CL Yachts has announced impressive results during the first sea trials of its pioneering new flagship CLX96.

CLX96 reached 24-25 knots during initial sea trials

CL Yachts has reported that its flagship CLX96 impressed during sea trials in January, reaching between 24-25 knots at full-load condition with weights simulating a tender and owners gear. The 96ft 9in motor yacht also performed well during tight manoeuvres.

Martin Lo, Director of CL Yachts, said: Our captain reported that the boat handled well and was very responsive to the helm. Two thrusters at the bow and stern provided a much higher level of confidence when docking.

CLX96 was designed by Jozeph Forakis

“CLX96 operates smoothly throughout her RPM range. Thanks to her stabilisation options, including a Quick MC56 gyro stabiliser and Sleipner Side-Power fins, she is very steady in a seaway as well.”

CLX96 features an exterior and interior by industrial designer Jozeph Forakis, as CL Yachts sought an outsider’s view to challenge conventional design. Its distinctive profile includes reverse-angle windscreens on the main and upper decks, as well as the aft end of the main-deck superstructure.

CLX96 will show in Hong Kong in spring

The yacht features only one helm, in the enclosed skylounge, outdoor social areas forward on the upper and main decks, a flexible, extendable beach club, and four lower-deck guest cabins.

“CLX96 is a concerted effort to mark the real deal behind our brand,” Lo said. “We wanted a fresh approach to the norm, and we did that by allowing Jozeph the freedom to create something different and unique, while holding true to our core values of quality, innovation and uncompromising seaworthiness.”

CLX96 is currently out of the water for final fitting. More sea trials will be conducted prior to the yacht’s Asia debut in Hong Kong this spring, while its world premiere is scheduled for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 26-30.

Asiamarine has recently delivered the first Nimbus T8 in Hong Kong to its owner. The regional dealer has represented the Swedish boat builder in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam since late 2021, and the T8 in Hong Kong was sold to a Swedish client.

Winner of the Sportsboats & Ribs category in the 2021 Motor Boat Awards, the T8 from the Tender series is based on an air-lubricated, stepped hull with excellent seafaring qualities and a low planing threshold. Propulsion options are a Mercury Verado V6 (200hp) or V8 (250hp or 300hp) outboard engine, offering a cruising speed of 20-35 knots and a top speed over 40 knots.

The Hong Kong unit features a T-top with Lexan roof

Joacim Gustavsson, Chief Designer at Nimbus, said: “The T8 provides stable, safe and quiet performance, which makes it easy to operate the boat at high speed. The construction quality and excellent seaworthiness and handling, combined with superior speed resources, invite a more active style of driving that still feels safe and secure.

“This boat is a functional day tender for those who appreciate genuine Scandinavian design and value, well-considered solutions, and comfort.”

The T8 has a length of 26ft 2in (7.93m)

As shown on the Hong Kong unit, the T8 can be fitted with a T-top with Lexan roof that provides sun protection, while an additional canopy can cover the aft deck. In the covered area, the two helm seats are reversible and the table is foldable, while the aft sofa fits both forward-facing and aft-facing passengers and has a flexible back rest that can even fold down to produce a large sunbed.

Under the aft sofa is space for a retractable refrigerator and easily accessible equipment area. The aft deck features a shower outlet and storage compartments on each side.

The pilot seats can reverse to face the foldable table

The T8 features a wide walk-around design and a forward-facing sofa in the bow, which can offer an optional sunbed and conceals a large hatch with loading access to the cabin. The double cabin is accessed by stairs forward of the co-pilot seat to port.

Founded in 1968, Nimbus builds boats from 26-44ft (7.9m-13.3m) across four ranges: Tender (T8, T9, T11), Commuter (C8, C9 and C11), Day Cruisers (Weekender 9, 305 Drophead) and Cruisers (305, 365, 405, 405 Flybridge).

Princess is showcasing eight of its yachts at the ‘The Princess Exclusive’ event, which is being held at the historic Royal William Yard Marina in the British builder’s home city of Plymouth from January 22-30.

The event provides the first public display of the X80 and the V50, which were both scheduled to debut at Boot Dusseldorf in Germany before the world’s largest indoor boat show was postponed for a second year.

‘The Princess Exclusive’ also marks the first time the X80 has been seen alongside the X95, which is the biggest model in the eight-yacht line-up and spearheads the brand’s new X Collection of high-volume models featuring an extra-long flybridge and enclosed skylounge.

The V50 is another new model for 2022

Other models at the nine-day exhibition include the Y72, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival last September and is among the builder’s range of larger flybridge yachts. The F55 flybridge motor yacht and V55 cruiser are also on show, in addition to the V40 and the S62 sportbridge.

