Damen Yachting has delivered the Xplorer 60 After You and the YS53 Emotional simultaneously to the same owner. Sold and managed by TWW Yachts, both yachts were built and launched at Damen Yachting’s shipyard in Antalya, Turkey, and will be displayed at the Monaco Yacht Show from September 24-27.

Enrique Tintore, Damen Yachting’s Product & Design Manager for Xplorer and Yacht Support, said: “Being able to deliver the very first Xplorer 60 and the latest 53m Yacht Support is the result of a fantastic collaboration between the Damen Yachting teams in Antalya and in Vlissingen as well as the clients’ team at TWW Yachts. This double delivery is a landmark moment for Damen Yachting.”

After You, the new Xplorer 60

Damen Yachting, headquartered in Vlissingen in southern Netherlands, handled the naval architecture of the Xplorer 60, Dutch studio Azure designed the exterior, while the interior was by H2 Yacht Design, which has offices in the UK and France. Boasting an overall length of 197ft, After You has a volume of 1,160GT and accommodation for 12 guests along with 16 crew plus captain.

“The Xplorer 60 After You is a 60m masterpiece, designed not only for extreme adventurers but as a superyacht, seamlessly blending bold design, ultimate comfort and freedom,” Damen Yachting stated. “With its striking hull and unmistakable presence, the Xplorer 60 is as comfortable navigating the glamorous hotspots of the Mediterranean as she is exploring polar frontiers.”

Emotional, the latest YS53

Emotional is the latest YS53, a 175ft, 499GT support vessel featuring Damen Yachting’s naval architecture, exterior design and interior design. Including accommodation for eight guests and 10 crew plus captain, the 175-footer provides support for the owner through additional crew, toys, helicopter facilities, and logistical capacity.

David Westwood, CEO of TWW Yachts, said: “As representatives of the owner, our foremost responsibility was to ensure that their vision, expectations and long-term interests were safeguarded throughout the project. The result is an exceptional explorer yacht paired with a powerful support vessel, together creating a unique platform for discovery and adventure at sea.

“We are pleased to have partnered with Damen Yachting, whose shipyard expertise and proven build quality have been integral to achieving this outcome. Their technical proficiency and reliability as a supplier allowed us to focus on the owner’s priorities with complete confidence.”

Mondolfo in Italy’s Marche region is the historic and modern home of Pershing, a brand celebrating 40 years of pioneering motoryacht designs emphasising speed, sensations, advanced technology and zen-like interiors.

Sandro Sartini designed Pershing’s futuristic-looking Mondolfo facility

This year marks four decades since Pershing was founded in 1985 and it’s a landmark that marks the evolution of a brand synonymous with speed, style and luxury, as evidenced in the brand’s recent 40th-anniversary celebrations in Capri.

Actually, the Pershing story started in the early 1980s when Tilli Antonelli, Fausto Filippetti and Giuliano Onori founded Cantiere Navale dell’Adriatico in a small shed in Mondolfo, a slightly inland town on Italy’s Adriatic coast that’s better known for farming and wine than high-tech yacht production.

Cantiere Navale dell’Adriatico was founded in 1981

Focused initially on sailing boats and refits, the shipyard’s breakthrough came in 1985 when its founders began working with Italian designer Fulvio De Simoni on a line of powerboats they called ‘Pershing’. Yes, that’s Pershing as in the US Army’s former nuclear-capable ballistic missile, named after General John J Pershing. The brand implies performance, power and cutting-edge technology.

“Pershing boats have never been classic or conservative, that’s not their target,” says De Simoni, who has designed most Pershing yachts over the past four decades. “They are fast and aggressive, and are created for people who want to stand out from the crowd in what they do and what they own.”

The Pershing 45 debuted in 1985

Pershing yacht owners agree. Edi Orioli, who owns a Pershing 70, says: “Pershing makes you feel like a star, even when you’re alone, anchored in a bay. It has a sporty spirit, but at the same time is comfortable and safe.”

Michele Giacometti, owner of a Pershing 9X, adds: “Pershing isn’t just a brand. It’s a status symbol, a synonym of design, elegance, sportiness and attention to detail, as well as pure adrenaline for lovers of speed.”

Current models in Capri for Pershing’s 40th-anniversary celebrations

Today, Pershing’s X and GTX ranges are built in GRP at the brand’s 84,500sqm Mondolfo shipyard, which opened in 2004 and is located just a stone’s throw from where the brand began building over four decades ago.

Designed by architect Sandro Sartini, the shipyard includes a glass-fronted office building, four construction sheds, two painting booths and an 8m-wide test pool, which is big enough to fit the GTX116. Highlights of the office building include internal access to a suspended walkway that offers a dramatic internal view over one of the sheds.

