Wally reveals revolutionary WHY200

Wally reveals revolutionary WHY200

SHARE

Wally will reveal the high-volume, wide-body WHY200 at September’s Ferretti Group Private Preview, showcasing a 200GT yacht with a sub-24m load line length.

The WHY200 has an overall length of 27m but a load line length of under 24m

Wally has revealed the spectacular design of its WHY200, which will debut at the Ferretti Group Private Preview in Monaco at the beginning of September.

The name represents the widebody yacht’s 200GT volume, a remarkable offering on an overall length of 27m (88ft 9in), yet the yacht has a sub-24m load line length, with the ‘pleasure craft’ classification greatly reducing crew, operating and berthing costs.

The WHY200 has more than 200sqm (2,153sqft) of indoor living space and 144sqm (1,550sqft) of exterior space, which Ferretti Group says is ‘up to 50 per cent more living space than traditional yachts of its length’ and offers ‘the living space and lifestyle advantages of a 33m (110ft) superyacht’.

Fold-out wings expand the beach club area giving access to the sea on three sides and two concealed garages stow numerous water toys and a big tender.

Fold-out wings expand the beach club area, giving access to the sea on three sides

Stefano de Vivo, Wally Managing Director, said: “Through the WHY200, we are challenging preconceived notions of what a yacht should be and how it can be used. It is a platform that can be enjoyed by the whole family or groups of friends, without compromise.

“In keeping the yacht registration under 24m load line, we have been able to optimise the costs of running and berthing, while still providing the space and volume benefits of a much larger vessel thanks to its innovative full-wide-body design.”

The full-beam saloon features a central carbon-fibre staircase

Wally founder Luca Bassani designed the yacht alongside Ferretti Group’s Engineering department, with Laurent Giles NA handling naval architecture and A. Vallicelli & C Studio responsible for interior design.

An extended pillarless overhang above the main deck aft and flanking glass panels provide shelter to the alfresco dining and lounging area, which has unobstructed views on three sides and flows into the open-space saloon past sliding full-height doors.

The main-deck master suite is in the bow

The main deck has no side decks and an open-plan saloon that benefits from a structural central carbon-fibre staircase linking the three decks, while the 37sqm (400sqft) owner’s suite in the bow has remarkable views through windows wrapped around the prow.

Bassani, Wally’s Chief Designer, said:We have had a longstanding vision to create a wrap-around main deck in glass that would provide so many lifestyle benefits to the owner and now finally the technology has made this possible, unlocking game-changing extra interior volume on this deck.

The 400sqft owner’s suite enjoys spectacular views

“It has allowed us to create a sensational and unprecedented 37sqm owner’s suite at the bow, which takes the on board experience to a whole new level. Imagine waking up to uninterrupted 200-degree views through vast windows in the bow, as if you’re floating above the water.”

On the flybridge, the wheelhouse and sky lounge are stylishly encased in glass with a carbon superstructure that echoes the clean, angular aesthetic of the Wallypower motor yachts.

The interior skylounge (above) and wheelhouse (below)

The WHY200 is the first Wally Hybrid Yacht, optimised for both full- and semi-displacement cruising. With an adaptive multi-propulsion system, the WHY200 has been designed to cruise at an impressive 20 knots in hyper displacement mode. And when speed is less important than efficiency, the yacht performs economically in long-range displacement mode.

After exhaustive testing in a towing tank, the functionally-led hull form has been optimised to deliver a comfortable experience at a wide range of speeds.

The WHY200 hullform is tested in the Solent University in Southampton

De Vivo added: “We always strive to push the limits of what is possible in yachting, and in doing so look to pave the way for the next 20 years. Designing the WHY200 has been a genuinely exciting process.

“We took a step back and asked ourselves why owners of yachts in this size bracket love spending time on their vessels and how this could be improved. Space and time are two of the most important factors on everyone’s wish list and I believe we’ve delivered these in abundance on the WHY200.”

