The Majesty 49 sports angular exterior lines

UAE builder Gulf Craft is completing hull one of its new Majesty 49, which will undergo sea trials before leaving the factory by the end of June.

Ready for immediate delivery, the 47ft 9in model is available through Farfalla Marine, which represents Majesty Yachts and fellow Gulf Craft brands Nomad and Oryx in Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

The Majesty 49 has a big swim platform and open aft cockpit

The 49 is the new entry-level model in the Majesty range – which includes the new flagship 175 – but features different exterior styling to her predecessors and is easily recognisable due to her striking, angular lines.

The first hull comes equipped with full options including tropical-strength air-conditioning throughout, making it suitable for hot Asian climates. The yacht is fitted with twin 650hp Volvo Penta D6-IPS engines, although a wide range of options are offered on the model including four 400hp Mercury Verado outboards.

The flybridge is the signature outdoor area

The outdoor spaces include a swim platform, aft cockpit and a foredeck with sunpads, although the flybridge is the standout exterior zone. Accessed from the cockpit by portside stairs, the flybridge features a wet bar in the aft port corner, an L-shaped sofa and an adjustable table, while forward is the upper helm and a roomy triple sunpad.

The saloon features plenty of seating and a flexible table

The interior layout starts with a large galley aft, while the saloon features a C-shaped sofa and a flexible table to port, facing more seating and an entertainment centre to starboard, aft of the helm station.

The model’s most impressive features include her guest accommodation, which comprises three cabins on the lower deck. The master suite is forward and features a walkaround double bed, large hull windows and an en-suite bathroom on the starboard side.

The master suite is forward, benefiting from the hull windows

The two guest cabins span the yacht’s 14ft 5in beam midships, each with two sliding single beds and both sharing the day head with shower to port.

All new yachts delivered through Farfalla Marine include a 12-month management package, advanced crew training and AGlaze marine sealant protection as standard.

Bespoke Riviera 78 for Phuket

Bespoke Riviera 78 for Phuket

Thailand dealer Lee Marine is working with Riviera and Italian superyacht designer Luca Vallebona to develop hull two of the flagship 78 Motor Yacht for Phuket-based owners.

The Phuket owners have chosen the enclosed flybridge

Hull two of Riviera’s flagship 78 Motor Yacht is expected to arrive in Thailand by mid-2022, revealed Lee Marine, the Australian builder’s longest-serving international dealer. The hull destined for Phuket will feature the enclosed flybridge option and be powered by upgraded MAN 1800hp engines.

The first Riviera 78 Motor Yacht for Asia has been ordered by a couple, Jacky and Rudi, who are upgrading from a 68 Sports Motor Yacht they purchased in 2016, which they first used in Australia before shipping it to Phuket and cruising extensively in Thailand and Myanmar.

The 78 Motor Yacht has an overall length of 80ft 8in

The 78 is Riviera’s biggest-ever model, usurping the 72 Sports Motor Yacht, and offers greater room for customisation than any other model from the builder, which worked with Italian superyacht designer Luca Vallebona on the interiors.

“Riviera really wanted to step up their game on the 78 Motor Yacht, which is over and above anything they’ve done before. The interiors are clean and stylish, and already show a new and fresh direction for Riviera,” says Martin Holmes, General Manager of Lee Marine, who has been with the company since 1997.

The open aft deck of the flybridge

“For Jacky and Rudi, the build quality and reliability of Riviera was never in doubt, and the yard were listening closely to their suggestions and feedback about the 78 Motor Yacht. With the knowledge gained from cruising aboard the 68 Sports Motor Yacht, the idea of designing a bespoke Riviera flagship made for a confident choice.”

As Jacky says: “The opportunity to personalise the interior of the 78 Motor Yacht was particularly attractive. It allows us to make it very much our own yacht.”

The enclosed flybridge houses the upper lounge and helm

Rudi is also excited about the exterior styling. “I love the impression of a single long window sweeping forward from amidships,” she says. “And I love the aft deck covered all the way to the stern. It’s really just like a superyacht.”