The current facility’s spectacular glass-fronted offices

A total of 27 work stations are used to build as many yachts in parallel and the shipyard can handle highly specialised processes such as PPG-certified dry painting, which gives Pershing yachts a level of finish comparable to luxury cars. The test pool is then used to ensure maximum reliability before yachts are put on a truck and transported to Fano, 20km northwest up the coast, where the yachts are launched in the water.

GAME CHANGERS

De Simoni’s first design for Antonelli, Filippetti and Onori was the Pershing 45. With the speed of a powerboat combined with comfortable and spacious interiors, this boat marked the beginning of the Pershing era. Its success put a spotlight on a brand that was quickly becoming synonymous with innovation, performance and design.

The Pershing 70 was among 1990s models

Since the unveiling of the Pershing 45 in 1985, the shipyard has continuously introduced game-changing technologies that enhance safety, comfort and performance. The Pershing 54 and 70 models were created in the 1990s, while the early 2000s saw the launch of the first Pershing 88, the 72 and the 50.

Pershing is a world leader in using surface-piercing propeller systems for recreational boats and has been using waterjets with gas turbine propulsion since the first Pershing 115 was launched in 2004. The model was the shipyard’s first 30m-plus yacht and had a sleek, aggressive and aerodynamic profile.

The Pershing 115 was launched in 2004

Power was provided by twin 3,700hp MTU 16V4000 engines and Kamewa waterjets that pushed the 115 up to 41 knots, while the addition of the optional 5,100hp Textron Lycoming turbine enabled the 189GT yacht to top 55 knots.

The Pershing 108 launched in 2011 offered truly fasten-your-seatbelts speed due to the combo of three engines and three surface-piercing propellers, with the performance enhanced by construction solutions that optimised weight, seakeeping and cruising comfort.

The Pershing 108 debuted in 2011

Pershing innovations have also extended to design and on-board technology. From the outset the brand has blended aesthetics and functionality with solutions that have since become industry standards, such as the hydraulic gangway first used on the Pershing 45 and the concealed sliding glass door pioneered on the Pershing 72. Both innovations were developed in partnership with Besenzoni.

Design-wise, Pershing introduced sleek, sporty shapes with features such as the pillar-free windscreen and the ‘Pershing wing’ introduced on the Pershing 70 (2014 version).

Owner’s suite on the new Pershing GTX70

The yachts’ interiors are spacious, light-filled and carefully crafted thanks to collaborations with top brands including Poltrona Frau, which is also based in the Marche region and has been a partner of Pershing since working on the Pershing 72 – the company’s first yacht project – unveiled in 2007.

In terms of ownership, Pershing became part of the Ferretti Group in 1998 and in 2012 the arrival of the Weichai Group strengthened the brand’s appeal in Asia, America and Europe. Through it all, Pershing has continued to work with De Simoni and to anticipate trends to meet the expectations of the most demanding owners in terms of performance, design and luxury.

MODERN GENERATION

Pershing’s current production models are led by the X and GTX series. The ‘X Generation’ includes the 5X, 6X, 7X, 8X and 9X models, where the use of ultra-lightweight materials and integrated control systems meet sleek lines.

Pershing, Tilli Antonelli, Fausto Filippetti, Giuliano Onori, Cantiere Navale dell’Adriatico, Mondolfo, Fulvio De Simoni, Italy, Adriatic Coast, powerboats, speed boats, day boats, motoryachts, superyachts, Besenzoni, Ferretti Group, Poltrona Frau, Weichai Group

Pershing 7X from the ‘X Generation’

The newer GTX ‘sport utility’ series includes the GTX116 (2023), GTX80 (2024) and GTX70 (2025) models that offer comfort and liveability without compromising on Pershing’s style and performance.

However, the brand’s biggest yacht to date is the Pershing 140, which is built at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona, about 35km southeast down the coast. Packing four engines, the 140 is the brand’s first yacht to be built in aluminium.

An Asian owner ordered the first Pershing 140’

The first hull in this series, Chorusline, was bought by an Asian owner and handed over in 2019. Output has since been steady, with the Ancona shipyard currently completing hull five of this technological marvel.

Pershing has created a spectacular story to date, yet a key part of its evolution has been its yacht owners. Franco Uzzeni has had multiple Pershing yachts and is currently among the privileged few to

own a flagship 140. “For many years, Pershing has been a life journey for us,” he says.

Pershing, Tilli Antonelli, Fausto Filippetti, Giuliano Onori, Cantiere Navale dell’Adriatico, Mondolfo, Fulvio De Simoni, Italy, Adriatic Coast, powerboats, speed boats, day boats, motoryachts, superyachts, Besenzoni, Ferretti Group, Poltrona Frau, Weichai Group

The Pershing GTX116 is the flagship of the new ‘sport utility yacht’ series

“We started with a 54, then an 88, followed by the 115, which we kept for over 10 years. For the last four years, we’ve had a wonderful 140. I used to race cars as a hobby, so in boats I’ve always looked for comfort combined with excellent performance.”

