The first Benetti Oasis 40M on display in Portofino

Benetti announced that it has sold 11 units of its brand-new Oasis 40M, which was scheduled to debut at the now-cancelled Cannes Yachting Festival.

The stunning sales figure was declared at Azimut-Benetti’s annual press conference in Portofino, where the 133-footer designed by UK-based RWD was showcased along with the Azimut Magellano 25 Metri, which was accompanied by the world premiere of Gabriele Muccino’s short film dedicated to the new Magellano flagship.

Designed by UK-based RWD, the Oasis 40M is focused on outdoor living

Benetti also recently delivered the first Diamond 145, the largest model in its Class series of yachts that includes the Delfino 95, Mediterraneo 116 and Fast 125.

Benetti is scheduled to launch three new models in the next 18 months, starting in September 2021 with the B.Yond 37M, the first model in the brand’s new explorer series, and the Motopanfilo 37M, ushering in a new class for the Italian superyacht builder. It has also scheduled a second Oasis model for early 2022.

Timeline of new models from sister companies Azimut and Benetti

Meanwhile, Azimut has scheduled to start 2021 with the new Flybridge 53 and its flagship 38m Trideck, both with exterior designs by Alberto Mancini. A new Flybridge model, the Magellano 66 and the Verve 42 will follow in the autumn, while the new Magellano flagship, the 30 Metri with an exterior by Ken Freivokh, will launch in 2022.

Marco Valle, who began his new role as CEO of Azimut-Benetti Group on September 1, said the company was excited about the future after what he described as a “very complex year”.

Azimut’s new Magellano 25 Metri also debuted in Portofino

“We are now able to present a particularly rich programme of product development. Our overall product range will increase from 30 to 35 models, thus essentially covering all the existing categories in the luxury yachting market, bringing the Collections from eight to 10, adding the luxury explorer category, B.Yond and the whole Oasis experience,” said Valle, who had been CEO of Azimut Yachts since 2016, having joined the brand in 1996.

“This will allow us to continue serving our international clientele by meeting their demands with a range that not only offers yachts from 12m to over 100m long, but also makes it possible to choose from very different and assorted styles of navigation and experiences on board.”

Also designed by Ken Freivokh, the Magellano 30 Metri will launch in 2022

Sunseeker operates across various facilities in Poole on England’s south coast

Sunseeker International, together with backing from its majority shareholder Dalian Wanda, is investing additional working capital to accelerate expansion of its product range in the coming years.

The British brand is investing over £38 million (about US$49 million) in new product development between 2020-2023 to double its portfolio from the 11 models it offered last year to 22 models, quicker than originally planned.

The Manhattan 68 kicked off Sunseeker’s new models for 2020

Following the world premiere of the Manhattan 68 at Boot Dusseldorf in January, the yard plans to launch the 90 Ocean, 88 Yacht, 65 Sport Yacht, Manhattan 55 and Predator 55 EVO™ by the end of this year.

Andrea Frabetti, CEO at Sunseeker International, said: “This significant support reflects our shareholder’s belief in the entire Sunseeker team and its commitment to our business, brand and manufacturing in Dorset.

The Predator 55 EVOTM is among models sets to be launched by the end of this year

“During the crisis, we have remained fully focused on our strategic plan to not only retain our market-leading position but to gain market share by remaining resolutely focused on innovation across multiple new and exciting niche models.

“We have seen strong market confidence throughout this period and are very much primed for future growth and success.”

Designed to succeed the Manhattan 52, the Manhattan 55 is also among Sunseeker’s new models

Sunseeker’s current ranges comprise Superyacht (50M Ocean, 42M Ocean, 131, 116), Yacht (100, 95, 90 Ocean, 88, 86, 76), Sport Yacht (74, 65), Predator (74, 60 EVO™, 55 EVOTM, 50), Manhattan (68, 55, 52) and Performance (Hawk 38). Not all of these models have been launched and some will soon be discontinued.

The Sanlorenzo SL96A is the second Asymmetric model by the Italian shipyard

Sanlorenzo Asia, represented by Simpson Marine, has secured the sale of the first SL96 Asymmetric into Asia, following the debut of the model at Boot Dusseldorf in January. The hull is scheduled for delivery to Hong Kong in the summer of 2021, along with an SL102 Asymmetric sold earlier this year.

