Last week at the Cannes Yachting Festival, renowned Italian shipyard, Cantieri di Pisa, announced a substantial €27 million order book for 2024, marking impressive growth since its acquisition by new ownership in 2021, and unveiled a newly-revived Akhir line.

During a press conference at the Cannes show, the shipyard charted how sales had steadily risen from €3 million in sales in 2021, to €3.5 million in 2022 and €4 million in 2023, making projected figures for 2024 – with €27 million in orders – quite the leap. Of this, €17 million is in new builds and €10 million in refits. This growth well underscores the company’s rising prominence within the luxury-yacht sector.

Since 2021, Cantieri di Pisa has invested €6 million in expanding and modernising its facilities. The shipyard now boasts an impressive 50,000 sqm of total area, with 24,000 sqm dedicated to refits.

The upgraded facility features six construction slots capable of accommodating yachts up to 56m, positioning the company well to meet the growing demand for larger luxury vessels.

At the Cannes show, Cantieri di Pisa also unveiled its new-look Akhir line, designed by architect-designer Antonio Luxardo, co-founder of Optima Design and appointed the shipyard’s chief designer earlier this year. This new range will blend tradition with innovation, retaining the line’s iconic features such as sleek deckhouse lines and the distinctive “shark-like” bow form.

The Akhir line introduces cutting-edge EHPH Power Fin hull technology, promising enhanced performance and efficiency. The first model in this line, the Akhir 44 model will showcase a state-of-the-art vacuum-moulded carbon-fibre composite hull and superstructure.

Cantieri di Pisa also shared news that it has two new boats in production. The 80 Veloce, an upcoming 24m carbon-fibre yacht due to launch in six months, is designed to reach 60 knots. This will be followed by a 37.5m technological explorer with a steel hull and composite superstructure developed by Cantieri di Pisa’s Custom Division with design and engineering by Marcelo Penna Engineering, and is scheduled for launch in summer 2026.

Sunreef Yachts, the renowned Polish catamaran builder, debuted its latest masterpiece at the Cannes Yachting Festival: the 100 Sunreef Power luxury catamaran – it’s jaw-dropping.

Sunreef debuted its 100 Sunreef Power luxury catamaran at Cannes

The 100 Sunreef Power marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into the superyacht sector, offering a remarkable blend of space, luxury, and performance.

The super catamaran is an ideal craft for extended cruises in luxury

The 100 Sunreef Power showcases a vast main saloon that integrates the yacht’s expansive deck spaces, creating a harmonious flow between indoor and outdoor areas. The master suite comes complete with direct access to the bow terrace – and ocean views. Five additional guest staterooms ensure ample accommodation for family and friends.

The yacht’s main deck, an airy space to relax with a bar and a large TV, leads to an open cockpit

One of the yacht’s most notable features is a partially enclosed flybridge, which houses a custom cigar lounge and 85-inch television. The 16m-wide walkaround beach club is another highlight, featuring foldout platforms and an invisible aft garage that provides easy access to water toys and diving equipment.

Interiors are dressed with elegant marine décor

Powered by twin 1,300hp engines, the 100 Sunreef Power delivers reliable performance and an extended cruising range. The yacht’s catamaran design ensures smooth motion at sea, enhancing comfort during long voyages.

Take in blue skies and sea views from the master suite which has private bow terrace access

60 Power Eco also makes a splash

In addition to the 100 Sunreef Power, the company also premiered the all-electric 60 Power Eco at Cannes. Like earlier Eco models, this smaller addition to the Eco range also offers the shipyard’s innovative solar power system with photovoltaic cells integrated into its hulls, superstructure, and flybridge hard top. This green-energy solution powers both the yacht’s propulsion and onboard appliances, offering a glimpse into the future of eco-friendly luxury yachting.

An exciting addition to the Ultima line

Sunreef Yachts also revealed plans for its flagship model in the Ultima catamaran range, the Ultima 111. This 33.8m yacht will be designed in collaboration with Dutch design agency Phathom Studio and built at the company’s facility in Ras al Khaimah, UAE.

