Explore the Mediterranean with Simpson Yacht Charter this summer on a Sanlorenzo yacht

With crystal blue waters, sun-baked coastlines and countries rich in history, ‘The Med’ is a popular charter destination for obvious reasons. Now the Paris Olympics is adding further interest to the area, and the Hong Kong-based charter operation steps in with new elevated itineraries in the region.

The Sanlorenzo SX88 Estia sets sail for Italy’s Amalfi Coast

Stretching from the Atlantic Ocean in the east all the way to Asia, and with a coastline of almost 30,000 miles, the Mediterranean contains both beautiful beaches and historic sites to explore.

With Paris at most a two-hour plane ride from many of the iconic destinations dotting the region, it’s easier than ever to enjoy a slow getaway on the rolling Mediterranean waves before – or after – the thrills and excitements of the world’s best-known sporting event.

Simpson Yacht Charter has curated special itineraries to coincide with The Olympic Games, can take care of flights to and from the French Capital and advises on embarkation and debarkation points.

Summer deals are available on five Sanlorenzo yachts, each with an array of water toys, from wakeboards to snorkel sets and seabobs for added summer fun. Included in the offer are trips aboard the Sanlorenzo SD118 Unique S, the SD112 Anything Goes V, the SD90 Akira, the SL86 Queen Martina, and the SX88 Estia yachts.

Life on board the Sanlorenzo SD112 Anything Goes V

One new destination includes tours of glitzy Monaco and the French Riviera, which begins at Nice, takes in Îles de Lerins near Cannes, St. Tropez and ends in Monaco’s Monte Carlo Beach.

A roundtrip option sets sail at Split in Croatia, makes island stops to view Roman and Venetian architecture, and islet sea stops for watersports, before heading back to Split – and a flight into Paris.

Another sails from Amalfi, through many of the location’s topspots, to Sicily’s Aeolian Islands. This itinerary sets sail at the Bay of Naples’ Marina di Stabia, and then ventures to Sorrento and star-studded Capri, including a stop at the spectacular sea cave Blue Grotto, before entering protected waters to sail to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and Panarea.

The Sanlorenzo SD118 Unique S has room for 10 guests

Each exciting trip includes plenty of sightseeing, and dining onshore at local restaurants, or on-board with private chefs.

With accommodation for 10 guests across five staterooms and six crew, the semi-displacement yacht, Sanlorenzo SD118 Unique S, is a sophisticated choice for a summer sailing with family and friends. Waterskis, skis, Seabob, kayaks and paddle boards offer exciting ways to explore the region’s world-famous coastlines up close.

The SD118 Unique S is a sophisticated choice for families this summer

Meanwhile on the Sanlorenzo SD112 Anything Goes V, two tenders and a 4.58m/15′ Castoldi Inboard are available to transport guests to cove or shore. They return to a well-appointed yacht with room to accommodate 10 guests in five plush staterooms. A guest favourite on this yacht is to recline and take in the sweeping vistas from the sundeck Jacuzzi, perhaps with a negroni in hand when sailing along the Amalfi coast.

Sanlorenzo SD112 Anything Goes V is available to charter across The Mediterranean this summer

Aboard the Sanlorenzo SD90 Akira, a brand-new yacht for charter, a re-designed bow area, main deck and owner’s cabins now provide an extra level of comfort on the water.

Available to charter for the first time this summer, the SD90 Akira

Up to eight guests in four ensuite cabins can enjoy a summer getaway on the Akira. Toys include a wakeboard, waterski, paddle board, Fliteboard, Seabob and use of a drone that can be used to record the trip from new angles.

Up to eight guests can enjoy the stately SL86 Queen Martina

Officina Italiana Design have imbued the SL86 Queen Martina with elegance and luxury. With a spacious flybridge – with 41 sqm extension and 9 sqm for sunbathing – and seamless indoor-outdoor connection, the stately yacht holds a resort-like character. Accommodating up to eight guests in four cabins, it’s an ideal option for family voyages.

Expansive views of Italy aboard the SX88 Estia

The Sanlorenzo SX88 Estia is a smart choice for those venturing to Italy. Crewed charters begin in Liguria and Tuscany and are available along the Italian Riviera, Corsica, Sardinia, Gulf of Naples, and the Amalfi Coast, as well as the Aeolians, Sicily, and Egadi Islands in southern Italy.

Delivered in 2022, the SX88 offers a professional three-person crew with a captain, deckhand and chef/hostess. A fast jet tender, jet ski, waterskis, two stand-up paddleboards, and more offer guests the opportunity to splash in Italian waves.

Azimut’s Seadeck Series gets tough on sustainability with gentle tech

The world’s first low-emission yachts offer a real reduction in environmental impact, with design, tech, and materials all geared towards cutting emissions.

Azimut has introduced its Seadeck Series of low-emission yachts

Italian shipyard Azimut has introduced the Seadeck 6, its debut offer in the Seadeck Series, the world’s first range of low-emission yachts.

The Seadeck Series prioritises sustainable materials

The Azimut yachts, which were officially presented at the Venice Boat Show 2024, combine 21st-century advancements and cutting-edge technology with a view to reducing environmental impact.

