Kudanil Explorer is among C&N’s charter CAs in Indonesia

Camper & Nicholsons has its Asia headquarters in Hong Kong, but the company’s central agency (CA) charter listings include a wide variety of superyachts across the region including the remarkable 50m Kudanil Explorer. Based in Indonesia, this heavy-duty ocean vessel built in Japan in 1978 underwent conversion into a charter yacht in 2018 – and what a remarkable conversion it was.

Kudanil Explorer’s upper-deck dining

Offering about 11,000sqft of living space, it’s the only charter yacht in Indonesia to offer a private balcony for each of its guest cabins. The eight roomy en-suite cabins each have a king-size bed and a balcony complete with a spacious daybed and coffee table set-up.

The yacht even has two dining areas or ‘restaurants’, while other facilities include a library, spa room, Jacuzzi and an armada of tenders and toys including diving equipment.

Each cabin has its own balcony

Kudanil Explorer has a boutique cruise ship feel and is ideal for cruising the calm waters of Indonesia,” says New Zealand-born Tracey Scaife, a Charter Marketing Manager for C&N.

With up to 21 crew, Kudanil Explorer is based in the Komodo region in the summer and Raja Ampat in the winter, available for an all-inclusive weekly rate of US$115,500.

LAMIMA

The 65.2m Lamima, the world’s largest wooden sailing yacht, has a similar sailing calendar and is available from US$154,000 per week.

Lamima is the world’s biggest charter phinisi

The biggest of all the charter phinisis that cruise the Indonesian archipelago, she was custom built in Sulawesi in 2012 and accommodates 14 guests in seven en-suite cabins.

Lamima features huge interior and exterior social spaces, a PADI dive centre, two large tenders, jet skis, paddleboards and kayaks. Her 20-strong crew have expert local knowledge and include a tour guide, two Indonesian chefs, PADI-certified dive instructors, two Balinese masseurs/spa therapists and a yoga instructor.

Gayle Patterson, Charter Marketing Manager, says: “Custom designed and hand built to highlight Indonesia’s marine diversity, Lamima combines traditional Indonesian hospitality with the modern superyacht experience.”

OCEAN EMERALD

In Thailand, Camper & Nicholsons’ charter yachts include the 41.3m Ocean Emerald, currently based in Phuket. The Lord Norman Foster-designed motor yacht has benefited from a 2019 refit and can welcome up to 10 guests in five cabins or there’s the option of combining two lower-deck rooms into a second master.

Ocean Emerald is one of Asia’s most distinct superyachts

Ocean Emerald’s versatile layout makes her perfect for relaxed family charters or high-energy party charters,” says Nicole Terry, C&N Charter Marketing Manager.

“She plans to be based in Phuket until March 2022 but as and when the sea borders allow, she will also consider charters in Malaysia as well as further destinations like the Maldives and Philippines on a case-by-case basis.”

Ocean Emerald is available at a standard weekly rate from €95,000 (about US$113,000) or, until the end of October, a special 10-day rate of €109,000 (about US$130,000), which represents a 20 per cent discount.

Fraser’s Thailand office flags up two distinct superyachts for charter from Phuket, both benefiting from extensive refits.

Camara C has completed a four-year refit

Fraser’s charter CAs based in Phuket include the 32m Camara C, a steel-hulled classic built by Yarrow & Co in Scotland in 1961 and a recent arrival in Thailand.

After chartering for over 30 years in the Mediterranean, the 105ft motor yacht recently completed a four-year refit and now features modern amenities, an inflatable swim platform and plenty of toys.

Camara C accommodates 12 guests in six cabins including a full-beam master suite forward on the main deck. On the lower deck, the five all-white en-suite cabins include a double and twin forward, while aft of the engine room are two doubles plus a VIP twin with queen-sized beds in the stern. There’s also accommodation for six crew.

The main deck has a cosy alfresco dining aft and a large saloon with sofas on three sides, while the flybridge has plenty of clear deck space, a large lounging area aft and a covered dining table midships.

