Fairline Targa 40 at Boot Dusseldorf 2024

Fairline staged the world premiere of its all-new Targa 40 at Boot Dusseldorf. Featuring a drop-down bulwark on the starboard side, the Targa 40 is the new entry model for the British builder’s line of cruisers, which also includes the 45 Open, 45 GT, 50 Open, 50 GT and 65 GT.

The Targa 40 was on display in Dusseldorf with the Targa 45 Open, Targa 45 GT, Phantom 65 sportbridge and Squadron 58 flybridge, which debuted at the Southampton International Boat Show last September and features drop-down bulwarks on either side of the aft cockpit.

The Oundle builder hopes the new 39-footer will follow the success of the Targa 38, one of the brand’s most popular models following its launch in 2006, with more than 300 built over the following decade.

The Targa 40 can fit twin Volvo Penta D6-340s or D6-380s, which Fairline expects to deliver top end speeds of 32 knots and 36 knots respectively. The exterior includes a modern bluff-bow hull and an open cockpit with a hardtop and electric canvas sunroof that can retract to fully expose the main deck to the elements.

Aft, the integrated garage has room for a 2.7m tender with electric outboard. The two aft-facing double sunbeds with floating backrests can convert into sofas, while the eye-catching new feature is a power-down beach club balcony to starboard. The port sunbed is part of a C-shaped seating and dining area opposite a wet bar.

The forward area benefits from extensive glazing, which provides natural light and expansive views. To port is companion seating that can double as a daybed, while to starboard are twin helm seats. The foredeck is accessed by two side decks and is dominated by expansive sunbeds, while the addition of a forward-facing sofa at the bow enables guests to enjoy the views while cruising.

Below deck includes an impressive C-shaped lounge sofa opposite a galley, TV and the shared bathroom, which also has direct access from the owner’s suite in the bow and features 6ft 6in of headroom. The midships guest cabin has twin beds that slide together to form a double.

The French shipyard kicked off the year with the world premiere of the Dufour 44, which features a hexagonal dining table in the saloon.

The wide-beam Dufour 44 debuted at Boot Dusseldorf, as the French builder continues to revamp its series of sailboat models ranging from the Dufour 37 to flagship Dufour 61. The shipyard debuted the Dufour 41 at last September’s Cannes Yachting Festival and followed up with the Dufour 44, which is available in an electric version (as are the Dufour 470 and Dufour 530).

Like the Dufour 41, the Dufour 44 features an exterior by Umberto Felci of Felci Yacht Design and an interior by Luca Ardizio of Ardizio Design, with an extra emphasis on beam and interior volume. The yacht has an overall length of 45ft based on a 43ft-long hull with a beam of over 14ft 7in.

Umberto Felci said: The objective was to create a spacious outdoor living area, resulting in a proportionally larger cockpit compared to her predecessor of the same size. Our focus was on integrating elements from the Dufour 470 and Dufour 530, emphasising fluid communication in the cockpit, facilitating easy passage to the deck and optimising the overall length of the boat. We’ve also taken successful elements from the Dufour 41 while introducing new features.”

On deck, the area between the helm stations and the two winches has been enlarged to make sail manoeuvring easier. At anchor, guests can enjoy bench sofas either side of the central folding table and can move around freely around the plancha grill aft due to the new double access to the fold-down swim platform, which has also been expanded.

Down below, the saloon features a new hexagonal table that can seat up to 10 guests with the use of movable stools, while the galley can either occupy the starboard side or be set up forward, allowing for the addition of a starboard sofa.

The yacht has two double cabins aft, with the day head starboard of the stairs and the shower room to port. Forward is the option of either two en-suite cabins or an owner’s suite, which has an island bed, en-suite bathroom, separate shower room, hanging and overhead lockers, skylights and hull windows.

Romain Lucat, Director of the Dufour design office, said: “The Dufour 44 represents an exciting challenge where the search for volume and cohesion in the range combines with the innovative integration of solar panels, highlighting our commitment to sustainability. Our collaboration with architect Umberto Felci and interior designer Luca Ardizio ensures a balance between functionality, aesthetics and performance.

