The British shipyard has revealed photography of its first new model of the year, which it has described as the “ultimate open day boat”.

The Superhawk 55 has a top speed of 38 knots

Sunseeker International has revealed photography of its new Superhawk 55 in the Mediterranean, where the British builder’s new Performance series model showcased its performance and range of social and entertainment options. The Superhawk 55’s world premiere was staged at Boot Dusseldorf in January and the model will next appear at the Venice Boat Show from May 31-June 4.

Powered by twin Volvo Penta D11-IPS950 engines matched with a hull form designed for the IPS propulsion system, the Superhawk 55 is capable of thrilling performance with “unparalleled agility”, according to Sunseeker, which says the CE Category A yacht has a potential top speed of 38 knots.

A spectacular updating of Sunseeker’s iconic Superhawk series, the 55 has an overall length of 56ft 2in and weighs 26 tonnes at half load. Conceived in response to the current demands for open day boats, the full-walkaround model features an open-plan arrangement and a full-beam cockpit.

The yacht starts with a large, clean open swim platform and a remarkably well concealed garage door that drops to reveal space for a Williams MiniJet. Up a couple of steps, the aft cockpit can make full use of the yacht’s 16ft 2in beam due to twin pantograph doors adjacent to the helm allowing forward access.

The aft half of the island sunpad can fold upwards to reveal storage for water toys like Seabobs, while covered L-shaped sofas positioned on each side of the cockpit can move diagonally aft and inwards to complete seating around the cockpit table.

Concealed appliances are integrated into the feature wet bar, while there’s also the option of a rise-and-fall TV. The finishing details are impressive, with overhead and in-deck LED lighting making a striking statement together with beautiful stainless-steel accents.

The central, three-seat helm offers the skipper and companions panoramic views and a console complete with dual display screens, charging pads and chrome multi-purpose dials.

Pantograph doors on each side offer protection from the elements or access to the foredeck. The bow area can be set up with two lounging areas fore and aft of a pop-up table or the forward section can slide aft to join form one very long triple sunpad.

The interior has an exceptional 7ft of head height in the lower lounge and galley, with natural light flooding in through a large, glazed roof with impressive lighting details.

The forward VIP and master stateroom each have an en-suite bathroom and complete a remarkable lower deck for what Sunseeker has described as the ultimate open day boat”.

“With the spirit of Sunseeker’s original Superhawk series, this 55ft performance yacht is steeped in Sunseeker heritage but re-imagined for the owners of today,” said Sean Robertson, Sales and Marketing Director at Sunseeker International. “The Superhawk 55 is the ultimate boat for day time cruising, long weekends and extended trips away.”

Amels 60 Entourage custom interiors revealed

Damen Yachting highlights Entourage’s custom interiors by Burdifilek and structural changes that will be reflected in future editions of the Amels 60.

Damen Yachting has revealed the custom interiors on board the 60m Entourage delivered to her owner earlier this year. As the second superyacht in the Amels 60 range, the 197ft, 830GT Entourage features an exterior design by Monaco-based Espen Øino International and naval architecture by Damen Yachting.

Each Amels 60 has a unique interior design and Entourage’s experienced owner appointed the Canadian design studio Burdifilek to create a luxurious, serene interior.

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

As the studio’s first superyacht project, the team at Burdifilek developed the owner’s clear brief and global vision into a tranquil and elegant home at sea.

“The owner knew exactly how he wanted to entertain and how he wanted the flow through the spaces to be. When the sun sets, the yacht transforms, shifting from day to night, evoking a completely different feeling,” says Diego Burdi, Burdifilek’s co-founder whose portfolio includes the W Hotel and New York’s Club Monaco.

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

“This unique opportunity led us on a journey of exploration where every design aspect of the yacht was considered at the highest level. Conceived as a floating oasis of luxury, the interiors are a playground of timeless elegance, ultimate comfort with a sense of peace conveyed through a monochromatic palette.”

Another interior highlight is the accommodation arrangement for both guests and crew. The extra-large owner’s suite on the main deck has a fold-down balcony, lounge area, two bathrooms and a neighbouring twin-bed guest suite.

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

With four more suites on the lower deck, Entourage can accommodate up to 12 guests. The 13 crew members are granted a modified crew area with a large laundry room and dry store.

The overall design of the Amels 60 focuses on the onboard experience, and so Burdifilek reversed the structure of the staircase to develop a more eye-catching and spacious passage.

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

Arie Midavaine, Project Manager at Damen Yachting, says: “I think the staircase is beautiful and very innovative.

“The structure is on the outside and tucked away, which is substantially different than previous models and gives much more space to move around. The ceilings are also beautiful and are free of domes – a feature that the owner brought in from this experience in real estate.”