Much as its yachts stand out from the crowd for their looks and performance, Pershing stands out – and has stood out for four decades now – for its bold vision and openness to innovation. This is a brand that’s celebrating being 40 years young, not 40 years old.

Riva has launched the first 54Metri, Sairu, at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona, where spectacular fireworks were a major part of the celebrations as the brand championed its largest yacht to date.

Alain Maaraoui, founder and President of Sea Pros Yachts, Riva’s exclusive dealer in Kuwait, played a key role in the project, having worked with Sairu’s owner during contract negotiations and the entire construction process through to delivery.

Officina Italiana Design, Riva’s exclusive designer for three decades, designed the 54Metri in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari and its Engineering Department. The all-aluminium yacht has an overall length of 54m, a beam of 8.6m and a sub-500GT volume.

Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group’s CEO, said: “Now every yachting enthusiast and Riva fan has a new boat to dream about. A paragon of beauty and elegance, Riva 54Metri showcases the unstoppable momentum of the world’s most famous shipyard in its pursuit of innovation and its celebration of the art of cruising.

“The largest Riva ever built right now is the new wonder of the sea, a masterpiece of style by Officina Italiana Design that will turn heads in every marina and on every stretch of water on the planet. I’d like to congratulate everyone who worked on this extraordinary yacht that so magnificently celebrates the visionary genius of Carlo Riva and his megayacht project of the 1960s and 1970s, writing another spectacular page in the history of Riva and yachting.”

The superyacht features sleek, sporty lines, while the exterior colour scheme includes a combination of Moon Grey, London Grey and Bright Black, accented by detailing in polished steel.

Spanning four decks, with the lower, main and upper levels connected by a lift, the 54Metri can accommodate up to 10 passengers in a master suite forward on the main deck and four guest cabins. The crew area has five double cabins and a captain’s cabin next to the wheelhouse, for an 11-strong team.

At the stern, a large transformer platform with an extra-wide walkway provides access to the beach area, where a 5m-long pool takes centre stage and is flanked by sunloungers on either side. Five steps higher, the cockpit on the main deck is furnished with a large sofa, armchairs and an outdoor bar. Both hull sides in the beach club and cockpit areas fold out to form terraces on the water.

At the bow are two large sun sofas that extend the lounge area and hide from view part of the technical space beneath, which has been designed with a hinge mechanism to make it easier to launch and haul up the tender, jetski and water toys.

“The spectacular outdoor areas are the standout feature of Riva 54Metri,” Riva stated. “They’re designed to establish a permanent connection with the water for owner and guests, as well as to offer opportunities for fun and relaxation in complete privacy.”

The interiors feature fine marble including Sahara Noir and Bianco Rhino, alternating with natural teak panelling and leather finishes to create contrasts of colour and texture.

A focus on guest privacy led to the creation of special crew routes to ensure discreet, efficient service on all decks. As acoustic comfort was another priority, four electric stabiliser fins and two electric rudders are among solutions to reduce vibrations and noise.

The helm station is equipped with two X-band radar systems, 5G connectivity plus a Starlink antenna, a full ECDIS system, three 27in touchscreens and a 44in stretch monitor.

Leopard Catamarans enhances warranty

The catamaran brand’s enhanced warranty system combines a dedicated channel and expertise from a global builder-OEM partnership network.

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

Leopard Catamarans, whose sailing and power catamarans are built in South Africa by Robertson and Caine (R&C), has announced details of its enhanced warranty offering, which leverages decades of customer feedback and industry-leading digital technology.

Fine-tuned over the past year, the extensive warranty programme is “designed to provide catamaran owners with exceptional support and peace of mind”, according to Leopard. The comprehensive dual-warranty framework combines builder and OEM coverage with real-time digital tracking and global service network integration, streamlining submissions while reducing response times.

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

The builder warranty provides 14-month protection against construction defects – ranging from cosmetic imperfections to installation issues – plus extended 24-month coverage for non-structural windows, recognising the unique stresses of marine environments. Long-term structural assurance continues with six-year coverage for hulls, decks, deck lids, flybridges, bulkheads and structural webs.

The OEM warranty ensures all onboard systems are covered by each manufacturing partner. Once owners are registered with Yanmar, Northern Lights and Raymarine, Leopard will act as the owner’s single liaison, removing the complexity of managing multiple manufacturer relationships.

Further simplifying the claims process, Leopard has developed a warranty portal on its website. A dedicated team reviews each submitted claim and offers owners status updates through Trello, a web-based workflow application.

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

Leopard’s claims process provides real-time claim transparency, connecting owners directly with support teams, engineers and R&C technicians through shared status updates, progress notes and live commentary throughout the repair process.

