SKAYR Yachts develops stylish SK Renanda One ‘with Asian market in mind’

SKAYR Yachts develops stylish SK Renanda One ‘with Asian market in mind’

SHARE

Indonesian architect Raul Renanda has designed the SK Renanda One, a sleek dayboat conceived for Asian markets that features open social areas and a luxurious double cabin.

SKAYR Yachts is developing the SK Renanda One, a stylish 40ft luxury express cruiser designed by Raul Renanda, an architect, artist and sculptor whose recent work includes the sailboat-influenced Sjuman+Renanda concert grand piano designed with award-winning composer Aksan Sjuman.

SKAYR Yachts was founded by Firman Santoso, Nino Kusumaatmadja and Raul Renanda

Renanda has also cited sailboats as an inspiration in his architecture, paintings and sculptures, and his desire to design a yacht led him to collaborate with Firman Santoso, a luxury property specialist and yachting enthusiast.

Architect Raul Renanda Designs His First-Ever Grand Acoustic Piano

Inspired by the majestic movement of sails, self-taught pianist, architect and abstract painter, Raul Renanda, stepped beyond his expertise in designing hotels and luxury residences, to craft a state-of-the-art grand piano. Envisioning a highly evolved and modernized grand piano, Renanda aimed to create a coherent design, suitable for the contemporary work he often practices.

The pair then enlisted the services of Nino Kusumaatmadja, a naval architect for over two decades, to create SKAYR, with the name representing the initials of their surnames, SKR (Santoso, Kusumaatmadja, Renanda).

Raul Renanda is the creative mind behind the SK Renanda One

“Raul came to me with the idea of designing and making yachts, and we involved Nino due to his experience as a naval architect, sailor and boat owner,” said Santoso, who studied architecture at university with Renanda and later worked in the yacht charter industry.

“Nino is an agroecology enthusiast who puts environmental issues as an important focus in his designs. He leads the technical advisory on each boat built by SKAYR. He selects the best materials and components for each product, plus new technology to balance usability and reliability as well as to reduce the environmental impact.”

The 40ft yacht will be fitted with twin 440hp diesel engines for a top speed of 30 knots

Pitched as ‘sensible luxury’, the SK Renanda One is designed to be owner operated and has a day capacity of eight people, which can include a skipper and crew. The first hull will be fitted with twin 440hp diesel engines for an expected top speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of 25.

“SKAYR’s vision is to combine high-end craftsmanship with emotional design and a focus on user experience,” Santoso says. “Raul and I focus a lot on the user because of our experience in creating luxury residences and a boat is basically a property on the water. Having carefully studied flow and space experiences in our architectural projects, we’re implementing it in our yachts.”

The SK Renanda One has a luxurious forward cabin, with seating areas on both sides

Designed for warm climates, the SK Renanda One features two fixed lounge beds that face aft over the swim platform and can double as facing sofas. Forward, under a hardtop, are bench seats either side of an adjustable table, a wet bar and a central helm seat. An open version without hardtop is also available.

“It’s a modern but classic-style yacht designed with the Asian market in mind,” Santoso said. “It’s very comfortable for six to eight people to enjoy for the day. It’s essentially a day boat with an open exterior, but with plenty of shade. There’s also a great air-conditioned cabin and comfortable shower facilities, so it’s suitable for overnight stays.”

The cabin also has two TV screens and an ensuite bathroom with separate shower

The forward cabin has an aft-facing double bed with two TV screens and seating on both sides, access to a bathroom with separate shower, while a high-end AV system also provides music outside.

The yacht is being built in Bali and Europe, with the first unit scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2022.

Shot in Venice, the short film stars Pierfrancesco Favino and co-stars an Aquariva, while a 300-page book pays tribute to the 39 films that Riva yachts have appeared in.

Riva in the Movie makes its official debut on September 4 during the Venice Film Festival, which will be attended by the film’s star, Pierfrancesco Favino, also the leading actor and co-producer of Padrenostro, the competition film directed by Claudio Noce.

Pierfrancesco Favino stars in and narrates Riva in the Movie

Favino also narrates Riva in the Movie, which features him crossing Piazza San Marco just before dawn, in moonlight filtering through an evocative fog, and boarding an Aquariva. His goal is to navigate Venice’s canals to deliver a mysterious mahogany object to an equally mysterious recipient. The finale comes as a big surprise.