Lee Marine, which has represented Riviera in Thailand since 1998, was first introduced to the future flagship in 2019. A full-size mock-up was later built at the factory, so Holmes, Jacky and Rudi had the opportunity for a guided tour and to get a feel for the space, albeit via a Zoom call.

The roomy aft cockpit on the main deck

“As with all new Riviera models, owner and dealer feedback was closely listened to and it was fascinating to see the design evolve,” Holmes says. “The 78 Motor Yacht takes Riviera’s proven, trusted characteristics of a great hull, offshore capability and superb build quality, but now focuses more on becoming a ‘yacht’ where the spaces are more generous and sumptuous.

“Every corner of the yacht has been studied and refined, so this promises to be the best Riviera yet, with bigger generators, bigger tanks, increased soundproofing and now a toy garage aft.”

The saloon features interior stairs to the enclosed flybridge

Lee Marine has been working closely with Riviera but also Vallebona, whose portfolio includes the 42m Mondomarine Serenity, a winner at the 2016 World Superyacht awards. All involved are working to create an interior reflecting the desires of the Phuket-based owners, who have a strong idea of what they want in the 80ft 8in motor yacht, which has a 72ft 6in hull and a beam of 19ft 8in.

“Riviera’s collaboration with Luca has been a great success in my opinion and provided scope to create a highly personalised interior. He has brought a very clean style, with Italian touches, and we’ve talked a lot with him directly on behalf of the owners,” Holmes says.

The full-beam master suite is among four lower-deck guest cabins

“In terms of construction, we are studying small changes to the [hull two] layout to suit the owners’ specific requirements and these are being studied by Riviera. The interior décor and finishes are another strong focus. We are also working through the specifications, but we can say that she will be fully equipped and fully bespoke.” www.rivieraaustralia.com www.leemarine.com

Multihulls Special 2021: Sunreef expands range, production

Multihulls Special 2021: Sunreef expands range, production

SHARE

In Yacht Style’s annual Multihulls Special, Sunreef Yachts reveals it has a busy summer ahead with the launches of four big new models while working across new and old facilities.

Sunreef recently launched a carbon version of its popular 80

Sunreef Yachts is in an exciting period as it continues to roll out models from its updated sailing and powercat lines headed by the Sunreef 80 and 80 Sunreef Power.

At the same time, it’s preparing for a busy summer, when it’s scheduled to launch the first 80ft sailing and power models from its new Eco line, as well as the first 70 Sunreef Power and 100 Sunreef Power, while continuing to build its flagship 49M Power.

Sunreef is developing its new shipyard in Gdansk

All this while continuing its ongoing relocation from its original base at the historic Gdansk Shipyard to its spectacular and still-evolving 81,000sqm site further along the Martwa Wisla river. Last year, more manufacturing halls were added at the new site and all office buildings were completed, today housing all non-factory staff.

Despite retaining its original 35,000sqm shipyard to help keep up with demand, the company is already planning to expand its new production facilities, warehouses and workshops.

Francis Lapp founded Sunreef in 2002

“Despite a difficult year worldwide, we kept growing and hiring new staff. We expanded our new shipyard and maintained growth. We have 1,500 people working at Sunreef now and we’re still hiring,” says Francis Lapp, founder and President of the company.

“With the growth we’re currently experiencing, we have the old and new shipyard working in parallel. This enables us to keep up the pace and maintain a good rhythm of production. Eventually, all the production will move to the new facility, but as for now, we keep building in two locations. Complete relocation is planned for the end of 2023.”

A customised flybridge on a Sunreef 80 sailing cat

The pioneering Polish builder has been doing things on a larger scale and in a more customised fashion ever since Lapp formed the company in 2002 and the following year launched a Sunreef 74, an oceangoing luxury flybridge catamaran. In 2008, it launched its first big powercat, the double-deck 70 Sunreef Power with oceanic range.

