Gulf Craft (United Arab Emirates), Nautor’s Swan (Finland), Cantiere delle Marche (Italy) and The Italian Sea Group (Italy) are the newest members of SYBAss (Superyacht Builders Association). The newcomers were confirmed at the body’s annual general meeting in Monaco and take the total membership to 24 superyacht builders.

Gulf Craft staged the premiere of its flagship Majesty 175 in Dubai in May, while Nautor’s Swan launched its ClubSwan 125 and Swan 120 this year. CdM builds superyachts across its Darwin, Flexplorer and RJ classes along with custom builds, while TISG’s Admiral and Tecnomar brands both build superyachts.

In Monaco, the SYBAss assembly was addressed by representatives of upcoming major events who shared their plans and listened to the input from senior managers at the yards. The Superyacht Life Foundation and Water Revolution Foundation also shared their latest news and upcoming projects with the members.

SYBAss provided members with an overview of current economic developments including a focus on the impact of the world economy on superyacht ownership and presented the 13th SYBAss Economic Report, titled ‘The fog has dispersed, back to chasing the sun’.

The presentation explained how the global economy is now on a V-shaped recovery path that will see it stabilise by 2023. With Covid highlighting the privacy and safety of owning a superyacht, orders have already returned to the pre-2008 benchmark, with almost 100 new commissions in 2021.

With the number of UHNWIs expected to grow by a third in 2021, the SYBAss Economic Report noted a positive momentum in the market and estimated that the number of superyachts less than 15 years old could pass the 1,450 mark by 2025.

Theo Hooning, Secretary General of SYBAss, said: “These figures and trends illustrate that the superyacht industry can look forward to a robust future. Enjoying these levels of growth also brings with it the responsibility to constantly improve our levels of professionalism and cooperation.

“SYBAss will facilitate these processes for our members while also ensuring that the interests of superyacht builders are given the priority they deserve in other key areas such as regulations and promotion.”

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, Nautor’s Swan staged the world premiere of the Swan 120, the new flagship of its Maxi line.

The Swan 120 is another German Frers design

Nautor’s Swan staged the world premiere of the Swan 120 at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, where hull one, Audrey The First, was exhibited along with a Swan 98 at the world’s premier superyacht show. The 120 was built in Swan’s superyacht facility in Pietarsaari, Finland.

Argentine Germán Frers, the Argentine who has designed for Swan since 1981, handled the naval architecture for the 36.4m, 150GT yacht, while Genovese architect Misa Poggi designed the interiors.

With a typical Frers sheerline, the hull lines sweep gently aft from the vertical bow. From around the mid-point, the hull design carries almost all the maximum beam aft, increasing stability when heeled and creating generous volume below.

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, Nautor’s Swan staged the world premiere of the Swan 120, the new flagship of its Maxi line.

The 120 heads a Maxi line also featuring the 88, 98 and 108

At deck level, a clean foredeck leads aft to the coachroof, which blends into an expansive, protected cockpit area. The design conceals an electrically controlled bimini top and sprayhood, which is hidden in a flush coachroof cassette when not in use.

At anchor, the cockpit area transforms into a lounge space with versatile deck sofas that can convert into a dining area. Following other Maxi line designs, the Swan 120 also offers ‘aisle seats’.

CLEAN AFT DECK

Aft of the deck lounge is a clean deck space, still sheltered by the coamings, which runs behind the steering pedestals with ‘aero-seating’. Between the helming stations, it’s possible to incorporate a ‘snug-island’, which provides protected access to the aft accommodation with a dodger, sprayhood and seating for those on watch.

The voluminous stern features a transom that folds down hydraulically to form a teak-decked swim platform and reveal a spacious garage that can house a 4.5m tender and other toys. Once the tender is launched, the large area becomes available for watersports, sunbathing and even dining. Furthermore, a section of the aft deck may be opened to convert into a large sunbed at deck level.

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, Nautor’s Swan staged the world premiere of the Swan 120, the new flagship of its Maxi line.

The hull and deck are full carbon-fibre

The hull and deck are a full carbon-fibre construction, using epoxy Sprint® pre-preg carbon fibre interior and exterior skins on a core of M-grade Corecell foam. The pre-preg system provides structural stiffness and rigidity, and light weight.