With a creative concept developed by Armando Testa, the film is directed by Federico Brugia and co-stars Beatrice Schiaffino and Andrea Bordoli.

An Aquariva features in the short film, which was directed by Federico Brugia

Shot entirely in Venice, the film’s locations include Piazza San Marco, Rialto bridge, the Lido and the Palazzo del Cinema, taking viewers on a journey through the canals and wonders of the beautiful city.

Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group, said: “The celebration of cinema with Riva’s magnificent boats, which have starred in so many films and introduced the whole world to Italian style and creativity: that is our aspiration for Riva in the Movie, a powerful short film starring the most accomplished and famous Italian actor in the world, Pierfrancesco Favino, against the backdrop of Venice’s splendours. Riva in the Movie is dedicated to everyone who believes in the magical power of imagination and talent.”

Riva in the Movie was shot entirely in Venice

Riva’s iconic mahogany and contemporary boats have appeared in films across more than 70 years, from global blockbusters like James Bond movies, Nikita and Men in Black to major Italian hits like Mambo, La Baia di Napoli and Il Sorpasso, and multiple award-winning art house films like La Grande Bellezza.

Their story is also told in a 300-page book, also titled Riva in the Movie, which covers 39 films and includes original film posters, hundreds of superb on-set and backstage photographs, 77 actors and 110 actresses.

Riva in the Movie is also a 300-page book about Riva’s history in film

Riva’s history in film will also be the subject of an exhibition at The Gritti Palace, where the Riva Lounge offers spectacular views over the Canal Grande. The exhibition will tell the story of the numerous films in which Riva boats have played an important role alongside Italian and international movie stars.

Ferretti Group shows second Pershing 140 at Private Preview in Monaco

Following the delivery of the first Pershing 140 to a repeat Ferretti Group owner in Hong Kong, the Italian brand showcases the second unit of its breathtaking flagship.

The second Pershing 140 will be shown at the invitation-only Ferretti Group Private Preview at the Monaco Yacht Club from September 3-6.

The second Pershing 140 follows the first unit delivered to Hong Kong last year

The all-aluminium superyacht, Pershing’s flagship, was built at Ferretti Group’s Super Yacht Yard in Ancona, which specialises in 40m-plus steel and aluminium yachts.

The first Pershing 140, the brand’s first model to be built in the Ancona yard, was delivered to a Hong Kong owner last year and used in Europe over the summer before it arrived in his home city.

The foredeck ‘cover’ retracts to reveal a jacuzzi and sunken lounge

In contrast to the Hong Kong hull, which features a bar, dining room and entertainment room forward on the main deck, the second unit features the model’s original layout featuring a huge owner’s suite forward of the main-deck saloon and dining area.

The owner’s suite starts with a studio and small lounge, has a full-beam bedroom with forward-facing bed, while forward is a full-beam walk-in wardrobe and a huge bathroom in the bow.

On hull two, the master suite is forward on the main deck

The yacht also features materials and furniture produced by renowned brands including long-time Pershing partner Poltrona Frau, Minotti, Artemide, Roche Bobois, Molteni&C and Fontana Arte.

The yacht’s standout features include a stunning beach area that can be extended by opening the three fold-out sides, while the sleek lines include two lateral wings integrated into the superstructure and connected to the gunwale at the start of the walkways.

The beach area features an extendable swim platform and drop-down sides

The Pershing 140 was designed by naval architect Fulvio De Simoni in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and the Group’s Engineering Department.

The interior design can be fully customised with the designers at Studio Fulvio De Simoni and the project architects at the Ferretti Group Super Yacht Yard.

The third Pershing 140 is now under construction at the Super Yacht Yard and will be launched in 2021.

The general public and members of the yachting industry are invited to attend this year’s Asia Boating Dialogue, which comprises 120-minute, free-to-register webinars on September 22 and 29. Please scroll down for the list of speakers and event website for free registration.

Session One (Southeast & South Asia) will focus on India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand, and will be held at 4.00pm (SIN/HKG) on Tuesday, September 22.

Session Two (East & Northeast Asia) will be held at 4.00pm (SIN/HKG) on Tuesday, September 29, and focus on China, Hong Kong & Macau, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The event is organised by the Singapore Boating Industry Association (SBIA) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association (HKBIA), and supported by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), the world body for the recreational boating industry.