Sunreef’s recent surge in sales and expansion follows an overhaul of its sail and power ranges, which started in memorable fashion with the world premieres of the Sunreef 80 and the 80 Sunreef Power at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Ocean Vibes, the first Sunreef 70, was launched last year

The huge success of the Sunreef 80 – whose sales include the Chinese-owned Double Happiness – spearheads a sailing range that also includes the 50, 60 and the 70, whose first hull was launched last year.

Meanwhile, Rafa Nadal and a China-based client are among the growing list of owners of the 80 Sunreef Power, which was joined late last year by the first 60 Power, while the first 70 Power will launch this summer.

Rafa Nadal received his 80 Sunreef Power last year

“We inaugurated both the sail and power range with 80-footers that brought a lot of new customers and the Sunreef 80 has become a bestseller as well as the 80 Sunreef Power. Those models spearheaded the success of our new range,” Lapp says.

“The Sunreef 50, 60 and 70 in the sail range have also had great feedback from our clients, while the 60 Sunreef Power is growing in popularity with new deliveries including the US and Qatar.”

The 60 Sunreef Power is the builder’s newest powercat

As seen with global sales of pre-owned superyachts, Lapp believes Covid has made many clients considering buying a yacht in the future push ahead with a purchase while boating stands out as one of the most enjoyable ‘safe’ activities.

“In some ways, the pandemic has pushed people to reach out for the things they desire and stop putting plans on hold. This translated into a growing number of sales. I’m not surprised with this trend as I can understand people looking for more privacy, more freedom, more quality time with friends and family away from all the stress and anxiety.”

The first 100 Sunreef Power is among upcoming launches

The yard has a history of building bigger models, having launched the double-deck Sunreef 102 sailing cat and sloop-rigged Sunreef 114 in 2010, plus the double-deck Sunreef 88 in 2017. Its biggest ongoing builds include the 100 Power announced last year and the 49M Power, a 161-footer with a beam of 55ft.

Spearheading the new Eco range are the upcoming Sunreef 80 Eco and 80 Sunreef Power Eco, both featuring solar panels integrated into the hull sides, flybridge and hardtop, and even the mast on the sailing yacht.

The first Sunreef 80 Eco will launch this summer

“Apart from our solar system and electric propulsion, the Sunreef 80 Eco will be able to generate clean energy while under sail due to a hydro-generation system,” Lapp says. “Both cats will be equipped with custom-engineered, ultralight battery banks and will feature a gas-based air-conditioning system that will be a huge energy saver.”

Sunseeker 100 Yacht set for autumn

SHARE

After starting the year with the release of the ‘Famous Five’ models, the British builder is now preparing to launch the first 100 Yacht this autumn, having secured several early orders.

The Sunseeker 100 Yacht can reach 29 knots

Sunseeker has announced four orders for the all-new 100 Yacht, with hull one scheduled to launch in the autumn. Standout features include a single-level upper deck from flybridge to foredeck, a forward master stateroom with a private bow terrace and a large beach club with Sunseeker’s innovative new X-Tend™ system.

Furthermore, the 97ft 11in motor yacht with a 22ft 8in beam has a sub-24m load line length, which reduces the costs and crew requirements of 24m-plus classification. The 100 Yacht has been awarded CE Category A/Ocean status.

The almost 98ft yacht has a sub-24m load line length

Andrea Frabetti, CEO of Sunseeker, said: “The 100 Yacht is a remarkable example of bespoke refinement and has been crafted with the passion and precision only found at Sunseeker. It abounds with innovative new features and entertainment options including an industry-defining open-plan, bow-to-stern entertainment flybridge and a master stateroom with private access to its terrace at the bow.

“It’s truly mesmerising and a proud reflection of the extraordinary talent of our in-house design, engineering and production teams. Falling within the 24m-load line ruling, the 100 Yacht maximises on everything, delivering an experience for the owner that cannot be surpassed.”

Sunseeker’s X-Tend system provides seating in the beach club – or cockpit

Powered by twin MTU 12V 2000 M96X engines as standard or MTU 16V 2000 M96L as an option, the 100 Yacht can reach up to 29 knots and has a range of 1,300nm at 12 knots, with a fuel capacity of 12,800 litres.

