Beneteau First 44

Beneteau hosted the world premieres of the First 44e and Oceanis 30.1e at December’s Nautic Boat Show in Paris, with the sailing yachts showcasing sustainability in terms of the construction materials and propulsion systems.

Gianguido Girotti, Managing Director of Groupe Beneteau’s Boat Division, said: “We cannot force our customers, but we can win them over, which is why we need pioneering projects to develop new technologies and prepare the future leap forward. The transition is underway. The whole of the industry will need to change.”

The First 44e is the first production boat to be built from recyclable Elium resin, as part of Beneteau’s exclusive partnership with Arkema. Instead of teak, an exotic wood predominantly produced in Myanmar, the decking is made of Iroko from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified forests in Congo.

The yacht has a Torqeedo series hybrid propulsion system, where two pods are powered by a 20kW battery bank that can be recharged at harbour or at sea with a diesel generator.

Beneteau Oceanis 30.1

The Oceanis 30.1e uses an all-electric Torqeedo pod engine, with a 5kW battery that can be recharged at harbour or by solar panels. The Oceanis 30.1e is designed to be used initially for inland sailing, although Beneteau is considering rolling out the materials and technology used on the two boats on an industrial scale for production models.

Yann Masselot, Managing Director of Beneteau, said: “Reducing the environmental footprint of the nautical industry is a succession of challenges and small steps. Each innovation involves inventing valid technical solutions, creating partnerships and making investments, and, of course, receiving the support of customers.

“A demand for a new style of sailing is emerging. It is our responsibility to pave the way and not to impose changes in the way we sail, but to make them possible.”

Custom Line enjoyed a very productive year

Custom Line recently launched the Navetta 37 Regina, which marked the 20th and final launch for the Ferretti Group builder in 2022. Bought by an American owner, the 14th unit of the popular Navetta 37 model was Custom Line’s sixth launch – all different models – at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona in just under two months, as the builder concluded the year with a wave of activity.

In late October, Custom line launched the 10th unit of the Navetta 30, which features an exterior by Filippo Salvetti and interior by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, and is the smallest of the brand’s displacement models. A Navetta 30 was also the builder’s first launch of 2022 (click for article) and is a popular model in Asia, with four units sold in Hong Kong and one in Singapore.

November 10 featured the launch of the eighth Custom Line 120’, the middle offering in the brand’s planing line, featuring exterior styling by Francesco Paszkowski Design and interiors by Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini and the Custom Line Atelier.

The seventh Navetta 30, Wolfpack, was Custom Line’s first launch of 2022

Six days later, Custom Line launched Our Way, the 25th unit of the Navetta 33, with its American owner in attendance. Two weeks later, on November 30, the builder launched M Together, the ninth unit of the Navetta 42, bought by a European owner. The Navetta 42 is currently the brand’s largest displacement model, with the company now developing the Navetta 50.

On December 13, the 15th Custom Line 106’ planing yacht, My Mistake, was launched, bought by a European owner, before the year’s launches concluded a week later with the Navetta 37 Regina.

“The success of Custom Line is unparalleled. The brand’s superyachts confirm their appeal for owners due to a mixture of unique and distinctive factors, the standouts being innovative onboard technology, excellent performance and sophisticated design,” the builder stated.

“The high level of customisation is the result of strategic contributions by the Custom Line Atelier, which supports the owner in every stage of the process and every decision, with the aim of creating the superyacht of their dreams.”

The French builder has released its second-smallest model, which follows the release of its acclaimed flagship.

Dufour has released its new 37, which is the second-smallest model in the current portfolio and follows the French builder’s larger new models like the 470, 530 and flagship 61 (click for Review).

The Dufour 37 has an overall length of 35ft 4in (10.77m) and a hull with a length of 32ft 9in (9.99m) and a beam of 12ft 6in (3.8m).

Dufour, sailing, yacht, 37, 61, 470, 530, Cannes Yachting Festival, Genoa International Boat Show, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, United States Sailboat Show, Annapolis

The modern, stable hull follows the form of offshore racing boats, but with a slightly rounded lower hull that “favours her passage through the water, while reducing the sound inside the yacht”.

The new hull form allows for a greater power/weight ratio for this boat, while Dufour says the feel at the helm is improved. In comparison with other models of her size, the mast has been lengthened to give an increased sail area and make the yacht even more powerful.

