Giorgio Cassetta designed the exterior of Triumph

Benetti has shared more details about its 65m Triumph, built for an owner whose passions include Triumph motorcycles, with one even installed on the upper deck. The owner, who plans to spend long periods on board with family and friends, is a notable collector and Triumph also features a specially lit gallery of photographs by renowned artists.

Built on a proven platform, the yacht features five enclosed decks plus a sundeck and integrates ‘box-in-box’ construction technology for almost all the living areas to reduce noise and vibrations. The 214-footer has a range of over 4,700 miles at 12 knots and accommodation for 12 guests and 15 crew.

Triumph has six decks

The sleek exterior is by Cassetta Yacht Designers, while Benetti’s style department worked with the client on the layout, choice of materials, decor and furniture.

The owner chose Green & Mingarelli Design to handle the decorative aspects, with Triumph using exclusive materials like glass by Lalique, marble and fur, alongside elements of green design. Other materials include Crema Marfil, Statuary and Amani marble, and loom-woven silk and wool carpets.

Saloon on the main deck

The indoor and outdoor dining tables were designed specifically for Triumph. All the outdoor furniture is made of stainless steel, elegantly detailed with special corded rope producing an effect in line with the yacht’s contemporary style.

In terms of layout, the main deck features a generous lounge followed by a dining area that doubles up as a movie theatre, while there’s also a full-beam VIP suite.

A beautifully designed lobby

The upper deck has a spacious exterior dining area, complete with an American bar and a panoramic lounge that can also be used as a touch-and-go helipad if needed. There’s also a 1,400sqft (130sqm) master suite with an adjoining study/lounge and spacious outdoor terrace.

The bridge deck has an air-conditioned gym with 2.4m of headroom and a huge, lightweight , while the sundeck has lounge areas and a Jacuzzi.

The ‘beach area’ on the aft lower deck

The lower deck has a 750sqft (70sqm) beach area, two large garages plus guest and crew accommodation, while there’s also a tank deck.

Ferretti Group will showcase a Riva 100’ Corsaro, Pershing 8X and 9X, and the Gulf premiere of the Custom Line Navetta 30 at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show. The five-day show will be held from March 9-13 at Dubai Harbour, the largest marina in the Middle East and North Africa.

The 100’ Corsaro sits at the heart of Riva’s Flybridge range and had its world debut in Hong Kong in 2017. The 8X and 9X are the two biggest models in Pershing’s X Generation, a five-model series that starts with the 5X and was ‘concluded’ with the release of the 6X last year.

Ferretti Group is attending the show’s 28th edition show in partnership with Ocean360, the exclusive dealer for Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Riva and Itama in the UAE and Oman. Other Group partners at the event are Seabob, Dolce & Gabbana (official staff uniforms) and Slam (crew uniforms).

The world’s leading superyacht builders unveil new models and concepts at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show in Dubai Harbour.

Feadship’s Pure concept is controlled from a concealed Command Centre

Dutch yard Feadship is Supporting Sponsor of the Dubai International Boat Show and is among exhibitors who gather at a specially-designed section called Superyacht Avenue, not far from Supercar Promenade. Their presentation, honed from Monaco Yacht Show last year, involves a “future yacht”, an 81.75m vessel called Pure, that could be built today.

In it, Feadship outlines its evolving history in hybrid propulsion, leading to “the world’s first luxury motor yacht with hybrid power”, the 83m Savannah, in 2015.

So much else has happened since then, and Pure takes a deep dive down this path. Among hundreds of innovations, Pure has no conventional wheelhouse. The yacht is controlled from a concealed Command Centre, from where everything is simulated and displayed on screens.

“The information required to drive Pure will come from all kinds of sources, such as radar, AIS, maps, depth sounders and cameras strategically placed around the yacht,” said a spokesman.

Peter Lürssen uses the 98m Alice model to introduce emissions-free voyaging

It should be an interesting Captain’s Night this year, another feature at Dubai. Lürssen has likewise imagined a 98m yacht called Alice, whose advanced fuel cell technology will allow the vessel to slowly cruise a 1,000nm coastline, or spend 15 nights at anchor, emissions-free. Yard owner Peter Lürssen sees private motor yachts and commercial ships being emissions-free in the near future.

He describes the process as using hydrogen re-formed by methanol to produce a revolutionary fuel cell system. The waste is nothing more damaging than warm moist air. The new set-up replaces conventional diesel generators on board. For higher speed and energy demands, an additional methanol engine is added.

Another astonishing idea stems from owners who say they don’t really use the formal lounges and dining tables on the principal deck, preferring more casual upper deck facilities.

