Federico Rossi, COO, Rossinavi

Ā

Since Rossinavi was founded in Italy 45 years ago, how did it evolve to specialise in custom superyachts?

My father Claudio co-founded the company in 1980 as a mechanical workshop in Viareggio. Over time, it specialised in metal carpentry, supplying turnkey hulls and superstructures to other shipyards.

Ā

In 2008, following the financial crisis and a drop in third-party demand, we decided to enter the market with our own brand. We debuted with two yachts, of 54m and 70m, which were both sold on design and immediately put into construction.

Focusing on one-off builds came naturally. We were already used to working on customised specifications and adapting to the most diverse requests. This approach allowed us to enter an exclusive niche, offering unique and highly personalised yachts. To date, we’ve built yachts ranging from 40m to 75m. Our largest yacht is currently under construction.

One of Rossinavi’s two facilities in Viareggio

Ā

How big is the company today?

We have about 150 direct employees and 650 external collaborators. We are active in three cities and two continents, with two main shipyards in Viareggio, five production sites in Pisa and an after-sales department in Fort Lauderdale, United States.

Ā

How did you rise to COO of the shipyard?

I grew up in the family business. When I started working with my father, there were just seven of us. As often happens in family enterprises, each of us found our own specialisation. Today, my father, my sister and I run the shipyard together, each with complementary responsibilities.

Ā

What can you tell us about the 50m Bel¹, which Rossinavi is exhibiting at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show?

Bel¹ is a reinterpretation of the displacement yacht concept, entirely built in aluminum to ensure lightness and high performance. The yacht offers exceptional volumes, with very spacious guest cabins and a fully equipped 135sqm sundeck including a pool, outdoor kitchen and operational bar. The beach club has been redesigned with a mezzanine deck, creating the visual perception of a yacht over 60m.

Ā

Ā

Thanks to its efficient hull and reduced weight, Bel 1 reaches 18 knots with the same propulsion system that, on a steel displacement yacht, would barely allow for 15 knots, while also reducing fuel consumption by up to 50 per cent at cruising speed.

Ā

For Bel¹, can you outline the design process with Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design and Team For Design – Enrico Gobbi, and how long you’ve worked with each studio?

We’ve been working with Team For Design – Enrico Gobbi since 2009 and with Fulvio De Simoni since 2014. Bel¹ stems from a concept developed with De Simoni, called Infinity, designed for sporty high-volume yachts. Bel¹ is like an SUV version of that line, like what happened in the automotive world with brands like Porsche or Lamborghini.

Seawolf X is Rossinavi’s first catamaran

Ā

What was it like working with Fulvio De Simoni andĀ Meyer Davis on the design of the 43m Seawolf X, the shipyard’s first catamaran?

It was an exciting experience. We started from a high-performance naval platform, adapting the lines of the Infinity 42 to the proportions of a catamaran. Once the hull was defined, we brought in Meyer Davis for the interior design, working closely with the owner. The collaboration worked immediately, blending creative vision with meticulous attention to detail.

Ā

Since Seawolf X was launched and presented in 2024, what has been the reaction to the yacht?

Seawolf X generated a strong wow effect thanks to its sporty lines, a rare feature in a catamaran. The interior spaces – from the owner’s cabin to the saloon – were compared to those of much larger yachts. Visitors appreciated the comfort and spaciousness, as well as innovative approach of the design.

Ā

The 66m diesel-electric Alchemy

Ā

Can you tell us about the hybrid technology on Seawolf X and how it compares to other hybrid systems you’ve used for other yachts, such as on the 66m Alchemy (Vitruvius/Gobbi) and the 50m No Stress Two, both 2023 launches?

Alchemy uses a diesel-electric system, while No Stress Two features a hybrid setup with a thermal propulsion focus.

Ā

Seawolf X uses a truly battery-dominant hybrid system, integrating solar, diesel and batteries within a single intelligent architecture managed by AI. This system optimises energy and consumption, can absorb or return power to the marina, and is designed for maximum flexibility and sustainability.

Ā

Why has Rossinavi focused so much on AI?

Artificial intelligence is a strategic tool for us in the energy transition. AI manages consumption in real time, activates only necessary systems, and optimises energy use based on the route, weather and tides. It also collects useful data to develop increasingly efficient yachts. Our goal is to significantly reduce consumption and prepare the industry for real, measurable sustainability.

Ā

CGI of Solsea, designed by Yves Behar

Ā

You’ve unveiled the Solsea catamaran concept, designed by Yves Behar. What are the similarities to Seawolf X and what are the main differences?

Solsea shares the technical platform, hybrid approach and AI integration with Seawolf X. The main differences lie in the style and interior design, which reflect Yves Behar’s personal and artistic vision.

Ā

In 2024, Nolimits Yachts was launched and was followed by the news of Camper & Nicholsons representing the brand in Asia-Pacific. Can you please give us an update on the market reaction to the designs?

Nolimits Yachts represents a new generation of explorer yachts from 30-45m: robust and ocean-going but with the comfort and finishes of a superyacht. The market responded with interest, particularly for the larger size. A first unit of the NL45, sold in America, is already under construction and will be delivered in 2026.

