Asia Yachting is staging the Grand Launch of the Prestige X70 on September 23 (6-9pm) at the Aberdeen Marina Club, a few weeks after the Private Premiere of the brand’s flagship at Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in Causeway Bay.

The X70 was recently part of Prestige’s display at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 7-12), while the unit on show in Hong Kong is the first in Asia.

Designed by Camille Garroni of Garroni Design, the French builder’s long-time creative partner, the X70 is the brand’s most innovative yacht, featuring a full-beam saloon due to the absence of side decks on the main deck, a vastly extended cockpit area as well as a reverse windscreen.

The owner’s suite is forward on the lower deck and accessed from the main deck by a private staircase, while the VIP and guest cabins have separate access.

Yacht Style featured a full-length Review of the Prestige X70 in Issue 57, the magazine’s first edition of 2021. For the online version of the article, click on the pop-up link below.

Guests interesting in attending the Grand Launch on September 23 should register online with Asia Yachting ahead of the event.

The Italian builder staged the world premieres of its SL90A and SL120A at the Cannes Yachting Festival alongside the SD118, which has already sold at least 13 units.

Sanlorenzo hosted the global debuts of the SL120 Asymmetric, SL90 Asymmetric and the SD118 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, where designer Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project spoke about all three models.

The SL90A and SL120A are among four Asymmetric models in the Italian builder’s six-strong SL fleet of planing yachts, which also includes the SL78 and SL86.

The SL120A is the flagship of a line that also includes the SL102A, which launched in 2018 and was the first Asymmetric model, and the SL96A, which debuted at Boot Dusseldorf in January 2020. The asymmetrical concept of only one side deck on the main deck originated from car designer Chris Bangle, with Zuccon evolving the idea.

Sanlorenzo, Yachts, SD118, SL120A, SL90A, Asymmetric, motor, semi-displacement, planing, Bernardo ZucconThe SL90A is the smallest Asymmetric model

Zuccon said: “SL120A and SL90A represent further confirmation of a path of exploration of the field and the concept of asymmetry, which has allowed us to redefine the way of inhabiting the vessel. The spaces and fluxes of life on board have been redesigned in a different key, offering the opportunity to perceive the sea from new and dynamic perspectives, which are constantly changing as you move around on board.

“This extension of the Asymmetric range is today also a further affirmation of credibility not only from a design point of view but also from a commercial point of view, demonstrating how research into lifestyle concepts is as topical as ever and able to positively influence the rationale of the market.”

EXPANDING ASYMMETRIC RANGE
The saloon of the 37m, five-cabin SL120A has a widebody design to port while the
starboard side features sliding doors and a balcony. Just forward of the saloon, the side deck leads up stairs to the flybridge before stairs further forward lead down to the foredeck at main-deck level, allowing the owner’s suite to also have a full-beam design and direct access to the foredeck on port side.

Sanlorenzo, Yachts, SD118, SL120A, SL90A, Asymmetric, motor, semi-displacement, planing, Bernardo ZucconStella, hull one of the SL120A, was on display at Cannes

There are also sunpads and a seating area on the on the flybridge forward of the wheelhouse, while the covered flybridge area is a vast space, with a helm station and companion seating and a central bar among the only fixed furniture.

The lower deck offers a 485sqft (45sqm) beach club with fold-down terraces on both sides and an extending aft swim platform.

Sanlorenzo, Yachts, SD118, SL120A, SL90A, Asymmetric, motor, semi-displacement, planing, Bernardo ZucconThe SL120A saloon features a widebody design to port

The interior design by Martina Zuccon features neutral tones, Thai walnut wood for the wall panelling and the floor, and the ceiling in a metallic-effect lacquer finish that recalls industrially inspired architecture.

Engine options are twin 2,400hp CAT or 2,637hp MTU engines, which produce a top speed of 25 or 27 knots respectively, while fuel capacity is almost 20,000 litres.

The 27.6m SL90A, the smallest Asymmetric model to date, features a starboard passageway running along the length of the main deck, while the flybridge features forward stairs down to the foredeck on the port side.