Dufour, sailing, yacht, 37, 61, 470, 530, Cannes Yachting Festival, Genoa International Boat Show, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, United States Sailboat Show, Annapolis

Like her predecessor the Dufour 360,the Dufour 37 has a single rudder and twin steering wheels with lift-up bench seats and a connecting bench in-between.The model is also available in three different sailing plans.

The Easy version features two winches and a self-tacking jib, while the Ocean version is more traditional, with the sheets positioned on the coamings and the halyard and mainsail traveller manoeuvres close to the helm station, plus more sail area.

Dufour, sailing, yacht, 37, 61, 470, 530, Cannes Yachting Festival, Genoa International Boat Show, Grand Pavois La Rochelle, United States Sailboat Show, Annapolis

The Performance version has six winches, a clew at the bottom of the cockpit and high-performance equipment, designed for pure racing.

The Dufour 37 also has many features seen on other recent Dufour designs such as the plancha grill on the aft deck, as well as fully inflatable cockpit upholstery such as the sunpad on the foredeck.

The hull and deck windows have been enlarged to make the saloon a very bright space. The galley is to port of the stairs, while the saloon features sofas on both sides and a fold-out table along the centreline.

There are two interior layouts available including a two-cabin version has a very large bathroom and a large exterior storage locker, while six berths are possible due to the transformable table in the saloon.

Following the launch of the Wallywhy200 and announcement of the upcoming Wallywhy150, the Ferretti Group builder has revealed the third model in the ‘Wally Hybrid Yacht’ series.

The Wallywhy100 can top 27 knots

Wally has revealed details of the new model wallywhy100, which follows the 200GT Wallywhy200 that debuted in 2021 and the 150GT Wallywhy150, set to launch in early 2023.

The Wally-Ferretti Group Engineering team handled the exterior and naval architecture of the three-cabin Wallywhy100, with Studio A. Vallicelli & C. responsible for interior design of the new ‘Wally Hybrid Yacht’ (why). As a crossover product, the 100GT yacht combines the qualities of a 60-70ft coupé boat with the volume of the Wallywhy design, offering a voluminous cruiser in the sub-70ft range.

Wally, Wallywhy, Wallywhy200, Wallywhy150, Wallywhy100, 2021, 2023, launch, Stefano De Vivo, Luca Bassani

Wallywhy100 has a volume of 100GT

A twin D13 Volvo IPS configuration offers a cruising speed of 24 knots and a top speed of over 27 knots with the upgraded IPS1350 engines. A tall, slightly reversed bow ensures a dry and safe ride, while a joystick system and Volvo Penta technology offer an easy navigating experience, making her ideal for owner-operators.

Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s Managing Director, said: “The Wallywhy100 was born from a gap in the market. While beautiful and sleek, traditional coupés do not offer the comfort and liveability that today’s owners expect from their boats, while larger and more voluminous boats generally don’t offer speed or usage flexibility. This leaves owners with a tough choice: do they want to compromise on comfort or performance?

Wally, Wallywhy, Wallywhy200, Wallywhy150, Wallywhy100, 2021, 2023, launch, Stefano De Vivo, Luca Bassani

The beach area has fold-out sides

“Through the Wallywhy line, we’ve solved this problem by harnessing all the product and market knowledge we’ve accumulated over the years. Like the Wallywhy200 and Wallywhy150, the Wallywhy100 will be a game changer in many different markets due to its compelling value proposition and infinite usage cases for a wide demographic. In 20 years, the industry will look at the Wallywhy100 as a yacht that dared to be different.”

The covered main deck area can either be enjoyed closed or fully open to enable relaxed al-fresco dining, while the 14sqm beach area is home to a large hydraulic platform for launching and retrieving tenders and toys up to 3.6m.  A hydraulic passarelle/swim ladder ensures easy access both to and from the dock as well as from the water. The beach area is completed by folding wings that increase the space by almost 50 per cent.

The foredeck features a multi-use lounge that can be transformed into an aperitivo area with an elevated table in the middle or into a sunlounge by lowering the table to seating height

On the lower deck, the full-beam master cabin is located aft. The cabin’s en-suite bathroom is made from electrically regulated glass, so it can be fully transparent to enlarge the room or opaque when in use – a first for a sub-70ft yacht. The master also has wide array of closet and storage, and good views through large side windows. The VIP stateroom to port and the twin on starboard also have en-suites and large windows.

Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and Chief Designer, said: “The yacht’s appearance is 100 per cent derived from its function. The closed cockpit is pushed far forward to provide space for inside/outside living, which gives the Wallywhy100 an eye-catching, sleek but still aggressive look. This is further emphasised by a large, inviting beach area close to the water

The master suite on the lower deck

“Thanks to its innovative design, the wallywhy100 is a ‘jack of all trades’. It’s a spectacular day or weekend boat for those who want to use it as a support vessel for their larger yacht. At the same time, its ample cabins, generous crew quarters, relaxation areas, and garage and toy storage capacity make it the perfect vacation home away from land. The wallywhy100 is a boat for owners who understand their own needs and aren’t afraid to break the mould.”

Breaking News: Singapore Yacht Show sets sail again!

SHARE

Asia’s biggest and longest-running boat show returns to Singapore from April 27-30, 2023.

Singapore Yacht Show, Verventia

When the long-awaited 10th edition of the Singapore Yacht Show (SYS) was forced to shut down just a few weeks before opening back in March 2020, nobody thought it would have to be postponed more than a few months. Finally, a full three years after the beginning of that awful period, the show can finally go on.

Much has changed on the boating industry landscape in all that time, but it has been a highly positive change. SYS organisers had worked flat out over the whole year following SYS 2019 to promote the 10th edition, and somehow, coupled with the lifestyle changes that were enforced on everyone, all the yacht brands, retailers and brokers alike have had three of their best business years in history – without the region’s main yacht show even taking place.

Going forward, to ensure that the Singapore Yacht Show and its sister events in Thailand and Hong Kong will be sustainable and secure for the future, Verventia’s Andy Treadwell says he is joining forces with all the experienced, respected and professional boat show organisers and marketers in the region.

Singapore Yacht Show, Verventia

“It will be a team in which the global industry can have total faith as genuine partners with all the necessary local knowledge, and we will be operating one combined event platform called Asia Yacht Shows,” said Treadwell.

“With the huge amount of interest from many new players as well as from all the long-standing exhibitors, sponsors and supporters of SYS since its inception 10 years ago, the show needs to grow.

“And with our push to get foreign superyachts coming to Asia to cruise and charter, which they can now do legally in Thailand, we are already seeing a big influx of large yachts here, and interest from Asian buyers and charterers is growing fast. The show needs to grow with it. The choice of the best venues for all three shows is still under discussion and will be announced shortly.”

YACHT STYLE will post any updates on the boat shows as additional information is confirmed.

Galeon 800 Fly

Galeon has celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2022 with several new models including its long-awaited flagship 800 Fly, which had its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October. The yacht’s standout features include an enormous flybridge that widens aft and extends beyond the cockpit below, while the main deck has an aft bar, spacious saloon, forward galley and dining area.

In September, Galeon staged the world premieres of the 375 GTO and 440 Fly at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The 375 GTO builds on the 325 GTO that launched in early 2021 and spearheaded the new Grand Touring Outboard series, while the 440 Fly is the latest model to utilise the shipyard’s iconic drop-down wings made popular on its 500 Fly and rolled out on other models including the 640 Fly and 400 Fly.

Leopard 46 Powercat

Leopard’s new model for 2022 is the 46 Powercat (click for Review), which debuted at the Miami International Boat Show and was among the brand’s full fleet of power and sailing models at Cannes. Following the 53 launched in 2020, the 46 is the second of a new three-model powercat line-up and its features include the brand’s signature large flybridge and a door to the foredeck.

Prestige X60

Prestige’s first world premiere of the year was the X60 (click for Review), which debuted at Miami and showed at Cannes. Like the flagship X70, the X60 also has a swim platform with drop-down sofa, a clear balustrade and long covered cockpit, although unlike its widebody big sister, it does have one side deck, to port. Other new features include a sliding door on the port side of the saloon.

Prestige M48

Prestige’s M48 (click for News) was among the most anticipated premieres at Cannes, as one of the first powercats by a leading monohull builder, albeit one with Lagoon as a sister company. Designed by long-time Prestige designer Garroni Design of Italy with French naval architect Philippe Briand, the 14.8m yacht is tall and thin, with just a 6m beam, while options include a full-beam master suite forward.

Jeanneau’s DB/43 (click for News) was another exciting premiere at Cannes as the brand entered the premium dayboat market with its flagship motorboat, reuniting Garroni and American naval architect Michael Peters. Dropdown sides expand the width to 18ft 6in, the flexible aft sofa can fold down to become a sunpad, while the two cabins below include an aft master with a double and a sofa or single bed to starboard.

Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1295 Fly

Jeanneau’s Cannes premieres included the Cap Camarat 10.5 CC and Merry Fisher 1295 Fly (click for News) , which is 7ft longer than the series’ former flagship, the Merry Fisher 1095. The 1295 Fly features three 300hp Yamaha outboard engines, while eye-catching features include a drop-down platform to starboard and three integrated sun loungers on the foredeck.

Beneteau Swift Trawler 48

Beneteau debuted its Swift Trawler 48 (click for News) at Miami before the model was part of the builder’s Cannes line-up. The model by Andreani Design succeeds the 47 as the flagship of the Swift Trawler range of seaworthy passage makers. A MICAD-designed hull helps provide a 600nm-plus range at nine knots with twin Cummins engines, with the 425hp options giving a top speed of 25 knots.

Poland: Europe’s quiet achiever, major innovator

Poland remains Europe’s leading producer of outboard motorboats, many for international brands, yet the country is also a hotbed of innovation and ambition. This year alone, Sunreef has launched two sailing catamarans from its pioneering Eco series, Galeon has released three models ranging from a 50-knot outboard to an 83ft flagship, while Conrad launched its biggest luxury superyacht to date.

Galeon has been celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022

Marking four decades since it was founded in 1982 during Poland’s communist era, Galeon has been celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022 with a bang.

One of the world’s leading mid-range luxury yacht builders, Galeon has about 1,600 staff working in Gdansk on 30-49ft models in its inland site in Straszyn and yachts 50ft upwards at its bigger site along the Martwa Wisla river, where it has its own marina.

Galeon’s flagship 800 Fly

This year’s new models from its two facilities in and around the north-coast city have included the 375 GTO, 440 Fly and long-awaited flagship 800 Fly, which was a world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October.

The 375 GTO and 440 Fly had their global debuts at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, although seven weeks earlier the former was unveiled for its Polish premiere at the third Polboat Yachting Festival in Gdynia, a nearby sister city to Gdansk. (The fourth Polboat Yachting Festival will be held from July 27-30, 2023).

Galeon’s 375 GTO

Galeon was again the leading exhibitor at the Polboat Yachting Festival, which was held at Marina Yacht Park and organised for the third year by Polboat (Polish Chamber of Marine Industry and Water Sports).

The builder displayed the 375 GTO alongside the 325 GTO, the first model of the brand’s Grand Touring Outboard series, and also showed a 400 Fly, 460 Fly and 680 Fly, a 425 HTS sport cruiser and a 510 Skydeck.

However, the 375 GTO was the star attraction, as the first example of the new GTO series growing in length. There was also extra interest because the unit on show was built for speed … serious speed.

Engine options on the 38-footer include triple 300hp or 400hp Mercury outboards, but if you really want to muscle up, you can upgrade further to twin 600hp Mercury V12 Verado outboards. This was the case on the second hull, chosen for the model’s Polish premiere.

Pawel Gorski, Galeon’s Business Development Manager, said the effect of these twin beasts was astonishing. “We almost touched 50 knots. We were basically at 49.5 knots,” he said. “It’s sharp, very stable but very fast, so you have to hold on when you’re turning at speed. It’s a really nice ride.”

BOATBUILDING FORCE
Sunreef Yachts, which employs 2,000 staff across its two shipyards in Gdansk, displayed a 60 Power catamaran at the Gdynia show, but otherwise the models were typically smaller, more in keeping with the Central European country’s status as a world leader in the production of small outboard motorboats.

The 2022 Polboat Yachting Festival featured about 100 boats

Boasting a population of 38 million, Poland has 112 yacht builders employing 48,800 staff plus 121 boat accessory and marine equipment manufacturers with a further 6,780 employees, according to figures from Polboat.

Last year, the country’s production of 24,000 boats included 22,000 outboard motorboats up to 39ft, with small sailing boats making up two-thirds of the remaining 2,000, according to Polboat figures. Most are for foreign brands and 90-95 per cent are exported, whether it’s north to Norway, west to Germany, Netherlands and France, or across the Atlantic to the USA.

The Polboat Yachting Festival is held at Marina Yacht Park in Gdynia

Since its modern economy emerged post-communism, Poland has become home to production facilities for many leading international brands including several from yachting’s two biggest conglomerates – France’s Groupe Beneteau and USA’s Brunswick Group. In 1992, Jeanneau became one of the first foreign companies to build boats in the country.