Italian luxury yacht brand Azimut and Swedish propulsion producer Volvo Penta collaborate to advance hybridisation and electrification in leisure craft unveiled this week

At the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024, Azimut and Volvo Penta this week introduced the world’s first yacht to combine Volvo Penta IPS with hybrid power. The new 21.88m (71ft 9in) Seadeck 7 is equipped with Volvo Penta’s helm-to-propeller hybrid-electric package, piloted for the first time in collaboration with Azimut.

Azimut and Volvo Penta at Cannes with Sundeck 7 Azimut and Volvo Penta at Cannes collaborate with Sundeck 7

The Azimut Seadeck 7 cuts a sleek profile and performs with reduced decibels and emissions thanks to its design, hybrid tech and materials used

The Seadeck 7 is the world’s first yacht to combine hybrid power with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, based on revolutionary Volvo Penta hybrid-electric pilot technology. For the first time, a yacht combines diesel engines, electric motors, and batteries with the efficiency of Volvo Penta IPS drives, allowing hybrid operation without a generator. The Seadeck 7 can cruise in pure electric mode up to 11 knots and stay at anchor with zero emissions for up to 12 hours, aiming to significantly enhance onboard comfort and sustainability.

“When it comes to reducing CO2 emissions, our approach is aimed at generating tangible results now, also by developing new solutions that we are already implementing at a prototype stage, said Giovanna Vitelli, Chair Azimut-Benetti Group. “Boats under 24m are the most prevalent in our waters, therefore making a difference in this segment of vessels means making a difference for many owners. The Volvo Penta hybrid-electric package installed on the Seadeck 7 has a mode similar to that of cars – meaning it shifts from electric to diesel engine based on speed. It guarantees simplicity of use, reduced consumption and CO2 emissions, and improved life on board. Everything is in place to change the rules of the game.”

In this pilot project, Volvo Penta introduces a fully integrated hybrid-electric package, from helm to propeller, ensuring seamless operation and power management on the Seadeck 7. This system, a pilot of Volvo Penta’s recently announced D13 IPS hybrid-electric package, guarantees smooth transitions between power modes, enhancing performance, efficiency, and ease of use. Features include near-silent cruising at low speeds, silent nights onboard using batteries, and Joystick Docking in Electric Mode for smooth docking and departure. The system also facilitates access to emission-free zones, allowing closer encounters with nature.

Compared to traditional planing yachts with an inboard shaft line and a similar size, the Seadeck 7’s tech package, extensive use of up to 40 per cent carbon fibre, and enhanced hull design efficiency can allow for a reduction of up to 40 per cent of CO2 emissions in a typical year of use.

This collaboration with Volvo Penta and Azimut-Benetti R&D Department aims to refine the hybrid-electric experience. The Seadeck 7, equipped with the hybrid-electric package, introduces new electric and hybrid drive modes, supported by advanced engine monitoring and Volvo Penta’s global service network.

“Our collaboration with Azimut reflects our shared vision to push boundaries and elevate the boating experience through technological innovation and enhanced design,” said Johan Inden, President of the Marine Business at Volvo Penta. “It is designed to ensure an easy and intuitive experience for owners and captains.”

The Seadeck 7 features a twin Volvo Penta D13 IPS 1350 Hybrid package, paired with a 160kW electric motor, ensuring powerful performance when necessary, maneuverability, quiet cruising and efficiency. The electric motor and diesel engine work in parallel, allowing seamless transitions and efficient operation.

Azimut and Volvo Penta at Cannes with Sundeck 7 Azimut and Volvo Penta at Cannes collaborate with Sundeck 7

The Volvo Penta IPS 1350 Hybrid used in the pilot Azimut Seadeck 7

The Seadeck 7, part of Azimut’s first hybrid series, features a reconfigured open cockpit and sea-level outdoor lounge for enhanced water contact, called the Fun Island. By combining weight reduction in the deck and superstructure – including more carbon fibre, and Volvo Penta’s hybrid-electric system, the Seadeck 7 enhances comfort and space. It has obtained the Rina Green Plus Platinum certification.