As well as a tender, toys include diving, fishing and snorkelling equipment, two kayaks and a paddleboard. Summer weekly charter rates start from €44,500 (about US$53,000) plus APA.

DEMAREST

Fraser also represents the 32.2m Demarest, the former Aquarius S designed by Stefano Righini and built in Italy by Falcon in 2002.

Demarest has also had a recent refit

The 105-footer emerged from a refit in 2019 and started chartering in Phuket, with musician John Legend and model Chrissy Teigen among the first guests.

Popular features include a large jacuzzi – non-standard for this model – and covered dining area on the flybridge, while there’s also alfresco dining in the covered aft cockpit on the main deck. The interior has a saloon with seating on all four sides and a formal dining area beside a huge TV on the forward bulwark.

There’s accommodation for 10 guests in five cabins, as well as for five crew, while toys include a tender, jet-ski, wakeboard, waterskis, donut and two paddleboards. Summer weekly rates start from €50,000 (about US$59,000) plus APA.

“Just as Camara C is the quintessential gentleman’s yacht, Demarest is a modern superyacht designed to delight,” said Phuket-based Benjamin Tabuteau of Fraser.

Fraser, superyacht, sales, Yacht Style, Raphael Sauleau,

A total of 329 pre-owned superyachts were sold from January to May, significantly outperforming every previous year since 2009, Fraser revealed in its bimonthly contribution to Yacht Style.

Comparing the first five months of each year, pre-owned sales were up 141 per cent on 2020 and 129 per cent on the average for the last 12 years.

In addition, the total value of pre-owned sales was up 89 per cent on 2020 and 88 per cent on the 12-year average.

Raphael Sauleau, CEO of Fraser, said: “If last year saw a seismic shift in global demand for the ultimate safe escape to sea on board a yacht, that demand is growing stronger and faster than ever this year.”

As shown in the ‘By Size Segment’ graph, there was a particular surge in the 24-40m segment as more first-time buyers continued to discover the benefits of yachting.

“Fraser is proud to represent more sellers than any other provider this year, as well as securing the highest number of internal deals,” Sauleau added.

The MCY 105 Skylounge is designed by Nuvolari Lenard

Monte Carlo Yachts has unveiled the design of the MCY 105, the third model in its Skylounge Collection following enclosed-flybridge versions of the MCY 70 and MCY 76 released last year. The first MCY 105 Skylounge has been sold to a Hong Kong-based owner and is scheduled to be delivered early next summer, when initial plans include cruising around the Mediterranean.

The Skylounge edition of the Italian builder’s flagship model has been developed with Italian design studio Nuvolari Lenard following a lot of feedback from clients around the globe.

The yacht features a 43sqm enclosed flybridge

Sergio Loiacono, Monte Carlo Yachts’ Sales and Marketing Director, said: “MCY 105 Skylounge is the result of a continuous exchange of knowledge, opinions and experiences between the shipyard and the worldwide market. Thanks to a privileged relationship with our customers, we can work on exciting projects that allow us to push the bar higher and higher.

“Customers reach out to us looking for solutions they can’t find on the market. These are great occasions for Monte Carlo Yachts to truly innovate and propose something completely new and unique.”

DYNAMIC DUO

Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard, who boast an extensive expertise in designing megayachts, have designed each MCY model and developed the MCY 105 Skylounge, which features an enormous enclosed flybridge of over 43sqm (462sqft).

The enclosed upper deck features huge skylights

The upper deck features the sole helm station and a transparent ceiling, but otherwise owners can customise the area.

“The additional volume offered by the enclosed flybridge provides owners with unmatched levels of freedom, allowing them to customise the yacht according to their personal way of experiencing life at sea,” the design duo stated.

The saloon on the main deck

“It’s surprising to think that the whole area of the main deck, or the flybridge, can be destined to uses never imagined before, freeing the creativity and fulfilling the owners’ desires in terms of intended use of the space.”

