Silent 62 3-Deck to debut at Cannes

An extended, full-flybridge version of the Silent 60, the 62 3-deck will have its official premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 7-12.

Silent-Yachts will debut its 62 3-Deck solar-electric catamaran at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival along with the Front Deck version of the model it’s based on, the Silent 60, first launched in 2021. The 62 3-Deck has a high-performance hull shape featuring a reverse bow and longer waterline, while the long window stripe are among signature exterior details.

The Silent 62 3-Deck is based on the same platform as the 60, but is extended 2ft aft and is the builder’s first model to feature a full flybridge, offering 50sqm on the top deck instead of the 21sqm retractable flybridge on the standard 60. The 62 3-Deck flybridge is available in Open or Closed versions, with the former showing at Cannes and the latter available as a master suite.

Silent-Yachts, Silent 62, 3-deck, Cannes Yachting Festival, Open, Closed, 60, Front Deck

The flybridge includes a helm, bar, galley, dining table and seating for 10-12 people. The main deck includes a 50sqm saloon, while the hulls feature four en-suite guest cabins and a crew cabin. The optional hydraulic stern platform doubles up as a swim platform and can accommodate the electric Silent Tender 400 or another tender up to 4.2m. Additional water toys, kayaks, SUPs and e-bikes can be stowed in the bridge deck.

Offering unlimited range with no noise, fumes or vibrations, the self-sufficient yacht is fitted with 42 solar panels achieving up to 17kWp and features the same powertrain as the 60, including two 340kW e-motors, a 150 kW diesel generator and 286kWh water-cooled lithium battery.

Silent-Yachts, Silent 62, 3-deck, Cannes Yachting Festival, Open, Closed, 60, Front Deck

Powered by the sun, the 62 3-deck can cruise up to about 100 miles per day, while its operational costs are significantly lower compared to conventional motor yachts. All systems can be powered without the generator, which acts as a back-up to recharge batteries if higher speeds are required for prolonged periods or when weather conditions are unfavourable for several days.

High-tech carbon fibre is used to reduce the yacht’s overall weight, while its draft of just slightly above 1m allows it to access shallow bays with ease, making her the ideal for cruising in the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. Azimut’s display at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17) will include the world premiere of the new Magellano 60 and in-water debut of the S7 (click for article) following its unveiling at the Boot Dusseldorf indoor show in January. Sister shipyard Benetti will showcase the Motopanfilo 37M (click for Review) among three superyachts in Vieux Port.

Last month, the first Magellano 60 used HVOlution biofuel (click for article) supplied by Eni Sustainable Mobility as the yacht made its maiden voyage from Savona to Taormina for the Azimut Yachting Gala XII, which attracted 600 owners from around the world. The Magellano 60 is the new entry model for a range that includes the upgraded Magellano 66, Magellano 25M and flagship Magellano 30M, with the new 66 and 30M launched last year.

The Magellano 60 is designed by Ken Freivokh – who worked on earlier Magellano models and the more recent 25M and 30M – and features the aft teak louvres on both sides that have become the series’ signature. Features include an ‘infinity terrace’ in the aft cockpit, an aft galley and a forward saloon area with a starboard dining area with a sea view through the large windows.

Azimut S7

The Magellano 60 is another step along the brand’s sustainability path and features a second-generation dual mode hull. Like the S7, it’s among Azimut’s collection of Low Emission Yachts, which consume 20 per cent less fuel than shaft-line boats of the same weight and size with a traditional hard-chine hull.

A Riva Anniversario in Piazza Affari in Milan

Following a successful IPO (click for article), Ferretti Group has debuted on Euronext Milan, the Milan-based stock exchange operated by Borsa Italiana.

With a portfolio including seven yacht builders, the Italian company marked the occasion by displaying a Riva Anniversario and a photography exhibition celebrating the brand in Piazza Affari, home of the Euronext Milan headquarters.

Based on the hull of the 33ft Aquariva and finished in tribute to the historic Aquarama (1962-96), the limited-edition Anniversario was among new models launched in 2022 to celebrate the 180th anniversary of Riva, one of Ferretti Group’s brands along with Ferretti Yachts, Custom Line, CRN, Pershing, Itama and Wally.