The hybrid-electric package offers four navigation options: Pure Electric mode for zero-emission sailing up to 11 knots, Hybrid Standard: switching from electric to diesel, Hybrid Boost: for enhanced acceleration, and the upcoming Cross-over mode. In Hotel mode, the batteries power all services for up to 12 hours in silence and without CO2 emissions, eliminating the need for a traditional generator.

The hybrid experience offers smooth cruising, an electric boost in acceleration, and excellent driveline response; the package also features Joystick Docking in Pure Electric mode, which is smooth and responsive. The extensive battery bank supports off-grid living and quiet electric cruising at low speeds allows closer proximity to nature and access to protected areas. During nights at anchor, the system enables silent, comfortable off-grid mooring, with batteries recharged during the voyage or while docking.

This pilot project aims to demonstrate reliability and outstanding performance as the package is targeted to become integral to the Azimut Seadeck series, offering a market-defining hybrid-electric experience.

The Seadeck 7 is available for pre-order, with delivery starting in 2026, and is currently on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival until Sunday September 15, 2024.

During this Cannes Yachting Festival 2024, and the weekend preceding it, in Monaco, Italy’s Ferretti Group has been showing a wide model range from its yacht brands – including several premieres, declared record sales, and even held a private concert with a pop-music megastar

Ferretti shows wallywhy100 for the first time, among its six world premieres unveiled at Cannes

This week at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Ferretti Group – always one of the largest displays at the event – shows a fleet of 21 yachts across its Italian brands, which includes six world premieres. These first showings comprise: the Custom Line Navetta 38, Ferretti Yachts INFYNITO 80, Ferretti Yachts 670, Pershing GTX80, Riva El-Iseo, wallywhy100 and wallypower50.

The Custom Line Navetta 38 is a custom-built yacht with extendible beach club

With record sales in 2024 recently declared across brands, Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi declared in Cannes that the group will focus more on meeting the growing demand for increasingly large yachts with more custom-made elements. He added, “With the new [Ferretti Group] acquisitions and [our] expansion of shipyards we can realise every dream.”

Smart tech and design combine in the sustainability-focused INFYNITO 80, which stores solar energy and features an iconic covered terrace

Galassi noted the Group’s proactive investment in expansion for the first six months of 2024 had amounted to €77 million, with a year-on-year 10 per cent increase in production numbers.

Super-fast luxury motor yacht Pershing GTX80 has a 23sqm sundeck made of carbon fibre

Net revenues for new yachts in the same period were €611 million, up 7.7 per cent.

The Group plans more than 25 new model launches across its brands from 2024 to 2026; and 2025 will see several of these appear.

The new Group Chairman of the Board of Directors was also mentioned by Galassi this week: Jiang Kui follows the resignation of Director, Tan Xuguang, who retired on August 29, 2024.

Before Cannes Yachting Festival began, the annual Ferretti Group “Private Preview” was held on Saturday September 7, organised with the Yacht Club de Monaco, combining yachting, music, gourmet food and glamour.

UK singer Robbie Williams entertained guests from a stage suspended above water

The star of the show this year was UK-born pop megastar Robbie Williams, who performed a private concert entitled “Rock DJ” to entertain the VIP audience of guests who sang and danced along to hits performed on a stage suspended over the water, surrounded by the magnificent yachts owned by the many of those who came to enjoy the show.

The event was also attended by HRH Prince Albert of Monaco, champion Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, fashion designer Domenico Dolce, actor Pierfrancesco Favino, and 600-plus owners from all over the world.

Dinner was prepared by a team helmed by Antonio Mellino, a chef who recently won his third Michelin star.

Ferretti Group presented 37 yachts at the “Private Preview”, which included the Cannes Yachting Festival premieres.