“Optimising the interior space, taking into account new technologies and customising with four distinct versions make the Dufour 44 an exceptional creation, offering optimal outdoor living and remarkable sailing performance.”

Dufour’s dealers in Asia include VP Yachts (Hong Kong), Yacht Sourcing (Indonesia), Omnia Marine (China), Taiwan Service Company (Taiwan), Active Marine (Japan) and Ige Yachts (Korea).

Ferretti Group staged the world premiere of the Riva El-Iseo at Boot Dusseldorf, where the Italian boat-building giant also debuted Wally’s new wallypower50 and announced other upcoming models.

Riva displayed a prototype of the of the El-Iseo at previous boat shows including the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, but the stunning blue version on show at Messe Dusseldorf was an example of the official, production version of the first full-electric model in Ferretti Group’s new E-Luxury segment.

Based on the design of the Iseo, Riva’s smallest model, the 27ft El-Iseo has a full-electric Parker GVM310 motor from Parker Hannifin, “offering unprecedented performance in terms of speed and acceleration”, according to the Group.

Certified by RINA, the El-Iseo also contains a high-energy-density lithium battery pack by Podium Advanced Technologies, which offers an efficient, lightweight solution with a capacity of 150 kWh and a voltage of 800V. Otherwise, the yacht retains Riva’s classic use of polished mahogany and stainless-steel detailing as seen on the Iseo.

Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group’s CEO, said: “Ferretti Group’s 2024 kicks off under the banner of innovation and sustainability, the two main coordinates for the future of yachting. El-Iseo, Riva’s first full-electric powerboat, is proof that the world’s most highly renowned shipyard is also the one that rises to and wins the challenges of today.”

The Group’s upcoming models include two Wally sailing yachts, the wallywind110 cruiser-racer and the wallyrocket51, while the wallywhy100 presented at a private preview in Venice last December will be presented at boat shows later this year. The Ferretti Yachts Infynito 80 and Pershing GTX80 are both expected to premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 10-15).

Ferretti Group also revealed financial figures including revenues of €856.4 million and adjusted EBITDA of €124.8 million for the first nine months of last year, up 9.8 per cent and 17.7 per cent respectively on the corresponding period in 2022.

The company launched new offices at its Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona in December and continues to develop its new 70,000sqm production hub in Ravenna. Ferretti Group is a public company, with over 50 per cent of its share capital traded on the market, having listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2022 and Euronext Milan in 2023.

Damen Yachting has delivered the 197ft Satemi, the fourth hull in the Amels 60 series. The 60m, 830GT yacht will remain quayside at the Damen Yachting shipyard in the Netherlands for a few weeks before departing on her maiden voyage to the Caribbean.

“It has been great to see how all parties involved have pulled together and have put in so much effort during this busy project,” said Danker Rijk, Damen Yachting’s Project Manager, who has managed Satemi throughout her build. “The result of their work speaks for itself; the yacht looks stunning. We hope that the owners will enjoy stepping on board for the first time this year.”

The Amels 60 has an exterior design by Espen Øino, but inspired by the customisations made to the second hull, Satemi features elongated window styling. Features include a sun deck, large swim platform and a foredeck with space for a 9m tender.

The custom interiors have been created by Studio Indigo, which was responsible for the original Amels 60 concept interior design. As well as 13 crew, the yacht can accommodate 12 guests in six cabins including an owner’s suite with folding balcony, his and her bathrooms, plus a dressing room.

Tassos Papantoniou of Torrance Yachts, which represents the owners, said: “The owners have been involved with the build for the past 24 months and have been able to set the interior exactly as they want it. They’ve spared no expense ensuring that their yacht is specified to the very highest standards – everything from the tenders to the dinnerware, it all results in a spectacular outcome.”