Following its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in March 2022 (click for article), Ferretti Group’s Euronext Milan debut means the yacht builder joins an exclusive club of dual-listed companies and is the first on these two exchanges.

Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group, said: “Today we’re twice as happy. A year ago, we were in Sarnico to celebrate our listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and now we’re at Euronext Milan. We’re the first and only Group in the world – and not just in the luxury yacht industry – to achieve this double listing in Asia and Europe.

“We come to this historic day in our best shape ever, riding the wave of outstanding results we continue to deliver as the market rewards us for making the most beautiful boats in the world. As always, Ferretti Group points the way and broadens the horizon.”

Monaco Yacht Show announces carbon-neutrality plan

SHARE

MYS organisers have shared updates on its Carbon Neutrality Transition Plan, which is focused on “collaborative efforts for a sustainable yachting event”.

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

Monaco Yacht Show organisers recently hosted a webinar exclusively for exhibitors and show suppliers to discuss its Carbon Neutrality Transition Plan. The presentation emphasised the show’s commitment to sustainability and ongoing efforts to minimise its environmental impact.

With the implementation of a comprehensive three-phase transition plan, organisers are dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality, actively involving all exhibitors and suppliers in the process. The presentation was hosted by the Monaco Yacht Show and auditing agency Nadeis, which supports the show in its sustainability initiatives.

Several topics were addressed during the presentation. Introduction to the carbon neutrality transition plan revealed that the Monaco Yacht Show aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 60 per cent by 2025 compared to 2022. This aligns with the Principality of Monaco’s low-carbon trajectory, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

A presentation of Phase One and last year’s results discussed the approach and methodology used to calculate the show’s carbon footprint. Data collection at last year’s edition was conducted from various stakeholders including visitors, exhibitors, service providers and yacht captains, with organisers stressing that “accurate data collection is crucial for improving carbon footprint estimation”.

The outlook for Phase Two and Phase Three revealed the vision for the next stages of the transition plan. The phases are focused on future measures and upcoming initiatives to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability.

Overall, the carbon footprint calculation for the Monaco Yacht Show reveals important data across three areas. Scope One represents direct emissions that the show owns or controls and the largest emission in this scope came from the refrigerants used in air-conditioning machines, amounting to 48.5 tonnes.

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

Scope Two includes indirect emissions from electricity and water consumption, which were relatively low, with usage of water amounting to 0.1 tonnes of emissions and electricity contributing 2.4 tonnes.

Scope Three covers other indirect emissions from activities not owned or controlled by MYS, such as exhibitors, suppliers, waste and transportation. The emissions in this scope were significant, with notable contributions from exhibitors, visitors, waste and service providers.

Employees contributed one tonne, which is equivalent to 190 round trips from Paris to Bordeaux by train. Visitors generated 6,608 tonnes, equivalent to 6,600 round trips from Paris to New York by air (extrapolated data).

Waste amounts to five tonnes, equivalent to 44,000 plastic cups. Service providers contribute 39 tonnes, equivalent to 741 years of power consumption of a TV (extrapolated data). Exhibitors generated 77 tonnes, equivalent to driving 620,000km in a diesel car (extrapolated data).

Monaco Yacht Show, carbon, neutrality, plan, transition, organisers

The results underscored the need for comprehensive efforts to reduce emissions in all scopes, promoting sustainable practices and environmental responsibility throughout the Monaco Yacht Show.

Organisers emphasised the importance of collaboration with partners, suppliers and customers to reduce the show’s carbon footprint and waste. It highlighted the benefits of calculating and managing the carbon footprint of events, such as demonstrating commitment to climate change and accessing new markets.

The show’s commitment to sustainability extends to both the preparation of the event and the four-day show itself. In 2022, the show introduced a Sustainability Hub, with the aim of raising awareness and promoting sustainable practices among exhibitors and visitors.

This year’s Monaco Yacht Show will be held in Port Hercule from September 27-30 and is again expected to host about 120 superyachts – including about 40 world premieres – and around 50 luxury tenders. The superyacht fleet boasts an average length of 50 metres and includes megayachts exceeding 100m. www.monacoyachtshow.com

The Polish luxury catamaran builder has added the Sunreef 88 Ultima to its new range of dynamic hybrid powercats.

