Stella M left the Damen Yachting yard in Vlissingen

Stella M has become the first Amels 200 Limited Editions design to be delivered, recently departing the Damen Yachting Vlissingen City shipyard in the Netherlands for a busy summer season cruising the Mediterranean. Her sale was announced at the end of 2019 and she was launched earlier this year.

Captain Spyros Karalis has been at the shipyard for the best part of a year as part of the team overseeing the build and final outfitting on behalf of the owner.

“This summer season is going to be very full-on,” Karalis said. “We have plans to cruise the whole Mediterranean starting from Spain and then up to Greece, with France, Italy and all the other islands in between. I am very much looking forward to getting her out on the ocean and welcoming the owner on board for all the adventures that lie ahead.”

Stella M was the first of two Amels 200 hulls to launch earlier this year

Stella M features custom interiors by Reymond Langton, while her 60m design is an evolution of the Amels 188 designed by Tim Heywood. Like her predecessor, the 1,015GT Amels 200 features hybrid electrical power technology, a four-deck elevator and air-conditioned gym on the sun deck.

Jorrit Pilaar, Amels and Damen Yachting Sales Manager, said: “We are very proud to hand Stella M over to her owner. It has been a very intense project in challenging times, but her delivery, on-time and on-budget, really comes down to the great collaboration between all parties involved. We wish her owner and crew all the best and look forward to seeing Stella M across the Med this summer.”

The owner was represented by Burgess in the sale. Richard Lambert, Senior Partner – Head of Sales at Burgess Monaco, said: “We would like to congratulate Amels and Damen Yachting on the successful completion of this prestigious yacht during these unprecedented times and we are delighted that our client has taken delivery ahead of the Mediterranean summer season.”

Riva launches 76’ Perseo Super

The Ferretti Group brand has launched hull one of the upgraded version of the popular 76’ Perseo in its La Spezia shipyard in Italy.

The Riva 76’ Perseo Super was built in La Spezia

Riva has launched the first hull of its 76’ Perseo Super, a model that’s scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 7-12. An upgraded version of the 76’ Perseo, the yacht was launched in the La Spezia shipyard that produces the brand’s models from 76-130ft.

Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group, said: “Only Riva can propel a legend into the future because only Riva perfectly understands the codes of the brand’s tradition and its aesthetic and technological know-how. The result is Riva 76’ Perseo Super, whose prodigious beauty radiates elegance and sportiness. Super by name and in reality.”

With an overall length of 23.25m (76ft) and a beam of 5.75m (18ft), the new Sportfly model is a design collaboration between Officina Italiana Design founder Mauro Micheli and Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee and Engineering Department.

Interior rendering of the Riva 76’ Perseo Super

The yacht features over 40sqm of glazed surfaces on the hull and superstructure, while Riva traditions are evident in the use of mahogany and polished stainless steel.

In the cockpit, the dining area can become a spacious sun pad by lowering the table for eight and covering it with cushions. The sun deck features a 4sqm central sun pad, while the upper helm is flanked by sofas on both sides.

The combination of sand-coloured oak and light or dark lacquer is a distinctive feature of the entire main deck and throughout the interior, while rosewood is an alternative. The standard lower-deck layout features three en-suite guest cabins – a fourth is optional – plus a small lounge and a galley.

Multihulls Special 2021: Leopard powering on

Multihulls Special 2021: Leopard powering on

SHARE

One of the household names in cruising catamarans, Leopard recently launched its new entry-level sailing cat a year after debuting its flagship powercat.

The Leopard 42 premiered at Palm Beach in late March

Leopard is one of the household names in cruising catamarans and this year marked the Palm Beach International Boat Show in late March with the premiere of the Leopard 42, its new entry-level sailing catamaran that made its Asia-Pacific debut at the Sanctuary Cove show in late May.

Over the past two decades, about 2,500 ‘Leopards’ have been built exclusively by Robertson & Caine in South Africa, a figure that includes charter cats for the brand’s sister companies, The Moorings and Sunsail.