Lürssen is showing models of vessels launched last year, Ahpo, Nord and Moon Sand (pictured), the latter built for an experienced Asian owner

“Then why not re-think the principal deck altogether,” says Lürssen lead exterior designer Jim Sluijter, “opening it up to parks and ponds, and creating a unique ecosystem aboard.” Refer as well to Yacht Style Issue 63, available online at www.yachtstyle.co.

Damen Yachting is sending a senior management team to share latest designs from the Amels 60-120m range, as well as showing off its SeaXplorer and Yacht Support vessels, and refit capabilities. They are introducing a brand new design in the Yacht Support range, starting with a 53m vessel to be delivered in 2023.

“The YS 53 marks a significant shift in Damen Yachting’s strategy,” says Rob Luijendijk, Director of Sales and Product Management. “Over the last decade we have developed a very experienced Yacht Support team with a deep understanding of how to help our clients. We realised our new series needed to be not only highly flexible and customisable but also designed from scratch for the yachting market.”

Damen Yachting makes a shift in the design of its Yacht Support vessels with the new YS 53

Under 500GT, the YS 53 will carry 6-12 guests or up to 16 staff, plus captain and crew. The vessel features a huge 15-tonne deck crane and two Rolls Royce MTU main engines delivering a total 4,480kW (6,000hp) for a top speed of 19 knots. The vessel will also be IMO Tier III compliant, reducing harmful emissions by 70 per cent for full range operations.

Oceanco is among other leading Dutch yards taking part. Their 90m futuristic yacht called Kairos, designed with Pininfarina and Lateral Naval Architects, made its debut in Monaco and reappears in the Superyacht Avenue at the Dubai show. Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout says it “taps into latest developments in technical and propulsion systems, while reflecting how our experience of living spaces is changing”.

Oceanco’s 90m concept called Kairos also looks at technical and propulsion advances

Holland Yachting Industry, the trade group, consolidates a separate exhibit. From Italy, Ferretti Group has its CRN and Custom Line in the superyacht business, and Azimut-Benetti, whose vessels have plied Middle East, Indian Ocean and Asia-Pacific waters for many decades, are once more represented, as is Sanlorenzo, now standing out strongly in the global market.

Add Westport from America, Sunreef of Poland, Princess from Britain and Numarine ex-Turkey, and the choice for visitors is wide.

The Emirates’ own builder, Gulf Craft, has come a long way since its early days, and its increasingly larger superyachts in the Majesty range are selling well around the world. Home advantage is useful in Dubai, and visitors can make arrangements to tour the yard at Umm Al Quwain.

Gulf Craft’s four brands are Silvercraft, streamlined fishing and day boats that hark back to its origins, Oryx Sports Cruisers, Nomad long-range yachts and top-of-the-line Majesty Yachts.

A Majesty 120 will be displayed at the show. Apart from owners’ and VIP accommodation, this vessel unusually has five large guest staterooms designed asymmetrically, and the layout is worth a look. The best-selling Majesty 100, described by Gulf Craft as its “superstar”, is also being shown, along with the Majesty 62.

The show runs from March 9-13 and starts at 3pm each day, closing at 8pm on the first two days and the last night, and 9pm on the Friday and Saturday.

Dubai, which like other predominantly Muslim countries has a religious holiday on Fridays, announced last December that it would adopt a 4½ day working week from Monday-Friday, in common with

many countries with which it does business. Friday now ends at noon, and Saturday-Sunday is a free weekend.

In-water exhibitors present a wide range of medium to large motor yachts

Says the introduction to the event: “Dubai International Boat Show is the premier and most established boat show in the UAE, GCC and Middle East. Whether you want to buy a boat, discover luxury yachts and superyachts, explore the latest diving and aquatic innovations, or ride the sparkling waves, it’s the definitive event for luxury and lifestyle.”

Apart from sections already mentioned, there is a hard standing area as well as in-water exhibits, yachting conference, entertainment handled by Nikki Beach, a water sports village, fishing competition, marine art gallery, VIP Lounge, trade contacts at Equipment Supplies and Services, and other amenities such as a children’s playground. It’s also co-located with Dive MENA Expo, the only dedicated show for the UAE and GCC diving community.

In YACHT STYLE Issue 64, Fraser CEO Raphael Sauleau explains why he expects healthy activity in the 30-40m size sector to continue this year.

Following record superyacht sales in 2021, Fraser CEO Raphael Sauleau expects the market to continue to be strong this year, especially in the 30-40m sector, the key segment for new entry-level buyers.

“Last year saw a new record in yacht sales as the benefits of yachting became clearer than ever before. Sales increased across all size segments, but the smaller sizes experienced the most activity, which is to be expected as the sub-40m market accounts for an average of 70% of sales worldwide,” Sauleau wrote in Fraser’s contribution to YACHT STYLE Issue 64.