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

The sense of freedom is maximised on the large sun deck, which has been lengthened in the aft by 1.5m and features a jacuzzi pool surrounded by sunpads, a large bar and barbecue, an alfresco dining area and a shaded L-shaped lounge.

Here, the sun awning poles were repositioned to the outside of the railing to maximise the space available.

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

Other dining and lounging options can be found throughout the yacht, including on the swim platform, main deck aft, the bridge-deck saloon, and a casual dining set-up in the main saloon. Owner input also led to an extended bridge deck, with the changes now set to influence future models.

Jan van Hogerwou, Damen Yachting’s Commercial Executive North America, explains: “At the request of the owner, we extended the bridge and sun decks aft, which has impacted the use of these decks in such a positive way that we decided to implement this change for all future builds.”

Other dining and lounging options can be found throughout the yacht, including on the swim platform, main deck aft, the bridge deck saloon, and a casual dining set-up in the main saloon.

The owner worked closely with Amels and build supervisors Moran Yacht & Ship to customise the project and utilise the builder’s well-balanced Limited Editions technical platform and fast build time.

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

Another notable change was made to the exterior styling, where the owner opted for a seamless stream of windows instead of the signature angular windows.

Sean Moran, Managing Director at Moran Yacht & Ship, says: “We’re very proud of the many customisations we were able to implement into this platform, which is a testament to the Damen Yachting engineering and production team.”

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

Having been represented in the original sale by Moran Yacht & Ship, the owner has appointed the US brokerage house as the charter Central Agent for Entourage.

On the foredeck, there is space for two tenders and two Yamaha WaveRunners, with additional toys such as Seabobs, wakeboards and diving equipment stored in the beach club, which has a sauna, day head and gym equipment.

Damen Yachting, Amels 60, Entourage, Espen Øino International, Burdifilek, Diego Burdi, Arie Midavaine

The Amels 60 has been developed to carry the spirit and philosophy of the Amels Limited Editions forward to a new generation.

Designed with the environment in mind, Entourage features IMO Tier III compliant hybrid power and propulsion technology, cutting-edge equipment and technology, superior seakeeping abilities and a transatlantic range of 4,500nm.

Gulf Craft has collaborated with University of Sharjah’s College of Fine Arts and Design by introducing the Sustainable Luxury in Yacht Interior Design project as part of a course on Design for Special Interiors.

The bespoke project was held during the spring semester for a studio class of 18 students in their third year. It concluded with student presentations, where students discussed their learnings and showcased their work through 2D and 3D design simulations.

Presentations were made in front of a jury panel including Hussein Alshaali, Gulf Craft’s Concept Design Department Head, Dr Wael Aly Rashdan and Dr Abdul Samad Al Khalidi, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor respectively at University of Sharjah.

The University of Sharjah is the UAE’s largest university, with three campuses, 14 academic colleges, 123 accredited degrees, 175 teaching and research laboratories, over 18,500 students, and almost 40,000 alumni.

Hussein Alshaali, son of company co-founder and Chairman Mohammed Alshaali, said: “We are passionate about engaging youth in the marine industry, enabling them to build rewarding careers. For this reason, we’ve collaborated with the University of Sharjah to share its values and visions along with exchanging knowledge and expertise with up-and-coming design talent.

“The future of our planet is the responsibility of everyone. We’re committed to promoting sustainability through smart product design, emissions-reducing technologies and path-breaking environmental initiatives.”

Reflecting the builder’s ongoing commitment to making the UAE a yachting centre of excellence, the University of Sharjah collaboration is also in line with Gulf Craft’s ‘Path to Sustainability’ and ‘Next Generation’ pillars announced at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show. Last year, Gulf Craft began a collaboration with Dubai Institute of Design & Innovation (click for article).

Founded in 1982, Gulf Craft is a fully integrated shipyard with in-house R&D, design and production, and has built over 10,000 boats in its production facilities in the UAE and Maldives. Its yacht brands comprise Majesty, Nomad, Oryx and Silvercraft, which includes the new SilverCat series of power catamarans. Its flagship Majesty 175 is the world’s largest composite production superyacht.

The Polish builder of luxury catamarans has launched an 80 Sunreef Power Eco for a family set to cruise in the US and Caribbean.

Sunreef Yachts has launched an 80 Power Eco, which it has described as the “world’s most advanced electric motor yacht”.

The Eco version of the popular 80 Sunreef Power – whose owners include Rafa Nadal – entered the water at Sunreef’s second, larger production facility in Gdansk on Poland’s north coast.

The catamaran was commissioned by an experienced family of US-based boat owners “deeply engaged in sustainability and looking for the perfect eco-responsible motor yacht”, according to Sunreef.

The powercat features Sunreef’s revolutionary solar-power system, with panels fully integrated into the hull sides and superstructure, and has two 360kW engines and a set of 990kWh batteries.