Part of the brand’s planing series, the SL102 Asymmetric debuted at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival and was the pioneer of Sanlorenzo’s asymmetric design, which only features a side deck on starboard side, adding 10sqm to the main-deck interior.

With only one side deck, to starboard, the saloon extends to the full beam on port side

Nick Stratton, Sanlorenzo Asia Sales Manager, said: “We feel very proud to see that the Asymmetric concept has been so well received in Asia, with more projects to be finalised in the near future. This newly sold SL96A will be a beautiful addition to the fast expanding Sanlorenzo fleet in Hong Kong.

“This has proved to be a fantastic year for Sanlorenzo in Asia, with eight Sanlorenzo yachts commissioned within the first eight months of 2020, and many more to come. It is rewarding to see Sanlorenzo’s owner-focused approach and their fully made-to-measure yachts are now well known here in Asia, and have rightly gained the attention of the most demanding and discerning clients.”

The first Swan 98, Be Cool, was designed by Argentine veteran German Frers

Nautor’s Swan staged a live streaming press conference for its first Swan 98 before the first hull, Be Cool, was due to appear publicly for the first time at autumn regattas although its schedule has been affected by the cancellation of the Rolex Swan Cup, which was due to be held in Italy’s Porto Cervo in September.

The 98 is the first model in a new Maxi Swan range by the legendary German Frers, 79, who has been designing for the Finnish yard since 1981. Genovese architect Misa Poggi has designed an interior that offers two layouts – owner aft with walk-in wardrobe or owner forward – along with a double and two twin guest cabins, plus two twin crew cabins, all with ensuites.

The saloon on the first Swan 98, which is offered in four interior ‘moods’

Beneteau’s new sailing yachts include the stunning Oceanis Yachts 54 designed by Italians Roberto Biscontini and Lorzenzo Argento, the former handling naval architecture and the latter leading interior and deck design.

On this little sister of the flagship 62, a straight stem increases interior volume in the bow while the maximum beam (5m) has been extended aft, where the garage door opens to become the swim platform and also deploy an 8ft inflatable tender.

Beneteau has added the Italian-designed Oceanis Yachts 54 to its flagship 62

The cockpit has a flush layout with distinct areas for lounging and sailing, while Argento has created an interior featuring abundant natural light and ventilation, and available in light oak or walnut.

A large C-shaped sofa and dining table to starboard faces an L-shaped sofa by the chart table, with galley aft. The master cabin is in the bow and two guest cabins are in the stern, either both with ensuites or sharing one bathroom to enable a larger galley.

Beneteau’s Oceanis 40.1 features a hull by Marc Lombard and interior by Nauta Design

Beneteau’s other new model is the Oceanis 40.1, which sits at the heart of a range from 30.1 to 51.1. The 40-footer features a new flared hull design by Marc Lombard, with steps extending over a third of the bow, and a modular interior by Nauta Design.

A C-shaped sofa, dining table, moveable bench seat and chart table are to port, opposite a welcoming C-shaped galley. Layouts include two, three or four cabins, with the master in the bow.

The first Jeanneau Yachts 60 will be completed soon, in time for a debut at Boot Dusseldorf

Meanwhile, Jeanneau is preparing to launch its Yachts 60 this year ahead of its world premiere at Boot Dusseldorf in January, while fellow French builder Dufour started 2020 with the world premiere of its 530 in Dusseldorf before preparing to stage its in-water debut this autumn.

The in-water debut of the Dufour 530 was scheduled for Cannes

Check out some stunning sailing catamarans in the fourth article of a series on new models.

Ocean Vibes is the first Sunreef 70, which completes the Polish builder’s new sailing range

Sunreef completed its modern four-strong range of sailing catamarans with the summer launch of the first Sunreef 70, Ocean Vibes, which joined the 80 launched in 2018 and the 50 and 60 added last year. Measuring a touch over 70ft in overall length, the newcomer offers almost 3,100sqft of living space due to an enormous beam of 35ft 5in, contributing to large floor space on all three decks.

Ocean Vibes features five cabins, but the 70 is available in a variety of accommodation layouts. Standard features include a large aft cockpit that can connect with the hydraulic swim platform, a large flybridge and a bow terrace accessible from the saloon. The mainsail and genoa are 160sqm (1,722sqft) and 120sqm (1,292sqft) respectively, while twin 180hp or 225hp engines can take over in no or low wind, with fuel capacity options up to 4,000 litres.