The tender garage can accommodate a Williams 460 Sportjet and GTX255 jet-ski, with extra stowage for Seabobs, diving equipment and paddleboards. The beach club includes an oversized rain shower and large built-in barbecue, while the X-TEND™ seating faces aft in its lowered position or, at the flick of a switch, forward at cockpit level. A hydraulic ladder passarelle aids access to watersports.

The flybridge has direct access to the foredeck on the same level

Accessed by dual teak staircases, the aft cockpit offers free-standing or fixed seating variations, an integrated wet bar with a fridge, ice maker, stainless-steel sink and storage lockers.

The vast flybridge has L-shaped seating, a wet bar and space for a spa bath and accompanying sunpads or free-standing loungers. A second helm station can be specified on the flybridge, while wing stations are fitted as standard. A new hardtop design is available with glazing or retractable tilting slats for added shade control.

The flybridge has space for a spa bath aft

The flybridge leads to the foredeck via walk-around access on both sides. Forward of the raised pilot house, the foredeck has two separate seating arrangements, an oversized sunpad, storage and refrigeration options, and can transform into an open-air cinema with laser projector and 140-inch screen.

On the main deck, the saloon has floor-to-ceiling glazing, sliding doors to starboard, L-shaped sofa, 55in TV and sideboard for ample storage. Forward is a dining area for eight guests, while a feature wall showcases exposed and seemingly floating stair treads leading to the wheelhouse above and lower deck. The large galley is forward to port and offers direct side deck access for crew.

The owner’s suite has direct access to the private bow terrace

The full-beam master stateroom is forward and has a large lobby entrance, walk-in wardrobe with feature shelving, an office and a generous en-suite with twin washbasins and rain shower. Owners can also access a first-in-class bow terrace for ultimate privacy through a cleverly sculptured, fully-glazed sliding door forward. The lower deck has four guest cabins and the crew quarters.

Gordon Hui

Gordon Hui Yip-wang has joined Camper & Nicholsons as a Senior Sales Broker in its Hong Kong office. Hui is best known in Asian yachting circles for his work with Sunseeker, having headed the British builder’s sales in the region from 2003 to 2020.

“We are delighted to welcome Gordon, a highly respected figure in the yachting industry, to our team,” said Lester Lam, Chairman of Camper & Nicholsons Asia and a member of C&N International’s Board of Directors.

In his new role, Gordon is looking forward to introducing clients to the sustainable innovations coming out of leading shipyards in Europe.

I hope to look after my clients and help them upgrade to all the latest exciting brands and their new models,” Hui said. “For clients looking for 37m-plus metal or alloy yachts, we hope to introduce buyers to the latest hybrid systems since these are exciting, environmentally friendly superyachts that new owners can enjoy while looking after our oceans.”

Lo Rider listed by C&N Asia

Camper & Nicholsons is the CA for the 75ft aluminium-hulled Lo Rider, a Frank Mulder-designed gentleman’s launch that can power up to 43 knots.

Between 1992 and 2017, Hui personally owned seven Sunseeker yachts, the first three while living in England. After spending his early career in the property industry in the UK, Hui moved back to Hong Kong and established the dealership for Sunseeker in 2003.

He eventually oversaw most key territories in Asia including India, the Maldives, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Korea, Japan and China. During his time with Sunseeker, over 235 yachts and superyachts were sold across the entire region including 131 in Hong Kong.

C&N sale set for HK arrival

A new Azimut Grande 35 Metri sold by Carmen Lau of Camper & Nicholsons is scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong in the summer.

Hui played an important role in opening the Chinese market to new-build yachts. He delivered a yacht to a client in Hangzhou in 2004, the first of over 20 Sunseeker sales in the mainland where dealerships were established in Sanya, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Qingdao. He plans to continue building his relationships in mainland China.