The Dialogue series was inaugurated in Singapore in 2015 as ‘ICOMIA – The Asian Dialogue’. It was an invitation-only event designed to engage the Asian boating community, help it become more institutionalised and organise collective thinking. It was subsequently promoted as the Asia Boating Forum. YP Loke, Chair of SBIA, believes the new online version will greatly expand its reach.

“Running the Asia Boating Dialogue as a webinar enables us to reach a wider audience than in previous events. It will engage a new audience who would not normally travel abroad to a boat show,” Loke said.

“We need to start a conversation about boating in Asia, join the dots between countries and build a shared community with the same goals and aspirations for boating in Asia. Although Covid-19 has caused borders in most countries to close, we all need to work with our respective agencies to find ways to re-open borders and revive nautical tourism.”

Like with previous sessions, the Asia Boating Dialogue consists of country updates followed by a round-table discussion, and registered viewers will also be able to submit questions. A limited number of spots are being made available for sponsors and special interest groups.

Lawrence Chow, Chair of HKBIA and an ICOMIA Executive Committee member, said: “In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Asia Boating Dialogue provides the perfect platform for regional industry leaders to share the current difficulties they are facing and provide ideas for how the industry in Asia can adapt to the post Covid-19 era.

“It also opens up the opportunity to identify and understand the typical obstacles for growth in Asia. Through discussions, we will get a better insight for the current state of the industry and set the blueprint for recovery in Asia.”

Udo Kleinitz, ICOMIA’s Secretary-General, added: “We are pleased to continue supporting this event which ICOMIA initiated in 2015. We want to continue our engagement in Asia, build our base, and help our members promote the boating industry in their countries.”

Session One Speakers (September 22)
India: Aashim Mongia, Indian Marine Federation (IMF)
Indonesia: Robin Engel, Indonesian Marine Tourism Association (GAHAWISRI)
Malaysia: Oh Kean Shen, Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM)
Philippines: Apa Ongpin, Federation of Philippines Marine Industries
Singapore: Darren Oh, Singapore Boating Industry Association (SBIA)
Sri Lanka: Gamini Herath, Boat Building Technology Improvement Institute (BTI)

British builders unveil line-ups for British Marine-organised event at Mayflower Park.

Sunseeker is scheduled to show its new Manhattan 68 – which debuted at Boot Dusseldorf in January – among six yachts at the new BOATS2020 show, which will be held at Mayflower Park in Southampton from September 11-20.

Held in place of the cancelled Southampton International Boat Show, the register-only event is expected to feature about 80-90 yachts.
A Sunseeker 95 Yacht is expected to be the show’s biggest boat, while the Poole builder’s display will also include a 76 Yacht, 74 Sport Yacht, Predator 50 and Predator 60 EVO™, a model launched last year.

Sunseeker Manhattan 68: Toy Story Proves a Winner For All Ages

What do you get the yachtsman who has everything? How about a yacht that can store it all. The aft end of the Sunseeker Manhattan 68 has been attracting serious buyers and ogling onlookers since the model debuted at Boot Dusseldorf earlier this year followed by its US debut at the Miami Yacht Show.

Sean Robertson, Sunseeker’s Sales Director, said: “Sunseeker is excited to confirm our participation at BOATS2020, with an on-land hospitality suite and six boats from 50-95ft in our water display.

“We will be working closely together with British Marine to provide a safe, controlled environment in which all guests can enjoy the experience and in doing so making BOATS2020 a real success.”

Fairline, based inland in Oundle, will show its flagship Squadron 68, Squadron 50, Targa 45 Open and F//Line 33.

Later in the month, the builder will then display its iconic F//Line 33 at Salon Privé, the UK’s most exclusive motor show, which will be held at Blenheim Palace outside Oxford from September 23-26.

Peter McNulty, COO of Fairline Yachts, said: “We are looking forward to attending Salon Privé with the debut of the F//Line 33, our award-winning luxurious dayboat.

“We know that many of the attendees love boats just as much as they do cars, and we’re sure her stunning styling, sporty performance and quality craftsmanship will appeal.”

Sunreef and Galeon, Poland’s best-known luxury yacht builders, were among prominent local shipyards supporting the first Polboat Yachting Festival, held in the north-coast city of Gdynia in late August. Visitors had to register with Polboat (Polish Chamber of Yacht Industry and Water Sports) to visit boats at the four-day show, which was held at the new Marina Yacht Park.