For example, the flybridge can become a wide and comfortable saloon perfect for dining experiences in complete privacy, while the main deck can be transformed into a spectacular beach club, from the bow lounge to the remarkably spacious aft cockpit.

The master suite is on the main deck

The master suite is forward on the main deck with other guest cabins on the lower deck, while outdoor areas include the aft terrace overlooking the sea and the wide, versatile bow lounge with sun pads and dining tables.

“The Asian owner of this disruptive model chose the Italian shipyard for its capability to meet expectations in terms of customisation and delivery time,” the shipyard stated. “The need was to have a yacht that could be enjoyed not only in extreme climates, but everywhere, thanks to the numerous spacious exterior areas it displays.”

Azimut will stage the worldwide premieres of its flagship Grande Trideck, a new Magellano and two Flybridge models, while sister company Benetti will debut the Motopanfilo 37M.

Azimut will stage four world premieres at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, while Benetti will unveil the Motopanfilo 37M alongside the show debut of the hugely successful Oasis 40M.

Azimut’s display will be spearheaded by its flagship Grande Trideck, a 38m superyacht with an exterior design by Alberto Mancini, interiors by Achille Salvagni for the interiors and a second-generation D2P (Displacement to Planing) semi-planing hull by Pierluigi Ausonio.

The yacht’s signature feature is its sea view terrace, a 30sqm deck that sits aft of and above the private patio on the main deck while also covering much of the 30sqm beach club.

Azimut Magellano 66

Azimut will also stage the worldwide premiere of the Magellano 66, which joins a revitalised Magellano range spearheaded by the line’s flagship 25 Metri, which recently had its Asia-Pacific debut in Hong Kong after its worldwide premiere last year. The new 66’s spacious day zone is distributed over a single level, with vast windows creating a light-filled environment, while the large flybridge is the signature outside space.

Sanlorenzo, SD126, Yacht, Superyacht, Simpson Marine, Sale, SingaporeAzimut 68

The Azimut 68 and Azimut 53 are the brand’s other worldwide premieres. The 68 is the newest addition to the brand’s Flybridge Collection and features interiors by Salvagni and a dynamic exterior by Mancini, who also designed the exterior of the 53 launched this year and the 78 that debuted at Cannes in 2019.

The Azimut 53 (see Review in Issue 60) has an overall length of 55ft 1in (16.78m) and features Volvo’s IPS propulsion system, which reduces the size of the engine room and increases space for the lower-deck accommodation. The split-level interior starts with an aft galley before two steps lead to the saloon and helm station to starboard, while there are three guest cabins on the lower deck.

Sister company Benetti will stage the worldwide premiere of the Motopanfilo 37M, which was inspired by Benetti’s Navette from the 1960s and the creative expression of those years. The external lines are a collaboration between the shipyard and designer Francesco Struglia, while Lazzarini Pickering Architetti developed the interiors. The sale of the first hull was announced in July.

The shipyard’s display will also include the Cannes debut of the Oasis 40M (see Review, Issue 57), which was premiered at the Genoa International Boat Show last October. Featuring external lines by the English studio RWD and interiors designed by New York studio Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture, the yacht is noted for its huge beach club and waterside pool, and has already sold at least 15 units.

Marine Italia represents Azimut in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong province, Taiwan and Singapore, and recently helped Benetti sell an Oasis 40M to Singapore, the sixth sale into Asia-Pacific.

Silent 60 to premiere at Cannes

Built by PMG Shipyard in Thailand and in Italy, the Silent 60 ushers in the brand’s new range of solar-electric catamarans and will premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

The first Silent 60 was built at PMG Shipyard in Thailand

Silent-Yachts will stage the world premiere of the Silent 60 at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 7-12. The first unit was built at the PMG Shipyard in Rayong, Thailand, which produces the model, as do Silent’s facilities in Italy. As of June, eight more hulls were under construction among over a dozen orders, complemented by several orders for the Silent 62 3-Deck.

The Silent 60 has an overall length of 59ft and a beam of 29ft 6in. Hull one is being delivered to a German owner in Mallorca, where the boat will be available for charter.