Will Green, Chief Commercial Officer of Princess Yachts, said: “We are thrilled to be able to showcase our models in our brand home of Plymouth. This is the first-time our customers will be able to experience the all-new X80, an exciting addition to the award-winning X Class range.”

Princess is hosting employees on selected evenings so they can view the finished yachts in a show environment, a rare opportunity for those working on the production line. Princess will be operating a Covid-19 safe environment throughout the show with visits operated by appointment only.

“The proximity of Royal William Yard to our factories around Plymouth also allows our employees and the local community to be able to see a boat show line-up on their doorstep,” Green said. “We are extremely grateful to the team at Royal William Yard Marina and at Urban Splash for helping us bring this incredible event to life, as well as to the resident berth-holders for allowing us to borrow their unique location.”

Gulf Craft has announced that it’s developing a new facility in the Maldives, so doubling its operations and production capacity in the country within 16 months. Founded and headquartered in the UAE in 1982, the builder is marking its 20th anniversary of operating in the Maldives, where it has a 100,000sqft manufacturing facility in Thilafushi producing pleasure boats and rapid transport vessels.

Gulf Craft says it provides almost 80 per cent of the Maldives’ water transportation services, which includes public transport, coast guard, emergency and ambulance services, resorts, and leisure boats.

Last year, the shipyard was awarded a government contract to manufacture a fleet of speed boats for use across the country’s Integrated National Public Ferry Network.

The new speed boats, with a capacity of up to 53 passengers, will offer a transportation system to all administrative islands including the capital of Malé. The boats will be equipped with special packages for passengers travelling in emergency situations and will include access for stretchers and people with disabilities.

To produce the new speed boats, Gulf Craft will invest in a strategic development in the Maldives named Gulf Lagoon, where it will open its new production facility and create a new training facility for captains and crew. The development will also feature a marina and a resort.

Mohammed Alshaali, co-founder and Chairman of Gulf Craft (click for Asia’s Yachting Leaders 2022), said: “The Government of the Maldives and its people have constantly been a beacon of support since the establishment of our operations. We are grateful to the Maldives for entrusting Gulf Craft with projects that have played a part in the growth of the nation over these 20 years.

“The Maldives is our first international destination, where we have built in-country competencies by leveraging the opportunities that the country provides for the marine and tourism sector. With the doubling of our production capacity and the new training facility, we hope to serve the local community even better through the creation of new job opportunities and in further boosting tourism.”

Founded in the United Arab Emirates in 1982, Gulf Craft is celebrating its 40th anniversary, having built more than 10,000 boats in its four decades. It currently has over 1,000 employees across its two facilities in the UAE and its operation in the Maldives, with a total manufacturing capacity of 200 boats per year.

Indonesia’s Bahtera Bahari Shipyard on the southeast coast of Batam Island – which is a 45-minute ferry ride from Singapore – has built J7Explorer for a prominent Indonesian businessman. The yacht was launched last November, with online videos showing J7Explorer being rolled backwards on huge inflatable tubes into the sea.

Super Yacht Times has listed the yacht’s length as 120m (394ft), with a volume of 5,000GT. The yacht has a very large open aft deck, suitable for vehicles and water toys, and a similarly large foredeck area.

Yacht Style approached the shipyard via a third party for more information and were informed: “As per agreement with the owner from day one, no further information is to be shared at this point.”

Bahtera Bahari Shipyard’s previous builds include the 40m Gaia Love, a steel tri-deck motor yacht with 11 guest cabins used for dive trips in Indonesia.

The Dutch builder has uncovered the 71m Juice, an all-aluminium build for a repeat Feadship client inspired by modern art.

The 71.1m Juice has left Feadship’s enormous construction hall in Amsterdam. Built for a repeat Feadship client, the yacht was designed by RWD in collaboration with the owner and features an interior by Peter Marino. The Dutch shipyard handled naval architecture of the yacht, which has an aluminium hull and superstructure, and an 11.7m beam.

The owner is a keen collector of modern art and the 3D logo of the name on the funnel is inspired by the 1967 work, Juice, by American artist Ed Ruscha, while the client’s involvement with the interior extended to personally selecting pieces of veneer for the central staircase.

Juice has a complete owner’s deck with stateroom, office and saloon between the main and bridge decks, and features four guest suites on the main deck, while there’s accommodation for 24 crew. Highlights include a large beach club, cinema on the lower deck and gym on the sun deck.

All structural parts of the exterior, including the base of the 8m pool on the main deck, are finished in polished stainless steel. Transparent features, including the railings and the sides of the pool, are made of glass, while large, glazed panels ensure unrestricted views.