“Our brokers saw a 46% increase in sales in this segment and yachts were also selling faster, with Fraser’s listings selling twice as quickly as they did in 2019.”

Sauleau’s editorial mentioned the 60m-plus segment was also extremely healthy and that Fraser’s sales in this size range increased last year by 150% compared to 2020 and 2019.

“It is likely that all size ranges will continue to see healthy activity in 2022 providing the overall world economy remains stable,” he said. “However, prices are likely to increase due to the lack of inventory and the increase in prices of the new build market.”

New owner for Nobiskrug’s 77m Black Shark

New owner for Nobiskrug’s 77m Black Shark

The German superyacht builder has announced a new owner for the 77m Black Shark, marking the third order since the shipyard’s acquisition last summer.

The 77m Black Shark

Nobiskrug has announced that a new owner has signed for the 77m Black Shark, so construction will continue ahead of a scheduled delivery in summer 2023. Imperial is acting as the broker and owner’s representative of the five-deck superyacht, which will be completed in Nobiskrug’s 160m air-conditioned dry dock.

Philipp Maracke, Managing Director of Nobiskrug, said: “In intensive negotiations we prevailed against strong competitors and proved that we are the best partner for our customer. The fact that we were able to renew the contract for the construction of this outstanding ship makes me very proud on behalf of the employees of the shipyard.”

The contract marks the third order since the Rendsburg shipyard’s acquisition last year by the Tennor Group, with investor Lars Windhorst significantly involved in the negotiations for Black Shark.

The yacht’s dynamic, imposing exterior is by UK-based Winch Design, while Dutch studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design created the interior. Features include a matt-black hull, silver metallic superstructure, a distinctive reverse bow and a mast reminiscent of a shark’s fin.

Black Shark is being built in compliance with Red Ensign Group Yacht Code Part A and IMO Tier 3 regulations, which set strict emission limits.

The first Amels 60 has been moved out of the Damen Yachting dry dock in Vlissingen, launching “a new era” for the Limited Editions series.

The Amels 60 heads out of the shed in Vlissingen

The first Amels 60 has been moved out of the dry dock at Damen Yachting’s Vlissingen shipyard ahead of its official launch and delivery to “an experienced Amels client” this spring. The move represented the first time the 197ft, 830GT superyacht had been seen outside since arriving at the Vlissingen shipyard in July 2021.

Rose Damen, Managing Director of Damen Yachting, said: “A new era has dawned on our Amels Limited Editions. The proven platform and Amels pedigree our owners expect – shaped for the future. This is an incredible moment not only for the owner and his team but for everyone who has been involved in bringing the Amels 60 to life. The next generation starts here. A star has emerged.”

The Amels 60, which has already sold five units, features an exterior by Espen Øino and naval architecture by Damen Yachting. Customisations for hull one include an owner-specified colour scheme featuring a metallic Pebble Grey hull, along with a superstructure in Matterhorn White and Super Jet Black.

Project Manager Joppe Osté said: “She is a beautiful yacht and a wonderful first impression of the new Amels design. Her metallic hull is remarkable and it’s amazing to see how it works with the design, especially now that she is out in the daylight. It’s not just the exceptional colour, it’s the way it changes with the light and angle.”

The model features hybrid power and propulsion technology, while features include an owner’s suite balcony and space for a 9m luxury tender to be stowed on the foredeck. Hull one also features custom interiors by Winch Design inspired by a ‘home at the beach’.

Jim Dixon, Winch Design’s Director Yachts & Aviation, said: “The harmonious custom interiors capture the feel and style of a relaxed family home on the water, promoting a ‘calm atmosphere and involuntary relaxation’.

For the most part, we’ve used pure and natural materials to emphasise the relaxed ‘home at the beach’ spirit of the interior. However, we’ve also added layers of surface interest to materials such as stones and timbers to create unique and tactile finishes.”

The Amels 60 was introduced in 2019 and redefines the look of Damen Yachting’s successful Limited Editions range, while also representing a fresh challenge for Øino, who more often works on full custom projects.

“The Amels 60 is the first Limited Editions design we have been involved with and it has been a fascinating journey thus far. The design process is somewhat different, as one is designing not for an individual client but rather for a group of potential clients, so proper market research as to what this target group is looking for is fundamental for the success of the project as a whole,” Øino said.

“Considering five Amels 60s have already been sold prior to launching the first vessel, this is a testimony to Amels and their in-depth research from which the design found its inspiration. As a design studio, having worked mostly with custom designed yachts, we are very enthusiastic and proud to be part of this very exciting programme.”