Sanlorenzo, Yachts, SD118, SL120A, SL90A, Asymmetric, motor, semi-displacement, planing, Bernardo ZucconThe drop-down bulwark on the SL90A

The widebody design on the port side saloon also benefits from a drop-down bulwark. The asymmetrical configuration allows the saloon and the forward owner’s cabin to be on the same level, a solution normally found on larger yachts. The yacht has a top speed of 29 knots with twin 2,000hp MAN V12s and a fuel capacity of 9,000 litres.

SD118 FINDS SALES SWEET SPOT
Securing 13 sales before it was even presented at Cannes, the four-deck SD118 joins the SD96 and the SD126 in the builder’s semi-displacement line. The new 35.75m, 290GT build features asymmetrical design on the upper deck, where the skylounge has a widebody design to starboard while there’s a full-length passageway to port.

Sanlorenzo, Yachts, SD118, SL120A, SL90A, Asymmetric, motor, semi-displacement, planing, Bernardo ZucconThe semi-displacement SD118 has a volume of 290GT

Forward of the wheelhouse is an outdoor social area that leads downstairs to another outdoor zone in the bow, which can be accessed from the large, widebody owner’s suite through a sliding companionway hidden under the staircase. Other innovations include the beach club where the fold-down sides links with the swim platform to allow guests to walk around the three sides.

“This project continues the path started with SD96 and confirms my deep interest in this range of products, composed of navettes, a term that recalls some of the most romantic aspects of sailing, linked to the desire to go to sea without haste, enjoying life on board for a long time,” Zuccon said.

Sanlorenzo, Yachts, SD118, SL120A, SL90A, Asymmetric, motor, semi-displacement, planing, Bernardo ZucconThe SD118 beach club allows guests to walk around three sides

“SD118 is therefore aimed at those shipowners who enjoy what in my opinion is the greatest luxury, namely time. If on the one hand I started from the desire to maintain some ‘fixed points’ related to this fascinating typology of which the project is part, on the other hand I wanted to continue my research related to new concepts of living the sea. Hence my choice to apply the theme of asymmetry.”

A variety of interior versions are offered including designs by Daniel and Michel Bismut, Guillaume Rolland of the French studio Liaigre, and Patricia Urquiola, who also worked on the SD96. The SD118 has 32,000 litres of fuel and either twin 1,450hp MAN V12 or 1,622hp CAT ACERT C32 engines, with a top speed of 18 of 19 knots.

Open to keelboat sailors in Hong Kong, Autumn Regatta Sponsored by HSBC Expat attracted more than 600 sailors and over 100 boats across seven one-design classes, sportsboats and big boats, as Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s 2021-2022 sailing season got off to a flying start.

Organisers hadn’t banked on its success as light winds had been predicted due to two typhoons in the region, but decent breeze held over the weekend, with an 8-10 knot westerly awaiting the 109 boats that gathered in a hot and hazy afternoon for the start of the first race. As usual, the biggest fleet on the start line was the Etchells class, with 22 boats.

The Saturday race was also designated for Bart’s Bash, a global fundraising sailing even taking place at more than 1,000 yacht clubs across 63 countries over the same weekend.

Race Officer Barry Truhol opted for a start in Hung Hom, sending the fleet up Victoria Harbour before the fleets hoisted their kites, offering a spectacular view to those watching from both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

Hong Kong is one of the few places in the world featuring four TP52s racing in a small harbour and there were quite a few skippers in the smaller fleets nervously checking as they converged on Kowloon Bay mark.

Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Autumn Regatta, Sponsored, HSBC Expat, sailing, boats, Guy Nowell, TP52, Zannekin

Truhol said: “Hong Kong has been sandwiched between two typhoons over the past three days. The forecast was for zero wind, even this morning, but at 10:00, we had a westerly breeze that remained stable for the day, allowing us to run westerly courses. The racing has been close, with the fleets not as spread out as the easterly courses. It was a good day.”

DAY TWO
The subsiding air of the super typhoon brought extremely hot and hazy weather on the Sunday as the westerly breeze dropped to 6-8 knots. All classes took part in two races, with the start off Kowloon Bay and the courses covering the Victoria Harbour area, mainly between North Point and Kowloon Bay.

Big Boat Division 1 was given a longer course, beating up to the Wan Chai Convention Centre as the four TP52s sailed through Victoria Harbour and passed the Kellett Island Clubhouse, a spectacular sight for those enjoying the newly-opened Wanchai Promenade. Although the wind weakened to 4 knots near Kowloon Bay at noon, the breeze held at the western part of the course, so all fleets were allowed to complete their full course.