The yacht also features an energy-saving air conditioning system and smart energy management, while the custom-tailored layout and décor includes four cabins to accommodate eight guests.

The owners have a long history in yachting, as they explained to Sunreef in an interview. Spending time on the water since childhood, they’ve raced sailboats and cruised extensively in New England, Florida and the Bahamas with family boats, also chartering in the British Virgin Islands.

“Our three generations of close-knit families have enjoyed countless joyful experiences on board our family yachts, but the climate impact of large power yachts is significant,” the owners said.

“We’ve taken extensive steps to impact the climate crises, so we could only consider a motor yacht if it incorporated technologies that are rapidly scaling in other sectors such as solar energy and electric vehicles. Given our focus on sustainability broadly, only an electric ‘Eco’ boat aligned with our values.”

Having researched the market with The Catamaran Company and visited overseas shipyards “to determine who was genuinely and successfully advancing state-of-the-art with electric and sustainable yachting”, the owners decided to build with Sunreef Yachts.

“The result of our discovery process was clear,” the owners said. “Sunreef leads the industry with research and development, high-quality production, highly evaluated sourcing, and compelling on-water performance.”

The couple, their captain, designer and broker all worked directly with Sunreef throughout the project, interfacing remotely with the shipyard’s client-facing team, sometimes on a weekly basis.

“Sunreef allowed for significant input and choice on our part. While we’ve never designed and built a yacht, we’ve brought our style and ideas from our home and hospitality projects, and enjoyed learning and shaping our future marine home,” the owners said.

“On-site visits were extremely efficient in terms of making early design decisions about layout, material, colours and furnishings. Sunreef is a family-run, private company with a history of high achievement, and that culture is evident throughout the organisation.”

The owners plan to spend summers on the yacht in the Northeast of the US, and winters in the Bahamas and the Caribbean when the boat is not being chartered. “The Caribbean is mostly a frontier for us and will offer a wonderful escape from the cold northern winters!”

Gulf Craft Chairman Mohammed Alshaali was among keynote speakers at the ASMEX (Australian Superyacht Marine Export) Conference, which was held ahead of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Alshaali, who co-founded Gulf Craft in 1982, discussed the development and global expansion of the UAE builder, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. Over the past four decades, it has grown from a modest producer of small fishing boats to an integrated builder of award-winning luxury superyachts, including the world’s largest composite-built production superyacht, the Majesty 175.

The Chairman also shared his own personal career journey from international diplomat to a leader in the global yachting industry. Looking ahead, he detailed Gulf Craft’s new Legacy in Motion vision for the future, which was announced at the Dubai International Boat Show in March and is focused on four themes: Technology & Innovation, Path to Sustainability, Global Expansion and Next Generation.

Alshaali also talked about Gulf Craft in Australia, where 100ft-plus Majesty Yachts models have been popular due in part to their chartering capabilities. All Majesty superyachts are built specifically to meet the stringent Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) survey class for commercial charters, from corporate events to weddings and birthdays, and private holidays.

“We’ve been selling our boats and yachts in Australia for over a decade now and have seen significant year-on-year growth, quickly making Australia one of our most important markets,” Alshaali said.

“I’m delighted to be back in Australia as a keynote speaker alongside some of the industry’s thought leaders from across the globe. I enjoyed sharing Gulf Craft’s special 40-year story, our vision for the future and our ongoing commitment to the Australian market as part of our global expansion, as well as my own personal experiences with delegates at the event.”

Australian Superyachts, a Gulf Craft dealer, is attending the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (May 25-28), showing a new Majesty 72 and an Oryx 379.

Fraser Market Intelligence: Early year demand drops

Superyacht sales in the first quarter of 2023 returned to pre-Covid levels, but were up on the average for the last 14 years while charter demand remained strong.

Mark Duncan, Director of Business Development & Marketing, Fraser

Mark Duncan, Fraser’s Director of Business Development & Marketing, says the demand for superyachts has finally slowed down after a bumper period during the Covid era.

“It happened later than expected, but worldwide data now confirms yacht purchases in the 24m-plus sector are returning to pre-Covid levels,” Duncan wrote in a Column for YACHT STYLE Issue 71 (click to read) featuring data supplied by Fraser, which is represented in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand by Asiamarine.

Fraser, superyacht, market, intelligence, Yacht Style, charter, sales, Mark Duncan

Sales from January to March were down 46 per cent on the same period in the boom year of 2022, although still outperformed the first-quarter average for the last 14 years by 13 per cent.

The 24-40m (79-131ft) sector continues to account for over 75 per cent of the market in terms of volume, although demand for yachts above 50m (164ft) is holding strong, even before accounting for

some sales yet to be officially announced.

Fraser, superyacht, market, intelligence, Yacht Style, charter, sales, Mark Duncan

However, Duncan said charter demand continues to reflect an all-time high, with enquiries at Fraser more than double the usual for the opening quarter of the year and bookings increasing in duration to an average of nine days.