“The Chinese market is full of potential, especially with the current and proposed yacht-friendly regulations in Hainan,” he said. “For the past four years, 90 per cent of my clients in Hong Kong had been Chinese, so it’s an exciting time. It’s also important to monitor the Chinese brands for the local market and I am in close contact with several shipyards.”

The Italian builder has revealed details and images of hull one of its biggest-ever model, the brand’s first to feature extensive use of carbon-fibre.

The first hull has a top speed of 28 knots

Ferretti Yachts has revealed exterior and interior photos of its new flagship 1000, which is the largest boat it has ever built and its first to feature extensive use of carbon-fibre on various parts of the superstructure and hard top. The first hull is fitted with optional 2,638mhp MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines, for a top speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 24 (preliminary data).

Following on from the 670, 720 and 500, the 1000 is the fourth Ferretti Yachts model with exteriors by Filippo Salvetti and the second – following the 500 – with interiors by IdeaeItalia, which offers a choice of Classic or Contemporary styling.

The yacht features a large teak swim platform

Teak is used widely including on the swim platform, the contours of the rear door, the walkways and the stairway up to the flybridge, as well as cladding the external helm station.

Two symmetrical staircases from the aft cockpit lead up to the 55sqm (592sqt) flybridge, where the aft area offers space for three Piper model Roda sofas on the first hull.

The flybridge offers almost 600sqft of social space

To port, the dining area under the Nero Elena hard top has an Eden model Roda sofa in teak, metal and fabric customised for Ferretti Yachts, and two tables with natural teak tops that can be joined together to form a large dining table. On the opposite side are a big double bar unit with a Corian top and built-in sink, an optional grill, and a refrigerator and storage area.

The helm station has two electrically adjustable Poltrona Frau pilot seats and two co-pilot seats on the opposite side. The hard top can be configured with a fixed glass insert, one that opens or a system of adjustable glass slats that move aft to provide a large opening.

The bow area is accessed from the flybridge

Flybridge side decks lead to the spacious bow area, which is furnished with sofas and dinettes that can be transformed into a generous sun pad by joining the two up-down tables opposite each other with the sofas and covering them with fitted cushions.

On the main deck, the cockpit offers facing sofas and an infinity view aft, and leads to the interior, which features large full-height windows and freestanding furniture.

Hull one features IdeaeItalia’s Classic styling

The first hull features IdeaeItalia’s Classic styling, with a mood defined by soft, balanced colour tones and subtle contrasts (Contemporary offers “fresh tones and bolder colours”). Walnut wood is used throughout the interiors in various ways: flame-coloured and bold for the furniture, striped and softer for the walls, and ribbed for special accents.

The multifunctional 10sqm galley is fully appointed and can be fitted with any latest generation appliance such as a double oven, side-by-side fridge with a capacity of over 500 litres, a wine cooler and a built-in coffee machine, as on the first hull.

The raised helm station with the option of four 24-inch displays

The raised helm station has two entrances, one on the port side for the crew and one on the starboard side for the owner. Completing this area are the leather pilot seat custom designed by Poltrona Frau and a custom sofa with a small table in front of it.

Hull one has the option of four 24-inch touchscreen displays, an upgrade from the standard three (two 24-inch and one 16-inch), while the flybridge helm is fitted with two 16-inch touchscreen monitors, with only one in the standard version. The yacht is equipped with the integrated LOOP system from Naviop-Simrad, which controls the main propulsion, navigation, monitoring and home automation functions using the same interface, simplifying yacht management and navigation.

In the owner’s suite, the TV is concealed in the mirrored wall

Forward on the main deck, the owner’s suite has a spacious walk-in wardrobe with a small sofa. The double bed has a sepia-coloured nubuck base, while the cream-coloured bed linen by Gentili Mosconi is personalised for Ferretti Yachts. The TV is hidden behind the mirrored wall opposite the bed. Completing the furnishings is a Minotti armchair at the marble vanity top with drawer.

The suite’s parquet floor continues seamlessly into the generous full-beam bathroom, which is accessed through two smoked glass doors. Combining marble and wood, the bathroom has twin marble washbasins fully integrated into the same unit, while on the right is a large shower complete with a bench fitted with a marble top.