After releasing designs for its 55 and 44 Ultima hybrid power catamarans, which it plans to build in its upcoming UAE production facility, Sunreef Yachts has released designs and details of its 88 Ultima, which offers almost 4,200sqft of living space and is the first model in the range to feature a flybridge.

The 88 Ultima’s hybrid propulsion system includes Sunreef’s own solar-power system and custom-engineered battery banks, while the slim 88-footer has a beam of just 30ft, compared to the 39ft-plus beam of the much shorter 80 Sunreef Power.

“Combining the best of monohull dynamics with multihull living space and shallow draft, the Sunreef 88 Ultima creates a new type of marine architecture,” Sunreef stated.

“With a sleek and sporty hull, she guarantees easy access to any marina, while her advanced design reduces drag for enhanced performance and energy efficiency. Sunreef 88 Ultima is a sleek supercat engineered to deliver the ultimate blend of speed, sustainability and comfort.”

The all-new naval architecture has enabled Sunreef to develop full-beam living spaces on the lower deck, which includes a full-beam master suite forward with the option of a private sauna, up to four more guest cabins, three aft cabins for five crew, and a large galley to port.

The stern starts with a huge platform that includes a curved, high-low aft section that can carry a tender, plus two fold-down double sunbeds either side of a garage that can fit a jet-ski and more toys. Long drop-down bulwarks can be deployed to create a three-sided Ocean Lounge by the water.

Two stairways either side of the garage lead up to an extra-long cockpit that begins with a central island sunpad, features an L-shaped sofa and a dining table to port, while to starboard is a large sunpad, wet bar, day head and flybridge stairs.

The interior starts with formal dining to port and a small lounge to starboard, while beyond the lower-deck stairways are a saloon with pop-up TV to starboard, opposite an open galley to port. The saloon area is designed to reduce artificial lighting and air conditioning, while the interiors use sustainable woods, recycled plastics and reclaimed fabrics.

The 88 is the first Ultima with a flybridge, which features a helm station and a wet bar to starboard, while to port is a lounge forward of an athwartships dining table, all covered by a hard top. Options for the uncovered area aft can feature a full-width sunbathing area or a half-width version and space for gym equipment.

Sunreef’s dealers in Asia include Hong Seh Marine in Singapore and Lee Marine in Thailand.

Lagoon Escapade Thailand in October 2022

It’s an exciting time in Asia for sailing catamarans, with the Singapore Yachting Festival in late April hosting the Southeast Asia debut of the Lagoon 55 (click for Review), while dealers Simpson Marine and Europa Yachts are organising Lagoon Escapades in Thailand and the Philippines respectively towards the end of the year.

The events are the latest in a recent series of activations by the world’s leading pleasure catamaran builder in the region, which is overseen – along with young sister brand Excess – by the Groupe Beneteau Asia-Pacific office in Hong Kong.

Lagoon Escapade Thailand in October 2022

Last year, a Lagoon Seventy 7 was delivered to Japan, where it became the country’s biggest sailing catamaran, while a Lagoon 42 was displayed at the 27th Yokohama Floating Yacht Show (September 30-October 2).

In October, Simpson Marine hosted the latest Lagoon Escapade Thailand, three years since its previous edition. In Hong Kong later that month, the region’s biggest yacht dealer staged the Asia premiere of the Lagoon 55, a model that debuted in Europe in 2021 and introduced the brand’s ‘aft terrace on the sea’.

Lagoon 55 Asia debut in Hong Kong

In March this year, a Lagoon 42 displayed at the Japan International Boat Show in Yokohama, while in April a Lagoon 46 showed at the Sanya International Boat Show in China before a Lagoon 40 exhibited at the Busan International Boat Show in Korea.

Meanwhile, the Lagoon 55 used for the regional debut in Hong Kong was delivered to its owner in mainland China, while further units of the Lagoon 55 arrived in the Singapore and Philippines, where another is set to arrive this year, with Japan also set to welcome the model.