The French yacht manufacturer arrived in Cannes with almost its full line-up of yachts, gave glimpses of three new models and announced equally impressive financial results.

Fountaine Pajot Group Cannes 2024 New 41 Fountaine Pajot Group Dufour 48 Fountaine Pajot Group Code 07 Fountaine Pajot Group Thíra 80The Group announced a new catamaran, known only as “New 41”

Fountaine Pajot Group has wrapped up a banner year, posting business volumes exceeding €300 million for 2023/2024. The group’s trio of brands – Fountaine Pajot Sailing Catamarans, Dufour, and Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts – have all contributed to the performance.

Fountaine Pajot Sailing Catamarans delivered its third Thíra 80 in August and launched nearly 500 Isla 40s. Dufour celebrated its 60th anniversary in style, with the Dufour 41 snagging award nominations for best US Sail magazine’s Best Boat award and the British Yachting Awards, and also winning an award for its design previously at last year’s Genoa Boat Show.

Meanwhile, Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts doubled sales, thanks to increased production at its Gujan-Mestras site.

The group has also taken direct control of its US operations to strengthen relationships with American clients, a key market, and now looks to expand distribution in other regions. In more expansion news, The Group said work was already underway to increase the size of its historic Fountaine Pajot and Dufour manufacturing sites to about 15,000sqm, with the work completing by 2025.

The group teased three new models.

The first reveal was a new 41ft catamaran referred to as the New 41, which marks the first in a new generation of designs that will be rolled out over the next two years. The brand said the New 41 will reflect its commitment to innovation and eco-responsibility even as it maintains competitive pricing. It will receive its world premiere at Cannes and the Annapolis boat shows in 2025.

Dufour 48

Second up came the announcement of the Dufour 48, scheduled to debut Spring 2025, as part of a comprehensive renewal of the brand’s core range.

And in another significant development, Fountaine Pajot has announced a new collaborative brand with boatbuilder Couach. The partnership will introduce a new model, the Code 07, a new power catamaran, which aims for international reach with a focus on the US market, and will draw on Pajot Motor Yachts’ 30 years of expertise alongside Couach’s industrial knowledge. Further details are to be revealed at the 2025 Miami Boat Show.

Still at Cannes, almost all of the vessels from the Group’s three ranges, Fountaine Pajot Sailing Catamarans, Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts and Dufour Yachts, are on show, with 13 vessels occupying over 1,000sqm of stand space.

A highlight is undoubtedly Fountaine Pajot’s Thíra 80 flagship sailing catamaran, on display at Port Canto. The Thíra 80, which made its world premiere at last year’s Cannes festival, boasts the brand’s sleek lines and inverted bows, together with an innovative flybridge design that affords passengers panoramic views.

Fountaine Pajot also presented the Power 67 at Vieux Port, showcasing the motoryacht’s eco-friendly hybrid propulsion system, while Dufour made a strong impression with its latest offering, the Dufour 44 at Port Canto. Designed by naval architect Umberto Felci, the boat has captured attention – and awards nods – for its expansive cockpit layout and hexagonal table in the salon, which seats 10.

No need for a large crew or intense training sessions – this boat is all about making sailing as simple and fun as a day at the beach, whether sailing solo or with family.

Beneteau has once again teamed up with long-time First model collaborators, Slovenia-based manufacturers, Seascape, bringing together a world-class team of designers and engineers for the project.

While outstanding performance and extreme comfort were the primary focus so too was affordability. The First 30 will be available at a base price of 100,000 EUR (excluding VAT).

A sizeable cockpit makes handling all the easier

Comfort has not been forfeited. With a comfortable saloon with 1.85m headroom, a proper galley with a gimballed stove and fridge, smart storage solutions and ambient lighting for added cosiness, the First 30 intends to offer all the comfort of a fully-equipped cruiser.

Deck and cockpit layout will come in two themes: one for day sailors and cruisers, and another for racing enthusiasts. Both options will offer generous cockpit dimensions and precisely designed features like backrests and toe rails.