The collaboration with Pininfarina for the interiors, together with Fulvio De Simoni for the exteriors, has been crucial for the Asian market. We are developing a distinctive and international design language, further reinforced by Pininfarina’s direct presence in the region.

Ā

CGI of NL45, Nolimits Yachts’ first build

Ā

Having visited Hong Kong as part of the Nolimits Yachts and Camper & Nicholsons announcement, can you tell us about your learnings on this visit and other trips to Asia?

A key difference is that yachts are often used for social activities, rather than as tools for isolation at sea. These are two entirely different perspectives. A yacht designed for the Asian market is far more complex, equipped with more features, with volume and interior spaces maximised and used in every corner. These yachts are typically lived in more indoors than outdoors.

Ā

Finally, can you pinpoint what Rossinavi stands for and why someone should choose your shipyard to build their yacht?

Rossinavi’s DNA is uniqueness. Every yacht is a one-of-a-kind project, tailor-made for the owner. Those who choose us want to create something that reflects their lifestyle and their way of experiencing the sea.

Ā

Building with Rossinavi means entering an immersive experience where every detail – from materials to layout – is defined together with the client. It’s a bespoke process that puts the owner’s needs, and often those of their family, at the centre, turning an idea into a tangible and deeply personal reality.

Leopard Catamarans enhances warranty

SHARE

The catamaran brand’s enhanced warranty system combines a dedicated channel and expertise from a global builder-OEM partnership network.

Ā

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

Ā

Leopard Catamarans, whose sailing and power catamarans are built in South Africa by Robertson and Caine (R&C), has announced details of its enhanced warranty offering, which leverages decades of customer feedback and industry-leading digital technology.

Ā

Fine-tuned over the past year, the extensive warranty programme is ā€œdesigned to provide catamaran owners with exceptional support and peace of mindā€, according to Leopard. The comprehensive dual-warranty framework combines builder and OEM coverage with real-time digital tracking and global service network integration, streamlining submissions while reducing response times.

Ā

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

Ā

The builder warranty provides 14-month protection against construction defects – ranging from cosmetic imperfections to installation issues – plus extended 24-month coverage for non-structural windows, recognising the unique stresses of marine environments. Long-term structural assurance continues with six-year coverage for hulls, decks, deck lids, flybridges, bulkheads and structural webs.

Ā

The OEM warranty ensures all onboard systems are covered by each manufacturing partner. Once owners are registered with Yanmar, Northern Lights and Raymarine, Leopard will act as the owner’s single liaison, removing the complexity of managing multiple manufacturer relationships.

Ā

Further simplifying the claims process, Leopard has developed a warranty portal on its website. A dedicated team reviews each submitted claim and offers owners status updates through Trello, a web-based workflow application.

Ā

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

Ā

Leopard’s claims process provides real-time claim transparency, connecting owners directly with support teams, engineers and R&C technicians through shared status updates, progress notes and live commentary throughout the repair process.

Ā

Whether the issue falls under the R&C warranty or OEM, Leopard will assign the claim to a warranty customer support agent who will help evaluate and process the claim from start to finish. That same agent remains the owner’s main point of contact for all aspects of the warranty claim, from revising or approving estimates, payments and reimbursements.

Ā

Leopard’s global network spans six continents and more than 20 countries, providing owners with worldwide support when and where they need it.

Ā

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

Ā

Prioritising getting owners back on the water as quickly as possible, Leopard works with qualified service centres for R&C warranty work or the owner’s preferred yard for smaller repairs. For OEM claims, Leopard directly resolves straightforward issues, or assigns certified technicians and authorised service centres for complex engine or electronics problems.

Ā

ā€œThe goal with our warranty programme is simple: to give Leopard owners the confidence and clarity they deserve,ā€ said Jese Vega, Leopard’s Warranty and Commissioning Manager. ā€œBy combining decades of customer feedback with new digital tools and a truly global service network, we’ve created a system that prioritises fast, transparent support, wherever in the world our owners are cruising.ā€

Lagoon 38 fulfils big dream for entry model

Lagoon 38 fulfils big dream for entry model

The long-awaited successor of an industry icon, the Lagoon 38 is the French builder’s competitive new entry model, featuring a flexible ā€˜In & Out’ cockpit-saloon configuration and offering up to four guest cabins.

Ā

The Lagoon 38 succeeds the former 380

Ā

Thomas Gailly encourages the crowd at the Lagoon Exclusive Days to ā€˜dream big’ as the Brand Director stands aboard a Lagoon 38, the new entry model for the world leader in cruising catamarans, with over 7,300 units built to date.

Ā

And as Boris Diaw joins him in inspiring the audience to ā€˜dream big’, it adds further weight. After all, he’s 6ft 8in tall. On top of that, the Frenchman is an NBA champion, having helped San Antonio Spurs beat Lebron James and the rest of a star-studded Miami Heat side to win the 2014 Finals.

Ā

Since then, the Bordeaux-born basketball hero has acquired a Lagoon Seventy 7 and become a friend of the brand, which led to him being appointed ā€˜Godfather’ of the first Lagoon 38.