The Leopard 42 has an upper lounge like its big sisters

Covid aside, recent annual production in Cape Town has averaged 190-200 boats per year, with sailing cats making up about 70 per cent of that figure, although Leopard’s long-standing production of powercats for both private owners and charter has made it a global leader in the sector.

Its current powercat range comprises the 43 PC, with over 130 units produced since 2015, and the flagship 53 PC, which debuted at last year’s Miami International Boat Show and has already sold over 55 units.

Successor to the popular 51 PC, the flagship 53 PC has sold over 55 units

The new flagship succeeded the 51 PC, which established itself as the most popular powercat in its class, with 137 hulls built since 2013.

“Leopard is the leading catamaran brand in the US market and the world leader in power catamarans,” says Kit Chotithamaporn, Leopard’s Yacht Sales Manager – Asia. “The success of the new 53 PC has been incredible. It’s a completely new design and interior, much larger and three tonnes heavier than the 51PC, but achieves the same performance with the same engines.”

The Leopard 53 PC’s strong global sales include multiple orders in Asia

The popularity of privately owned Leopard catamarans has increased through Covid, although the travel restrictions have had a direct hit on the demand for charter cats.

“We’ve seen a boom in [private] yacht sales in 2020 and 2021. After all, what better way to social distance and stay safe than being on a boat,” says Kit, who’s based in Phuket.

The Leopard 45 is among the brand’s three sailing cats

“But even though the number of Leopard orders for private customers increased during Covid, the production for our Moorings and Sunsail fleets decreased, resulting in an overall reduction in 2020 and 2021. We expect to return to pre-Covid levels in 2022.”

Leopard has a long-standing presence in Asia, where the brand sells more privately owned powercats than sailing models, although the overall split is about 50/50 when also considering The Moorings fleet.

An upper lounge was introduced on the Leopard 45 in 2020

“In Asia, the most popular Leopard models are still the powercats as they offer great performance yet are very fuel efficient, and the amount of space inside and out is hard to beat,” Kit says.

Even through the Covid era, impressive sales across Asia have included three 53 PCs, one of which was handed over in April to an owner from Japan who’s ‘sailing’ her all the way from Cape Town to Thailand, where he also has a residence.

The Leopard 42 had its Asia-Pacific debut at Sanctuary Cove in May

New units of the 43 PC have recently been delivered to Hong Kong and Phuket. Sailing-catamaran sales have included a new Leopard 42 and a 50 to China, and a 45 to Korea.

The Leopard 42, available with three or four en-suite cabins, succeeds the 40 but notable differences include the introduction of an ‘upper lounge’, a feature added last year to the 45, whose exterior has been redesigned to match its smaller and bigger sisters.

The cockpit on the new Leopard 42

Meanwhile, the new interior styling first seen on the 53 PC and now featuring on the 42 is being rolled out on the other models.

“The Leopard 42 has been very well received. Even prior to the launch, sales were doing well, with 30 boats contracted, and deliveries are now pushed into the summer of 2022,” says Kit, who expects Leopard to announce two new models by the end of this year.

Azimut premieres Grande Trideck

Azimut premieres Grande Trideck

SHARE

The Italian builder has staged the online premiere of its new 38m flagship, which is distinguished by an aft sea view terrace that conceals a private patio on the main deck.

Alberto Mancini designed the exterior of the Grande Trideck

Azimut has staged the online premiere of its new flagship, the Grande Trideck, which it has described as ‘three decks plus one’ due to a raised sea view terrace at the aft end of the main deck.

With an overall length of 38.22m (125ft 5in) and a beam of 7.98m (26ft 2in), the Trideck is 10ft 7in longer than the yard’s previous flagship, the Grande 35 Metri. The first Azimut to feature a tri-deck design, the Trideck features lower, main, upper and sun decks, has a sub-300GT volume and the option of five or six guest cabins.

Outdoor areas on the (l-r) sun, upper, main and lower decks

The Trideck features an exterior by Alberto Mancini and interiors by Achille Salvagni, while Pierluigi Ausonio worked with the Azimut Benetti Research and Development Department on the naval architecture.