The Lagoon 65 joins the Seventy 7 as the French builder’s biggest sailing cats

The Lagoon 65 is another high-profile offering in the world of large and luxurious sailing catamarans. Successor to the popular 620, the 65 is the smaller sister of the Seventy 7 that debuted at Cannes in 2016 and the sailing counterpart of the 67 powercat that premiered at Cannes last year.

Notable features include the cockpit’s adjustable aft bench that can either face forward or toward the sea, while the cockpit also has a smokeless barbecue and a wet bar. The saloon connects to a sunken lounge in the foredeck, while the generous flybridge has room for sofas, sunpads and an eight-person dining table. Layout options include galley up or down, and up to six cabins in the hulls.

Fountaine Pajot’s Samana 59 is the brand’s second-biggest sailing cat

Fountaine Pajot has also launched its second-biggest sailing catamaran this year, showcasing the Samana 59, whose 320sqft flybridge is billed as the biggest in its class according to the French builder.

Samana effectively replaces the Ipanema 58, but the newcomer is more reflective of a new generation pioneered by the flagship Alegria 67, which debuted at Cannes two years ago. As well as an enormous flybridge, other highlights on the 59 include a 300sqft cockpit, a foredeck with modular sunbathing stations and the option of up to six guest cabins and two crew cabins.

Fountaine Pajot’s smallest sailing cat, the Isla 40 is just over 39ft in length

Fountaine Pajot has recently unveiled the Isla 40, whose release was pushed forward after initially being slated for a 2021 debut. Just over 39ft in length, it’s the brand’s new entry sailing model, sitting below the Astrea 42 and Elba 45, yet can offer up to four double cabins with ensuites or sharing two bathrooms, one in each hull, with an optional skipper’s cabin in the starboard forepeak.

Alternatively, the Maestro version features two doubles in the port hull and a full-length owner’s suite occupying the full starboard hull. The sheltered cockpit has facing sofas and a long dining table aft of an open portside galley that provides a seamless connection to the saloon. A chart table and controls are accessible from the entrance, while forward is an aft-facing C-shaped sofa.

Bali debuted its 4.8 at its own event on France’s south coast in July

Bali continues to expand and upgrade its sailing range. Having held the world premiere of the Catspace Sail at Boot Dusseldorf in January, the young French brand staged the premiere of its 4.8 in July at its first ‘Les Rendez-vous Bali’ at Canet-en-Roussillon on the south coast, welcoming clients, prospects and dealers for an ‘in person’ alternative to the online shows held post-Covid.

Bali was scheduled to stage the show debut of the 4.8 and the official world premiere of its even newer 4.6 at Genoa in October. Both models feature flybridges and Bali’s signature solid foredecks with expansive seating and sunbathing areas.

The Bali 4.6 is the brand’s third new sailing model debuting in 2020

The 4.6 offers up to five cabins plus crew berths in the forepeaks or a three-cabin version with full-length master to starboard. The 4.8’s options include a six-cabin, six-bathroom version, which the brand describes as a first on a 48-footer.

The MCY 76 Skylounge is the second model in the Italian builder’s Skylounge Collection

Monte Carlo Yachts has launched the new MCY 76 Skylounge, the second model of the Skylounge Collection, following the presentation of the MCY 70 version at the Miami Yacht Show in February.

Conceived for owners wishing to be able to use each deck all year round, the Skylounge Collection designed by Nuvolari Lenard offers an enclosed flybridge made of carbon-fibre that houses the yacht’s sole helm station, so creating more social space on the main deck.

The cockpit, upper deck aft and foredeck all offer outdoor social areas

Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard said: “Volumes, light and harmony are the hallmark of the MCY 76 Skylounge. We worked on designing a boat able to offer a new cruising experience with extreme levels of comfort and safety on board, to be enjoyed all year round.

“We are proud to say that the new MCY model perfectly matches these ambitious goals, representing the right place for those looking to escape for unique and exclusive moments.”

The enclosed flybridge has an L-shaped sofa to port and a deck to starboard

On unit one, the enclosed flybridge features a sofa to port and a long desk to starboard, a twin-seat helm station forward, plus large, openable skylights. Aft is an outdoor social area with wet bar and grill to starboard.