Most yachts are built in four northern regions: Western Pomerania (Szczecin), Pomerania (Gdansk, Gdynia), Warmia-Masuria (Ostroda, Olecko, Gizycko) and Podlasie (Augustow) to the east.

Polish brands and Polish-built models dominate the Polboat Yachting Festival

An hour’s drive southeast of Gdansk, Groupe Beneteau has a huge facility in Ostroda that builds Beneteau and Jeanneau boats. In 2018, Groupe Beneteau added a second facility in Poland – and another brand – when it bought Delphia Yachts, one of the country’s biggest yacht builders and now focused on motor boats at its Olecko facility.

Brunswick brands like Sea Ray, Bayliner and Quicksilver are also built in Poland, while other foreign companies with boats built in the country include Germany’s Hanse, Denmark’s X-Yachts, Norway’s Windy and Askeladden, and Finland’s Axopar and Saxdor.

THIRD POLBOAT FESTIVAL
International brands at this year’s Polboat Yachting Festival included the likes of Nimbus, Bayliner, Saxdor and Windy, but the show is a far bigger occasion for local builders such as Parker, Northman, Balt, Cobrey and emerging companies including D-Boat, Vulcan, Nautic and VTS.

Poland, Polboat, Yachting Festival, motor, boat, yacht, sailing, Galeon, Sunreef, Galen, Parker, Francis Lapp, Cobrey, Mikolaj Krol

Polboat Yachting Festival featured fellow local builders like Balt, Northman and Parker

Parker showed four models, Cobrey showed three including its 50 Fly, Vulcan presented its JP 47, Balt debuted its flagship 37 Grand, while the Northman 1200 was among other boats in the water.

In the mid-1980s, Parker entered the leisure boat business in Poland as the distributor for Mercury Marine then started building boats in the 1990s, initially focused on RIBs. Today, the company has about 1,000 staff split between building Parker boats up to 38ft and for foreign brands including Nimbus and Windy at its Model Art boatyard.

Cobrey, founded in 2004, showed three motor yachts including its 50 Fly and 42 Fly

Meanwhile, D-Boat co-founder Szymon Zielinski was proud to announce 16 sales to date – including four to the US – of the 37-knot Diamond 550, an impressive return since exhibiting the first hull at the show’s predecessor in Gdynia in 2019.

Back then, Zielinski was a first-time boatbuilder and part-time DJ, but is now fully focused on D-Boat, proudly making the step from start-up to production builder.

The four-day show featured regular water toy demos and trials

This year’s exhibition also offered lively watersports demos and a variety of toys including SeaDoo and Kawasaki water scooters, RIBs from Sportis, Airslide hovercraft, as well as Awake jetboards and Hobie kayaks presented by Passionautica. Mercedes-Benz BMG Goworowski was among the event’s luxury partners, while Marina Yacht Park owned by PHN Group was a strategic partner.

“Poland is one of the world’s best-performing exporters of boats and yachts, so it became obvious that we should have an exhibition like the Polboat Yachting Festival,” said Michal Bak, General Secretary of Polboat, whose representatives attended this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show, before hosting a booth at Metstrade in Amsterdam in November.

“The third edition was a huge success. We see a lot of improvement compared to last year and have been receiving great feedback from exhibitors and visitors. This year, we brought in more luxury brands and international exhibitors, and truly believe the 2023 show will provide an even greater experience for visitors.”

LUXURY CATS FROM SUNREEF
A Sunreef catamaran hosted the opening ceremony for the second year, with the 60 Power playing the role a year after Double Happiness, the Sunreef 80 sailing cat that was the star of the 2021 show.

Like Galeon, Sunreef has been hosting a notable anniversary this year, having been founded in the Gdansk Shipyard in 2002 by Francis Lapp (click for 20th anniversary feature). The French entrepreneur, who has also held Polish citizenship since 2014, has overseen the company’s growth to become the world’s premier builder of large luxury catamarans, highlighted by the launch of the 100 Sunreef Power in late 2021.

As the company celebrates its 20th anniversary, Lapp reflected on why he chose to build in Poland, where he had already been working for a decade before building his first luxury sailing cat, the Sunreef 74 Che launched in 2003.

A 60 Sunreef Power hosts the opening ceremony led by Polboat President Sebastian Nietupski

“Poland has a lot of experience in boat building,” Lapp said. “When I started Sunreef Yachts, I was already established in Poland with my business. I knew the country’s potential and had no doubt that it was the right place to start building yachts.”