In Big Boat Division 1, Marcel Liedts’ Ker 46 Zannekin took the title on countback after tying with Shawn Kang’s TP 52 Alpha+ on five points. James Verner’s Nightshift won Division 2, while Dean Chisholm’s Hanse 40 Darling claimed Division 3.

Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Autumn Regatta, Sponsored, HSBC Expat, sailing, boats, Guy Nowell, TP52, Zannekin

Jamie Boag’s Noddy won the Etchells division after two bullets in three races. The J/80 Footloose, Dragon Zephyr, Pandora Solstice, Ruffian Helios and Flying Fifteen Niffty held on to their first-day leads to top their respective classes, while Taxi won Impala and Ironman topped the Sportsboat class.

Sunreef’s grand new ‘Baby Power’

With a whopping 35ft beam, the 60 Sunreef Power offers enormous social areas and up to six en-suite guest cabins plus two crew cabins. And like all Sunreef models, it offers great scope for customisation, with the first three owners choosing contrasting layouts and decors, one even fitting a gym beside the master suite.

Otoctone 60, the third 60 Sunreef Power

When Otoctone 60, the third 60 Sunreef Power, was delivered to her owner this summer, she was united for the first time with her big sister, Otoctone 80, the second 80 Sunreef Power, with both yachts available through Sunreef Yachts Charter.

Used for the model’s world premiere at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, Otoctone 60 is the second 60 Sunreef Power to be built for a repeat customer of the famed Polish builder, which has been building customised luxury catamarans in the north-coast city of Gdansk since 2002.

The first 60 Sunreef Power, launched late last year, was delivered to an owner who was making the switch to a powercat, having previously owned a Sunreef 60 sailing catamaran.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

Otoctone 60 features a galley-down layout

However, hull two (Gypsy Soul), delivered to Florida this year, was for a first-time Sunreef owner, which also describes the other four clients who have helped sales of the 60 Sunreef Power reach seven units by mid-June. Furthermore, demand has been global, with orders spanning Europe, the US and the Middle East, specifically the UAE and Qatar.

“The 60 Sunreef Power offers much more comfort than any other motor yacht in her length range,” says Francis Lapp, founder and President of Sunreef. “This is why we see more and more demand for this model with first deliveries to Europe, the US, the Middle East and hopefully Asia soon.

“This yacht gives every owner full freedom in terms of customisation, so décors, layouts and hull colours are different almost every time. This blend of quality and uniqueness is a strong argument for customers worldwide.”

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

Hull two of the 60 Sunreef Power, part of a new range with 70, 80 and 100 models

It’s an impressive if understated start for a model launched during the Covid era, so couldn’t initially benefit from the client and media exposure of exhibiting at major boat shows until the return of the Cannes Yachting Festival this year.

The arrival contrasted with her big sister, the 80 Sunreef Power, which was the biggest catamaran at the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival as she made a high-profile world premiere. The model’s publicity was further boosted by tennis legend Rafa Nadal’s presence on the boat and at the Sunreef stand, as he looked ahead to taking delivery of his own unit, Great White, which this year is exhibiting at the Monaco Yacht Show.

SIZE AND POWER

Although the 60 Sunreef Power had a quieter arrival, the smaller sister is a mighty yacht in her own right. Sunreef is renowned for the width and living spaces of both its sailing and power catamarans, and the 60’s remarkable beam of 35ft (10.7) means she’s just 4ft 4in shy of her big sister’s wingspan – despite being almost 19ft shorter.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

The hydraulic platform can carry a tender and create a 35ft-wide swim platform

For comparison, she’s 2ft wider than the Lagoon Sixty 7 and almost 3ft wider than the Fountaine Pajot Power 67, both significantly longer models. She’s also a full 8ft wider than the new Aquila 70, a deliberately slender powercat designed to resemble the speed and looks of monohull motor yachts.

The 60 Sunreef Power is no slouch herself, although speed is dictated by the choice of propulsion, which can range from twin 300hp up to two 850hp engines that produce a top speed of 24 knots, according to the yard. Autonomy is also mighty impressive, with a transatlantic range of 3,000nm at eight knots or 800nm at 15 knots.