The Italian builder aimed “to create new spaces more congenial to the demands of contemporary owners, increasingly inclined to a less formal lifestyle onboard and closer contact with the sea”.

The beach area on the lower deck

The standout feature is the sea view terrace, an extra 30sqm deck at the stern that sits aft of and several steps above the private patio on the main deck.

The sea view terrace features a huge aft-facing C-shaped sofa and sits above most of the 30sqm beach club on the lower deck, which is served by a day head and wet bar.

The sea view terrace is at the aft end of the main deck

Like the Grande S10, which Mancini also designed, the sea view terrace or aft main deck provides privacy for a covered patio with dining table that sits at the entrance to the interior.

The private patio sits below the sea view terrace

Other outdoor areas include the aft upper deck, which features the main outdoor dining area featuring a square table as well as corner sofas. Forward on the same deck is the foredeck lounge with a circular whirlpool tub.

The open sun deck features a large sunbathing area aft with freestanding furniture, a central lounge with facing sofas and table, and a forward bar and barbecue.

The sun deck has an aft sunbathing area, central lounge and forward bar

Salvagni has created a relaxed interior that includes a main-deck lounge with no formal dining area. The main deck also features the galley and the master suite forward.

The upper deck features the upper saloon, which can be converted to an indoor dining area, as well as the option of a Captain’s cabin or guest cabin, the latter chosen by the owners of the first hulls.

The main saloon shows Achille Salvagni’s signature style

The lower deck features two VIP suites aft and two guest cabins forward, as well as four crew cabins for six crew.

The Trideck features an advanced power management system that manages onboard electricity consumption through a balance of shore power and the generators, or only between generators when at sea.

The upper deck offers indoor and outdoor dining

There’s also the option of Hotel Mode for zero emissions and total silence when at anchor. With a lithium battery pack of about 130kWh, the Trideck can operate the main onboard utilities with the generators switched off for up to 4hrs during the day and 8hrs at night.

Developed with the support of the R&D Department of the Azimut-Benetti Group, the boat is based on an advanced naval platform and benefits from the second-generation D2P (Displacement to Planing) semi-planing hull, which reduces consumption. Furthermore, the entire superstructure is laminated in carbon-fibre for a 30 per cent local reduction in weight and an absolute weight reduction of 6 tonnes.

The owner’s suite is forward on the main deck

Grande Trideck has a dual-motor option, with a pair of MTUs of 2400hp or 2600hp each. The first model under test, fitted with 2600hp engines, recorded a top speed of 24 knots, a range of 700 miles at 19 knots and over 1,700 miles at 12 knots. The Trideck offers comparable and sometimes lower consumption figures than those of the Grande 35 Metri.

Azimut is represented in Hong Kong, Macau, southern China, Taiwan and Singapore by Marine Italia.

Riviera to launch flagship in 2022

Australia’s largest luxury motor yacht builder has already sold several units of its 78 Motor Yacht including to Thailand through long-time dealer Lee Marine.

The Riviera 78 Motor Yacht shown with an open bridge deck

Riviera will launch its new flagship 78 Motor Yacht in 2022, having already sold four units by late May including one to Thailand through dealer Lee Marine. Riviera Australia owner Rodney Longhurst has described the new yacht as “timeless and contemporary”.

The shipyard builds yachts from 39-78ft at its 16.8-hectare facility on Queensland’s Gold Coast and recently debuted the 645 SUV at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, where Riviera sold 25 boats according to a post-show announcement.

However, the 78 Motor Yacht marks a new era for the builder, which has built over 5,700 yachts since it was founded in 1980. Created in collaboration with superyacht designer Luca Vallebona, the new 56-tonne flagship has an overall length of 80ft 8in, a 72ft 6in hull and a beam of 19ft 8in.

Alfresco dining in the cockpit or aft deck

The 78 is available with an enclosed or open bridge deck, has accommodation for up to 10 adults in four luxurious staterooms and crew quarters, and features flush surfaces throughout. Owners can choose furniture placement, colours and fabrics and how they wish to utilise the spaces on board.