Satemi’s advanced equipment and technology includes an IMO Tier III-compliant hybrid power and propulsion system. Captain Mattia Dzaja said: “I’ve reviewed the system specification, and I am impressed. The benefits of this system and the reduced environmental impact are obvious, but what I love most is the additional safety it will provide us when we’re cruising.

“Everyone that is part of the Amels ‘family’ is super passionate. They believe in what they’re doing and are led by Rose Damen, whose enthusiasm for the brand is evident and is an inspiration to the entire industry.”

Esteban Ocon, a Meros Yachtsharing member and brand ambassador, will join the presentation of the third superyacht in the exclusive co-ownership programme.

Founded by a German entrepreneur, featuring British yachts and fronted by a French brand ambassador, Meros Yachtsharing is staging the premiere of its new Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 superyacht at the 55th edition of Boot Dusseldorf.

Alpine driver Esteban Ocon – a Meros member and brand ambassador – will present the latest addition to the company’s co-ownership programme, with the new yacht’s official debut held on the second day of the world’s biggest indoor boat show.

The highly customised 28m yacht is the third member of the Meros fleet, along with another Sunseeker 95 Yacht presented in Boot last year and a Sunseeker 86 Yacht. All are managed by seasoned crews that include a captain, deckhand, stewardess and a personal chef, each crew.

Founded in 2019 by an experienced yacht owner inspired by the growth of the sharing economy, Meros Yachtsharing is the exclusive contractual partner and sole provider of a co-ownership model for Sunseeker superyachts in Europe.

The company’s aim is to offer the market an alternative to sole yacht ownership by providing financially attractive terms and guaranteeing a premium experience. Operated from branches in Germany, Spain, Malta and soon the UK, the co-owner programme provides access to the Meros fleet with access to over 10 yachting hotspots in Europe.

Georg Oehme, Managing Director of Meros Yachtsharing, said: “Our sustainable co-ownership model presents a unique opportunity to enter a growing market. In our yacht-sharing models, the costs are shared in parallel to your usage. It’s a modern, sustainable approach for the sector where we focus on the client’s entire experience.”

Meros is collaborating with Sunseeker London Group, the British builder’s European sales organisation, and industry experts to take care of yacht and crew operations, route planning and administration, so offering far more than asset management.

Meros offers both Flexshare and Quarter co-ownership models. Flexshare involves use of any of the Flexshare fleet by several co-owners and is the home of the Meros concierge, which offers members and co-owners exclusive invites and access to some of the world’s most desirable events such as the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

As shown in 2023, one of Meros’ yachts is berthed trackside in Monaco and all owners are invited to enjoy a weekend hosted by the platform. In addition to this, Meros members and co-owners receive exclusive benefits from like-minded partners including NetJets and Thirdhome.

Meros also offers a classic co-ownership structure through the Quarter share model, with a 25 per cent stake of one boat, currently available only on the Sunseeker 86 Yacht. In this ownership, co-owners have direct ownership of a privately registered vessel, with Meros supporting and managing the vessel, all communication and crew.

After the success of Meros Flexshare in the Western Mediterranean last year, the programme is expanding into the Eastern Mediterranean and the UAE, allowing clients the opportunity to enjoy yachts in diverse regions and expanding their cruising season. Benefits of the arrangement include eliminating transfer costs and a quicker, easier way of exploring a variety of countries and cultures.

Meros Yachtsharing is also committed to environmental consciousness with an increasing capacity to use HVO-100 fuel across all new yachts. The initiative is supported by Repsol for distribution and MTU (Rolls-Royce) for research and development.

Azimut has launched its Charter Club, the Italian builder’s tailor-made charter service for its recent yachts, with a team dedicated to supporting owners and charter guests.

All charter yachts have been produced within the last five years and belong to Azimut boat owners, with the selection ranging up to 24m waterline length. Yachts in Mediterranean destinations are already available on the portal, with more models and destinations to be added.