The 60 is now effectively the Power range’s entry-level model, yet as well as the size and power of its catamarans, Sunreef prides itself on the customisation of its living spaces. This is clearly seen on the first three hulls, where the saloon, flybridge and accommodation arrangements are as varied as the décor and materials used.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

Hull two, Gypsy Soul, was delivered to Florida

However, each features the same aft design, where symmetrical stairs flank a huge hydraulic platform that can carry a tender and become part of a 35ft-wide swim platform once the tender is launched. Overlooking the platform is a flip-up garage that can store a jet-ski and other water toys.

OUTDOOR ZONES

While the yacht’s 10.7m beam is impressive from afar, it’s even more impressive when you step into the vast cockpit sheltered by the flybridge overhang.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

The enormous cockpit can have a huge aft sofa that reclines into a sunbathing area, a dining table for 10, raised day bed to port and wet bar to starboard

The cockpit is dominated by a long sofa, with a backrest that can fold down to create a huge sunbathing area. A large, height-adjustable dining table can comfortably sit 10 people, while there’s a raised day bed to port and a wet bar to starboard. It’s even possible to have a rain shower in the ceiling on the starboard side.

The yacht’s scale is also evident on the enormous flybridge, which is almost completely covered by a hardtop with central skylights. The layout can be completely customised and exciting options including a full-width sunbathing area aft, with or without a spa pool.

Just in front there can be a wide or even full-width sofa with reclining backrest to connect to the sunbathing area, as well as a long, height-adjustable dining table for 10. Some owners prefer less furniture and more space, while a portside wet bar with a barbecue is a popular option.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

Covered by a hardtop with skylights, the flybridge can be completely customised as shown on hulls one (above) and three (below)

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

The foredeck is another outdoor area and can be accessed by a forward saloon door as well as the side decks, which feature reassuringly high railings. To port is a sunken bow lounge featuring an L-shaped sofa and a table, while to starboard is a square sunpad. The solid foredeck in front provides hatches to access the forepeaks, which can feature single or double en-suite crew cabins.

SALOON SELECTION

Back to the cockpit and it’s time to enter the saloon, which features panoramic glazing and skylights forward, where the lower navigation station can be positioned either side of the foredeck door. As with the flybridge, the main-deck interior can be completely customised, with the galley up or down a primary decision.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

Hull two, Gypsy Soul, features the galley-up layout, dominated by a huge island kitchen

Hull two has the galley up – and what a galley it is. Huge fridges to port are the start of a kitchen that occupies the whole starboard side, with double sinks, cooking hobs and prep areas all illuminated by big windows.

However, the enormous island counter is the star of the show, offering a huge prep/serving area. It also doubles as a bar, with three pivoting stools on the saloon side a good place to perch when watching the TV, which folds down from the ceiling on the starboard side.

On the port side is a large C-shaped sofa and a long dining table that mirrors the island counter, with square stools completing the seating for indoor dining.

Focused on light décor, hull one shows a luxuriously finished, open saloon layout, with the galley located in the starboard hull

In the galley-down layout, the saloon becomes an enormous lounge, with full-length sofas on both sides, dining table to port, and coffee tables and loose chairs to starboard.

The customisation of the first three hulls is also evident in the décor, which is completely different on each. The light, bright hull one contrasts with hull two’s mix of black and white, while hull three’s grey theme highlights blue and yellow sofa cushions and an elegant brown leather chair.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

The galley-up layout offers the potential for six en-suite double guest cabins with three in each hull, where the aft cabins have inward-facing beds while the other four feature beds facing the hull windows.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

In hull two, Gypsy Soul, the owner’s suite has a walnut-finish headboard

The owner of the galley-up Gypsy Soul chose three guest cabins to starboard, each with a TV, hull windows, luxurious en-suites and walk-in rain showers. The master cabin in the port hull has a king-size bed midships, a desk/vanity table and an aft walk-in dressing room that leads through to a large bathroom with walk-in shower.

However, instead of a forward guest cabin, it has a custom-built gym equipped with free weights, step bench, Bosu ball, yoga mats, skipping ropes, foam rollers and more. And it’s easy to throw your gym clothes in the wash as the washer-dryer is concealed in the lobby between the gym and master suite.