Whether the issue falls under the R&C warranty or OEM, Leopard will assign the claim to a warranty customer support agent who will help evaluate and process the claim from start to finish. That same agent remains the owner’s main point of contact for all aspects of the warranty claim, from revising or approving estimates, payments and reimbursements.

Leopard’s global network spans six continents and more than 20 countries, providing owners with worldwide support when and where they need it.

Leopard Catamarans, Robertson and Caine, R&C, South Africa

Prioritising getting owners back on the water as quickly as possible, Leopard works with qualified service centres for R&C warranty work or the owner’s preferred yard for smaller repairs. For OEM claims, Leopard directly resolves straightforward issues, or assigns certified technicians and authorised service centres for complex engine or electronics problems.

“The goal with our warranty programme is simple: to give Leopard owners the confidence and clarity they deserve,” said Jese Vega, Leopard’s Warranty and Commissioning Manager. “By combining decades of customer feedback with new digital tools and a truly global service network, we’ve created a system that prioritises fast, transparent support, wherever in the world our owners are cruising.”

Riva 112’ Dolcevita Super

Ferretti Group has announced that it will stage six world premieres at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14) along with the Ferretti Yachts 940 and Pershing GTX70, which both debuted at this year’s Venice Boat Show (May 29-June 2).

Riva’s 112’ Dolcevita Super – an upgrade of the 110’ Dolcevita – will be the largest of four Riva premieres in Cannes. The superyacht can top 25 knots with two 2,638mhp MTU 16V engines, while highlights include a 59sqm aft cockpit featuring a 35sqm beach club with large fold-down sides. The 60sqm flybridge features a spacious aft area with freestanding furniture, a cocktail bar with stools, and a retractable TV opposite a large central sofa.

The saloon is available with sofas at the entrance leading forward to the dining area, or an aft dining area and lounge midships. In the owner’s suite, enlarged windows bring in more natural light, while a double walk-in wardrobe adds both space and practicality.

Riva 58’ Capri

The 112’ Dolcevita Super will be complemented by the world premieres of Riva’s 58’ Capri, Cento and Aquariva Special. Earlier this year, the three smaller models were shown to a select crowd at the Riva Private World Premiere, held at the brand’s historic Sarnico shipyard on Lake Iseo in northern Italy.

The 58’ Capri evolves from the 56’ Rivale platform and draws design inspiration from the 68’ Diable, and is available with twin 1,000mhp or 1,200mhp MAN V8 engines, the latter powering the yacht to 37 knots.

A new addition to Riva’s Open series, the 58’ Capri features a streamline hardtop with a retractable electric bimini and a forward-facing air intake that can be opened electrically. Below deck are two double cabins for guests and one for crew, while the aft garage can house either a Williams TurboJet 325 tender or a TurboJet 285 alongside a Seabob.

Riva Cento

The 39ft Cento is a limited-edition model produced to celebrate the 100th unit of the Rivamare and can reach 40 knots with twin Volvo Penta Aquamatic Duoprop D6-440 DPI engines. Building on the Rivamare design, the Cento features an updated swim platform with an electro-hydraulic hatch that opens to create a beach area complete with chaise longues, storage for fenders and Seabobs, and a retractable gangway.

The seating area can be converted into a sunbathing space due to a height-adjustable electric table, and can be sheltered by an electro-hydraulic bimini integrated into the C-shaped sofa. Other design additions include an aft handrail fully integrated into the hull profile.

Upgraded soft furnishings include two upholstery colour options: biscuit or a combination of aquamarine and white. Inside, the large convertible dinette follows the contours of the hull and transforms into a double berth. The cabin is bright and airy, due to a redesigned bow skylight and wide side windows.

Riva Aquariva Special

The 33ft Aquariva Special is the first model to be given the ‘Special’ designation since the upgrade of the brand’s iconic Aquarama.

The spiritual successor of the Aquarama, the Aquariva has been in production since 2001, with 300 units produced in 24 years. Fitted with a 370hp Yanmar 8LV, the Aquariva Special can cruise at 36 knots and reach 41.5 knots.

New features include redesigned bow navigation lights, a sleeker, more aerodynamic double-glazed spherical windscreen, an enlarged stern platform for easier access to the sea, and updated cushions with new colours and refined chiaroscuro effects. The bridge instrumentation is analogue in the standard version but available in a digital version.

Ferretti Yachts 800

Along with the four Riva models, the Ferretti Yachts 800 and Itama 54 will also be among the global debuts in Cannes.

The Ferretti Yachts 800 completes the Flybridge range renewal that began in 2018 and is another collaboration between Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and its Engineering Department, Filippo Salvetti for exterior design and IdeaeItalia for the interiors.