Ā

Solar panels on the transom and coachroof can provide up to 1,420W of energy

Ā

The 38 is produced at the brand’s facilities in Vendee, but the first hull was brought to the Construction Navale Bordeaux (CNB) shipyard – builder of Lagoon’s 50ft-plus yachts – for its private premiere during this year’s Lagoon Exclusive Days.

Ā

Diaw attended the premiere party and boarded the boat at the finale, popping a celebratory bottle of champagne before joining Gailly in encouraging the crowd to ā€˜Always Dream Big’, a slogan painted on the yacht’s mainsail.

Ā

However, this wasn’t encouragement for yacht owners to upgrade to a bigger boat. It was targeted at those who had dreamed of owning a yacht and had yet to take the plunge. After all, Gailly says that half of Lagoon’s yachts are for first-time boat buyers.

Ā

The covered, semi-raised helm station

Ā

ā€œThe 38 is Lagoon’s entry model, so it’s the key boat for us to attract more people to catamarans and Lagoon,ā€ he says. ā€œIt’s a very strategic model.ā€

Ā

BIG CHALLENGE

Due to space limitations, a smaller boat can be more challenging to design than a larger one. Compounding the pressure, Lagoon was creating its first 38-footer since the iconic Lagoon 380, which launched in 1999 and became the world’s best-selling catamaran, with close to 1,000 units built across two decades.

Ā

Although the 380 has since been succeeded as Lagoon’s bestselling model by the 450 then the 42, it provided an imposing model to improve upon.

Ā

VPLP Design handled naval architecture

Ā

However, Lagoon has proved that it has moved on to another level, with the 38 offering greater exterior social space, interior volume, accommodation, visibility, light, comfort and storage.

Ā

ā€œThe Lagoon 38 was a huge challenge for us and the architects because of the 380, which helped change the history of sailing,ā€ Gailly says. ā€œThe 380 helped attract a lot of owners from sailing monohulls to catamarans, and even attracted a lot of first-time owners into boating, because it was simple, easy to handle, safe and a reasonable price.

Ā

ā€œTo build such a boat today is a challenge because certifications are very different to 20 years ago, the way we build boats is so different, so it took us years to finalise a design we were happy with.ā€

Ā

The interior has an enormous 300-litre fridge-freezer and cooking area to starboard

Ā

VPLP Design, founded in 1983 by Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-PrĆ©vost, was entrusted with the Lagoon 38’s naval architecture, having worked on every Lagoon model since the brand was founded in 1984. Patrick Le Quement handled exterior styling while Italy’s Nauta Design was responsible for the interiors, as it has been for every Lagoon since 2012.

Ā

The 37ft 4in hull has an almost 22ft beam, a 4ft-plus draught and an air draught of over 60ft. The rig includes a sail area of 836sqft, comprising a 600sqft square-top mainsail and 236sqft self-tacking jib, with the option of a Code 0 (581sqft).

Ā

Rosalie Le Gall, Lagoon’s Product Director, says: ā€œThe 38 is really targeted at first-time owners, or charter programmes for less-experienced skippers, so it’s designed to be easy to sail.ā€

Ā

The helm station provides access to the coachroof sunpad

Ā

As part of Lagoon’s increased emphasis on circulation and ease of movement, boarding has been made easy due to extended outer transoms, which can also be used for easy access to the water as well as jumping and diving platforms.

Ā

The semi-raised helm station is on the starboard side of the coachroof, which can also include up to 520W of integrated solar panels to port. The option of a further 900W of solar panels on the central transom can help the Lagoon 38 deliver up to 1,420W of clean, emission-free energy.

Ā

The foredeck offers C-shaped lounging

Ā

Forward of the coachroof solar panels is a sunpad, while a C-shaped arrangement of sunpads on the foredeck offers a much larger outdoor lounging area and is a popular place to relax.

Ā

IN & OUT

In terms of linking the cockpit and saloon, the Lagoon 38 has been inspired by the Lagoon 43 that debuted in 2024 and introduced the flexible ā€˜In & Out’ design concept.

Ā

Forward of the aft sofa, the covered cockpit has a dining area to port that, once the sliding doors are open, can be adjoined to the indoor dining area by folding out table leaves and moving loose seats to each end. Voila – you have an elongated social area for a dozen or so people, a remarkable option on a sub-38ft hull.

Ā

The ā€˜In & Out’ design allows the outdoor and indoor areas to be adjoined or separated by sliding doors and a moveable bench seat

Ā

This is a boat built to handle decent crowds, with a well-equipped galley to starboard that includes lots of storage and a 300-litre fridge.

Ā

Le Gall says: ā€œThe Lagoon 38 really fits with the spirit of the 43, which represents the brand’s latest generation and has proved a great success. The 38 has many of the same key features but on a smaller boat.ā€

Ā

Like the accommodation on the Lagoon 43, the Lagoon 38 offers either a symmetrical four-cabin, two-head layout, or a three-cabin design featuring a full-length master suite in the port hull. Lagoon is proud to announce that each of the three or double beds is 1.8m wide, which it says is a first for the market and a key attraction for both private owners and charter operators.