The Azimut Charter Club is part of the development strategy for Azimut’s service hub, which welcomes enthusiasts and newcomers to enjoy “experiences in Azimut style, in close contact with the sea and on models which redefined and elevated the concept of onboard lifestyle”.

Azimut says the Charter Club’s philosophy is to offer a personalised service with attention to the smallest details, backed by the brand’s expertise and territorial coverage ensured by its extensive network of dealers and partners. “The service represents a new standard in the chartering sector and stands out for the selected fleet and the assistance offered to the customer,” the company stated.

Through a dedicated portal, users can book stays independently or take advantage of the Azimut concierge, a complementary service that can guide a user from the reservation to the legal and administrative aspects. Once details are decided, the selected Azimut dealer will take care of check-in and check-out activities, attending to all requests at sea and at anchor.

Azimut’s dealers in Asia include Marine Italia, which represents the shipyard in Hong Kong, Macau, China’s southerly Guangdong province, Taiwan and Singapore.

Mariasole Bianco hosted The Honours 2023

The Honours 2024 has officially opened for nominations, which can be made on the Nominations page at www.thehonours.org. The event was held for the first time in 2023, with yacht owner and philanthropist Wendy Schmidt, YachtAid Global Director Zoran Selakovic, and superyacht First Officer and DEI proponent Jenny Matthews each honoured with a Bowsprit award.

Organised by The Superyacht Life Foundation and the Monaco Yacht Show, The Honours seeks to celebrate people inspiring change both within and through superyachting and the superyacht industry. Members of the public can submit their nominations for potential 2024 honourees, highlighting people they feel deserve recognition for the work they’ve done or the change they’ve instigated.

Dilan Sarac, Executive Director of The Superyacht Life Foundation, said: “The inspiring stories of our 2023 laureates and the extraordinary impacts they’ve had through their work and their initiatives are a perfect reflection of what this industry is capable of and the heart that beats within it.

The Honours, Wendy Schmidt, YachtAid Global, Zoran Selakovic, Jenny Matthews, Bowsprit, The Superyacht Life Foundation, Monaco Yacht Show, Dilan Sarac, Gaëlle Tallarida

“Now we call on the whole industry – and anyone beyond it – to nominate people they feel deserve recognition for what they’re doing and the impact they’ve had. Anyone can be nominated, if what they’ve done demonstrates the capacity for the superyacht industry to do good or to instigate change.”

Nominees should be involved with superyachts or the superyacht industry and show a project, work or personal endeavour that demonstrates altruistic or progressive behaviour beyond personal gain or career development. Positive attributes include a focus on advancing diversity and inclusion, sustainability and innovation, science and exploration, conservation, and philanthropy and support for local communities.

The complete list of nominees will be considered by an expert panel who will reduce the longlist to a shortlist, from which the final three laureates will be selected after a day of judging by a panel of industry professionals.

The panel will consider aspects such as nominees’ impact and achievements, their leadership and influence, their service and commitment, the innovation and creativity of their endeavours, and their integrity and character.

Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show, said: “The Honours announced itself with a bang on the eve of the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show, and the awards have quickly found their place within the industry by celebrating the people at its heart.

“Moreover, The Honours reflect the efforts of our industry to the rest of the world, showing both how progressive our industry can be and how much desire to do good there is in the superyachting good life. We look forward to seeing another deep and diverse list of nominations, and can’t wait to host the 2024 laureates at the exclusive gala celebration on the eve of the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show.”

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Dufour is kicking off the year with the world premiere of the Dufour 44 designed by Felci and Ardizio.

The wide-beam Dufour 44 is among the world premieres at Boot Dusseldorf (January 20-28) as the French builder continues to modernise its sailboat models ranging from the Dufour 37 (click for Review) to the flagship Dufour 61 (click for Review).

Dufour, now the exclusive supplier of sailing monohulls to sister charter companies Sunsail and The Moorings, debuted the Dufour 41 at last September’s Cannes Yachting Festival and has followed up with the Dufour 44, which is available in an electric version (as are the Dufour 470 and Dufour 530).