“With some months still to go before the summer season, we look forward to seeing how late demand affects these trends,” Duncan said.

Benetti has launched Alunya, the sixth unit of the steel-hulled B.Now 50M Oasis Deck® and the second to feature the Oasis Deck®, following the launch of FB605 in March (click for article). Alunya’s delivery is scheduled for the end of July, with the owners set to immediately embark on their maiden voyage.

The Oasis Deck® option has hydraulic winged terraces port and starboard that extend the width of the deck to offer an impressive 90sqm beach club and outdoor living area. Owners and guests have unobstructed 270-degree views from the stern, and the beach club has a glass-walled infinity pool and multiple conversation areas.

Alunya belongs to an experienced owner, who personalised the superyacht to his taste. Brokerage company TWW Yachts introduced the buyer and acted as owner’s representative throughout the build process, working with Benetti to incorporate all the owner’s requests in the final project.

Sebastiano Fanizza, COO of Benetti, said: “The B.Now 50M is one of the most popular models in our history and the addition of the Oasis Deck® made it possible to offer new options to all owners who enjoy close contact with the sea. This new launch and the close collaboration with TWW confirm the commitment that the shipyard has to its customers and partners.”

Launch of Alunya

British studio RWD is responsible for the concept design and exterior styling of B.Now 50M, while Italian studio PierLuigi Ausonio Naval Architecture handled naval architecture. Benetti’s in-house HUB Design worked with the owners on the design and configuration of the interior of the 499GT superyacht, which has a beam of 8.9m (29ft) and an aluminium alloy superstructure.

B.Now 50M offers accommodation for either 10 or 12 guests, and Alunya’s owners opted for the former with a five-guest stateroom configuration. The owner’s suite is located forward on the main deck and includes a study area, large en-suite bathroom and private terrace. The four guest cabins are on the lower deck. Alunya has a further six cabins for 10 crew, including the captain.

Alunya also features plenty of space for tenders and toys including a tender up to 5.65m and jet-skis, which are cleverly concealed within the bow. The tender is deployed and retrieved through a hydraulically operated hatch starboard.

Equipped with twin 1,400hp MAN V12 engines and two Kohler 118 kW generators, the B.Now 50M has a 4,500nm range at 12 knots and a top speed of 15 knots, while Alunya is also fitted with a pair of electrical stabilisers.

Poland’s Sunreef Yachts is developing a hydrogen version of its 80 Eco sailing catamaran, which will also include solar power, hydrogeneration, lithium batteries and electric motors.

Sunreef Yachts is building the first Sunreef 80 Eco Hydrogen for owners seeking to use it for “long cruises and exploring new cruising grounds”.

The sailing catamaran will combine high-tech hydrogen fuel cell (75kW), a hydrogeneration system, custom battery bank (440kWh), two 120kW electric motors and the builder’s unique solar skin (32kWp), already seen on the first two units of the 80 Eco and first 60 Eco.

“The yacht will be used for private cruises and exploration. She will often sail into less sunny areas of the world, which is why it was important for the owners to rely on hydrogen,” said Nicolas Lapp, Sunreef’s Chief Technical Officer and son of company founder Francis Lapp.

“The owner wanted an autonomous craft that won’t use any fuel. The idea is to be able to go far and rely on clean energy, even when there’s not enough sunlight to generate solar power. Hydrogen yachts are a very exciting and promising sector.”

The Sunreef 80 Eco Hydrogen will have six carbon tanks offering 55kg of compressed hydrogen (350bar), which will also be used to power both the appliances and the catamaran’s engines. Sunreef is developing a system to produce hydrogen from sea water, using solar power and hydro-generation.

The yacht is based on the hull and superstructure of the Sunreef 80, the most popular of the builder’s current range of sailing catamarans, which also include 50, 60 and 70 models. The 78ft 4in yacht has a beam of 37ft 10in, while the rig includes a 200sqm mainsail and 155sqm genoa.

“The Sunreef 80 is one of our bestsellers. One of the reasons for this is the amount of space she provides. Her beam translates into massive relaxation space on the flybridge, main deck and aft cockpit. At the same time, she offers a lot of room and flexibility within the hulls. There will also be one very important factor contributing to comfort – she will cruise in total silence.”

Francis Lapp, founder and CEO of Sunreef, added: “Our philosophy goes far beyond boat building. We craft experiences. Before we design a tangible object, we always take the time to think about the aura we want to create.

“The Sunreef 80 Eco Hydrogen delivers a message of respect and responsibility. She is the synonym of comfort and silence. At the same time, this yacht uses the latest technology, so she appeals to all those who like to look into the future.”

Sunreef’s current builds include the 43M Eco (click for article) and 100 Eco.