Ā

Lagoon says the 1.8m-wide bed in each cabin is a first for sub-40ft sail cats

Ā

Gailly beams: ā€œThere is no other sub-40 boat offering four beds this wide and such comfort on board. It’s a big advantage compared to the competition, and a tribute to VPLP Design and Nauta.ā€

Ā

In the three-cabin option, the impressive owner’s suite includes an aft bathroom with a separate shower, a desk and storage area midships, and the bed forward, which offers the benefit of being away from the engines and cockpit chatter, as well as the dock. It’s also worth noting the impressive headroom in the hulls, while there are even berth options for crew or children in the two forepeaks.

Ā

Forward view of the full-length master suite, which occupies the port hull in the three-cabin layout

Ā

As well as maximising space and focusing on clean energy, Lagoon continues to improve the green credentials of its build operations. The structure of the deck and hulls of the CE-A catamaran is created by vacuum-infusion moulding, a process ensuring lighter weight, a higher quality of composite, and reduced environmental impact by the shipyard.

Ā

All-natural hemp fibre has been used instead of fibreglass on non-structural pieces, while Lagoon’s advances in bio-sourced resins and vegetal fibres are also visible. Woodwork comes from FSC-certified forests, and recycled materials are used for the standard upholstery.

Ā

Lagoon, 38, Thomas Gailly, Boris Diaw, Bordeaux, San Antonio Spurs, Lebron James, Miami Heat, Construction Navale Bordeaux, CNB, Lagoon Exclusive Days, Cannes Yachting Festival, Rosalie Le Gall

Ā

As well as a fuel capacity of 400 litres, the yacht can store between 300-500 litres of fresh water, while the UVOJI water purification system is installed as standard and included in a sub-€350,000 base price, with Le Gall stating that a competitive price was another essential.

Ā

ā€œThe aim for the Lagoon 38 was not only to have the most space and comfort, plus the best features, but also to offer the best price.ā€

Ferretti Group has announced that it will stage six world premieres at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14) along with the Ferretti Yachts 940 and Pershing GTX70, which both debuted at this year’s Venice Boat Show (May 29-June 2).

Ā

Riva’s 112’ Dolcevita Super – an upgrade of the 110’ Dolcevita – will be the largest of four Riva premieres in Cannes. The superyacht can top 25 knots with two 2,638mhp MTU 16V engines, while highlights include a 59sqm aft cockpit featuring a 35sqm beach clubĀ with large fold-down sides. The 60sqm flybridgeĀ features a spacious aft area with freestanding furniture, a cocktail bar with stools, and a retractable TV opposite a large central sofa.

Ā

The saloon is available with sofas at the entrance leading forward to the dining area, or an aft dining area and lounge midships. In the owner’s suite, enlarged windows bring in more natural light, while a double walk-in wardrobeĀ adds both space and practicality.

Riva 58’ Capri

Ā

The 112’ Dolcevita Super will be complemented by the world premieres of Riva’s 58’ Capri, Cento and Aquariva Special. Earlier this year, the three smaller models were shown to a select crowd at the Riva Private World Premiere, held at the brand’s historic Sarnico shipyard on Lake Iseo in northern Italy.

Ā

The 58’ Capri evolves from the 56’ Rivale platform and draws design inspiration from the 68’ Diable, and is available with twin 1,000mhp or 1,200mhp MAN V8 engines, the latter powering the yacht to 37 knots.

Ā

A new addition to Riva’s Open series, the 58’ Capri features a streamline hardtop with a retractable electric bimini and a forward-facing air intake that can be opened electrically. Below deck are two double cabins for guests and one for crew, while the aft garage can house either a Williams TurboJet 325 tender or a TurboJet 285 alongside a Seabob.

Riva Cento

Ā

The 39ft Cento is a limited-edition model produced to celebrate the 100th unit of the Rivamare and can reach 40 knots with twin Volvo Penta Aquamatic Duoprop D6-440 DPI engines. Building on the Rivamare design, the Cento features an updated swim platform with an electro-hydraulic hatch that opens to create a beach area complete with chaise longues, storage for fenders and Seabobs, and a retractable gangway.

Ā

The seating area can be converted into a sunbathing space due to a height-adjustable electric table, and can be sheltered by an electro-hydraulic bimini integrated into the C-shaped sofa. Other design additions include an aft handrail fully integrated into the hull profile.

Ā

Upgraded soft furnishings include two upholstery colour options: biscuit or a combination of aquamarine and white. Inside, the large convertible dinette follows the contours of the hull and transforms into a double berth. The cabin is bright and airy, due to a redesigned bow skylight and wide side windows.

Riva Aquariva Special

Ā

The 33ft Aquariva Special is the first model to be given the ā€˜Special’ designation since the upgrade of the brand’s iconic Aquarama.

Ā

The spiritual successor of the Aquarama, the Aquariva has been in production since 2001, with 300 units produced in 24 years. Fitted with a 370hp Yanmar 8LV, the Aquariva Special can cruise at 36 knots and reach 41.5 knots.