It includes a 13sqm kite wing from Wingit, which has a 150m line and can pull the 30-tonne boat with about 4-5 knots, reducing consumption. The kite-sail system is stored in the bow and is an option on all new Silent models, which include the 80 and 80 3-deck.

Compared to the brand’s previous models, the Silent 60 has a new high-performance hull with a reverse bow, while details include long window stripes on the hulls and more window surface overall. The 42 solar panels on the roof of the superstructure and hardtop produce 17kWp, compared to 30 panels and 10.8kWp on the Silent 55.

Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent-Yachts, said: “The Silent 60 is the first of our new generation of solar-electric catamarans and many more will follow. We are happy to provide sustainable, emission-free solutions for yachting enthusiasts who want to make the world a better place.”

Social areas include the aft cockpit, 2.3m-high saloon, bow seating and flybridge. The Silent 60 offers flexible accommodation and the first unit has a spacious master suite and three more guest cabins.

The yacht has a draft of less than 1m and options include extending the two swim platforms by 90cm. In such a case, the boat can carry a pair of electric jet-skis, while additional water toys, SUPs, kayaks and e-bikes can be stored in the bridge deck.

A liftable hydraulic platform between the two swim platforms can also be enlarged from the standard 3.7m by 1.7m to 4m by 2.4m, able to carry a 4m tender up to 350kg.

The Silent 60 will debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival

The Silent 60 is equipped with the company’s aeration system, which provides cool, fresh air to all cabins, heads and the saloon, while a reverse-cycle heat-pump system can warm the interior. A water-maker powered by the solar-electric system and all on-board appliances operate on the 220/110-volt system. The galley has refrigerator and freezer space, and an induction cooktop.

The CE-A yacht can cruise for up to 100 miles a day and power all onboard systems without the need for fuel to power a generator. The yacht has a cruising speed of 6-8 knots and top speed of 20 knots.

Multihulls Special 2021: Kingship creates KingCAT powercats

Kingship Marine, one of Asia’s leading yacht builders, has developed a new line of power catamarans from the KingCAT 51 to the KingCAT 138.

The KingCAT 51 is the first of the KingCAT range to be built

Kingship Marine has developed a new line of power catamarans starting with the KingCAT 51 and including the KingCAT 85 and the enormously powerful KingCAT 138.

Founded in 2004 by Roger Liang and headquartered in Hong Kong, Kingship has a shipyard in nearby Zhongshan. One of Asia’s leading yacht builders and refit facilities, it has a strong background in superyachts, having built a range of models from 89-144ft including the in-build Grand Voyager 144.

More recently, the shipyard has also been building large, high-speed aluminium catamaran ferries such as the powerful 42m model that provides the underlying hull shape and platform for the KingCAT 138.

“Owners usually buy a new yacht for more space. A catamaran offers a good solution as it’s very stable and gains space by width instead of length. It’s the fastest growth sector for yachts under 100ft,” says Liang, who was involved in Italian shipyard Baglietto in the 1980s and Green Bay Marine in Singapore in the 1990s before creating Kingship.

The first KingCAT 51 is expected to debut in 2022

“The likes of Lagoon and Leopard did a great job of introducing catamarans to the recreational sector and we believe there’s huge potential market in emerging markets. Catamarans are also a great way to reduce your environmental footprint by simply choosing the right hull. And because they’re very efficient, they can be powered by hybrid propulsion.”

Kingship says it’s developing a range of layouts for the KingCAT 51 more suited to clients in Asia-Pacific and is targeting the likes of Greater China, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and other Pacific nations. Solar power and hybrid propulsion are among options on the 51, with the first unit expected to launch by the end of the year or early 2022.

“We see the 51 as a very suitable size for Asia,” Liang says. “The newer markets of Southeast Asia and China appreciate the space layout. It’s logical to trade the interior space of a monohull for the deck space of a cat as day boating is common here. The 51 can entertain over 20 people comfortably as it has four separate large areas, with an area devoted to karaoke.”