In fact, the Seadeck Series is said to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent compared to traditional yachts, thanks to innovative “gentle” technologies.

Messages may have long been delivered on ocean waves in bottles, but the Seadeck 6 turns this romantic lore into a viable new and sustainable future. Up to 30 per cent of the boat’s skeleton is made from rPET (recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate – a plastic made from repurposed waste), replacing environmental baddie PVC, and uses approximately 15,000 recovered plastic bottles to do so – a powerful message indeed.

The team at Azimut also replaced other traditional materials with natural or recycled alternatives, including cork decking over teak and more rPET, which can be recycled again and again, to create silk-like floor coverings on the lower deck.

Interior designers Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez emphasise warm, natural light

Weight reduction was a chief goal for the series, and is accomplished by combining efficient hull designs with electrification technology. Deckhouse, roof, wings, bathing platform and most of the main decks, from saloon amidships to the aft, are laminated with high-performance carbon fibre, made in-house, to optimise weight and reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Meanwhile, innovative architecture, also developed in-house by the Azimut|Benetti Group R&D team, maximises the Seadeck 6’s efficiency at cruising speeds. Its hull is wider at the stern and more streamlined at the bow, reducing drag and allowing for earlier hydroplaning.

Boats in the series look as sleek as ever. Designer Alberto Mancini has given exteriors a clean, modern look, while interior designers, Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez, created onboard environments intended to enhance the beauty found in oceanic surrounds.

A centrepiece is the yacht’s “Fun Island,” open-concept main deck that is exposed to the sea.

Warm, intimate light was another key, and the duo opted for long-lasting and scratch-resistant oak ribbing. The brise-soleil (solar shading) on the ceiling mirrors the ribbing’s rippling effects, and creates tranquil light patterns that dance and play.

The main deck offers an undisturbed connection between boat and sea

Talking of play, the Seadeck series is planned as a first hybrid-yacht solution for eco-aware families. The Seadeck 6 is 17.5m long, 5.05m wide and can accommodate six people in three guest cabins. A crew cabin is also included.

Volvo IPS engines enable speeds up to 33 knots and comfortable cruising at 24 knots, with a focus on efficient navigation thanks to a Mild Hybrid Zero Emission Hotel Mode system, which allows zero-emissions at anchor for up to eight hours and generator-off cruising to further cut emissions.

The Seadeck 6 is ready now to operate the full-hybrid system, while the Seadeck 7 will feature this solution from September of this year.

This series marks Azimut’s continued devotion to innovative solutions within the yachting world since its formation by Paolo Vitelli in 1966 and proves you can blend sleek with sustainable.

Yachting spotlight on Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s yachting communities and industries, as well as those from further afield with an interest in superyachts were drawn to talks, debates and networking in these fields in the city, in this first week of June.

Engaging panel discussions ran over two days at the inaugural Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit (photo: Superyacht Times)

What a week this is for boating in Hong Kong.

It kicked off on Monday evening with a full house for a Hong Kong Boating Industry Association (HKBIA) update meeting of its members and a guest speaker – Paul Zimmerman of Designing Hong Kong (a non-profit organisation that promotes sustainability and quality of life in the territory) – at a full events space the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC)

Then, from yesterday, the two-day Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit (APSS) took place, with some 150 guest speakers and industry attendees filling a function room at a five-star hotel on Hong Kong Island.

HKBIA agenda

Lawrence Chow (above right), the chair of HKBIA – which promotes the leisure marine industry and has three to four such meetings a year – confirmed that there is a Hong Kong Boat Show scheduled for late November-early December 2024, which will be preceded by a boating industry conference.

He briefly mentioned the perennial need for more berths and moorings in Hong Kong before he handed over to Zimmerman (above right) who spoke of the need to expand not only moorings but also storage facilities for smaller boats and marine toys. He noted that surf or paddle boards were too large for many people to store in homes. This is at odds with the territory possessing the longest coastline in any coastal city, he pointed out, before mentioning plans for marinas and moorings and where they are at — also advising that To Kwa Wan in Kowloon would be a great landing and mooring area but no such plans exist as yet.

Next up Alan Reid (above right) of Icomia (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) and Marine Manager at RHKYC spoke on the further sweeteners and action needed in decarbonisation in Hong Kong’s pleasure boat industry. Simple changes such as keeping hulls and propellers clean, along with more efficient hull designs, optimised weight, LPG engines and availability of and incentives for ‘clean non-fossil power’ (battery & hydrogen) were mentioned.

In Singapore, all harbour craft is to be decarbonised by 2050, he added – no such plans are yet tabled in Hong Kong.

Yachting, superyachts, Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit, Hong Kong, Hong Kong Boating Industry Association, HKBIA

Ewa Stachurska (above right), Vice President of Marketing, Strategic Partnerships and Business Development at Simpson Marine – the regional yacht distributor, services and charter company headquartered in Hong Kong – presented figures on how much leisure-yachting ownership and associated industries help economies they are in. When striving for community financial goals, she mentioned that in Italy, where the industry is widely developed, the figure is approximately US$1:9, for money spent on marine activities – meaning a factor of nine goes back into the wider economy.