Ā

New features include redesigned bow navigation lights, a sleeker, more aerodynamic double-glazed spherical windscreen, an enlarged stern platform for easier access to the sea, and updated cushions with new colours and refined chiaroscuro effects. The bridge instrumentation is analogue in the standard version but available in a digital version.

Ferretti Yachts 800

Ā

Along with the four Riva models, the Ferretti Yachts 800 and Itama 54 will also be among the global debuts in Cannes.

Ā

The Ferretti Yachts 800 completes the Flybridge range renewal that began in 2018 and is another collaboration between Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and its Engineering Department, Filippo Salvetti for exterior design and IdeaeItalia for the interiors.

Ā

The yacht has an overall length of 80ft 3in – or under 24m with an optional shorter stern platform – and has a 19ft 5in beam. Highlights include the 40sqm flybridge, while the saloon has the option of a sliding door on the starboard side. The yacht has a top speed of 27 knots with two 1,550hp MAN V12 engines or 31 knots with the optional 1,800hp versions.

The Itama 54, available with 730hp or 850hp MAN i6 engines, expands the brand’s range by making a return to the 50-59ft open cruiser runabout segment. Tommaso De Luca handled the exterior styling and the interior design in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee and Engineering Department.

Ā

The design of the 54-footer with a 15ft 6in beam stays true to the brand’s pared-down style, although innovations include the large forward sunpad built into the deck and an outward-angled transom, which is covered by an aft-facing sunpad.

Ā

Firsts include side glazing running the entire length of the hull and an exterior living space featuring two separate seating areas, aft and fore, while a bench-seat helm station to port completes the main deck. The lower deck includes two cabins, two bathrooms, a galley and a dinette.

Sanlorenzo SL110A to debut at Cannes

The Italian shipyard has introduced new features on the latest addition to its SL series of asymmetrical planing yachts.

Ā

Sanlorenzo will debut the SL110A at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14), where the Italian builder’s world premieres will also include the SX120 and SD132. Fitting between the SL96A and SL120A, the SL110A has an overall length of 33.5m and is the second-longest model in Sanlorenzo’s SL series of planing yachts, now entirely made up of asymmetric models.

Ā

Another Sanlorenzo design collaboration with Zuccon International Project for the exterior and Lissoni & Partners for the interior, the 231GT model features a widebody design to port and continues a design journey that began with the SL102A and evolved through the SL106A. The SL110A reaches 27 knots with twin 2,637hp MTU 16V2000 M96L engines and has a 1,250nm range at ā€˜economical speed’.

Ā

Ā

Tommaso Vincenzi, Sanlorenzo’s CEO, said the SL110A also honours the former SL108, which was launched in 2005, the year Massimo Perotti acquired the shipyard. ā€œThe SL110A concept embodies the sophisticated spatial ergonomics that made the iconic SL108 a true industry benchmark, setting her clearly apart from competition and enabling Sanlorenzo to establish itself in the larger yachts segment,ā€ Vincenzi said.

Ā

ā€œThe SL110A is a clear statement of Sanlorenzo’s design philosophy, where architectural purity meets innovation with purpose yet elegance. The asymmetry is not just aesthetic: it unlocks greater interior space, uninterrupted views, and a feeling of openness that transforms life on board. It’s a yacht designed for those who appreciate elegance and architectural intellect in equal measure.ā€

Ā

Sanlorenzo, SL110A, SX120, SD132, Cannes Yachting Festival, SL102A, SL106A, SL108, Zuccon International Project, Bernardo Zuccon, Piero Lissoni, Lissoni & Partners, Tommaso Vincenzi

Ā

A full-beam owner’s suite with direct access to a bow pool, and a large saloon with starboard balcony are among signature features. The reimagined bow, developed with Lissoni & Partners, eliminates the typical aerodynamic ā€˜bonnet’ in favour of a true sea-facing terrace, complete with integrated sofas and a swimming pool. A hidden hatch conceals the mooring area.

Ā

Aft, the transom door opens to become a platform and reveal a garage for a tender and jetski. In the cockpit, a transparent aft gunwale increases the connection with sea, while versatile furniture allows the area to offer sunbathing or dining. A clean profile is maintained by retractable stairs and staggered starboard and port gangways built into the interior.

Ā

Ā

Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project said: ā€œAsymmetry on SL110A is not simply a formal gesture but a tool to reshape the spatial harmony onboard, creating a more captivating experience. It allows us to sculpt wider interiors, open panoramic views, and dissolve boundaries between inside and out. In every curve and volume, there is a deliberate move toward an architecture that enhances the owner’s connection to the sea.ā€

Ā

The interior benefits from large windows, retractable bulwarks and sliding gunwales for greater views, natural light and airflow, while the main saloon opens onto the sea via a drop-down terrace.

Ā Sanlorenzo, SL110A, SX120, SD132, Cannes Yachting Festival, SL102A, SL106A, SL108, Zuccon International Project, Bernardo Zuccon, Piero Lissoni, Lissoni & Partners, Tommaso Vincenzi

Ā

As well as the main-deck master cabin, which has private access to the bow and flybridge, there are four lower-deck guest cabins, comprising two VIP suites and two convertible twin/double cabins. The generous crew quarters include six berths in three cabins, and a separate mess.