The lower-deck lobby leads to four en-suite guest cabins

The architectural design of the parquet staircase connecting the main deck with the lower deck is accented by LED lighting. At the bottom of the staircase is a lobby fitted with a big cupboard that can be used for bed linen and towels or a refrigerator reserved for guest use.

This space provides access to four twin double cabins. They all have en-suite bathrooms and the same generous dimensions. The two forward cabins can have either two double beds or four single beds that can be separated: this double configuration provides maximum functionality to satisfy the needs of every owner. Like the owner’s suite, they are all fitted with a mirror TV.

The cabins illustrate the Classic interior with soft colour tones

The crew quarters in the bow feature a dinette with an extending table, a captain’s cabin and two double cabins for five crew.

The standard version of the Ferretti Yachts 1000 offers 2,217mhp MTU 16V 2000 M86 engines for a top speed of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots (preliminary data), while gyroscopic stabilisation combined with stabiliser fins can also be fitted on request.

The Gran Turismo 45 is Beneteau’s flagship express cruiser

Following in the wake of the Gran Turismo 32, 36 and more recently the 41, Beneteau is scheduled to unveil its GT45 in September. The upcoming flagship of the French builder’s express cruiser range features large windows, a flexible aft sundeck, a covered lounge and wet bar, and a foredeck with canopy, all focused on an indoor-outdoor experience.

The 14.78m yacht has sleek lines, a sporty hull and elegant details such as the ‘fashion plates’ on the sides of the hardtop and on the engine air intakes.

The aft double sunpad conceals the tender garage

The Air Step® hull is powered by either twin 380hp or 440hp Volvo D6 inboards. At low speeds, the boat can be steered using the joystick, while the optional bow thruster giving you fingertip control over in-harbour manoeuvres and berthing operations.

“The development of the Gran Turismo 45 was driven by a desire to offer the same sailing qualities as the GT46 while rethinking the boat’s highly successful dynamic design to provide even greater comfort and practicality,” said the Beneteau Product Manager in charge of the project.

The flip-up barbecue under the sunpad

“The Gran Turismo 45 boasts a range of sophisticated technical solutions designed to make life easier for passengers, and that can be adapted in a flash to fit their needs and expectations at any time and in any weather.”

Aft is a large hydraulically-controlled bathing platform and a comfortable sun pad for two, as well as a tender garage with electric door. The boat also includes an electric winch, making it easy to recover the tender back on board.

The foredeck can be covered by a canopy

The garage can also be used as storage space. Another clever functionality is the discreet electric grill housed in the extension of the sun deck, ideal for alfresco dining.

The foredeck houses a second integrated sun pad with comfortable deck-level cushions. Several optional features include flip-up headrests, canopy and courtesy lights.

The cockpit has C-shaped seating to starboard and an adjustable table

In the covered area, the indoor-outdoor experience is enhanced by the sunroof in the new electric hard-top, a standard feature with optional glass panel that floods the interior with light.

The superstructure has been redesigned to include much larger side windows, with the starboard side electric window hinging up into the hardtop.

The wet bar is to port, opposite the seating area

The cockpit features a C-shaped lounge facing the wet bar that features a sink, fridge and ice-maker, and conceals a retractable TV that can be raised for use. Among options is a patio door that protects occupants from bad weather.

The lower deck features grey walnut and white lacquered joinery characteristic of the new Gran Turismo generation of Express Cruisers. Steps lead down to a lower saloon filled with light from the large hull windows.

To port is a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher and numerous storage areas, while starboard is a C-shaped sofa and table. As an option, the seating area can be replaced by a third cabin with two single berths.

“The relaxing yet stylish interior layout and design of the Gran Turismo 45 is an invitation to prolong the onboard experience and indulge in a cruise,” says the Product Manager.

“We have taken particular care over the design of the boat’s functional aspects, especially in terms of the galley area, which offers facilities similar to that of a domestic kitchen, and the extremely comfortable cabins.”