She decried the mooring shortage regionally, explaining that with the rise in sales of boats across the seven countries in Asia where her company is operating, owners are faced with too few available berths.

Chow wrapped up by adding that in July a survey on boating improvements will go out to HKIBA members, to be completed by September, after which findings will be disclosed at the pre-Hong Kong Boat Show 2024 conference before being presented Icomia and to the Hong Kong Government.

It was a fine endorsement of Hong Long’s place in the world’s yachting – and specifically, superyachting sphere – that, spearheaded by the Dutch publication, Superyacht Times, the APSS (Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit) took place over two days.

As Yacht Style, a media partner of the event, and we publish this online article, we can reflect and show images from Day 1.

The Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association was a supporting partner of this event, largely held at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel by day (pictured above), where a roster of panel discussions spanned the topics of managing/operating yachts in APAC; building a charter fleet; developing the charter market; Dubai as a hub for superyachts; and selling superyachts in Asia – among others.

But just what makes this model the choice of royalty?

The Saxdor 400 GTO is the Finnish boatmaker’s flagship design, and features more of the innovative hallmarks that fans of the boatmaker have come to expect.

Modular and spacious – a nod to the “private island” concept that inspires its design – the 400 GTO certainly achieves an open-plan boating experience. An expansive open wheelhouse extends to the full beam of the boat for optimum living space and is fitted with stylish plush seating.

After a day’s sailing, guests are invited to drop anchor and lower down five-metre-long side terraces to trail their toes in ocean waves before, perhaps, venturing up to sunset drinks at a well-appointed bow seating area.

The Crown Prince will no doubt enjoy spending time with his guests on a full-sized sunpad on the aft deck and appreciate the generous boost to deck space allowed by twin cockpit balconies that extend halfway along the boat’s total length of just over 40ft.

Able to accommodate five guests comfortably, the cruiser features a forward double cabin with a separate bathroom, an additional mid cabin, and, tucked under companionway steps, room for an added children’s cabin.

Up to 42 knots can be achieved in the 400 GTO model.

Saxdor’s CEO Erna Rusi, alongside a senior team, assembled to oversee a smooth handover to the prince and was clearly excited. “We cannot wait to see His Highness enjoy the incredible features of this boat,” expressed Rusi.

And, features there are many. His Highness is known for a discerning taste and high regard for fine craftsmanship. In the Saxdor 400 GTO he will be well able to bask in a boat that offers both style and speed.

Just over a year after the launch of the wally101 Full Custom, the first hull of the new wallywind110, named Galma, touched the sea for the first time on June 1, 2024.

This marks a significant milestone in the journey that officially began in 2022 for the wallywind performance-sailing cruiser range, which will also feature the wallywind130 and the wallywind150.

And following the debut hull, a second wallywind110 is already under construction.

“The launch of this first semi-custom sail model since Wally became part of Ferretti Group in 2019 is a very significant moment for us,” said Stefano de Vivo, Wally Managing Director.

“Not only does it coincide with the brand’s 30th anniversary, but it also once again confirms how relevant the sailing superyacht sector is for Wally. We have always been leader in this segment, and we aim to continue anticipating market trends by creating yachts capable of becoming true benchmarks in both yachting and design”.

At 33m in overall length the wallywind110 is sleek, with plenty of deck space

The launch of the wallywind110 was an anticipated moment of celebration, attended not only by the management of Wally and Ferretti Group, but also by the entire team and workforce involved in the project that had been promising a launch by the summer. Along with their families, they admired the new superyacht taking its first sail at sea.

The bright metallic paint with blue reflections on the all-carbon hull of the wallywind110 wowed the attendees. Designed by the experienced team at reputed German racing sailboat designer studio judel/vrolijk & co, the paint shifts tone with the changing light around the yacht, adding an additional element to the eye-catching elegance of Wally’s latest gem.

The launch also showcased the unique deck layout, resulting from the know-how of Wally’s internal design team in collaboration with Italian Santa Maria Magnolfi yacht design studio, which helped develoo the exterior and interior design of the wallywind110.

“The wallywind110 is not just a superyacht that promises impressive performance,” explains Wally Founder and Chief Designer Luca Bassani.

“Wally has always been synonymous with both performance and design. The thoughtful study of the wallywind110’s deck spaces has resulted in an 80sqm cockpit, free of technical equipment [which is all relocated at the stern], comparable to that of a sailing superyacht at least 60m long.

“The owner and their guests can relax on sofas, sunbeds and seating. Not to mention the other two lounge areas located on the ‘sea terrace’ at the stern and on the foredeck.”

The idea of Lagoon World Escapade was born. It comprised of three days of sailing, sharing and festivities around the world – 30 Escapades in all – made possible with the help and enthusiasm of Lagoon’s worldwide distribution network to pay tribute to the brand that launched in 1984.

Over 400 boats – representing all models, from the smallest to the largest Lagoon yachts – and 2,400 participants gathered to celebrate Lagoon’s anniversary in 30 destinations. Some Escapades, such as the one organized in Turkey, celebrated with as many as 40 catamarans.