Other outdoor areas include the wide, versatile foredeck, which has sun pads and dining tables, and the spacious aft cockpit, offering a covered area for al fresco dining.

The aft upper deck is fitted with a wet bar and grill

On the main deck, the first unit features the galley aft, saloon and a raised dining area forward, although another layout option features the galley forward, with dining room midships and saloon aft. Forward, an internal staircase in steel and wood leads to the enclosed flybridge.

The interior decor is composed by bright lacquered panels and warm natural maple wood surfaces, enriched by chromed details and reflective materials.

The main deck is available in galley-aft or galley-forward layouts

Sergio Loiacono, Monte Carlo Yachts’ Sales and Marketing Director, said: “The levels of comfort and privacy on board the new MCY 76 Skylounge are maximised, thanks to the versatile layouts and the different possible uses of both the main deck and the upper-deck saloon.

“With the second model of the Skylounge Collection, we are continuing our path of innovation, introducing a new concept of onboard experience, able to match the desires of freedom and well-being of owners worldwide.”

The owner’s cabin makes the most of the brand’s iconic circular windows and portholes

On the lower deck, the MCY 76 Skylounge offers accommodation for up to eight in a full-beam owner cabin, a VIP cabin and two guest cabins, each one with an ensuite bathroom.

Aft, the spacious full-headroom crew quarters are also customisable, with the option of up to two crew cabins or a combination of one spacious cabin with a galley and dinette in lieu of a second cabin.

The Aquila 54 racked up huge sales before the first hull was completed

Aquila is behind two of the year’s most exciting new powercat models and both are debuting in the US. The China-based shipyard, created in cooperation with MarineMax, will showcase both its 54 and flagship 70, which put Aquila into a new segment of the market compared to its existing 32, 36 and 44 models.

The Aquila 54 is proving the big sensation, with 18 hulls sold as of mid-August. The 54-footer has a beam just over 25ft and layout options include galley up or down, and three, four or five cabins including an eye-catching forward master cabin that spans both hulls. A skipper’s quarters can also be included.

The saloon on the Aquila 70, the flagship of the China-based powercat builder

Both models are strong performers, with the 54 predicted to hit 25 knots with twin 600hp Volvo Penta engines and have a range of 1,100nm, while the 70 is expected to have a similar range and reach 24.5 knots with 1,000hp Volvo Pentas.

The 70 has a beam of almost 27ft and like the 54, offers a range of accommodation layouts including the full-beam forward master suite, while common features include an enclosable flybridge and central stairs from the flybridge to the foredeck.

The Fountaine Pajot Power 67 is the French brand’s flagship powercat

Fountaine Pajot was scheduled to stage the world premiere of its Power 67 at the Olympic Yacht Show in Greece from October 1-4, but the event was cancelled earlier this month. A sister of the French builder’s Alegria 67 sailing cat that debuted in 2018, the Power 67 has a 32ft-plus beam and is by far the brand’s largest motor yacht, joining the 37, 40 and 44.

The Power 67 is available with the galley down or in the saloon, while outdoor spaces include a 390sqft cockpit, 340sqft flybridge and sunken lounge in the foredeck which can be fitted with a jacuzzi. The owner’s suite in the starboard hull is a 240sqft ‘private apartment’ with large dressing room and an Italian-style bathroom with two washbasins.

The 60 Sunreef Power joins the popular 80 that debuted at Cannes last year

Sunreef is preparing the world premiere of the 60 Power, which follows the 80 Power that debuted at Cannes last year and whose owners include Rafa Nadal, while a 70 is in development.

The Polish yard specialises in large, customised catamarans and the new 60-footer has an impressive beam of over 35ft, while its layout options include a galley-up version with six cabins for 12 guests plus crew cabins in both forepeaks. The 60’s superyacht strength is underlined by twin engine options that range from 300hp each to 850hp each, and a fuel capacity of 6,000 litres to 10,000 litres.

The Leopard 53 PC is the South African builder’s biggest powercat

The Leopard 53 PC built in South Africa had its global debut at Miami in February followed by a first unit into Asia in March, while French builder Bali is scheduled to complete its first Catspace MY by October, although its official premiere is scheduled for next year’s International Multihull Boat Show at La Grande Motte.

Bali will soon complete its new Catspace MY, but will premiere it in 2021

Amels – Damen Yachting will build the largest superyacht constructed in the Netherlands, with Imperial acting as the owner’s representative and build supervisor for the 120m project.