INTERIOR COMFORT

The lower deck is accessed from deck via a 1.8m-wide companionway door constructed of curved glass to increase natural light below. The interior is offered in two principal layouts, with the full-beam owner’s suite aft or forward, both with the possibility of a walk-in wardrobe.

Both configurations also offer three en-suite guest cabins – one double and two twins – along with three twin crew cabins, also en-suite. The galley and laundry are close to the crew quarters.

The spacious saloon features a lounge area to port and dining to starboard. A new option features a large hull window adjacent to the daybeds, a soft-furnished space ideal while under sail or before nightfall. Audrey the First features fully custom interiors by Mark Whiteley Design.

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, Nautor’s Swan staged the world premiere of the Swan 120, the new flagship of its Maxi line.

Frers refers to the “modern canoe body of the hull”

SAILING OPTIONS

The Swan 120 comes with a comprehensive specification as standard, but there is an extensive list of options including three sail-plan configurations and a telescopic keel that reduces draught from 5.5m to 3.5m. The anchor is launched and retrieved by a hydraulic retracting and folding arm.

For those wishing to compete, there’s a comprehensive racing package that includes a square-top mainsail with running backstays; a double-length bowsprit with bobstay for fast reaching with powerful masthead gennakers and even the option to integrate a concealed anchor system.

Abundant deck stowage includes a spacious forward sail locker and two aft lazarettes, and there’s generous tankage for water and fuel, all easily inspected. Below the raised saloon is a full-beam engine room providing good access to the 450hp main engine, the two generators and other

electrical and hydraulic systems.

Azimut plans to launch the 26 Metri and 36 Metri superyachts to its flagship Grande Collection in 2022 as the Italian builder continues its roll-out of models in its five-year plan from 2019-23, which it describes as “the most ambitious programme of launches” in its history.

The Grande 26 Metri is proposed as a compact superyacht, capable of offering separate flows between crew and guests, with five cabins including the owner’s suite on the main deck.

The Grande 36 Metri offers the possibility to choose between different layouts with distinct functionality for each space.

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show (September 22-25), Azimut is displaying the Grande 35 Metri and 38m Grande Trideck, currently its two biggest models, with the latter launched earlier this year and debuting at this month’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 7-12).

Azimut’s upcoming models include the Verve 42, which will have a world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 27-31). The outboard model follows the success of the Verve 47 in the US market.

In the spring of 2022, Azimut will present the Magellano 30 Metri, which renews the shipyard’s collaboration with Vincenzo De Cotiis and Ken Freivokh on the Magellano 25 Metri that debuted last year and arrived in Asia earlier this year.

The Magellano 30 Metri is equipped with a dual mode hull and is the latest addition to the trawler-style Magellano Collection, which combines slow navigation with large volumes.

Azimut’s launches in 2022 will also include the new S7, which will join the S6, S8 and Grande S10 in its sports range. In 2023, the yard plans to introduce Sea Deck, which borrows from the experience gained by the Azimut-Benetti Group with Oasis Deck™. Sea Deck brings the opening beach area to smaller boats, starting from 50ft.

Marine Italia leads Azimut in Asia

Marine Italia represents Azimut in several regions, but consistent sales of large models in Hong Kong make the company one of the Italian builder’s most important dealers globally.

Earlier this month, Azimut awarded Marine Italia with the Best Sales Performance for APAC, Middle East and Africa during its dealer meeting at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Representing Azimut in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong province, Taiwan and Singapore, Marine Italia was Azimut’s second-best dealer globally, behind only US-based MarineMax, the world’s largest yacht dealership.

The Custom Line 140’ has an overall length of 42.15m (138ft 3in) and a large beam of 8.57m (28ft 1in) in comparison to the Navetta 42’s dimensions of 41.8m (137ft 2in) and 8.1m (26ft 7in).

The upcoming flagship is estimated to have a volume of just under 400GT, which is double that of the 199GT Navetta 30, which was launched last year and is the range’s current entry-level model, with the first hull resident at the Lantau Yacht Club in Hong Kong.

Created in partnership with Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and its Engineering Department, the 140’ is the third Custom Line yacht with exterior and interior styling by Francesco Paszkowski Design and interiors in collaboration with Margherita Casprini and Custom Line Atelier.