Lagoon 51

Hong Kong and the Philippines are the first markets to welcome the Lagoon 51 that debuted last year and only made its US debut at the Miami International Boat Show in February. More units of the brand’s most eco-friendly model are scheduled for delivery to China, Thailand and the Philippines this year.

Lagoon is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2024 with the launch of multiple new models, while new innovations – that can be retro-fitted – include a new solution to treat and purify water on board for drinking.

Meanwhile, at the Cannes Yachting Festival last September, sister brand Excess staged the world premiere of its all-new Excess 14 (click for Review), which has proved a big success, with production sold out through 2024.

Excess 11 in Hainan

It was a strong follow-up to the popular entry-level Excess 11, which has sold over 250 units around the world since it debuted in 2020, the year after the brand launched with the 12 and 15 models. Designed to offer similar sailing sensations to monohulls, the brand’s twin-helm design offers a lively experience for skippers, while all models feature naval architecture by French studio VPLP.

The first Excess 11 was recently delivered to Hainan, while across Asia-Pacific, the brand’s sales are led by the charter and cruising paradise of Tahiti in French Polynesia, followed by the likes of Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

NEW TECH, NEW 80

Fountaine Pajot, the world’s second-biggest leisure cat builder, has also been active in Asia, with a Tanna 47 and Alegria 67 set this year for Hong Kong, where Asia Yachting now represents the brand’s sailing catamarans as well as its motor yachts, and has already delivered an Isla 40.

Fountaine Pajot Aura 51 Smart Electric

An Astrea 42 is set to arrive in Bali in June through Yacht Sourcing, while an Aura 51 arrived in Korea earlier this year. Launched last year, the Aura 51 is notable for the option of integrated solar panels offering up to 2,000W (2kW) and marks the start of a new sustainability-focused new era for the builder.

The model followed Fountaine Pajot’s announcement to create low-carbon and ideally net carbon-neutral cruising boats by 2030, with the builder forming the in-house ODSea (Observe, Design & Save) Lab to develop eco-friendly technologies.

Soon after the launch of the Aura 51, Fountaine Pajot released the model’s Smart Electric version, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival last September. It was the brand’s first model to feature electric motors and an intelligent on-board management system, along with lithium batteries and a hydrogeneration system.

This year, Fountaine Pajot launched its first hydrogen-powered cruising cat, the Samana 59 Smart Electric x REXH2. A collaboration with EODev, a hydrogen solutions specialist, the prototype uses technologies from the 100ft Energy Observer catamaran, which is covered in solar panels, has two wing sails and an electrolyser that allows it to produce its own hydrogen.

Fountaine Pajot New 80

Fountaine Pajot is also preparing to make a splash at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 12-17) when it stages the world premiere of its ‘New 80’ flagship, another collaboration with the Berret Racoupeau studio headed by Olivier Racoupeau, which has designed for Fountaine Pajot for over a decade.

Before that, in late June, the La Rochelle builder is hosting sea trials for all seven of its current sailing cats – Isla 40, Astrea 42, Elba 45, Tanna 47, Aura 51, Samana 59 and Alegria 67.

STRONG IN ASIA

Along with Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot, Leopard is one of the three giants of production pleasure cats and recently showcased its entire range of both sailing and power cats at the International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte in the south of France.

Leopard 42

Built by Robertson & Caine in South Africa, Leopard models are also used under different names by sister charter companies The Moorings and Sunsail. Its current three-model sailing range was completed with the Lagoon 42 in 2021, with the small sister joining the 45 and the flagship 50 in a series that shares common features including a forward saloon door to the foredeck cockpit.

Other signature features include the semi-raised helm to starboard, where the skipper has a flybridge view but can also communicate with those in the cockpit. Solar panels and lithium batteries are an option, while all new Leopards now feature water purification technology that allows owners and guests to enjoy drinking water directly from the tap.

Leopard 42

Of over a dozen Leopard powercats and sailing catamarans arriving in Asia since last year, there have been three deliveries of the Leopard 50 to China and one to Japan, as well as two units of the Leopard 45 to Korea.