Amels and Damen Yachting shipyards have been selected to build the 120m Project Signature, the largest superyacht to be built in the Netherlands. Imperial is the owner’s representative and build supervisor of the superyacht, which has been designed by Espen Øino International and is expected to be delivered in 2025.Scheduled for delivery in 2025, the 120m Project Signature is a collaboration between Imperial, Amels and Damen Yachting, and Espen Øino International

Imperial has drawn the general arrangement with the support of Øino for design, and Amels and Damen Yachting for construction.

Project Signature has been designed to be an environmentally friendly superyacht, technically prepared for the standard Lloyds Register of Shipping EP (Environment Protection) notation. Powered by diesel-electric engines and Azipod propulsion, the superyacht will provide the lowest level of noise and vibration ever experienced on a yacht of this size, according to Monaco-based Imperial.

Imperial’s experience with 100m-plus superyachts includes being the build supervisor and then charter central agent for the 136m Flying Fox and the 107m Lana, and central agent for sale of the 106m Amadea.

Julia Stewart, Director of Imperial, said: “This day is a special one for Imperial. We confirm our leadership in the 100m-plus new construction range while proving our important knowledge helps to raise the level of our demanding and changing industry. Partnering with Amels and Damen Yachting shipyards makes sense for this project. They have a reputation of excellence and we value their high standards and results to deliver on record time.

“Collaborating with Espen Øino and his team is also a proof of excellence. Their expertise as well as their experience alongside Imperial will give a real value when it comes to serious matters. With this dream team at the helm, Project Signature will be one of the most striking, silent and advanced superyachts ever delivered.”

Project Signature marks the ninth collaboration between Imperial and Amels and Damen Yachting, who have delivered eight superyachts together since 2009.

Rose Damen, Managing Director of Amels and Damen Yachting, said: “We are extremely honoured to be selected for this major 120m superyacht project. This superyacht adds to our strong relationships with both Imperial and Espen Øino International. Everyone involved is very excited and looking forward to delivering the very best vessel for the owner.”

Espen Øino added: “We are obviously very enthusiastic to be a part of this exciting project, the largest ever built by Amels. Collaborating with the great teams from Imperial and Amels has strengthened our existing thriving relationships. Our team has worked tirelessly to create a yacht with a unique layout and a timeless external appearance blending edgy design with elegant curves. We very much look forward to seeing this impressive yacht come to life during the build process.”

Duthie Lidgard has become partner and Managing Director of Catalano Shipping Services (CSS) New Zealand.

Duthie Lidgard is the endorsed superyacht agent for Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the home of the America’s Cup.

Lidgard was formerly Director of Superyacht Support NZ, and CSS New Zealand carries on his role managing berth allocation for visiting yachts during the America’s Cup as the endorsed superyacht agent for Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the home of the America’s Cup after Team Emirates New Zealand won the trophy in Bermuda in 2017.

CSS New Zealand is based in the former Superyacht Support NZ office by Silo Marina, close to the America’s Cup compound, enabling Lidgard and his team to service yachts visiting for a packed calendar of events including the America’s Cup World Series (December 17-20), the Prada Cup (January 15-February 22) and the America’s Cup (March 6-21).

“It has been a swift transition to Catalano Shipping Services and it’s going very well because we’re very busy, which is a great feeling. We’re thrilled to bring an international brand with so much history and experience in yachting into New Zealand, particularly when the international spotlight is shining on us. The timing was perfect and we’re excited at what we’re going to be able to do,” Lidgard said.

“The great thing with big events like America’s Cup is they make everyone step up their game. I wanted to take what we were doing to another level and the Agents by Catalano team are the high tide mark.

“With the success of their Singapore and Indonesia offices, eyes were on the Pacific and New Zealand, in particular. Their systems, their standards and their support represent the future of the business for me. Hard work pays off and service, service, service is the key.”

Catalano Shipping Services and the A-Gents network has expanded into the Pacific after serving superyachts throughout the Mediterranean for decades. Also building on links to their offices in Singapore and Indonesia, partners in Panama and global network, the group aims to be in a prime position ahead of the 36th America’s Cup.

The group’s bid to become a more global brand is also designed to create wider supply channels and increase areas of support with refit, management and charter.