Sunreef, Power, 60, Gdansk, Otoctone 60, Gypsy Soul

Hull two features a gym forward of the master suite in the port hull

In the units with the open-saloon layout, the master suite also occupies the middle and aft sections of the port hull, while there’s a good-sized galley in the middle of the starboard hull.

Following the 60 and 80 models, Sunreef’s new Power range is rounded by the first 70 Power and the much-anticipated 100 Power, both of which recently hit the water. And there’s no stopping the Polish builder, as all models are also available in the Eco version, with the 80 Sunreef Power Eco set to be the first powercat to emerge from the solar-electric line.

Swan 58

Swan’s world premieres in 2021 include the Swan 58 (Cover & Review, Issue 60), a hugely popular new design by Germàn Frers making its debut at Cannes. Frers, who has been designing for Swan since 1981, created the 58 as a fast bluewater cruiser that can be comfortably sailed by a couple, with a performance package as an option.

He started designing the 58 around the same time he was designing the Swan 48 that launched in 2019 and the new model is similarly refined and in demand. The coach roof almost blends into the clean deck, where the symmetrical cockpit has L-shaped sofas and foldable tables on both sides.

Below deck, Italian architect Misa Poggi has created a warm interior offered in a choice of décor ‘moods’: Swan Soul, Scandi Vision or Velvet Vibe. Steps lead down to the galley to port, the saloon with adjustable table is forward, the master suite is in the bow and the two guest cabins are aft. Starboard of the steps is either a full navigation station or a fourth cabin.

Jeanneau Yachts 60 – Cruiser version

The Jeanneau Yachts 60 (Review, Issue 60) is another world premiere at Cannes, with two versions on show at Port Canto: the racing-oriented Classic with a retractable hood and helm bimini, along with the Cruiser version featuring a hard top with a canvas sunroof.

The 60 succeeds the 57 in the French builder’s flagship Yachts range that also includes the 51, 54 and the upcoming flagship 65. Measuring 59ft 11in with the bowsprit, the twin-helmed 60 features a new 57ft 1in fibreglass hull by Philippe Briand and an interior by Winch Design.

The innovative deck layout features an inverted bow, a hull chine, integrated bowsprit, high sheer line and Jeanneau’s signature step-free, angled side decks. The longitudinal aft garage to port can store a 4ft 11in dinghy.

Jeanneau Yachts 60 – Classic version

There are four mast options spanning three sizes, four rigging choices and three to six cabins related to the various layout options available in four areas – starboard saloon, aft accommodation, forward accommodation and forepeak – that allow great personalisation.

Meanwhile, Beneteau is scheduled to unveil its new Oceanis 34.1 at Grand Pavois La Rochelle (September 28-October 3) before it’s displayed at the Barcelona International Boat Show (October 12-17). In this latest addition to the seventh generation of Oceanis yachts, Marc Lombard has created a flared hull that provides greater interior space for the forward cabin.

Swan, Beneteau, Jeanneau, sailing, monohull, Oceanis, Frers, Misa Poggi, Marc Lombard

Beneteau Oceanis 34.1

Standard equipment includes a conventional 31sqm mainsail and 18sqm self-tacking jib, while options include an in-mast furling system and rigging packs that include a stemhead for downwind sails, extra winches and a 26sqm furling genoa. The bulb-free hydraulic lifting keel reduces drag and allows simple beaching, while the cockpit has no backstay, making it easy to get to the swim platform.

The interior by Italy’s Nauta Design is naturally lit by four deck hatches and four hull portholes, with options including two or three double cabins, and an oak or walnut finish. The L-shaped galley is to starboard, the head is to port, while the full-beam saloon has two sofas and a large dining table, comfortable for up to eight passengers.

Lagoon, Sunreef and Bali are among leading catamaran builders who have released new sailing models in 2021.

Lagoon 55

Among world premieres at Cannes, the Lagoon 55 is also among the year’s most exciting new catamarans. Featuring naval architecture by VPLP Design, exterior design by Patrick le Quément and an interior by Nauta Design, the Lagoon 55 succeeds the Lagoon 52 but is a whole new class, 2ft 4in longer and almost 6ft wider, with four, five or six cabins.

It also has a full flybridge with an L-shaped sofa, foldable dining table and a full-width sunbathing area aft, a wet bar to starboard aft of the helm bench seat and even a large sunbathing area forward on the coachroof. However, its signature feature is arguably its redesigned aft cockpit, which Lagoon describes as “an open terrace on the sea”.