Meanwhile, Bali continues to steadily increase its presence in Asia, primarily through Asiamarine, which recently hosted the Bali 4.2 Open Day in Hong Kong (see EVENTS) before displaying the Catspace at the Singapore Yachting Festival at the end of April. Asiamarine has represented Bali since 2020, selling over a dozen units, mostly to Hong Kong but also to Singapore and Thailand.

The French builder’s sailing cat range is still headed by the flagship 5.4 that debuted in 2018, but its six other models – including the Catspace (40ft), 4.2, 4.4, 4.6 and 4.8 – have all been released from 2020 onwards, with the 4.4 having its world premiere at last year’s International Multihull Show.

Bali Catsmart

Bali’s newest model is the entry-level Catsmart, which premiered at La Grande Motte this April. The 38-footer has a 21ft-plus beam and is the brand’s first model without a flybridge, but new features include two helm stations aft and the option of two, three or four cabins.

“With the Catsmart, Bali is entering the popular 38ft segment and is reinforcing its portfolio, with seven models from 38-54ft,” says Eric Noyel, founder and CEO of Asiamarine, who hopes the first Catsmart in Asia will arrive in the summer of 2024.

“The Catsmart boasts the brand’s well-known innovations but differs with the absence of a flybridge and the inclusion of two steering wheels at the back of the hulls for enhanced pleasure at the helm. Also, the two-suite layout is unique on the market. She’s a small, compact multihull that will attract sailing enthusiasts with a tighter budget.”

Bali Catsmart

Since emerging as an offshoot of Catana Group in 2014, Bali has grown rapidly and joined the world’s most popular sailing cat brands due to pioneering features like the signature ‘Bali door’, a full flybridge (on all but its smallest model), sliding saloon windows, forward saloon door and solid foredeck.

“When our clients or prospects go onboard a Bali for the first time, we often hear, ‘wow, there’s so much space’, which is the best comment we can receive,” Noyel says. “Also, the Asia market is particularly eager for innovation and new experiences, which makes Bali catamarans particularly attractive.”

ECO FIRST

Sunreef continues to make headway into Asia, with last year’s appointment of Hong Seh Marine as its dealer in Singapore and this year’s announcement of Lee Marine as its representative in Thailand. The Polish shipyard is also expanding its presence in the UAE where it has opened an office in Dubai and is developing a production facility in Ras Al Khaimah.

Sunreef 80 Eco, Marie-Joseph

Sunreef continues to grow its Eco range of sailing catamarans, which began last year with the launch of the first 80 Eco, Marie- Joseph. The model had its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival last September before appearing at the Monaco Yacht Show later that month and this year’s Dubai International Boat Show in March. The first Sunreef 60 Eco, Surreal, also launched last year.

Recently, Sunreef revealed its second all-electric 80 Eco sailing catamaran. In contrast to Marie Joseph’s dark-blue hull, the second 80 Eco has a light-green hull dominated by Sunreef’s dark ‘solar skin’ and hull windows, while its white superstructure features the ultralight compositeintegrated solar panels on the sides and flybridge hard top. Unlike Marie-Joseph, the new model doesn’t have solar panels around the mast.

In addition to the solar-power system, Sunreef’s Eco models are also able to generate energy from the passive motion of the two propellers through an advanced hydrogeneration system. All energy obtained is used to power both the hotel appliances and electric propulsion for silent, emission-free cruising.

The shipyard offers Eco versions of the company’s current range of sailing models, first seen in 2018 with the Sunreef 60 and Sunreef 80 before the first units of the 50 and 70 followed in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Sunreef 60 Eco, Surreal

The Sunreef 80 has been the most popular of the four models, underlining the builder’s focus on large catamarans, although the shipyard stated that sales during last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival

included two Sunreef 60 Eco and three Sunreef 60 sail catamarans.

Sunreef is also developing the 80 Eco Hydrogen for an owner who wants to “go far and rely on clean energy, even when there’s not enough sunlight to generate solar power”. The shipyard is working on a system that will enable hydrogen to be produced from sea water, using solar power and hydro generation. The yacht will also include Sunreef’s solar-power system, which will assist with powering all onboard operations and the electric propulsion system.
