Beneteau’s new models for 2022 include the Antares 7 enclosed motorboat, which is available in Cruising and Fishing versions.

The second-smallest model in the Antares range, the Antares 7 has an overall length of 7.48m (24ft 6in), a hull of 6.48m (21ft 3in) and a beam of 2.53m (8ft 4in), so is trailerable by road.

With a 200hp engine, the Sarrazin-designed Antares 7 can reach 33 knots, but its hull has been optimised for cruising at 21 knots, while a bow thruster is an option.

Following some of the design advancements shown on the Antares 8, the Antares 7 features include a side boarding door, large starboard walkway, integrated rack in the hard top, versatile berths, storage and an optional separate head.

The aft cockpit features three-sided seating including a fold-down port bench in the freeboard and an aft bench that can contain a cooler, with the seating area able to be converted into a sunbathing area. The foredeck includes a sunpad and an anchor locker.

The interior includes a dinette with a table that can be lowered to create a berth, while to starboard is a galley with hob, sink and fridge.

Forward is the helm seat, which can rotate to face the dinette, while the backrest on the forward bench seat to port can be reversed to transform it into companion seating while under way.

The forward cabin has a standard double berth and a storage space to starboard, fitted with a chemical toilet. The optional Weekender lower-deck layout has a separate head that includes a sink.

The Fishing version replaces the aft bench with a fishing station including rod holders, drink holders, cutting board and storage for bait and tackle, while a live bait well is on the port side.

The wheelhouse roof can be equipped with five additional rod holders, as well as a spotlight and an additional nine-inch display connected to the depth sounder.

Santa Claus costumes were out in full force on Hong Kong’s waters at the first Jeanneau Christmas Cup, organised by the Cruiser Owners Association (COA) and supported by Jeanneau dealer China Pacific Marine.

A total of 14 yachts competed in the one-day event, which was split into two legs. Leg One consisted of separate routes from Sai Kung, Victoria Harbour and Aberdeen to Shek O Rock, where all yachts assembled for Leg Two.

Headed by founder Edwin Ho, Starship has expanded its portfolio following its appointment to represent Wider’s new power catamarans in two major Asian markets.

Starship Yachts has been appointed as exclusive dealer for WiderCat power catamarans in Hong Kong and Singapore. Founded in Hong Kong in 1994 by Edwin Ho, Starship Yachts is a long-time dealer in Hong Kong and Macau for multiple Italian motor yacht builders as well as French RIB brand Zodiac, with the addition of Wider expanding its portfolio and extending its presence into Singapore.

The WiderCat 92 is a popular new model being built by Italy’s Wider, which recently appointed MarineMax to represent the 92ft powercat in the US, home to two of the first five orders, set for delivery in 2023 and 2024. Wider is producing the WiderCat 92 at its expanding facility in Fano, while building the 72m megayacht Moonflower at its new superyacht hub in Venice.

The drop-down sides offer access to two VIP suites

Among exciting new catamaran designs highlighted in YACHT STYLE Issue 65 (the 2022 ‘Multihull Issue’), the WiderCat 92 is designed with Luca Dini and features large interior volumes due to a 39ft-plus beam. The beam extends when the side platforms drop, offering direct access to both VIP cabins and linking with the fold-down garage door to form a 720sqft, three-sided beach club.

The WiderCat 92 features 1,830sqft of solar panels, so is energy self-sufficient when anchored at sea, with unused energy stored in the lithium batteries to power systems at night. Wider’s serial hybrid system enables a cruising speed of 12 knots and a range over 1,600nm at eight knots or up to 2,400nm at six knots. In zero-emission mode, the yacht can travel 27nm at six knots in silence.

“This a new chapter for Starship Yachts,” said Edwin Ho, founder and President of Starship, who has been joined in the team by his son Jamie. “We are embarking on a new vision of yachting hand in hand with Wider’s sun-powered, boundary-breaking, 28m power catamaran, inspired by the sun and made for planet earth.”

Wider is a leading proponent of hybrid propulsion systems and solar technology, building upon the shipyard’s extensive implementation on its superyachts since the company was founded in 2010.

Azimut-Benetti Group has topped the Global Order Book for 24m-plus superyachts for the 23rd straight year. The Italian company is the leader among 189 shipyards, both in number of projects under construction (168, up from 128) and total length (5,991m) of its projects.

Founded by Paolo Vitelli and led by his daughter Giovanna, Azimut-Benetti’s Vice President, the family-owned company recorded a production value of more than €1.2 billion for the year and extended its order book into 2027.

Over the next three years, Azimut-Benetti plans to invest €130 million in R&D in the development of new products, cutting-edge technologies and sustainability, with a growing focus on reducing fuel consumption and emissions by combining innovative propulsion systems including hybrid and electric, increasingly efficient hulls and extensive use of carbon-fibre to reduce weight.

Taiwan’s Ocean Alexander remains third after increasing its superyachts projects from 47 to 73 with a total length of 2,382m, while fellow Kaohsiung builder Horizon is in 11th place.

Dutch megayacht builder Feadship is in fourth place, ahead of British builders Princess and Sunseeker. Germany’s Lurssen is seventh, ahead of The Italian Sea Group, whose brands include Admiral, Tecnomar and Perini Navi. The Italian builder has announced impressive sales figures for the Grande 26M that debuted at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

Azimut has announced 22 sales of the Grande 26M, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. The 26.1m model is the new ‘entry model’ for the Italian builder’s Grande series of superyachts, which also includes the 27M, 32M, new 36M and flagship Trideck (38m).