Ā

The mezzanine housing the wheelhouse provides direct access to the flybridge, offering the flexibility to create a sunbathing lounge, alfresco dining area or private retreat with direct access to the pool.

Ā

Ā

In terms of dĆ©cor, dark wood panelling, coffered ceilings with resin finishes, herringbone patterns and stone-effect materials define the refined interior atmosphere, while the owner’s bathroom is finished in luxurious Calacatta marble.

Ā

Piero Lissoni said: ā€œGiven her new proportions, dimensions and clean lines, I believe the SL110A is one of the most elegant yachts Sanlorenzo has ever produced, perhaps one of the most elegant yachts currently in production. She has a design language that is increasingly architectural and distinctly less naval.ā€

Rolex Fastnet Race’s centenary edition honours the legend

Among a record 444 entries, the 34ft LĆ©on won the overall title in this year’s Rolex Fastnet Race, while Black Jack 100 secured monohull line honours.

Ā

For 100 years, the Rolex Fastnet Race has stood as one of offshore sailing’s most complete proving grounds. The 51st edition, marking the centenary of the race’s founding in 1925, more than lived up to that reputation. The story of 2025 adds to the legend.

Ā

Experiences from the race course demonstrate time and again that this is more than a just a yacht race. It is a true test of human endeavour, an irresistible challenge. Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, the Rolex Fastnet Race has been supported by Rolex since 2001, and is a pillar of its privileged relationship with yachting, which began almost 70 years ago.

Ā

The 695nm course appears straightforward: sail west to the Fastnet Rock, the iconic halfway point off southern Ireland, before returning east to Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, France. As the record fleet of 444 entries set off from Cowes, England on July 26, the forecast winds were a far cry from those that ravaged the previous two editions. A less physical race was in store.

Ā

Rolex Fastnet Race, LƩon, Fastnet Challenge Cup, trimaran, SVR Lazartigue, Black Jack 100, monohull

Ā

By the close, it was clear this year’s race had still been tough, a more mental examination, testing tactics, strategy and tenacity. Threading a path between the complexities of pressure and tides required constant focus, attention to immediate conditions and accurate assessment of what might lie ahead.

Ā

The three yachts that emphatically nailed the process were LƩon from France, which won the Fastnet Challenge Cup for overall victory under IRC time correction, French trimaran SVR Lazartigue, the first to finish the race, and Black Jack 100 of Monaco, which secured monohull line honours.

Ā

Overall Winner
Racing in the main monohull category comprising 380 entrants, the 10.43m (34ft) LƩon may have appeared one of many minnows. The diverse entry list competing for the principal prize ranged in size from 9m (30ft) up to the 30.5m (100ft) Maxis, with innovative designs as well as classics from the 1960s, such as Stormvogel, a line honours winner on her debut in 1961.

Ā

LƩon is, in fact, a wolf and without disguise. The latest model built by JPK Composites in Brittany and designed by Jacques Valer, LƩon is a compact racer optimised for short-handed crews. With offshore features such as a rounded (scow) bow, planing hull, light displacement and impressive sail area, in the right hands she is a weapon.

Ā

Rolex Fastnet Race, LƩon, Fastnet Challenge Cup, trimaran, SVR Lazartigue, Black Jack 100, monohull

Ā

Alexis Loison and Jean-Pierre Kelbert are undoubtedly the right hands. Kelbert is the founder of the builder, and knows all the intricacies of LĆ©on. Most significantly, Loison has previously won the Rolex Fastnet Race, in 2013 with his father Pascal. The Loisons were the first-ever double-handed crew to win the race overall. Among other accolades, including winning the two-handed category on six occasions since his debut in 2005, once with Kelbert in 2019, Loison’s credentials extend to being part of the victorious crew at the 2018 Rolex Middle Sea Race, also with Kelbert.

Ā

Kelbert was understandably thrilled with the victory: ā€œWe had a super race. Alexis injected an intensity and rhythm that I worked hard to keep up with. We had the real ambition to win our class, which we had done before. We knew we had a good boat, but everything has to align. We did well up the Rock even if it was uncomfortable. The way back was fast in a lot of wind until just before the end, when Alexis negotiated currents superbly. To win overall, I am so satisfied and proud of what we have achieved.ā€

Ā

Loison’s pathway to becoming one of the top exponents of short-handed offshore sailing began early in life, as did his captivation with this legendary contest:Ā ā€œEver since I was small, I have known about the Rolex Fastnet Race. I got into sailing because of my father. When I was growing up, he talked about the race all the time. It became the absolute Grail.ā€

Ā

Crossing the finish was an emotional homecoming. Loison is from Cherbourg, and friends and family were waiting. It also marked a significant milestone on Loison’s journey. A transfer of knowledge which began in childhood was now complete.

