 3,000nm. Reef Inspector has 13,000 litres of fuel in two 5,000-litre tanks and two 1,500-litre tanks.

“She is very fuel efficient, cutting though the water with great sea keeping and a low wake motion. She’s based on a proven design, while the slightly raked bow also helps ensure a high-performance hull,” Birgan said.

“SeaCat 74’ is an expedition catamaran and ideal for luxury offshore cruising, yet she’s also suitable for VIP day and overnight charter operations. On Reef Inspector, the exterior finish is fully faired and painted professionally to give a sleek motor yacht look.”

Reef Inspector’s layout includes three decks with air-conditioned indoor areas as well as a sun deck. The main deck has an enclosed lounge that can convert to a four-berth cabin, as well as a dining area next to a large, custom-built aluminium galley.

The deck also has three VIP cabins, each with a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom. The aft deck has a large, covered outdoor dining area as well as dive bottle storage, a davit and a dive tender.

The upper deck has walk-around sides, an aft deck with seating for alfresco dining and a large forward area featuring a jacuzzi, which can be covered and converted to a large day bed. The interior includes the main helm and a lounge area featuring a large daybed/sofa on each side of the central staircase.

The sun deck has an outdoor helm and an area for both deck chairs and solar panels. Equipment includes a Kohler diesel generator, 600-litre watermaker and 600-litre sullage tank.

“The SeaCat 74’ model can be custom designed to suit a broad range of customer requirements,” Birgan said. “SeaCat has a range of aluminium catamarans built on proven hulls up to 42m (135ft), so we’re starting to look at diversifying into the private ‘motor yacht’ market with more customised, luxurious interiors.”

Southeast Asian dealer Boat Lagoon Yachting has reported record sales in the past two years including a strong demand for 70ft-plus luxury motor yachts.

Boat Lagoon Yachting has announced sales of 85 luxury yachts in two years, with new yachts representing 42 of the transactions from mid-2020 to mid-2022. Boat Lagoon Yachting was founded in 1994 and operates in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Maldives.

Vrit Yongsakul, Group CEO of Boat Lagoon Yachting, said, “We have represented Princess Yachts for 27 years across five countries, and this has been one of the strongest couple of years.

“Sales have surged, driven in large part by our base of loyal customers upgrading to bigger boats, and their referrals of friends who seek the service assurance of a long-standing local dealership. About half of these new yacht sales were to existing clients.”

Vrit said 30 of the new yachts sold were upwards of 70ft, showing a strong trend for larger models. Sales in this size segment have included six units of the Princess Y85, while this year’s sales include two units of the British builder’s flagship X95 and the first hull of the upcoming Y95.

“Singapore and particularly Thailand are countries where word-of-mouth and long-term relationships are the keys to success, and this has helped Boat Lagoon Yachting secure more than 75 per cent market share of new 55-100ft yachts sold and manufactured by a global brand,” Vrit said.

“Having sold more than 90 new boats in this size range in recent years, we are fortunate to have a family of owners who are ready to move to larger yachts. At the same time, the amazing new designs in the range are helping to attract an increasing number of new boaters into this exciting activity.”