Asia Yachting hosts the regional premiere of Monte Carlo Yachts’ first Skylounge model on Facebook Live.

The MCY 70 Skylounge will be unveiled in the online Asian Premiere

The Asian Premiere of the MCY 70 Skylounge will be held on Facebook Live on Thursday evening at 7.00pm Hong Kong/Singapore time. Asia Yachting, the regional dealer for Monte Carlo Yachts, is organising the January 14 online premiere, with complimentary registration at: https://bit.ly/35cvOKk

Olivier Besson, CEO of Asia Yachting, “We hope to have everyone joining us for Asia Yachting’s virtual launch of the MCY 70 Skylounge and look forward to greeting you in person for the exclusive viewings on board.”

The MCY 70 Skylounge is among the yachts reviewed in Yacht Style’s Issue 57 (Jan/Feb 2021). The model was unveiled for the first time in Miami last February before arriving in Hong Kong late last year and is available for private viewings through prior registration.

The aft deck of the flybridge, most of which is enclosed for an extra level of year-round use

Like all Monte Carlo Yachts models, the Skylounge Collection – which also includes a version of the MCY 76 –  was designed by Italy’s Nuvolari-Lenard. Both models feature an enclosed flybridge containing the sole helm station, which provides an extra level of indoor space for year-round use and frees up more room in the forward area of the main-deck interior.

Fraser CEO Raphael Sauleau said the sizes of the largest yachts sold last year were similar to 2019, in the latest in an exclusive Fraser Marketing Intelligence series for Yacht Style.

“Data on the largest yachts sold revealed that the combined lengths of the top 10 yachts sold in 2020 totalled almost the exact same figure, 760m, as in 2019. These included Fraser sales such as the 74m CRN Lady Jorgia and the 67m Aurora Borealis, to name but a few,” Sauleau said.

“The fact that 2020 had little impact on the size of yachts sold highlights that buyers are more passionate than ever about getting back on the water and enjoying the rewarding benefits of yacht ownership.

“This trend was underscored by Fraser client sales, resulting in the brokerage house being headlined in a recent industry report as the only worldwide provider to top the rankings for sales in all size sectors. So, while the market is still moving, we can look ahead with optimism.”

Jochen Rudat, who spent a decade with Tesla in Europe, has become a member of the Silent-Yachts advisory board. Rudat joined Tesla in 2009 and from 2016-2019 was Director of Central Europe, reporting directly to Elon Musk. In May 2020, he founded Electric Ventures and Muchbetterelectric, having spent eight months as Chief Sales Officer of Pininfarina.

Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent-Yachts, said: “We are very happy to welcome Jochen to the team. Next to the fact that Jochen shares the same passion and enthusiasm for the electric future as we do, the knowledge and experience he brings to the table will be valuable for Silent-Yachts to successfully master future plans and challenges.”

Silent-Yachts builds solar-electric luxury catamarans and currently has 10 yachts under construction at shipyards in Thailand and Italy.

Silent-Yachts is building the first units of its Silent 60 in Thailand

Rudat said: “I see the same transition happening in the yachting industry as in the automotive industry. Since Silent-Yachts clearly is the leading pioneer of this change, I am eager to provide my support and advise on their further path. As the initiating catalyst for a more sustainable future in luxury yachting, we want to continue to drive innovation towards the right direction.

“I see a lot of parallels between Tesla and Silent-Yachts such as the latter’s commitment of creating a solar-powered catamaran from scratch by starting off with a white canvas and a bold vision. With this in mind, I understand and agree why Silent-Yachts has been labelled by media as the ‘Tesla of the Seas’.”

Sales Of Williams Tenders Rise In Greater China

Sales of Williams Tenders Rise in Greater China

SHARE

The surge of boating in Hong Kong has led to an increase in sales for Williams tenders in Greater China.