The full-beam master cabin is midships

Midships, the full-beam owner’s cabin has a forward-facing double bed, large side windows and an en-suite to starboard with separate shower cubicle.

The VIP cabin in the bow is fitted with scissor berths that guests can arrange as a double bed or two singles. This cabin also has access to the forward head and shower area, which can be accessed via the saloon.

The Gran Turismo 45 carries high-tech equipment for easy living and to control of all the boat’s essential systems, while the optional Ship Control® technology electronics pack acts as an onboard assistant.

A tap on the navigation screen, smartphone or Wi-Fi enabled tablet lets you control functions such as air-conditioning, zone lighting, music, battery power management and bilge pumps. Ship Control® also provides the pilot with technical engine data such as fluid temperatures.

CLX96 close to completion

CLX96 close to completion

CL Yachts announces that its CLX96 is set for a July launch before the exciting new flagship makes its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale show in late October.

The CLX96 nears completion at CL Yachts

The first CLX96 from CL Yachts is entering the final stages of construction as it nears its expected launch date in July, before later heading to the US for its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 27-31). Billed as a ‘Sea Activity Vessel’ (SAV), the superyacht’s design was profiled in Yacht Style Issue 57 (Jan-Feb 2021).

CL Yachts pushes envelope with CLX96

The Hong Kong-headquartered builder is scheduled to launch the Jozeph Forakis-designed Sea Activity Vessel (SAV) in the third quarter of 2021.

The completion of the first CLX96 will be a landmark moment for CL Yachts, as the model embodies a new direction for the family-owned company.

Martin Lo, Director of CL Yachts, said: “CLX96 showcases the expert knowhow of CL Yachts and represents our brand value. To be competitive in today’s market, you need to be daring and we believe that the CLX96 is a bold challenge of the status quo in its category.”

Even before its launch, CLX96 has already received recognition, winning a Good Design Award and Bronze A’ Design Award, and was shortlisted by the International Yacht & Aviation Awards for its interior and exterior design.

The SAV has been created from the ground-up in collaboration with international designer Jozeph Forakis, with structural engineering from Albert Horsmon and naval architecture from Earl Alfaro.

The yacht’s original design includes a ‘workboat chic’ two-level, reverse-angle deckhouse using inverted trapezoids that increase space as well as reduce glare and heat. The plumb bow further amplifies accommodation, while also increasing hydrodynamic efficiency.

The aft section of hull one

The main deck’s vast windows and bi-fold doors are echoed in the flybridge’s spectacular glazing with retractable windows on three sides, leading guests from the sky lounge and pilothouse to the sky deck alfresco dining area aft.

Other unique exterior social zones include the ‘Terrazza Portoghese’ forward of the sky lounge, the ‘Piazza del Sole’ seating and sunning area on the foredeck, and the expansive stern beach club at the waterline with its hydraulically-submerging swim platform.

CLX96’s RINA-classified FRP composite hull draws on CL Yachts’ experience in fibreglass construction, with a completely new mould created for the SAV.

Having been among pioneers in the use of fibreglass for boat building in the 1960s, CL Yachts assisted Lloyd’s Register in developing the guidelines for its use, creating quality standards that form the basis of rules still used today by classification societies.

Profile of the plumb bow and reverse-angled deckhouse

CL Yachts believes in smart engineering with an ethos of ‘strategic optimisation’ for increased stiffness and lightness, so its vessels can sail further and faster. This approach results in a considered combination of composite materials that enhances the performance and comfort of a vessel, using fiberglass, E-glass and carbon-fibre.

The Terrazza Portoghese is forward of the pilothouse on the flybridge

With over six decades’ experience of building in composite materials and by choosing leading structural engineering partners, CL Yachts has an innate understanding of how to create robust and reliable vessels, instilling confidence when navigating in even the toughest of conditions.