Main and jib sheets in the cruising layout will be controlled through generously sized winches, ensuring that sail trim doesn’t require superhuman strength — or a degree in rocket science. A mainsail traveller and some additional trim controls in the racing layout will feel familiar to racing sailors.

Interiors will include cork flooring for sustainability and some thoughtful inclusions like magnetic doors to make life easy at sea. An optional ‘premium pack’ will consist of high-quality upholstery, a saloon backrest, and atmospheric lighting, among other perks.

Beneteau First 30At (33ft, 11in) the new First 30 is designed for simplicity of use for experienced and novice sailors alike

With its blend of performance, comfort, and affordability, this 11.3m (33ft, 11in) two-cabin cruiser should attract a new slew of planing fans.

The First 30 is set to debut at Boot Dusseldorf in January 2025.

Bluegame BGM75 during Sanlorenzo Cannes UpdateMassimo Perotti has a lot to smile about, as he reveals Sanlorenzo revenues at Cannes

Massimo Perotti, Sanlorenzo’s Executive Chairman and CEO presented financial results for the first half of 2024 at the annual press conference held during the Cannes Yachting Festival.

The company posted robust financial results for the period:

Net Revenues: €415.1 million from new yacht sales, a 6.9 per cent increase from last year

EBITDA: Reached €74.2 million, growing by 9.7 per cent

Net Profit: Climbed to €43.6 million, up 11.6 per cent

Perotti outlined how Sanlorenzo has boosted its investments significantly. Net organic investments hit  €20.5 million in H1 2024, a 56 per cent rise from the previous year. Nearly 90 per cent of the funds are aimed at expanding production capabilities and innovating new yacht models.

It’s a strategic foresight meant to ensure Sanlorenzo remains at the forefront of yacht design and manufacturing.

Sailing towards sustainability

Recreational boating currently contributes about 0.22 per cent of maritime greenhouse gas emissions, but Sanlorenzo is set on charting its own course towards sustainability, ambitiously aiming to deliver the first carbon-neutral-powered yacht by 2030.

Its “Road to 2030” strategic plan places sustainability and innovation at the core of the company’s growth mission. The company has made strides to meet this plan’s targets by entering into strategic agreements with global leaders in energy and propulsion production. Names include Volvo Penta, Siemens Energy, and Rolls-Royce Solution GmbH – Global Marine (MTU).

Other milestone moments for Sanlorenzo sustainability this year included delivering the first unit of the 50Steel, the world’s first superyacht equipped with a green methanol Reformer FuelCell system – developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy – and launching the first chase boat powered by zero-emissions hydrogen.

The BGH-HSV (Hydrogen Support Vessel) is supporting team American Magic and the French Orient Express Racing Team in the 37th America’s Cup.

Hydrogen as a propulsion system remains quite the novelty with the yachting industry.

Strategic expansions: acquiring Nautor Swan

The company also made ripples when it acquired Nautor Swan, the group known for its luxury sailing yachts and high-end motoryachts, in August of this year, with the aim of creating a “unique global yachting hub,” that combines the best of motor- and sail yachting.

Nautor is active in the design, construction, sale and refit of luxury sailing yachts under the Swan, Maxi Swan, and ClubSwan brands, as well as motoryachts under the Shadow and Arrow brands, and is setting Sanlorenzo up to better serve an ultra-exclusive niche.

Sanlorenzo shows strong Cannes line-up

Aside from the financial update, Sanlorenzo is at Cannes to unveil two new models in world premieres, the SL86A and SP92, alongside some of the most representative yachts from Sanlorenzo’s various lines, including SP110, SL96A and SL120A.

The SL86A reimagines asymmetry in yacht design, boasting a full-beam master suite on the main deck and an expanded saloon. Its innovative port-side deck configuration maximises interior space without compromising elegance.

Meanwhile, the SP92 pushes the boundaries of performance and style. This Smart Performance vessel combines cutting-edge technology with Sanlorenzo’s signature minimalist aesthetic, featuring a customizable 45sqm beach area.