Lagoon 55

Inspired by motor yachts, the extra-large cockpit includes a large dining area opposite a wet bar, aft-facing sofas on each side and a raised daybed to starboard.

The steps from the two transoms have been moved inwards to free up space for sitting or lying by the water, or even cooking at the optional plancha to port. Other options include a retractable bench seat to starboard. Simpson Marine has already sold a unit into China that’s scheduled to arrive by the end of the year.

Lagoon, Sunreef, Bali, Sailing, Catamarans, 55, 70, 4.2

Sunreef 70

The Sunreef 70 is another world premiere at Cannes and rounds out the Polish builder’s new generation of sailing cats, which also includes the 50, 60 and 80. The Sunreef 70 has a beam of 35ft 5in and the first two hulls, Ocean Vibes and Ginette, exemplify how much the shipyard can customise living areas.

The model can feature the galley in the saloon or in the hulls, where an almost limitless array of options includes up to six cabins excluding the forepeaks. All Sunreef’s new-generation of sailing and power catamarans are now available in an Eco version featuring the builder’s own solar panels and electric propulsion and other green technology.

Lagoon, Sunreef, Bali, Sailing, Catamarans, 55, 70, 4.2

Bali 4.2

Bali’s sailing catamarans currently range from the 40ft Catspace Sail to the 5.4 and all apart from the flagship are less than two years old. The Bali 4.2 (Review, Issue 61) is one of its 2021 models and the 42-footer is having its world premiere at Cannes.

Bali’s second-smallest sailing cat, the 4.2 is another example of the French builder’s winning formula, with brand signatures including the lifting ‘Bali door’ that completely opens the saloon to the cockpit.

Other key brand features include the forward saloon door and the solid foredeck, as well as the enormous, home-style fridge-freezer, while the 4.2 has lounging areas on the flybridge and the option of three or four cabins.

Bali 4.8 leads ‘second generation’

The new 4.8 is Bali’s second-biggest model, offering all the brand’s signature features and up to six cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a rarity on a sub-50ft sailing cat. Meanwhile, dealer Asiamarine has ordered a specially customised unit for Asia.

60 Sunreef Power

It  has been a bumper year for powercats, with Sunreef launching its 100 Sunreef Power at its new shipyard in Gdansk in late August ahead of sea trials and technical tests in the Baltic Sea.

Meanwhile, in Cannes, the Polish builder is staging the world premiere of its 60 Sunreef Power (Review, Issue 60), the second model in its new generation of power catamarans led by the 80 Sunreef Power, which had its global debut at the show two years ago.

60 Sunreef Power

The first hull of the 60 Sunreef Power was launched late last year and at least two more have since been delivered. Following the general design of the 80 Sunreef Power, its 60ft sister makes the most of its enormous beam, over 35ft, and offers customised layouts for all living areas, with accommodation layouts including up to six guest cabins and two crew cabins.

The yacht features a large hydraulic platform, propulsion options range up to twin 850hp engines, while fuel capacity can be up to 10,000 litres.

Aquila 70 Luxury

Aquila joined the large powercat segment this year with its new 70 Luxury (Review, Issue 59), which had its world premiere at the Palm Beach show in late March and whose length puts it up against the likes of Sunreef and Lagoon’s Sixty 7 and Seventy 8.

However, Aquila’s new flagship is relatively slim, with a sub-27ft beam, and is distinguished by motor yacht-style lines and performance, with twin 1,000hp Volvo D13 inboards powering her to 27 knots.

The 70 Luxury is a semi-custom build and offers the option of a full-beam master suite forward of the saloon, while finishing and décor have been elevated, with hull one featuring Natuzzi furniture and Gaggenau kitchenware.

Aquila 54 Yacht

Furthermore, Aquila has simultaneously released the 54 Yacht. A production model that’s less than 2ft slimmer than her big sister, it shares many of the design traits including a high-low swim platform that carries a purpose-built Aquila tender, central stairs from the flybridge to foredeck, and the option of an open or enclosed flybridge and a full-beam master suite.

Aquila’s new models also include the 2021 edition of the 32 Sport, which now features an upgraded seating configuration, new hardtop and a fixed swim platform between the outboards with a customised, fully stowed swim ladder.