Sunreef currently employs about 2,000 staff across its Gdansk Shipyard site and its new 80,000sqm site further east along the Martwa Wisla river.

Fernando Alonso on the first Sunreef 80 Eco, which debuted in 2022

Over the summer, during a tour of the two shipyards, Sunreef was building 36 yachts simultaneously, a remarkable figure considering the best-selling models are the Sunreef 80 sailing cat and 80 Sunreef Power, while the smallest models are the Sunreef 50 and 60, and 60 Sunreef Power.

Furthermore, the complexity of models has increased with the launch of the Eco range, in which an advanced solar-panel ‘skin’ is integrated into the hull sides, superstructure, hard top roof and even the mast on sailing models.

The first Sunreef 60 Eco also launched in 2022

Other green tech on Eco models can include hydrogeneration, wind turbines, ultra-light lithium batteries, and sustainable materials used in the finish and décor or even superstructure. This year, Sunreef has launched the first 80 Eco and 60 Eco sailing models, as the builder works hard to keep up with demand.

“The Gdansk Shipyard has a great reputation and has access to many skilled workers, although finding enough workforce for both sites has been a challenge recently,” Lapp said. “That’s why we employ many workers from abroad and are on a constant search for more staff.”

Conrad Shipyard, named after Polish-British writer Joseph Conrad, was founded in Gdansk in 2003, a year after Sunreef. The brand was created as a luxury-yacht arm of the Marine Projects shipyard established in 1989 and today the companies have about 400 staff between them.

Mikolaj Krol, son-in-law of the shipyard’s owner, is CEO of Conrad and has overseen the company’s up and downs for almost 20 years.

“I was green when I started, but my father-in-law had faith in me running the company. If I had known at that time how hard the work would be, I would never have done it,” laughed Krol, who was initially an architect. “Anyway, after many years of superhuman effort by everyone, I’m proud of where we are. We’ve outlasted some competitors elsewhere in Europe.”

There’s good reason for his optimism. Conrad’s business started with the 27m Bill Dixon-designed Escape S (now Chillin) launched in 2005 and has included a hugely diverse range of custom motor and sailing yachts, refits and short-lived series.

The early years also included two stylish 15m tugboats developed with Polish designer Juliusz Strawinski, the jet-powered Capo series of aluminium motorboats, and the 55-knot SUC Docksta line of luxuriously finished patrol-boat-style vessels built for Middle East clients.

Later models included Lunar (2013), the 35m aluminium ketch motorsailer, and Bellkara (2016), a 28m aluminium sloop, while in 2014 the yard completed a refit of the classic 46m steel schooner Malcolm Miller launched in 1968.

However, it was the 40m Viatoris for a repeat client that put Conrad on the luxury superyacht map, especially following its world premiere at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show.

The 44m Ace is the first C144S by Conrad

Featuring an exterior by UK-based firm Reymond Langton and naval architecture by Dutch studio Diana Yacht Design, the C133 model won multiple awards and inspired the upcoming C144S that has received not one but two orders.

Like the 393GT Viatoris, the C144S is designed by Reymond Langton and Diana Yacht Design but is bigger in every way, with an overall length of 44m, a beam of 8.9m and a volume of 494GT. The S is for ‘straight bow’, with the plumb bow adding extra volume for a yacht with an owner’s suite, four VIP guest cabins, four double cabins for crew and a captain’s cabin on the bridge.

Notably, the C144S is the first Conrad yacht to not feature interior design by Krol himself, with Italy’s m2atelier taking on the role. The first hull, Ace, launched in October (click for article) and was handed over to its Swiss owner in December, while the second hull sold to a French client is scheduled to launch in 2023.

“The C144S is like a big sister of the C133,” Krol said. “The first hull is for someone who liked Viatoris, but wanted a more modern silhouette, a plumb bow and more volume for crew. Both have timeless designs and I think both Viatoris and the C144S will still look great in years to come.”

After years of one-off superyachts, Conrad will mark its 20th anniversary in 2023 with ongoing production of their biggest model to date while promoting the C133, C133S, C144S, C155 and other designs on the board.

“We’re now in a position to start building customised superyachts on a more regular production scale,” said Krol. “However, there’s a special spirit at Conrad because we’re not too big and every client can still discuss everything with me directly. I’m personally connected with each yacht – they’re like my babies.”