The new multihull features an ultra-efficient hull from Philippe Briand, a world-renowned expert in performance hulls. The catamaran also offers a reduced length-to-width ratio, which features a lower deck layout with four cabins and a full-beam owner’s cabin. It appears alongside the brand’s flagship models, BG74, BGX63, BG54, and BG42.

Greenline 40 embraces the future with 6G hybrid system

Greenline 40 embraces the future with 6G hybrid system

SHARE

Spacious and comfortable, the efficient yacht blends diesel and electric propulsion with integrated solar power.

The Greenline 40’s solar panels and batteries are part of the 6G hybrid system

The Greenline 40, with its 6G H-Drive system, represents a bold redefinition of modern boating. By blending diesel and electric propulsion with integrated solar power, the Greenline 40 has emerged as a versatile and efficient yacht, particularly favoured by those seeking a quieter on-water experience.

This model was designed with practicality and comfort in mind, which is evident in its spacious interior, smart layout, and ample features for long-term cruising. At 40ft in length, the yacht strikes a balance between manageable size and roomy accommodations. The exterior features Greenline’s signature super-displacement hull, engineered for maximum efficiency in the water. This design improves fuel economy while ensuring a smoother and more stable ride, making it well-suited for a range of conditions.

Additionally, the yacht is equipped with standard solar panels that generate 1.98kW, allowing for a daily charge of 10kW/h. This makes it possible to stay at anchor for up to two days without using a generator thanks to the LiPo batteries that are part of the hybrid system.

The layout of the Greenline 40 is designed for functionality and socialisation. The yacht’s aft galley is situated next to the cockpit, allowing for easy access to both the kitchen and the outdoor seating area. This arrangement transforms the cockpit into a natural extension of the indoor living space, perfect for dining or relaxing with guests.

The aft galley extends to the outdoor seating area for dining, relaxing and socialising

The Helmstand side door adds to the practicality, providing safer manoeuvring throughout the boat. Interior design is crafted with attention to detail. Below deck, the Greenline 40 offers comfortable sleeping accommodation with a spacious owner cabin and a well-appointed guest cabin. High-quality materials, including fine-grain wood cabinetry, contribute to a sense of warmth and luxury.

Owners can choose between different finishes – such as walnut, teak or silver oak – allowing them to personalise the space. The careful craftsmanship and build quality set the Greenline 40 apart from mass-produced yachts, with each vessel receiving individual attention during production. In the heart of this boat lies the 6G Hybrid system, which allows users to harness solar energy, shore power, and the yacht’s diesel engine for an unmatched eco-conscious experience.

Greenline’s hybrid system has been continuously refined since its debut in 2008, and allows boaters to navigate in near silence in electric mode while relying on diesel for higher speeds or extended range.

This sixth-generation H-Drive system exemplifies the marriage of electric and diesel power, enabling users to easily switch between modes based on their needs. For instance, at slower speeds, the electric drive can power the vessel for up to 20 nautical miles, which is ideal for coastal cruising or quiet anchorage.

Greenline’s approach to hybrid yachting merges comfort with environmental stewardship. Greenline 40 and its advanced 6G Hybrid system are leading the way in a new era of boating where efficiency, quiet operation, and energy autonomy are no longer optional – they are essential features for modern sailors.

This yacht allows its owners to experience the water in a way that blends performance with an innovative approach to power, making it a pioneer in the hybrid boating market. For those interested in experiencing the Greenline 40 firsthand in Asia, there is a demo model available for viewing and trials in the Malaysia/Singapore region. This is an excellent opportunity to see the yacht’s unique features and cutting-edge hybrid system in action.

At Cannes Yachting Festival, at the Greenline Yachts stand (number QSP 134, Vieux Port, Quai Saint-Pierre), Hakan Lange, the Asia Greenline dealer, and the team from Greenline are available to discuss and show their exciting boat range.