Meanwhile, it has been a landmark year for Silent-Yachts, which had scheduled to stage the world premiere of the Silent 60 at Cannes along with the first Front Exit edition of its Silent 55, although the Silent 60’s arrival at the show was delayed.

Thailand’s PMG Shipyard (Shipyard, Issue 61) is building the first hulls of the Silent 60, which is the first of a new generation of solar-electric catamarans by Austrian-owned Silent-Yachts.

The Silent 60 has an overall length of 59ft and a beam of 29ft 6in, and the German-owned hull one is based in Mallorca and available for charter. It includes a 13sqm kite wing from Wingit, which has a 150m line and can pull the 30-tonne boat with about 4-5 knots, reducing consumption.

The kite-sail system is stored in the bow and is an option on all new Silent models, which include the 62 3-Deck, 80 and 80 3-deck.

Gulf Craft Majesty 175

Gulf Craft has had a busy year, launching a range of new models led by its flagship Majesty 175, the world’s largest composite production superyacht, which had a glamorous premiere with spectacular fireworks in Dubai in May.

The exterior and interior of the 56.4m, 780GT megayacht are by Cristiano Gatto Design Studio in Italy, while naval architecture is by Massimo Gregori of the Yankee Delta Studio. Able to cruise shallow areas due to a 2.05m draught, the Majesty 175 has a top speed of 16.5 knots, a cruising speed of 10 knots and a transoceanic range of 4,000nm.

Features include a 5m infinity pool with swim-jet system at the forward deck and a hybrid sky-lounge that can be converted to an open sun deck. The yacht has seven guest staterooms and can host up to 10 crew in six cabins and a captain’s cabin.

Gulf Craft Majesty 120

In April, Gulf Craft delivered the first tri-deck Majesty 120 to its owner. The UAE builder handled the naval architecture and exterior design of the 37m superyacht, while the interior is by the Gatto studio.

One of the Majesty 120’s most pioneering features is that aside from the twin 2,600hp engines and generators, her onboard systems are electrically powered, from fin stabilisers to thrusters and steering, so eliminating the need for hydraulic systems.

Over the summer, the yard completed hull one of its new three-cabin Majesty 49, a 47ft 9in model available with tropical-strength air-conditioning throughout, making it suitable for hot Asian climates.

The yacht is fitted with twin 650hp Volvo Penta D6-IPS engines, although a wide range of options are offered including four 400hp Mercury Verado outboards.

Gulf Craft also recently launched the Majesty 62 Maldives, which features the hull of the original 62 but has a new superstructure with a vertical windshield and a new flybridge containing the yacht’s only helm station. The Majesty 62 Maldives has been designed with South Asia and Southeast Asia in mind, again featuring superior air-conditioning for tropical climates.

In Cannes, Swan’s world premieres include the Finnish builder’s first motor yacht, the Shadow. Over the summer, the 43ft 4in yacht was seen cruising around Porto Cervo during the Swan Sardinia Challenge, while the boat was also displayed in a pool at the centre of a waterfront party.

The Shadow was conceived as a chase or shadow boat for Swan owners but has evolved to become a multi-purpose boat that can be configured for use as a fishing boat, day boat and Limo tender. The yacht has a twin-stepped V hull and a flush deck, although the aft platform around the three outboard engines can be raised or lowered.

Engine options range from 225hp to 350hp each, producing a top speed of 55 knots. Galeon’s 325 GTO debuted at Palm Beach in March and is appearing at Cannes, while the first hull in Asia is expected in Hong Kong in the fourth quarter. Designed by Tony Castro, the builder’s 20-year collaborator, the 325 GTO is the first model in the new Grand Touring Outboards collection.

Powered by twin Mercury Verado 350hp engines, the sporty motor yacht has an overall length of 32ft 9in, a hardtop with extendable sunblind, a fold-down side to port and aft bench seat with adjustable backrest. The single-level deck also includes a wet bar and grill to port, an L-shaped sofa and two power-adjustable helm seats.

The wide, almost 11ft beam continues far forward so the bow area offers a large social area where U-shaped seating can be filled in with cushions for a large sunbathing area. Below deck is a dinette that can be converted to a bed, a double cabin and a full-height bathroom with shower.