Ā

ā€œIt was special to see my father on the dock,ā€ he said. ā€œHe was my best teacher, especially the waters [around here], where he taught me all about the tide and the wind. When we had light wind at the end, I knew what to do, what the best strategy would be. It was a good moment.ā€

Ā

Ā

The reintroduction of the Admiral’s Cup division to the Rolex Fastnet Race after a near 30-year absence had led to a tantalising injection of talent. Stars of elite sailing were spread throughout. The contest on the water was remarkable. Opponents were separated by minutes and occasionally seconds. Battles lasted from The Solent to the Fastnet, down to the Scillies and to the Cotentin peninsula. Heightened competition was infectious.

Ā

Loison described LĆ©on’s own confrontations: ā€œIntense, no sleep, strategy, strategy and more strategy. We did not have an easy moment. It was always hard finding the right time to sleep, to make good choices and to push. We were very tired at the end.

Ā

ā€œWe made a lot of good decisions. One key moment was to go with the big spinnaker just after the rock when the wind was 25 to 27 knots. We were pushing very hard, but by the Scillies we could see it had been a good choice. There were a lot of bigger boats around us.ā€

Ā

On the evening of the fourth day, the overall win appeared to have gone the way of the virtually all-pro Jolt 6 representing the Yacht Club de Monaco, finishing 25 seconds on elapsed time behind the equally-talented Callisto of New Zealand and just ahead of Beau Ideal from Hong Kong, another high-quality team. Few were paying attention to a group of two-handed crews making fast progress. It was too much to expect a double-handed entry to beat the mighty array of fully-crewed yachts already ā€˜in the clubhouse’.

Ā

Loison was among those to doubt: ā€œThe Rolex Fastnet Race is cream of the offshore races. It is the race that everyone talks about all over the world, and that every sailor comes to. It was great to see the Admiral’s Cup teams taking part, but when I saw the level of the crews, I said ā€˜that’s it’.’’

Ā

Entering port the following day just before noon, LƩon topped the leaderboard by an emphatic two hours on corrected time. The enormity of the achievement took time to sink in, according to Loison.

Ā

ā€œComing top of the ranking in the 100th anniversary year of the Rolex Fastnet Race is something really special,ā€ he said. ā€œWe have barely had time to understand what we have done. It is always difficult to imagine winning the race overall before the start because there are so many boats, and all the different weather scenarios really have to come together. Plus, it was already hard to conceive of winning the race just once, and to win again even less so.ā€

Ā

One person who appreciated Loison’s talents had been expecting this moment: ā€œIn 2013, my father kept the Rolex watch [awarded to the overall winner] saying to me I was young, I would win again. And here we are.ā€

Ā

Rolex Fastnet Race, LƩon, Fastnet Challenge Cup, trimaran, SVR Lazartigue, Black Jack 100, monohull

Ā

Line Honours
Racing the most powerful yachts on the Rolex Fastnet Race course has a glamorous vibe. Feted by the public, modern-day multihull and monohull Maxis are carbon-fibre masterpieces of technology. Few stones are left unturned in the search for the ultimate combination of speed and seaworthiness.

Ā

ā€˜To finish first, first you have to finish’ elevates fitness for purpose and reliability in the pursuit of offshore excellence. Breakages can be terminal. Racing these leviathans is stressful and requires calm, clarity of thought.

Ā

Four Ultim trimarans took part. The pace may have been slower than previous years, but the competition was no less captivating. SVR Lazartigue, the race record holder from 2023, hit the start line on the gun and at speed. The crew, featuring Rolex SailGP Championship athleteĀ Pete Burling, quickly carved out a slim advantage. First to the rock, they steadily built an unassailable lead arriving in an elapsed time of 41 hours, 18 minutes and four seconds.

Ā

Ā

A closer battle was delivered by the selection of 30.5m (100ft) monohulls. During the first half of the race, SHK Scallywag from Hong Kong held off the advances of Black Jack and Leopard 3. Once around the Fastnet Rock, the race to Cherbourg became a contest of downwind speed and sail-handling. Black Jack squeezed into the lead, and successfully unpicked the wind and tide conditions to cross the line an elapsed time of two days, 12 hours, 31 minutes and 21 seconds.

Ā

Beating Scallywag was a reversal of the 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race, and proof to Black Jack skipper Tristan Le Brun that this was a milestone in his team’s journey.

Ā

ā€œWe were extremely disappointed about last year,ā€ he said. ā€œIt took time to recover but it was real motivation. We did a big refit; we trained really hard and were very excited to come to the Rolex Fastnet Race. We knew Scallywag and Leopard would be fast upwind, but we would have a chance if we worked well. Our goal was to stay with them to the Rock. We executed that plan very well. Downwind we were fast and focussed, and communication was good.ā€

Ā

Le Brun was clear what it meant to win line honours in the centenary Rolex Fastnet Race: ā€œIt has been a dream my entire life to participate in this type of event, and I am extremely proud of what we have achieved as a team.ā€

Ā

The Rolex Fastnet Race has come a long from the seven yachts that took part 100 years ago. The Royal Ocean Racing Club, itself founded in the immediate aftermath, may be proud of the reputation and standing its flagship contest has achieved. Rolex, too, is proud to be associated a race which, one century on, continues to epitomise both human endeavour and achievement.