Williams tenders are used by many of the world’s leading motor yacht builders

Williams Jet Tenders has announced “exceptional sales across Asia” in 2020, led by the boating boom in Hong Kong after Covid-enforced travel restrictions early in the year led to more people using boats and a surge in yacht sales in the city.

Adam Waters, General Manager of Williams Tenders Greater China, said: “Williams Jet Tenders has seen significant demand in the market during the past year and has fast become one of the most popular tenders in places such as Hong Kong. There were more people boating and exploring, with many customers using their boats more for overnight trips.

“Williams’ tenders are some of the most versatile on the market for transportation, water-skiing, wakeboarding and general cruising, making them both a necessity and a fun accessory for those trips. Hong Kong’s boating also largely centres around family trips and public beaches, so the safety and peace of mind that a Williams jet tender brings is a huge draw.”

The DieselJet 415 will be released early this year

Appointed in May 2019, Williams Tenders Greater China covers Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China, and is among over 56 dealers in the British manufacturer’s global sales and servicing network. The Greater China dealer has multiple offices and a dedicated after-sales service centre in Hong Kong, plus further offices on the mainland including in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Dalian.

Founded in 2005, Williams produces tenders suitable for boats from 38ft through to superyachts. The company has strong relationships with leading motor yacht manufacturers including British builders Sunseeker, Princess and Fairline, Italy’s Azimut-Benetti, Ferretti Group and Sanlorenzo, and French brands Jeanneau and Beneteau, with many models designed to accommodate a Williams tender.

Williams offers 14 models in five ranges: MiniJet (280), TurboJet (285, 325), SportJet (345, 395, 435, 460, 520), DieselJet (415, 445, 505, 565, 625) and EvoJet (70), a 7m (23ft) superyacht tender with an inboard diesel engine and seating for 13.

ClubSwan 80 to debut in 2021

ClubSwan 80 to debut in 2021

SHARE

The first ClubSwan 80 will launch in 2021, with the Finnish builder hoping to have three units competing in the following year’s Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.

The ClubSwan 80 joins a ClubSwan fleet also featuring 36, 50 and 125 models

The ClubSwan line will be expanded in 2021 with the introduction of the first ClubSwan 80, designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian. The first ClubSwan 125 is also in build and the two new models will complement the ClubSwan 50 and 36, launched by Nautor’s Swan in 2016 and 2019 respectively.

Enrico Chieffi, Vice President of the Nautor Group, said: “The ClubSwan 80 project was born for two reasons. First, because clearly our line deserves a new yacht of this kind. Second, we see a space in the maxi world for a high-performance yacht that will fill a regatta system now lacking something like this.”

For the construction of the ClubSwan 80, Nautor’s Swan is working with Persico Marine, based in Nembro in northern Italy, an international shipyard renowned worldwide for its expertise in building high-performance yachts.

Juan Kouyoumdjian designed the ClubSwan 80, having designed the 50, 36 and 125

“Hull one is under construction and our goal is to have three ClubSwan 80 boats in the water racing at the Rolex Maxi Worlds in Porto Cervo in 2022. The idea is to create a class of identical yachts, unique in the world of maxis,” Chieffi said.

“We expect a lot of traction out of this. We see this as an exciting new challenge. A class of this size and of this magnitude has never been achieved and realised by anyone in the past, but we believe it’s time to do it.”

The ClubSwan 80 has been designed as a very fast, high-performance yacht in line with her sisters, based on the concept of one-design yachts. The model is designed to sail in short races, participate in the traditional maxi regattas and specialise in light to medium winds (VMG sailing).

Nautor’s Swan hopes to have three ClubSwan 80s ready for the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in 2022

The new model features a canting keel of 4.75m, twin rudders and a canard. More specifically, a rotating canard has been adopted for sailing in short racing in light/medium winds (VMG) and to grant flexibility in tactical situations, common in tight fleet racing.

The long, retractable bowsprit, together with the light displacement related to the canting keel, is expected to produce great speeds downwind.