The main and bridge decks both extend through to the stern, offering multiple dining, entertaining and relaxing spaces. A range of premium fabrics and leathers are used throughout the interior, combining with a painted finish to walls and headliners, while varnished, finely matched timber can be selected in high gloss or satin finishes.

The main-deck may include dining and lounge spaces or simply be a large lounge with dining on the aft deck, which can be semi-enclosed, covered entirely by the bridge-deck overhang and protected by optional clears.

Aft view of the saloon, which has an aft galley

The large U-shaped aft galley has twin ovens and a four-burner hob, while an internal timber staircase leads from the port side of the saloon to the bridge deck, which also offers lounge, entertaining and dining spaces. A bar is built into the aft deck and a day head is optional.

The highly versatile foredeck offers several entertaining layouts and a Euro sun awning with the option to carry a tender or jetski and davit.

An elegant, curved timber staircase from the forward end of the main saloon leads to the lower deck, which has four staterooms and three bathrooms. The full-beam master suite midships has extended hull windows, an electrically adjustable king-size bed and his-and-hers en-suite bathroom.

The master stateroom is among four guest cabins

The forward VIP stateroom also has an en-suite bathroom, the port cabin offers the option of a double bed or twin beds that can slide together, while the starboard cabin includes two single cross-over berths. A third bathroom is shared and can act as a day head.

Two doors are built into the exterior of the transom. A separate door on the starboard side provides access to the stand-up engine room and crew quarters. On the port side, a larger door – with built-in shower – lifts to reveal a garage for water sports, diving and fishing equipment.

The teak-laid swim platform was developed in co-operation with Opacmare to provide a three-step design that can be lowered into the water to create easy access for swimming and launching water toys. A swim ladder is incorporated into the side of the platform.

The master stateroom’s en-suite bathroom

The yacht can reach about 30 knots with twin MAN turbo diesel engines delivering up to 1,550hp (1,140kW) each through Twin Disc Quickshift gearboxes and Express Joystick System with integrated station-hold Express Positioning System. With a fuel capacity of 10,200 litres, the 78 is capable of cruising for more than 1,000nm. The yacht includes Humphree carbon-fibre fin stabilisation.

Riviera has increased the Structural Limited Warranty on its yachts by an additional two years to seven years or up to 2,800 hours of boating, whichever comes first after delivery. The company has also extended its Express Limited Warranty, covering all non-structural components, from one year to two years.

Riviera yachts powered by MAN engines enjoy a five-year limited mechanical warranty for up to 2,500 hours of operation. The MAN Gold Standard Premium covers all MAN-branded engines and engine room components.

Riva Lounge graces Art Central

Riva Lounge graces Art Central

SHARE

An elegant, cinematically-inspired Riva Lounge proved a popular addition to Art Central, which this year was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Ferretti Group Asia Pacific introduced the Riva brand to a new audience through its Riva Lounge at Art Central, which is among Asia’s most prestigious art events and was held this year at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wanchai.

Ferretti Group, which owns Riva and seven other yacht-building brands, created the Riva Lounge as a haven for yacht lovers and fans of cinema and iconic style. The Riva Lounge featured two seating areas, scale models of several of the brand’s most iconic yachts, samples of the brand’s diverse line of merchandise and an array of photographs celebrating the ‘Riva in the Movie’ theme.

Inspired by the many big-screen adventures featuring Riva’s iconic yachts, the four-minute Riva in the Movie short film starring Pierfrancesco Favino and an Aquariva premiered at the 77th Venice Film Festival last September (Click Here). A 300-page, coffee-table book (Click Here) of the same name was published late last year.

The partnership between Ferretti Group and Art Central linked the creativity and passion found in the world’s artistic masterpieces with those reflected in the stunning vessels designed by the legendary Italian yacht maker.