The yacht has an overall length of 80ft 3in – or under 24m with an optional shorter stern platform – and has a 19ft 5in beam. Highlights include the 40sqm flybridge, while the saloon has the option of a sliding door on the starboard side. The yacht has a top speed of 27 knots with two 1,550hp MAN V12 engines or 31 knots with the optional 1,800hp versions.

Itama 54

The Itama 54, available with 730hp or 850hp MAN i6 engines, expands the brand’s range by making a return to the 50-59ft open cruiser runabout segment. Tommaso De Luca handled the exterior styling and the interior design in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee and Engineering Department.

The design of the 54-footer with a 15ft 6in beam stays true to the brand’s pared-down style, although innovations include the large forward sunpad built into the deck and an outward-angled transom, which is covered by an aft-facing sunpad.

Firsts include side glazing running the entire length of the hull and an exterior living space featuring two separate seating areas, aft and fore, while a bench-seat helm station to port completes the main deck. The lower deck includes two cabins, two bathrooms, a galley and a dinette.

The Italian shipyard has introduced new features on the latest addition to its SL series of asymmetrical planing yachts.

Sanlorenzo will debut the SL110A at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14), where the Italian builder’s world premieres will also include the SX120 and SD132. Fitting between the SL96A and SL120A, the SL110A has an overall length of 33.5m and is the second-longest model in Sanlorenzo’s SL series of planing yachts, now entirely made up of asymmetric models.

Another Sanlorenzo design collaboration with Zuccon International Project for the exterior and Lissoni & Partners for the interior, the 231GT model features a widebody design to port and continues a design journey that began with the SL102A and evolved through the SL106A. The SL110A reaches 27 knots with twin 2,637hp MTU 16V2000 M96L engines and has a 1,250nm range at ‘economical speed’.

Tommaso Vincenzi, Sanlorenzo’s CEO, said the SL110A also honours the former SL108, which was launched in 2005, the year Massimo Perotti acquired the shipyard. “The SL110A concept embodies the sophisticated spatial ergonomics that made the iconic SL108 a true industry benchmark, setting her clearly apart from competition and enabling Sanlorenzo to establish itself in the larger yachts segment,” Vincenzi said.

“The SL110A is a clear statement of Sanlorenzo’s design philosophy, where architectural purity meets innovation with purpose yet elegance. The asymmetry is not just aesthetic: it unlocks greater interior space, uninterrupted views, and a feeling of openness that transforms life on board. It’s a yacht designed for those who appreciate elegance and architectural intellect in equal measure.”

Sanlorenzo, SL110A, SX120, SD132, Cannes Yachting Festival, SL102A, SL106A, SL108, Zuccon International Project, Bernardo Zuccon, Piero Lissoni, Lissoni & Partners, Tommaso Vincenzi

A full-beam owner’s suite with direct access to a bow pool, and a large saloon with starboard balcony are among signature features. The reimagined bow, developed with Lissoni & Partners, eliminates the typical aerodynamic ‘bonnet’ in favour of a true sea-facing terrace, complete with integrated sofas and a swimming pool. A hidden hatch conceals the mooring area.

Aft, the transom door opens to become a platform and reveal a garage for a tender and jetski. In the cockpit, a transparent aft gunwale increases the connection with sea, while versatile furniture allows the area to offer sunbathing or dining. A clean profile is maintained by retractable stairs and staggered starboard and port gangways built into the interior.

Sanlorenzo, SL110A, SX120, SD132, Cannes Yachting Festival, SL102A, SL106A, SL108, Zuccon International Project, Bernardo Zuccon, Piero Lissoni, Lissoni & Partners, Tommaso Vincenzi

Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project said: “Asymmetry on SL110A is not simply a formal gesture but a tool to reshape the spatial harmony onboard, creating a more captivating experience. It allows us to sculpt wider interiors, open panoramic views, and dissolve boundaries between inside and out. In every curve and volume, there is a deliberate move toward an architecture that enhances the owner’s connection to the sea.”

The interior benefits from large windows, retractable bulwarks and sliding gunwales for greater views, natural light and airflow, while the main saloon opens onto the sea via a drop-down terrace.

Sanlorenzo, SL110A, SX120, SD132, Cannes Yachting Festival, SL102A, SL106A, SL108, Zuccon International Project, Bernardo Zuccon, Piero Lissoni, Lissoni & Partners, Tommaso Vincenzi

As well as the main-deck master cabin, which has private access to the bow and flybridge, there are four lower-deck guest cabins, comprising two VIP suites and two convertible twin/double cabins. The generous crew quarters include six berths in three cabins, and a separate mess.

The mezzanine housing the wheelhouse provides direct access to the flybridge, offering the flexibility to create a sunbathing lounge, alfresco dining area or private retreat with direct access to the pool.