Azimut has revealed photos of a new hull of its Grande Trideck series featuring interior design by m2atelier, co-founded and headed by Marijana Radovic and Marco Bonelli. The Milan-based studio has succeeded Achille Salvagni as the interior designer for the Italian builder’s Grande superyachts.

The new Trideck will be shown at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14) along with two other superyachts featuring m2atelier interiors: a Grande 36M and the much-anticipated Grande 30M, making its world premiere and the first new Azimut model designed in collaboration with m2atelier.

Azimut, Federico Lantero, M2atelier, Marijana Radovic, Marco Bonelli, Grande, Trideck, Cannes Yachting Festival, Achille Salvagni, barefoot luxury, Grande 36M, Grande 30M

A feature wall will appear across all m2atelier projects for Azimut. On the Trideck, the saloon has an ā€˜unveiling wall’ composed of vertical slats that can slide to reveal a large TV screen. Other highlights on the main deck include the full-beam owner’s suite, while the upper-deck skylounge can be adapted from a lounge to a media room or an indoor dining area due to a versatile, high-low table.

ā€˜Barefoot luxury’ is the theme of m2atelier’s designs for Azimut, which has described the new interiors as ā€œa seamless fusion of sophistication and informality, tailored for a new wave of contemporary yacht ownersā€. However, according to m2atelier, light is the unifying language of this aesthetic philosophy, guiding perception and revealing depth.

ā€œFor us, light is not an accessory. It’s the silent force that gives form to space, reveals the textures of materials, and brings emotional depth to the onboard experience,ā€ Radovic and Bonelli stated.

ā€œOn the Grande Trideck, light becomes the invisible thread that connects every environment, accentuating the fluidity of the layout and giving each area a distinct atmosphere. We did not want to decorate with light; we wanted it to sculpt. On the Grande Trideck, light becomes architecture.ā€

The interior language is warm and measured, stripped-back yet refined, while materials are few but rich in texture. Straight lines dominate, with horizontal and vertical lines expanding the sense of space, and diagonals introducing a feeling of welcome and intimacy.

The yacht also features custom-made pieces crafted by Giorgetti following exclusive designs by m2atelier. Aside from the interior, changes to the new Trideck include the foredeck, which has a new recessed pool with integrated chaise longue and a pivoting sunpad backrest.

Federico Lantero, Azimut’s Head of Product Design, said: ā€œWhat we wanted to achieve with m2atelier was an interior vision where every element sparks emotional resonance. It goes beyond elegance. It’s about crafting an atmosphere that evolves with those who experience it, offering an inviting calm paired with confident sophistication. The Grande Trideck embodies this idea: a superyacht not just to live but to feel.ā€

Van der Valk has announced that the 34.1m One – which is for sale – has successfully completed its sea trials, some of which took place in the North Sea along with the 35m Lalabe due to debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

The all-aluminium One has a full-displacement hull, twin 750hp Volvo Penta D16 engines, a 31,000-litre fuel capacity, cruises at 13 knots and has a top speed of 14.4 knots. Van der Valk stated that One represents ā€œan exceedingly rare opportunity to jump the queue and take swift delivery of a Dutch masterpieceā€.

Like Lalabe, One has been adapted from the naval platform developed by Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects for the 34m Lady Lene. One has been customised from the waterline up, with Guido de Groot working on the exterior design, creating a unique profile highlighted by forward-pointing straight lines and aft fashion plates rising to the hardtop in a continuous line.

The four-level tri-deck has a 7.8m beam and features a fold-out aft platform that creates a waterside relaxation area, while a large lazarette offers the potential to house an extensive range of water toys and gym equipment.

Outdoor social areas include and a foredeck with seating and sunbathing areas, while the sundeck has sunbeds aft, a covered dining area, bar and outdoor galley, plus a forward jacuzzi flanked by sunbeds.

Enormous attention has been paid to storage, with all spaces under sunbeds and sofas utilised.

Large expanses of glass and cutaway bulwarks on the main deck reinforce an inside-outside feel, and the 295GT yacht has a large volume for her compact size, allowing for large groups of people to be hosted and entertained.

One features a stunning interior by Carla Guilhem Design, who has created a contemporary style based on a white and pale cream base palette with pops of colour and dark wood contrasts.

The main saloon includes large floor-to-ceiling windows and soft, rounded furniture for both the lounge and dining area. Forward on the main deck is a full-beam master suite with a large walk-in wardrobe.

The bridge deck includes covered alfresco dining aft, a skylounge that benefits from extra width created by an asymmetrical design, and the wheelhouse overlooking the foredeck.

The lower deck includes four guest cabins, comprising two VIPs and two twin guest cabins, as well as a crew area forward with a mess, three cabins and a large-capacity laundry station. A walk-through from the laundry into the guest corridor is facilitated by a watertight bulkhead door fitted for damage stability.

ā€œWith guest areas spread across four decks, all beautifully realised by Van der Valk’s in-house team of craftsmen, One represents the epitome of modern luxury cruising realised by traditional artisanal building,ā€ the shipyard stated. ā€œIn fact, everything about Project One revolves around entertaining large groups of people in style on a compact boat with lots of volume.ā€