Fabiomassimo Discoli, Ferretti Group Asia Pacific’s Sales & Marketing Director, said: “Riva has a tradition, heritage and relationship with art, so we wanted to show this at an exclusive art exhibition like Art Central.

“Riva creates masterpieces, objects of desire and represent the ultimate in craftsmanship. The yachts have been immortalised in many films for decades and Riva in the Movie celebrates the brand as an icon of luxury and la dolce vita.

The Riva Lounge at Art Central was an interesting experiment and experience. We received great appreciation and feedback from the public and we’re confident this collaboration will have a future.”

Riva’s boats have captured the imagination of the cinematic industry for over 60 years, dating back to the 1950s when the world first discovered that the most beautiful boats were made in Italy, specifically in Sarnico.

Riva boats ranging from the iconic mahogany classics to their ultramodern cousins have appeared in at least 39 movies, from 1954’s Mambo starring Silvana Mangano to 2019’s Men in Black: International featuring Chris Hemsworth. The boats have also appeared in the likes of Nikita, James Bond films and multi-award-winning arthouse films like The Great Beauty.

Asian-inspired interiors by French studio Liaigre and a champagne hull distinguish Sanlorenzo’s third 44.5m Alloy superyacht, while the Italian builder also announces the sale of the sixth unit.

Sanlorenzo has delivered its third Alloy, a 44.5m, 480GRT fast-displacement aluminium model featuring an exterior by Italy’s Studio Zuccon International. The new hull known as Alloy 137 features special, Asian-inspired interiors by Liaigre, marking the French studio’s first collaboration with the Italian builder.

The owner requested interiors “inspired by an Asian style but with a French touch”, with Liaigre merge the two by incorporating elements and details reminiscent of Asian culture blended with the historical French culture of interior design. Woods used include light-coloured natural elm, which belongs to the French tradition, and polished eucalyptus, widely used in Asia.

The Alloy design features a three-level owner’s apartment spanning 147sqm (1,582sqft) across both indoor and outdoor areas, which the yard describes as “a solution never seen before on a superyacht of this size”.

The owner’s area on the main deck consists of a 70sqm sleeping area with a bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom and lobby, while a 66sqm area on the upper deck is divided between an indoor studio area and a large open area aft with sundeck, swimming pool and relaxation areas.

Liaigre’s interior design included positioning the vanity unit directly on the opening terrace, not inside the bathroom, a solution never seen before.

Guillaume Rolland, Liaigre’s Principal and Head of Yacht Design, said: “We approached this interior project in terms of challenge. Starting from a given structure, we thoroughly studied every single environment to maximise its functionality by creating and obtaining new living spaces for the owner. “

The social areas include the main living area on the main deck, the relaxation/cinema area on the upper deck and four double guest cabins on the lower deck.

The focal point of the main-deck saloon is a photograph by the Japanese photographer Shibata, selected for its for its intense shade of red and triangular composition.

Examples of Asian-inspired architecture are doorways that narrow slightly at the bottom and the choice to integrate two terrariums in glass capsules containing bonsai trees into the walls of the main-deck saloon.

Outdoor areas include the sun deck, an 83sqm outdoor area offering multiple possibilities for open-air lunches, sunbathing, relaxation and socialising, as well as the large 102sqm beach club including a bar/gym area and a folding stern platform and two side platforms.

Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project said: “Among all the Alloy projects, in 137 there was a particular development thanks to the collaboration with Liaigre, which took care of the interiors and gave great added value in terms of interpretation, consolidating and strengthening the fascinating architectural design of the range and giving it even more recognition and identity.

“Another important aspect concerns the colour theme. The champagne colour has created a different mood for the boat, which, in the sportiness and tension of its lines, acquires a more classic and elegant approach.

“The Alloy is an example of how the exploration of the territories of living, in boats as well as in architecture in the broadest sense, can still grow, nourish itself and translate into new languages and new opportunities for life. After all, this is the primary role of architecture itself: to be, first and foremost, an instrument to allow man to live better.”

The yacht has accommodation for 10 guests and nine crew, and a top speed of 21 knots with twin MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines.
