A World Sailing-appointed International Race Officer, Rollin was a lynchpin of the Philippine yacht racing scene for decades.

It is with great sorrow that we learned of the passing of Michael Jeremy ‘Jerry’ Rollin in Manila on September 21, 2026. He was 77.

Beloved within the sailing community in the Philippines, his adopted home, and in the regional Asian circuit and beyond, Jerry was a staunch supporter of yacht racing, a visionary and an indefatigable leader of the sport. From local grassroots level to Philippine Hobie Challenges, to grand prix yacht racing, he generously lent himself.

A consistent eminent honouree of Yacht Style’s annual list of ‘Asia’s Yachting Leaders’, he might as well be a ‘Hall of Fame’ lister, yet Jerry always remained humble and a decent gentleman.

Having retired from the position of World Sailing Race Officer in 2024, Jerry concentrated on assisting local organisations to raise their standards in race management and technical skills, event logistics and management, handicap systems and safety services.

His roles included Technical Director and Trustee of the Philippine Sailing Association, President of Philippine Inter-Island Sailing Federation and Offshore Racing Club of the Philippines, and Director of the Philippine Sailing Association. Jerry also provided consultancy services to resorts and marinas.

Formerly in the British Army and resident in the Philippines since 1987, Jerry officiated at dozens of different regattas across Asia including the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta in Thailand and Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta in Malaysia. He was the Competition Manager for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games sailing competition at Subic Bay.

There has been an outpouring of messages and touching tributes for Jerry, including Club Punta Fuego setting the Philippine Flag at half-mast this week. A true loss to all of us.