Like the 36M, the new Grande features exterior styling by Alberto Mancini and interiors by Achille Salvagni, who both worked on the shipyard’s 38m flagship Grande Trideck that debuted in 2021. The 26M and 36M are both Low Emission Yachts, based on producing at least 20 per cent less emissions than Azimut’s competitors, including shaft line models with hard-chine hulls.

The Grande 26M is distinguished by a Deck2Deck™ Terrace in the aft cockpit of the main deck and the first Large POD propulsion system, which contributes to the reduced emissions. The yacht features a light carbon-fibre superstructure, a full-beam owner’s suite on the main deck, a further four guest cabins, plus separate guest and crew flows.

Azimut also says the flybridge, offering 50sqm of space on the same level, has “never been seen before on a yacht this size”.

The 50sqm flybridge

Mancini said: “The project was driven by the enthusiasm to create a compact superyacht, with five cabins, an enormous flybridge and a larger cockpit than usual for the category, which we wanted to extend to give the yacht a fully-fledged dining area overlooking the water.”

The Deck2Deck™ Terrace uses a transom extension system, with the teak-clad garage door rising to main-deck height to expand the size of the cockpit to over 18sqm. The walkaround table, when extended, seats up to eight guests in an al fresco dining room with a view over the water.

The interiors include a partially raised wheelhouse and a smaller engine room due to the innovative Large POD propulsion system, offering Salvagni room to express his vision of organic architecture.

The shapes and hues are soft and warm, the floor is in oak and there are full-height windows on the main deck and in the owner’s suite. Pops of colour and artistic creativity include the cobalt blue of the sofa, the suspended lamp over the dining table, the orange coffee table and chromatic details inside the cabins.

The owner’s suite features full-height glazing on both sides, while an open dressing area connects to the bathroom.

Azimut, the first brand to work POD propulsion systems, developed the new Large POD 4600 propulsion system for the Grande 26M in partnership with ZF. The system combines with a 30 per cent lighter superstructure achieved through extensive use of carbon-fibre to help deliver the 20 per cent reduction in fuel consumption at the most frequent speeds compared to the market average.

The PODs pivot, so eliminating the need for a rudder and the associated drag to achieve excellent manoeuvrability and high speeds, with the Grande 26M effortlessly reaching 28 knots. Compared with the POD systems already available on the market, the new ZF POD 4600 system was developed to increase efficiency on larger boats for the first time.

An additional benefit of the system is higher torque at low speeds for easier manoeuvring. The system is also ‘HybridReady’.

Princess X80

Princess started the year by unveiling its new X80 and V50 at the nine-day Princess Exclusive event in its home city of Plymouth. The X80 is the little sister of the Plymouth builder’s flagship X95 and features the range’s extra-long flybridge and enclosed skylounge.

The V50 cruiser had its major boat show premiere at Palm Beach before the model’s Open version – with a completely different saloon and cockpit layout – had its debut at Cannes in September. The V50 has a new deep-V hull and an extended canopy over the cockpit, as well as newly refined interior fixtures and fittings, as seen on the V55.

Meanwhile, the all-new F65, the new flagship of the F Class of flybridge yachts, made its global debut at the Southampton International Boat Show along with the world premieres of the upgraded F50 and F55 models. Both the X80 and F65 will be among Princess’s display at Boot Dusseldorf in January 2023.

Fairline Phantom 65

Fairline has introduced two new models this year, staging the world premieres of the Phantom 65 and the newly upgraded flagship Squadron 68 at Cannes.

The Phantom 65 – which also appeared at the Genoa International Boat Show – is the Oundle builder’s first sportbridge yacht and is based on the Targa 65, featuring sleek lines, large hull windows and a glazed sunroof forward of the sportbridge. Twin Cat C18-1150 engines and optional V12 C32-1622s deliver 31 and 35 knots respectively.

Fairline Squadron 68

The upgraded Squadron 68, which also showed at Southampton and is already in Asia through Simpson Marine, features a subtly revised exterior, fresh interior layout and design, and a sleek new hardtop with fabric sliding sunroof and integrated electric sunshade aft.

The main deck has a new galley design that increases workspace and fridge/freezer capacity, and incorporates a sociable bar that extends into the cockpit. Options include a tri-fold patio door and lower-helm side door.

The parade route will start at RSYC’s marina, proceed to the West Coast Park waterfront and turn back into RSYC’s marina. The recommended viewing points will be at the promenade lookout jetty at West Coast Park. “Viewing of the parade from the promenade lookout jetty is free of charge, making this a great family event to embrace the spirit of the holiday season,” RSYC stated.

The participating boats will be judged by a panel of judges between 8.45 pm and 9.15 pm, and the boats stand a chance to win attractive cash prizes. The event will culminate with an awards ceremony at the foreshore to recognise all participants’ efforts and celebrate winning yachts.

All entry ticket funds will go directly to the Children’s Wishing Well, a registered charity providing support to children and focused on the holistic education of the children and youth from disadvantage background. About 20 beneficiaries from the Children’s Wishing Well will join the event and watch the boat parade at the marina.