Sanlorenzo, SL110A, SX120, SD132, Cannes Yachting Festival, SL102A, SL106A, SL108, Zuccon International Project, Bernardo Zuccon, Piero Lissoni, Lissoni & Partners, Tommaso Vincenzi

In terms of décor, dark wood panelling, coffered ceilings with resin finishes, herringbone patterns and stone-effect materials define the refined interior atmosphere, while the owner’s bathroom is finished in luxurious Calacatta marble.

Piero Lissoni said: “Given her new proportions, dimensions and clean lines, I believe the SL110A is one of the most elegant yachts Sanlorenzo has ever produced, perhaps one of the most elegant yachts currently in production. She has a design language that is increasingly architectural and distinctly less naval.”

Rolex Fastnet Race’s centenary edition honours the legend

Among a record 444 entries, the 34ft Léon won the overall title in this year’s Rolex Fastnet Race, while Black Jack 100 secured monohull line honours.

For 100 years, the Rolex Fastnet Race has stood as one of offshore sailing’s most complete proving grounds. The 51st edition, marking the centenary of the race’s founding in 1925, more than lived up to that reputation. The story of 2025 adds to the legend.

Experiences from the race course demonstrate time and again that this is more than a just a yacht race. It is a true test of human endeavour, an irresistible challenge. Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, the Rolex Fastnet Race has been supported by Rolex since 2001, and is a pillar of its privileged relationship with yachting, which began almost 70 years ago.

The 695nm course appears straightforward: sail west to the Fastnet Rock, the iconic halfway point off southern Ireland, before returning east to Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, France. As the record fleet of 444 entries set off from Cowes, England on July 26, the forecast winds were a far cry from those that ravaged the previous two editions. A less physical race was in store.

Rolex Fastnet Race, Léon, Fastnet Challenge Cup, trimaran, SVR Lazartigue, Black Jack 100, monohull

By the close, it was clear this year’s race had still been tough, a more mental examination, testing tactics, strategy and tenacity. Threading a path between the complexities of pressure and tides required constant focus, attention to immediate conditions and accurate assessment of what might lie ahead.

The three yachts that emphatically nailed the process were Léon from France, which won the Fastnet Challenge Cup for overall victory under IRC time correction, French trimaran SVR Lazartigue, the first to finish the race, and Black Jack 100 of Monaco, which secured monohull line honours.

Overall Winner
Racing in the main monohull category comprising 380 entrants, the 10.43m (34ft) Léon may have appeared one of many minnows. The diverse entry list competing for the principal prize ranged in size from 9m (30ft) up to the 30.5m (100ft) Maxis, with innovative designs as well as classics from the 1960s, such as Stormvogel, a line honours winner on her debut in 1961.

Léon is, in fact, a wolf and without disguise. The latest model built by JPK Composites in Brittany and designed by Jacques Valer, Léon is a compact racer optimised for short-handed crews. With offshore features such as a rounded (scow) bow, planing hull, light displacement and impressive sail area, in the right hands she is a weapon.

Rolex Fastnet Race, Léon, Fastnet Challenge Cup, trimaran, SVR Lazartigue, Black Jack 100, monohull

Alexis Loison and Jean-Pierre Kelbert are undoubtedly the right hands. Kelbert is the founder of the builder, and knows all the intricacies of Léon. Most significantly, Loison has previously won the Rolex Fastnet Race, in 2013 with his father Pascal. The Loisons were the first-ever double-handed crew to win the race overall. Among other accolades, including winning the two-handed category on six occasions since his debut in 2005, once with Kelbert in 2019, Loison’s credentials extend to being part of the victorious crew at the 2018 Rolex Middle Sea Race, also with Kelbert.

Kelbert was understandably thrilled with the victory: “We had a super race. Alexis injected an intensity and rhythm that I worked hard to keep up with. We had the real ambition to win our class, which we had done before. We knew we had a good boat, but everything has to align. We did well up the Rock even if it was uncomfortable. The way back was fast in a lot of wind until just before the end, when Alexis negotiated currents superbly. To win overall, I am so satisfied and proud of what we have achieved.”

Loison’s pathway to becoming one of the top exponents of short-handed offshore sailing began early in life, as did his captivation with this legendary contest: “Ever since I was small, I have known about the Rolex Fastnet Race. I got into sailing because of my father. When I was growing up, he talked about the race all the time. It became the absolute Grail.”

Crossing the finish was an emotional homecoming. Loison is from Cherbourg, and friends and family were waiting. It also marked a significant milestone on Loison’s journey. A transfer of knowledge which began in childhood was now complete.

“It was special to see my father on the dock,” he said. “He was my best teacher, especially the waters [around here], where he taught me all about the tide and the wind. When we had light wind at the end, I knew what to do, what the best strategy would be. It was a good moment.”

The reintroduction of the Admiral’s Cup division to the Rolex Fastnet Race after a near 30-year absence had led to a tantalising injection of talent. Stars of elite sailing were spread throughout. The contest on the water was remarkable. Opponents were separated by minutes and occasionally seconds. Battles lasted from The Solent to the Fastnet, down to the Scillies and to the Cotentin peninsula. Heightened competition was infectious.