Using Finite Element Analysis, the company can provide some of the highest strength-to-weight ratios for full construction in the production yacht industry. Combining this high strength, stiffness, optimum weight control and seaworthy hulls, CL Yachts delivers performance, comfort and efficiency throughout the entire speed range.

The foredeck or ‘Piazza del Sole’

In keeping with CL Yachts’ reputation for dependability and practicality, all technical plans for CLX96 have been laid out in a clean, serviceable manner.

CLX96 offers a predicted top speed of 27 knots and cruising speed of 22 knots, powered by twin Caterpillar C32 engines, alongside the seaworthiness that CL Yachts’ parent company is renowned for.

The flexible Piazza del Sole on the foredeck is a signature exterior space

“CLX96 SAV is the crossover yacht that meets the needs of today’s owners head-on. You get a good range, excellent top and cruising speeds, plenty of space and the possibility to enjoy mini expeditions to wherever your heart desires,” says Lo.

“We are excited to see hull one of this series completed soon to show what CL Yachts can achieve with this remarkable package.”

The interior is focused on “simplicity and enjoyment”

The interior is designed to be “reminiscent of a time when yachting was about simplicity and enjoyment rather than an attempt to bring a lavish, land-based home to the water”. The relaxed, open-plan main deck interior features a convivial galley with sit-up bar and a bank of sofas, as well as a lounge and dining area that feel inviting and fresh.

The four guest cabins – plus two for crew – on the lower deck are spacious and bright thanks to large windows and high ceilings. The master suite’s real skylight is paralleled by the VIP suite’s virtual skylight, which receives a feed from an on-deck camera to a display screen embedded above the VIP king-size bed.

A bar, open galley and second lounge are forward

“Rather than being flashy and obvious, the SAV will appeal to understated and discerning buyers who appreciate the essence of a well-designed vessel that offers beauty from within as well as from the outside,” Lo said.

“CLX96 represents an effortless luxury that can only be provided by a space that is well laid out and organised. This is a yacht with substance, heart and soul built into it. It’s not just another pretty boat.

The master suite is among four large guest cabins

“To us, it’s the very definition of a modern explorer – both physically and spiritually – in the sense that it allows you to experience new things, taking you on a journey of self-exploration. We want to return the romance of yachting to today’s owners, who are educated and demanding.”

CL Yachts’ current models also include CLA76, CLB72 and CLB88, while the builder recently announced a new CLB65.

Stella M left the Damen Yachting yard in Vlissingen

Stella M has become the first Amels 200 Limited Editions design to be delivered, recently departing the Damen Yachting Vlissingen City shipyard in the Netherlands for a busy summer season cruising the Mediterranean. Her sale was announced at the end of 2019 and she was launched earlier this year.

Captain Spyros Karalis has been at the shipyard for the best part of a year as part of the team overseeing the build and final outfitting on behalf of the owner.

“This summer season is going to be very full-on,” Karalis said. “We have plans to cruise the whole Mediterranean starting from Spain and then up to Greece, with France, Italy and all the other islands in between. I am very much looking forward to getting her out on the ocean and welcoming the owner on board for all the adventures that lie ahead.”

Stella M was the first of two Amels 200 hulls to launch earlier this year

Stella M features custom interiors by Reymond Langton, while her 60m design is an evolution of the Amels 188 designed by Tim Heywood. Like her predecessor, the 1,015GT Amels 200 features hybrid electrical power technology, a four-deck elevator and air-conditioned gym on the sun deck.

Jorrit Pilaar, Amels and Damen Yachting Sales Manager, said: “We are very proud to hand Stella M over to her owner. It has been a very intense project in challenging times, but her delivery, on-time and on-budget, really comes down to the great collaboration between all parties involved. We wish her owner and crew all the best and look forward to seeing Stella M across the Med this summer.”

The owner was represented by Burgess in the sale. Richard Lambert, Senior Partner – Head of Sales at Burgess Monaco, said: “We would like to congratulate Amels and Damen Yachting on the successful completion of this prestigious yacht during these unprecedented times and we are delighted that our client has taken delivery ahead of the Mediterranean summer season.”