Ferretti Group predicts the high-speed displacement will enable the yacht to reach a top speed of 21.5 knots, based on preliminary data.

The hull windows are generously sized, while the floor-to-ceiling glazing on deck offers excellent views, aided by the open stern rails. A notable detail is the painted aluminium handrail with Y-shaped uprights, an elegant and functional design feature by Paszkowski.

Aft, the beach area is clear of technical features and can be furnished as desired by the owner, with tender launch and recovery operations taking place on the port side.

Inside, guest and service areas are separated, with a stairway on the port side connecting the internal service areas from the main deck to the sun deck via the upper deck.

The main deck features a 320sqft saloon and the widebody owner’s cabin, which offers over 320sqft of space and includes a double walk-in wardrobe and full-beam bathroom with twin sinks and both bath and shower. A panoramic drop-down terrace is an option.

The lower deck has three VIP cabins and a twin guest cabins, while the crew area forward accommodates seven in three en-suite cabins. The captain’s cabin is on the upper deck.

The upper deck also includes exterior spaces, a skylounge with forward-to-aft glazing and the 190sqft bridge, which has an integrated Team Italia dashboard and a chart area reminiscent of those on passenger and cargo ships.

Among the yacht’s innovations, the upper deck is connected directly to the forward area by side corridors with access also from the bridge, resulting in a single, spacious deck.

The sun deck contains a relaxation area with a hydro-massage tub and freestanding furniture, plus the option of a bimini extending shade provided by the hardtop. The bow area offers an outdoor lounge and another garage forward can be used to stow a tender or jetski, as offered on other Custom Line yachts.

The 140’ will be fitted with a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines rated 2,638mhp, while noise levels on board will be reduced based on mathematical analysis of each noise source and its position.

The solutions used include floating systems, special materials and additional insulation between bulkheads and in ceilings, while sealed passageways will separate the guest area from the crew quarters and technical areas. Other acoustic-focused features include silenced engine exhaust systems and machinery supports designed specifically to absorb vibrations.

Like all latest-generation Custom Line yachts, the 140’ will be certified according to IMO Tier III standards to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust fumes. The yacht also meets the requirements of international MCA certification for chartering purposes.

Belassi created Burrasca as a “super sports car for the water”

The Burrasca was honoured as a Red Dot Winner in the Watercraft category of this year’s Red Dot Award competition for product design. One of the world’s leading design international competitions, the Red Dot Award was first held in 1955 and today recognises leaders in product design, communication design and design concepts.

Christian Hintersteininger, Managing Director of Belassi, said: “La Burrasca is Italian for ‘storm’ or ‘strong wind’ and describes our super sports car for the water with its 320hp, three-cylinder turbo engine. The internationally coveted award celebrates the Burrasca’s outstanding design and ground-breaking technologies. It is great recognition for the performance of our company and our entire team.”

The Burrasca is a Red Dot Winner 2021

Belassi spent four years developing the Burrasca, which is made up of over 2,000 parts and hand-crafted in Austria. German studio Genesis Design is largely responsible for the design of the Burrasca, which combines elegant lines, sporty proportions inspired by supercars and exceptional driving performance.

The hull is one of the design’s major achievements, with sophisticated hydrodynamics allowing extreme cornering speeds and remarkable acceleration, boosted by a 320hp engine specially developed by Belassi.

“Marine hypercraft is the perfect term for our extremely high standards of quality and performance, and underlines our manufacturing approach,” Hintersteininger added. “Through the synergy of innovative technology and exceptional design, combined with authentic manufacturing expertise, we have created a new and unrivalled premium segment.”

The cockpit and chassis of the Burrasca feature carbon to increase strength and lower weight, while owners can customise colour and paintwork.

Waldemar Pöchhacker, Belassi’s Head of Marketing and Sales, said: “Our credo is to exceed the requirements of all our customers. That’s why every Burrasca is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, made in Austria and thought out down to the smallest detail.”

The sentiments were echoed by the Red Dot jury, which stated that the Burrasca “skilfully combines craftsmanship and technology, while its dynamic appearance reveals a deep love of detail”.