Loison described Léon’s own confrontations: “Intense, no sleep, strategy, strategy and more strategy. We did not have an easy moment. It was always hard finding the right time to sleep, to make good choices and to push. We were very tired at the end.

“We made a lot of good decisions. One key moment was to go with the big spinnaker just after the rock when the wind was 25 to 27 knots. We were pushing very hard, but by the Scillies we could see it had been a good choice. There were a lot of bigger boats around us.”

On the evening of the fourth day, the overall win appeared to have gone the way of the virtually all-pro Jolt 6 representing the Yacht Club de Monaco, finishing 25 seconds on elapsed time behind the equally-talented Callisto of New Zealand and just ahead of Beau Ideal from Hong Kong, another high-quality team. Few were paying attention to a group of two-handed crews making fast progress. It was too much to expect a double-handed entry to beat the mighty array of fully-crewed yachts already ‘in the clubhouse’.

Loison was among those to doubt: “The Rolex Fastnet Race is cream of the offshore races. It is the race that everyone talks about all over the world, and that every sailor comes to. It was great to see the Admiral’s Cup teams taking part, but when I saw the level of the crews, I said ‘that’s it’.’’

Entering port the following day just before noon, Léon topped the leaderboard by an emphatic two hours on corrected time. The enormity of the achievement took time to sink in, according to Loison.

“Coming top of the ranking in the 100th anniversary year of the Rolex Fastnet Race is something really special,” he said. “We have barely had time to understand what we have done. It is always difficult to imagine winning the race overall before the start because there are so many boats, and all the different weather scenarios really have to come together. Plus, it was already hard to conceive of winning the race just once, and to win again even less so.”

One person who appreciated Loison’s talents had been expecting this moment: “In 2013, my father kept the Rolex watch [awarded to the overall winner] saying to me I was young, I would win again. And here we are.”

Line Honours
Racing the most powerful yachts on the Rolex Fastnet Race course has a glamorous vibe. Feted by the public, modern-day multihull and monohull Maxis are carbon-fibre masterpieces of technology. Few stones are left unturned in the search for the ultimate combination of speed and seaworthiness.

‘To finish first, first you have to finish’ elevates fitness for purpose and reliability in the pursuit of offshore excellence. Breakages can be terminal. Racing these leviathans is stressful and requires calm, clarity of thought.

Four Ultim trimarans took part. The pace may have been slower than previous years, but the competition was no less captivating. SVR Lazartigue, the race record holder from 2023, hit the start line on the gun and at speed. The crew, featuring Rolex SailGP Championship athlete Pete Burling, quickly carved out a slim advantage. First to the rock, they steadily built an unassailable lead arriving in an elapsed time of 41 hours, 18 minutes and four seconds.

A closer battle was delivered by the selection of 30.5m (100ft) monohulls. During the first half of the race, SHK Scallywag from Hong Kong held off the advances of Black Jack and Leopard 3. Once around the Fastnet Rock, the race to Cherbourg became a contest of downwind speed and sail-handling. Black Jack squeezed into the lead, and successfully unpicked the wind and tide conditions to cross the line an elapsed time of two days, 12 hours, 31 minutes and 21 seconds.

Beating Scallywag was a reversal of the 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race, and proof to Black Jack skipper Tristan Le Brun that this was a milestone in his team’s journey.

“We were extremely disappointed about last year,” he said. “It took time to recover but it was real motivation. We did a big refit; we trained really hard and were very excited to come to the Rolex Fastnet Race. We knew Scallywag and Leopard would be fast upwind, but we would have a chance if we worked well. Our goal was to stay with them to the Rock. We executed that plan very well. Downwind we were fast and focussed, and communication was good.”

Le Brun was clear what it meant to win line honours in the centenary Rolex Fastnet Race: “It has been a dream my entire life to participate in this type of event, and I am extremely proud of what we have achieved as a team.”

The Rolex Fastnet Race has come a long from the seven yachts that took part 100 years ago. The Royal Ocean Racing Club, itself founded in the immediate aftermath, may be proud of the reputation and standing its flagship contest has achieved. Rolex, too, is proud to be associated a race which, one century on, continues to epitomise both human endeavour and achievement.

Azimut has revealed photos of a new hull of its Grande Trideck series featuring interior design by m2atelier, co-founded and headed by Marijana Radovic and Marco Bonelli. The Milan-based studio has succeeded Achille Salvagni as the interior designer for the Italian builder’s Grande superyachts.

The new Trideck will be shown at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14) along with two other superyachts featuring m2atelier interiors: a Grande 36M and the much-anticipated Grande 30M, making its world premiere and the first new Azimut model designed in collaboration with m2atelier.