The yacht has a minimal, stylish interior with the aim of combining high performance with a degree of comfort inside. A more luxurious version with a full set of options is also available, although potentially compromising sailing performance.

The ClubSwan 80 is designed to participate in traditional maxi regattas as well as one-design racing

“You can buy comfort, but you can’t buy performance,” Chieffi said. “This is very important for the concept of the one-design class, so the base yacht is the fastest and lightest boat you can get.”

Since 2002, when the Swan 45 was first launched, Swan has managed its own one-design circuit of events based on the owner-driver concept.

Popular member of the Asian yachting industry passed away peacefully on Tuesday, with many in Hong Kong and around the world sharing sadness and tributes.

The Asian yachting community has been saddened to hear that David Neish passed away in Hong Kong on Tuesday, December 22. He was 72.

David was a well-known and popular figure in the industry since joining Asia-Pacific Boating as Advertising Manager in August 2005, later becoming Advertising Director. He worked for the publication until late 2018, when he co-founded Farfalla Marine with Mark Denny-Fairchilde.

Born in Hong Kong, he attended King George V school. He moved to England to study photography at the London College of Printing (now London College of Communication) and pursued his passion as a commercial and still-life photographer in the capital.

David returned to Hong Kong in 1987 and worked in the film industry and advertising. He then moved to the super car industry, working for Ferrari, before joining the yachting industry.

He was a prominent and popular figure at many boat shows and events across Asia and a regular visitor to the Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show each September, as well as other international shows.

Gael Burlot, publisher of Yacht Style, said: “Like so many in the industry, we were heartbroken to hear about David, who many of us have been close to since he joined the industry. He was very well liked across the yachting field in Asia and by many more in the industry worldwide.

“We’ve shared and received so many tributes and kind words about him, and it was clear he made friends wherever he went. Many are shocked, but one nicely captured his spirit when he wrote ‘David was one of the coolest and friendliest people I know. He really was one of a kind’. We’re all sad to say goodbye to a dear friend.”

Faced with travel restrictions, superyacht charterers turned to destinations closer to home in 2020. Meanwhile, owners looking to buy a brand-new superyacht could consider a significant number of in-build yachts ready to buy, according to insights into market trends by global brokerage house Fraser.

In an exclusive Fraser Marketing Intelligence series for Yacht Style, Fraser CEO Raphael Sauleau said: “In terms of pre-owned yachts, demand for ownership has strengthened during 2020, outpacing the 11-year annual average by 26 per cent. For buyers looking for a new yacht, several yards are offering yachts already in build, meaning a shorter wait time.

Sauleau continued: “While ownership booms, charter has been more affected by travel restrictions and a lack of open destinations. Without long-haul options, charter clients turned closer to home.

“When Fraser invited charterers to rediscover local regions through our ‘Take a New Look…’ campaign, we saw a surge in demand among US clients for New England and for Europeans in Corsica, Italy and Croatia. The Bahamas and Florida hold significant interest for winter.

Supernova, a Sanlorenzo SD126, is available for sale through Fraser

“Charter clients are as keen as ever to escape on the water. This year, 50 per cent of Fraser clients went ahead with their charters as planned and enjoyed the benefits of time away. Of the remaining 50 per cent, half of these postponed their charter to enjoy at a later date.”

Custom Line has reported a significant rise in its order book following the sale of seven yachts totalling over 200m from September to November, which followed five orders during the summer.

The new orders will be built at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona, home of Custom Line and CRN, as well as Riva and Pershing’s biggest models.

Custom Line has launched 15 yachts during 2020 including the first Navetta 30, a product of the brand’s new collaboration with architect Filippo Salvetti for the exteriors and design firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel for the interiors.

The sales in the latter part of the year underline the popularity of Custom Line yachts, which produces models from 30-42m across its planing line (106’, 120’) and Navetta range (30, 33, 37, 42). A Navetta 33 in was recently delivered to Hong Kong.