The first Polboat Yachting Festival was held at the new Marina Yacht Park in Gdynia

The Yachting Festival was organised by Polboat in less than a month and followed the cancellation of this year’s Wind and Water editions in both Warsaw (March) and Gdynia (July), and the bankruptcy of the shows’ organiser.

Sunreef, based in the neighbouring city of Gdansk, displayed a Sunreef 60 Eco-Electric sailing catamaran and the China-owned Sunreef 80 Double Happiness, the event’s biggest yacht, which hosted an opening ceremony featuring VIPs from the industry, state and local administration. Fellow Gdansk builder Galeon showed its flagship 680 Fly along with 460 Fly and 335 HTS motor yachts.

The Chinese-owned Sunreef 80 Double Happiness was the show’s biggest yacht

Delphia’s three boats included its 1200 BluEscape Fly, while other Polish brands on show included Northman, Parker, Mongird, Etiuda and Viko. International brands, some of which have models produced in Poland, included Bavaria, Bayliner, Dufour, Flipper, Four Winns, Grand Soleil, Hanse, Invictus and Saxdor.

Michal Bak, Secretary General of Polboat, said: “Polboat decided to organise an event that would give exhibitors the opportunity to present vessels on the water and conduct meetings with industry colleagues, customers and prospects, while maintaining all required safety rules.

Galeon showed its flagship 680 Fly (pictured), as well as a 460 Fly and a 335 HTS

“All our employees wore masks or visors, disinfectants were available in the marina, and the flow of people was controlled to maintain social distance. Every day, exhibitors and visitors had their temperature measured, while yachts were aired and disinfected after each group of visitors.”

Announcements and details of the yachts and exhibitors were shown on a big screen, which was also used to broadcast interviews with celebrity guests, to avoid crowds in front of stages.

Polboat is planning to organise new indoor shows in the spring and autumn

“It was organised in a short time, but the first Yachting Festival turned out to be a huge success that brought together all the most important yacht builders and dealers. The format combined with a large increase in yachting – as a recreational activity conducive to social distancing – resulted in a very large number of contracts and orders for new yachts,” Bak said.

“But this is just the beginning. We also want to organise indoor events in spring and autumn to ensure the constant development of these exhibitions.”

Cannes Yachting Festival Cancelled at Late Notice

Cannes Yachting Festival Cancelled at Late Notice

SHARE

This year’s edition Cannes Yachting Festival has been cancelled, with the 2021 edition scheduled for September 7-12.

The Cannes Yachting Festival, the most important annual showcase for new European boats, has been cancelled. Exhibitors were notified last Friday, 2½ weeks before the show was scheduled to
start, before being officially announced on the show website on Sunday.

The show was scheduled for September 8-13 and expected to feature about 400 yachts, but was cancelled after last week’s meetings between show organisers and representatives of the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture, following a recent escalation of Covid-19 cases in Cannes and the rest of France.

Despite extensive efforts by organisers and an emergency exemption request, the show was not granted an exception to the rule announced on August 13 banning events with more than 5,000 people per day.

Show organiser Sylvie Ernoult said: “This decision is a huge disappointment for the entire nautical industry, with exhibitors in the lead, the City of Cannes and its professionals, the show’s service
providers and the Reed team, who have worked together relentlessly for months to prepare the 2020 edition in the best-possible conditions taking into account the context.

“The implementation of the health protocol that we drew up, certified by APAVE and recognised as completely satisfactory by the prefecture’s services and the Regional Health Authority (ARS), would have made the 2020 Yachting Festival one of the safest events in terms of health in France. It is with great surprise and incomprehension that we take note of the prefect’s decision.”

The Monaco Yacht Show, scheduled to be held in late September, was cancelled in late June, but major international shows still on the calendar include the Genoa International Boat Show in Italy from
October 1-6 and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida, USA, from October 28- November 1. Tickets for the latter are available from September 7.

The Southampton International Boat Show in England, scheduled for September 11-20, was cancelled in July before being replaced by Boats 2020 presented by Southampton International Boat Show Limited. Expected to feature 80-90 boats, Boats 2020 will be held at Mayflower Park on the original dates from September 11-20, with all visitors having to register online for tickets.

Boat shows that have gone ahead in August include the dealership-supported British Motor Yacht Show, which required all visitors to pre-book appointments, and the recent Polboat Yachting Festival in Poland.