Azimut, Federico Lantero, M2atelier, Marijana Radovic, Marco Bonelli, Grande, Trideck, Cannes Yachting Festival, Achille Salvagni, barefoot luxury, Grande 36M, Grande 30M

A feature wall will appear across all m2atelier projects for Azimut. On the Trideck, the saloon has an ‘unveiling wall’ composed of vertical slats that can slide to reveal a large TV screen. Other highlights on the main deck include the full-beam owner’s suite, while the upper-deck skylounge can be adapted from a lounge to a media room or an indoor dining area due to a versatile, high-low table.

‘Barefoot luxury’ is the theme of m2atelier’s designs for Azimut, which has described the new interiors as “a seamless fusion of sophistication and informality, tailored for a new wave of contemporary yacht owners”. However, according to m2atelier, light is the unifying language of this aesthetic philosophy, guiding perception and revealing depth.

Azimut, Federico Lantero, M2atelier, Marijana Radovic, Marco Bonelli, Grande, Trideck, Cannes Yachting Festival, Achille Salvagni, barefoot luxury, Grande 36M, Grande 30M

“For us, light is not an accessory. It’s the silent force that gives form to space, reveals the textures of materials, and brings emotional depth to the onboard experience,” Radovic and Bonelli stated.

“On the Grande Trideck, light becomes the invisible thread that connects every environment, accentuating the fluidity of the layout and giving each area a distinct atmosphere. We did not want to decorate with light; we wanted it to sculpt. On the Grande Trideck, light becomes architecture.”

The interior language is warm and measured, stripped-back yet refined, while materials are few but rich in texture. Straight lines dominate, with horizontal and vertical lines expanding the sense of space, and diagonals introducing a feeling of welcome and intimacy.

The yacht also features custom-made pieces crafted by Giorgetti following exclusive designs by m2atelier. Aside from the interior, changes to the new Trideck include the foredeck, which has a new recessed pool with integrated chaise longue and a pivoting sunpad backrest.

Federico Lantero, Azimut’s Head of Product Design, said: “What we wanted to achieve with m2atelier was an interior vision where every element sparks emotional resonance. It goes beyond elegance. It’s about crafting an atmosphere that evolves with those who experience it, offering an inviting calm paired with confident sophistication. The Grande Trideck embodies this idea: a superyacht not just to live but to feel.”

Van der Valk has announced that the 34.1m One – which is for sale – has successfully completed its sea trials, some of which took place in the North Sea along with the 35m Lalabe due to debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

The all-aluminium One has a full-displacement hull, twin 750hp Volvo Penta D16 engines, a 31,000-litre fuel capacity, cruises at 13 knots and has a top speed of 14.4 knots. Van der Valk stated that One represents “an exceedingly rare opportunity to jump the queue and take swift delivery of a Dutch masterpiece”.

Like Lalabe, One has been adapted from the naval platform developed by Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects for the 34m Lady Lene. One has been customised from the waterline up, with Guido de Groot working on the exterior design, creating a unique profile highlighted by forward-pointing straight lines and aft fashion plates rising to the hardtop in a continuous line.

The four-level tri-deck has a 7.8m beam and features a fold-out aft platform that creates a waterside relaxation area, while a large lazarette offers the potential to house an extensive range of water toys and gym equipment.

Outdoor social areas include and a foredeck with seating and sunbathing areas, while the sundeck has sunbeds aft, a covered dining area, bar and outdoor galley, plus a forward jacuzzi flanked by sunbeds.

Enormous attention has been paid to storage, with all spaces under sunbeds and sofas utilised.

Large expanses of glass and cutaway bulwarks on the main deck reinforce an inside-outside feel, and the 295GT yacht has a large volume for her compact size, allowing for large groups of people to be hosted and entertained.

One features a stunning interior by Carla Guilhem Design, who has created a contemporary style based on a white and pale cream base palette with pops of colour and dark wood contrasts.

The main saloon includes large floor-to-ceiling windows and soft, rounded furniture for both the lounge and dining area. Forward on the main deck is a full-beam master suite with a large walk-in wardrobe.

The bridge deck includes covered alfresco dining aft, a skylounge that benefits from extra width created by an asymmetrical design, and the wheelhouse overlooking the foredeck.

The lower deck includes four guest cabins, comprising two VIPs and two twin guest cabins, as well as a crew area forward with a mess, three cabins and a large-capacity laundry station. A walk-through from the laundry into the guest corridor is facilitated by a watertight bulkhead door fitted for damage stability.

“With guest areas spread across four decks, all beautifully realised by Van der Valk’s in-house team of craftsmen, One represents the epitome of modern luxury cruising realised by traditional artisanal building,” the shipyard stated. “In fact, everything about Project One revolves around entertaining large groups of people in style on a compact boat with lots of volume.”