KINGSHIP’S BIG CATS

The KingCAT 85 and 138 are based on aluminium hulls and are able to be customised. In 2019, Kingship delivered a towering 78ft tri-deck powercat that has been used privately on a lake in China, but its KingCAT 85 is based on a sea-going hull by Canadian Ivan Erdevicki with an overall length of 85ft and a beam of almost 38ft. The yacht offers accommodation for 12 guests in five cabins.

“With the KingCAT 85, the aim is to have the biggest volume for a pleasure yacht categorised under 24m,” Liang says. The KingCAT 138 has a hull by Australian firm Incat Crowther and styling by Dutch firm Vripack, which has worked with Kingship on many of its previous superyacht designs.

“Because it’s built on a proven platform for fast ferries, the KingCAT 138 will be a unique, very fast yacht. It will be stable up to 40 knots, so suitable for a young billionaire in a hurry,” Liang smiles.

The Kingship CEO admits that the cruising catamaran sector is growing, in terms of owners and also builders and range of models on offer but is backing his company to make an impact.

Kingship’s KingCAT 138 features styling by Vripack and the platform of a 42m, 40-knot ferry

“By drawing on our commercial-ferry sector experience, we can provide proven world-class designs, the fastest build times, the most reliable boat, at a very reasonable price,” Liang says. “There are many great products on the market. The only way to differentiate is to offer something different and good value.”

The first Wally WHY200 is set to launch in July ahead of its world premiere debut at Cannes Yachting Festival.

Wally expects to launch the first WHY200 in July ahead of the model’s world premiere debut at Cannes Yachting Festivalin September and has released photos of the hull under construction. The 200GT Wally Hybrid Yacht is the first full wide-body by the innovative brand, which is part of Ferretti Group.

Designed to combine the comfort and space of a larger displacement yacht with the speed and performance of a semi-displacement, the yacht has been developed by the Wally design team led by Luca Bassani, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, Laurent Giles Naval Architects and A. Vallicelli & C for interior design.

Stefano de Vivo, Managing Director of Wally, said: “We are very proud of WHY200, a yacht that was a bit of a gamble but that today rewards us with a result that exceeds our wildest expectation. With its widebody design, this 200GT yacht offers far larger volumes compared to traditional motorboats plus a living space and stability that are definitely greater than any competitor’s.

“It essentially provides all the advantages of a catamaran but has none of the limitations, namely the lack of volume linked to the main central hull and mooring problems. WHY200 is a yacht that will stand out on the international scene both for the essential design that distinguishes Wally yachts, and for its innovative concept, which can offer a different sailing experience to the owner. It is the ideal yacht to freely and safely regain possession of one’s space with family and friends.”

WHY200 CARRIES ‘WOW’ FACTOR

Luca Bassani, Wally founder and Chief Designer, said: “Like all Wallys, which for 25 years have been ahead of their time and the setters of new standards in yachting design, the new compact superyacht WHY200 carries the ‘wow’ factor engraved in its DNA. The new WHY200 expresses all its innovative power through new architectural elements, which represent a break with the past and with the typical clichés of a motor yacht.

Ferretti Group made it possible to realise a concept that had been close to my heart for some time, believing in the success of a bold design that will improve the owner’s experience on board and represent a turning point in the motor yacht market.”

Wally, WHY200, Ferretti Group, Luca Bassani, Cannes, Yachting, Festival

WHY200 features a spectacular 4.7m-high glazed bow housing a stunning 37sqm master suite overlooking the sea, with a 270-degree view of the horizon. The eye-catching upper deck has a futuristic glass and carbon dome, a distinctive Wally feature reminiscent of the clean, angular look of the legendary Wallypower. The upper deck also an extended structural top with no supporting pillars.

The first unit, displaying an exclusive ‘Wally Silver’ colour, will feature a four-cabin layout: the master cabin with two separate bathrooms on the main deck, a VIP and two guest cabins on the lower deck.
